Nottinghamshire's Roads Get $64M Boost

On April 27th, Nottingham Shires Roads are hitting the jackpot with a 64 million pound funding boost.

After the county council pitched a special request to East Midlands Mayor, Claire Ward.

This stacks on top of the 47 million pounds already locked in for highway maintenance in 2026, 27 through the east.

Earlier this week, council documents revealed they want to speed up repairs by pulling forward 20 million pounds from 2027.

28, but Ward shut that down quick.

The extra cash gets spread over three years, about 13 million pounds in 2026, 27, then 20 to 25 million pounds.

Each of the next two, Ward made it clear, the money's coming, but no shortcuts on timing, and if they borrow to bridge gaps, that's on them with the interest bites.

She called the funding generous and plans to hold the council accountable, turning Nottingham Shires into a test bed for regional road fixes.

County leader Mick Barton thanked her personally, promising it'll raise network standards and deliver broader benefits like permanent pothole squads, and JCB machines rolling out soon.

Meanwhile, this follows debates over another 19 million pounds pot.
