1:17
Can we not think about Oklahoma State baseball struggling against UCF?
1:20
Can we instead think about a cowboy baseball player, Nolan McLean, taking the bump with
1:25
America across his chest to win a WBC gold medal instead?
1:34
You are a Lockdown Oklahoma State, your daily podcast on the Oklahoma State Cowboys, part

2:26
Meanwhile, we get to talk about cowboy baseball of the United States of America variety because
2:32
yes, the cowboys did trouble to open big 12 play against UCF, but there is a former cowboy
2:36
in Nolan McLean that gets an opportunity redemption because he did face team Italy a few
2:42
days back and it didn't go super swimmingly for him.
2:45
He was dominating until he wasn't.
2:46
I'm sure a lot of us were hoping that he would get that redemption opportunity against
2:52
However, if you're going to be the best, you want to beat the best and as it sits right
2:55
now, Venezuela has gone through this tournament.
2:58
We're not talking about Japan or the Dominican Republic or Puerto Rico.
3:02
We're talking about Venezuela versus the United States of America and our dude, Nolan McLean
3:08
gets an opportunity to kind of write the wrongs.
3:11
The dude who has rock and roll for the match this year with a five and one record, 2.06
3:16
ERA, 48 innings pitch with 57 Ks to only 16 walks.
3:23
That is a reoccurring theme with Nolan McLean in the major leagues.
3:26
Whenever he was a AA, he had a 1.37 ERA, 30 strikeouts and only 26 innings, AAA, 2.7, 87
3:35
innings pitch and 97 Ks and then high AA, he also had 109 Ks out of just 116 opportunities.
3:46
This dude is an absolute machine.
3:49
He has what, 26 inches break.
3:51
He has the filthiest sweeper in the game.
3:54
It's all about control.
3:55
It's all about controlling the chaos for Nolan McLean and Team USA, who realistically kind
4:00
of had to battle themselves back into this position because it felt like they maybe
4:05
party a little bit too well after a couple big games, a couple big wins and that game
4:14
Not only did Nolan McLean get hit off a little bit there as the game progressed, but
4:20
defensively they were making uncharacteristic mistakes.
4:23
They were making a decent amount of errors.
4:26
One of the big things for Nolan McLean in here is he might actually have to go longer
4:31
He's certainly going to have to go longer than he did in his first outing for Team USA against
4:35
Team Italy because there's a chance that USA might be without a couple of its biggest
4:43
stars whenever they take this game, Mason Miller may not be able to rock and roll.
4:50
If that's the case, that's going to be slightly problematic because they clearly have the
4:56
guys necessary to come in and close the game out in a massive way, but it's all about
5:02
how many innings have you pitched and how is it going to be affected whenever it's your
5:07
time to go back to your team.
5:09
I completely understand why there is some potential reservations to, you know, having Mr.
5:13
Miller take the bump for Team USA, but at the same point in time, we kind of need this
5:20
And we're not going to be able to have Bednar either most likely.
5:24
Now, these guys haven't been completely ruled out, but it does seem to be a fairly common
5:30
consensus that Mason Miller may not be available and David Bednar also may not be available.
5:38
So you're two biggest closers because of other obligations and how many games that they're
5:45
having to play back to back and they're keeping their innings down quite a bit.
5:49
You're only talking about a couple innings here and there, but it's about having a good
5:54
relationship ahead of time with the organizations knowing good and down going well that this
6:01
And now we might have to interprolign to have Nolan McLean go a little bit longer than
6:07
You do have Tyler Rodgers that could come in.
6:09
You have Jeff Hoffman who just recently replaced Clayton Kershaw.
6:14
And then you also have Will Vest that was recently brought in, but make no mistake about
6:20
Miller and Bednar are the reasons that we've been able to close the doors often as we
6:23
have to get to where we are now.
6:26
As Paul Schien said, whenever you look at how Mason Miller plays the game and throws
6:30
the ball, it's kind of a wonder how anybody has success off of this dude.
6:35
So there's no doubt that if you are missing both Miller and Bednar, the chances for
6:39
Venezuela here definitely tick up quite a bit, which is why there's going to be more
6:43
on Nolan McLean shoulders.
6:44
There's going to be more on the middle reliever shoulders.
6:46
But if you can get five quality innings or even four quality innings, I don't know
6:51
I don't know what his count is going to be in relation to what the Mets would prefer
6:57
But at the end of the day, you got to get this up.
7:02
You don't want to put players in a bad position and hurt their arm or anything to that effect.
7:07
But I think a lot of these players have already spoken out about this is kind of the biggest
7:13
This is a world series kind of feel.
7:15
I don't know if you guys have been watching, but the Italy, Venezuela game, that roof was
7:21
going to be exploded if there was one on it, the United States game.
7:26
That was absolute madness against the Dominican Republic.
7:29
Shout out to the WBC for having a lot of these games played in Miami where there is a big
7:36
There's going to be a lot of Venezuela fans, a lot of Puerto Rican fans, a lot of Dominican
7:42
I don't know if that was by design because you couldn't have foretold that the United States
7:47
and Venezuela were going to be the two teams that matched up.
7:50
I think coming into it, a lot of people assumed that teams like Puerto Rico and the Dominican
7:56
Republic in Japan were going to be the ones that were rising.
7:59
To the top, definitely not Italy, definitely not Venezuela and even to some degree the United
8:07
We were not necessarily an afterthought, but traditionally like Japan has kind of been
8:12
the team to beat in this ordeal in Venezuela and Italy have found multiple times this season
8:19
where they've been extremely battle tested in this WBC.
8:23
It is pretty incredible to see team Italy get as far as they did.
8:26
I was going to open the show, making a joke about how I didn't know that Italy knew how
8:31
to play a lot of baseball, but they have a lot of good players.
8:34
I personally would have loved to see Nolan McLean get that redemption arc against the team
8:39
that did beat him and that did send a couple balls out of the yard against him.
8:44
But to be the best, you want to beat the best right now, Venezuela seems to be playing
8:49
the best in this tournament outside of Italy.
8:53
It's going to be an extremely exciting time seeing a coon, your junior go up against Nolan
8:59
And before we do that, can we talk about the Baltimore Orioles real quick and how they
9:07
drafted Nolan McLean?
9:08
We could have been having conversations about Nolan McLean, a cowboy and the holiday connection
9:15
with the Orioles, but instead we have to talk about him being with the New York Mets.
9:20
I don't give a hoot where Nolan McLean plays baseball.
9:23
I just like seeing cowboys in the major leagues do their dog on thing.
9:27
We're going to continuously see this because of the development, because of O'Brate stating,
9:31
because of the rich tradition in history.
9:34
But now we need to see a gold medal cowboy get his due.
9:44
Robin Hood is also a company that needs to get there due right now.

14:04

14:08
Now we get to slide in this segment to here and as you guys already have put together, the
14:15
pro day has been going on and there was some some cabboys that had a lot of nice performances
14:22
Brennan Rawls 41 inch vertical for the size that he is as a linebacker, pretty darn impressive.
14:27
Peter Harris seemed to steal the day for the most part, 4.8, 4.4840, 39 and a half
14:34
inch vertical had a 10 nine broad jump and put up 22 reps on the bench.
14:41
Parker Robertson was the guy who kind of came on the last few years going from the walk
14:47
on due to the glue guy to a special teams guy to not only a contributor, but a main
14:53
stay on the defensive side of the ball.
14:54
One of the biggest reasons we had success, the latter half of the season defensively
14:58
and ran a 4 4 7, which puts him one 10th of a second behind Brennan Presley's 4.46
15:04
at the pro day, obviously what he did to combine could have been significantly different.
15:12
It's all about opportunities though, and Parker Roberts and Robinson seemed to make the
15:16
most of his his opportunities, Charles Davis coming over from the UCO, he showed to have
15:21
some versatility with a 39 inch vertical and a 10 for a broad jump.
15:26
How about the quarterback slash returner, slash wide receiver, slash everything you need
15:30
him to be Sam Jackson, the fifth, he had a 36 and a half vertical, a 10 seven broad jump
15:36
to go alongside a 4.5, 40 yard dash.
15:40
How about the big body beast, Trent Howland, who yeah, they put on a little bit of weight
15:46
checking in at 262 pounds, which is like 15, 16 pounds off of his playing weight from
15:52
this previous season, he was still with all that mass, all of that, that six foot three,
15:57
262 pounds of him was able to have a 32 and a half inch vertical and nine three broad
16:05
jump and a 4 7, that still constitutes as a hefty tail back and goal line situations.
16:13
That might even be something that could be viewed as a fullback kind of role.
16:18
Trent Howland could be that dude that makes some things happen, he could be a short yardage
16:22
specialist. It's not like Chris Carson was out here blazing the 40 either per se, then you had
16:28
Sid Vinnie, Huffili, Kavusi with 24 reps on the bench, and then Brian McCoy, Jr. put together
16:36
22 reps. Now, I think it's fair that whenever you compare that to some of the other guys from
16:40
this previous season, do we have a bunch of NFL draft picks like Nick Martin, Colin Oliver,
16:44
Ollie Gordon, Corey Black, no, probably not. But when you see what Kenneth Harris did,
16:49
and you see the production of Brandon Rawls throughout his career in conjunction with what he
16:55
was able to do with this pro day, I think it begs the point how many of these guys are going to
17:01
get an opportunity. Brandon Rawls, six foot three, 230 pounds, 41 inch vertical, he should have
17:07
some opportunities here. At the end of the day, it's all about making the most of whatever
17:16
chances are given to you. And I feel like when it comes to the combine and a one win season,
17:23
most people were going to view Oklahoma State as pretty much the void of talent. When you look
17:26
at Brandon Rawls, you look at Brian McCoy, the complete embodiment of what they've gone through,
17:33
and the work that they've put in, not in Oklahoma State, but other places, it's exciting just to see
17:39
that some of these guys clearly put themselves in a position to be a late addition,
17:44
whether it might be an unsigned free agent. But what Kenneth Harris was able to do and Brandon
17:49
Rawls, I think they've definitely put themselves in a position to at least be in the conversation.
17:55
Oklahoma State is in a unique position, where we've had all of these NFL guys for so long,
18:01
and this is just one of those rare instances where it doesn't seem like we have an overabundance
18:06
of talent that could potentially even be picked up in the draft. However, it's pretty cool to
18:13
think that things are going to change pretty dramatically in this upcoming season.
18:16
Drew Mestermaker is young, Caleb Hawkins is young, Wyatt Young is fairly young. So a lot of these
18:22
guys that we brought in that could be first round, second, third round style of guys,
18:28
they could be back at Oklahoma State next season. A good chunk of them could be back the season
18:32
even after that. Now, in a perfect world, you'd have Drew Mestermaker, when the Heisman
18:38
in the next two years, and he's gone, you would have Caleb Hawkins be up for the Heisman,
18:42
when a Doke Walker award and move on in the next couple of seasons. And then an ideal scenario,
18:47
all of those things are still plausible, but we all know tons of things happen. It could be a
18:53
derailment because of physical injuries or never something that you want to see, but unfortunately,
19:00
they do happen every single year. So it could be fun in this upcoming season to talk about how many
19:07
guys Oklahoma State does have that are draft eligible. Joel Johnson is in that category.
19:13
Jashon Brown is in that category, camaps is in that category. And in the end of the day,
19:19
you're going to see some other dudes making moves, some of these transfer portal additions,
19:23
they have to be, they have to be big time, they have to have big time moments for the Cavaliers.
19:29
But it is a little bit different, whenever you don't have the connections with the guys that
19:34
have been here for three, four, five years. So wherever Jashon Brown or Joel Johnson or camaps,
19:40
wherever these guys end up going, because of the fact that they've been able to stay loyal and true
19:46
through multiple iterations of coordinators and coaches and systems and NIL and everything's
19:51
changed all around them to see those guys get the opportunity to the next level.
19:56
That's probably going to be worth its weight and gold this time next season.
20:01
So let me know down in the comments section what you thought about the Oklahoma State
20:06
pro day stuff. Did you think Kenneth Harris did enough to get himself a late addition when it
20:11
comes to the draft? Statistically, he seemed to have done quite a bit. And this previous season,
20:16
you saw him get better and better as a season progressed. Could that be because of the individual
20:20
coaching? Sure. Could it be because he did a lot of individual training with Dean Marlow,
20:24
who's fresh off of a long NFL career? Also very, very possible. Regardless of the reasoning,
20:30
like Kenneth Harris did potentially put himself in a position to be part of this draft conversation.
20:35
So it has Brian McCooley. Remember you've got a guy with almost 300 tackles in the last three
20:41
seasons. You've got to give that dude an opportunity at the next level. Brennan Rawls, he checks
20:45
outside speed, strength, skill, that all makes sense for Brennan Rawls. Is it Vinnie,
20:50
Hifili, Kavosi? Could he perhaps get a late addition? I think it's a possibility.
20:58
And at least we're getting to have this conversation after a one win season.
21:02
It's very possible that this doesn't happen again, where we don't have multiple cowboys going
21:09
through the draft process that are viable candidates, not only be drafted to be a contributor on their team.
21:15
It'll be fun to see what's one of these guys comes up out of nowhere and makes a name for
21:18
himself. It does feel slightly inevitable that one of these dudes is going to make his presence
21:24
felt and make a roster when we get to talk about that.
21:32
Right now we can talk about game at time at tickets. The biggest stretch of college basketball
21:37
is here, buzzer beaters, bracket busters, the unforgettable moments that everyone's talking
21:42
about the next day, being there live. Well, that's something for everyone that you should experience.
21:47
That's bucket lift kind of things. A hard part is finding the right tickets. One queues,
21:52
prices jumping around, price fees to check out. The game time app gives the advantage back to you,
21:57
the fans, with constant innovations. It's how you can unlock amazing tickets and experiences

23:04
event. The five hour energy flavor draft is still rocking and rolling with 18 different
23:09
flavors to choose from, including new options like confetti craze, fruity rainbow, or cotton candy.
23:14
There's something for everyone. The board is set. The flavors are ready. You know, I've got my number one
23:19
and I've tried a couple of these different flavors. I like the strawberry banana, right? The lack
23:24
of acidity is pretty beneficial. Hawaiian breeze. That might that might be in the running. But for me,
23:31
it's still strawberry watermelon. I like that candy flavor. I do. I like the sweet. I like the
23:38
tart. It's the ultimate flavor duo. Some flavors were just made to go together and evidently
23:43
strawberry and watermelon is in that list. Which one is going to be your number one, though, right?
23:48
Who's the one that you're going to ride with to the very end to the top of the mountain,

Last but not least, the cowgirls have an opportunity to take on Princeton of all teams
24:20
in the NCAA tournament. And why this is important is because Oklahoma State
24:26
is the Princeton of the prairie. Oklahoma State got our colors from Princeton. We were originally
24:33
the tigers because of Princeton. We had a lot of faculty in the very beginning that were from
24:40
Princeton, including some of the most prominent members in Oklahoma State's founding history,
24:47
part of Princeton. So there is a ton of parallels between Oklahoma State and Princeton.
24:52
So it is kind of cool that we get an opportunity here to match up against them because we don't get
24:56
the opportunities to place Princeton and much of anything ever. So I think it's pretty cool
25:03
that the cowgirls will get this opportunity to take on Princeton. And here's a little breakdown.
25:11
They are led by their all conference first team beast Madison St. Rose. She's at five,
25:16
10 guard averaging over 16 points a game, five and a half rebounds a game and two point two
25:22
assist a game. They also have Skybelker, a five nine guard averaging a little over 13 points a
25:27
game, two and a half rebounds a game, two point seven assist a game. Then they have a Fatima tall,
25:33
the six foot one guards last forward can score as well as she's averaging 13 points a game. Of course
25:40
you can get rebounds at seven and a half a game and two assist a game. Pretty impressive for a big
25:45
they have another big six footer Olivia Hutcherson averaging 11 points a game, five point seven rebounds
25:52
a game, one point four assist a game. And then they've also got Ashley Jay, she's a five eight guard
25:58
averaging just under 10 a game, three rebounds a game and almost four assist a game.
26:03
This will be a pretty good matchup for the cowgirls. Of course any team in the tournament is
26:08
typically going to be a good barometer for how good your team is or what your level of success
26:13
should be. The level of success for the cowgirls should 100% be to do what we didn't do last year,
26:20
which is to move on to be a part of the advancing conversation. Princeton is going to be a decent test.
26:27
You would think that Oklahoma State would physicality wise be you know far and away above Princeton.
26:33
And yes we've got two six foot five individuals but they don't play. Our six foot five ladies
26:40
haven't sniffed the court in any capacity whatsoever the season. There could be a multitude of
26:45
reasons why. But thankfully we did we could see in next season. This is going to be up to
26:54
a chola caught and praise egg bereva. A chola caught would be in six point one is going to be
27:00
slightly problematic. Praise egg bereva being six foot three theoretically should be somewhat
27:06
problematic. I think if we had to bang bodies down low you could throw faith hacker in there.
27:12
She could get some rebound. She could slow the game around. Slow the game down. But Lena Gerardi
27:18
five eleven. She's going to have to mix it up down low. A Hayley Timmer. She's pretty tall for a
27:23
guard. She's also going to have to get down there and make some things happen. Staley heard
27:27
is typically a big body beast that can bruise her way to the bucket. She's definitely going to
27:32
have to do that this game. We're going to need to see Amari Whiting continue to be that floor
27:37
general. We have to see Michael Craig get hot from the outside. We're going to have to see Jade and
27:41
Wooten have the capability to slice and dice through a defense because likely if Princeton paid attention
27:47
at any point in time this year to the cowgirls. A they know we're not the same team on the road. B
27:52
we're definitely not the same team when you're constantly putting pressure on us.
27:57
I always go back to that West Virginia game. I know the lady mountaineers are really,
28:01
really, really good. But we had no answer for that. We also didn't have Wooten. I get that right.
28:09
If you implement the fastest guard that we have and one of the fastest most elusive guards in
28:15
the big 12. If you implement her into that ballgame perhaps things look entirely different. But
28:20
we had a rough time handling that pressure. And a lot of times whenever teams start doing the
28:27
full court pressure in the last minute and a half that typically eats our lunch as well.
28:32
So this will be a good moment for J. C. Wood. To show that she's continuously adjusting. She's
28:39
continually adapting. She knows what is going to get the cowgirls over top. She knows that there is
28:46
a little bit of pressure since the cowboys are in the tournament. All eyes will be on the cowgirls
28:51
to get at least one dub in this darn thing. If you get past the first round anything could happen.
28:59
That's why we love March Madness because it's insanity. And you see eight, nine seeds and 10,
29:05
12 seeds make these crazy fun runs. It is less visible in women's basketball. I don't know why.
29:14
Men's basketball, the Cinderella stories are always the big story. But more often than not when
29:20
you're watching the women's tournament, it is usually the top two teams that always make it through.
29:25
It's very rare unless I'm wrong. Correct me down in the comment section. I don't recall very many
29:30
times in women's basketball where you have those Valparaiso, Butler, Gonzaga, Florida golf coast
29:38
kind of stories. Doesn't happen occasionally. Yeah. But more or less whenever you see the elite eight
29:44
in women's, it's typically the top seeds. So Oakland State is theoretically kind of in that
29:49
conversation as good enough to make something happen. But you're going up against the team right
29:55
away that is going to be out to prove that they belong. And JC Hoyton needs to prove that she can
30:01
win games in the tournament being good. It's awesome. Getting good recruits. It's awesome.
30:07
I mean, good at your transfer portal. That's all well and awesome. But you got to win games in
30:13
the NCAA tournament. She's good enough to do that. She's got to set that next bar. She's got to set
30:18
the expectations moving forward. Those expectations should be not only get in the tournament,
30:24
but win at least the game. So JC Hoyton, we have faith in the Hoyt House crew to go get her done
30:31
until then. That's all we're going to have for this one. I'm right here. As always, you know what I love.
30:34
