Today on his Light Your Path, Pastor Rod Holler's Senior shares a powerful devotional titled, Redeeming the Time. Pastor Holler will show us what it truly means to walk wisely and make the most of our time for God as we live in this dark world. Ephesians chapter 5, verses 15 and 16. See them that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time because the days are evil. These words were written by Paul to the believers at Ephesus. It was a wicked Roman city. It was the home of the Temple of Diana. That temple was one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. There were believers in Ephesus and Paul wrote a letter to them which we call Ephesians.
Our text verses come from that book. It was a time of great change from the law to the church. This letter to the believers at Ephesus is foundational to understanding the truth and many profound truths are set forth in this short book of Ephesians. One of the challenges before these believers was for them to be a light in great spiritual darkness. Believably, these Christians were once worshipers of Diana. They are coming out of that idolatry into the glorious truth of the true and only God. They would need to witness to their old friends. They would need to open their eyes to the fallacy of Diana worship. They would need to live differently before the people to let the light shine in word
and indeed. In those circumstances they are told, see then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, not as wise, redeeming the time because the days are evil. A simple outline of the book of Ephesians is in chapters 1, 2 and 3 is doctrine and chapters 4, 5 and 6 we have application. So in our text verses, Paul is setting forth application for the Christian life, that we are to walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time. Let us note some key points about these verses. Walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise. This means that believers are to be aware of their surroundings and the reality of the spiritual battle.
Beware to behave with wisdom in contrast to behaving like a fool. Second, redeeming the time. Redeem the time is to make the most of each day. There are souls to be saved. There are believers that need encouraged. There is always work for the Lord to be done. So let us make the most of the time we have here on earth. Third, because the days are evil. We live in a fallen creation. When God finished creating this world, He declared that it was good. And God saw everything that He had made and behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. But sin entered the world and the days became evil. We have the same challenge before us today, as the believers had it Ephesus, to walk circumspectly,
not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time. We are to tend to our personal walk with the Lord. And so we let our light shine, to bring men to this saving grace of God, and to encourage other believers to walk worthy of our calling. And to work daily for the Lord. Thereby we will be redeeming the time because the days are evil. That concludes Pastor Holler's devotional redeeming the time.
