Have you over wondered what blessings you might be missing by trying to get ahead of God's timing? Welcome to His light, Your Path. Today, Pastor Rod Haller senior shares a devotional titled, The Blessings of Waiting. Drawing from Isaiah, chapter 30, verse 18, Pastor Haller shares how God's timing is perfect and how we can find hope even when it seems that God is silent. And now, here's Pastor Haller. Isaiah, chapter 30, verse 18, And therefore will the Lord wait, that He may be gracious unto you, and therefore will He be exalted, that He may have mercy upon you. For the Lord is a God of judgment, blessed are all they that wait for Him. The context of our Scripture is that Israel is in a terrible state of spiritual decay. The prophet Isaiah was sent to warn them of the coming punishment.
Eventually, Israel was invaded by Assyria and Babylon. They would suffer an exile. But Isaiah's message was not all bad. He gave them a message of hope. The punishment for their sins would be sure, but so would their future blessings. Israel needed to endure the hardships of exile, but they had words of great hope. Isaiah gave words of rebuke and he gave words of hope. Let us consider Isaiah 30, verse 18, And therefore will the Lord wait, that He may be gracious unto you, and therefore will He be exalted, that He may have mercy upon you. For the Lord is a God of judgment, blessed are all they that wait for Him. God moves his hand at his will. He moved the invading armies to attack Israel in his time.
He moved such that Israel would be an exile for time. But waiting an exile with the hardships therein would be very trying. Thus Isaiah gave words of great encouragement. Therefore will the Lord wait, that He may be gracious unto you. When we are under trials of life, then the delay of God seems like it will never end. But God is in control. He is never early, he is never late, he is always on time. Waiting can be trying. Hence Isaiah gave words of hope, that pertain to us, even today. God is intentionally waiting, but there is purpose to his waiting. He has plans of graciousness. In that delay is the promise that He will be exalted. Whatever is coming for Israel will give glory to God.
So Israel is to rest, knowing that their endurance will result in God getting glory. And if God gets glory through Israel, then Israel will surely be blessed. That blessing includes mercy from God. Thus Isaiah wrote, therefore will he be exalted, that He may give mercy upon you. See, God's delay is because He is a God of judgment. He is working, and Israel is to wait. When everything is ready, then God will show his hand. If Israel fails to wait, then they will miss the blessing that God has for them. God can see tomorrow, and we cannot. Who are we to tell God what to do, and when to do it? Like Israel, we will suffer at times, and we must trust that God is at work. He is always up to something good, and often that takes time, and we must wait.
Let us not get ahead of God and interfere with his glorious blessings, that He is preparing for us. You have just listened to Pastor Holler's devotional, the blessings of waiting.
