This is the D.P.H.R.O.N. Rothenburg Podcast. Let the wild rumpus begin! Catch us live weekday mornings from 6 to 10 a.m. on ESPN, New York. The MSG Network and Streaming Live on YouTube. This is D.P.H.R.O.N. Rothenburg on ESPN, New York. The MSG Network and Streaming Live on YouTube. Oh yeah! You know what today is, my friend? Say it with me. Football. Football. It's football. Yep. That's what it is. Today is football. So put all your worries to the side or your illness to the side or your back ailments to the side because today is football. Today is football. Yeah. I got to tell you. Yep. I'm very excited about the football. Uh-huh. I'm not overly ecstatic about the game we have tonight. Not that I want to enjoy it and consume it and it's football and what's the old saying? Like a bad day on the ski slopes is better than a great day at school.
Yeah. Or golf course. Right. Right. We're like a bad piece of pizza still. Right. Right. But I'm not really last time for some reason. Juiced up for Patriots, the ox. I'm juiced up for football. You're juiced up for football. Yeah. I would say I feel kind of the same. I don't feel like we're talking about the Seahawks enough after winning the Super Bowl. And then there are a lot of people that you hear and think the Patriots are going to take a step back. So I didn't feel like there's a lot of excitement around the Patriots. You have the whole variable Rossini thing. Right. All the talks really have been about what the Rams have done. Because the Rams, well, Seahawks won. They're not overly sexy. Right. Their quarterbacks not overly sexy. Yeah. I had a good team. I'm not saying they're not a they're a terrific team. They beat the Rams to get to where they were. Then they crushed the beat of the Patriots to crush them. It was a terrible game. But the point is like they haven't added a miles carrot. They haven't done anything. Right. I mean, I'm excited to see Giddarian price play tonight. I look forward to what he can. Yeah. I mean, they lost Kenneth Walker. I understand. I think there's still some questions. I mean, I don't know how you could still have questions.
I guess there's one. There's one the whole thing you love that. Well, about San Donald. Well, he didn't play well in the Super Bowl either. I know, but you've seen it in two straight years now, though. I mean, you saw he had a really good season with Minnesota. And at the end, wasn't great. And then wins a Super Bowl with Seattle. So maybe it takes another year, but quarterback. I mean, Mike McDonald is showing you that he's like the defensive version of Sean McFae. Yeah. If you've watched any of the hard knocks too, just, um, what a division that is. It's an unbelievable division. What a division that is. It really is. You get a chance to see all of it in the next two days. How awful. Did you see this story? I don't argue with Tommy's name. I forget his name. Uh, the guy. What's his name, RJ on the Niners? Alfred Collins. Alfred Collins. Do you see this story? No. Oh, this is terrible. Oh, no. So he fly. It's awful. You're feel. I think I heard the, yeah, okay. Fly over. Yeah. They have a practice there. Yeah. He, the Patella tendon. He heard himself. Yeah. Done. Out for the year. So now he's got to be in Australia, getting medical care, not playing in the game, and then flying back injured with the team.
Maybe hang out though. Maybe you just like, you know, the season's over. Maybe I just see Australia. Surfing. No, no, you can't serve you. It's all your Patella tendon. I'm saying like you just, go check out those big jacked up kangaroos, you know? Yeah. In it. Yeah. I guess. But over. You might need a surgery also. You're going to definitely probably need a surgery. Right. Just wait on me a week. Yeah. Great. No rush or guy. Yeah. Come on. You feel the power. I mean, what does that thing called that station? That's not just the station. What is that, RJ? The power thing. The sub station. Substation. Substation. It gives there what's bigger than a station? Because that looks bigger than the station. It looks bigger every time you look at it. It looks like it's growing. It looks like it's getting bigger and getting closer. It's almost the same size of the stadium. If I said to you, you're going to gorgeous home. No, I would go. You wouldn't, you wouldn't, right? No, never. No. Even like there was a power line. No, you wouldn't. RJ, you're going to be looking for a home soon. If I told you, you're going to get your home down the block from that sub station. Would you be a fan of that? Would you like that? Would you like that? No, probably not. No, we're not.
I went to places that was going to buy a piece of property on the lake. One of the nicer pieces of property as far as lake views had that exact problem. With the sub station. No, there was a line. The power line with straight. That was like, there's no chance. Yeah, I'm not. No, I don't care where you want to off. No way. No way. I'm like, I'm not doing. No way. So we got a lot to do today. Yeah. I'm excited. Multifaceted excitement. I'm excited. I'm upset. Why are we doing emotions right now? Is that what we're doing? What are we doing emotions? Sure. But why be like, why are you excited? Get the show started with how you feel? Yeah, I feel excited about football. But why why are you upset? Why? Because I felt like we got robbed last night. Like a great tennis moment. You're upset. I mean, what? What an awful situation. A awful situation. And I knew it when the Michelson Tiafo match went past seven. Yeah, I'm like, I was like, oh crap. Like in the midst, I got home late and I was like, for what the Algris Shelton? Yeah, I was like, oh, I hope it didn't start.
It was like 10, 55. I was like, what? No. So it didn't even, it started after 11. Yeah. If you don't know, listen to this story. So Pagula and Navarro play, which by the way, they estimated is the highest family net worth match in the history of tennis. The Pagula is worth 15 million. And I guess Navarro is 15 billion. 15 billion. And then Navarro family is worth like four billion. So yeah, like 19 million combined. Whatever. So that goes long. That goes to like 10, 35. They started the Shelton Algris match after 11. Yeah. So listen to this. So I'm, I'm, I can't. I just, I just, I won't even, I'm not even going to start because I get sucked. I can't, I can't do it. I won't do it. So I go to bed. You woke up to pee. I woke up to pee. Yep. 325. Yeah. I go on my phone in the bed. I go, hmm, I wonder, I wonder who won. Right. Like I'm assuming you're assuming Algris won. It's over Algris won. No.
Fifth sat, I go, wait. Fifth sat. Six five. Yeah. In the fifth, I try my phone. Like I, I start to, I hear an hour. It goes, what are you doing? Right. Oh, I can't, I can't watch the match. No, I get up, go into the bathroom. No, you didn't. I watched the, the, the Algris hold to go six six. Yeah. And then the tie break. Wow. Yeah. All right. So yeah, I mean, he got some of it. Yeah. And then I made sure immediately the second I saw the, the last point of the match, I was like, what time is it? 333. Wow. And then you went back to sleep. Yeah. No, no. I'm actually bad. Easily. Yes. Well, I guess I mean, you got a little good, a little bit of good that's criminal. I know. How could you do that? Well, I was, what is it? And then it's an old tournament. Oh, what are they going to do though? I don't know. Just have a play today. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know what that was for is, but that was not it. That was a featured match last night. I know, but why not start it first then maybe, maybe started it seven, seven, fifteen. So it's like, like guarantee that that one's going to start at a certain time. And then you can play that. I don't know what you're supposed to be. If you want to stay up for next one, here's what maybe you do.
If you start on, and I know it's football day, we'll go back to football. We got the Yankees Aaron judge all of it. That's when again, unbelievably right. Your guy, Garrett Wilson has some things to say. Maybe this is what you do. And I don't know that this is the right answer. Maybe you start that match on the main stadium. Right. You start on ash. And if it goes past 10, 30 and move it, no, then you put the next match on the second stadium. Right. Yeah. Because just to have matches going till three, three in the morning. Yeah, it's too late. Especially that is ridiculous, especially that match. That's that is now the match of the tournament. It will be the match of the tournament. And nobody will have gotten to see it. Well, the other problem though too is you're talking about, I mean, what a hopefully as an American tennis fan, I mean, Ben Shelton is, it feels like, yeah, the next guy, and you're talking about one of the biggest, biggest wins of his career. I believe he's ever been. Oh, no, this is this is the biggest win of his career. And you didn't get a chance to watch it at the US Open. So he won by the way.
So he wins a fifth set, extended tiebreaker that go to 10. He wins, I think, was 10, seven and wins the match in five. So now there will be an American in the finals because he plays T-OFO in the next round. Well, had a unbelievable comeback of his own yesterday, where he was down two sets to non and Michelson was serving for the match and he came back to me. And then he was devastated. Oh, I have how about that? Awful. Good for T-OFO though. Like he's both a salesman. Because he's a gentleman. Yeah, real gentleman. Because he handled himself the right way. So I don't want to listen. I could talk tennis all day. I don't think we should. But that's it's disappointing that that happened. It's just a huge moment. I guess one of those moments. I don't think there's a lot of people that went went into last night thinking that Shelton would be the Algaraz and then you know, to have it happen and not be able to watch it because the mental 330 in the morning sucks. But I gotta tell you, so I have it on. I'm in the bathroom. I'm watching on my phone on the ESPN app, which is unbelievable. And it's mobbed. Oh, yeah. No, I do. That's few people came to watch that match. But I mean, it was probably 80% sold out at 330. So what do you do now? If you're there, you punch in today.
You can't do anything. You tap out. Yeah. Don't you get sick day? You call like I'm I was at the match and I'm just not. No, I mean, we would come to work as a jumping. We started six then we're done at 10. So we would just probably just come right from. We have to. We never know. You come right from the match. Yeah, yeah. We have no choice. Into the studio. Like Raymond does that with the next sometimes. We're West Coast. And it's terrible. And it's terrible. And he's a zombie. Yeah. That's right. All right. So what I was going to tell you before we started the whole feelings thing. I thought we don't feel like it. I'm here. Ray, you have any feelings going on? How do you assess your feeling? Like one feeling. Yeah. Yeah. If anything feelings wise, you want to get off your chest right now? No. No. Great. Well, you feel good. Yeah. Everything's good. Home, home, life, family, everything. Everything's awesome. That's nice. Nothing negative. All positive. Great. So your feelings are a lifting. They're good. I think so. Great. RJ. Anything feelings. Because I didn't get to mind yet. I started. I got interrupted. What rich Rick has some strong feelings. It's fine. Raymond has nothing. You have any feelings going on today? I feel great. Football's back. Niners are back tomorrow.
I feel good about it. You feel good about that family. Everybody's sleeping through the night. We're loosely loose. I mean, yeah, I mean, there's one member. We have we have to sit her down for a little chat at some point about the sleep and do the night thing. But there's her lack of sleep effect. Your sleep. Because you're up. But what time can I fix everybody's? I got up today through you. But she woke up at two something. Did you watch the end of the match? I didn't, but I knew what was going on. Andrew was the one who handled Mia. What's up? Maybe you said me to the substation. Maybe that's the thread. No, you don't. I don't want to do that. Maybe it's the thread. You want to go. You want to go. Do you want to go? You get a cry to 30? You know where you send you? California. Go practice with the Niners. I'm curious. You're a thought though. Because Rick and I were talking about yesterday. The giants are almost inheriting the weird debt that is the Rams travel. Because I'm pretty sure the Rams just landed a couple hours ago. Not even kidding. So they're, Rick and I were talking about the Rams to kind of send themselves up for the rest of the season. We're two and beyond. Week two is you.
And Aaron Donald is not playing. So he stayed back and then you're probably going to get a week two. Okay. So does that put more on trying to get something done this Sunday night for you? Yeah. I've already looked at it and I don't do this. I don't get an extra rest. Yeah. And you're playing the Cowboys, which is like going to be an emotional first game on Sunday night. I don't do this often. I look at week two for the giants. We're not going to win that. No, I think I make serious. Like they're just, there's very infrequent amount of games where you look at you're just like, that's not going to. I don't look at that as a game. The giants are going to win. Now if it gets into the heat of the battle and it's tied at 17, you know, answering the fourth quarter, I can change my expectations. But right now when the schedule came out, I look week two, that'll be a loss. So yes, doesn't make week one even bigger. Absolutely it does. And that's why I told you if they're Owen two and they're home to Tennessee and they lose that game, it's mother me. Then I'm done. Then I'm out. Yeah, but you still then you turn around and play Arizona. I mean, you have a chance to go. I'm not going Owen three again. Why, but you could be three and three after the first six. What do I have?
I have Arizona. You got Tennessee Arizona. The commanders in the Saints. Yeah, I guess it's, I don't care. I know I can't go Owen three again. I don't have that bandwidth. I'm going to do it. I shouldn't be Owen three. You should be four and two after that. I mean, it should be. I'm going to beat the Cowboys. I'm going to lose to the Rams. Even if you lose to the Cowboys, I think your PSA should be just relax. First two weeks, may not be what you like. Could be a slow start. Offense trying to figure it out. Maybe the league numbers isn't 100%. Maybe it's run into a buzz on LA. You compete. No compete against Dallas. It just isn't enough. And then you know, LA is going to be a tough spot. And then you reel off the next four. Now you're four and two. Yeah, four and two would be great. But I really do believe. If they lose, I'll be heartbroken regardless. I really do believe the eye test is very important for the Giants on Sunday. If you go out and you lose that game, 27, 21, and it's a game that's very competitive into the fourth quarter, and they lose. I think you know, okay, I can see.
If you go out there and you get bludgeoned again by Dallas, I'll be despondent. I think the way that the NFL set this up with these two matchups for the jets and the Giants. You have you have the potential to have like real strong feelings either way. Right. Just for the whole Sala, you know, it's a team that you feel like. I mean, it's also a team that won what three games. They have the second pick. They have the fourth right. Right. So there's so that there's a lot of like more. No, Tate has looked awful. There's a lot of emotions that are wrapped up into that game. And then on the Giants side of this, it's the Cowboys. And we all know how you feel about the Cowboys. And if it doesn't look good, it's because it's the Cowboys, like if they look at it, it's like, it's like, okay, it's never have to go. If it doesn't look good against the Cowboys, it's like a more the same. Like this is, we take it out of our own way. Right. The Rams were expected to be the operational line of the NFL. And smart by the NFL too, I'll putting the jets to the Titans week one. Yes. You played the jets in Titans week 11. No, no cares. Not one per. There's some real real juice storyline. I'm a person for this game. Oh, especially with this article coming out with the athletic talking about how
you know, Woody and Sala felt about each other. And it was, I guess, did you see the story? I guess they celebrated that Douglas and Sala were celebrating as if they were like released from prison. Well, I think how, I mean, it's how people around the NFL, I think feel about the jets just in general. Like, you know, Robert Sala leaves, you know, gets fired, goes as, you know, a good year as a defensive coordinator again. And it's like all is forgiven. Like who could succeed with the jets? We're not going to hold that against them. Right. It's right. You have one year. And then you, okay, you know, let's give you a touch of job because we see it. We're doing it. We're doing it. I haven't went to the jet. Oh, the jets. Yeah. But I got to tell you this. If Aaron Glenn has another one of these babies, and he's now, I don't know. I don't know that I don't know if he's out. Fair. Whenever he gets out of the jets, I don't know that there's another job waiting in the wings for Aaron Glenn. I'm not after what you saw last season. And now, I hope you call on the plays this season. See, I get again, like, I don't know how to feel. It's weird because I've seen so many different sides of this. I've seen people that are just like,
like, jets are going to win week one. You can guarantee it. And then ties going to jets going to be three and two. Like, it's, I don't know if it's just the optimism of the season or as a jets fan, you want to buy into what's going on. And hey, we got all this talent. But I feel like we've played that game so many different times. I mean, when we brought Aaron Rodgerson and I know it was like the first four plays, like that team was support. Like, I was the one that was like, whoa, whoa, whoa. Like, let's take the, let's get off the whole super bowl thing. Jet's fans rarely have a chance to be so excited. No, I know. But we're pushed into that. Right, but he came back, but he came back. And then it was still like, look at all this talent around Aaron Rodgers. And I know he was coming off the Achilles, but still is like, go back to being excited. And they won five games. Yeah, it's like we told we get ourselves all worked up and think, like though, well, you know what, Aaron Glenn is showing a lot of, a lot of, a lot of maturity because, you know, he's realized that he made some mistakes last year. And he wants to call plays like, no, he didn't want. Well, what are you doing? They had Wake Martin Dale. It was like, like, okay, here's the contract. And then what he's like, wait, I'm paying millions more. To have a guy when you're supposed to be that guy.
I know. What are we doing? Um, I sometimes it depends on the team. The situation will give guys the benefit of the doubt. Aaron Glenn to me. And I'm not saying anyone else has to act like this. I give him nothing until he proves he's capable. He, he, I thought he was so bad last year with the media. I thought with the coaching, with the team, with the way they play with everything. Yeah, until he shows me that he's a competent, capable coach in this league. I do not buy into Aaron Glenn. No, I don't know how you could. I mean, you're talking about, no, maybe the first, maybe the worst first season as a head coach in the history of the franchise. Maybe one of the worst seasons ever. It was terrible for a coach. I mean, they were non-competitive. No, they started on 7 and we were celebrating. Then we're going to control the draft. I mean, that's what they turned this thing into as which, which is amazing to me again, when the conversation going into the higher was how excited everyone was, you know, blood in the ground. Was a jet? No, what, no, knows what it means to be a jet. And can you imagine with this talent that you just, like, some of which you just traded, like if they're coached, if they're coached the right way, after what you saw, I mean,
hey, listen to me, it's not going to be, maybe the playoffs, but it'd be a step in the right direction. And then we're all in seven. It's like, yeah, yeah, right. Remember this excitement? Remember the week one, the Steelers, Boswell Kicks and Longfield was like, okay, we lost. I just, the fields was great. And then week two is the bills. It's like, all right, we're going to take them down because, I mean, you see the progress we're making. That was not true whatsoever. So the reason I had a double excitement, I was telling you before, we have Stump Rothmurg 750 ish today, but not only do we have the signal open, it's the new open of the segment. And Argy said, that's his masterpiece. After yesterday's open, leaves me to believe that it's just going to be five or six clips of all RJ. You feel away. RJ. I don't feel any way, but I mean, I think it's a statement as to how Argy said what it is. It's what all of us is. Is it going to be a lot of me? Because if it's not, maybe you quickly adjust because you see he's feeling very sensitive about this. Listen, the ink is dry, the open to the opens. See? Is it more Dave than yes and wreck it? That's more Dave all day. Is it? No, please don't. It's all day.
It could be all Dave three months ago or so it was Dave complaining that the opens had too much of him. It's way too much. Oh no, it's too much of his mistakes. Yeah. You know what it is? I make so many mistakes. You're like Don Larson. You throw in perfect games every day. No, I'm not. I'm taking it. I'll just open that phone. There's nothing for him to do. I'm taking Shrapnel yesterday from your buddy. We're not. Who does that? I'm wearing a nice, a nice, like a nice, Ralph Lauren denim shirt. He's like, denim's an interesting job. Why is denim an interesting choice? Can we, denim's a nice choice? Whatever you wear, I think you look great. I'm like I criticize you. This guy's wearing, this guy's wearing cargo shorts. A training camp is busted. My chops about a denim shirt. Just, we all look terrific. Yeah, actually look nice. That's a nice, did you go home and wardrobe? What happened here? Don't you worry about what I've done? I've never seen these shirts. Well, don't you worry about what I've done? The cherry go shopping for you. No, no, no. This is a shirt that's been in my closet and it was a little tight, but now you fit on it. It's now it's loose. And now it's, yeah, astramatically lost. It's startling. It's not great. I don't love it. It's not, let's start eating. I, last night, but the thing is it's like,
I ate, we got Greek, and I ate, and I had half of my dinner. I was like, I don't, I don't feel great anymore. Oh, what about some protein shakes? I could do that. Maybe like a nice, like a, a casing, that's the overnight protein you should be taking. Again, it's casing protein shake. All right. I would consider that. What's the mixture of cows on? Yeah, because I, like, chicken, I love it, but it's like, you know, I had the lemon soup like from the Greek. All that soup. I love, I love, I love, I love, I love Greek, period. It's wonderful. So, yes, we've, we got a lot going on. Yeah, you were double excited today. So good start to a Wednesday. I feel like today's been a good start. I feel like today's been a good start. Every single dollar that that was going to happen. Listen, Davis, he's, he's on his game. He's making sure I've a little I want to make sure everyone is comfortable in this new switch over. Wait us and review us wherever you get your podcasts. I get a nasty email from already. Yeah. Herbert Balls. Herbie Balls. Herbie Balls. He says, today's the opening day of football, you guys don't even touch on that. What else do we want to touch on? Well, we talked about that. And our trip,
we talked about the injury to the night. We talked about that last time. We talked all sports. He goes, you've talked tennis, segment opens, Greek food for like 10 seconds. Yep. Weight loss. Yep. I'm a brand new listener at MSG. You've not lost me. Stop. Come on, Herbie. Herbie, don't quit yet. Herbie, you got everything, Herbie. I mean, the fact that we fit all that into one segment, I shoot those good segments. I mean, but that's a lot to fit in. I feel like you're dialed in today. I feel like you're your investment of you today. I had an ice nap. I had an unbelievable nap. I don't know what it turned to be off too much. I had no nap yesterday, but I had like this little nap. Oh, today all the sleep that I have accumulated over the last it goes quickly. I don't want to the great nap. Yes, today. Good for you. I was in bed by noon and then turn over. I was like, what? We're trying to get herty back. All right. We're trying to bring herby back. All right, Herbie. Don't want to hear about your two-hour nap in the middle of the day. Sorry. Well, everyone else is working. Yeah, but I was on no so whatever. Good on. All right. Forget it. So judge. Yes. Go ahead and say a little, Aaron, I want to think that I'll turn herby off. Start. No. Sport. Oh, sports. That's it. Got it to the sports. All right. So.
That should get him back. He's back now. Do you think we got herby? Herbie's back. After you ripped him for 45 seconds and yelled. I deserve it though. Herbie deserved it. Give us more than one segment, man. I also think this is what he's saying. Him saying that we didn't talk any football in the opening segment is not true. Gas and I. Well, it's not true. It's not true. It's sports. Got to tie a herbie at some point. I'll be back. He's probably back now. He didn't leave. Here we give us another. Because he says he's out. But he's not out. He's not out. He's still listening. He's just saying listen. He's just saying listen. I heard he heard he. Yeah. So what do you think about Judge last night? Oh, what do I think about Judge? I didn't look rusty. Well, I think the first that bad was a great example of that. Right. I mean, you talk about two things. Okay. To the point we made yesterday, the impact they'll have on this lineup. I think what it just does for you as a team confidence wise, knowing you have one of the best hitters in baseball back. Right. It's your captain. That's like, that's a big even if Conor McDavid wasn't the best version of himself. But just having that,
having that presence on the. I'm having. I'm on the. Yeah, totally. Having 75% of ego are back there as your goalie is going to just make everybody feel more comfortable. A great. Um, there's still pitch on him like he's Aaron judge. And then that first that bad, he goes up to oh, and then the next two pitches are usually pitches if he's it was laid on those if he's dialed. Those are night night. Right. See you later. He looked very rusty. Yeah. He looked very rusty. I don't think he had a plane to field. But what's more concerning is this injury. Like that it's not like just completing the rear view mirror. Like it sounds like it's just like, hey, I don't have any. I'm not having any. The moment he's okay. Right. Right now there's no symptoms. But you knew you knew. I mean, nobody. It's a broken bone. Like that's the thing. That's why I keep telling you like I can't wait to like really find out what's going on here. That's a little suspicious. If we've completely shut you down from all activity and it's a bone. It's not a ligament. It's not. Right. He's got it. It should be healed. Right. Like he's got some cartilage stuff going this. This is a bone and you've been out for three months. And it's not like what is exactly going on.
Right. A bone injury. That's not a massive right catastrophic break in three months. Should be fine. Correct. Yes. And it's it's still here. This is not like he's been battling through and he's been playing. So it really has that time to heal. Properly. This is like he was completely shut down to the point where we're like, we were excited that he was doing stuff outside. Right. Right. He's outside. Okay. Great. Right. Nice. Right. Some of the updates are a little bit unbelievable. All right. They stand. Yeah. Right. I guess I'll one tweet like it's like he's come back from polio. Right. Right here. Yeah. He's taking his skills out. Out to the he's a lot outdoors. Out to the out to the fields. Right. Yeah. Great. Unbelievable. But also like playing the game where it's like I'm like I'm upset that boon took what do you think was going to happen. They know that they can't win a world series. Now you are thinking to just like, hey, you've been off three months. Just go play the whole play the whole game. Care. I mean the Rockies are the perfect landing spot. Yes. Come back because it's not like it's a it was going to be an overly competitive. You're still it's still kind of one. It's still. It's still the one that I mean through the eighth inning. I know. I know.
And I mean it's a one run game. How about that run the Yankee school? That was I mean, I know if you're Yankee's finney like yeah, that's great. That was that was a pathetic. Yeah. That is. Oh, you wonder why the Rockies are the Rockies. Right. I mean that that play if you didn't know what they were who they were and you watch that one play like oh, oh, and there. That's why they're 55 and 85 or there it is. Yeah. I mean, just not paying attention. Catchers just kind of like zoomed. Well, where did he think he thought it was going to bounce it into the catcher. The catcher's like, I don't like I'm not paying attention. No, what did the catcher think? Well, you would you wouldn't have your heaven. But there was with all there was no one going anywhere. So why would why would you like this thing? There's guys standing right there. Why wouldn't you just like nicely talk to him as opposed to trying to talk to him? People at 12 that you coach 12 you if they did that. I have a never-spreake you would freak out. Yeah. A majorly team just did that last night. Yeah. Makes you feel better. Does it or does it just make you question what the hell is going on in Colorado? Both, but it makes you feel better. I guess. Yeah, like he's making it. Because the start of the play was like, oh God, can you pick up the ball for you? Yeah. Right? Yeah.
He had two errors on the same play. Yeah. Cost you a run. Give it free run. Free run. Free run. In a game where runs were to premium. Yeah, there's nothing worse than that though when you coach like 11 or 12 and it's like they just start throwing the ball around. It's like, no, no, stop. Somebody just hold it. Please get it into a middle-end field there. But I love the catcher. He's like, the ball just went right by. He's like, oh, there it is. Right. And nobody's backing up. But whatever. So I think that's what happens though. When you get, I mean, you get to this point of the season and you're as bad as the ruckus are. But I like that. That's the one thing I think is the most undertalked about. I'm not undertalked about. Underdiscussed? Underdiscussed? Does that make sense to you? More like it. It doesn't sound like a break. It didn't sound like a break. It didn't sound like a break. Is the mental part of this whole thing? It's like that. It is the hardest part. Your body feels like crap. Like this thing you can do to try to make yourself feel better. But like trying to get yourself mentally prepared every single day, especially in baseball, where it's every single day. And being as bad as the ruckus are. And now you can see the finish line. It's like that. You're just bringing your own. That's got to be your own energy.
That's your own energy. Like I, this is what I'm trying to do for us. Not to get too far off topic at all. And I don't want to talk a lot about the meds. But I give them that to Monica McCredy. But I leave it there. But it also concerns me though. Well, you're good now that you're playing meaning. Correct. Correct. Yeah. Like I don't understand that part. Like when the expectations were high, you're terrible. Now your seasons completely fall in the part. It's like, hey, we got to just go have fun. And now you're good. Right. Well, guess what happens next year. You're going to have expectations through the roof again. But let's not do too much meds right now. All right, let's get back to Judge. He was asked the question. It's important. How did you feel? Well, great. I play half a game. So I don't know what to say about that. I think I had a long conversation about that with the manager when he went to take you out. How hard did you play to just stay in there for a whole night? I respect boonies. So whatever he says, I'm going to do. But I'm not happy about it. But that's where my guy Ramos picked me up. And a nice little three room home where they're to kind of put the game out. So we can be comfortable going into the last inning. But yeah, not too happy about it. You don't hear why you play in this game though. I don't understand why. I don't think there's a manager in sports
that protects his players more than Aaron Boone. It's unbelievable. And by the way, like maybe the, one of the nastiest markets to do it in. Right. They'll actually go to the point where it's like, he's freaking out again. Because obviously it feels like it's like the most common thing. A kid has a tough day in school and they come home and they freak out on their parents. Yeah. Like the way Boone reacts on the other team or whatever it is. I can't do it to the guy. I'm going to go. I'm going to go crazy at the umpires. What are we doing? Like this wasn't something that you already talked about. Like, here's the plan going in. It doesn't. It sound like he had no idea that he was going to be taken out of the game. Why are you playing this game? What did you think was going to happen? Well, you were just going to bully your way into playing nine endings. But if the goal was, Aaron, we're not going to play you for full five at bats. Bulls. This wasn't a conversation that this was not discussed beforehand. Yeah. Like I play half a game. Well, wasn't that the plan? Like you weren't. But it doesn't. It doesn't sound like that. So I don't understand. Listen, I mean, he doesn't typically sound this annoyed. He was annoyed the one time they gave his like injury. He was doing what he played a game. Like that's what I'm saying. Like game. Is he doing this? Like just as he's not.
It sounds annoyed. Yeah, but does he want like does he want the fan base to feel like, hey, no, no, I wanted to. It's their call. I wanted to. Why? But why not? If he, if, first of all, Aaron judges below beyond, you know, anyone who likes him in this town. Well, for the most part, yeah, I don't want to get to that conversation. Right. But you know what I'm saying. So it's not like you need to curry favorite fans love you. So if I mean, I think it's pretty understandable. He hasn't played a game in months. If he's going to leave the game, you know, midway through, yeah, you're going to work him back slowly. And it's not like you lost the game where people like you don't like of all the players, you don't need to play like this tough guy routine where it's like, no, no, that was not me. I'm mad about it. Well, listen, listen to you being managed though. Like, but I think it's the right is. How did you feel after the game? Listen to this anger. It's a great. I play half a game. So I don't know what to, uh, what to say about that. I think the catalog conversation about that with the manager when he went to, to take you out. How hard did you play to just stay in their purple? No. I respect the one. So whatever he says, I'm going to do. But, you know, I'm not happy about it. But, you know, that's where my guy, Ramos picked me up and put a nice little three on home where they're to kind of put the game out. So we can be comfortable going into the last inning.
But yeah, not too happy about it. It's I'm a, I mean, that sound by this very, yeah, I understand at all. This was not just for a team that's like, for the game, like, bond up with everything. Yeah. Like, I mean, this should be something. Forget Booney. What Booney? Like, this is like trainers. Like, there's a lot of people involved in this. I'm sure Cashman has the same. What's going on here? Like, do the best player in baseball? He sounds like he had no idea he was going to come out of that game. I have a hard time believing that. I was why we playing games. So, so the, but why do you don't need to be the guy like, I wanted to be in the game all the way. Nine innings. Right. Like, we know you're what's up. You've been out. You're Aaron judge. You're beloved. And you guys want the game static that you're back. Right. Like, what are you talking about? Very, very strange. Thanks for listening to a D.P. H. Rowan, Rothen Brood podcast. Bring it. Looking for more access to the show. Why? Because you know why follow us at ER on ESPN. I have a rebuttal from someone else who goes after, um, Herbie Balls. Yeah, Herbie Balls. He said Kevin Cook.
He said, the tangents off of sports talk is what makes the show great. Please never change that. Herbie can take his balls elsewhere. This is supposed to be entertainment, right? We're all talking about the same thing every single day. You got to add something to the mix. Yeah, I was feeling. Listen, if we don't talk any sports, I'm Greek now, that'd be a problem. Big good show though. No, I'll stop. If today we didn't play any sports, well, not today, but just in general. I'll say, listen, you got to show you. You got to get zero. So you get a July. Those are some of our favorite shows. What the COVID we're watching. I mean, KBO that was awful. Breaking down every second of my last dance. Right. And then when Scotty and I have to and then Michael had this retort. Michael's a cold stone killer. Yep. Who was it? Who was the player that he LeBratford Smith? Was that the guy that he, uh, he says he's like, he talked so nasty to me. Yeah, I had to. I had nothing. Yeah. Yeah, he made it up. I was like that. I'm so impressive, man. I don't know. What did we not have sports until it was baseball. It was the first thing to really come back, right?
And that came you know, like Major League Baseball, right? I think Major League Baseball is the first to come back. Yeah, when did that, but that didn't come back to? Well, July at least you were doing full shows, man. So we had we had most of March, all of April, May, at least three to four months of no sports. No sports. It was something to do though. It was fun. I mean, as much as as hard as it was, it was fun. I mean, you're also dealing with like, going to the grocery store with like multiple masks on my, my glasses fogging up, washing grow. I mean, it was, yeah. I remember the groceries would be like we would order from a store. We'd be outside. Italy and my son Sherry would wipe the scrub them down. Yeah, see what the same thing. Scrub them. She'd, I get back to the grocery store. She'd make me take all my clothes off of the garage and then go right in the shower as if you were. Yes, right? Radioactive. Crazy. All right. So you wanted to hear the, the boon sound with Will and then I want to play one more judge for you. So let's get to that. Here's Aaron Judge on taking so long to get back with the Yankees. I want to come back a couple of months ago, but I'm not a trainer. I'm not doing that. So I got to check whatever boxes they got. So a box that they wanted me to check was live hitting. So I said perfect.
We'll do that on the off day. So I can play. That's interesting. This is very un-Aaron Judge like these sound bites. Like kind of some animosity. Yeah, but it's almost like Yankees organization. But it's almost like he feels like he's been being criticized for not, for not being back. Why who? That's that's where I'm having a hard time figuring out. Who has anyone said, oh, I think we're in judges milking this thing. Happy that he's looking at it. Yeah, well, because Stan is, I mean, it's just, it's, he's come back from a calf. Oh, he had a setback. No, no, it's not a setback. It's a new injury. Yeah, it was. Yeah, no, he fell down. It's a come on man. And when you look the way that he looks, it's like how, like you look like a, a Greek god. How can you be heard all the time? It doesn't really make all that much sense. No, I mean, he's got a broken bone. I get to wait for that thing to heal. Right. I mean, there was a real thought when the injury came down that, and a lot of people said, this is going to be thoracic out of it. Because it's the doctor that they're using. Right. So like, like, I don't think you can compare this. And I'm surprised that he sounds so
annoyed slash argumentative about the situation. Yeah, I don't feel like that at all. No, I have an analyzing and covering and discussing it. Listen, that would, and you're talking to someone that's dealt with a ton of injuries. Like, I could understand me reacting like that. Like, as someone that dealt with injuries and people, like the conversation surrounding me, like, he's heard all the time. And it's like, no, no, list. I could, I wanted to come back. They didn't let me come back. It's not like, hey, I'm enjoying being hurt. It's just they won't let me, but that was never the conversation surrounding me. I never heard it one time. I said, go. Hey, let's make sure when he's back, he can play right field. Right. And he's not going to re-injure himself. Because if he re-injures himself, and we lose him for the season, there goes your world. I actually think there's a lot of conversation on this station about why not hold him out as long as you can? Yeah, you're a ninja. And then just go team. Get him to do some almost like extended spring training. And then you go into the post season. It was more like, okay, the can, can we get him back in enough time to give him a proper run away? So he can be back in health that he can be himself. Absolutely. Here's the sound, but you want it to hear. Aaron Boone is there still concern with easing judge back into the mix here.
I mean, yeah, but confident it'll be good to go. You know, he's not real pleased with me for taking. I don't understand this had to have been discussed before the game. I, RJ, are we wrong? I mean, does that make sense to you that he didn't know he was being had to? He had to be taken out before the game started. There's no way he didn't know. I think he absolutely knew. And I think with the trainer comment, I said today, if I said, I actually wonder if he's not mad at the fans. He's not so much upset at people thinking that he was milking it. But more so, hey, if I were playing, we'd have one of this division. We'd have an easier path to winning a world series. So you believe that he wishes he was back two months ago? And if the Yankees that held him out, I mean, two months ago, but that's what he said, though. Yeah, he did say that. All right, listen, listen to this, somebody again, why why did take you so long to get back? I want to come back a couple months ago. I'm not a trainer. I'm not doing that. I want to go back a couple months ago. Right? That's what he said. I don't know. I think he does. I think he believes, and he's right, that if he had played, it's not a four game deficit.
Maybe it's two and now it's manageable. Four feels like it's gone. Right, but let's not pretend like you at the time he was sat down. That he was playing great baseball first place. No, it was hurt. He was hitting 180 or something. And by the way, I don't agree with you. Our Tampa is going to win this division. This is a big week for the Yankees. Yeah, it's possible. Tampa's not going to sweep Atlanta. They're not. All right, the Yankees have a real soft landing spot. This series Colorado's horrendous. The match they should be able to add a three. The twins like there's no reason the Yankees can't be two games behind when they take on Tampa Bay. Right. But that just takes one to make it. I mean, talking tiebreaker to. Yeah, I'm paper. But like this is this is the big Yankee story all season about winning games that they they should win. Not always carried not carry always carried over it. Then you then you've got the race series. I don't know. I don't know. So no, no, I don't expect them to. But our days like they're not good. I don't I wouldn't sit here and say no. No, I think it's a different real chance. Like if you resign yourself to the fact that you're not. And then if they do, then you're obviously happy about it. I get your point. I mean, the rays you self worked up the rays going into
yesterday had the toughest remaining opponent win percentage for playoff contenders in the A L. Their opponents had a win percentage of 531. Where's the way? Go ahead. I'm going to look up the Phillies situation. The Yankees were facing teams with a 493 winning percentage. So yeah, but let's also I mean, let's also not pretend like the rays haven't been really good. Consistently one of the better teams in in the American league. Yeah, yeah. I mean, so like you're staying the same thing. Like the teams that have to play the race is like we still have to play the race. No, absolutely. But you figured the braves are going to win at least one to get. Not going to sweep them in. Oh, who knows. Yeah, I don't know. I wouldn't praise me would. I mean, so Philly that last week in the coach sat. It was a two one game until Ramos is the three run on run. I mean, it's until the eighth inning. Did you ever have real fear that the egg? No, but it's right. But when you're playing close games like this, and it feels like Colorado is going to find ways to help you win. Yeah, still. I mean, you're going up against the Met scene to play in good baseball. What the record fool you? Well, they're playing good. Plus or what the Met's, I mean, what this is going to mean for the Met's and what they can do. So Atlanta has 60 losses.
Philly has 64. So I don't know. They're not going to catch them to win that division. I think it probably matters. Home field in that first series. Do you think the teams care about that? In that wild card series? Yeah. Yeah. So Philly has 64 losses. Like I said, Chicago has 65. Yeah. So they're right there. Yeah, it's going to be. It will mean something for the Philly's. It would mean something for the Philly's. That's good for the Yankees. Yes. Right. It's Philly's race. That list series of the Yankees. Yeah, it's Yankees' Orioles. Orioles. Which in the Orioles will be absolutely done because they stink. So I think he's only Orioles. Yeah, but that doesn't again. I mean, I know they lost games that he couldn't lose, but that sounds right. But I think the Yankees still have more than a puncher's chance to win the division. Yeah. I don't disagree with you, but I just, I mean, the time is. It's ticking. Ticking. It's ticking. You're just saying all these games that you win in the race. When it's just another one that's, I mean, that's what the race are doing. Right. If they care about it, they win. They win. We're good. Yes. If they tread water, they win. Joe and Ocean Gate. Joe, good morning, my friend. You're on ESPN, New York. Oh, good morning, guys.
Try to get on yesterday. But I just wanted to welcome you guys back. It's glad to have the four years back together again. And RJ, good luck tonight in the game. He doesn't play tonight. He's good to have Joe. This team plays tomorrow. He knows he knows. He knows he knows. Don't be a jerk. Well, it's not going to happen to Joe. It's why people don't like what do you mean? Go ahead, Joe. And the joke about that actually is that my, uh, my, my, my wife's cousin, the green beret, uh, the, the huge shine fan I was telling you about a month ago or so. He, they were stationed in Korea for two years. And I remember talking to them and they would, so like, your whole life would change because football Sundays are now football Mondays in Korea. So we would be watching Sundays and maybe in the next morning going into Monday for school and stuff. So, um, that, yeah, like with totally, uh, yeah. What if it's a football Monday? What do you work? There's no, where you can't work. Yeah, you have no choice. Well, they probably have a work week, which is, which is like a, a Tuesday to Saturday. And then Sunday Mondays, I wonder if you could, I wonder if you could say, hey, listen, I like to work on Sunday. Yeah. Yeah. Saturday long works.
Yeah. You're in the military. At least for half the year here. Yeah, and then weddings, right? You could actually have weddings on Sundays. Yeah. I mean, absolutely. That's a, that's a big advantage. Not one Sunday wedding. No Monday wedding. No Monday weddings. Cause I'd like to get it for good time. I don't want to have to have a good time on Sunday and then wake up on Monday for work or for football. If a good time Sunday and then Mondays football day, that's nice. I yes. They have a good point. That's a nice point. All right, what else you got, Joe? Now, I just just, good to see Judged back and the lineup. This is kind of like a spring training thing for him, right? I guess, and I get him ready. And he definitely did sound pissed off. We said it like he how he you know, but we had buster on buster new I did buster. No. Yeah, because it wasn't new and the message wasn't relayed to the call to judge he had to know there's no way he couldn't know now that was a I mean that that is a like a textbook example of like just like the mentality of an athlete and how crazy athletes are but he's not wondering like that. Well I know
but no one is ever questioned it. This is not standing. I get it. It's like this is the guy want to play or not. Of course Aaron judge wants to play. We just want to make sure that when you're back, you don't re-engine yourself because how important you are the version of you that we need. You don't think that Brian Cashman and Aaron Boone and the entire training staff don't want Aaron judge back as soon as possible. Is it gonna be a reason why they kept you off for next two months? I did the idea though that like that that conversation didn't have I have to imagine it happened. Have had with doctors like hey listen Aaron, we know you want to come back, but guess what happens if you come back and you're not healthy and you hurt this thing right. It's not healed properly. There's no way that Yankees held him out just to hold him out. No, there's no chance. There's no way. He's the biggest draw on the team. He's a great player. Yeah, he's the best patient with the office work like with him and what it looks like without him. Right. I mean that doesn't make any sense why you would hold him out unless you were legitimately fearful that he could do more damage and there was a problem and then he'd be out for good. And what he's got postseason now maybe they have that same concern, but there's no more time to let go by. Right. You can't like let's wait
until right. I mean now you have no choice. Now you have no choice. This is good as going to be right now. And if you're getting it back, this is a time that you have to get me and just kind of scary in itself that we're sitting here three months in and it's like hey, this is no problem. It's all healed up. We're good to go. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know what you're gonna. I like posture said he has no idea. I don't think any I don't know the judge knows what it's going to be like. I mean, I guess if you wanted to and this isn't the right thing to do, but if you wanted to start playing like the let's connect the dots thing. Yeah. And the doctor that you're consulting is a thrascal doctor that that it was on that certain that that area could lead to 100 percent that it's in the area of thoracic outlet and then you know typical athletes like what happened to me. I'll be fine until until you're for God knows how long. That's like when Matt that was going to pitch through Harvey. Yeah, but he was going to pitch for the UCL. He wasn't going to get it done. Is it got any defects? What do you mean? I just pitch through it. I'm like, okay, I'll it. No, he's going to pitch through the UCL. He wasn't going to get taught me job at UCL. It's like, I'll be fine. Okay. All right. Well, sometimes athletes are the biggest work. Crazy. I mean, it's ridiculous.
Idiots. You should have seen this. I legitimately talk myself like I talk to coach and to let me like just sit on the bench. All right, blew my knee out. It was this big. I'm like, I'm good. I'll be fine. You sure? Yeah. Be good. Couldn't even bend it. But why would you do that? I don't know because you just needed because he just wanted to be with the team. New York soccer fans, the Hudson River Derby is back Friday, September the 18th. NYCFC takes on the Red Bulls. Oh, that's a that's a harvester real. That's a rivalry. That's a Harvey excitement time. I was going to have never been to soccer game, but that's not sure I have. Yeah. But so I went to a game which is one of the coolest experiences ever in a bear in the game. But Byron. Byron. Yeah. Sick.
I was at a not nearly as exotic as yours or overseas. MetLife Stadium, USA against Mexico. Oh, that was that's right. They were throwing hot peppers to Mexican fans. It's better than the alternative. You see another thing thrown onto courts and fields. You really have hot peppers. Yeah, but you got to avoid that. You don't get hit with a hot pepper. Oh, no, I burn. Maybe take one of those. One of those in the eye. I forgot it. You want to tell me about a little land. Of course. Yeah. Of course. Yeah. How's your back today? The awful. Is it? Is it worse? Yeah. We had to do a they had this ceremony yesterday at school where the seniors give a pin like it's almost like a passing the torch in the first graders. So Rock was the first grader. So this whole pin ceremony seniors seem like to the freshmen. You don't give to the first grade. Oh, that's nice. Yeah. So I give I was standing. I almost had to go down. I must have stood on the ground. I was like halfway down. So before you get into your reading, I'm sorry, um, pervy tips at you with this non, you know, sports conversation. For me
when the back is bad, it's the standing. It's not even the walking. It's the standing still. That's the worst. Yeah. That's that's the worst. All right. Go ahead with your read. All right.
