Your host here five days a week and coming up on today's episode, sweating out a 106 pick
gap was very difficult in this week's mock draft Monday.
But we do come away with Jagger Burton out of it, making it a little bit worth it.
And while we didn't land the top corner in the draft, we gave Toronto Jones some size
to work with on the outside.
But first letting the board decide itself was also a gamble that we took this week, but
it worked out for the best in the end.
All that coming up on today's episode of locked on commanders part of the locked on podcast.

This week's mock draft Monday post free agency mock draft Monday and every day is if
you've been here through the entire off season, I think what you're going to find with our
post free agency, mock drafts.
So I hope we find with our post for agency mock drafts is that our first one is likely
not going to be the best one.
Like I always say, mock drafts are not about nailing it every single time, getting every
single pick right and being able to come back to the end of April and say, and I told
you back at that mock draft that the wash commanders were going to draft that guy because
let's be real here.
We do so many mock drafts that patty myself on the back for having a guy in one of these
mock drafts, not really the victory lap that we might say that it is.
Now, when we get to our top commanders focus prospects big board later on the off season,
I'll take a little bit more pride in that.
But the idea of mock drafts right is to play out the what if scenarios in the off season.
So we played out a lot of what if scenarios based off of, well, if they resign this guy,
they don't resign this guy, they trade for that guy.
They bring in this guy, all this kind of stuff.
Here is our first what happens, what could happen, what if following free agency, following
what the wash commanders did in for agency themselves with our first pick number 10.
I will explain all of these moves coming up by the well, car now, tape, wider seabird out
of Ohio State come becomes the first pick in our first mock draft Monday following for
agency.
Chris Johnson corner back at a San Diego state in the second round, then fifth round.
So that's right.
41st overall pick is when we take Chris Johnson and then we wait till the fifth round in
this mock draft brutal, Jager Burton, Jagger Burton, sorry, is who we come away with their
center out of Kentucky, the sixth round, we get trade more, the linebacker out of Texas
and VJ pain, safety out of Kansas state.
And then we wrap it all up with Vincent Anthony Jr. edd rusher out of Duke.
So that is this week's mock draft Monday class.
We get a separation weapon.
We get a corner back to try to train to be able to play on the island.
We get a communicator to move her in the frontline middle potential off ball linebacker
of the future in the later rounds, the center field safety and a big end as well to wrap
up the class.
So what are we operating with here?
As we look at David blouse offense post free agency, you got the additions of Van Jefferson
and the army Brown, who are both going to take up outside receiver roles.
You have to conquer coming in to be that move tight end along with Ben Senate and then
joining John Bates as a wide tight end and try to kind of an inline blocking tight end.
Rashad white and Jerome Ford come in as your third down type backs or seeming top type
backs to join to Corey, to Corey Croskey merit, who could be potentially a lead back
could be that one cut early down back, you know, we'll see how David, David blouse decides
to do it.
But the question marks remain at the center position.
Nick Allegretti penciled in there as a starter because he is the the only, I would say only
yeah, I don't think Sam Cosme has any actual game experience as a center.
So I think Nick Allegretti is the only guy on the roster within game experience at center.
Don't quote me on that because I'm not 100% certain, but definitely the best option
there at the time.
So you come in with a potential need there in this NFL draft.
Obviously, you know, I think a lot of us love the return of the army Brown.
But do you want to lock him in as your number two receiver right now?
No.
So I think the potential going out there and getting a contender to that position, that
starting job is certainly out there.
And we are not going to just put brand and I you on the depth chart.
So again, if and when that day comes before the NFL draft, we will make that move.
But for right now, we're keeping everything as it is in real life.
So those are kind of some of the needs on the offensive side of the ball and the defensive
side of the ball.
I think they did a lot of good things.
But you're still kind of questioning that outside cornerback position.
Is Mikey going to be outside full time?
I mean, Robertson, what's he going to do?
As far as all that's concerned, if Mikey does stay inside, do you try to put him?
Make outside.
We wasn't necessarily as great as he was inside things like that.
You have a lot of good linebacker talent on the roster.
We like Frankie Lubeu, Leo Chanel comes in as well.
You like them as mug linebackers, but do you have a true off ball Mike linebacker, Jordan
McGee?
Is he ready to take that step?
Leo Chanel?
There's been a lot of conversation about whether or not he could be that guy as well.
So maybe adding some talent in that position and then the safety position, you love the
addition of Nick Cross.
He's more of a box safety than he is a cover safety.
You can do a little bit of both, but certainly more fitting, I would say in the box.
So how do you address that safety position, especially with for me, I think Juan Martin
is going to move more towards the line of scrimmage under Dorante Jones, and that pretty
much gives us our needs, right?
So center boundary corner, boundary receiver, Z receiver type, extra receiver type, covers
linebacker and playing the middle of the field and some post safety depth, cover safety
as well.
Thinking of we're starting off this thing, pick number seven, pick 71, 147, 187, 209,
223, a first, a third, a fifth, two, six, and the seventh, which is what the watch commanders
have in real life.
When we come up on the board in the first round, pick number seven, Fernando Mendoza goes
to Las Vegas Raiders, Ruben Bay Jr. off the board, and number two, Jeremiah Love off
the board.
Our Val Risco's to the Titans, sunny style, so the Giants, and Caleb Downs to the Browns.
There's a lot of players that no commanders fans like a whole whole lot, and that's what
the simulator sends in those first six picks.
When we get to pick number seven, Caleb Downs coming off the board, that stings, adding
him with Nick Cross would have been huge.
Obviously, there's a lot of love for a lot of those guys.
And we're at sitting at pick number seven and knowing that we have a gap from seven
to 71.
So if we stay here, the best center is coming off the board.
If you're not taking a wide receiver to here, then you're probably not getting a wide
receiver to because the wide receiver talent kind of falls off a little bit around pick
number 50.
If you take the top corner at 71, you're also not getting one of those real true competitive
corners in day two.
So the situation we're faced with is Mansor Delane, corner back out of LSU, Carnaultate,
wide receiver out of Ohio State, or trade offers.
We're getting calls from the Patriots, the Lions, the Bengals, and other teams.
And I've kind of established already by going through enough of these mock drafts that
15 is the ceiling.
I'm not going to trade past 15 in any mock draft.
I can't just see it happening at all the rest of the time here at any mock draft that
we go through.
You're not going to see any trade past pick number 15, and that is the limit collecting
packages from all these guys looking what they have to offer.
We go with the Cincinnati Bengals.
They give us 10 and 41, so 41 is a second round draft pick, but we have to give them
7 and 71 to make the math work.
And in fact, according to the Rich Hill trade value chart, the Bengals actually pay us
an 18 point tax to get back into the top there earlier into the top 10.
They're already in the top 10, but they're going to pay that tax because they want offensive
tackle.
Francis Maui Goa out of Miami to come and help protect Joe burrow.
So they move up.
Now we move back and picks seven is Maui Goa to the Cincinnati Bengals.
We already knew that was going to happen.
We also have picks eight and nine still coming.
That's the chiefs and that's the Saints.
And there is a risk that they take both those other players, Mansort and Wayne and Carl
Altay.
But if they don't take both those players, we basically let the board sort itself for
us.
Which of the two targets we want?
We want Mansort and Wayne.
We want Carl.
We can't have both of them.
There's no scenario where we get both these guys, but we want both of them.
They both fill a need.
So we'll let the board decide it for us and we'll recoup or we'll move up from the
third round to the second round in the process.
The Bengals, they take Maui Goa, the New Orleans Saints take David Bailey, who would have
been very high on our list.
However, with some of the work the team has done on the edge right now, it's worth kind
of letting it really.
If you look at it with three prospects, Bailey, Delane and Tate, if we're left with
Bailey at 10, that's certainly not the consolation prize that would get me fired.
I wouldn't think it's a GM, but David Bailey, not the main target.
So he goes to the Saints at number nine, the Kansas City Chiefs take Mansort and
Lane, which makes sense because they just lost two really good cornerbacks this
off season, which means that pick number 10.
We take White receiver, Carnell Tate in the first round, Route Technician instantly fills
it at a zero receiver role, opposite of Terry McClaren.
And he gives us the option of potentially developing into our future number one or future
Terry McClaren.
So you solidify that number two position with Carnell Tate and you give yourself the option
with the ability to develop him into your future number one receiver.
I mean, that's a great pick at number 10.
And you move up from the third, you don't add draft capital.
Unfortunately, but you do move up from the third to the second round.
So now you're getting two top 50 picks while you move back and get one of the two top
players that you were sitting on the board number seven.
Again, you don't get Mansort and Lane, but you're not getting both of them either way.
Now we can address or try to address, say the cornerback position in the second round.
If you took Mansort and Lane, say the Chiefs took Carnell Tate and you end up with Mansort
and Lane, then you can essentially address the White receiver position at number 41 either
way with that second round pick, you are better equipped to get a better position in that
second position of need than you were in the first and you still get one of the best
players off the board in the NFL draft at that selection.
So it satisfies both of these best player available and position of need.
Let's get through the middle rounds of this mock draft Monday coming up next on today's

So a lot of fun stuff happening in the everyday club.
So make sure you check that out today, moving forward in our mock draft Monday, however,
we just took carnal dates with the 10th overall pick after executing a trade with the Cincinnati
Bengals to move back mean that we leave cornerback man sort of lane available there at number
nine for the Kansas City Chiefs.
They take advantage of that.
Take him off the board.
What we get our number two receiver of now and we get our future number one receiver
of the future.
I don't know why I said future first, but we got our number one receiver of the future.
So we secure a little bit of today, a little bit of tomorrow.
Now we come back.
We're on the board at number 41.
And what we had hoped for was maybe not a run on the cornerback position to give us a
few options here.
I mean, guys like Jermon McCoy, certainly not going to make it to pick number 41.
We don't expect.
But any beyond Terrell, like a really big slide, potentially, that's definitely like cross
your fingers type of dream, they but Colton Hood with someone that we were looking at
Brandon C say with someone we were looking at.
Unfortunately, they both are they all come off the board.
So at number 41, we got some trade calls.
We got some trade offers from the Vikings, which we strongly considered.
They offered us 49 and 97, which gets us back into the third round for 41 and 187.
The Texans came through, but if we fall back with the Texans, we're definitely missing
on our cornerbacks.
If we stick and pick, we're definitely getting the guy that we want.
We move back to 49, the guy we want could slide, but the guy we want could also get taken,
especially the Vikings.
They're going to run a very similar defense to what we're running in Washington this
year.
Right.
If you're DeRontae Jones in the war room, the Angelo Ponds comes in as the top rated
corner on the PFF big board.
We use the PFF simulator.
However, the Agelo Ponds is five foot nine, 170 pounds.
You already got Mikey Sainter still comes in at five eight five nine.
Yeah, Amique Robertson now comes in at five eight five nine.
So for me, getting three sub five 10 corners on this DeRontae Jones roster that typically
likes to use longer corners, physical corners, things like that.
In a division where you still have AJ Brown has it right now.
Yes.
CD land.
You got George Pickens.
You got Malik neighbors.
Like, it just doesn't make a lot of sense.
So unfortunately, we got to move past the Agelo Ponds.
I love the Angelo Ponds as a prospect in a vacuum, but for this team, this roster, it
just didn't make a lot of sense.
So we do go after a corner, but we take Chris Johnson cornerback out of San Diego State six
foot tall, nearly 200 pounds, fits the island potential profile, right?
Like, I don't, I'm not going to say he's going to come in as a shut down cornerback from
day one does well in zone disguised defenses from his college days has four four speed to
recover.
If he does get beat and cover zero physical tackler, just a 5.6% mistackle rate.
So he has a lot of the tools is he a day one slam dunk boom.
He's going to be a starter right off the bat.
Not necessarily, but he's got a lot of traits, a lot of tools for DeRontae Jones to work
with.
Certainly like the potential.
And again, you can't get Mansort and Laney car and L.T. both, right?
So if we go corner in the first round, Mansort and Lane, you love Mansort and Lane, wide
receiver, you're pretty much looking at the same type of, he's got a lot of tools and
traits, but he's not going to be a boom slam dunk day one type of guy.
So that's where we go, Chris Johnson cornerback out of San Diego State.
And if you look at our trades, that means we sit on the board because we're not going
to be really super aggressive with like trying to trade up and do all those other things.
We sit on the board and so from pick 41 to pick 147, 106 picks, and we already know because
we've done enough of these mock drafts, which is why we do these mock drafts, right?
That a lot of the offensive linemen that we really, really like are coming off about
that third round range, Sam Hecht, 69 overall, Connor Lou, 83rd overall, Jake Slaughter, 91st
overall, Kansas State, Auburn and Florida linemen perspective, respectively coming off
the board.
And we just kind of have to sit there and we don't really have an option, but that's
the price you pay.
You want to go get a blue chipper in the first round.
You want to get a, I don't even know the next color would be, but a solid guy on day
two who could potentially compete for a starting role in year one.
That's the price you got to pay if you're the Washington commanders and a fortune, fortunately
for you, you have a veteran in Nick Allegretti who is not going to be the center of your
future because of age and everything else.
But you do, if you have to ride with him, you know the intelligence, you know the communication
is there, you have the trust level with them, all those things is why he brought him
back, right?
So, 147, we get back on the board.
The gap was tough to watch, obviously, but fortunately for us, Jagger Burton, center
addict and Tucky is sitting there.
He is the 134th ranked player on the big board, but he's sitting there 147 for us to take
and we absolutely take Jagger Burton right off the bat.
Now, we did have a trade offer from the Eagles, which we didn't really consider, like I
said, once I saw Jagger Burton sitting there on the board, I was like, we're going to
take this guy, but let's answer the phones.
The Eagles called, no, no, no, we're not going to do that.
So Jagger Burton elite movement, a second level type of center ran sub five flat 40 at
the NFL scouting combine.
So again, we get a guy who is smart, he's intelligent, he's played the position, he's very athletic,
fits the mold of what a David Blow often is going to want from the center position.
And we get to add to that group.
So we enjoy that pick was worth the weight to a certain extent again, you have some other
guys that you would love certainly, but if you want to get into that top 50 range, that
is a sacrifice you're going to have to make, unfortunately, getting into the sixth and
the seventh rounds, sixth round, pick number 187 linebacker, Trey Moore at a Texas comes
in.
We also consider guys like cold was new ski, a safety, another safety, Bishop Fitzgerald.
We're both guys that we took a look at, but we end up going with the linebacker.
Not expecting him as a six round pick to come in and compete for a starting job, but
if we're coming into this thing with Jordan McGee, potentially Leo Chanel, with Frankie
Louville on an inspiring contract like we definitely want to have guys in the linebacker
room that we can work with and we can develop and he certainly has off all linebacker potential
does Trey Moore in the seventh or sixth round, sorry, pick 209.
We come back VJ pain and ironically, six rounder, this is actually one of my most exciting
picks that I got to make because as soon as I saw VJ pain again, we answered the call
to name the Saints were the only team calling for a trade in this situation.
But as soon as I saw VJ pain on there, it was like, hey, we haven't addressed the safety
position.
We're addressing it here, you get a center of fielder here, high IQ on the tape, turning
down the bangles.
It was the bangles tray that we turned down.
VJ pain's got the speeds at the recovery, certainly more of a cover safety than a box
safety.
So you like a little bit of that versatility, but in the sixth round, you kind of have
to take the top traits and work with what you got there.
If you're moving Juan Martin into the box, VJ pain, projects this guy that in the future,
again, you don't want to try to paint year one too much stuff for a year one guy for
a sixth round pick.
But in the future, he certainly has the tools and traits to develop and do a cover safety.
And then with the final pick, Vincent Anthony Jr., edge rusher out of Duke, I'll be honest,
this is kind of the pick where I'm like, you know what I mean, but he's a big edge to
me.
He kind of looks like a big edge to me, like a D-tritch wise, like potentially a Javon
Kinlaw, someone like that.
And truthfully, like I, it wasn't really something I expected.
The Dorante Jones defense to prioritize, but given what the commanders have done in free
agency, and who they brought back in free agency, and who they've signed, like Charles
and many, he was a big edge, a D-tritch wise, Jr. is a big edge.
We've heard Dan Quinn talk about Javon Kinlaw playing in big edge role, like obviously
the big edge is something that Dorante Jones wants.
So Vincent Anthony Jr., edge rusher out of Duke, to me, projects as a big edge in the NFL.
He's not going to, you know, you're going to lean on D-tritch and Charles and many,
who obviously this year, but you're going to look to the developments in Anthony Jr.
potentially for 2027 or maybe even beyond 66 guy, things like that.
So that's where we go there, a couple of undrafted free agents.
We also nabbed, so we'll talk about those two guys, including a 60 yard leg to come
in, compete with Jake Moody, and we'll reset our depth chart, see where we hit, see
where we didn't, see what we think about the overall situation, watch commanders are
in heading into the month of April here in a couple of weeks.

Wrap it up this week's mock draft Monday, our first post free agency mock draft Monday
of the week, like it said in the beginning of the episode, I feel like we're going to
get better every single week.
We move forward in our post free agency mock drafts as we get to know the new board and
we get to know the new flow of the operations.
Well, these are all about learning and taking lessons.
We go first round car and I'll take wide receiver, out of Ohio State, second round
cornerback, Chris Johnson.
And then we weigh all the way to the fifth round.
We get Jagger Burton, center out of Kentucky, six round go in there with two picks, trade
more, linebacker out of taxes, VJ Payton, safety out of Kansas State or the picks there.
We wrap it all up with a potential big edge of the future, you know, developmental seventh
round guy, Vincent Anthony Jr.
edge rusher out of Duke, however, we weren't done.
I also wanted to dip into the free agency pool.
So I looked at the UDFA, I'm not going to go too crazy here and sign like 12 dudes and
just be like, hey, we're just taking on these guys, but there are two guys specifically
that were left in the undrafted free agent market that I did want to look at.
And that is kicker Dominique Zavada Dominique Zavada out of Michigan secured him in the undrafted
free agent market.
You know, again, the other teams don't have a say in this one, but he's got a 60 yard
leg.
He's got 50 plus yard records.
He's basically the guy that we're going to come in or bring in to push Jake Moody, who
ironically enough is also a Michigan kicker.
But he's got the leg that you're looking for.
So you have to see if you can get the consistency out of him and training camp and all those
things.
And then we also went out and we nabged national champion Riley Noah Kowski tight end
out of Indiana by way of Wisconsin.
He's another wide tight end, think in line blocking tight end, John Bates type of guys.
We now now we end up with two move tight end options, Chico Conco and Ben Senate.
Now we've got our wide tight end, John Bates, obviously, but we've also got a young wide
tight end in development and Riley Noah Kowski to come in and help kind of push that tight
end room.
So how does the depth chart look after all of these moves?
Well, obviously, Jane Daniels is going to be your quarterback.
You got your running backs.
We did not address the running back room in the NFL draft, probably would get some
undrafted free agents if not, you know, in the actual NFL draft, but you add Riley
Noah Kowski in here.
You add Carnell Tate in here, you add Jagger Burton at the center position.
So I think the offensive line is much more fleshed out.
I mean, just counting it right off the cuff.
You got five starters and you got one, two, three, four depth players.
I mean, that's nine guys for your active roster, just right there.
And then you see what guys like Tim McKay, Julian, good, Jones, Tyler Cooper, Salah, I'm
I will mave Laulu can do to potentially secure roster spots themselves.
I think you're probably pretty safe rolling it through with nine.
Well, Carnell Tate, you have your Z receiver for right now.
So you got Terry McClaurne on one side, Carnell Tate on the other side, Luke McCaffrey, I think
Traylon Burst can still compete for that slot position.
And you still move Terry McClaurne inside as well and use Deami Brown.
Like you got Deami and Carnell outside, Terry McClaurne in the slot, you can do a lot of
things, mix and match, kind of move these guys around tight end position.
Chicken Conquo, I think still comes in as kind of your top guy, Ben Senate will see what
they do.
They'll have a lot more half like like full back, H back type of action as well, so you'll
get usage out of both of them.
Riley Noah Calci comes in, I think Colson Yankoff, Lawrence Kager, both see their status
on the team.
Uh, challenge.
And then yuck set, Jake Moody gets in with Dominic Zavada coming in from Michigan to challenge
him on the defensive side of things, adding to the free agent pool, Chris Johnson comes
in to play that outside corner back position.
Right now I would still be slotting, quote unquote, like penciling Mikey Sander still in
as that outside corner, Amig Robertson is your starting slot, Trey Amis as you're starting
opposite boundary corner, but Chris Johnson, absolutely going to come in there and look,
you basically have a three man race here.
It's Chris Johnson, Mikey Sander still Amig Robertson, which of the two of you is the combination
we like the best for boundary corner and nickel corner, that's going to be our starting
rotation.
And then the third guy in my scenario would probably be Amig Robertson.
He's going to obviously do a lot of special teams things, but he's also going to come in
as a rotational corner.
As we need him, Trey Moore comes in as a developmental off ball linebacker, while we figure out what
Jordan McGee isn't around today, Jones, the system, Leo Chanel, the future of Frankie
Louvue, uh, the development of Kane, Madrano and Ali Kaho on all those guys as well.
Vincent Anthony Jr, a death guy for sure, could he end up on the practice squad?
I know GM's don't like to draft dudes and then land them on the practice squad.
He could land on the practice squad as a developmental big end to potentially step onto
the active roster next year instead of 2026.
We'll see what happens there, uh, but again, that's the pick where I'm kind of the
shakiest, you know what I mean?
And obviously if you love man's or the lane, you're like, bro, you should be shaky there,
go wide receiver in the second round, um, but the way that I fell, you end up with the
same caliber type of player at either position there.
So that is how our mock draft Monday here post free agency shakes up.
Uh, it was an interesting ride.
Certainly some things that if I could undo, I would undo and potentially do a little bit
differently, but overall, and then we fill the needs pretty decently.
We get some guys in there and things like that.
Truthfully, if Caleb Downs was available, potential pick, pull trigger at number seven,
I will tell you that a sunny style was available at number seven.
We absolutely would have pulled the trigger there.
A quarterback of the defense is absolutely important.
So getting a quarterback of the defense for Dorontay Jones and also being able to get
the versatility brings probably would have would have pulled the trigger on that one.
And then see what happens in the third round of pick number 71.
However, that's not the way things pan down.
And also, look, maybe Dorontay Jones does look at Leo Chanel as his off ball, middle
linebacker, Mike type of guy quarterback for his defense, uh, we've also had conversations
about could it be Nick Cross could it be the safety?
Right.
So obviously there's a lot of things that are going to be considered there.
And as we get a little bit more information, we will adjust accordingly.
So let me know what you think.
Let me know what you would have done.
Different.
Let me know what you liked in the comment section.
That's going to do it for today's up.
So next time on locked on commanders, I'm going to do a little bit of a deep dive, break
down into what I think these schemes are going to look like, where I think players, certain
players fit where I think certain players don't fit and how that impacts the remaining
holes on the roster, which will help start to lead us into our next mock draft Monday
coming up next week.
