For the big city Don Han and Roosevelt, if you just joining us, there are multiple reports that Jackson Dart may need season ending surgery. It's not official yet, but it does sound like it's a lot more serious than we first thought.

1:00Part of that is because Joe Shane said he's going to be okay, and that was before he got an MRI, but apparently the MRI revealed that there might be a little bit more damage more than we initially thought when the injury had taken place last night in LA. So we're going to have to wait and see on that, but it doesn't sound good. And since I'm the giant fan in the room, I don't look at this injury as, oh, now we're not going to win a championship. I was apprehensive about this team making the playoffs to begin with. I didn't think that they had the horses to win the 10 games I think they're going to need. Now, I was hopeful, and obviously that hope is going to be dashed pretty significantly if darts out, but it's not like we're expected to win the Super Bowl. That's off the table. Okay. But what makes it disappointing for me is now 27 becomes 26. What I mean by that is is that we were hoping that Jackson Dart was going to be playing some meaningful games, learning, getting better, gaining experience. And now if he doesn't play

2:06another game, guys, what was supposed to happen this year now happens next year. Now everything is delayed a season, right? Alan Allen is the one who actively all summer said this whole season is about the quarterback. And now he lose that entire season. So hopefully back. Hopefully Harbaugh shows you. Harbaugh isn't a show you what he expects to. He will he will steady the ship of something that can otherwise get away from them. But beyond that, you will not know throughout this year. And you'll be a year closer to having to decide on Jackson Dart without seeing the 17 game body work. It's a great point about having to make a decision, right? Because obviously you're now in year three on his contract. But in the meantime, shore up other areas, which as I mentioned earlier, quarterback is a major issue for this team, major issue. You still have to develop Arville Reese. You still have to like all those guys up front. You

3:07got to figure out what Tibito is going to be if he's going to be a trade ship for something. Then that's you got to make that decision. So there's still a lot going on there. And by the way, what about Malik neighbors? Is he now in four? Right? This year is his year three. This is three for him. That's right. He was in the same draft class. You know, you want to label somebody injury prone. Right? Like you got to make this. There's a lot going on other than the quarterback, but we focus so much on the quarter thing with neighbors is, you know, we completely didn't even bring up the shoulder because he came back into the game. Yeah, but it separated shoulder separated shoulder. You know, and it just separated. I think it was just located. Dislocated. I'm sorry. He popped it out. Yeah, that's dislocated. It's separated and dislocated. It's semantics. Is it? No, I don't think so because it's separated separated. I had my shoulder separated. It's out and it doesn't go back in. It's not that. It's a different thing altogether. The separation is

4:11the do attendance. The separation is a thing up here. Like I have this little bump now that forever exists above my shoulder because it was separated. Whereas the dislocation is it actually comes out of the socket and they can just jam it back in. Sure. That's great. No, he had neither of them are great. I have to raise my arms up to catch a pass. The good news is as long as we just make sure these guys don't play in the preseason, they'll be healthy for the year. You know what I mean? It's so let's just make sure it's a his a thing, Don. I'm because because a hockey is doing this. And I've seen this because I think Brindamore said this.

5:12Preseason is useless. We don't need it. Players don't want it. It doesn't help us determine the our team. And veterans don't need it to get into shape. They were guys are different now. But isn't there also still something about game speed and game situation that gets you ready for a season? Well, Brindamore is saying is the way it is presently constituted. It's a waste of time. Why is that because veterans are only allowed to play in two of the four preseason games. Well, that's what the 84 game that's the same thing in football. You're playing three preseason games. They used to play six when we were kids, right? Yes. They used to practice two days. They used to practice with pads. Now it's basically just a summer camp. And then they go into the season and wonder why these guys get injured in September. But what now what happened? And I was probably get, you know, can't see or somebody although they played so long ago. I don't even know if if it's more current. It's like what happened that all of a sudden playing in the wasn't because there was the specter of getting injured in the preseason. And so we don't want to risk an injury in a game

6:18that means nothing. It's the same. What happens? I mean negotiations because obviously these owners have the players under their thumb. They're not going to give them more money. They don't want to give them more guaranteed money. So what they do is okay, then you know, we'll do well, less than training camp for you. And then the less preseason games are in conjunction with more regular season games because obviously you can't have the season last longer. So well, and when they add an 18th game guys, I'm sure they'll go to two preseason games. And so the player say, well, we don't want to practice some pads. We don't want to have two a days. Okay, we don't have to worry about it. So and any same thing in the NHL, you want two extra regular season games. Okay, so your veterans only play in two preseason games. And and and camp opens on Thursday and the regular season happens two weeks from now. It's on the player now to stay conditioned because back in the day, you come to camp, you were 20 pounds overweight because you don't drink and beer and sell insurance. And now you got to get ready. Right. So these guys should be physically ready. But I just wonder in a game like football and hockey, physical sports, you can't simulate during the off season,

7:23somebody checking you into the glass, right? Somebody tackling you from behind. Right. Nobody's hitting you when you're when you're skating to get ready for the season and they start usually late July because you know, they do take time off. You got to give the hips and ankles. You got to give all that stuff. Of course, but they start going like late July where they start skating again. And then in August, they they pick it up with like their own little scrimmages. But nobody's hitting anybody because you know, you know, you're not doing that. So the only time you start hitting is when practice begins and even in practice, it's how much how much you really run people. And so I wonder what is going on in the NFL and maybe what Peter was saying at the top of the show needs to be reconsidered first two weeks and you know, guys are dropping like flies in this league is it just, you know, is this a bad sign or a bad trend? You can't have the first time you get hit that's the thing. In the regular season. That's the thing. It's not like the injuries won't happen. My point is just that you're sacrificing better play in the name of health. Yeah, it's not working.

8:29Right. The health isn't you're delaying the inevitable. Like I mean, five quarterbacks have gone down five starting quarterbacks have gone down in the first two weeks. So let's just not and that's just quarterbacks. Let's just not pretend like this is we're really protecting their bodies in a real way or maybe in the sport. There just is no protective people's bodies. No, and then that too. Yeah, and Dan O brought it up there in the broadcast yesterday because there's injury situations in hockey too is and it's the same in football and all these sports the game is so much faster than it used to be and the level of speed in which they're playing these games. I think you're more susceptible to injury. There's not guys lumbering down the field anymore. They can all fly and these defensive, these defensive ends there. They're almost when you look at them, like you look, he's the best defender in the last 25 years, right? Dom, a Dom. And, and, but he doesn't look like the old time defa. He doesn't. He's not built like Bruce Smith. He looks leaner and more cut. And he's quicker. And these guys are just so

9:32fast and with that with the level of speed that you see in the game. And a guy like Dan, he goes down, I watch the ice in the game is so much faster than it was 20 years ago. Same of football and I think these guys are more susceptible to injury because they're flying. That's just super fast. And it just, and you just got to get adjusted to it. Let's go to Peteries and little falls. You're on Don on a Roosevelt. Yeah, hey guys. Thanks for taking the call. Reason of calling a giant man since back in the days of Torquington and Tucker Frederick. There you go. Coming out of the last last night's game, obviously I'm devastated about dark. But a big concern is that giant secondary. They got dice up by a number two wide out. How real is this straight reporter for pit with Pittsburgh? And is there anybody else out there that can offer up some help? Well, Porter, Porter is definitely gettable. But it's going to cost. And it's probably going to cost to be. And it might like does it cost you a day to draft pick?

10:38Does it I can't give up a one you're taking on 20 million. He wants 20 million. So like you have 12 in caps. You got to give up a player. Also, it doesn't look like he's in your in your plans. But what kind of draft capital you will in a give up? Because Porter, Porter gives you instant. You're better. You get a guy like that. But if you but if you have a lack of sharness now to put it, you know, mildly, okay, your quarterback position. If you're now you have fears about what this whole year looks like, I don't know that you can make any drastic moves in this. I disagree. See, this is what we disagree. And I know the point you're making and it makes sense on the surface. But and Don, you be you be the arbiter here. I think the opposite. This is the year you do all that stuff because you want to you want to keep building your team like you don't just you can't just have a gap here now. Oh, well, we don't have a quarterback. So let's just shut it down close up the tents. I think you still have to keep building out your roster and say, say to your team,

11:39hey, we can compete because our defense is good. We're going to compete. We need to win around here and get a winning flavor and show the rest of the roster that we'll we're still about building this team up to be a contender one day. If Joey Porter's 34 years old, you say I'm probably not you'd be getting him giving him a contract to be a starting corner for you the next five six years. It's a ton of money, but but but here's the thing. It's a value position. They suffered yesterday because banks was her. Yep. Banks is not that good. I know. So the fact is out. You know, go right. Yeah. So it's a hood got exposed. But he's in there because banks is hurt. But but the thing is is that you're trying to build a championship caliber team. And right now, I think this team on the offensive side, they look pretty good against Dallas, right? And then they look pretty good against the on the defensive side of the ball. But they got shredded yesterday. Now if you want to say it's because of the injuries to the secondary. If you want to say that they were shell shocked

12:41what happened in early in the game to dark. The fact is they're not getting to the quarterback. So if I got to trade, but oh fine. All right. He stuck into the quarterback anyway. All right. I have him. I have burns. I have Carter. Like, you know, burns that's that's a tough give up. But if I got to give up a draft pick, no, no, I'm saying that I've got them already. Oh, no, absolutely. Yeah. I'm extra piece. No, if I if I got to give up, if I get to give a high draft pick and I'm and I've got them money and I can lock down a 26 year old pro ball corner to try to to try to strengthen and a clear weakness on my defense. It's a clear weakness. And while these guys are trying to figure out how to get to the quarterback, it's going to get exposed. Like forget about, you know, Devonte Adams being a hundred years old and the backup and the third string wide receivers to lit them up. A Hall of Fame quarterback lit them up. All right. So really didn't matter who you're throwing the ball to Matthew Stafford who played awful in Australia had a chip on his shoulder. He was light in that second area. Well, you know what? He's

13:41not the only great quarterback. They're going to have to face. No, yeah. You know, they're going to have to face. Stack again. They're going to have to face. Hurts a couple of times. I mean, if they go to the playoffs at every any time, there's going to be a great quarterback. They're going to have to try to get to and to stop. And Don, when when next year comes around, if Dartmouth is this year, he comes back next year, you want to have a more complete roster so that, okay, we still are advancing the cause. Like, like, I just, I don't think you just say, oh, well, we're not going to, we're not going to keep building this roster. I know you don't want to pause your whole organization. Yeah. But you do have to have there isn't have to be some level of decision that gets made for this team about about in terms of what your commitment is going to be. Well, here's your other option. You're not going to like this trading for Mac Jones. No, I don't like that. Yeah. That does nothing. That does nothing for me. Well, it gives you a quarterback that a lot of teams are going to be looking at as a free agent in the off season. And if Dart is somebody now, you're, you're really

14:44concerned about that your insurance. God, you there won't be another just regular for lack of a better word veteran secondary quarterback. You could lean into next year. Like, Mac, I just don't I'm not a believer. Yeah. Well, Mac Jones is going to be a starter for somebody next year. It's clear. But you want to get ahead of that. You'd have to trade for them now if the if the Niners even want to trade for trade trade him. But it's like, these are the different things you have to think about. So, but it's a good question about Porter. And that is definitely one. I still want to see what the Giants do because, okay, we just got a weakness now at a key position on offense. Let's take a weakness on defense and strengthen it. So at least our that side of the ball can be something we can rely on game in a game. Are we we're really comfortable saying Mac Jones is starting somewhere next year. I do believe it. Yeah. There's a lot of teams that are looking for look, there's not enough starting quarterbacks in his league. I really don't. But I mean,

15:46yes, and you have teams that are going to try to get a high draft pick. But there's going to be teams that don't get the high draft pick and still need a quarterback. His best his best year was five years ago. I know he sees, but but look, first of all, he went to San Francisco, which is a lot like going to Minnesota. That's that's where that's where a quarterback goes to get right. A lot of quarterbacks go there to get right. Sam was there, wasn't he? Yep. Yeah, briefly. You got right. And he was pretty good there, you know, he was he was pretty good there. Yeah. And and Mac is has had to play because remember, pretty good. I just I just I just played well. I don't know. You know, you know, you're ever just certain guys you've watched play in the game. You're just like, yeah, I am a man. I'm a Mac Jones. You could have been a man. Sam Darnel too. I well, I I happen to not be, but you're right. I'm sure many people, but you know, when we were like, hey, just a field to shot it. Yeah, by the way, and I believe he just did. I did. Right. And and oh, well, we can any chance of will will levis being a giant. That's one is he's a jet now. Oh, that's right. Of course, they told they they they they batted the bunny a little bit in the

16:48preseason. And now they've come to the contender. I'll tell you the scariest thing. We are staring right down the bear of football just being dead by late October. Just staring it right down the bear. Oh, so you mean this is just another season in New York? Yep. I just agree. No, no, you know, you know, you can disagree that it's going to happen. I'm done. But you know, you guys can both disagree or say you hope it's not going to happen. You can't tell me we're not staring right at it. It's looking right back. Oh, yeah, I'm coming for you. I can't answer for the jets because of the jets end up losing games. Then it's just count down to Glenn getting banged and and there really isn't anything growing because you know, Gino Smith's not the future. By the way, that's the nickname for my weekends with my friend Glenn. Yeah, he likes to. He likes to part. Okay. But if the giants are bad because the offense isn't working, but you'll know the reason why because they suffered an injury, but you still know you've got the coach and what is that? That doesn't

17:51mean it's still not absolute dread in the back of October. But you're, but you still feel like there's a play. Oh, let's say the time you feel like you're saying the whole. So you're saying the whole roster is so pathetic. No, that the starting quarterback was the linchpin. It's almost like Aaron judges out of the line up the Yankee. So wait a minute. How many how many wins would you say was a reasonable prediction for the giants with a healthy Jackson. We were we were hoping. Didn't we look at seven or eight? I think we were hoping our wildest best hope was nine. All right. Like a nine and eight. So let's say they're them battling in December, but let's say they finished six and a level and clearly they finished six and 11 because they're just not getting any quarterback play. They just can't find somebody replace Jackson. Our Winston doesn't get it done. They bounce around different guys. They try and they just don't get any great quarterback. Yeah, but the defense grows. They're in every game. Sure. It's well coached. They learned to sack the quarterback. But you could just say, Hey, listen, if we had Jackson, darn, we would have won nine games. Don't be under the plan. Don't disagree. Now, but it's still that doesn't that doesn't necessarily make it a watchable November and December. For what we were hoping for. That's all I'm so what we've gotten here was

18:56like our wins the coach getting fired. Is it ever going to get better? I can't get a chance better than that. It's better than that. And listen, if it ends up being a bad season, jet fans can salivate over who they're going to draft and it's a good quarterback draft. So there's something there. But from a giant's perspective, if it's if it looks bad because of the quarterback, now if it looks bad because nobody knows what they're doing, it's different story. But I still think there's something to look forward to like when Jackson dark comes back, man, look, look at what they got. And there can be at least a better feel for it. Yeah, that's sort of what you're you're hoping for and look, whatever a knee injury is these days is not a death sentence. It's not the Achilles even. It's not you know, he'll be he'll be throwing a football in January. Like he'll be he'll be running in months. So it's it's it's not the you know, the devastation part of it is like he'll be ready to play next year. It just sucks that the reps aren't going to be there. I know you another name that Gary Myers threw out here. Okay. If you think that the Mac Jones made

19:56you throw up. So I'll just quote Gary. Gary knows his stuff. That's why I found this interesting. So he said if Jackson dark is done for the year, he says he thinks the Giants should trade for trade for JJ McCarthy. Here's why Joe Shane did consider him with the pick that he had in 24. And keep this in mind. Who did McCarthy help win a national championship in 2023 at Michigan? Oh, is that is that is that a Jim Harbock? That would be Jim. Well, what am I giving? If I'm not giving up a lot. See, I always hate these scenarios. How about trading for what am I giving up? Fifth six. I mean, they don't know why not. Why not? Yeah, yeah, sure. If that's the case, not yourself. Given a rate of getting up a two, we're going to fight. We're going to actually get to get into a fist fight being Gary. Yeah, if that is you know, we're talking to five or six. Sure. Why not throw something that sounds good. By the way, you know, you know what you guys just did though for the last five minutes. And I have to tell you my my brain started processing that as a remote possibility when after getting down 17 three Jane Daniels just started going into full on 2024. You can't stop this kid mode. The touch on the ball perfect. The avoiding the the best thing he showed guys ironically was just avoiding big hits constantly.

27:18A real awareness that he's shown this season to get rid of the ball when he needs to. And frankly guys it's one of those I started having that feeling of it's an odd feeling. But you know that feeling when you're like oh I'm third down rather than thinking I'm going to fail. I just assume my quarterback can get this. That's kind of where things were going. I had no idea how that feels. No you actually don't have any idea how that feels. No idea. And I don't know it very well but I always think it's a miracle. I know. And they convert on third down. And so did I up until 2024 and then I was like oh maybe there's this guy who can actually do this and it was all happened and go we kept the ball out of Dallas's hand the whole second quarter. And so I go hey if you keep them off the field that's what the Giants did right that's other Giants being Dallas in the first game. They only had two possessions in the second half. So I said hey we kept the ball in our hands the whole second quarter and it goes from 17 three to 17 10 and again a long drive to end the quarter. And were you guys watching this game? No Don you were still coming back from you were back you were watching? I was I was definitely watching.

28:18Okay you were done with Devils duties and you were able to watch. So they they have the ball and late in the second quarter and move the ball down the field. And to me guys what I'm watching is time is running out in the quarter and I've seen this I've been watching for football done. Now I can say as you famously once did I've been watching football for 40 years 40 maybe 42. Might be a drop there might be a drop in there somewhere. I think 42 years that going back to the 85 Super Bowl. That's my first memory the Bears Patriots my first memory is documentation. And there's a big wall show in the Super Bowl show a big Willie Galt guy as a five year old who wasn't and who was it. So in that time guys I I've learned you know I know much to the chagrin of my haters on the internet I know football pretty well and know what's happening here. We're going to do the best we can to punch it in and then when you run out of time guys what do you do? You kick the field goal. Yeah you take the points and guess what? Not only do we completely stop the Cowboys momentum we're getting the ball the second half.

29:20Cut it to 17 13 go get the kickoff maybe run a long drive to start the third quarter you have completely turned the game on its head. But Dan Quinn says no with two seconds left I'm not only going to run another play for Jayden Daniels lineup up under center. What we've been having all the succession shotgun why even do that. That'll fool them that's lineup up on the center they'll never get this. No no. So and actually if you go back and watch the only other bad play that had really happened prior to that. I don't know if you guys remember this was him under center he mishandled a pitch to crosskey merit. So that was the only other bad play they'd really had offensively particularly was under center. They go to under center we know what happens after that guard steps on his foot he falls on his left arm which is there's clearly something wrong with and there are decisions that need to be made about whether they're surgery or not and the rest is history.

30:22This is what I need to talk about.
