Boy, oh boy. Did you miss a show and I can't blame you. I can't blame you for turning off the game after having started in this one about as ominous as you can get.

1:10Quick one, two, three, tap of the first inning followed by and, um, Fugley is how I'm going to describe it a Fugley bottom of the first inning. This all the Dodgers said nine players to the plate and score three runs against rookie Bryson Mott to have control issues from the outset. Right away, you can tell, uh oh, we're in trouble here. Perhaps he was a little amped up for the start of now lay against a bunch of all stars and MVPs who can blame him? Who can blame him being on that stage, taking on that team and that lineup, but for a 45,000 people, I get it. But he was all over the place. I'm going to hear Wild Thing playing on repeat in my head as I watched him send pitch after pitch towards home plate. Most of them not even coming close to hitting the strike zone. Now it wasn't Rick Ankeel versus the Braves type of wildness. I wasn't like he was throwing them to the backstop, but he just had no command and no feel for any of his pitches whatsoever.

2:10And it was rough to watch. He faces 10 batters in total throws 36 pitches, only 12 of them were strikes. He had he walks out tiny to start the game, which we all know is a big no no. Then he hits our buddy Tommy Edmund of all the guys don't hit Tommy. We love time gets move you to pop out, but second pitch to future hall of famer, Freddie Freeman, a cookie fastball right over the heart of the plighties smokes it over the wall and center field for a three run home run. And I'm just like you at this point thinking, whoa, we got him last night. Dodgers are out for vengeance tonight. They're looking they're looking to make a statement. So this might get ugly pretty quick. Your next dinner is Rojas who bloops one down the line and right field for a double Jose for me playing second base last night. He was shifted towards the left field side of the infield. So he couldn't get there if he was like in his normal spot. Perhaps he gets there. He would have had the best chance, but long run for Walker long run for burlison.

3:10Ish happens right when you when you go with the shifts ish is going to happen. Then he walks Kyle Tucker. But after this is where the defense kind of bales and Brian Torres bales mountain left field after tasker Hernandez. It's a 111 mile per hour missile to left field that torus makes this nifty snag on and if he does it. It's probably five to nothing at that point. Then we get another walk to Max Monsey and now it's bases loaded to down for their number nine hitter hunter. Fiducius. Fiducius. Is that how they pronounce it? Fiducius. I know it's Italian. He pulls a ground ball off the bat that looks like it's going to make its way into the right field grass. Like it's going to be the hole between first and second and like a jungle cat. Alex Burlison just pounces out of nowhere just whoosh comes over dives to his ride. He snags it and from his butt throws an accurate.

4:15Toss over to Bryson mobs who's covered first base like he should be, which was good to see. And Burlison hits him and strike they get the out it ends the ending. Dodgers probably should have scored at least five in that inning or more, but things to two stellar defensive plays the cardinals keep it from getting super ugly right away. So three nothing ball game on the other side of things though you got Yoshi nobu Yamamoto. He's got a lot of absolute demon on the mound right and he is dealing through five innings. He's allowed one base runner a walk the Jose for me in the top of the third inning. And that was it. There were no hits. He had struck out seven. Now he did get some help from his defense on a couple plays specifically Rojas over its second play second base. He made a couple of really nice plays against the card knows but Yamamoto basically unhittable early on and you're like, man. I don't know if we're going to be able to crack it through this one man. This is this is looking bad. Meanwhile the cartels both then they continue to put up zeros. Mobs only lasted one more batter starts the second inning hits of Tony and Ali's like, I that's it we're done.

5:21And I would imagine they were hoping that Mons kids squeeze like three innings, you know, and kind of like he did last time when he came in but wasn't meant to be you only get one inning in this one. It was rough three runs two hits three walks in as the case with each appearance by any of these young players that we we've seen come up whether it's on the offensive side or the defensive side. You hope that it's just another learning experience for him, you know, the rookie had an off night. It was tough sledding. He did it he tried. And they got the defense was able to help him out, but you got to learn from it. You got to move forward. All right. That's just the attitude you have to have with the young team. But that springs the rest of the Volpin into action a little bit earlier than I think they expected, but Ryan Fernandez comes out gives you an inning. And the unsung hero in this whole thing, at least in my eyes is Gordon Grasepho. How good to Gordon. He's got a lot of stuff to look last night and how good is he looked recently. Oh my goodness.

6:21He fires three shut out innings. He strikes out six and he keeps the cardinals in it. You know, as bad as the start of this game was and as formidable as the situation seemed, it was still just a three run ballgame heading into the sixth inning. Yeah, you don't got any hits. You haven't done anything yet offensively, but it's still just a three run ballgame. This thing didn't get out of hand. And then it was just began to pick up or the St. Louis bats in that sixth inning. The comeback led by Thomas and JC and Joshua Bias. Who thought you'd be saying that in September. But it was fantastic to watch. It's why I'm wearing the ugly shirt today because series when we're going to talk about the comeback coming up next on lockdown card. That's a pitch comm issues remember like he's doing his warm ups and all of a sudden he's like I can't hear I'm not getting it. So they had to stop the game for a brief moment and you got to run the pitch come out there and check the battery and do all the stuff they do right and chip even mentioned something that I was thinking in the exact same moment like what if this throws off his rhythm a little bit like you know when you're when you're trying to get the same thing and you're just like. Tunnel vision of what's going on like nothing around you is even a thing that's how focused you are and that's how well things are going and then you get an unplanned pause like an injury or you know pitch calm or something in the scoreboard goes out whatever it may be that just kind of stops everything and it breaks your concentration for just a little bit. You know what I'm going to say I love that you can break everything that's been going right for you and when this happened I was just like chip I was like well let's see what happens maybe that's a little blessing in disguise for the car does it a little behold it worked I was a for me leads off the getting with an opposite field single beautiful piece of hitting by for me.

9:42I love it now all the pressure is off right you don't have to worry about history or being embarrassed or anything like that now it's just three run ball three run deficit we've come back from things like that before this is normal the hoopla is all done and one batter later we're looking at a one run ball game because that guy Thomas who JC steps up once again smokes his third home run of the series a laser over the center field wall and now the momentum. Wush this one over to the St. Louis Cardinals very similar to like Rocky for when Rocky finally cuts I've been drug finally cuts the Russian and his trainer is like you see he's not a machine he's a man the I'm a moto is just a man and now now you've heard him now you cut him Dodgers and a answering back at the bottom half of the inning which was you know it's unfortunate because like right when you get to a one run game and then to give it right. Back that sucks but it's movey bets and he's really good he's been good at baseball for quite some time now hits the two run shot off George Soriano not even a horrible pitch really by George but over the heart of the plate it was low over the heart of the plate

10:59movey bets like some low so that pushes the lead back to a three run game it's five to two and it could have been a lot worse for George it really could have gives up another single then he hits Dalton rushing but he gets Kyle Tucker to ground into the 463 DP to end it watching Kyle Tucker play and I said this when the Cubs wouldn't got him and when he signed that big contract with the Dodgers I'm just like I just never see. Why he's worth so much money like I know that he's won some awards is that I see that but I don't see passion I don't see energy I don't see excitement for the game a baseball lot of them when I watch him granted I don't watch him every game I don't. But this this dude is making $55 million this year thanks to that signing bonus 55 million he's hitting 227 with 11 dingers and 58 RBI's yikes now I know he doesn't have to be a superstar with the Dodgers but 55 million for that that I told you so told you so I didn't like him when Chicago got him I didn't like that so I don't see it I don't understand it back to people I do enjoy watching play though and that was the Cardinals last night the no quick cardinals answer again top of the seventh inning lead off double by Jordan Walker and then it's layover not in just his second game in the big leagues takes Yoshi nobu Yamamoto deep

12:25boom An awesome at bat lays off a couple of really tough splitters works the count full guy looks like a veteran out there. Particularly in this a bat. And guys I know it's only been two games and we're not supposed to get overly excited so it's kind of like what Joshua bias hits three home runs all right he's not the God of baseball okay there's still going to be struggles I expect them for for all as well at some point. The man does he look the part his swing looks so smooth from both sides of the plate I cannot wait to see his arm from behind the plate in action. You heard Michael McGreevy talking about how good his arm is during the telecast last night when they were interviewing him in the dugout and I can't wait to see it on display I'm so excited about Bernal like it just It thrills me that the Cardinals have guys like this coming up. It's awesome onto the eighth week go Dodgers decided to go to their left hander Tanner Scott so Ali counters and goes to the bench calls on Joshua bias to hit for Brian Torres nice little weapon to have off the bench right and he rips the devil down the line and left and now you got tying run at second base nobody out and you got the big part of the order coming up and what do we always

13:48See and hear from good teams just do your job right just do your job You don't have to do more you don't have to go up there and swing for the fences just do your job run or second nobody out Move them over right you find her or does that Doesn't well hits it hard to move some over now you got to run her in third one out and you got Alex Burleson coming to the plate It's a lefty lefty match up. We know that's the tough part for Alex Burleson, but what an it bad by one of the leaders on your team Eight pitches seven of them sliders by Scott that's the only through one fastball to Burley and I don't blame you I wouldn't be throwing best balls to Burley either he fast to all them off he was down in the count one two Like he was all set up to to have to strike him out and Burley fought and he fought and ends up lifting one deep to right field for the sack fly ties it up

14:50Doug Alco's nuts they're excited they understand how big this was a huge impact to say the least So now we got a tie ball game brand new ball game you were getting no hit for five innings and here you are tied with the Dodgers in the eighth Cardinals dodge a bullet in the ninth inning when Teasca Hernandez hits a one-out double off Justin Brull lefty righty match up What are you gonna do? Askers good hitter but credit to Burle credit to Burle who gets a Keke Hernandez to strike out massive whiff there I was all set up. I was like, yeah, they're gonna walk it off right, you know, it was fun This was exciting, but I was expecting it because you had After Hernandez you had the other Hernandez which was the righty and then they go to the bench They bring up Will Smith right they pinch it with Will Smith multiple time all star and it felt like this was gonna be one of those Those Dodgers moments they they get these walkoff hits all the time it seems and you got Will Smith through the crowd loves Coming back from the IL

15:50It's all set up for like something magical to happen for the Dodgers, right? And he crushes what the center field and after he hit it. I was like, oh man. There's the walkoff and All the sudden Nathan Church has gotten his glove in front of the wall like it dies at the wall I don't know how that ball didn't get out. I thought it was gone for sure But a harmless fly out third out of the inning We're going to extras, baby on extras where the Dodgers were undefeated at five. I know Cardinals a little more experience in this situation. We're coming in 87 in extra innings the Dodgers decided to go to their right-handed rock Stewart and he is properly met by a base hit from Nathan Church Which was awesome to see so now you got corners at you got runners on the corners at first and third And here comes the JC again now not quite as dramatic as the three home runs that he'd already hit in the first two games But he's down one two in the count and he does

16:51The simplest of things here. What do we talk about it earlier? Do your job? What's your job right here put the ball and play? That's what you need to do Don't be swinging to you know try to hit a home run or do anything crazy Put the ball and play put ball and play you got to run around third and nobody out Just put it play And say she's a JC does this and he uses a very Protective style swing that's all he was trying to do was make sure he got the ball on the ground and in play He knew what his job was and he fulfills it He's not hacking like a wildman up there that to ball That's all it was and it rolls slowly to second base and With the Dodgers shifted more towards the left side of the infield second baseman can't get there in time and Suggesty with its good speed beats it out of first base run scores cartels have the lead now they're win Doesn't even get out of the infield one of the biggest hits of the game and when you watch teams like like the Brewers who I

17:55Have talked about on this show many many times Them guys like the Tampa Bay Ray's do the same stuff they do less or they do more with less in situations like this Consistent damage they always have to hit a bunch of home runs brewers don't hit home runs are lead all Look at them here and there, but they're not a home run hitting team It's stuff like this of what we just saw from time to JC. That is what they excel at Situational hitting bat to ball skills get on base however you can and keep that carousel spending Keep guys on base keep it going around around around beautiful stuff by some JC That's followed up by a first pitch swinging double down the line by Joshua bias another one Which plates two more now we're looking at an eight to five ball game for the Cardinals and People start heading for the exits The Dodgers fans are like we're out. We're out. They're not they're not gonna They're not coming back on this one now. We have seen the Cardinals blow some leads in the past So I don't think we're out of the woods yet people already texted me like this is great

18:57Hold on Riley O'Brien's coming in this game to get a guide second to start things Let's say let's hold off before we start pop a champagne here, but he comes on in the ninth inning Pass ball by Herrera leads to another run scoring because that moves him over to third ground ball brings a man, but Riley gets Otani out on the strikeout. He gets Edmond to ground out. That's when they run scores. Mookie lines out games over Boom boom boom 35th save of the season for Riley O'Brien what an impressive comeback for a team that had everything Stacked against him over the first five innings like it didn't even seem like this was gonna be a fun ball game to watch I was like, ah man. I stayed up to the cover this Now I'm glad I did and again, that's why they played nine innings. That's why he played so the very last now you never know what's gonna happen and The Cardinals just did a lot of the little things Right and it led to big things and ultimately it went in the end and it was awesome to see three stars of the game coming out Plus a look at the playoff picture unlocked on cards

Thank you for making locked on the number one sports podcast network So much fun watching this game so many different stars that I want to point out and hopefully I got I mentioned all the people who deserve to get mentioned in this one I mean, I guess we go through every single guy in the bullpen because it all it took a collective effort to win this one But my three stars I'm gonna pick out the one guy from the bullpen that stood out above and beyond for me And that was Gordon Grispo he's my number three star The bullpen in general was great after Bryce and mozzus rough star things could have snowballed but they kept their team in the game Only the two runs and the fifth over the final nine innings that they had to cover

23:15Against that offense at that stadium that is exceptional That is exceptional Second star. It's tie It's tough by as in Bernal Who do I go with? I'm gonna go with both because you know what I can huge bats by both these guys Lay over and all hitting the two runs shot in the six thinning which brought them back within a run and brought them back to life after the muckey bets Dinger which could have zapped them You know you've gotten within run one run and then muckey go shard you know you could have been like Man, but no they didn't sit back. They went and attacked again It Bernal hits the two run home run via as pinch hit double and hits another double in the 10th inning Bring some the eventual game winning runs because the Dodgers did get a run in that ninth inning So he ends up getting the game winning RB eyes with those uh with those two runs in the 10th on his double These guys Bernal by as they they are futures the future of this team rest with guys like them And seeing them come through on a big stage like that

24:17Against the Dodgers man. Is that feel awfully good? To see them succeeding like this already. It's huge And yes, there are going to be bumps in the road. There are going to be failures How do they respond to those failures Joshua bias remember? It's three home runs and then he strikes out a hundred times It seems like in his next like six seven games, but look at him He keeps swinging. He's still hitting home runs. He's still getting extra base hits. He's getting on base He's contributing and this is a guy who's just who just got here. Just got him Never one star Man, we're gonna go with JC, right? You got to go with JC. How do you go with anybody else? That's that's a JC. There he is um Two for four Two run bomb two runs scored three ribbies doing all of this from the number nine spot You know how we always talked about the backend of the carnal's lineup has just been putrid for most of the season There's just nothing happening down there and You got to get that Line up flipped over again and somehow some way you got to get some guys on in front

25:20Normally who would be JJ weather hole in the top spot, but You saw what happened though. So JC gets on and ias does some damage and then all of a sudden you got Herrera and you've got Burley and you got Walker and then it gets it gets tough again for for opposing picture. So Huge night for him Me and on top of that holding things down defensively in shortstop while Mason win is out By he did as anybody I mean I know for me and set a couple of issues over in second But had they really missed a beat like that one double play they rolled up in that game when i think it was the Kyle Tucker one That's beautiful Beautiful you were above those two have been playing together for years. It was great So JC has appeared in four games since getting a recall from Memphis. He's now seven for twelve since getting back To the big leagues hitting five eighty three three home run seven ribbies and seven runs scored it's incredible stuff It's awesome. I love it. I love carnal's take the series from the Dodgers They are now four and one against L.A. this year and have a chance to sweep tonight

26:20Now they are going to have to face two times how young award winner Terrick Scoobull to do it but still We'll see what happens they weren't supposed to beat Yamamoto in the Dodgers last night somehow they figured it out We've seen him beat Christopher Sanchez from the Phillies like They seem to rise to the occasion when they're supposed to not do much Somehow some way they find a way Quinn Matthews gets to start for St. Louis I honestly didn't think i'd be bringing up the playoff picture much more this year But here we are man carnal's are back to three and a half within the N.O. Wild card The reds took two or three from San Diego. This is solid. Thank you reds Arizona shuts out the Phillies So they leap-brogged the Padres and are in the third spot marlins are two and a half back and one game in front of the car Padres and debacks off today Marlins who have won their last two will face Kansas City now is it likely like i don't want to get overly excited about Things and you know i'm not trying to say here they are they're going they're gonna make it i'm just saying It ain't gonna be easy The odds are probably against them that they're gonna keep pace with some of these other teams their payrolls

27:23The veterans they got the pitching staff that they got odds are against them But the youth that has come up bias Matthews for an all Guasty loom So jacy who still is only 24 i know because we've we're used to him and we've seen him a few times We're like uh we think he's like some 28-29 he's 24 But all of these guys as a collective have injected some life into this team and with Walker and Burley still crushing it These guys aren't quitting they're not and you don't have to believe in them if you don't want to and that's fine The naysayers continue to be sour on them all they want But they've already beat their expected win total from this year remember it was like 69 wins They won their 70 up last night and we've still got 20 some odd games to go They're 70 and 70 they got new blood in the lineup new blood in the clubhouse exciting young talent surrounding things I can't wait see what they do tonight.
