On April 26, 2005, 25-year-old Janet Abaroa was found stabbed to death inside her Durham, North Carolina home. Investigators quickly focused on her husband, Raven Abaroa, but it would take years and a surprising piece of evidence before charges were filed.

He admitted to numerous affairs, and various women came forward with stories of abuse and womanizing. But the case against him was thin, and even at trial, it was clear this was not going to be an easy prosecution.
