0:00Three, two, one! Yay! Welcome to Wednesday's edition of The Morning Show Podcast. A daily dose of audio to make your day a little better. What? The day is finally here, Carlymere, you nervous? Um, not yet. What about you gonna defend your Super Bowl ring? It is really scary. Okay, well, you're Super Bowl Championship, because you are Super Bowl Champion, even without the ring. I am. That's a sore subject, sorry. Um, I am very excited for today's game. We are flying the New England Patriots will be in Super Bowl 60. Yeah. I'm just, you know, just hopeful. It seems so fun. Just having to be here, guys. Just kidding. We'd better be here. So for those that don't know, Carlymere is one of the fantastic in-game hosts for the Seattle Seahawks. And a lot of people don't understand that when they hear it.

1:01They go, oh, am I gonna see her on TV during the game? She is physically in the stadium and on the screens in the stadium. Yeah. During like half time and during some of the like the sponsored commercial breaks. So like, what's one of the things people will see you doing today in stadium Carlymere? Um, I, I have a lot of military things that I'm doing today. Um, I am shouting out some military members like for what they've done in their community. I will get to introduce the half time show, which is Sound Garden. That's cool. Yeah, things like that. I'll be on camera for a lot of introductions, fan moments, things like that. So if you are coming to see the Seattle Seahawks at any point in the 2026 season, you will most likely, if you're paying attention, see Carlymere on the big screen. You'd also see here if you're going to any of the remaining Seattle rain game, which is our women's soccer team. Yes. I got to match this Saturday. Yes. There's a lot going on with you, Aluminum Field.

2:01Yeah. I'm just gonna move in there. All right. So give all the good vibes to Carlymere. Hopefully she doesn't stumble or stutter in any of her breaks today. Scott, don't say that because I've been reading my script struggling with words. Well, you just got it recently. So good luck to you, Carlymere and to all of the Seahawks to anyone who is a Patriots fan. You should have done better in life. And with that said, welcome to the Morning Show podcast. My name is Anthony. I'm Carlymere and today is Wednesday, September 9th, 2026. The core for the forehead lines you need to know. Look at the United States of America set in records over Labor Day weekend. Are we talking good records or bad records? Oh, bad. Oh, okay. Gas has never surpassed $4 a gallon on Labor Day weekend before this year. Okay. So look at us doing that. Yeah. Okay. The previous record for Labor Day was $3.82 a gallon in 2012. So almost 20 cents more. How insane is that? But we think it's bad for those of us that have to use the regular gas.

3:04How about that diesel? Oh. It is the highest. It has ever been in the history of ever in the US. Oh, so not just Labor Day. No, no, no, just ever. It is $5.85 a gallon. That is the national average. Now, my new, that's like actually not that bad when you think of the average because here our regular gas is like $593 a gallon and some stations. Yeah, but Washington is not the best state to use as an example. We have, I think the second highest gas in America. Well, we also for the record, don't pay income tax. Okay. But who uses gas? These big trucks. And some truckers are saying that every time they fill up, it could cost between $800 to $1,000. Many drivers are reporting that their weekly diesel expenses have gone from an $8,000 expense weekly at last year to nearly 12 to $15,000. Wow. And guess where all that extra money goes on us. Yeah. The consumers because the goods that they are transporting are now going to be more expensive.

4:04Yeah, it's a trickle up effect. And transportation gets more expensive than things we buy. Also get more expensive. Speaking of things that are expensive, beef. Ground beef is like, I think the national average is somewhere around $6.80 a pound. Now, that is for ground beef. Keep that in mind. And one of the things that the administration has tried to do to lower beef prices was import a bunch of foreign beef tariff free. So that would bring down a lot of the prices. Now the American ranchers were not happy about that because you're flooding the American market with non-American beef. So to make the ranchers happy, yesterday Donald Trump signed an executive order that could make it easier for ranchers to sell direct to their customers if those customers are local grocery stores or restaurants or things of that nature. Now, this executive order isn't going to make that happen overnight because the individual ranchers who can now bypass theoretically the processing plants would still need to

5:06figure out how to get USDA certification on their own without sending it to a processing plant. And if you are concerned with trying to buy American made beef to support American ranchers, this is something you might find very interesting. There has been a piece of legislation that some Democrats and some Republicans have been trying to get put into the farm bill. This piece of legislation would be the country of origin act, which if enacted, every beef package in America sold would have to signify where it was born and where it was raised. I don't know. You know what? I don't want to know. Well, this used to be a thing before I believe 2015. And then there was this loophole where even foreign beef could have a sticker that said made in America if it was processed in America, even though it was foreign. So this piece of legislation that is being fought for to get into the farm bill has hit a lot of hiccups, but it's something that we should all be aware of because it's something we could all probably benefit from.

6:08If you've ever wanted to go to the airport but not actually fly anywhere, why have good news for you? Just do the shopping. There's a new free program called Gateside by TSA Precheck and it lets eligible TSA Precheck members without a plane ticket go through security. Now 25 years ago, this was the norm because there was no security. And if your family was coming home from a trip, you could literally wait at the gate for them. I remember waiting at the gate for my older sister coming back from a trip to Disney World. They're going to be a kid. We haven't had that since 9-11. So just this week, as we're about to hit the 25th year. Yeah, we're timing. We're about to hit the 25th year of 9-11. I know, very weird. They've announced that visitors can see someone off, welcome them home, meet during a layover, which is pretty cool, or eat and shop inside the terminal for some reason. You want to go spend $12 for a bottle of water at the airport. You can now do that, but you do have to apply online one to three days in advance and be

7:13approved on top of your TSA Precheck that you already have to have. It's launching at 13 U.S. airports and Seattle is one of them. This is actually pretty cool. There's obviously the romantic or sentimental aspect of it. You can see someone who's been gone for a long time and greet them at the gate. There's also the practical, if you have an elderly parent that needs help getting onto the plane or something like that, you can now use this service or this pathway, I guess, to do that. Think about a lot of times, if a mom or a dad flies without the other parent with the kids, you meet me at the gate, you're now in charge. You're taking all of them. Think about that, so it will be helpful, I think, for families, but you know what? Do we need any more people around the gates now? I know we are still just about two months away from the midterm elections, but this might be the most confusing election season of all time. Because right now, you've probably heard us talk about this. There is a fight between states that have mail-in ballots and mail-in voting and the federal government.

8:14I'm using the USPS, United States Post Office, as like the battleground there. But on top of that, people in Missouri have an even more confusing time getting to the polls. So, Missouri is one of the states that was redistricted by the Republican-leaning legislature in the state. Those redistricting maps were used in the primaries in June. But the state Supreme Court just came in and said, those maps aren't legal. But then a federal judge came in all the same day, by the way, and said, no, we have to use those maps because you just use them because we just use them in the primary. And if you change the maps back to the old ones, then people are voting out of their primary that they voted in. It makes no sense. What is happening? Like, seriously, we are living in a trash can. It shows why the year of an election, you should not be able to change maps or voting policies because it is an absolute mess in the state of Missouri right now.

9:14So they might actually have to vote on illegal maps for their districts. A quick reminder, it's not all doom and gloom. Here's today's hope for humanity. Flag football has been all the rage lately. Probably because it's going to be in the 2028 Olympics. Of course, yeah. But, girls flag has been this incredible phenomenon that I've kind of had a front row of seeded watching over the last few years because this Seahawks and all of the NFL have kind of like championed girls flag football to make it much bigger than it was. Yeah, there was a Seahawks movement by former players to get girls flag football as a like a sanctioned state sport in Washington. Yeah. So Tyler Lockett and the Seahawks, basically, are responsible for making it a sanctioned sport. But now we're finally getting the numbers in after the NFL and every one of their teams were kind of like pushing for this to happen. So four years ago, 16,000 high school girls played four years ago, four years ago, 16,000.

10:16Yeah. Now, 102,000 high school girls are playing flag football. And what's crazy is half of the girls who start flag football have never played a sport before. So they're like, you know what? I'm going to play now. I'm going to do this now. So it is so cool to finally see these numbers and seeing girls get to do a sport that guys have gone to do at like a higher level for so long and actually having the legitimacy behind it of it being a sanctioned sport in a lot of states now. So shout out to the NFL and all of the girls playing flag football for giving us a hope for humanity. Anthony, what are you doing? Well, I'm checking out Alaska Airlines dot com because did you know, Carthamory, that in a little over a month, we can fly back to Italy nonstop from Seattle. Yeah. I'm just looking up flights right now. We got that same 5 30 PM flight you want to go? I mean, I said I would do this. It's Columbus Day weekend in October. I'm looking up flights. I think 10 hours in the air for five straight days in Italy and then we come back.

11:18I think it actually makes sense. Listen, I'm not against this. And listen, time's to take in because this is a seasonal flight. Yeah. And I've had so many people reach out to me and be like, oh my God, you seeing your post made me want to go to Italy. And I'm like, well, listen, like the Alaska Airlines nonstop flight runs from May through October. So you either go right now, we got to wait until May. Yeah, but you got two months to book your trip. Yeah. It's nonstop Seattle to Rome. And then you can eat all the ketchup, Pepe and the Cornetos. What are they called? Can I get it right? Cornetos. Yeah. And I can order a, a coffee. Am I doing it? Yeah, look at this guy. Listen, I spent a week in Rome. You did spend a lot of time in Rome. I'm basically telling them they don't they all thought I was Italian anyway. They did everyone in Italy did think Anthony was Italian. So highly recommend going to Italy. I was on the phone with my mom and she was like, yeah, my hygienist was telling me how everyone's going to Italy right now. And I'm like, yeah, it is the place to be. I don't know what is going on with late night TV, but I think we're seeing the end of it like period. So Jimmy Kimmel could be nearing the end of his time at ABC after more than two decades because his contract expires in 2027. And there are rumors that ABC is not going to renew him. I think that's a bigger discussion as to whether or not there's a space in our lives for late night shows anymore. I don't know. I don't know if there is. I don't either. Actually, he's been doing this for 24 years. That's crazy. It will be 24 years. And it's crazy to think he was actually doing late night talk shows even before that because he had, I believe it was the man show on Comedy Central. And he worked, I believe in nighttime radio, even before that in Seattle. Yeah, he briefly worked here in Seattle. I think he worked mostly in Los Angeles for what I remember. But I mean, it doesn't matter who they are, Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert. Yeah. I don't know that there is a world for late night TV anymore. And I like, I hate saying that. I hate saying that. I don't want that to be the case. Well, it's got to be tough for these broadcasting companies because it's one thing to maybe lose a little bit of money on random years on these shows because they pay a lot of money to get these shows on here.

23:38But to lump that in with getting yourself into trouble with the White House all the time, it might just not be worth the headache for some of these companies. We oftentimes talk about really cool collaborations here on the Morning Show podcast, especially in pop stop, sometimes nerd news. But before I can talk about this new collaboration, we've got to talk about spam for a moment. Now do you know Carl Emory? What spam emails? There are now going to be gift boxes of like I think 10 spam containers that have Pokemon characters on them in these nice display boxes and they're meant to be given as gifts around like the Korean version of Thanksgiving and the Lunar New Year. And they do look pretty cool like I kind of want the Korean Pokemon spam. This is insane. This is a real thing. And this is what I love about doing this podcast is learning through pop culture, through world news, whatever. These little intricacies about different places around the globe because now I know in Korea, it is appropriate to give spam as a gift. Can we buy it here though? I don't think so. I think it's a South Korea exclusive. So I might have to take a trip over there soon.

Well, I actually, like if you see me before some events, yes, but I actually stopped doing my makeup before because A, it was taking so long in the morning and then by the time I went on five hours later, your face melts.
