Hello, how are you? You look amazing. You look great. You look very, very cool. Y'all. We appreciate y'all hanging out with us, man. We appreciate y'all being here today. We are hanging out in studio West, but we still rock with the Xfinity, man. And you should do that, Xfinity, Loftin downtown Chicago. Oh, yeah, it's still there. And we'll be in the very soon. And we're presented by bet 365, where winning is everything. Download the bet 365 app and use that code C H, you know, 365 when you sign up. Salutations. How are y'all? Mailbag episodes going on today. Salutations. Big Dave. Will the goat. I don't think I'm an imp for a second. Of course not. I'm going to give dramatic pulses for you, sir. That's the will of the goat guy. That was part of our beef. We'll get into that, sir. All right. Follow him. He's taking we squashed it. Yeah.
Undescore is going on the Twitter now. Y'all it is breaking us. Will Gottlieb. He has made your life in my life so much easier. I underscore so hard to type. Oh, I can now send eight tweets very quickly. Directly to me directly to Will Gottlieb at Will Gottlieb, man. And a man who's producing on the one and guess what? The two's as well. That is our guy Joey C Joey C. How are you, sir? The C is for Chicago because happy Friday only two more sleeps two more two more Chicago bears football comes back. And you know what happens? Once football comes back, would swiftly follows it. Basketball, baby. It's all happening. I looked it up. Joey C. We are now since we're doing this on the night. We are 28 days away from first action of the preseason for the Chicago Bulls basketball. 28. Preseason. Preseason. Yes. Preseason, sir. On the V-way. How excited are you go? I just hadn't been thinking about preseason. I've been thinking about media day.
Oh, okay. So, I'm a professional. I mean, I'm just I'm looking forward to it. Yeah. The dog days are long. I know Peck loves them. Yeah. I'm ready for some hoops. Go once though. I need hoops. What are you looking forward to? Who are you looking forward to talking with a media day? Who like the first number one? I mean, I'm very excited to see what Caleb has to say. He always says something. Everybody be crowded. That will be very fun. Everybody be crowded around. And I'm excited to hear what modest has to say. He's another big piece. Who by the time you're watching this, we will have talked about a couple of days ago. But for us, we're talking about him next. Yes. We are excited for modest. Yeah. We are. We're very excited. We got all just a brand new faces across the board. Brice and Graham, Diagos, Blitter, Caleb Wilson, Dale and Swain. I mean, there's the Norman Powell and the Claksin. There's a lot of new names and then a lot of young players that are hopefully going to be taking steps forward. And just to see what is the vision of the team? How are they talking about themselves? Like last year, my takeaway for media day was, why are these guys not setting any expectations for themselves? Modus came out here and he was like, I want to be most improved
player. And everybody else was like, are we going to make playoffs? I don't want to commit to it. I don't want to commit to the play any other. And it's like, just have some ambition. So I'm curious to see what they're going to be targeting for themselves. And you know what? They're not expected to be a great team, but they can still shoot for that. And if they miss it, that can still be okay, especially now, as we've talked about earlier this week, with Caleb, with a foundation now, you can start to actually move forward. So that'll be really exciting. And I'm curious to hear how the players and how the executives and the coaches talk about that. Well, yeah. And then you throw modest in there with Caleb. Like those are two guys who really shoot for the moon and not even land on a cloud, but land on something because it's going to be positive whatever they land on and they're going to try to build from that. So they can land on that cloud. Ladies and gentlemen, but yeah, man, that's going to be fun to listen to those guys actually have the expectations and mean those expectations going into the season, man. So I can't wait. I'm excited. I know y'all are excited, man. So our guy will go got lead dead of mailbag articles. Ladies and gentlemen, you can go read
that at all CHG.com. Make sure you sign up to be a diehard as well. Y'all three dollars of money. Nothing Royal. Use the code geo 18 when you do that as well. But gold has so many questions. He couldn't get to all of them. So since he's a man of the people, don't be. To himself. How can I better serve the people? The shifty as yours. Let me go ahead. I think you said to himself. Go ahead and bring forth these questions that he was not able to answer from you all out there. And he said, yeah, let's do that. We'll do that together on the show. And I said, go, you're an amazing human being. There's a couple. There's a couple that overlap because I wanted your opinion on them. So we can get into some of that stuff. Okay. There were some really good ones in here. I think my favorite one came from a climber Andrew in our discord. He was asking about how the how Tiago's play style will change the bulls or and so I kind of looked into like the
comparison of both teams last year's bulls and last year's blazers in terms of the four factors in terms of their shot profile. Where were they getting? Are we going to talk about that one today? I was going to say like if you want to hear about that, you should go read the article because there's a lot of numbers and tables and stuff. It's just easier to visualize. So I would recommend going to read it. And we'll talk about a lot more of those today. But got into the synergy numbers, got into everything. So a lot of good stuff in there. But yeah, there were plenty more. I kind of shot it out last second and just went with the first couple I got. But there were so many more both in our die hard members discord, which you should sign up for and on Twitter. And so yeah, let's get into some more. All right. Let's start with this first one here. Shout out Richard Dave. Shout out to you, sir. Have a have an amazing name. What would constitute a successful 2026, 2027 bull season in your opinion? Will the go got leave? This can go a myriad of ways, honestly. I really agree with that because you look at what is the goal of this individual season. And that's
I think it's own question. And then how does that inform the trajectory of the team, which I do think is almost more important given where they are right now. But so if you're asking specifically about 2627, I think what you want to see is information come in about some of the young players on the team. So you're talking about getting data on what does Gidey look like alongside a rim rolling center and alongside, you know, a high volume high efficiency three point shooter and score in Norman Powell. And then you're looking at modest results. Can he take a step forward in his game? Can he start to be more consistent in impact winning at a higher and more consistent level? You're talking about Caleb Wilson. How good is he going to be and how much better can he get? And what are the limitations of his game? And how do you build around that? Because I do think right now for the first time in probably at least 10 or 15 years, the bulls have a player that they can build around, not just build with. And so I think the key here is understanding how you build around that guy. And it's not going to be like you have every single answer right away. But you start to learn a little bit more about him. What what kind of center does he need to play with in order to maximize who he
is? Can he be a primary ball handler? Is he better away from the ball? Does that mean you need to retain someone like, you know, a pure point guard who can really set the table or can you put a lot of that responsibility on his plate and, you know, move more into the three indeed type of players on the wing to surround him with? I think you're going to start to get some of these answers. You're not going to get all of them now. But that's, I think, what will be successful is can you provide enough information to the coaching staff into the front office that they can start to understand how to build their team? And as we talked about the other day, taking the time to understand the value of your players, how good they are so that you can make moves down the line and be a little bit more aggressive down the line. You need to gather information in order to get to that point. So this is, I think, the time to do that. And then on the court, specifically, I think you just want to see growth and improvement, especially from those core three players, modest, giddy, and Caleb. And what kind of steps can they take putting them in situations to succeed, but also challenge them and stretch out their game and see what they can do. And we talked about this the
other day as well. The best thing that this team can do is like, just be ahead of schedule and start winning. I think they're going to need to find ways to add more talent down the line. But if they win 40 or 45 games or maybe more than that and they make a playoff birth or even a play-in, that can still be really productive, not only for the core of the team, but you still put yourself in a chance to move up in the lottery because of the new lottery reform rules, which give teams that even make the playoffs as the eighth seed a chance to win the lottery. So I think there's a lot of different ways that you can be successful and it all really starts from having a foundation in place. And that's what we've been critical of the last however many years. There was no foundation and you weren't operating in a way that would help you get one. Now they've looked into one, they have that guy. Now you can start to move forward in whatever way makes sense based on how they look. Yeah, I mean, yes. I mean seriously, yes. For me, successful season is, it's not so much wins and losses that you just kind of spoke on. For me, it's more so understanding and finding out
exactly who you are. It's more about for me setting the actual culture for this scene saying, this is what we're going to establish. This is how we're going to play. This is how we're going to move. You think of, or at least for me, I think of the Bears when I say those kind of things. Now, I'm not saying that they'll experience that same kind of success under Ben Johnson's very first year at leadership as you want the bulls to experience under T. August blitter. Yeah, I think they're further behind. No, further a little bit. You know, I don't say a little bit, but you saw that culture be established and you saw, you see it really now. If you look at the Bears and what they're doing in the off season, they have a culture. You know what I mean? They know how they're supposed to play. They're thinking superbowl constantly. You know what I mean? They're preparing for those kind of things. I want to see that what culture is going to be established here in Chicago. Listening to Bryson Graham and hearing how he's felt, I have an idea of what that culture is going to be and what it should be. Listening to Yago's blitter, he has an idea of the culture as far
as the style of play and how they're going to go. Listening to Kayla Wilson, listening to Madison Zellis, those guys have an idea of the culture they want to play with and establish and grow from. And they all seem to connect and they all seem to line up with each other. So I don't expect friction. And I mention those two guys. I feel like those are your main building blocks with that. But that's what I want to see. I want to see them come out in every game. And again, this is going to be hard. It's going to be difficult. It's going to be rocky. But every game, I want to see that culture be established and said, I used to love when teams would come to Chicago and they knew that they were in for a fight. Whether Derek Rose is on the floor or not. They knew they were in for a fight. And the reason it was like that was because teams had already established the culture. So when Derek got hurt, they still played the same kind of physical way. And teams still had to, you know, get to sleep the night before they couldn't go hang out in the club. You know, they had to get to sleep because they knew they were going to be in for a fight. And the bulls took every single
game very, very seriously. So that's what I want to see be established. I want to see if they can grow from that after that's kind of established. And then I want to see what players lined up with that as far as who's still here and as far as who they're looking to bring in. I think you're 100% right, big Dave, because it's not how you start. It's going to be how you finish. And I'm so fascinated to watch the ZmbA season with these new tanking rules and like what the competition level looks like in the final 12 to 14 games. And I'm not going to pay a lot of attention to that. What's that? What's the last time you could say that? Honestly, I'm not going to pay a lot of attention to wins and losses this year, except I might pay a little bit more attention to wins and losses. The final 12 to 14 games and just see how the culmination of them all coming together plays itself out. And if everyone's healthy and if everyone's getting minutes and Caleb Wilson is doing this thing and maybe Swains earning more playing time, I would be really curious. And I think Bulls fans would be incredibly excited. If final 14 they go eight and six. Yeah. You know,
seven seven some hard fought losses or something like that. I mean, I think that's going to be something to keep an eye on. I'm more of a micro level. True. And while you're saying that the media team I'm thinking of is last year's Portland trailblazers. And who is their coach? Exactly. T. Arngos. Like that's who I'm thinking of when you're saying that Joey see because those last 14 15 games for them really mattered. And they played every single one like it really mattered. And then you just saw their way. Yeah. And they got there to that plate that play off in the first round. Shout out to you this way. For me, it kind of reminds me of honestly Derek Rose's Ricky season, where it was like you had this infrastructure in place. I don't think the Bulls are quite up to that level, but obviously adding Norm Powell and Nick Lackson kind of helps raise that floor. But when you bring in a young player like that, you just want to see what they're capable of. This is no longer a situation where it's more beneficial for the team to move towards the bottom to get lottery balls because the system has changed. But even if it hadn't, I think you could make an argument that it's better for the Bulls to try to just see what he's got because you remember
that Celtic series. And it's like one of the defining moments of Rose's career and tenure with the Bulls. And just it represented this era of hope about the team and what they could be. And obviously he took off in one MVP and all that. We don't know or I don't even yeah, we just have no idea what Caleb is going to be capable of. But I think when you have a guy like that, it benefits you to just explore as much as possible and see what they can do. And so that's why I say a successful season. I mean, it would be Caleb being awesome and them winning, you know, 42, 44 games and like making push for the playoffs and showing everybody that this is a guy that you can really build a championship caliber team round. That's true. We're going to take a break. When we come back, I got Johnny Bobani has got a Josh Gidey question for the wonder that we call Will, the go, God, ladies and gentlemen, we're going to get into it and more of your questions on this awesome mail back show. go got lead? Yeah. Joey C on the ones and the Tuesdays and gentlemen. Let's continue with the goat male bag questions that you all provided for this awesome human being over here to my left. Johnny Bobani. A love your name. He's got a question for you, go where do you get the sense this front office is with Josh Gidey part of the future trade ship for future assets. Play it out this year and see what do you think? I think everything's on the table. I think they're open to seeing what he looks like and playing himself into a part of the future type of role. I think they feel like they have a good player on a good value contract and they're not going to just give him away. But I also think this team is very much built around the guy that they drafted number four or all. And if that doesn't fit with Caleb, then I think they're going to be looking to find ways to build a team that does fit around Caleb. So I think honestly, that's like the right approach. I agree with that. I'm not going to write Gidey off and say they shouldn't build around him or
I'm not going to write him in in pen and say that they absolutely need to. The fact of the matter is we just don't know because the bulls have not been in a situation where they are actually competing at the highest level. Part of that is that that core has not been good enough of which he's been a huge part. And part of it is that last year they went the other direction and they weren't they weren't looking to try to beat that. So I think this is a big year in that way where you're going to start to get that information about a guy like Gidey. But I don't think that Bryson Graham has made up his mind about Gidey or anybody else on this roster, frankly. So it's up play out this year and see. I think and that's that was the last, you know, part of that question. I think that's exactly where it is. It's so interesting and it's there's a reason when I talk about the bulls future. I only mentioned modest and Caleb is for what you just said, go like I'm just not sure. I don't know yet. And as much as we talked about how much this season means to modest, then you means just that much to Josh Gidey for for the forest contract and for his future with the team. Because like I said, if nobody works with Caleb, then what are we doing here? It's got to go.
And also I think I'm interested to see it so much on the floor as far as how he jails with Thiago Splitter because and Bryson Graham also because it would tell me what kind of point guard they want on this season. Do they want a guy like Josh Gidey who's who's more jazz, I guess, you know what I'm saying with how he plays more abstract, more free flowing, you know, with how he does this thing or do they want more structured, you know what I'm saying with their point guard kind of more of like a trade Jones guy who will get there and who will start. You know, it's time, you know, and not right not the true improvisations that are happening all the time. Both styles work, you know, really well, but both styles don't fit every single team. There's a reason Russell Westbrook wouldn't fit on certain teams that he did on on other ones, you know what I'm saying. So yeah, that's what is going to show me especially on the floor. I'm so interested to see that and how that works, man, because Gidey is a very young selfish guy, you know, when it comes to that. But he
also got to have the basketball to be that. Can he run an offense is going to be keyed? Does it matter if he runs it like that? I look at Portland when I say these things and I'm like a Drew holiday, you know, I'm saying that their point that was running, but also Denny Avia was also in. But he's a good compliment for it. I would say like we know he can run an offense, we know he can put up. Oh, sorry. When I say I mean like half court offense. I didn't say it like my fault. No, no, but I think it's a good point, but I just wanted to even like go further on it because I think we know he's good enough to like run an offense. We just don't know if he's good enough to run an offense that can lead you to a conference finals appearance or a finals appearance or a championship. And that's not a knock on Gidey. It's just like there aren't a lot of guys that can do that. But if you're going to have, you know, the second or third most touches in the entire league, you need to be at that level. So that's I think a big year to test that out. I'm not writing them off and I'm not saying for sure that it's true. I just don't think anybody can make a declarative statement about that one way or the other when we just don't know yet. So you can have a strong opinion. I totally understand that. I don't think you can say definitively. And that's why I think that they're going to
play it out and see what happens. But I will say that, you know, a couple of weeks ago, we got some questions about Ken modest and Caleb co-exist. And I actually think that's not really a problem, especially offensively with Gidey. I think it becomes slightly more of a problem. And it's not a criticism of any of those two players. I just think the fit between the three of them is a little tough, especially on the defensive side. Because I think Gidey is best off guarding the lesser of the wings or the three and the four on the opposing team. I think modest is probably a three or four defensively. And I think Caleb is a three or four defensively. If three guys that are three or four defensively, who guards the ones and twos? And so I think for me, that's the question that I have. Again, not saying that it's impossible or that it can't work. I just haven't seen evidence that it will work. And that's what I'm looking forward to this year. But that would be a question that I have if I'm pricing Graham is like, can these three pieces work together less so can two? Because I think if you put Gidey and Caleb together, that could work very well. You could have Gidey on the threes and Caleb on the four vice versa. And then you could still have two, you know, three and
the perimeter guys that can guard once and twos and space the floor. And same with, same with modest and Caleb, I think you can survive defensively that way if you have the right perimeter defenders on the floor. Same with Gidey and modest. I think you can survive that way defensively if you have the right perimeter defenders on the floor. But especially with all three of them and with a guy like Norman Powell who is a capable defender, but defender, but he's not getting over screens. He's not, you know, guarding Steph Curry one night and training the next. Kate Cunningham the night for that. Like this is not what he does best at this point in his career. And you don't want him to do that because you want him to provide spacing and scoring for you. And at that age, it's just impossible to do everything. So I think that's a bigger question that I have. And again, not saying it can or can't happen. I just think you need to start to gather some information on that because it is a question. Yeah, oh, it is. And what's interesting? Well, you were saying that about the defensive end, you know, I have said a bunch of times, like the plus of it is when that rebound, whoever it is, gets that rebound with his claxon power whoever that run starts immediately. And you got modest on
one side, you're going to have Caleb on one side. What's going to be interesting go. And this is where I give credit to Billy Donovan as well is that three point shooting because everybody can't, you know, just immediately call can go to the lane. And I'm talking gidi Caleb and modest at the same time and claxing, right? Somebody's got to spread out and it can't just be Norman Powell. So this is what you give credit to a guy like Billy Donovan for saying, you know, get those three point shots up for modest. You know what I mean? So modest might already know that in his brain, like, oh, I'm going to spread out a little bit of get this shot. And I say Caleb Wilson does and he just has a play with Josh Giddy. But that's where it's good where you can know the guy's three point shooting percentage is going to dictate exactly how good Josh Giddy is going to be on that break. Honestly. And if you are dictating that Caleb and modest are having to go to the corners because you need gidi and claxon in the middle of the paint running pick and roll or pushing in transition, like, are you getting the most out of Caleb? Modest that we have there in the corner. So I know that modest has kind of been talking about not being able to shoot mid range. But that was like what was
best for the team at that point. And the bulls weren't necessarily worried about giving him the runway to explore his mid range game. Maybe that comes in time. But that's just not how they were bulls actually. They were trying to win games. And you need to put up the best shots possible in order to win games. That wasn't one of them. So that could change. But I think you have to ask the question, are we getting the most out of our guys that we are building around? Yeah. And if that's not the question, if that's not the answer to that question, then I think you have some decisions make with your roster. But again, you can't make any of those decisions until you know for sure. I got a question for you guys. And they're both really important. It's a minute to the mail back. What's that? Another question. I wouldn't do the back door. I've got a credential pass here. I'm singing when so my question for you, they're both they're both really important. See a sort of credentials. But in terms of giddy success and the bulls offense this season, I'm going to force you guys to pick one. Last year, Giddy career high and three point attempts at five point two. Last year career high free throw attempts at four point two. You have to pick one. Would you rather would you think
it'd be better for giddy success offensively in the success of the bulls offensively if he continues last year, you shot 36% from three. Yeah. Last year, the year before that 37.8. Let's just say you keep it at that five or that six range. But you're saying you're getting a 38% shooter from Josh Giddy this year. Would you rather have that? Would you rather have Josh Giddy's free throw attempt skidding the five six maybe even seven range? What is better for him in his career and what is better for the bulls offense? That's a great question. I think it's tricky because the free throws are probably going to be a better indicator for his individual success because that means he's driving more. He's getting into the rim more. He's scoring more efficiently. He's learning how to break guys down off the dribble. But the three point shooting is probably more beneficial to the team success because that means he's opening up the floor for Caleb and modest the way we're talking about. Yeah, kick out. So can he hit the can he hit a knockdown three on a kick out play by modest or Caleb? Exactly. But for me personally, I don't think that he needs to become or really has the capability of becoming just like in a elite three point shooter that is that every team is worried about. So I want to see him get to the basketball. But then again,
it begs question of like how is that impacting the runway for growth for modest and Caleb? I don't know that those are mutually exclusive. Maybe they are maybe they're not. But for me, I think that's the best pathway for Giddy to succeed at the highest level is to become an elite driver. You look at Denny Ovdia as an example. That would be I think the formula for him individually. I 100% agree with Will Gottlieb on this. I know what when we talk about Josh Giddy and his game and what he does best, we immediately talk about him going to the bucket. The three point shot has always been something we said, man, if he can add that to his game, then he's awesome. But when we're talking about what his game is, is getting to the bucket. So if you add the through the free throw shooting to what is already the best part of your game, now you got yourself a real still going. I think I've got self-esteem, man, because as Joey said, Joey, he stated like we've seen him shoot over 35%. These past two seasons with the three point shot, right? But not much has changed,
you know, as far as how teams are guarding him and how team and winning is concerned, what would change is him consistently getting to the line and getting fouls on the opposing defense, meaning they got to go to the bench and coach has to start really coaching figure out who's going to be out there. And if Giddy can do that stuff, then it's really changes, man. And those are three points, you know, it's a free throw shot. It also probably gives him more trade value. That's what I want. If you want to go that direction. No, you're right. You're right. It increases those things. And I think it would be incredibly beneficial because I still think teams are going to be defending him his three point shot. Like they've been defending it the past two seasons. I don't think that's really going to change unless he starts hitting it like 42%. Then they'll take more of them exact. Then they'll be like, okay, this dude is a three point shooter. We've got to change our defense. But no, they know Jocelyn is wants to get to the to the lane and then create from getting to the lane. We've seen him get there, do the jump out passes, get there, you know, try to lay it up and stuff like that. If he could start drawing fouls on that stuff, it improves his
game so much more. And it would just be incredibly beneficial to the bulls if he do it that way. I'm with you. Do you want to try to knock out this next one quick or do you want to go to break? Maybe let's just keep it all. We can knock this out. We only have one more break left and then yeah, we'll go from cool. Let's do it from shy bulls on Twitter. Do you think the bulls can make a move for Yoke chip Denver doesn't perform or is injured and if there's a possibility to trade for him say modest giddy Powell and three picks. I think the bulls obviously if Yoke chip is available to them, they need to explore that. That's like the first and foremost. But I don't know that it necessarily makes sense with the bulls timeline right now, which is around Caleb. I do think those two would be an incredible fit together because everybody's an incredible fit next to Yoke chip. But I don't think that trading three for one plus three picks, it just leaves you really thin. It closes your window in your time frame to be able to compete and is Caleb going to be ready to play for a championship in year two or year one. I don't think that that's realistic to ask of him
at this point. So I probably don't go there. Yoke is going to be 31 years old. Yeah. Yeah. Just like trying to be sort of restrictive on that I think makes more sense. But again, I mean it's Yoke. She's the top two player in the world and has been for the last five years. If not more, it'd be hard to say no to that. But I just don't know if it's like in the bull's best interest because I don't think they'd be good enough to compete for a championship now. I think it makes building around Caleb in the future a lot harder. Yeah. Look at it. It would be fun. It would be really fun. And Yoke, how the hell out of 50 wins? How the hell does Denver even entertain that without the word Caleb Wilson in that trade? He's a reagent this summer and he is not extended. So if he says I want Chicago, it's the largest Serbian population in the country. Some stuff starts to happen. Yeah. But has there been any indication of him doing that? No. And so he has an option for next year. He's going to be a free agent. He's saying he's not going to pick it up and wants to do an extension after the season. Yeah. Like is he choosing the bulls? Maybe if Caleb's ready like that. But then the bulls don't probably need to give up that much
because he's coming as a free agent. And so you have to be careful there. But I also just don't think that the bulls are going to be at the top of his wish list if he is trying to compete at age 32 for a championship, given how young they are. And you know, maybe maybe things change over the course of the year. Caleb is like ready to go as a best player on a championship team caliber guy. Then maybe. But I think that's just a lot to ask. Could you imagine if the Joker came to Chicago and then we just take him to all the spots where they shot dark night and just shot Yoke, like standing at the corner, getting ready to get picked up by the van. Yeah. Yeah. Driving down lower, Wacker. Can you imagine out of control? It would be out of control. Just walking down the street with a truck. He can be in the truck. That flips over. Want to see the day? The DNVR guys would not be thrilled with us. Oh, no, no, no, they wouldn't. But did be welcome on your show, though. Yeah. More than welcome. Go back episode. Ladies and gents with the go go league big Dave Joey C on the production. Let's continue with the questions. Go one from Shay for you. Shout out Shayman. It's a good dude. Obviously he didn't play well after joining the team last year, but I want to ask about Dillingham. What can he do to earn minutes? Does he have any positive value at all? Why wasn't he at summer league? That's the question. Yeah, it's a good question. I think that basically I'm just not sure how much the bulls felt like they could learn from Dillingham playing at summer league. He's the kind of guy that can put up big numbers, but big big numbers doesn't necessarily tell you impact. And I think they wanted to put the ball in Caleb Buses and Sans and Dale and Sué and Sans and see what they have with those guys and felt like not not that like Dillingham was going to make them
worse or anything like that, but I just don't I think that you would be in a position where now you're getting to learn a little bit less about some of the other guys that you bring in, whether it's Caleb and and and Dalen or you know the exhibit 10 guys or the you know just the other summer league roster guys. So I think that was the priority. He did not play super well and has just kind of struggled in the NBA. I think the NBA has just moved away from smaller guards like him. Yeah. Can he still be a productive player? I think so. What can he do to earn minutes? I think he's just got to compete more defensively. He's got to take better shots. I think he's got to play more within the flow of the system, but it's just it's tough with how big he is because he's not strong enough to get to the rim. He is a good shooter, but hasn't shot the ball great and he's a liability defensively. He just did. So I don't know what his value is looking like around the league. I cannot imagine that it's very high. Maybe there's a team that will just like take a chance on his pedigree being a top 10 pick just a couple of years ago, but I don't think that he is like this diamond in the rough that is going to result in the bulls getting a first round draft pick for him,
even though he was a high draft pick. I think that that ship has just sailed at this point. And it's a good reminder that like at a certain point, the draft stuff does wear off on guys. And you have to look at who they are as players and not where they were drafted a couple of years ago. So he can obviously is a talented enough player to have a good career, but I also it's like he's going to be I think $6.5 million this year and eight next year. I would not surprise me if they just don't even pick up his Ricky option because they want to create even more space to be able to maneuver or maybe move him preemptively to try to create more space. And maybe another team does value him. Obviously, you know, to a certain degree, but I don't see him being this like premium asset that the bulls have at their disposal to be able to either insert into their lineup long term or turn into another asset. When I think of small guards who make that impact in this league, three things I immediately think of is strength, athleticism and IQ. And thinly haven't you mentioned the strength,
like that's going to be very important. He's got to get stronger. And this league because those guys that I'm talking about, they go to the lane and they score that way. Trade Jones is a great example of that. Smaller guard, but he attacks the rim for sure. And he has success in there. And plus he knows he has a better chance of getting a foul call because, you know, I'm saying he's a smaller guard out there. So he uses that. I hope he is working with trade zones and trade showing him some little tricks and things that he can learn. The athleticism we know he has. He has that for sure. The I can see Shifty. Yes, shout off. He can get in the spots. Like he's talented player without a doubt, without a doubt. The IQ, he also, I think, is still working on for sure. And I'm strictly basing that off of a lot of the turnovers and things that we saw him make last season, like bouncing off his foot or, you know, the means of dribbling, making the wrong pass or making the negative play. Defensively, you're not going to really expect too much from him, but there has to be one thing when you're a smaller guard. It has to be a one thing that you can do on defense that can really
contribute. Even if it's you're the guy quarterbacking it, letting everybody know what they need to be. If it's you're the guy who's getting all the steals, like I'm thinking of a Jose Alvarado and guys like that. Like if you're the guy that can disrupt, you know what I'm saying when you're out there, that works as well. Even if you're the physical one, you know what I mean? You're out there drawing the fouls, like, but you have to make your presence known out there some kind of way when you're the smaller guard on the squad. So he's got a lot to work on. I don't know why he wasn't there some elite to be real with you. I thought he should have been there for sure because honestly, they needed a point guard too to be out there and he could have worked on his stuff. But any could have been with Thiago's flitter, you know what I mean? Learned a little bit more, but you know, that ship is sealed. That's going now. We'll see him in the preseason and see what he's been working on to see if he's gotten better and see if he's long for this team because I think in all those things I just stated, that's how you can earn those minutes. And also just your approach to the game. I think that's important to the front office and to the coach, how they approached the game
because you saw how they talked about SNG like some of that stuff was off the court and just his approach. And I think that's important as well with Dillingham, how he does that. So yeah, I think he still has a shot, but he's got work to do on the other bottom line. It leads into these next two questions that we have about the relegation zone and about lottery reform. I guess we can just start with the first one. Given that 2027 is considered a weaker draft, should the bulls not care about relegation zone considering if they get a top five pick, they would not be able to select top five in the 2028 draft. Shout out, you're a great guy for that. And I think that's a good point. You know, the lottery, though, it's like it's totally flat in my opinion. It's like you're talking about last couple of years, it's been you get incrementally more odds the worse you are. So it's like, if you are ninth worst, you get 1.8% chance or whatever it is. But if you're sixth worst, you might get 5.4% chance. So it scales. This is like totally flat. If you're a bottom three team, I think it's 5.4% chance. So that's for all three of the worst teams in league. From four to 10,
it's I think 8.1% chance. So it's not like the worst or better you are the higher your odds are. It's like there are thresholds where it's like this or this. And it's pretty much effectively flat with also them drawing for every single pick. I think you just cannot at all navigate where you're going to end up in the lottery. All you can do is put your best foot forward. I think that leads into the other question from climber Andrew again with the unknown of lottery reform. Do you think there's more potential for teams to trade young or blocked players instead of draft capital? How do you evaluate those players? Because they are more likely to be long term pieces. I think at the end of the day, teams just have to do what is best for them. You cannot worry about where you're going to end up. You cannot worry about investing all your resources to avoid the relegation zone or to prevent yourself from being a play in team up or down. You just you just have to do what is best for you. And teams are always going to need to rebuild. They're always going to need to reset their roster and go younger if their Asian core isn't working. And teams are always going to need
to add up and load up more talent if they are trying to compete. So I don't think that the dynamics of the market will change in that way. It's really to me only about the cost of making those types of deals. And I think teams are going to be a little bit more hesitant to trade picks. But I don't think the bulls are in the situation. But if I'm one of these like competitive teams like the timber wolves and we saw this already with them, the sons, I don't like care about my pick. I have zero chance to control it. It's not going to help me. It's not as valuable to me as it might be to another team. I would like prey on the fact that these teams are going to be overly coveting this. These picks and get good players in return and decrease the value of my pick that way. So I think that that is a strategy that better teams will use for the bulls. They're not in that spot. They need to be accumulating picks as much as possible because you look at the history, the recent history of teams that are competing. It's so many guys through the draft, the thunder, the spurs, even the timber wolves. They invested a lot of draft picks in trade to get Rudy Gober. And some of the other players that they've come in, Lamello Ball now, Nazarid was a late draft pick.
You look at the next, yeah, they didn't draft any of those guys, but they loaded up on picks and then traded away all those picks to get my kale bridges and go in and go be in jail in Brunson. So I think that's just a false equivalent. And you still need to get draft picks. You still need to build up whatever way you think you can. So I just don't know how much it's really going to matter if you should like navigate towards the relegation zone or not. You could end up being the 16th best team in the league, meaning 16th worst draft odds and still win a top five pick. Or you could be the worst team in the league and end up 12th or the sixth worst team in the league and end up first or 12th or 16th. It's just you have no way to know. And so I just wouldn't worry about it. Yes, I would not care. I would just do whatever is best for me. And that's why we've talked about so much about the draft picks and just getting young players and finding ways to bring in value and young talent where you can because that's really what's important to the bulls right now, not being good enough to avoid the relegation zone or not. Yeah, I don't think it's something the bulls should be like, oh, we care about it, but I agree if you go like you shouldn't
be worried about it. But I just don't like the idea of all men as a weak draft. So we should not focus this one then we should do it on the next one like that. No, like the job of the front office is to find talent. I don't care what's happening in that draft. It could be top heavy trash and then oh, man, in a few years, some dudes you drafted at six, seven, eight, nine, ten is amazing. It's just because you don't know it's a crap shoot. It's a draft. It's a lottery. You don't know. So yeah, you have to be prepared in your mind as a front office. You have to be prepared in your mind, like going into every draft, treating it the exact same. I don't want to hear this. This is a weak draft simply because some of us, and I'm just speaking as a fan, just speaking as some of us might know enough about certain player because we think this player, oh, man, he's not talked about on a national scale, then he's not that guy. That's the front office's job to understand that and figure it out. And they should never have that approach of guys. This is a weak draft. We'll worry about next year. Let's forego something because no, time is not your friend. You know, let's say it
on this, bro, like you've got to nail these things and get it right. And the quicker you can nail those things and get it right, the more you won't care about another draft, let's say even if it's loaded, you won't care if you already got your team together. Exactly. You built it. So yeah, man, that should be your focus every single year as a front office. I don't want them. I don't mind if fans do, but I don't want the front office taking that approach like this is a weak draft. I just think you literally can't do that with the way that the odds are so flat. Yeah, it's just a complete crapshoot. You have a between a five or an eight percent chance to land in any of 16 spots. There's no way to do that. And so you should be making decisions with $50 million in cap space. Yeah. That dictate, are we going to try to be bottom three or not? We're going to try to avoid the bottom three. I just don't think that's the right approach. You just have to do what's best for you. And if what's best for you is to get veterans in there so that you can see how good Caleb and Gideon Matasar then go that way. But if you think what's best for you is to just trade every single player that you have for picks and you know, irrespective of where you think
you're going to end up, then you have to do that. So I just I would not worry about where you end up in the standings, worry about getting as much talent or value or both on your team and see where the chips fall. Yeah, I agree with you. Climber Andrew had a question about the Yago splitter. You can set the do we know Tia goes play style based on what he did in Portland. And that kind of leads into what I was talking about earlier about the culture of being set for the scene. As far as the play style, just from what I saw, physical, offensive rebounding, you know, and a star. You get already an all star on your team. And it feels like that he had pieces and moved to his credit when to put those pieces and implement those guys into the game. A lot of it went around through holiday, which is why I keep bringing up Josh Gidey a lot because a lot of it circled around you holiday. He played a ton of minutes for them. And because you know, the IQ, the defense and the and the cold blooded shots that he can hit as well. So a lot of that predicates on him and
just how good he is. So I look at Josh Gidey and I'm looking at trade zones and even into a dealing. They got to find that guy at that point guard position because I think obviously it's very important that Tia goes splitter when you were talking about how he's running his offense and his defense. And he obviously wants guys with size. He had clean colors over there, you know, doing his thing, bro. He won't he had time, Lord, as well. He won size, you know, and that's why I think he was so hard trying to be hard on S and G trying to get the best things out of him because he's got that that size and he's still growing to do might be seven feet before we know it. Then you got modest still there and you got Caleb still there and you got claxing over here and you got that Collins here. You got Jaylen Smith here. There's tons of size. Big guys for the Chicago Bulls and I feel like that's important also to Tia goes splitter who played that position obviously as well. So yeah, I think it's that, bro. I really do. I think his playing style is definitely point guard heavy. Guys who can control the ball and run that half court offense. You saw Danny Obvious, even if it
was just Danny saying, I got the ball and I'm going. It still was him controlling the offense, you know what I'm saying? So I think those things are very important. Offensive rebound. I think is another huge piece for yeah, just to put some numbers behind this. And again, I did like a more thorough write up. I don't want to give away too much. You should go read this mailbag from a couple of weeks ago now. But you're you're absolutely right. The Blazers were fourth in offense of rebounding. The Bulls are 27th. So I think that's going to be an area where they really flip things around. They were both in the bottom 10 in turnovers. They're both around middle of the pack in effective field goal. And the Blazers were 13th and free three rate. The Bulls were 25th. So I expect them to try to maximize the possession game in that way. There's only so much you can do about shot making. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You're either good at that or not, but you can't like optimize for that. Right. Right. Exactly. Turnovers. I think you can try to be a little bit more judicious with the ball. But the Bulls are 21st. The Blazers were 30. They were the last team in the league in terms of turnover rate. And I think a lot of people would expect that that
has to do with transition. I'll get to that. But not very much the case. And then free throw rate. Obviously, we talked about obvia a bunch on this program. I think Gidey, modest Caleb are all going to have to jump. Take jumps there because the Bulls were 25th last year. The Blazers were 13. So those are probably the those are the four factors. Those are probably the key areas where you can start to see in their statistical profile, how they differ. In terms of their shot profile, very similar. Bulls and Blazers were both top six in corner three point attempts, both top 10 in above the break threes and top five in rim shots. They were both bottom couple in three point or I'm sorry, in mid range shooting. So these were high volume rim and three teams. The Blazers are really good at free throw attempts. The Bulls were not. But neither team took mid range shots. So they're really optimizing for efficiency and possession battle. And I think that's what they both teams needed to be doing because neither of them had like a true super duper star. Obviously made a big leap. And then I went into the synergy numbers. I don't want to like read through all these right here. Again, I have a table that lists out transition isolation, pick and roll post of spot up handoff,
all that stuff. But I would say like the the big keys are the bulls are really good in transition. They were second. The Blazers were 18th. So I think I wonder how much the bulls are going to be running. I still think that's going to be a part of their identity. But I wonder if they might put less emphasis on that. The Blazers were 11th in isolation. The bulls were last. They did not nicely. They didn't have guys that could do that. The Blazers did. Are the bulls now going to shift more towards that? Or is it going to be a case by case thing where the bulls don't have that guy then they can't really do that. Let's see what else was interesting here. A lot more off-ball movement from the Blazers. Especially in terms of cutting, they were 14th and the bulls were 25th. And then put backs, the bulls are 28th. That's offensive rebounding. And the Blazers were 5th. So I would say, again, those are probably the biggest differentiators. A lot of them were fairly similar. You can go back through and look more details than I kind of explained some of them. But those are the areas where I would say there's some potential for the bulls to change. Or it will be interesting to see how much Tiago is catering to the talent on his team. Because if they're not going to be this
offensive rebounding team now, that tells you, okay, if I'm Tiago, I know that the bulls don't have those guys. We're going to optimize for something else. Whereas if they do turn towards that, and again, the roster has changed. Nick Claxton's a different kind of rebounder than Vouch. Then maybe that is something that's just ingrained in his basketball philosophy. And that's what you're going to see. So I think you're just going to learn a lot by how they play, especially early on in the season. I love how you said that. A different rebounder than Vouch. Like you're right. Like both rebound and both have different styles. And yeah, styles make fights. Maybe side roles. All right, guys, how about some dessert as we wind down, ladies and gentlemen? How about something to cleanse the pallet of all the alls. Neil, you just ate with the veggies. How about some dessert for you? We got some questions. Here's one from a guy, Emar guy. Once again, if you couldn't work in sports media anymore, what would you pursue as a career? Well, the gogali, I'm looking at you. It can create something. Yeah, no, no, no, no, no, not going to be what I would say. Yeah. I mean, I put
I put my answer in slot in in discord in our dihardt discord. Okay. I just replied to a couple that I wasn't able to get to. Okay. And my answer to this one was just like, honestly, I have no idea. I literally, I went straight into this out of college. I was like, I really want to find a way to make this happen. Yeah. Yeah. I'm like scratching and clawing to try to make it. But like, we just have a great thing going. I'm not really trying to pursue something different. Shout out. Um, but I honestly don't even know because I've just I've gone like full all in on this. Yeah. Somehow, I just make it work. Yes. Um, I, that's a weird question. It would be something. I guess it'd be something artsy. I guess you can ask my friends this question. They'll probably answer it better than I could. But I'm assuming it'll be something that has to do with the arts because I love the arts. So in anything, you know, involving it. Yeah. I'd probably be doing something in that kind of sense because doing this wasn't in my view. Like doing it the way I'm working.
Yeah. Not the way I'm doing it. You want to say it all get where I want to be myself and, you know, do things and hang out with my friends and stuff. Like, no, I didn't see it like that. So for it being like this now, like, yeah, I'm good. You know what I'm saying? Like everything's all right. So yeah, I don't even like, I don't even know what I would think about. And maybe I should think about this a little bit. But like, yeah, I just don't have a clue. If you are watching this and you think I'd be good at something, please let me know because I've got nothing. I already told them like, he'll be a part of a team. He'll be running some teams. Yeah. That's cool. Yeah. That's like that. That's how that's how I see you. Josie. I'm saying DJ goat. Next thing you know, you just see him. On those billboards, those Las Vegas billboards. What would you be, Joe? What's that? What would you be? If I didn't have this, yeah, I'd probably back to the arts, probably back to the theater for me. Back to the theater. I've been creative for like over 20 years. So that's kind of like a full season actor. That's right. We got a talented guy. That's a guy. I'm the guy. I can't understand. That's it. Oh, I know what you'd be. Go. What I'd be. You'd be a professional gambler.
I didn't get gambler. You'll be on that roulette. You were in the stage with the president. You know, you're in a gay. I'm at 3 a.m. I had a shake. I'm shaking down a huge hand. He'll be in there, man. I can see you doing that. I can see it. I don't know how to end. I don't think it would end well. Yeah. I can see. I can see. I can see. Final one. Nathan here says, if you were a music producer, takes with and your test with constructing a four piece boy band from this young bull team, who are you recruiting and why? I need your answer on this. I don't even know where to start. Okay. So how is Gidey not in this group? Gidey is definitely the lead man. He might be the lead guy based off the hair. And you know, being from a different country, you know what I'm saying? Like, I can bring in that aspect as far as the viewership. So that that would be a part of it. What is the role beat? Like, is he a guitarist? Is he a boy band? He says, he's a boy band.
I don't know how to say everything. Everybody's just singing. Everybody's singing. I think he's the pretty bad boy, right? Like put on the black leather jacket. He might be. He would be the black turtle neck. Yeah. So I'll say he would be the stylistic centric one for sure. Right. He's not afraid to take risk in fashion. You know what I'm saying? So he would be that guy. You know, far as my band is concerned, modest too. Well, being this because of the charisma that he has and the charm that he has and he likes talking to people and being like, he seems like he would love being on his party. He's the party boy. He's the one that's like, come here there. I'm in the music video. He's the one that wouldn't win your break down to the bridge. He's like, Hey girl. So the key to Evergreen boy band is you got to have that that baritone. You got to have that one dude who's the low voice. Yeah. Like that's true. I mean, you're not going to be as good as the dude from Boyz to man. That's just not going to. No, no, no, no, no. Who I don't know who that be. What's on the team? You know what? You know what? Better. Um, the deep voice. I think it might be
sad. I was going to say that college would be a part of this. But now we're just doing all the white guys on the team. Oh no, you know, I'm a feel one here. Go, you know, you know, I'm a slam. What he had brother? I'm a slam. What he had on there? That has to be this. Jaylen have a deep voice like that. Jaylen Smith. I wouldn't think of him that way now. Okay. Okay. What about Isaac? A Coro looks like, you know, when like in the music video where the break up happens and you got that thousand year old. He was like, what he was mic'd up singing. It was a little high. It was a little high. I think I'll agree with him. I thought there was that guy. I think trade Jones would be good. Okay. I think I would like trade Jones on this man. He would be the low key one. Bungie six, 10 guys and trade Jones. Yeah, man. I mean, look, is Patrick Williams the baritone? Oh my god. I know it's a remove the player. Remove the voice. I have the deep voice. Yeah. Oh, man. I don't like that. I gotta be in my band. He don't have to. You know, I miss. I don't know, man. You know, I think about you. And he has flowers. You know, 44 things about you.
You know, 44 all day girl. Got your 44 roses. Yeah, thinking about you only girl. This is how I roll. Yeah. Okay. You know what? Yes. Okay. Gini, modest trade Jones, Patrick Williams. I can't love it. No, no, not Caleb is a solo act. He's a solo act. Caleb is a solo act. He's the hairy styles in this situation. You would do one album and he'd be so gone. You know what I mean? He's gone. He's peace out. We see it as soon as we see him. We know he's leaving the band. Immediately. You know, he's out of here because that is the star. He's Bobby Brown. Now, like that news. You have his own thing going on. So yes, Caleb will be a star. He's a solo act. A solo act on his own. But, take, don't that trade. You've got to have that one that everybody is like, oh, the quiet one, the shy one. Nobody talks about. You know what I'm saying? Like, and that's trade Jones, man. Trades on. Could absolutely be that dude on this boy band. The question is, what do we call this band? That's my question.
I was thinking of great. I know we're still workshop and Caleb. Will Wilson. Nicknames new additions. Not a bad nickname. I can't be biting because new edition new kids on the block. I don't too much new. You know what I mean? Like, it has to be just something that pops and hits you in the face. You know what I mean? Like, I don't know. I don't know. Like red cups or something. Believe me. How do we call them? Go go get my skill set. I call them go back. Go. You be the manager. By the way, like your manager. They do not want me involved in this. You're like, we want nothing to do. No, you because you would be straight business. We won't we won't care about that. You would be straight business on there. Where's Emma? Emma. Listen to my boy band for the Chicago Bulls. Okay. My boy band for the Bulls. Modus Los Ellis. Josh Gidey. Trajos. Okay. Okay. And this is only for the deep voice. The baritone. Patrick Williams.
I got a name. Hoops Boulevard. Hoops Boulevard. You feeling that? Who's Boulevard? A hoops avenue or something. You like Boulevard? I'm in the Boulevard. That's okay. Those managing right? Absolutely. Thank you, man. That's my career path that I didn't get. Your career managing. Humanities. Boulevard. That plays sports. How did I not think of that? We setting you up. We go. Listen, baby, when I tell you to get on stage, you get on stage. Listen to the go. You're going to be Tom Hanks. Do it like that. Yo, man. Thank you all for hanging out with us. We're going to get out of here. Thank you all for this wonderful goat bag episode of C-H-G-O Bulls. Enjoy your weekend. Go Bears. That's what it's about, y'all. Joey C. Will the go got Lee big Dave.
