Come on, put the smile on your face. I can't even keep up with it no more. I love her was jagged menus. Who's this?
Justin Moore
See famous. Ah, he had a run in like
12 to 15. Oh, okay. Yeah, it's all of the blundersberg fair. Oh really? Yeah, that's a big. Oh, that's a big event
Yeah, that's a big get big get central PA. It's the WIP afternoon show at Ike's Biker Fritz. That's your 330 country
Elliott short parks with us from Arizona from the owners meetings for two stays with Elliott
Elliott before we get back to the Eagles can we talk about the sixers for one moment
Absolutely
So last night a big game for the sixers at the Miami Heat the heat are one of the teams. They are trying to
position against in the play-in versus play-offs situation and last night not only big for standings
But for tiebreaker so because the sixers lost to the heat now they they lose the tie breaker to the heat
I believe they've also lost the tie breaker to the hawks. They've won it against the magic
They've won it against the Hornets whatever. So that was a big loss last night
They're playing okay. Not the greatest game. They take a lead in the in the fourth quarter for some reason
Rock and roll head coach as the heat go on a 10-0 run in like 90 seconds has Paul George their best perimeter defender
Also their best shooter sitting on the bench the entire time waits to the heat go out like seven points
They have a time out just sat there and watched it Quentin Grimes look was I'm sorry Quentin Grimes is a fine player
He is not what they call a red light player when he that that's not what he is he makes bad decisions with the ball
He takes bad chances the fact that he didn't have Paul George in there was mind numbing to me
And they ended up blowing that game that now look you're not gonna win every
Game against the good team on the road and they beat Charlotte
But that was a big game they had a shot
I think they were up six at one point after after and bead hit that three
It was a back-and-forth game though. Yeah, it was back-and-forth all game
They take that lead and then I just don't know how you have Paul George sitting on the bench as the lead is evaporating
Call a timeout get the guy in the game. That's the time for vets
It's he is he's the best perimeter defender on the team and and that is the thing that the sixers are gonna have trouble with in the playoffs
We will talk about the offense, but that's what we'll constantly talk about
They can't guard and they their defensive rebounding is just absolutely atrocious and there were so many
Miami miss shots where Miami wound up with the ball again
I think the Hornets out offensive rebound of them 21 to seven the other day and last night
They got crushed on the defensive boards as well and like one of one of the things is that and bead just not a good rebounder anymore
He's never great. There's no lift and absolute it's his lowest defensive rebound rate of his career
They have to do with guards, you know, they have to do it with everybody
They don't box out which is something that is a very simple thing to do that they've decided not that is what's going to kill them on the playoffs
Is they cannot guard and then and then they they cannot defensive rebound and that against teams like these good teams are gonna play in the first round
That's and it's so easy to get excited when you see all three guys the offense is not going to be the problem
The the problem is gonna be is gonna be guarding other teams and if you remember that that thing about offensive rebounds
Think about the Nick series. How many offensive rebounds did Josh Hart get
Against the Sixers that kept possessions alive over and over and over again
That's gonna happen against the Celtics is gonna happen against the Cavs is gonna happen against the Knicks
So that is that is the concern and rock and roll coach is so busy
Screaming at referees and complaining and throwing temper tantrums that he's not coaching anymore
Thinking about the next time that he can go sit in with Mount Joy and play drums or piano
Whatever the hell he wants to do. I just I don't know what he's doing. I've never
The tasty cake Don is
Was more right about Nick nurse than he's ever been right about anything
I just I don't know what he's doing. I don't know what value he provides over there. So
Well, the tough the tough thing too is like I think during this whole Sixers run
It's been wolf and bead can just be healthy like that is it and they have almost everything going right in beads healthy
And is playing better than I think anyone could have hoped to share Paul George came back
Actually playing great Max. He comes back early. He's playing great
But it's just a reminder that to actually make a T-post season run like you have to be clicking on all levels
And they got everything going their way
But you're right Nick nurse last night makes a head coaching error and like that's it right and they lose the game
So yeah, I think this past week's been a good reminder about convincing ourselves of things as opposed to what the team is actually
K pool of and I'm glad that he came back
But it is clear if you're watching him that the
Hand is still bothering Maxi like he was favoring it a bunch
And I look if you're not going to come back now as long as he can't do any damage to it
They have it's eight games left in the regular season. He's got to play with the other guys
It's like, you know, you want to get out of the play and I understand why he's doing it
But it is pretty clear that it is still bothering him. I wouldn't be surprised. Don't say you can get that super max
Well, there's that too. Well, no, he just signed an extension, but yes get the all in the anything
Yeah, he wants to get that
I understand why he wants to get it, but
But it's clear that he's limited. I wouldn't be surprised if in the offseason we hear something about him having surgery on that hand
You know every time I think about this with Maxi and that pinky. This is pinky, right
Was it pinky? It's a pinky finger. I think it's a thumb or is it's pinky? Yeah, it's just pinky
It's just pinky. Yes, because nobody wanted to say pinky finger. Yes. That's how the sixers reported
Yeah, yeah, pinky. Yeah, pinky
It just reminds me
How impressive and remarkable Kobe was oh, jeez when he wanted to title with a broken finger
Oh my god, I want to shoot a finger to it and that went to pinky. That was like the the index finger on his shooting on his shooting hand
Did we turn this into a Kobe? No, I just say it just reminds me of it. Okay. All right. Well
Tyrus maxi's no Kobe 824
624 I was gonna say did he have that finger?
Yeah, well, I got he had great teammates
All right, Elliott. Wait, what do you need? So the 18 game season it
Craft came out. It seemed very in favor of it. It seems like the owners want to do it
I would imagine though as you talk to coaches and players
That that not everybody would be excited about an 18 game season
Yeah, so I think when Larry talks today. I'm sure he'll be asked about it
I would guess he will be in favor of it
I think at 18 game season would probably include a second buy so you're adding you know two weeks to the NFL season
So they're slowly getting to where they're basically playing you know all year and dominating the sports calendar year round
But I agree. I think players you already hear them talk about the fact that they're you know have to fly to Australia to play a game
They play on Thursdays. They play on you know Mondays too. They play on basically every day
I would just say that when this comes when the 18 game thing happens
The money they'll make or at least some of the players, you know
I know not all make as much as others
But like the money they'll get from the extra game will be big
And I wonder how much the players will have it in them to push back on the potential of the increased money to play the extra game
Let me jump in here with you. Yeah, go for you. Let me jump in here. Yeah, because this is a negotiate employee
From the players as it should be that they don't want to do that. They don't want to do it
Elliot's exactly right
When they put that money in front of them and about what they're going to get and how it's going to be divvyed up
Those players are going to be okay with it because one thing I know the top of the food chain all they care about is themselves at the top of the food chain
And those are the guys who want to benefit the most from this the quarterbacks
Your receivers your defensive ends the guys that make the top in money
On these teams they're going to benefit and the younger players that they won't be on these type of big deals
What what they should be looking for because they're going to get persuaded to go along with this by the older players
But what the younger guys should be looking at whose careers won't be lasting as long as some of those guys
They'd be thinking about benefits medical benefits and sure things that nature things that will help them
When the game is gone and and help them in their retirement
That's the biggest thing I would say to them you get as much as you can now
But most careers only last three and a half four years anyway unless you're a quarterback or one of those guys
They they play a whole lot longer
So if you're these guys
There aren't going to be in the league as long anyway
Then you got to try to find these little pockets where it can benefit you
While you're playing
Because it's the benefits aren't going to be the same for every player
My concern and Elliot you brought up the Australia game which you know the ram is ram's in the Niners
Yeah
I'm sorry man how they are I worry about deluding the game and I know like you might say it and Elliot
Might say it doesn't matter doesn't matter doesn't matter
There will be a breaking point to which the quality of the game starts to degrade and you might not notice it at first
But you might wake up at some point and you'd be like wait a minute
This isn't the same sport and it happened with the NBA
And I'm not saying that it's expansion that did that or playing more games
But nobody noticed that the NBA going the wrong way until they woke up and 10 years later
They're like wait a minute why why does nobody care about or sport anymore?
And I don't think the NFL is at that risk
But here we we see two of the one of the best teams in the NFL last year promises to be one of the best teams the NFL this year
That's the Rams one of the the you know teams of the last five years has been very good
In the San Francisco 49ers
They're flying all the way across the world. They're going to play a game at 10 in the morning local time
It'll be at night here, but it'll be 10 in the morning in Australia
I'm sorry that game should be in San Francisco or that game should be in Los Angeles
That game should not be in Australia. They shouldn't be playing at 10 in the morning
It's two of the most important to send the jaguars out there or something
sending those teams out there to Australia and like Australia is not very big
I like I don't know what the goal is with this
And then you're playing more football games these guys
You know, you see when you talk to these players. I mean like you played
But now now I get to talk and play
Yeah, you talk to them now and the beating that they are taking in these games over and over and over again
You play more games. You're playing them on more days. You're playing halfway across the the world
I don't know I just think eventually they're going to push this to a point where
The game isn't as good because there's more injured players and the quality is not as good
You tell me how the quality of Rams 49ers can be good with them flying to Australia and playing at 10 in the morning
I mean, how is that even possible? It just doesn't seem worth it to me. Well, here's the
I think the game is a lot safer than it was when I played
It's not even close to what it was physically safe. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's physically. Yes
Everybody's worried about right? Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's safer
From that standpoint and think about the guys that played the generation before I played with medicine wasn't the check the same
Treatment all those things weren't the same. There wasn't restrictions on how long you could practice and how many times a day
You could practice and the game has sort of evolved to where
You're getting longevity out of these players because I think the preparation for the games today
Aren't the same these guys are better athletes
They the nutrition is better. They all have specialists. They have trainers
And the first game to york is talking about that 49ers game
It's no different than the first game of the regular season anywhere
None of them playing the preseason. So the first game is always sloppy
Yeah, it's always sloppy. It's it's never
aesthetically pleasing at first game of the season
Yeah, I would say those two to spike what you were saying about, you know, send the jaguars over there, right?
I think that we might not care about this, but the reasoning they are trying to
Grow the the game globally because they are falling behind the other leagues when it comes to popularity outside of the state
So you're right. They could send the jags and the Texans over there
But sending like big-time opponents like I was in Brazil when it was the Packers and the Eagles two big-time franchises
And it was a sold out stadium with a with an awesome atmosphere
So they I think they care very much about trying to catch up with the other sports that are very popular overseas
Which is not as much the case with the NFL. I agree
I just think it gets to a point and we were talking about this a few weeks ago
It gets to a point where like growth
Growth over quality
Ends up ends up costing you and and like, you know
The NBA is very big all over the world
But as that has happened as they've gotten bigger all over the world
They've gotten progressively less popular in the United States, right?
I mean that the NBA is just nowhere near as big as it was 20 years ago
It isn't and I don't care what anybody says. I don't care if you you talk about, you know, how many tweets of you
How many views a tweet guy? I can promise you that in conversation
You can fill it. You can fill it. Yeah, you just know it's not and I just I just worry about the baseball's bigger than the NBA
Uh, it's certainly rivaling it. Yes. Yeah
Yeah, well, I also think too to your points, but like one thing the NFL has right now is there's one game a week and that game really matters
You know like that's one thing the NBA struggles with is there so many games that a Tuesday night game against whoever doesn't feel like it really matters
And if they do get to a point where they're playing, you know now it's 18 games
Let's say it's 19 or whatever there could be a time where that week three game doesn't feel
Meaningful right when now all the games feel meaningful
So I think the the quality of the play to me is not as important as it is the impact the game
Feels like it has and that's what I think they have over other leagues right now
So one thing that could affect the quality is that the uh, at least the beginning of the year is the the referees who are
likely going to have a some sort of work stoppage. They don't have a CBA
The NFL has started hiring replacement referees and we remember the last time that happened that wasn't
That wasn't you know wasn't great because every there's a you know
Even if they they ref the game the exact same way
Every single one of their mistakes is going to be highlighted because it is a replacement ref
And then also using more centralized
Referring I look I don't I don't know if this this affects us all that much
But I do think the NFL the NFL moving to more centralized
Efficient and could actually wind up for a better product when you all the leagues could do it
They just don't do it because they have you know that they have humans doing it
But I I do wonder if if this work stoppage for the referees last for a while and that centralized
Referring is a like is a big help you could get to a point where the guys on the field
Are only communicating what happened or what was called as opposed to them actually making the calls
And if you've ever stood on a a football it was
Illuminating to me the first time I stood on the field at Lincoln financial field during a game
I was you can't see anything
I don't know how the referees see anything because everybody's at your same level
You're so used to watching the game at the TV level or when you're in the stands and you're looking down on everything
When everything is at the exact same level. It's actually harder to see those things
And I think that this the I think the referee thing is really interesting because it could not only affect the NFL
I think it affect all sports if the centralized refereeing ends up ends up being a success
Yeah, I mean you saw today that the rule was approved
I don't know if you guys have talked about it on area where they will be able to correct obvious misses from
You know the league office or somebody not down on the field
And I think that's a net positive I guess for for us because you know the mistakes won't be made
But if you're the referees that are you know trying to strike here and trying to get more stuff
You see that they're starting to make these calls from from not on the field and slowly
You know, you can sit there and go yeah, we can fight for for more money now
But there might not be money soon if the if this works and the NFL decides they can just
Referee and control the game better from the league offices
So back to the Eagles for a second the two guys we talked about for
Extensions that we have not heard anything yet was Jalen Carter and Jalen Hertz
What I wonder about these things not getting done is they and Ellie you can correct me if I'm wrong
It with either one of them
It doesn't seem like the cap for this year. There would be any negative to extending either of those guys
I wonder
Do you still think it is likely that Jalen Carter gets an extension this off season?
Yes, I think Jalen Carter will get an extension
This off season to your point about the cap
It won't really impact the cap much. I mean it would not shock me at all if especially for Jalen Hertz
If he gets a contract extension if that cap number goes down
It certainly won't like double, you know, so it I don't think it'll impact the cap much
You know, I think this happened with Fletcher Cox if I'm not mistaken his deal went into like the voluntary OTA's
I remember him not practicing during mandatory mini camp like these bigger contracts
Not that Jordan Davis's contract was a small one
But you know Jalen Carter's deal
I still think we'll get done
But the Jalen Hertz thing, you know, is a good question for Jeffrey
I think where Jeffrey Larry when he speaks in a little bit here because that's a big time decision
Like we know Jeffrey is involved in a lot of decisions
But when it comes to paying a franchise quarterback, he is clearly very involved in that
So I think Jalen Carter will get done. I don't know as much about Jalen Hertz
And do you would have any ideas to why Jalen Carter hasn't happened yet?
It just seems strange to me that it hasn't happened yet
Yeah, I mean it could be you know, and I'd have to look around the league to see if there's defensive tackles
Who maybe are also up for extensions where Jalen Carter's team wants to wait and see what they get and
You know from that perspective it could be the Eagles are saying look we're gonna pay you
But we'll have 30 million dollars more in cash when we eventually trade AJ. Maybe that's part of it
But again like Fletcher Cox's deal, you know, same position same caliber of player arguably obviously Fletcher's an all-time great
Eagle but like his deal took well into the off season two
So I think as long as he's paid before training camp
I don't know if there's a huge difference and it happening a week ago or like three, you know two months from now
Now here's the good news Elliott. We have a few minutes left
So the fills have started one and three I'm wondering if you have any thoughts on the happier you in the start of the season
We're on a slid one one shot in
I called it nobody else called it
Let it go. Oh, what did he say when I missed it completely? What did he say? Well, you know
I think it was really I enjoyed listening to your guy show an opening day from the booth and the excitement was fun
But like it's just this I don't know why anybody expected anything different like this is what of course we did
We all take 90s and wins we can hope for it and they could still get 90 wins like maybe they will turn it around
But I think beginning of seasons matter like the vibes matter
And I think the toughest thing not to go back to Dumbrowski's comment
But it's going to be a story all year is if you're Bryce Harper and you're struggling right now
Aren't you looking up to the to like whatever sweet Dumbrowski is in and thinking, you know, man
Maybe you know, I don't even know if I have the backing of my own GM here like and that has to be tough
When you're trying to get out of a slump so you know, Lizardo
I was worried about having a good year after good year
He had last year, but I think the pitching will be fine
But like the hitters are who they are
They're just they're not clutch anymore and they're not that good anymore
So I just don't think it's going to turn around that much. I'm not saying they're they're going to win 70 games
But like 95 night. I don't I don't see it. They're not that good anymore now like
Couch or were was the runner-up for MVP last year and tray Turner did lead the league in
In batting average, what did they do in the playoffs? Well, what did they do this year? Like it's so crazy to me that when
Joelle and bead was great during the regular season the six was winning all these games
All I heard about them was doesn't matter until the playoffs doesn't matter until the playoffs like that's what the fillies are now
Like it's exactly what the sixers we can talk ourselves into Joelle being healthy and Paul George being back
We know how this movie ends and with the fillies we know how it ends
They're not going to hit when it matters. They just don't and so maybe they'll win regular season games
But they're just not hitters you can trust in big spots
Jack any thoughts right now. Yes
Right now I understand no, it's more than right now and I have people keep saying it's only four games
Like to not four games. It's the playoffs last year. It's the playoffs a year before
It's the it's the NLCS the year before that like they had one clutch run and it was awesome
But the it is stacked up here over years that they are a team that when things get tight
And it's tight down at the ballpark right now because people want them to play well and they're not playing well
They don't play well. They can't handle it. It's just as what it is. I know you're sitting there smiling
I'm not it's upset like no one's more excited for Andrew painter than me
And it's unfortunate. He's being put in a spot today where his first start is a borderline must win game
And the fact that the veterans around him have let him down to put him in the spot is disappointing
What are we doing?
So Elliott when you you come back tomorrow
Yes, come back tomorrow. So Jeffrey Larry's going to speak here
I believe actually a little more than expected. So in about two hours
Okay, I'm so I got to get that back down to the to to the hotel for that
But yeah, I'm back tomorrow. So happy to come on anytime you want me to talk. Yes
