Welcome to Friday's edition of the Morning Show podcast. A daily dose of audio to make your day a little better. Before we fully get into the introduction of today's episode, I do know Carthamory has a big announcement at the end of today's episode. I do. But today is also the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks from Pennsylvania

1:04to DC to of course, the World Trade Center in New York. And as two people who were in school, in schools close enough to see the damage and the smoke from the World Trade Center, it's something that sticks with us and will stick with us for our entire lives. And I know personally I can literally transport to that moment. Yep. And I guess I was in 10th grade. I was in 8th grade, so you were in 11th grade. And yes, because I was in an algebra class, I used to leave my classes all the time to just go like walk around and walk to the bathroom. And I was walking through our second floor library and the librarians had like the roller TV on the news. And I was kind of as I walked by gathering information about a plane hitting a building in New York and it wasn't really connecting yet. And then I left the library and my high school cross country coach and history teacher

2:05was sprinting towards the library, asking if they had the TV on. I said, yeah, they did. There's like some building, I don't know, something's going like I had no idea. By the time I got back into my class, there was an announcement on the school PA saying that there had been an attack. And in my town, I'm sure it was like yours. A lot of people worked in lower Manhattan. And they started calling kids to the office. Most of them were getting really great calls from their parents about, hey, I'm safe. Don't worry. I got in touch with their mom or I got in touch with the dad. Because keep in mind no one had cell phones. No, very few people had cell phones then. But unfortunately there were students who were getting calls saying we have not heard from your parents. And some of them found out later that day or the next day that their parents didn't make it out. So it was a very big thing in my town. I know you could probably. Yeah, my brother, brother and lawn cousin were all in New York City working the day.

3:06Luckily none of them worked at the World Trade Center. So like them just trying to get home was one thing. Someone on my block, my street did die that day. So that was like a big thing. Then the aftermath was a lot of like what we're seeing. Now I mean, it's crazy how like you start seeing the social media posts. Like I'm seeing clips of things that I never saw before about that day. But like honoring the dogs that went into the rubble and found people alive. Like there were like, I think hundreds of dogs that were involved in the rescue efforts of that day. And the rescue efforts went on for a long time. So long. So. And that's just our experience in New Jersey overlooking the city. Obviously, if you're in Washington, DC, there were, there were kids in daycare. We just were getting evacuated out of the Pentagon. There is obviously family members who were affected by the plane that went down in Pennsylvania. So it's everyone's got a different perspective. But to talk about the aftermath, there was a firefighter from my town who helped out

4:11that day and ended up eventually dying because of having respiratory issues. So there's like a park in my town named after him, James O'Drogue. It's just, it's like, it feels like it's never ending because like we're still seeing like they called for John Stewart fighting for these people. Like, even even this week, we're seeing that it was within two, three weeks of the towers going down in Lower Manhattan. They knew there were administrators in the city that knew how poisonous the air in Lower Manhattan was and they chose to hide that information while all of these brave people were going until, like, into the worst scenario you could possibly go into. You're looking for other human beings in rubble. But they hid that information because the American economy would have really suffered if Lower Manhattan was closed down for three or four months. And as we actually learned on the podcast this week that in times like that, you have no constitutional right for your politicians to give you the truth, which is crazy.

5:14It is crazy. But there's, there's a lot of ways you can reflect on what transpired that day and in the day's sense. But I think the biggest message is what you can learn from the people who maybe skipped work that day or like our friend Josh Hadden who we used to work with in New York who just happened to miss a meeting that was supposed to be on the top of the World Trade Center. And that lesson is every single day is valuable. Cherish it. Cherish your people. Tell them you love them and appreciate the moments that we have now because it's crazy when you think of how quickly things can be taken. And that's a really heavy way to start this podcast, which I know is going to be a fun podcast that it is a Friday. But thank you for letting us do that. And welcome to the Morning Show podcast. 6:15So bribery is apparently okay in American. Our president has a new midterm campaign promise. $5,000 will go to every American if Republicans will continue to control the House and Senate. You can't do that. You can't. I also don't think we have enough money to actually do that. Do you know how much money we would need? It's got to be trillions more than a trillion dollars to make that happen. Now Congress would have to approve it. And we're already way in debt. But about an hour after the president said that our vice president said that probably it's not going to happen. Of course, well, we were also supposed to get $2,000 from all of the tariffs already. Correct. It would be a $7,000 total package that he is promising and not delivering on. But what I thought was interesting is how other politicians were reacting to this. So Senator Bernie Moreno, he's a Republican in Ohio. He is fully on board for this. He says he'll prepare legislation to get the Trump dividend pass after the election.

7:19Okay. But then there's a representative Thomas Massey, Republican from Kentucky. He said he was insulted by the idea that his vote could be bought for $5,000. And then there was representative Ted Lu, Democrat from California, who said if Democrats flipped the House and the Senate, everyone will get $10,000, a pony and free ice cream for life. And to piggyback off of what you were just talking about, Carlymory. So where this big rally happened, where Trump promised $5,000 to every adult in America if Republicans win the midterms, that happened at this midterm Republican convention, which is unbelievably rare. So Republicans have actually never done a midterm convention in this country's modern history. Democrats did it back in the 70s. So then I decided, you know what? Instead of worrying about who is actually going to win the midterms or who's going to lose the midterms, I decided to look up what the historical context of the midterms is.

8:21And now I'm not going to go all the way back to like Abraham Lincoln. But in our modern times, like in our lifetime of voting, the best performing president during the midterms is actually George Bush's first term. Okay. In 2002, George Bush bucked the historical trend of losing seats during the midterm for the party that's in the White House. He actually picked up eight seats in the House and two seats in the Senate. So ten seats overall, which was unheard of. And that was back in 2002. He did not do as well in 2006. He lost a total of 36 seats. Then you go into Obama. Obama lost in his first term 71 seats total between the House and the Senate, much better his second term. He only lost 13 in the House, nine in the Senate. Then it brings us to our last two presidents. Donald Trump in 2018. So his first midterm cycle, he lost 40 seats in the House and gained two in the Senate.

9:24So not the worst showing, also not great. And Joe Biden for as much as people talk about how bad his presidency was actually had a top five performance in the midterms all time in American history. He only lost nine seats in the House and actually gained a seat in the Senate. So I bring all of this up to say that normally presidents will lose a handful of seats during the midterms. Historically, that happens almost every time with like three exceptions. So this huge big convention in Texas could actually be a waste because most likely Republicans will be losing seats anyway if history is any indicator. And just to give you a fun fact, I mentioned that George Bush in our lifetime had probably the best showing in midterm history. Actually the second best overall in American history, but the number one spot goes to FDR who also holds the number four spot.

10:24I love giving you the hard hitting news like two new kinds of Girl Scout cookies. Oh, no way. One of them is not for people. It's for dogs. Why can't why do dogs get all this stuff? I'm not cats. I know I am mad about it. Let's talk about these flavors. Girl Scout sparkables. They're oatmeal cookies with chocolate chips and sprinkles. These are the ones for the people. Okay. They are actually made in collaboration with the company partake. You've probably I love their cookies. You've probably seen them at like Whole Foods. They're the allergy friendly cookie company. 11:27close. It's crazy that it's right around the corner. Do you know Carlymory if these are permanent additions or is this a one off type of thing? I'm not sure. Okay. A lot of times they say like say here are flavors and then see how they do. True. Yeah. They'll see how it performs and then decide if it's worth bringing back because of those boxes are selling. They're not getting rid of them. True. If you find yourself talking to someone with an Apple watch, you might want to watch what you say. No pun intended. Did you see the big Apple keynote presentation thing this past week? I actually didn't. So the big thing that got all of the headlines and it's all over my Twitter and Threads feed is the new foldable phone from Apple, which looks very similar to the foldable phone from Samsung. And I'm not going to start telling you which one's better. One's not. They're both probably great. They're all expensive. I have a foldable phone. It's not as useful as I thought it was going to be, but it's still very cool to have. Okay. With that said, one of the things they slipped in there was some of the new tech they are throwing out there.

12:28And the new Apple watch will be able to repeat 15 seconds of any conversation. You were just in like public like IRL or on the phone. IRL. So the example they use in IRL, by the way, is in real life. But the example they used was let's say you are at a restaurant and the waiter comes over, gives you the specials and instead of just asking the waiter to repeat themselves like a normal human. Why is that the example? It was such a stupid example. But instead of asking the waiter like a normal human to repeat themselves because you missed something, you could go to your watch and say, Hey, what did that waiter just say the specials were? Now here's the problem. That means your Apple watch is admitting to always recording you and putting a transcript of those moments on your phone. Now technically Apple says they are not uploading that to the cloud or saving the information anywhere. But it really brings up the problem of privacy in our modern world and a lot of people,

13:32even Apple supporters are very mad about this new update because at some point, I think we're going to have a, I don't know, citizens revolt and grab our privacy back because we almost have none anymore. I just like wonder like who is sitting in the room having these conversations. This is one of the examples I think of having nothing left to innovate that people actually want. And trying to create examples of reasons to add invasive technologies into our lives. I want a camera that doesn't suck because somehow mine on my iPhone 17 does. Oh, you should try Android. I also would like a keyboard that actually types the letters that I'm touching. You should write to the new CEO of Apple. A quick reminder, it's not all doom and gloom. Here's today's hope for humanity. A new apartment building in London has been built with a thousand tons of volcanic stone. And why is that a big deal? Why?

I understand getting a physical music collection. I'm sure there's like some cool things that you can't get anywhere else. No, this is one of those. This could have been an email, ladies. Just scared us. Have they ever gone on tour? The last time they, well, I don't know if it was the last time they performed together, but they did perform together the opening ceremony London Olympics. Oh, that's right. Yes. And that was all of them. Yeah. And Posh has been the problem. But like, I don't know. I think she's getting back into it. Every group has one in ours. It's Carla Marie.

23:53I'd have the day off for me today. Okay. Now that football season is officially underway, right? We had the Wednesday night game. We had the Australia game last night. What does it look like for the weekend? Well, the good news is this weekend, you will not have to play where is my NFL game and on which platform is it going to be streaming? Because all of these Sunday afternoon games are either on CBS or Fox. The Sunday night game, which is Dallas at New York is going to be on NBC and the Monday night game Denver at Kansas City is on ESPN or ABC. So those are the only channels you got to worry about. You don't have to worry about your aunt's peacock login or your cousin's Netflix. It's all out there on regular TV for the most part. But still as you're saying that, it still sounds insane. Oh, yeah, there will be weekends that are just like just terrible. It's on CBS or Don NBC and I get it. Well, that's pretty normal. Those four are pretty normal. ABC ESPN NBC.

24:53What is it? Fox and CBS because that's what we're used to. Yes, it still is crazy.
