Brian Smith, the BS report joining us. It is Game Week, Notre Dame, Wisconsin. Just a couple days away, Brian. And we're going to get into what it looks like when Notre Dame has the ball, when Wisconsin has the ball, some key matchups, game prediction. Some questions from our discord for you as well.

2:04But I just want to start here, man. Do the Badgers have a path to keep this game close? It's the obvious for us for the trees answer. It's turnover and special teams plays. I don't think it can be close if they just play them straight up. I'm just being honest. I think Notre Dame will absolutely smother them in the front seven of their defense. And I think Wisconsin will average about three yards of carry. That's not a path to victory, brother. So if they don't like plus two would be minimum, but I think they need to be plus four to win. Keeping it close, they got to be plus two. Is there how much of the off season narrative? And I've given my take on this and I just am curious what you think. The off season narrative of Notre Dame is just going to be coming really ticked off. Rostrated. We know what happened last year. How much of that matters when the game starts? That's a great question because you put there at the end is the very key part. Once the ball is kicked, I don't know. I think all of that really matters when you're conditioning in your studying film and all that other stuff for the players.

3:06Now for the coaches, that's a little different. Here's the X. This is for every team, especially with what happened to Notre Dame. A lot of teams will use this. If a game is out of hand, it doesn't mean you're not going to score. I don't like this part, but when you have playoffs, points matter like Notre Dame plays rice next week. That could be 77 to nothing. I mean, it's fair or not, you pile on. So it's two different perspectives. Coaches aren't going to necessarily believe their like CJ cars are not going to play in late in the fourth quarter against rice, but you're going to throw the ball. Where we're running our offense. You're also throwing post patterns with four minutes to go. You're going to see that. So players play coaches, so the ones are going to decide some of that stuff. But I think once the game's kicked off, it's still blocking and tackling. I don't really think that it's that big of a deal personally. So I don't either. But obviously, I'm coming out of front, the address perspective. But I also listen, I've said a couple times, I've talked to a lot of Wisconsin players and coaches this off season, been to practices like they're pissed off too coming off last

4:08year. Right? It should be. But my point is more like week one motivation is not kind of uniquely Notre Dame, right? There's a lot of motivation across the board here. And I just think that narrative has been overplushed. Yeah, Notre Dame gets more tension because they were the one almost in the playoff. The roles have been a reverse Wisconsin would have been in that conversation. But when you win four games, nobody's happy. If you're not motivated, if you're not agitated, I'd be more concerned about Wisconsin this year. I would have already put an X through Look fickle's name because he wouldn't be back. Like you got to have motivated players when you play in the big 10 because that week is brutal. And they're scheduled while easier than it was the last two years. I mean, that was ridiculous. It's still not easy plus you're adding Notre Dame. So yeah, it's a good thing that they're motivated. I kind of hit on this already, but I'm curious to just take it a step further. How aggressive is Notre Dame in this game? But the talented manage today, do they play more of a zone and just kind of let Wisconsin come to them and just use their talent?

5:09Do they just want to run the ball and establish that? I know it's a running team. Obviously, they can take shots with car, but how aggressive do you think their weak one game plan is? I'll take this from two parts offensively. I think they'll run their offense. I know they lost two tremendous running backs. Jeremiah followed Notre Dame for about 40 years. He's his talent that players have ever had. You can't replace that. Obviously, Anias Williams is really good. He's going to make some plays. He's probably better in the passing game than he is even as a runner. They're deep at every spot. They literally don't have a spot, but they don't have depth. But the question is, do they take shots and all that? That, that really depends on what Wisconsin does. Because CJ is probably as cerebral players or is in college football. For those that don't know, he's CJ, CJ is Wood Carr's grandson. 1997 Michigan National Champion hit coach. So his family, I mean, he lives at Breeze. You're not going to show him anything he has it seen. So he might nickel and dime you to death.

6:10But if what I'm thinking Wisconsin's going to do is they're going to put an extra guy in the box, try to say, like, look, we have no shot unless we can stop the run. Notre Dame's got some guys who can go get it. You're going to see some shots. Question is, can the badgers pressure with four? If they can't, then Notre Dame will dictate to him and it's not going to make any difference. Defensively, you're going to see the kitchen sink. They are very, very complex on defense. And I know it's probably your least favorite guy to talk about. And it's my favorite as a Notre Dame guy, Kingston, Billy, I'm a ASA. We'll be your nightmare. He is a four way player. As a rusher, we run defender. He's good at linebackers. There is in the country and coverage. And especially for this game, the fourth problem, he is the perfect linebacker to be a spy. He is literally a guy that can be drafted in the NFL in three or four spots. Your fast rusher inside linebacker either spot and you could even use him as an overhang defender in the slot in some situations. I expect that the most that you will see Notre Dame be aggressive, he will be involved.

7:10I don't know how much he'll play because he is coming off a knee injury from last year, but he's a freaky, freaky athlete. They may only play him 20 snaps. But when he's in the game, watch where 27's at. Every action will be predicated on him. He'll be his talent that his player is a recent game. Is there a chance as this game does stay close? And we've talked about the possibility of Notre Dame running away with this. That's very much a possibility. But if it stays close into the second half and it's a weird neutral site game, it's week one and the entire off season has been about leave no doubt. We deserve to be there. And then third quarter, if it's, I don't know, a 20 to 10 game in Wisconsin has the ball. Notre Dame fans get a little nervous, Wisconsin fans fire up. Is there a chance the pressure can almost be too much week one? Absolutely. Why couldn't it be week one goofy things happen? Remember, these are college kids. A lot of these guys aren't legally at least allowed to be in a bar yet. So you never know what's going to happen if things go wrong. Like Notre Dame had more injuries like they're off season the last couple of years, tried to figure out offense once.

8:11Been weird even though they recruited as well as anybody. They just finally kind of figured out who the right guard was going to be this week. Maybe he's terrible. Maybe they can't run the ball as well. And even in CJ's going to play in the NFL, third and sixths is never fun. That is a path where that could happen. He Notre Dame struggles with snap count. I doubt it, but if they had three or four fall starts and I missed times opportunities with penalties and stuff, you hand those situations to the other team and they can give themselves a chance off sides, pass interference, this dumb stuff like that. It could happen. Now, this game was week three or four. I'd give that about a half a percent chance. Week one, five to 10 percent. I could see that. Week one is this weird man. Don't be surprised that the ball goes over the punters head or something for one of teams. I don't care how much you practice first games for special teams in particular. Is a recipe for disaster? I don't care if you're Georgia, Notre Dame, Texas, anybody else that can happen. Yeah, no, I think that's something that probably needs to happen for Wisconsin to stay in this, but it's definitely something that we've seen happen in past years.

9:13Week one, there's been a lot of crazy upsets. Let me just get this. As somebody who falls college football at a national perspective, if this game kind of goes the way you think it's going to go and we're going to get into a prediction here in a second, what do you want to see from Wisconsin? If you're walking out of the end of week one and you're saying, man, I at least I saw that this feels like it's heading in the right direction. I have three things that I want to see and I know always, constant fans want to know this too. They spend some money on the outside, meaning corner and receiver. Just A and B here. How do they look? Is it aesthetically pleasing? Now, part of that, I need to see some all 22 film TV coffee doesn't do enough. It doesn't work. You either got to be at the game or have all 22 film. That sucks, but it's true. Secondarily, I want to see what their depth is like. Again, they spent and gets Notre Dame early in the year. You're going to have to rotate like those two inside linebackers are really good players. Who comes in when one of them has to come out? Do they have a nickel wine back? Do they have a nickel? That's good, but do they have another guy that can come in? Again, Notre Dame is going to throw waves at every spot. If you don't, that's a problem. Then finally, just flat out team speed.

10:14That has not been a badger strength, especially on offense the last few years. Do they have the ability to run with Notre Dame? Because Notre Dame is as fast as team as there is in the country. They won't have a better measuring stick this year. I have no idea what to expect because I have so many new bodies. We'll find out, but team speed needs to improve for Wisconsin. I think it did, but how much? We have a couple of questions here in the discord. A two badger says, what are you going to do if Bucky shocks the world on Sunday? Maybe come to Minnesota game on 1127. Middle winter, where are some badger gear? What's Brian's response when Wisconsin wins this game? I would probably come to that game without a shirt. I am not too worried about it. Notre Dame is not going to lose, but look, I hope Wisconsin is a lot better than what I think. Badger fans won't like my score prediction very much, but I just don't think they have enough talent on the outside. I think it's going to be the same problem to otherwise proven, but I think the roster overall is better. What I'm really worried about is the injuries on the offensive line, and that's why I don't. I'm not too concerned about Notre Dame losing because of that, but I hope Wisconsin's

11:17better this year. You guys have suffered. Yeah. And I'll just throw this out there. The internet remembers everything. This is all recorded. Brian coming to Minnesota without a shirt on is now on record. It is all this upset. I'm just going to throw it out there. Ancho wanted to know, because I know we had talked about you maybe getting up for this game, or you bond, you can't make it up to this game to watch. Yeah, it sucks, but there's a lot going on. It's doing post game shows as you know, post game shows is where you make your money. And the only way to do it is to do it. Fans want to emote they want to be happy. They want to be sad. It is what it is. Yeah. I'm going to struggle to do my post game show, but it's going to be worth it to be there. We're taking a quick second. We're going to come back. All right, Brian, let's talk through it. Notarame has the ball. You hit on the running back

13:20town they lost. Trumman is down. Now that room is stacked. It's young. I've listened to a lot of what you've done on your Notarame pod get your depth chart breakdown. Obviously there's talent there, but you're not replacing Jeremiah love. So, oh, you're muted right now. All good. Yeah, you're not replacing Jeremiah. That's his talented employers I've ever seen another day. So is there a chance where this was constant defense here? Here's here. I'm going to give you my hope and what I hope to see on defense. Newtell me how realistic this is was constantly very big and deep up front. They are about 600-300 pounders. They defended the run really well last year. They were at top 20ish run defense last year. I think they're going to be similar this year. Those two inside linebackers are studs. I think they're going to slow Notarame's running game down. And with the more athletic secondary, just make it a little more difficult for CJ Cardibee efficient. That's what I hope to see on defense. How possible is that? I think that's very possible. I wouldn't worry about Notarame being slowed down if I was calm. Like if that doesn't happen, then the game's just going to get obliterated. I don't

14:24care what you do. This is the old saying, especially in the NFL. There's nothing you can do about a perfect pass. And you're going to see some of those from CJ, even when you have a guy in his face. That's a 10 plus year NFL quarterback. That's there's nothing you can do. So that's why you have to take away the run. He might throw for 300 and they might run for 80. But if you've got to put an extra guy in the box and they're constantly destroying you in one of ones, it's going to be a problem. So here are the players that you need to know. Number one, obviously CJ is number 13 behind center, after that, it's Jordan Fazon. He's a former walk on, but he was in a elite across player in high school and then he is transitioned to playing in Notarame and he's doomed. They're also going to throw the ball to other guys. Jaden Greathouse is healthy again. He's the guy that was really good a couple years ago. He's been state in Ohio State. Along with him, my one Graham who comes over from Ohio State, they've got two guys out of a chance to play in the NFL at slot and then out wide. They've got a maybe a different guy as they can do it. And they, if you remember, Fox go Burris. Oh yeah. His son is his son is the backup there and they've got another guy that's pretty good to.

15:28I don't know how it's going to go exactly how they're going to rotate, but they have enough guys that they can throw it around and then they've got two guys named Flanagan. One of they spelled their names differently. They'll mix it up and they'll throw it to Anias. I think Notarame is going to try to kill them with seven to 10-yard passes and just what athletes play at space. This is the first time Notarame has been able to do that in a while because you had to give the ball to Jeremiah and Jindarian, but they were really generic last year. CJ only had 24 touchdown passes this year. They're going to want to lose more. So well, they get slowed down 100%. Can Wisconsin win battles against CJ? Is there, is the question of the game? If not, it could get out of hand. Well, I think they have to be creative. Take some risks. Right. You can't just play all those going all men overloaded a little bit, send some pressure, but maybe drop somebody else. I think they have to be dynamic defensively. The hope I have is athletically they've upgraded the secondary. Now, what it'll look like on the field is the question, but they have absolutely gone on and got real athletes. They want to play more man. I think they're going to try it this

16:31week and I my question to you is you went through the Notarame receiving room and I know there's talent there, but some of it's on proven. You know, it's similar in some ways to Wisconsin's questions or some talent there, but it's on proven. I think do you think Wisconsin can win enough of those matchups on the edge, the cornerbacks versus the Notarame receivers? Well, that was my question to you. There's a new position in football that is the most important beyond quarterback and it's nickel. Just straight up, yes or no, is you're starting nickel a first or second round rapic? Can I put a question mark? I mean, do you have any idea like is it just we don't know? No, it's the case. Yeah, here's the here's I'll tell you where they're at and then you tell me your thoughts on where they're at. So they went out this offseason. They made that a priority. To your point, your nickels basically a starter at this point in college football. It's really everybody has to run one. Yeah, absolutely. And they went out and they got one, two hours day and they pulled Bryce West over. Bryce West was a big, big time recruit and he has looked really good in fall. Physical kid does a lot of things really well. That's the starting nickel.

17:35And it's again, where we go back to athletically, they really improved this secondary. A Maran Berks from Missouri, Bryce West from Ohio State, kaybates from Florida State, Chivon, Robinson from Arizona State, Eric Fletcher came over from Oklahoma State and he might be the most athletic of the bunch. He's 620, he runs a 4-3 and he might be your starting field. So they have athletes now Brian and Bryce West will be that nickel spot that they're going to rely on. Well, then they have a chance then because Notre Dame has got some really good route runners in their twitchy. They're not huge. Like Mike Gilbert is their boundary 6-2-210. But great house is 6-1-2-10 and he's he's your spot. He's an unusual spot. He's a big body guy. If you're not really good with technique there, they're going to like CJ has got a report with him, phase on his favorite, but he's got a report with great house now. That's the key matchup. If you're going to roll cover, it'll be to phase on. We're probably not going to cover him very well. One-on-one. He's one of those guys. You don't tackle one of them. He's very, very athletic. But if they have a second option and then they can kind of pick their poison, that's far. You

18:37got to take away one of those guys individually. Hardly anybody doubles the slot. It's hard and it gets very complicated when you try to use linebackers as part of the package. But anyway, I think that's the key matchup. And then after that, Notre Dame is going to run a lot of motion. Any mental errors with CJ, you see those all 22 clips? Oh, they should have thrown it here. CJ, I'll miss that. If you have a bust in the back end, the band will be playing. So that is my big question with Game 1s as well, beyond special teams. I cover four to stay locked on Semitals. Holy cow, did they have holes everywhere? I saw some of it. Oh my gosh. There was a couple of touchdowns that the quarterback from Mexico State missed. If that had been CJ, those are six. So I need to see them just communicate. It's going to be emotional. If you miss one thing, the band will play. Well, that's a worry of mine, right? With this new, it's a new look secondary. And it's kind of a young secondary. And there's going to be to your point, just it's a loud environment.

19:38It's week one. CJ cars really do these cerebral. It's going to be really easy to mix up a coverage somewhere and drop somebody. How about really quick, white Marlin wants to know, they're off and sliding and star defense lining in our defense line. Or maybe you need Notre Dame fans at tune in. It's deep and it's big. It's not the most athletic group that you're going to find. But they're pretty stout. What does this matchup look like for you and what does Notre Dame's offensive line look like? The player that is out is one of the freaky as guys they've ever had. But he's missed like two, three years with injury. That's kind of going to get into it. He's the most gifted guy to have on the roster. But he may play later this year. Just leave that alone. The question is whether or not the right guard spot gets fixed. They've went through every possibility. And the guy that was the backup left tackle has moved the right guard. I have no idea what that's going to look like. He's named styles press god, six six, three hundred and five. I mean, he fits the bill. He has no chemistry with these guys. Now the guy that was playing right tackle is six seven, three hundred and thirty pounds. And he's going to go in the first round. I think after this next year. So he's

20:39playing next to a dude in the center is probably going to get drafted. But if he's going the wrong way for he's jumping off sides or Wisconsin just eating him up, you can stonewall the team just one guy upfront misses. And that's why Ohan recruiting so important. That's a concern. And then the only player that Notre Dame is going to start on offense that is not at least in his third year college football is the left tackle. His name is Will Black. Some had him as a five star. Every team in the country offered him her start and really play last year. He won the starting job basically just in spring though, which blew my mind. I was very surprised by that. Just blew past older guys that were recruited similarly. I have a feeling that Wisconsin is going to try to throw some things that will black I would. He's never played. You've got to create some turnovers. They know that right garden left tackle where Wisconsin can make some hay. Okay. No, it's great stuff as always. Come back to Brian, let's finish this show off. If you're Wisconsin and you go into this game, you have Colton Joseph, you have running back. So we tend to really like Abu Sama. I think it's a good back in Dara and debris behind them. How do you attack this really talented Notre Dame defense? I would go with three things. Number one, you've got to be who you are. You're a run first team. But you probably have to mix in a little more misdirection with Notre Dame. They're going to be faster than you. So can you time that up? I hate saying the following because people always think it's a coaching problem. It's usually a player problem. But if the play calling doesn't catch Notre Dame off guard on some blitzes, etc. Or they hit big plays, gash them. It's going to be tough. But they got at least try that. Number two,

23:43Colton Joseph, whether it's designed or it's a drop back, whatever. At some point, he's just going to have to make guys miss. That's a hell of an athlete. He's got to have a couple of wild plays. That's inevitable. And then finally, I have no idea what's going to happen with their wide receiver group. But I know that would fickle mentioned, like, you know, we're going to throw some at one or more of this and that. Here's a little piece of advice. Don't do that. You know, they throw a lot at Leonard Moore. The game will be uglier than even I predict. Terrible idea. Throw to the other guys. Throw the middle of the field. Take play action shots. 15s over there. Throw the other right. How for this in the hypothetical world where Wisconsin pulls up, sorry, at least he's a close. How many points does Wisconsin have to score if they score 21, 24, 21 to 24 is exactly where I would say. I'd be surprised that they scored that many, but again, Black Punt, special teams play Joseph makes a linebacker miss and takes it 70. All those are possible.

24:44The key here is what happens in the first 15 minutes. We can say whatever we want, but these are young people. How many young people do you know, Ryan, that don't get on social media? Zero. It would be the zero. They don't like guys like me, but they also, or but they admit or not, they're watching. If they struggle in that first quarter, they're down 14 and not thrown or something, this sucker can go sideways. They must play well in the first quarter. Then you can send yourself a penalties, stupid mistakles, you know, anything like that. They can't have them. It has to be on the other name side because they have more talent. You get through the first 15 minutes and it's three to three or something. Why not? Game on. Yeah, absolutely. That's everything. If they don't play well in the first quarter, this game will get ugly. That's such a good point. This early start is so massive for Wisconsin, with, yeah, which I think is going to be a 60, 40 Badger crowd 50. I mean, it's not going to be overwhelming, but there's going to be a lot of Badger fans there. If you can start early, it's going to be

25:45enjoyable. And you're going to give yourself a chance. What is your game prediction? Like, how do you see this playing out? What do you think is going to happen ultimately when we're done with 60 minutes of football on Sunday? I think Notre Dame will start pulling away by half, but I think it'll be more of an avalanche in the second half. Just depth. They have waves of players. I've got Notre Dame 45-14 with like two touchdowns away when it doesn't matter. I think what's constant will be very gritty for the first quarter quarter and a half, but Notre Dame speed will take over and they'll create turnovers. That won't go well. Here is hoping you're wrong. From me. I love the honest perspective, man. That's why people, I get comments all the time that really love when you come on. My dad, by the way, said the other days, like, that's one of my favorite guests. It comes on just because you tell it how it is and you watch it from a national perspective, which I think is important to have somebody come in that isn't a Badger centric person. I think it provides good context. Still hoping you're wrong. Listen, to be honest, it'd be better for Notre Dame if it was closer. They need to be challenged.

26:47Their schedule is garbage. So many of the teams they scheduled 10-15 year, like Michigan State and Wisconsin, they thought we're going to be good. They're going to be average teams. They need to be challenged more before they play Miami and S of U. And listen, we got it on record. If they pulled the upset Minnesota shirtlets, we're going to we're going to pencil that in.
