Football is finally back and this is the time of year when I probably have more action going than any other point on the calendar. That's why I like my bookie. So folks, welcome back to all in Texas football. Welcome back to the clubhouse. I'm like time longhorn ride, babies, please be joined by the S and full Jerry Hamilton. Yes, and I would get my man joined scrubs joining us as well. It's going to be a nice show today. But of course, we all got, you know, we got some stars on the show, but of course you are the star of the show. Whatever you guys want to talk about, throw it out there. We're going to talk about the game now that we've had 24 hours to digest everything for the Texas football team in 2026. All right, let's get right into it. We also have a voicemail. I want to throw this out there because we will be playing voicemails. We're going to talk about the game now that we've had 24 hours to digest everything for the Texas football team in 2026. All right. Let's get right into it. We also have a voicemail. I want to throw this out there because we will be playing voicemails on this show. Matter of fact, I think Matthew is trying to make it something we do on all the nice
time last year. All in, calling. It is a calling. All right. Now, we have to make it a voicemail just because we don't want to get canceled and we don't want anybody getting trouble. So we do got to screen a little bit, but 512-766-849-1. All right. Now, just so you know, if the call is good enough, we'll put it on the show. All right. What are you wrong, we should say? Have a take. That's all we care about. Have a take. Don't suck. And we want the people. I remember Jim Harball used to call him to his show, was in the smack off. That was. That's when you knew Harball was a little different, man. Yeah. That was beautiful. I remember them days. So we want the people and shout out to Matthew, shout out to CJ, because I think this is kind of their brain child. But we want the people to have a voice on on Texas football. So this is the way for you to do it. Also the Superchats and the Chat Line throw it out there as well. All right. So I'm going to dive into any of those those voice mills. I think we got one already ready to go. Let's talk about the game, gentlemen. I'm hype. I got done with my second rewatch of it. I'm going to third rewatch. I usually have to divide up watching routes and receivers and the coverages and then got
to go watch trench play. I can't do it the same time. I don't see how coaches do that. But Jerry, I'll start with you. Now that we are, you know, one day removed from Lone Horn's old school, but with an old Texas state. What stood out to you? What's most compelling? Do you have any concerns right now going into the house day game? Yeah. I think there's some areas in the secondary and in a linebacker that I think a quality opponent with really good players can try to get at. I absolutely do. My first thing I want to say about the game. I was literally told last night that it was a second day install. That's how vanilla this was. It was pretty much like second day install level vanilla on offense defense special teams. But here's the thing. What does that mean on Saturday? It doesn't mean a dang thing. Because so how state was two? Yeah. Like there's a big unknown with both of these teams. They didn't have Clemson. Notre Dame's playing Wisconsin right now. Ole Miss is playing some people having to bring out some of their stuff already and she
brought it all out and Ole Miss is having to bring it all out tonight. Texas and Ohio State wasn't that. So there's a big element of unknown with both of these teams right now. So when you look at just what you saw on Saturday and on the field. Look I think the talent at Widers' Seaver is just as advertised. If that was your first look at it. I think Hollywood's mother is your best running back. Running back. Lake Brown pass catcher. Maybe the all around guy. Hollywood's mother's catch is it too. I think he's your best running back on this team. I gave the offensive line and it wasn't anything negative. I gave him an incomplete. Because when we're talking to Jeff and CJ here's the reason why. Texas State had no pass rush. They didn't have a single guy rushing the passer. That's the level of guys Texas will see throughout the season. So what we can say is the tide incident a great job blocking.
I like the physicality of the Texas offensive line when they played with the light box and they had a hat on a hat. Then obviously Texas State had to adjust that. But there's so much unknowns with Ohio State in Texas right now outside of the talent that you see. But I like there's a lot of things I like. I really like Spencer Shannon and Nick Townsend Block and I like how arch and saw the ball of the tide ends. Yeah. There are a lot of things defensively. I mean they didn't believe bullets were him files once. That's probably the only game this year that's going to happen. That's how vanilla that game was. But if I'm looking at it and I say okay against the Ohio State if you just look at Texas talent or we've talked about this before. The other safety spot until it proves itself out. Cade Philips is going to get tested in a strong side linebacker if you can get him into a matchup in coverage. I think those are my areas or Texas in this game where I think Ohio State is going to
try to get it them. I watch Ohio State ball state today and I know we'll get into both of their tackles. Could struggle with Texas past rush athleticism. Their tackles the left tackle even got into a little waist bend deal against ball state and I was like that's death. Their tackles I think their offensive line is maybe their weak spot right now. On that team based on what I watch. The Texas offensive line will be pressed in pass pro Saturday though. Can you add a Jackson get after the quarterback? They have multiple guys we can get into some of it but both of these offensive lines are going to be tested way more than they were against Texas state and ball state. All right. And join whether you're thoughts about it now looking back on it probably after you're rewatched and I do have chance to process everything for the long ones. Yeah. Jerry hit on a lot of the things I was on the say but wanted to bring up the run game. I see you had a really good story on that.
Go check that out on on Texas football.com but outside of the opening play that I believe went 42 yards with Hollywood smothers. There are only two of the runs north of 10 yards. So versus Texas state that's not something that really gives you confidence going forward because you know considering that's probably the worst defense they're going to play. It's Texas state or UTSA in week three. That definitely gives me some concern. I did like what I saw from Warren Seymour and Dylan Sikorsky. I haven't been able to go back into a full rewatch but from the first watch that Seymour probably was the steadier presence down to down compared to Sikorsky and then really just the run game. That really stood out to me. The turnovers, the force turnovers I think were really important. Reheim vials with a punch out. The other one he had. Everyone flying around being aggressive. Kobe Black looks natural at safety. What we saw at corner. He obviously had a big hit there. Jolani McDonald I thought played really well.
Built on the season yet last year. So I can't wait to see Saturday. This is a game everyone's been looking forward to since he's put on the schedule. And yeah, can't wait to see it. Yeah, I mean, it's I think the offense looked explosive. Right. I think the big thing we weren't explosive plays and the offense looked explosive. I believe they ended up with what was I mean, eight plays maybe of 20 plus yards, I believe overall. But it looked like an explosive offense and even on the ground too. Like you said, they didn't you didn't want the you didn't have the consistent push in the run game that you wanted all game long, but you did get your flashes of man, they could pop the big one at any time. That's they were lacking last year. I don't know if you'll end up getting I know long when fans won't know this this old line of look like the old five or you can just run the ball at wheel against anybody. I don't know if Steve sir keys is offense is meant for that. No, to do to do producing generate isn't you still I believe if I'm not mistaken, you
still had 10 runs. There was stuff for zero yards or negative yards. That's just kind of how it starts offense. I know you don't want to hear that, but it's all but the difference is this group is going to generate some pop some big explosive runs on top of that. And what you hope is that you start limiting the amount of a stuff runs and you know, you start getting more and more explosive place, but here's what I thought was so compelling because arch played really well. And I thought it was Sark's ability early on to get arch in a rhythm in a group because he started out hot and he just kind of looked confident the entire rest of the game. And one of the things I noticed was the lack of play action passes and RPOs early. A lot of the early I want to say like six out of your first seven passes with straight dropbacks. Trying to because that's one of the things that he's really good at. He's actually really good at just straight dropback eliminating. He's turning his back to the defense with play. I always talk to play quarterback. It makes perfect sense.
Yep. Instead of the sleight of hand with you know the RPO game and then having to get back on he's just good just straight dropback and Sark led him with straight dropback. Also we've complained of critique if you will a lot of us. His lack of accuracy and quick game right. Lack of actually throwing throwing crossing routes. Lack of accuracy throwing slant route the quick out. How many of those did you see early? Sark can eliminate a lot of how many crossing routes did they see? That's how vanilla it was. That's how vanilla was. Exactly. It was very straight install level is what I was told. Yeah, it's a union even. It's really see like the big over unders and the crossing routes. They know each other. But maybe I said it could have been by design or by just by being a vanilla. But I did I do think Sark now has a better understanding of his quarterback and how to get him in the rhythm. The place that he likes. The place that get him going. The concepts that he's confident in throwing. I think that's going to make a huge difference. I felt like I saw that watching the film. I've heard Jerry very vanilla on both sides of the football for Sark and for much
champ. But hey, the defense course from turnovers to me. That was the story that thing that translated and continue to be consistent from the spring to off seasons of training camp. This defense is going to force turnovers and get takeaways. And that shouldn't be a shot. That was actually my prediction for the defense going into the season because last year they led the SEC intake boys. Led the SEC intake boys in 2024. This even I don't know we complimenting PK here and that's something we don't do very often. But that was something his defense did really well. That I think that it continued to showcase under most champ because that's one of his identifying traits as a defense coordinator. And by the way, Raheem Biles. Dude. Rob, that was the thing about the tone. He's really good. Yeah. Which last time you saw somebody punch a football out. We see from the front. From the hand shoulder face to face joy like he's about to fight this dude. He's like, he actually he punched the football before he made contact with the new.
Yeah. Who does that? Who punches a football out? You may contact. Imagine how many times he's insurance is it one size fits all. That's why drivers have enjoyed progressives. Try that in practice and the fist connects with other balls and not the football. Or he's punching someone in the abs or whatnot like that can't feel good. Also for him is he wearing padded gloves in case he misses. How does that work? I don't know. But one thing you're talking about how vanilla the offense was and you know it obviously was Ohio State did the same thing and you brought up how many zero yard rushes there
were Rod. I don't know how good of an idea it is to run Relic Brown Hollywood smothers to sub 510 guys on the goal line on third and one. How's that going to work? You're playing the SEC and you're playing LSU who has you know 5 6 deep NFL players at detackle. Like how is this going to work and with Derek Cooper is he going to be ready to go by the end of the season where he becomes the goal line back or is this Steve Sarkeesian being vanilla with it and the archmanning son of be that guy and in the moments when it's needed because you know he is still 6 4 2 30 ish pounds whatever he is at the end of the day that's hard to get to the ground that's hard to stop. I'm really curious what the short area running game will look like because I mean how long has that been an issue for Steve Sarkeesian in year 6 now how many times could anyone have looked at the Texas Red Zone offense or even just short down a distance offense and said hey they're going to get the first no matter what they're going to get in the end of them no matter what I don't know if I've ever felt that watching Texas in the sarke
era you know so I'm curious is that going to be archmanning could it be Derek Cooper could it be Michael Terry I don't know but I don't think your most efficient option is giving the ball to either you are be one or are be two as good as they are they still are you know sub 5 10 and you know no way that much so that's a development I'm really interested to follow throughout the year. One of those situations I mean they brought that's when they brought in Derek Cooper right one of those power situations short yardage but everybody know on the football they brought him in he did a good job but you're I mean close B. John and Rojo that's been in the issue post B. John Rojo was on issue just handed out to put some B. John on the way to side of Rojo but I really just since then it has been an issue and yeah I think last game they may have they were successful in those power situations I think for the most part their issues came I think on early downs having having negative place that's actually that if you look at the yardage to gain on third down the average yards to get on third down we talked about this on the post game it was actually 6.7.
Would you think that's wow how's that possible considering but they got a lot of explosive plays early so that just chunk yardage plays all right so you don't you don't need double digit play drives to get down the field and they had like I said like 10 plays where they got no yards or lost yards and so you end up you know with a long situation so all right before we will get to the other questions and I promise we'll get to the boys meadows well I promise you because I can't wait to get to the voicemail it's going to be great and keep on you guys keep them come because we're going to try to play as many of them as we can but let's first think our sponsor let's think our friends over at prize picks before we dive into things America's number one sports picks after honestly it's about as simple as it gets nobody does it better for player picks it's really really easy you picking more or less on a few player stats you lock it in and that's it but if you're interested in picking teams instead of players you can do that as well that's really really easy all you got to do is you can pick you know the winner on spread totals on games you
can fight if you would like prize picks available in most states including the great state of Texas California in Florida so chance so you can jump in right now one of the best features is that now you can follow picks on the app very easily you can just follow your friends picks to that's really fun and the best part is now they got a great deal for you what they always got great deals here's an even better deal of five dollars you play your first five dollar on a few and if you win you'll get a hundred and fifty dollars in bonus line up just make sure you use the code hma when you sign up they actually update the office or not it's a great time to take advantage download the prize picks app today use the code hma play the first five dollar lineup and if you win you'll get a hundred and fifty dollars in bonus line up as prize picks code hma good luck as always play smart player responsibly played prize picks thank you very much to our friends over at prize picks all right let's dive into super chats first and they will get to some of the other voice smells all right ones up first thank you one for the super chat okay Jared two questions wants us who replaces Davo and Clemson and LSU looks good what do you think of Kiffin's
comments have time maybe you at the end all right yeah you got a kiffin's a good troll I feel like a good troll you know that rod by the way I you know I think people are sitting there saying oh Clemson's gonna go two and ten there's some terrible team I'm gonna remind and I don't think they're a plough team don't get me wrong I think they if they go to the young quarterback as long as they stay engaged and it doesn't get too negative around there they'll probably go seven and five or six and six but because they still have talent people act like they do but I want to remind people of this real quick on that it's like some people I think forget about games in the past two years ago Clemson with K club that played George in Atlanta and and they got beat just as bad in a different way so I I'm this is for the people that say oh LSU's not that good Clemson was horrible well Georgia beat Clemson 3432 years ago Clemson had 120 yards in the game until the last drive with K club 120 yards with like four minutes to go in the game and Georgia called
off the dogs you know on defense a little bit they went on to make a college football play Clemson's not that good but Clemson's not some two and ten team they're better than that they have better talent than that they got Molly Wap would shed the unbelievable environment by team that I think looks as talented as any in the country after watching LSU there's talent that is Texas there's talent that isn't Miami there's talent that is Notre Dame who's playing they're really talented they're really good on defense their secondary's legit good because Clemson's got two NFL receivers you wouldn't know that last night who replaces dabbo at Clemson when that eventually happens and it's getting their quicker because he is not adapt or die and now he's going to die that's a good question it's a it's a desirable job they they will put money behind it it's a great college football environment it's in a great area to recruit in it'll be interesting where they go when that time comes but they'll probably have some people interested in that job and they can pay very well they'll probably
have some people interested in that job that might surprise folks that's a good job I mean you're two and a half hours from the talent in Atlanta Georgia can only take so many you can compete from an NIL space they Clemson's recruit the state of Florida well they can get into the Carolina's obviously and recruit that well they can go up to DMV and compete that's a really good job and dabbo is not adapting to the changes in college football is what's going to end up being his undoing but that's a good job somebody's going to walk that job and think they can do really good things as long as the financial support is behind them there because you can get good players I mean look at all the NFL guys dabbo out there and they're really good out of Florida and Georgia you're in you're in one of the best areas to recruit in America that's a job people will want I don't think Venables will leave oh you is all my moderate to go there but he's still at Oklahoma and is still you know having some good seasons they're going to make a push for him and listen to this
Clemson from 2011 to 2020 lost 18 games since the start of the 2021 season they've lost 21 and they're four and six in their last 10 games for his ranked opponents prior to that they were 28 of 36 like then fall off has been real and also the last thing on the coaching thing the Andre Hopkins is now like an analyst assistant at Georgia Tech I don't exactly know what he's doing but if he stays in the coaching world and keeps moving up because let's be real this thing with dabbo and Clemson is going to go way longer than it should like he should be fired sooner than later for the sake of that program but I bet it's going to go on like Mac Brown and Texas at the end where it just gets ugly eventually there at the band-aid we're five six years down the road and yandra Hopkins has kind of gone up the totem pole in the coaching world he could be a coordinator or something for that new Clemson staff potentially because we'll be able to recruit kids they know who he is and I mean it's his alma mater so I could see that kind of happening but
Clemson is probably not going to think outside the box like that hmm it's good stuff all right good stuff gentlemen thank you for the stupid cat all right before we get back to the other super chats I want to dive into the voicemails I'm excited about the poster yes all right here we go Matthew's already got it ready and Tito here's our first one of the evening here's the the OTF clubhouse voicemail here you go what's up guys this is Andrew Hughes and Greenville Texas and I'm working on as many Modellos as touchdowns scored yesterday we and buddy were just talking about this camp gomen is entire at least all last year at the Auburn at five touchdowns then two yesterday so I'm setting the overrunner I think I made you a ten touchdowns for camcoman ten ten to have wherever you set a line on that also how many touchdowns he got scored a national championship game limit out thanks ten touchdown was a 10
to half thank you for that that call to we're pretty I think you'll get I think you'll get 11 12 with a healthy regular say I'm saying regular season anytime I throw a number out that's a regular season I think he's gonna go over that number slightly no I agree I'm actually I feel confident actually he'll go over that number what about you Jordan I mean I I feel like the line should almost be higher to make it kind of a question I'm the same way I feel confident then as well yeah double did I mean considering you know what the number one receiver at least a history of the number one receiver and what production we see for a number of receiver at Texas in the Sark offense I'm confident he'll get there in that respect but also the combination of him and Wingo because Wingo I feel like we got to talk about him we're talking about receivers too both of these guys have kind of supercharged each other the presence of each of them and if Sarkin used them correctly and I think we all agree he can both of them can really I mean both these guys can eat in this offense and I do think it there is some merit to the Ryan Wingo could
lead you in receiving yards like you saw in the game and then Camcone could be the guy that scores the most touchdowns because in the red zone you start thinking more and more about Camcone and how to you know force feed him the football and how to scheme him open so yeah how about that first touchdown that Texas state DB kind of tripping over himself he didn't want to get put on the poster the first first study of the game huh nervous he was I mean I trust as a DB I've seen it I've been that guy I never give it up a touchdown because I lost my feet but I lost my feet because and he he was nervous he knew they were cuz he knew that's why he's got so nervous he was like oh man Camcone red zone coach been talking about this all week Camcone red zone Camcone red zone be ready Camcone red zone and he did yeah yeah two nervous man got you know it's just like when we're at high school games to see the four five star receiver in the corner that's guarding him is some regular regular athlete who will be you know selling insurance or something five years
and just the fear in their eyes for four quarters and even in warm-ups you see them looking over and it's like oh god I see that every week like it it is interesting and that is always an interesting part of it but also whenever there's kids that you know I can play a text I'm a text level guy they're screwing me they have an offer well no one else is offered you because you're not a recruitable prospect and then they show up to other camps where there are the camcone's or other thing and they realize there's levels to it so that reminded me a lot of what Friday night lights look like was that first time yeah yeah I agree that's it was too easy I mean I have to be sure Camcone was like what's going on here I'm surprised he didn't drop it because he was like what you tell it is like playing pitch and catch out there I brought a question for you real quick I watched Ohio State Ball State as much as you could right you can't do it at the same time you can't work it all in but we had game day Austin I think the nickel is going to be the most
important secondary player everybody's going to look at corner because of Jeremiah Smith I think the nickel is going to be the most important spot in the secondary for Texas I saw them repeatedly and you've seen them this do do this before run Smith on a straight stopper out corner obviously bites then they run post corner they run a corner out flag route right behind a little smash concept little smash concept right behind it and and Devon McEwen from Jacksonville can fly out run yeah he was he I couldn't believe nobody offered him out of high school with the semen at Jacksonville the do can fly out run he'll he'll run in the probably mid high four threes at the NFL combine in a few months I think that nickel spot is going to be huge in this game grace and little than that a great game last year you get I think he's got to have a really good game again yeah all the eyes are going to go to Jeremiah Smith everybody's going to be talking about Jeremiah Smith and they will Jeremiah Smith will get his catches and yards in this game he won't go three in a row
with nothing that's not going to happen but it's going to be how they decoy him and how they try to work others in Chris Henry still a young player Devon McEwen is an experienced player and he fit like a glove in that opener for them with what they do and that carnell tables that last year right it was like end up being the car deal tape show it right oh Jeremiah Smith is going to go off he ended up getting a lot of I think run early but then ended up carnell tape made the most place get a sex so I'm with I think they'll I think they'll go out the cage Phillips too I think no yeah we Phillips I do think that's just because he's a young player you don't have a consistent sample of him being oh the guy and who knows I mean they they made it decide I mean they know Bo Maska they played it so yeah she had a really good game because I'll say last year might be this best game of the season so no that's interesting guy I like what Grayson Lodson has got what he brings to the table the question is in man coverage because much champs going to play some man I think that's pretty obvious even in this matchup you had him playing
you know probably more way more man than Lohan fans are used to in that match versus tech to state I think they'll continue in the match versus Ohio State when they get Texas when they can identify Texas is in man coverage and it's not them rolling the safety over the top or them rolling coverage that way and it's genuine man to man can Texas win I just have to win on the edges in this game against the offensive tackles otherwise we'll must-shamp will may have to put himself in some I unideal blitzing situations because the one thing they have to do they got to get say an off his landmarks because he's got to get that's the number one key to the whole game is you cannot let him sit and step into throws and the pocketies way too accurate way too edges I think Ohio State's tackles are susceptible to really good pass rush based on just watching the ball state game watching how those guys reacted with their bodies and feet not saying they're not good players so how to stay but they've had better yeah if Texas can get after them in the pass rush with
four enough must-shamp won't I think will can cover himself a little bit more broad it's where he's not out putting guys on an island too much in bad situations because then if you don't get home you're gonna get dotted now the question is do they decide to go with a more efficient quick or passing game whether or not going down field vertical throws so that they can insulate the pass protection because Texas you have a lot of test a ton of organic pressure versus Texas state but that's this expected because Texas state's getting the ball out really really fast yep you need the ball out quickly with an accurate quarterback and kind of nullify a lot of that the the pass rush and I wonder if they'll go with that early on to frustrate must-champ for some in the all you know what I'm sitting more guys in more guy all right you know what boom here we got a true one on one so it's gonna be a great chess match between between two unknowns right now because the must-champ defense they're relatively unknown the Arthur Smith version of Ryan Day's offense still relatively unknown for a house state what I'm really curious to see and this is both sides
the ball for both teams Texas running backs versus Ohio State linebackers and specifically in the passing orville Reese and uh sunny styles eight up a lot of the snaps last year these guys are young they're inexperienced and they're having to guard you know make you miss in a foam blue type guys and Hollywood smothers relief round on the flip side of that Ohio State uh their main running back his bow Jackson no relation to the bow Jackson uh who is a very good college player I think all around he saw it but the one guy that I think it potentially be a game breaker for them is legend bay yes he's a true freshman and no they're not going to give him 10 touches but think back to the Texas Ohio State cotton bowl in Arlington uh I believe Texas scored not once but twice on a wheel routes from Jaden blue yeah you can make a huge impact in just a few touches and thinking about what the weaknesses are on this team past coverage from the linebackers is one of those things in my opinion and having legend bay running Texas routes or wheel routes out of the backfield really
scares me with that because again I do think that is kind of one of the weaknesses of the team so how much are they going to truck us out of outside of all yeah correct correct yeah uh thank you for clarifying that I shouldn't but with legend bay I mean is Arthur Smith going to give him 10 touches like I said no but I do think there could be a unique role for him as kind of a gadget guy in this game that helps them get first downs potentially touchdowns because we saw that with Jaden blue in 2024 no I agree I agree he's he's he's a I mean we talked about your main bishop he's a germane bishop ish tie yes you know I think he'll ask to touch it two three four times a game and one of those is going to be an explosive place on the outside way and he had a great touchdown run I think we might have caught it out of the backfield versus ball state they're already up like 40 points so take it with the grain of salt but I mean this kid went like 10 two or 10 three in high school he could fly he's a high school QB he's Bryson throwers QB for a few years and
there's always been a super fun player so he's a guy I have my own uh that's a great point Jordan and to that is so you great monster like like the one you have because GJ Kenny put um done in the backfield a couple of times and ran that Texas route he was Texas and it was open the first time he ran and I think Alex January got a bad at pass out of it it was actually open I think it was open against uh Grayson Lowellton maybe and the second time they got my man bow mask on it he was actually playing in nickel and they got him on a little Texas angle route and but it was a while receiving the backfield Texas has done that a couple of times too but to your point they were trying to find that matchup of that linebacker potentially on it first time they went at pick route and they actually had the guy open against cry or two so it that I think GJ Kenny saw that as well like hey I'm going to attack the the heart of this coverage see if they can hold up the linebackers all right uh good stuff all right before we get back to super chats we got another voicemail so we're going to get it on this is from I'm just from
Connolly all right so my man Conner here thank you for the voicemail Conner see but he wants to talk about the the upcoming matchup versus Ohio State hey guys Conner see checking in from Indiana I got two questions uh number one Jerry has a game day reached out to you about being the guest teacher for this weekend and my set of question is do y'all have a update on Derek Cooper and we'll leave you ready for the RSA game this weekend if we need him thanks to him to your to answer your first question not all right not all right not all right it's not me yeah but I got to guess it who it will be in Austin maybe not maybe he's on a movie assignment or something I don't know but if it's not my conny I think we'd all be surprised I would say that yeah yeah let's see at that table when it's in Austin if he wants it to be in for Ohio State you would think it would be hey and if it's you know who I bet it is if it's if it's not McConaughey I'm blanking on his name who's the actor for Chad Powers oh yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
okay season two just dropped it's on Ulu which is owned by ESPN's last Disney makes too much sense now you know in island ref share thank you CW yeah in island ref share do they bring VY out for this one based on the Ohio State game and the Netflix the Netflix document and that he's hot right now yeah VY that actually makes a lot of sense considering what just went down and he's got a shetler just one thudex cup again got some candidates KD KD will be in town for this he'll put the jumper down for a couple days and come in the town for this game actually yeah when do I announce it I don't even know the latest is price you you just get it the day of probably not now to win stage takes got a few candidates there no that's interesting yeah now they ain't gonna be Jerry unfortunately one day I think we'll get OTS no chance no chance what was the other part of the cut I'll be the guest picker for central Florida high school football
games in 2029 or something yeah so much more bomb more bomb was actually at the game this he loves he loves it he loves his time at Texas he is a big UT guy it was only there one year but he is a big university I'm guessing he will live in Austin once his playing days are over yeah cuz I from what I I got some folks who I got chance to hang out with they sent me pictures and they said he just hung out with the people for a while during the and like just regular gym pop low one fans hanging out having a good time he didn't know these people he had just met him but he was having a good time so to Jerry's point he seems to be a guy that he loves Austin he's like a true longhorn yeah all right all right let's get to some super chats here before we dive into something I'm excited so he he uh believe it was Connor also asked about Derek Cooper yes yes yes injury I feel be good to go I can't remember did Sarc say anything about that in the post no no we behind the scenes we expect him to be okay is that mean he's playing just nothing season ending that we're hearing as it right now look anything can change with this but we've
heard it's it's nothing like that the question is how soon does he return to practice I think it's gonna be the key there Trevor Bruce be worked his way in the more snaps and expected throughout the week so we'll see I'll do but this is you know the interesting thing is and that's really unfortunate for Cooper because that was a big he was gonna get 12-15 carries in that game he was gonna get a lot of experience yeah now he goes in no how it stayed even if he's ready to go with two touches no pass pros no routes run no audible's at the line of scrimmage no you got to pick up this guy you got to chip this guy he missed some valuable experience this Saturday and this is an experience game yeah and this is one of those schedules where you don't get a lot of games where you can put guys in and feel comfortable as a coach like we'll be all right no matter what happens here you know if we expect growing pains this is not the growing pain schedule all right get him back to the sous-vets at sear one got another one says a bad matchup or
great matchup for Texas against Ohio State it's not a bad matchup no and it's I don't necessarily think it's a great matchup a context Ohio State has so many great players I think Texas has a few advantages against this particular Ohio State squad and that they didn't have last season against battle how state squad and so I think that's the difference for me and who wins the kind of the battle of like the the uncertain element right the the the Arthur Smith factor and the muskamp factor like we don't know them as play callers when the fit hits the shan or at least you know we don't know in this situation against Ohio State and so that'll be interesting because both of those systems are new both of those guys are obviously you know well decorated as play callers but last year the soccer Patricia matchup kind of determined that whole game Texas Ohio State so I think ultimately
it may come down to the Arthur Smith muskamp chess match and who wins that chess match in this game there are some great individual matchups in this game devin sands says versus cam colman is a hellacious corner wider seaver matchup I think devin sands says and then DJ pick it at LSU or the best soft four corners in America both those guys maybe top 10 picks those those guys maybe throw so throw one in there Texas doesn't have Bama who has some tremendous corners and not at Georgia this year they're those maybe the two best matchups individual with like cam colman this year because those guys have size they have linked that plan DJ pickets six four out their playing corner and can jump up cam colman I saw them as that for hills and i school Texas quietly tried to recruit him for a while there's some great matchups Kenyana Jackson against Texas offensive tackles I think Texas has a real I think Colin Simmons has a real advantage in this game
I'm not sure how much Ohio State can leave him one-on-one with the left tackle based on what I saw against ball state Ohio State may have a decision to make there and then again I think a great matchup is going to be Grayson Lillton at nickel because whoever Ohio State throws out there is a future NFL player and Grayson's a future NFL player and if it's Devon McEwen Dev McEwen is almost built like a third down running back he's like 5 10 and a half 190 and he can go he can he can play you have to play through his body and we say after the catch the tough guy definitely play through his body I hate those epic extra big yeah good point Jare um I think too we need to bring up I know everyone always said he wasn't even the best receiver on his own team but they don't have a top five picker receiver anymore yes Devon McEwen whatever's name is is good um I'm blanking on his name the lights can guide
they have who's also from Florida yes good player should get drafted but none of those guys are carnaltate and on the flip side what was a really big touchdown for them when carnaltate pretty much lost in sun jalen gillbo I do think Texas upgraded at the corner position this year from last year and I do think Ohio State might have downgraded so I'll be interested in that I'm already brought up running backs linebackers I think those matchups will be super interesting and then uh Jerry hit on O line D line of both but uh it's not just Kenyatta Jackson too they'll set bow Ackinson the UNC transfer some similarities with Ethan bark there a little bit so um they're going to be interesting I do think though they do not have the depth on the interior line in Texas does like they're they're top two three guys are really good should be draft picks after that there is a drop off so playing in the Texas heat in the fourth quarter if it's a close game curious to see how big of an impact that has on the game I I will say
the Texas center has to be able to anchor John Walker who transferred from UCF I was a teammate of Omasco's at all say oh look is a tremendous bull rush guy he can he can dislodge you um Smith that came over oh I say it's doing something interesting with James Smith I saw him in Montgomery and Kueh Russo they both transferred from uh Al Bamado, Ohio State they line James Smith Smith up as a 295 three-inter pounder in the three point stance or sorry in a two point stance no hand on the ground a couple of times Saturday they are gonna I'm interested to see what all they do they played him off the edge a little bit as a big edge to set the edge against the run um they're going to be interesting uh John we remember named John Walker Connor Robertson's got to anchor well in that game he can bull rush you into the running back and disrupt your run game so Jerry knowing that if you're
Kyle Flutter you starting to warrant see more Dylan Sikorsky um I shouldn't say start I should say giving them the majority of snaps since Sikorsky started to add less snaps and see more on Saturday yeah I don't know I think I think uh I just don't know how healthy see more actually is because he had one job and they plays less than half the snaps Trevor Goosby went out there and played even though he's still not 100 percent so um I don't know I think Sikorsky athletically it will have his work cut out for him in this game yeah all right uh let's get back to the super chats thank you for that one uh 57 cow thank you for the super chat says uh mostly selling the pass and blocking the DB on his break for a lead second touchdown was so smooth uh he says a DB was on the floor looking for OP hour a leak ran by um no relief round is he's twitchy man you can tell like he's got he's explosive um but
there's it's clear that kileywood smothers is more compatible with Texas run game identity overall but it's it's a beautiful thing that they have a one two punch and they can go on there and my hope is that you know they end up carving out certain roles and it seems like I mean we'll see what how it was fun it was good in the uh pass game too um but relief round is explosive man he's gonna have explosive plays I can tell you that right now okay that's one he maybe and jane blue was kind of like that at times too where you know yeah he may get tackled for a loss or he may get you know tackled a line of screaming a couple of times but if you gave it to him about five times he was going break one maybe even two like he was just that's why you have to force feed him the football a certain number of times and I feel like relief rounds gonna be that guy in the office he's not gonna be as consistent as Hollywood smothers yeah yeah but mostly um as my favorite mostly played was something because at 18 yard uh reception that he had from it might
have been a scramble drill throw from arch these guys are getting really good at adjusting when arch moves in a pocket too gotta go watch the receipt they're getting really good and savvy at that mostly might be one of the best at a wing goal was really good at in this in this game there were a few play one of them got called back when we were the the long one where he's originally the screen guy and then arched from another pocket they called it back for holding but he scrambles and throws it to him on the fly almost a v-wire like play the scramble drill with these guys you can tell they've been practicing the scramble drill uh with that so yeah I do love mostly playing we played grace kind of the unsung hero of considering cam comb and a rine wingo we got I mean it's a embarrassment of riches out there while I receive it right now pretty much all right thank you uh for that uh 57-k战友 appreciate it uh done tame the cloud says uh Jerry you got your wish kill the place so spedic and kick it didn't it didn't exactly go how I thought but uh I literally would I was saying I'd run the vault the middle a couple times and sinner
let's sped it get a kick before I'll stay and 100% believe that I almost would have done the same thing with the punter and I know people hate that but I mean look it's important it's important you know a shank pot a misfeel goal at the end if you feel all the pressure you've never made it attempted a kick in DKR as a Texas longhorn and never attempted a kick with 110,000 and everything on the line maybe if it comes down that I'm not saying it is we know how the game's actually going to go but that's a high leverage situation and I was glad spedic got a kick um KT came out a little lower couple times by the way uh for off his foot nothing to do with the the exchange or anything like that so I think he's got to get it up a little quicker at times uh but yeah I was good to see I like spedic getting the uh feel goal under his belt he's got big leg all right uh thank you for the uh super chat they appreciate that one next up is Justin thank you Justin for the super chat good here from you he says uh Jerry I agree with you at a linebacker
but for the secondary with ms champ and gideon I can't help but think they will solidify that group love the physicality on both sides of the ball so far uh thanks for the super chat uh they're Justin um about linebacker uh he says he agrees you a linebacker but for the but for the secondary and ms champ and gideon so what are you talking about about a linebacker what's he agree with you about I'm not sure um I'm not sure we're talking about oh I think he means going after strong side backering coverage if Ohio State can get up into that time yeah yeah Jordan was talking about it we can cry right not vials but the other guys see think get him uh match it oh yeah let me second but I think with the second Texas will get it Texas will get it figured out how they want to get it figured out it's just are they there in week two probably not they're still you know these guys Kobe Blacks had how many snaps in Sanctinus career now I think he had 36 or something in this game I got 36 I mean he's got 36 and it was against Texas State yeah 38
all right I got to make 38 38 and that's against Texas State yeah they're still experienced that has to be had here against really good players um so that's that's all I'm saying Kate Phillips is still a young corner both masco has a ton of snaps under his belt rock prize a number it's probably over a thousand yeah yeah the opposite corner under his belt yeah so Kate Phillips doesn't have even close to that so there's some guys that you know you're gonna you're gonna test you're gonna test those guys and and see how they react to uh a leverage situation against Ohio State NFL athletes lined up across from I mean or in a future NFL draft ticket corner looking them off and putting them in a position to not be able to uh make the play that they where they need to be you know and so I think those things just come with experience so Texas will get them there are they're gonna be their game too broad as a question in high leverage situations their experience matters yeah all right this and look in mellows in the chat is is is talented as a Chris Henry is
experienced matters I mean these guys all they still gotta go they still gotta with their experience on the field and the one thing about all the players that were new players at a position or freshman or first time starter they didn't against ball state and Texas state they didn't play any high leverage situations now they go into a game Saturday on both sides in a young players or an experienced players it's gonna be a raucous environment maybe not LSU but it's gonna be a raucous environment it'll probably be similar to Alabama in 2022 but now at night that's still a different situation than a lot of these kids and kids and guys have played uh played in it's talented as they are so that's kind of rod on the busted coverage a mistake you you know you get jumpy with your eyes right there's so many things that can happen a wide receiver who is gonna be a first round or maybe drops a pass on third and four that he wouldn't drop again the rest of his career there's so many things that can happen while you work through the experience of of all this
my two biggest questions on in the secondary were the safety spot opposite jelana McDonald I'll say based on the play of Kobe Black and the way he looks they want to emphasize coverage there I think that's why they wanted to make sure and the one question we had about Kobe Black was could he be physical enough well I answered it with a resounding hell yes he could be physical enough and as long as he can take good angles to the football as an alley cat from to play the run from depth at safety he's he's close to answering most of the questions you need to answer at safety um and then you know you got Derek Williams who can do it but I don't think he's the coverage specialist that a guy like Kobe Black is at that safety spot so that to me makes me feel a lot better because I wasn't sure what the what the plan was gonna be at the safety spots if they like Kobe Black there it tells me they want guys that can cover back there none against Eric Williams but he's not the coverage player that Kobe Black is and jelana Williams isn't right now either but jelana Williams actually played really well um I would make a watch till my thought he played really
well I think by mid season he he may be ready to make a move kind of how cage Phillips if he stays healthy kind of how cage Phillips did last year they make that move late in the season when everything slows down for him uh so but I they're gonna attack cage Phillips I would say right now oh house is gonna go after young cage Phillips and they should yeah but I can be up to the task and they only will because they know he's gonna be there in certain situation where they know he's gonna be a man go back and watch him a lot of times when you're out when they were opposite in most champs system opposite that uh multiple receiver side if you can isolate aside three by one a lot of the time they got into a playing man coverage press man and I wonder if you'll make it that obvious against Ohio say because if it's that obvious and you're like well you can you just guarantee man coverage there's no way that's gonna be the case they're gonna be rolled with the safety over this germ i smid or doing something that based on the personnel but it was kind of that simple versus versus sex and state they were didn't care who knew it either um all right let's get back to the uh superchats here uh one with another one what's up one thank you for the superchat says uh kidney
dealing ham would be a great hire for Clemson that is a dad actually agree with that yeah I like I like kidney killing him a lot um hope you guys hope you guys is hope you guys is best game a Saturday by the way um you know again Clemson's gonna be interesting I mean I um it's an unknown where that person would come from now because the job's gonna open in the next couple years I think it's headed that direction and Davos just not adapting and he's gonna go down with the ship not adapting it sure seems like I don't I expect him to go sign 30 portal players in January I just don't um but it'll be it'll be very interesting to see where that actually goes is kidney dealing ham the next coach at USC he's a west coast guy he's from Scottsdale I mean that's kind of when I've always kind of had circled for him if he continues to win at a high enough clip that USC would be a really good spot for him and he fit in really well there we've got Garrett Patterson now man
Garrett Patterson gonna save it for a little bit he's good GP there he's good all right I trust in I can't believe I'm gonna say this but how much better of a job is Clemson than Arizona state nowadays because you're in the big 12 of the ACC your path to the plough is easier in the big 12 Arizona states never gonna have more money than tech in the ACC Clemson isn't gonna have more money than Miami or Florida State how's that gonna work I think from a talent perspective it's much better no doubt in the area you have to recruit is better yeah can he dealing him I don't think his like he's never been on the east coast or now I see him as the next coach at USC or organ he's always complaining about the money at Arizona state though he can buy yeah he's always all complaining about the lot of money at Arizona state so that's why I'm gonna give Clemson the nod because he've already won some championships and at yeah at least they're not complaining about the money as much he's constantly every every other clip I see
if kidney billy-havn he's begging for some money and talking about money here's the name and and another guy that is always complaining about money what if James Franklin gets Virginia tech rolling they will that has some he seems like a guy that could fit at Clemson kind of you know I don't know but also if I'm the Clemson brass I'm like trying to get rid of everything from the dabbo arrow yes one a lot of games and stuff but just new fresh slate someone that's kind of an outsider that is not from the dabbo tree or whatnot I think that'd be really refreshing for them in their fan base yeah that's a good point I agree that I know it's crazy everybody's already writing the you know the old bit if you will for you know for Clemson and dabbo but dabbo like you say he won't he's kind of like Mike Gundy damn good coach yeah everybody knows that but if you're not going to dab to the new arrow kind of sports then you might you're gonna extend yeah you're gonna extend that one point all right it was say by the way it was it was the absolute
worst case scenario for dabbo last night because he went up against the guy that is the most portal heavy oh yeah really good players of anybody that just got a job like it was the worst person to play in the worst outcome I agree that like a Clemson fans are like we got embarrassed because we won't go to the portal and this guy just brought in 60 new players after getting that lsu job he tried to get the ability to compete for some of those players in the portal and he won't even do it he won't NFL players Jerry he went past just getting portal players I want the guys who don't have a shot in the league they steal better than most of the college players I'll take those guys like he even thought about that so yeah he's he's definitely progressive you can say that about Lane kiffy I guess that maybe the best compliment I can give him all right let's get out we got one more super chat and let's dive into this one again we'll get to the end of things how this is from a drove Franko thank you for the super chat he drove says we will not win a big
game until we can run the ball consistently for 46 yards look back at Michigan and Alabama game now that the biggest complaint arguably I've heard from long wind fans just in you know the day in a half since the game is that they did not like the lack of consistency in the running game they say pop that said you got some explosive runs and you got like five explosive runs or 10 plus yards but you didn't have the consistency like I said you had 10 yards 10 irons using there were stuffed for zero or negative yards and so that's that's not consistent that's you know you flashed but you didn't you didn't play you didn't get a consistent push in the running game all game long for four quarters and if you couldn't do that versus take to state the concern is well how the hell you supposed to do that versus Ohio State you know oh oh oh go home and all that but I will say Ohio State last year you did run for 160 I still don't know how it happened but that is the
question that is the question it has to be proven out it can the run scheme get over the top because you know look and it's not what's traditionally won in the SEC or really in college well the way Texas has their scheme right rod and their go to use yeah it's not what's can it's not what's hoisted trophies no so that's the question because didn't you know last night with Elaine Kiffin what they run power they ran a bunch of power downhill now they have variation off of it but they were more smash mouth out from yeah but they're all kinds of line and so you know I think Lane's adapted a little bit they came from the same tree Lane's adapted his scheme and the run game made it more college friendly I would say in the past game at times too so that's really going to be the question for me is can start me the first guy that really win with this
type of run scheme at the highest level meaning hoisted big trophy yeah it's not traditionally what's done it no he is running more power though and I'm not gonna try more yeah gap and power schemes lately because I do think he notices that trend too Jerry but this this backfield is probably more suited to hit the outside zone and those perimeter gaps on the outside good stuff all right before we in things and thank a couple of more sponsors we appreciate all the super chats as well but less than comes rather Jerry would you do us all the favor and tell our listeners and our viewers about the fine folks over at shields shields doors are open in cedar park they open up August 29th we're now a few days into it on Texas football we'll have our pregame show it around 10 a.m. on Saturday at shields in cedar park it's like nothing you've ever seen over 300,000 square feet packed the best sporting goods hunting fishing camping hiking and all things sports try top brands
