You're listening to His light, your path with Pastor Rod Haller, Sr. Today's devotional is titled Money. Pastor Haller will be looking at 2 Corinthians chapter 9 verses 7 and 8, where Paul reminds us that giving isn't just about money. It's also about our time, our talents, our resources, and our hearts. And now here's Pastor Haller. 2 Corinthians chapter 9, 7 and 8. Every man, according as he purposeth in his heart. So let him give, not grudgingly, nor of necessity, for God loved with a cheerful giver. God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things may abound to every good work, giving can be done in various ways. This passage does not seem to be limited to giving money. People give of their time, their
property, their food, their care. God has given us things, and we are to use them wisely. We were given things to provide for our needs and to bless others. Therefore, we must use what God has given us for His glory. Included in giving is the idea of money. Use properly money as a convenient way of transacting business and other affairs of life. Used incorrectly, it can lead to all manner of ills. In our text verses, Paul is addressing the concept of giving to the work of the ministry. Giving is part of a believer's duty, and it is part of the believer's ministry. Therefore, Paul sets forth some guidelines for proper giving. First, every man is to make a decision how he will give. He ought to
consider how God has prospered him. He ought to consider how God would have him to give. Therefore, let him purpose in his heart. Second, giving is not to be done grudgingly or of necessity. No one is to give because they are pressured to give, but rather because they see the need and they understand that God is in it. They are to give with a sincere attitude of cheerfulness. They are to give. Because one who gives cheerfully pleases God. Third, key point, God responds to our giving. Cheerful giving moves God to give grace. That grace comes in the form of, let me read again from 2 Corinthians 9 verse 8, and God is able to make all grace
abound towards you that ye always having all sufficiency and all things may abound to every good work. God will provide the cheerful giver with grace to have sufficiency in all things. In other words, the believer will have what he needs to abound in every good work. Simply put, if you will give cheerfully, then God will reward your giving with more opportunities for good works to abound. The good works continue as the cheerful giving continues. Note that this passage is not referring to securing salvation by giving. The salvation of a soul is not of works. As Ephesians 2 8 and 9 clearly states, for by grace are ye saved through faith and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of
works, lest any man should boast. Rather, this passage is addressing believers in their giving, that they will see that proper giving is an important part of the Christian life. Let these text verses give you a foundation for biblical giving. And God is able to make all grace to abound toward you that ye always having all sufficiency in all things may abound to every good work.
