Marlins Rewind: 9/3/26 Marlins at Royals

Well, the Marlins dropped the series finale in Kansas City to the Kansas City Royal 7-3. The final score, Jack and Bullen, AJ, Ramos breaking this thing down for you. Tough one for the fish tonight. This game was a heck of a lot closer than the final score would suggest. It was a three run bottom of the eighth is kind of a put away inning. This Royal's offense, man, they can swing it. I think we knew that coming in because of the way they finished the month of August.

1:00They were 12 and 2 over the last 14. Credit to the fish for taking the front two. But Jensen did his thing. Bobby Whitrieg, some havoc. Vinnie Pasquantino got going. Caglione did his thing. This is a good lineup that just took one of three this week in season. Yeah, I mean, they had a good approach against Sandy. It's very hard to sweep a team, especially with the line of the way it's been going for the Royals. So you almost had to be perfect. And Sandy just, he was effective at points, but he did leave some balls over the middle. And to Carter Jensen, most of the pitches that he hit were still over the plate. Sandy did try to attack him in with some sweepers with some sinkers as well. But it wasn't enough to get him to back off his approach which is going up and out of the other way. So he definitely did. I mean, he was a hitch sigh of the cycle. Was it a triple sigh or a single sigh of the cycle? So I mean, he had a great series. And then Michael Walker, he gave up those first runs at the first two innings. They scored four runs off of him. And then he made an adjustment.

2:01He was able to get some length. And to make it a just that's what that's what those veteran guys type do. And he just figured out a game plan. I was going to say he pitched like a 35-year-old that's been doing this for 14 years. Yes, he's like too soon, Junior. Just hold on. Let me let me flip this little curveball in, this cutter. This change of the change of really started to play early in the outing. The change of was up in the zone. And then later on in the outing, he was able to get it down. And Marlins couldn't do anything against him. But yeah, I mean, it was one of those losses that it seemed closer than when it was with that three run eighth inning. But they battled just wasn't able to come up with the win tonight. Yeah, the Marlins were trying to do. Their lineup was trying to do the dui from Alchemin the middle. The future is now old man. And then one day, he was not today, Junior. But again, Marlins take two or three here. It was overall a good week in Kansas City. They just unfortunately fall because of a three run eighth to the Royal 7-3 on Thursday night. We will talk to you at home against the Cubs tomorrow. All right, highlights. All right, highlights tonight here on the Marlins radio network. Again, the Marlins fall. The Kansas City Royals 7-3. How did this ball game sound? Well, we're going to play a how scoring open. It didn't take long. Literally the first pitch of the game. Here's Bert. It's an every bird. So Hernandez, praise the ball high in the air out to left center field. Collins back at the track. He leaves up. It is gone. We're just getting started. First pitch pass ball. Bert gets his hands extended. And it's a beauty of a bomb to left center. One pitch in. It's one nothing fish. So, Erie Bereto, Hernandez, again, is team leading 23rd home run on the year. And the fish were not done early. In the second, out of this big Baltimore chop from Mr. Mac.

4:04Two on a Mac. That one, a chopper over the head of the first baseman Perez into right for a base hit. Big old Baltimore chop on one hop gets on to the outfield grass. Marcy trots in from third. And Joe Mac does the job of the ground ball. RBI single. It's two nothing fish. But Kansas City did have a response. First one from a scorching hot bat in Carter, Jensen. Laser. That's beyond the dive of the second baseman. Said, oh, huh. That's going to roll for a little bit here. Isbell flying to third. Marcy picking it up now. Isbell around third. He's coming home. Harvey, his relay throw to third is not in time. Carter, Jensen in there with a feet first slide. He's got himself an RBI triple. Casey on the board. And the tying run 90 feet away here with one away in the bottom of the third. It's two one Marlins. So Jensen, he did get Kansas City going. But they would end up tying this game because of the former Florida Gator, Jack Caglione.

5:05Oh, two. Caglione lasers down the right field line. That's in for a base. It Cag's racing around first headed to second. And we'd off man Jensen comes in to score no problem from third base as the throw comes in now. Jack Caglione, it wasn't just an August thing. He's got himself an RBI double for the second night in a row. And we're tied at two here in the bottom of the third. But then the greatest prediction of the history of Marlins on deck to open the fourth. We're tied at two in the top of the fourth in the first pitch. Augustine, he smashes out to centerfield. Good. Good. His ball is back. He's looking up and it's gone. Steve's guarantee catches Augustine's third homer on the year is a lead off bomb. And it's three two Marlins in the top of the fourth. So for background on that, Steve's guarantee in segment five of Marlins on deck was literally a

6:06fourth inning run. He cited Waka's fourth inning ERA and he also said Augustine Ramirez to Homer. So Augustine Ramirez on the first pitch of the fourth opens it up with a solo homer his third on the year. And again, it is the best Steve's guarantee in the history of Marlins on deck. There's no doubt about that. We push a little bit further on in the game. Unfortunately Carter Jensen had another big swing in him. First pitch here to Carter Jensen. That one lifted a high in the air out to right. There's no doubt about this. He's on fire. Carter Jensen was flirting with the fountains in right center. He peeled it just to the right. It's a two run home run. 440 feet for the rookie catcher. It's his third homer in 26 hours. And it's number 22 on his year. He's got himself an RBI triple and a two run shot tonight.

7:07And it's four three Kansas City in the bottom of the fifth. And that was unfortunately the run support for Kansas City against San Diego Contra. That takes us to the eighth and first big swing in that three run eighth came from Jack Caglione. Oh one. Caglione with a line shot right back up the box. That is through. And then the Jensen comes in his score and there's some insurance for Kansas City. It's a two run game. Second RBI on the night for Jack Caglione and the former Florida Gator makes it five three Kansas City in the bottom of the eighth. Now unfortunately they would play two more to make it seven three. And that was the final score in this one. Marlins went down in order in the night. So again fish fall seven to three here on Thursday night at Kaufman. Let's head down to listen to Marlins manager Clayton McCullough after this one. McCullough will start with Sandia and the pain the butt that Jensen was this year. Yeah, he had a great series. Good looking young hitter.

8:07He's had a really nice year and came through a number of occasions, you know, in this series. I think today, you know, we talked to our pitchers a lot, you know, 00 strikes. They get hit. You know, we can live with like, you know, just a guy who's swinging the bat well. Got a, you know, got a strike like a slider that put a good swing on it. So, you know, outside of that and really go back a couple innings. The, you know, Sandi was really throwing the ball well. I think there was some time. You know, he had, he had some count leverage on some guys and probably just didn't get to some two strike pitches to, you know, some places, you know, he wanted to and they were able to, you know, get some hits there and score a couple. But I mean, really outside of really, you know, a string of, you know, three, four hitters. You know, another, you know, solid start like we've seen from him now for a really good stretch. So, you know, they do it in this team. They've been swinging the bats in August and so we saw that this series and tonight they were able to, you know, come through with some some extra bass hits to, you know, catching their runs. Offensively you guys get off to a hot start against Walker.

9:07What, what did you take offensively against him? Yeah, I mean, it was good, you know, bird getting us going right away first pitch and it was good to see Gus. He, you know, to drive a ball like that to the middle of the field in the air. That's a, you know, a really good sign, you know, and he's someone that can do that for us. Hopefully this can, something like that can get Gus, you know, going, going here over the next couple of weeks. It'd be a real boost for us. So I did. I thought we had some good at bats. Mars put a good swing on the one, you know, lead off double there. And so we thought we were, you know, doing a good job of kind of hanging there. The game was really, you know, really tight there early on. Walker's got a good change up. But I think, you know, he was able to get some, some swings and miss down below on that. But, you know, it was really, you know, tight there, you know, until the eighth. What's the latest on our Kyle Stowers? Yeah, so we might, you know, obviously got hit in the foot and that didn't feel great. And when I, you know, went out there for one of the pitching changes, he just said his left hand string was cramping up some. So, Gladys spoke up and said something and just thought, you know, what, let's just go in Kyle and no need to keep pushing, you know, through potentially anything. Don't really have anything further than that.

10:09You know, since we finished up the game, but, you know, hoping it was nothing more than just a, you know, cramp. Do you say how it compared maybe the previous? No, you know, he didn't just another, he goes, hey, my hand string starting to cramp a little bit. So when he said that, it was like, all right, well, you know, soon as I hand the ball off here, you and I can just walk in and, you know, let you go in and get, you could check out. Sandiel Contra, six innings, four runs, two punchouts and a walk. You give it the home run and this one here was Sandy Post game. Sandiel, how would you assess tonight's outing? First of all, thanks, Gough, for keeping helping the game. Not good, you know, so he was out there fighting to get the win, you know, to be on the happy fly tonight, you know, but we can make the job done. What did you feel like you could have done better tonight? You know, just my execution, you know, so better location, I think I was trying to throw my best pitch out there, but I mean, I was living everything in the middle. I guess the first two runs they scored, they were on O2 pitches.

11:09Is that more frustrating than like the home run to Janssen? Yeah, for sure, you know, so I don't know what is happening to me, you know, but I mean, I've been throwing out a strike, getting ahead all the time, but it's hard to me to get a strike out, you know, but it's part of the game. You know, I just got to keep doing my best to all the time, give it the lead to the team to win the game, you know, so, like I said, it's just part of the game. I just got to keep my hands up. Just a big picture. Last year you guys were, you know, fighting for playoff spot as well. In 23, you were hurt. Just what does it feel like to be back in these games that are meaningful where everything matters? It's been a lot, you know, so knowing that in 2023, I can, I can be now there, you know, and do my best for the team to win a game to get on to the playoff, you know. Finally, we're doing great this year, so we still have the chance to make it. So now I'm very happy to be on that spot, to be out there and fighting every fifth day for my team to win a lot of games.

12:09So yeah, it's a bit different than 2023 because we've been doing some great things that they won. So you saw Kansas City the first two nights watching them. What did you take from them and how did you feel like you could prepare better? They aggressive, you know, they're aggressive. They make you throw in the stride and make you miss on the strides on, you know. But I mean, yeah, they have a lot of great heat out there, you know. So you gotta be very careful and other time you want to throw your strike and, you know. And, uh, Jens and I think he's the best, you know, right now, you know, and they and they sigh. So, uh, but I mean, you know, they just win the game seven years ago, you debuted. Do you remember Michael Walker as one of your teammates? What can you remember from from that time? He was a great teammate, you know. So I got a chance to have it for like a month and a half, you know. So he was treating me like a like a brother, you know. So he's a great person, you know. So I'm very happy that the way that he been having a lot of success.

13:10All right. Well, the Marlins are back home. They can unpack, put their feet up a little bit. It's going to be a nine game home stand and the most important of the season.
