3:06three against the Rocky start and tomorrow. And then low key this met series. It's not as easy as we would have thought it was three weeks ago. Because the met all of a sudden who would have known remove the stakes, remove the pressure of having to win that 300 million dollar payroll. All of a sudden is playing their best baseball this year. And so it's a tougher series. But one the Yankees should still be able to take care of business in the problem is your four games back. And any day that does not involve you gaining a game is a bad one. Because you're running out of time. You're running out of time. So I don't think that's going to happen. But it is officially air in judge watch. And I'm hyped for that as many Yankee fans are. He's going to take live batting practice today at the stadium. And at some point this week he will be activated. Other baseball stuff. So I was perusing my Twitter timeline yesterday laying on a couch. And I come across this

4:13tweet from Ed Werder where he says in the tweet, and he's quote tweeting something I did not see what he quote tweeted. But he said that's audacious. Wouldn't be shocked if the Phillies hit him tomorrow. And I'm thinking to myself, wait, what a minute. What happened? Why? What did the the brain? So the braves are playing the Phillies. I'm like, what did the braves do? That is like so nefarious that we are now expecting or you know, wouldn't be shocked if there's something like retaliation like that something flagrantly disrespect will happen. And here's what happened. Roddo the Cunier Jr. hits a home run to tie the game in so the game is in Philadelphia. They're down three runs. A Cunier Jr. sends one out the ballpark. They tie the game. And he decides to after celebrating parading around the bases, go out for a curtain call. And I'm like, really? Like this is what we're

5:17talking about. That's harmless. Anything wrong with that? I don't know Ed Werder. And I'm not sure what his intent was. You know, he obviously is a decorated NFL reporter. But I just think it is super lame guys and so so ridiculous that we have just accepted as part of baseball culture. Either condoning or outright calling for guys to take and this is what it is. Take hard objects and throw it as hard as they can at an opposing player just because we got our feelings hurt. Simply for them having fun. I don't think athletes showing emotion, expressing joy

6:20and doing a little bit of dare I say trolling is somehow punishable by, hey, here's a 100 mile per hour fastball thrown at your back or your head. I don't think those two things equate. And it's always if we being honest. This is not an ages thing, but this is honesty. It's honesty time. Like then Dave calls it the den of honesty. I know we're past 10. So maybe we are exiting the den of honesty. But it's always old people complaining about it. That's just keeping a buck man. If you hit a home run, here's what's expected of you. Place your back down gently. Run across the bases with a pace that isn't or can't be perceived as disrespectful. Don't look at the ball travel because we're going to say you're admiring the home run. Or don't you have fun. You're 23 years

7:22don't look at anyone because that can be deemed disrespectful as well. Or torment. And by the way, when you touch home plate, do it quickly. No extra curricular activity or movement. I don't hear from you. Pallitely head back to the dugout. And let's just add this. Once you get back there, you know what you really should do? Go back under the tunnel and watch some film until your team heads back to the field. Because again, we don't want to offend anybody. That's not what we want to do. Yeah, we're playing a kids game. Yeah, we should be allowed to be enthusiastic about this craft that we have spent our entire lives honing and working toward. Yeah, we should be able to do a little celebrating upon individual and team accomplishments.

8:26But the unwritten rule is not not allowed to do that. It's so ridiculous. It is patently insane. Which brings us to the umpire issue we had this weekend. And I'm going to work my way there. But before we get to the umpire, I have to start by recapping something else. I was pissed off last week. When I didn't hear enough people talking about the racial component to the jazz conversation, because I'm like, yo, we are indeed serving sports fans. But our audience isn't just comprised of those who want to hear our takes on what's going on in tonight's game, who's going to win. But they also have an appetite for serious dialogue about issues that mirror what's happening in society.

9:28And the problem is there is like this lack of representation that leads you to compromise. Sometimes it's not that folks are willingly ignoring it. It's just that it doesn't come as natural or organic because it's not a lived experience. So when I listen to an alleged professional broadcaster called jazz chism, all types of names that aren't actually his name and impune his character for some ridiculous unwritten rule that includes, hey, not being able to steal bases up seven, one, it tends to hit different for me. And here are some of the things that was said about jazz by your boy, Boa Fleming. Because you know, I don't want to listen to the audio because it's going to anger me. But he felt so comfortable with this rolling off of his tone,

10:28Bush league player. He plays the game the wrong way. That's who jazz is. More, more, and should fight jazz chism. And for months, I've been on here trying to articulate this the best way that I can. That some of the jazz stuff, even from Yankee fans, have been coded. And it felt like that at times it went beyond baseball. He's got a low IQ. He's not a winning player. Oh, it's interesting. You're not a winning player. I did see him win game two of the wild card series against the Red Sox last year. I did see him hit the go ahead home run and the game the Yankees beat the blue jays and the players. That's it. But set that aside. Jazz, not a winning player. He's selfish. And I'm like, oh, we've heard this stuff before. We know where it comes from. And there are a lot of Yankee fans who are so accustomed to this like stringent code of how

11:33a player should act and how a player should report themselves that any deviation from it tends to rub some folks the wrong way. They get angry. Nah, this is not how we did it back in the 60s. And because of their allegiance, it tends to color how they perceive a player. And we know that your tolerance policy only goes as far as how you perform. And so with jazz, who has actually been playing a lot better lately, promises a 50, 50 season. And a month into the season, we're like, yeah, that ain't happening. Folks are coming for. And so to have this happen, like as angry as I was listening to Wolf Limbing, I also felt slightly vindicated because it revealed to me, I'm not bugging. People in the chat coming at me, you're making us about, I wasn't over reacting. I wasn't hallucinating.

12:38And sometimes you need people who look in sound like jazz to articulate things like this because far too often, like there's this level of sensitivity that it needs to be treated with. And we just don't get that, which brings us to the Empire Doug Annings. And by the way, the fact that we know your name is already an L. You have a major league baseball empire. We shouldn't know who you are from a hole in the wall, but here we are. Your name's trending. So the story Saturday was that he apologized. And I saw someone, and I can't remember who the gentleman was, say, oh, he deserves credit for this. I'm like, credit for what? What does he deserve credit for? Here's my question. And we're going a little bit long here. So Ray, just give me some more time. Why did he apologize? Like I still haven't figured out why he apologized. First of all, you tried to use Hunter Goodman to fight your

13:42battle. And you lied about it. So are you apologizing about lying? Are you apologizing for telling Rinsone? He had to fix his hat. No, because I don't think that overnight you feel differently about that when you felt so strongly on Saturday. You didn't change your mind. So what exactly are you apologizing for? And it leads me here. Like, why is it that in this sport, we are constantly having to deal with this unwritten rules, BS that is directly tied to how y'all want players to behave. Like, what's the problem with how jazz wears his hat? Why are you guys so angry about chains? Why did Rinsone get called out in the middle of a game on a power trip by the sunfire? Like, I just don't get it. And why is there such for some, it's hard to use social media as a barometer because there are so many damn bots. Like, you can't really tell who is who. But why is there

14:46such a fervent defense of this foolishness from folks who are like old school? Like, who do you guys think that you are? Like, fam, it's 2026. If a player wants to be swaggy, have a nice little look to him. What's the problem? I don't get it. So we're like in baseball culture, it's just accepted. This is how things, this is how things have to be. Why? And if you challenge it, we're coming after you. The umpire can just point his finger at you during a game. It's like a masculating. And I guess he's lucky he chose the quote unquote right guy to do it to because there are a bunch of players who would have been like, nah, I fixed him my hat. And then he tosses them out the game. Why? Because his hat was slanted. Does that not sound ridiculous? And so when I question why

15:48is he apologizing, I guess baseball rules that, uh, you know, he went over the line, he went over the top. So he should apologize, which tells me you don't actually feel sorry. And I get that sometimes we go a little too far, we get the apology and now we're impugning the legitimacy of the apology. But I just don't like phoniness. I don't like that type of behavior. So how about we take a listen to Ali Mormal on the situation that I'm fully this past weekend. Some words exchanged there. Quite honestly, I thought it was pretty embarrassing on his end. Um, we have a kid making his debut. And in between in that bat, he tells them that he needs to fix his hat and the kids not going to wear his hat like that on my field. So last I checked, this was course field. Um, so I took issues with it. Um, and then the pitch violation while I'm out there having a discussion, that's also steep in my opinion. So there's a lot of moving parts to that one at the end of the day. I thought they handled it poorly and I'd like an explanation at some point. Your field, my guy, your field. That's what we're doing now. It's your who the hell are you? Your field. You're not going to wear your hat like that on my field. Yo, when I talk about

17:54coded language, this is all the evidence we need. Tripping man and then cutting challenge to play at the plate because they were out of challenges. So you just had a series of blunders and embarrassed yourself. And I got to see folks talking about, oh, he deserves credit for. We don't even know what he said to the city deserves credit. I'm interested in hearing. I saw somebody quote tweet that. And that's why I'm like, what are we? No, man, you get you get no credit. A, A, you're on a power trip. B, you, you, you threw somebody under the bus for it and, and see, you didn't even have the decency to address the people that you wrong, bro. No, no, there's no integrity here. That's all right. Somebody, uh, here, stronger for you. Angel Hernandez is not around anymore, but this is a dude that don't got any business being a major league on fire. I don't need that. None whatsoever. And I've got to give him credit. Wait, did he actually apologize? He did, but there was, did he apologize to the players? Did he just put out some statement?

18:59The week statement, which, which you're giving credit for, did he actually apologize to the player that he wronged and the manager? If not, then I don't want to hear it. And by the way, shout out to the Cardinals because they came out with their hats out to, shout out to the Rockies. They did it too. Rockies did it too. We're all in unison, baby. We're all, I love it. I, I, I really love it. Like, this is some of the, like, this, these, these, this is some of the stuff that really angers me. It, it really does. It, it, it, it, it really does. And we saw it in full force with this bulls-o this past weekend. Should I just felt like I wanted to talk about it? 899 3776. Uh, and I will say this. He did, he, it looks like he did talk to the player the other day and, and addressed it. Like there's video of him on the field talk. It's him. All right. But here's my question, Ray. What is there to talk about? I was wrong. That's all you got to say. I was wrong. I'm sorry. But, but, but here's my, but again, baseball came out and condemned him for it. So is that the reason why he's apologizing or having

20:06his conversation? I'm sure that there was a talking to it. Hey, you got to, you got to apologize. So it's a, it's a phony apology. You already feel that way. So, so wait 24 hours ago, it was, you aren't wearing your hat like this on my field. And now the next day, I'm sorry, bro. Like, I was, nah, man. Well, not even that, but he doubled down after the game. And again, through a player under the bus for, for, for exactly. So, okay. Like, I'm not here for it. So, so, so if I'm, if I'm Hansel, I'm like, okay, man, like, I, I, I, I hear your apology. Don't mean I got to accept it. And it says Major League debut, too. Like, that, that's boy, who says the first time he's ever appearing in a Major League game dream come true. And he's got to deal with this nonsense. Man, bleep your apology. Justice isn't Patterson. What's up, justice? Hey, buddy. Thank you for taking my call. I'm glad that you guys are talking about this topic.

21:08Being a guy that has a son that plays baseball, being being a Latin guy of darker complexion, I have to teach my son, um, there's a certain ways that you got to wear the uniform, there's certain ways that you got to run an honor off the field. But my problem comes with an official now says that it's his field. Not only are you seeing that at the Major League level now, you also see at the youth level, right? And at the youth level, you don't have challenges when, when anyone challenges officials, sometimes you get, you know, the short end of the stick and where you don't get a call and where the strike zone gets extended. But my point to hold to listen to our thing is this empire has to be hit in the pocket. He has to be suspended. He has to get hit in the pocket. This is just not an apology because someone told you that he has to make a right. This is obviously his belief. I'm sure that there's more officials that believe this way when many were mails was playing in the 90s. They hated the way that he wore the uniform when King Griffey Jr wore his hat backwards. They hated the way that he, um, wore his hat backwards

22:10although he never wore it in the game. Now, as a Yankee fan, there's guys that don't like the style, the way that jazz, Tism play, these Latin guys, these guys from the inner city, they have a certain flavor, certain way that that culture does not want to see them don't want to see it. They don't want to, they don't want to see it and they think that they have to police it. But my last thing that I'm going to say is unless if this empire is suspended, we're going to see more issues like that. You got to hit him in his pocket. You got to suspend them and that's just final. And this is the reason why baseball is dying in the inner city because you get these officials, you get these people that think that the game has to be played the way they think the way it has to be played. They have to where they had the way that you think they have to where they had. As long as you wearing your hat with the rims forward, whether it's side to the left or the right, a king should be allowed to where they had the way that he wants to. I understand. And that's all. But I would just really like to have a conversation with this dork and say, Hey, my man, just can you explain to me why it offends you that his hat was slightly tilted to the certain direction? Like, why is that in the middle of the game something you felt the need to address and then blame it on Hunter Goodman? Why was it that serious? Can you just explain it to me? Can we have? Because listen, I, and we're getting further and further away from me, continue to still believe in this. But there is an element of, you know, discourse is healthy because when people gather and are able to explain differences and disagreements, that leads to an education, right? That leads to learning things

24:16that we might not have been privy to before. And now we operate differently. Doesn't mean I got to change your mind, but it opens up the possibility that you can view things from a different perspective. That's cool. So, so my man, Doug, Dougie, can I call him Dougie? Yo, Dougie, what's up, baby? Tell me what was your motivation behind making a spectacle of this young man in his major league debut and forget major league debut because it doesn't even match that part shouldn't even be relevant. What was your motivation behind making a spectacle of this situation? Why did it offend you? And why are you calling this your field because you're the home plate umpire that night? Yo, you are expendable. You do understand that, right? You are as expendable as anyone in that stadium. That's not your field, but that's how y'all get down. And if you, if you know, you know,

I actually roast my grandmother. Uh-oh. Well, that's trouble. You can't roast grandma. Well, here's the problem. And maybe my expectations are too high. So she texted me a couple of days ago.

26:25Um Friday, she texted me and I called a mom like, hey, my what's up? And you know, she just wanted to check in and how I was doing. And what I thought was this is like setting up for a, you know, by the way, it's Labor Day weekend. We're barbecuing. Right? So, you know, come through. I have the grill on and I asked, I said, hey, my, uh, any barbecues this weekend. And she's like, nah, no barbecue. So the reason why I want to roast her is because we had a conversation a month or two. Actually, no, this was before the summer started. I said, my, you know, like, the best way to get the family together because we all own different times and schedules is for you to have a barbecue. So July 4th comes and goes, nothing, nothing during the summer. And so, okay, maybe correct your mistake, throw something down Labor Day weekend. Nah. And so she goes the

27:27whole summer, no barbecue. And that's why no pun intended. I would have roasted her today. Even though she's my grandmother just turned 73. I love her to death. That's all. But that's that horse. Do you even have the question? She's odd that she didn't have anything going on all summer. Well, maybe grandma's getting a little tired, man. Maybe, you know, she's earned, she's earned the downtime. Nah, I bet. Unless the other possibility in her mind and now I think she would do this. I mean, I, I do recall meeting your grandma at the wedding. Oh, yeah. And so I don't think that that she would do this, but there is the possibility that she's, is she having stuff without you? Oh, yeah. That's great. She telling you that there's, there's no effect. Nah, because I would find out immediately. And she only lives 10 minutes away. She lives 10 minutes. She's right in Bushwick coming Queens. I'm right here. Nah, that'll be great. Because that has never happened to you. You had a family member.

They, anytime, I mean, we're all spread out of them now, not everybody's close, but whenever there's something, I'm always getting like, can you come to this? Can you do this? So it's, to usually, but nine, nine times out of 10, I got a bit, nah, I'm sorry. I got a game. I got a radio. I got the nicks. I got nicks hornets tonight. Yeah, man. Does the sacrifices you make? But yeah, I guess I'm just feeling like because the kids are and have been away for the weekend, we've got a little extra time, Cassie and I, we want to pop out. We want to do something. Done, done working at 1230. She was off today because, you know, school's not in session and her private sessions that he does, that she does not happen on a Labor Day. So we got some time. And grandma was like, nah, not happening today. And so I wanted to make sure that that wasn't

29:30rude. I wanted to make sure that that wasn't the case. Should I break here, Ray? Would that be proper? No, you know what, you're good to the end of the hour. You got another 10 minutes and so you're straight. You're straight. You, you did well the rest of the hour after your long after your law granted the beginning. Not that you were wrong. Not that you were wrong. I was a bit long with it. Test messages. Hey, man, you know, we do have three breaks. Yeah, I just wanted to make sure we were good because we got into a little late too. Yeah, I feel that. I want to hear. But you know what, that's the sign we're having a lot of fun. The show, the show just progresses. So I got no complaints here, man. We've been all over the place. We did the baseball thing. I do want to hit on this real quick because we were talking NFL. You know, maybe it's just me, but the buzz we feel for the season hasn't really revealed itself as far as an excitement level for the opening game. And look, I guess it's appropriate because not we weren't exactly hyped for the Super Bowl matchup.

30:36We were hyped for the Super Bowl because we're football fans. So I guess when you create a game that has like a little stakes that aren't as high, it's going to have a similar feel. But you know, football is back. And Carl and I thought put it perfectly last week when he said he said the last few weeks have been like the eighth inning of a blowout game in baseball with position players in the amount. And I thought that that was the perfect way to say it. We're just trying to get to the start of the NFL season. Honestly, I wish we could swap the games like Niners Rams first would be better, but be as it may. With that said, if I'm a Pat's fan, I have three major concerns about this game on Wednesday night. It is very possible that the Super Bowl hangover for the Seahawks gets cured not from sunglasses and Advil did the Kanye reference because he made headlines this weekend. But from what I'm sure a lot of players,

31:43personnel and fans and Seattle feel like is utter disrespect because how many shows in the last couple of weeks have actually spoken about the defending champions. How many? Here are the teams we hear more about nationally than the one that actually won the Super Bowl. We hear more about the Rams, the Cowboys, the Niners, the Bills, Ravens, Chiefs, Chargers, Broncos, Bengals, Pats who lost the Super Bowl to the Seahawks. Are you might forget anyone, Eagles, Packers, like those are the teams nationally. We hear more about the the the the Seahawks. Who's the more disrespected champion? The Seahawks are the mix. Come on, cut it out. Don't start. Don't start. You know the problem. They're both being they're both being afterthoughts in their own division. But after winning it all. We don't even care about divisions of basketball. Now if you want to say if you want to say and I guess I'm guilty of this,

32:45that the the Sixers are like kind of a hair behind them. I'm fine with that. I still think the mix by the way are the team to beat until proven otherwise. Right? Like forget like I said this already, but who you telling no, forget how we feel about the transactions that took place this summer. Yann is going to Miami. Obviously the Bron and Jalen Brown going to Philly unless all of a sudden we hear it's just yo kids goes to the to the Sixers like anything crazy happening. Once you go 16 and three and you set the all-time record for point differential and for the most part, Mitchell Roberts and Asad, you return that same team. I'm sorry you're the team to be. Like that, that to me. Those are the rules. Agreed. And so folks who are

33:45who are picking a team not named the next to to win the East, I would disagree with. But I thought you were talking about people who in puning like, oh, did they really win the title? Like it was an easy route. I thought that's what you were talking about. No, because in my case, I'm breaking the comparison that you know that there's a there's a super team, quote unquote, in their division that's getting all the hype right now in the sea. Hust cases, the Rams. You expect Philly because of all the moves they made. It's sexy. I don't mind the comp. It's a great analogy. But I would say the Seahawks. And by the way, to some degree, like I might be guilty of this. I hosted four national shows the last couple of weeks. And I think we mentioned the Seahawks once. It's so easy to forget based on the last three or four months that the Seahawks won the Super Bowl. It's easy to forget. By the way, so let's start with what's fair. And then we'll move to what's kind of unfair. The Seahawks did lose the Super Bowl MVP. They're running back. He

34:50goes to the chiefs. I think that's significant. They lost. Go ahead. In addition to that, Kobe Bryant, boy, I'm not a and then Rick Wolland. So they those are four like legitimate players on their team. And even Laurie is also hurt. And he's a very important player for them. Absolutely. So it's not I don't think it's like crazy to say, Hey, you're not or you might not as good as good as you were last year. Another thing is the Rams are getting most of the attention because on paper, they're the better team. And here's where we get to the unfair part. So it might sound harsh. And it's also scientific, but just hear me out a decade from now. When we're talking about the 2020s and the NFL, do we think the conversation goes a little something like this? Hey, we had two quarterbacks when back to back Super Bowls. Patrick Mahomes

35:54and Sam Darnold. No, that's not how many of us pictured a conversation ago. Again, it's not fair, but it is what it is. But I mean, but she didn't think Sam Darnold will win a Super Bowl, right? Correct. Who knows? But we there's still a little bit of like pumpkin watch on Sam Darnold. How? As we can't erase the judge. That's foul. I get it. I understand. I understand. Listen, man, if I'm a Seahawks fan, I'm red hot because it's like, remember, we, we not only wanted to Super Bowl, but we did so in dominating fashion. But then the other part of it is, you know, the other team of your division traded for Miles Garrett. And then here comes Aaron Donnell out of retirement. So I don't think we'd be shocked as the Seahawks don't win it again this year. So I'd be concerned about that.

36:57If I'm the Patriots, like, hey, Super Bowl hangover, no, the Seahawks are locked in. I'm also concerned about, and we talked about this earlier, right? Like, Kristen Gonzalez, like, is he going to play or isn't? That's a major distraction. And then speaking of distractions, here's the third thing. I would not at all be shocked. If on game day or tomorrow, we got another Vreibor scene in the article. I just wouldn't be shocked. You saw that too, huh? People whispered. It was a podcast. I can't remember. And I guess like we always knew it was going to happen after the Moms Garrett trade. Maybe it has something to do with Ray Santiago's guy, Dan Olofsky saying, Hey, I think if if Stafford wins another super ball, top seven quarterback of all time, which is obviously ridiculous. And I think it's a product of the sports media ecosystem has people who are really good at their job. And obviously, um, talented and know their football, but to some degree overcorrecting some of the mass staff for

40:08stuff. And it's more emotional than it is tangible. Because the only way that you would have a three time pro-bola, one time first team all pro put in the top seven of all time conversation is that you felt bad about him having all that talent wasted away in Detroit. And you've now overcorrected and extrapolated. And based on what he is in LA, to oh, this is what he should have or would have been if the Lions were not a disaster. So maybe it's the Stafford stuff. I don't know, it's something about the Rams that I just can't get jiggy with. I just can't get jiggy to this. Am I off base, Ray? Nope. No, but I think also to your point that that's a perfect example of how it's so much more the situation that a player finds himself in, especially in football,

We say this all the time, but it gets lost, man, like, it's heard quarterbacks get kind of forgotten because they hadn't put that kind of hardware on the wall, right? The team, the Dan Marino's like the perfect of the Zampus. What was the guy comes with mine? Like, Dan Marino probably the greatest quarterback whoever, whoever played, but it doesn't have the hard, but it doesn't have the hardware. And so he gets dismissed. Oh, so let me put you on the spot and ask you this question. And I'm stealing it from Bill Simmons. Who's officially on Dan Marino watch of the these three quarterbacks? Lamar, borough, and Josh, meaning all the talent in the world. Josh first, get to a Super Bowl never win, or be never gets there and never wins. Well, Joe got to one, right? And it was, and it was a, listen, that Cincinnati defense wasn't great by any, by any means, but they found their way there.

42:15So there's different degrees to this. I feel Josh is in the now or never mode. And Lamar, not quite now or never, but again, coaching changes happened with these guys. Both of them. So I think there is something to that. Then again, this is what I keep coming back to. It's easier to reload on the fly now for teams than it's ever been just the way the salary cap keeps blowing up. So in spite of the money that the quarterback makes, I don't think it's as big a deal as people make it out to be. Does that make sense? Yeah. I think there's an element of the quarterback makes too much money. You can't build your roster. But if you draft well and you develop, you can still do it while paying the quarterback a lot of money. I do think so.
