So I just want to give a shout out. It's a lot of a lot of Lockdown Mavericks episodes that we've been doing this nine.

2:08But no, yeah, she's she's enjoyed a lot of Mavericks things over the years. But yeah, a lot of why aren't you guys done? Are you guys done recording text? I'm so many. Hey, you've talked to Nick more than you have me tonight. I know the talk to your boyfriend. All right. Sorry. Sorry, bad. But no, 13 years. So shout out to Isaac and Barb Harris. 13 years. That's incredible. And yeah, so great. Today's episode we are responding to the survey results. We ask you guys to give your thoughts on the Mavericks this season. So we're going to go through the maps biggest strengths of this team, which I think was very interesting and very similar to last year. And then their weaknesses of this team. We'll get into those answer some other things about the survey. Well, let's start here. The biggest weakness of this maps team when we started to put together this survey, we started to ask the questions. And it's just like the things that we've talked about on this show over and over again. Okay, what are the maps still need?

3:08They need shot creation, playmaking, shooting. It's like they need offense. We also threw in their star power and defense. Those only got a star power and defense only got a couple of votes, which I found interesting as the biggest weakness of the team. Still, still some people still think that. But if you look at what the biggest weakness of this Dallas Mavericks team was, it's pretty split between 40% playmaking, which is the biggest chunk for sure. And then 28.5% shot creation, 26% shooting, which are all pretty sizable chunks to me. Like a bunch of Mavericks fans are concerned about those three things, playmaking the most, then shot creation and shooting both right after that. And that to me says that there's still a big concern about this Dallas Mavericks offense. And I don't think that that's unwarranted. I don't think that that's, I don't think you look at this Mavericks team and say, all they fixed the offense. Now, getting Kyrie back will be great. I think they added some shooting, but then they also lost Clay Thompson. And so that's maybe negates that a little bit.

4:09You go from Jason Kitt system to the Dusty May system. And I think that's probably where the biggest question mark is, is what does a Dusty May offensive system look like in the NBA that could maybe fix some of these things that the Dallas Mavericks, you know, that there are still big questions. But I think that the fact that all three of those big categories, like that a lot of Mavericks fans think are the biggest weaknesses of the team are all like offensive creation in some kind of way. Yeah, I think it goes. I want to say I think the biggest reason that comes out is the, is the, I think there was an expectation this summer, at least. And I think we're probably to blame for this too. Who's going to, who's going to be the other guard that go get and they're going to go get another person out there. It's like, yes, we have Kyrie Irving coming back, but they're going to trade for these so and so. They're going to sign, could they get Kobe White for the MLE? You know, it's like there, there's so many other like ball handlers, creators, playmakers, other guards out there that can handle the ball that we speculated about.

5:09And it's like, we just kind of expected them. It's like we expect to brand of Williams to not be here anymore. And obviously don't say X, I don't even know where X is playing next year if he's playing but it might still be on the Mavericks. But it was so like, Neymar has gone to. So yeah, yeah, Neymar's gone. So it so it was like, all right, well, what are they going to do? They're surely they're going to add another person out there and they just never did. And I think they added Sasser and they drafted Sergio, but it, those didn't seem like big enough additions to us to like solve this problem. Yeah, I think that's, I meant like post draft after Sergio, but so it's like, yeah. And I think it's more of a shift of thinking about the nausea part because I want to, I'll link in another question we had in here that I think it's easy to put in this category is we asked, do the Mavericks have enough playmaking outside of Kyrie and Cooper? Since playmaking is, you know, the, the 40% of the biggest weakness that you just showed a little bit ago, 88% of people on the survey said, no, they, they do not have enough

6:16playmaking outside of Kyrie and Cooper. So I think it's something that will definitely look back on as the season goes along of, all right, well, the fans and us, we kind of view this as a weakness. I have a feeling that they're going, that they're going to be asked about this at media day and into preseason of, hey, who do you see as like the ball handlers outside of like, who's going to be like the playmakers outside of a Kyrie and Cooper? And we're going to hear, I think we're going to hear about Sergio. I think we're going to hear about Nashi. I think we're going to hear about Sasser. And I think those three guys right there are going to be the ones that, well, they kind of proved the fan base wrong of do they have enough playmaking or not. Long time locked on aslisers will remember that people forget about Frank, the line that lots of Mavericks fans have said over and over again was about this very issue that we're talking about right now years ago when we interviewed Nico Harrison. Nico was on the pod at media day.

7:17He was first and only time. I think this was 2023. You think he'll come back on the pod? I don't think so. I think that that ship has maybe set sailed off into the distance. We had him on and we had him in the media room and we were like, hey, what is the backup point guard did not get a dress necessarily on this team? And he said people forget about Frank. He brought Josh Green, you know, in all this, who's the people forget about Frank on this team? I think Naji people forget about Naji. He can't handle them all so much for us last year. I think it's not. Naji or Sasser. I'll just say people forget that we added Sasser, maybe is the one. I think Sasser is the one that we just don't know about yet. I was even, so I read it. So whenever I had Polikitas on the show, I was reaching out and I was talking to people of the maps and I was asking about a few different people. And we were talking about Sasser about one of them. And I was like, but I was like reminded in that moment in that conversation from that

8:21person of like, hey, we haven't even done like an intro for Sasser yet. Like we haven't. And so I was like, I understood that. I was like, yeah, that's true. Like we haven't gotten any type of like intro. And I think that's just a reminder too of like we just don't know how the Mavericks view Sasser. And he's not somebody, he's not big enough name to get any type of like reporting or like you know, some inside scoop on of like the Avericks feel this way about Sasser. We just don't know. We don't know if it was kind of like, hey, we'll just taking or oh, we actually wanted to go out there and like go get him and actually see him as like a role on this team. Massive like dude, I think this guy is like legit dude in the rotation. So they could view him as a end of bench guy and he barely plays or they could view him as, oh no, like they could go into media day right now. I mean, would you, I guess it'd be kind of surprising, but would you be shocked if at media day they're like, dude, Mark Sasser's our back at point guard. He's going to be in the rotation. Oh no, not shocked at all. Or Dusty Mason something about, you know, we love, we love, we love, we love, we love

9:22our guys that are becoming off the bench. Sasser, Sergio, you know, Naji had a role for us last year. Yeah. I think they'll do the by committee thing again, which is the people forget about Frank Answer. I think that, yes, I think that will be the answer. But I just wonder if like it's internally how they're kind of viewing Sasser or if it's like a, this is one of the like one of the battles in training camp when, you know, Mike Schmitz did that interview on the fan, no, the ticket, sorry, sorry, sorry. Sorry. The fan is the visual radio. But he did that interview about Sturman, then, of like, hey, we're, you know, we like the healthy competition. We like, we want to see these guys go out there. And I think, you know, we've talked about Max Christie and Risa Shea, but I think this could be the one of the one of the competitions, too, is Sergio versus Sasser. Who gets that like kind of backup burn at the point guard spot in that playmaking role? Or they went on targeted Sasser for a reason. And the reason that is is they're like, hey, we think that he's very underutilized with

10:27this other team. And he's going to come in here and blossom. And we need to give him the amount of time to do that. And they just are going to pencil them in and think Sergio's more of a development guy and then that goes like that. Like you said, they could just come in and say that. But yeah, you're right. They haven't introduced Sasser. They haven't introduced Aldama. They haven't introduced Risa Shea. We haven't gotten to talk to Messiah or Schmitz or Dusty May about any of these guys yet and how they view them to even get any kind of clue in any way how they view these guys. So I think going back to the answer to the survey, the biggest weakness for the team, being shooting, you know, being shooting in shot creation to a lesser degree, but then playmaking is the number one thing. We don't know. I'm not sure who is going to answer that. The flag maybe takes a step forward. Obviously Kyrie comes back. Najee maybe plays a bigger role as the backup point guard, but there's big questions about that and Marcus Aster and Sergio De La Raya, the two biggest ones that could answer that in some way. But we just don't know how the team views views them just yet.

He picks him one spot before you on purpose. Listen, they were trying to do some stupid trade in the middle of the thing. We were trying to do like draft picks. I'm like, no, we're not going to do this crap right now. We're not hinge listeners. They were trying to do a draft night trade and fantasy. Yeah, it's like all because somebody took a cowboy and they're like, no, I wanted to want to do it with us. And I was like, no, like we're not doing this. Keep on going. And he's like, well, I'm going to choose violence. I'm taking a lot more. I'm like, I almost kicked Keegan right then. You almost kicked Keegan. Keegan, some highland park name looking. We're talking about the survey results from the listeners, the same listeners that stream sniped Lamar Jackson from you also answered the survey to these questions. One of the questions was, what's the biggest strength of this Maverick's team? The answers we gave as options were front court size, defense, star power, depth and

14:35bench. And if you look at the results, 45% overwhelming number said front court size, still the number one biggest strength, then depth and bench at 32%, 17% said defense and then only a small percentage there. What would end up being 5% said star power was the Maverick's biggest strength for this team. Very similar to what it was last year. We talked a lot about depth. Obviously talking about a lot of front court size, but there's no Anthony Davis coming in to this team. Derek Lively's injuries are a big question. But the front court size comes in with you've got lively, gaffered, you know, Musa C.C. Say more as sauntiel, Dama comes in and I think those two are big additions when it comes to front court size, Cooper Flag stays, PJ Washington stays. There is a good amount of front court size on this team, but I don't know if that's making it up, making up for the lack of playmaking and all the offensive things that we just talked about. And maybe that's just because we literally tried to make that argument all off season last year and then the not working because they never had that size actually play in

15:38enough games to matter. What did you what did you vote on this on this one? If I was going to go biggest strength of the map, see I'd probably go depth. I think they just have so many, you know, players this time around. Essentially just added guys and didn't even lose a ton of guys that we were really worried about necessarily. Brandon Williams is the one like I guess impactful one that they lost from like the end of the season to now. I'm not talking about the trade brand, the day and the day of straight or whatever, but they basically didn't lose any of what they lost play. Clay and Brandon Williams, I guess, are the two right? Yeah, I would go with depth and bench to I'm kind of fascinating because you go back to last year's survey and it was around the same amount. It was like 46, 47% of the highest percentage went to front court size. And to your point, you had Anthony Davis, you had lively coming off of year two. So it was like the first injury kind of with lively. So you didn't have as injury riddled lively in that, obviously gaffered.

16:42Then you come into this year and it's like almost unchanged. So it feels like and but it's like, all right, gaffered's back. Gaffered's is coming off like an injury riddled, weird year to where like, I mean, the maves been shopping him forever. Lively, obviously the big injury this past season barely played. You have a rookie and more as and then you bring in Aldama and then like CSA's back. And I'm kind of I guess I'm just kind of surprised that this was like the just like the outright winner of the percentage here. The biggest. Yeah, no, and I'm kind of fascinating about fan base is like response day. And I think I lean probably towards dimth and in bench, but I want to make the case real quick. All right. What do I say? You said dimth. That's right. It's a new word. So the dimth of this team is is fascinating. I guess I want to make the case real quick for the star power being the being like the and this was the lowest percentage.

17:42Yeah. Like 5%. If you think Cooper flag is going to make the jump to being a top like 30 player this year. And then if you're as high on Kyrie as what, you know, I feel like a lot of, I mean, we say here and did like the point guard, you know, rankings tears the other day. And we have him as what a top 10 top 12 point guard. It was both of them. Both of us had a had him as a top 10 point guard this year. And we still were getting like people like, how can you have this player? I didn't know I had him higher. And it's like, dude, I still have him top 10. Like he even play all next year. And I feel like I'm like super high on him. So if you believe Kyrie is that high in the point like one of the best point guards of the league and you think Cooper flags me to top 30 player, then star power has to be one of the biggest strengths of this team. And with especially when you look around the league, you can only have typically and it's because of money, typically like you basically have like a top two on your team back in the day, you'd have like a top three. But it's like you have like who's the top two like star power players on each team.

18:46And I don't know how many teams out there have two players that let's say top, let's just say top 40 to be safe. Like the Mavericks have two top 40 players. How many players out how many teams out there have a two top 40 players? I would say it, you know, half the league, maybe I mean, just top the top of my head and that. So I guess, yeah, I guess I was a little surprised by star power not being, you know, only getting five percent of the votes. And I wonder what would change that? I think you think it's more of a healthy Kyrie season would change that or Cooper flag ascending to like all star. I think the reason why this isn't very high is because there are questions about both these players. There's a lot of questions about Kyrie coming back from his injury being, getting all the back to being that top 30 player, like you said, maybe there's some, maybe there's more doubt about that in the fan base than we think. And then we just haven't seen Cooper flag B the all star all NBA guy yet.

19:48And I think that star power being your, which, which, which teams would you vote on to say star powers? They're number one strength. Like I don't even know if the team that had the MVP last year, I don't even know Oklahoma City is saying our biggest strength is SGA, our biggest strength is star power. You know, I don't know. I mean, would you say that about there? Would you answer what's the biggest strength of the thunder? And you would say over defense over depth, you would say it would be star power versus, versus depth. But the star power of SGA, Chatton, J. Dubb. I mean, you have two, you have three top top 30 players probably at that point. Yeah, they should say that. What about spurs? Would you say the same thing? No. That star power is not their biggest. With Wembee, because like, who's the second at that point? Fox, probably at this point, Harper and the fact that we made multiple answers to that is just that they have like Denver, I would go star power. Right. Denver for sure. Lakers for sure. You say that. I think Timberwolves, we probably say the same thing.

20:50Yeah. Warriors probably too with Steph Sacramento. I mean, you got a cuff. Ben Simmons. But I think it is. I think it is. It is like a fine line between what when you're it's almost like the teams that have an incredible star, but terrible supporting gas. You get the star powers your grace, your grace. That's a tough one. I thought about. Yeah. Did you want, did you want later on this week? Did you want to go back and do point guard ranking since Ben Simmons is back? You know what? I have thought about that. If you want us to do that episode to go back and re-rank to put Ben in, just make sure you drop a comment and we'll get on that. I kind of want to see it. Ben Simmons, A cup picket rule. The Kings locked on King, like shout out to James Ham. Like that. It's just he's going to need a ham this season. Can you whatever he wants, man? Yeah. Okay. I've had this. I've had this thing that we were doing are locked on top 100 and I've had this thing going

21:52where I have a have GBT come up with all the rankings of all these from all these different sites and composite them together. Yeah. Teams with top four two top 40 players, rockets, Lakers, Timber Wolves with it was with Randall, but now it's Lamello. New York, OK, C Orlando, Philly, San Antonio, Toronto, now with Kauai, Wizards. I don't know if that one's sticking around. That's great. But 80 and trade probably still top 40 players. Yeah. I guess so. Cleveland and so how many teams is that 10 11 teams? 11 teams. Yeah. See, I would put Dallas in that. I think Kyrie and Cooper top 40 players. Dallas joined that. There's probably some that were missing here as well. Yeah. I think Kyrie and Cooper are going to be one of the best duos in the league next year. If anybody of us are a young, our top 40 players, then Kyrie and Cooper flag should be top 40 players. Yes. Hands down. Interesting. Coming up, let's take a look back at the 2025 results compared to the 2026 results of this team.

22:55How have things changed? Both strengths and weaknesses of this team. We'll get into that in more. Today's episode of like the maps brought to you by square. You look at last year, the 2025 offseason survey. What's the biggest strength to this Maverick team? It looks very similar. Like you said, it's so funny. How similar it looks. 46% said front court size 32% said interior defense. 19% almost 20% said depth bench and only like, you know, 2% said star power. So compared to compared to this season, if you just look at that one, I think the difference is that

24:58the defense and depth basically switched. And that's kind of the only big, big difference. How funny that last year, 2% said star power and you had Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis. Well, we didn't expect Kyrie for a while. So that's true. Yeah, true. But and Cooper Black. What was the, okay, what was the depth bench? One was 19.6%. So almost 20%. Okay. So that jumped up to what 33% this year? Yeah. So I'm fascinated. Like, is that. I wonder how much of that is, because like, I believe that. But I wonder if the outside, outside the fan base would believe that. Because I think a little bit of that is like romanticizing the, the young new faces. And because like, I like, I'm all in on res, Sergio, Risha, shea, like, I'm all in in the sense of like, Hey, I think these are the type of moves you got to make. I'm excited to watch and play. I think a few of these guys are going to hit.

25:59I think long term, they're going to be great. But if someone from the outside looked in and said, yeah, you just, you got a bunch of young guys. They're kind of unproven right now. How can you, like, I would have heard that argument too, like trying to remove my, like, you know, so it's like, I kind of see that. I wonder, yeah, if a little bit has a little romantic. Hey, you drafted. The third best Michigan guy, which was not true. No, let me go through each one of them. This is what you, you could say you drafted the third best Michigan guy out of all of them. That's a twig. I argue them so much. This is the point. You're going to argue with all these. So slow down. All right. You drafted a European guy coming over that can't really score on, on his own. It's going to take a little while to get ready. You brought over Marcus Dasser from the, from the pistons who was a guy that scores the basket. And they needed somebody to score so badly on that piston team and didn't choose him over and over and over again. You brought over Santiago Dama, who is part of maybe one of the worst teams in the NBA.

26:59I sure the grizzlies and wasn't starting for them at times. You and is it, you know, is not a great rim protector is a seven footer and is not really sure what else he does besides shoot threes. You brought up a reason she's a failed number one overall draft pick that, you know, the rat, the hawks gave up on him. Basically, you lost Clay Thompson, you lost Brando Williams, who was a good point of attack guy. You could go through it and be like, oh, the map's off season was kind of like super mid. You brought over Teryc Bibervich, but if he was going to come over, you know, if he was going to be good, why hasn't he come over yet? You can hold on a lot of stuff in the summer if you really wanted to. What, the same time though, like if you compare it to last year and you look at, all right, that was 19% last year on the survey. It jumps up to 33% this year. And I think, I think we're the fan base and where I would agree with it is look at the depth last year. So outside of, you know, I'm looking at, I'm looking at opening night versus the spurs this past season. You take out Anthony Davis and Cooper flag. You have PJ, which is still here. Obviously you have clay, you have lively.

28:04Then you have Max and Najee off the bench. And then after that, the three, the three players who logged the most minutes off the bench in that game one was Nymhard D. Lowe and Brandon Williams. Then you had Dwight Powell, Jaden Hardy, C. Say and Caleb Martin, like, still on my dog. I would, I would hands down, take what we have this year over last year. The other thing you could say about the depth is coach is only going to play 10 guys. You're not going to play 11 guys. You're not going to play 12 and the maps maybe have like 15 guys that think that they can play. Yeah. Yeah. There's not one, there's not like one guy on the maps, 15 man roster that you'd be like that player thinks they're probably going to be hanging on the end of the bench this year. Probably Caleb Martin. We'll talk about Caleb Martin at all, but he started in the finals, you know, like, what was the, what was the weakness from last years? Yeah, the weakness from from the 2025 survey, 50% health. Obviously you bring in. Yeah, we took that out this year. I didn't want to take that one out this year.

29:0623% said shooting 12% said roster construction just straight up. 9% said point of attack defense and 5% said perimeter defense. So you combine those and it's about 10% said basically like perimeter defense. And we put in the question, biggest weakness outside of shot creation. Outside of shot creation. That's what we did last year because they, yeah, obviously, no, a kind of re and stuff. Shooting last year, like you said, it said 23% going into the season as the biggest weakness. I would say probably if we did the survey at the end of the season and said what was the biggest weakness this entire season? Shooting would be right up there because they didn't really do anything to address it during the season. Do we think that they did enough this off season to address shooting? I'm just laughing at the idea that we took out shot creation as the biggest weakness and had health on there and it ended up being 50%. So we probably should have taken that one out too. Like we would have had to caveat two weaknesses from that team. And both of them were awful for the maps and then shooting and we shooting would have been too obvious now too.

30:10Maybe we should have just kept all three and see which one. It worked. Yeah, I think you look at this, you look at this years. If we look at these, these weaknesses. It's going to be real. I just you mentioned you asked me about the shooting if they addressed the shooting enough. It depends on if Reese's share if PJs shot comes back. If you know, Reese's Shay can be good enough and take a step forward. If the bear which plays, if the bear which plays a lot, then yeah, then that's great. I think he won the one replaces what Clay brought you last year. Yes, I don't know if he's getting Clay minutes though. Maybe, maybe not, but if, but I'm saying if he does, Sassar will be another positive shooter that they brought in, which big Aldama, a big positive shooter in a different way. Like a seven footer. They did not have that on the roster at all last year, not even Anthony Davis because he didn't step out and take three like that. Flags guy. Well, it's like a shooter too. That's maybe one of the biggest areas. Yeah, that's obviously brought back.

31:10I read like that's the biggest shooting plus you can give a team. I know. I think that's the thing is like, did they add somebody to the rotation this, this offseason? That is a not plus shooter. That's maybe I know that that's that's the one. It's like they're bringing Najee back, but so I wouldn't like really count him. Yeah, it's like you look at the I mean, Kyrie's back incredible shooter. Like you said, Aldama, Sergio's good shooter. Risha Shay. I mean, I guess you can make the point of like Risha Shay of like he's kind of he's been at league average average. Yeah, for him to be really good, he has to be an elite shooter. So it's like obviously for bear rich, that's his thing. If res comes out and is like average at shooting, then that's a big win. Huge. He'd be shooting like 36%. Yeah. So I think that I think that they address shooting a good amount. I think the argument is, did they address it enough? Do we see this as a, I don't know, I don't know, I don't worry.

32:13I think you said I think a lot of it hinges on Cooper and I'm not worried about Cooper's outside chat. I think it'll be fun. And it depends on who plays the most. If it's for you know, running back Najee and PJ and Kayla Martin still, you know, still getting time. And they in bear rich doesn't play that much and all the guys you just we just mentioned like don't play as much as we hope then. Then they didn't address shooting enough. And how would they view them? And the thing that helps shooting so much that I think a lot of people forget about last year's playmaking helps. Shooting and you gotta have playmakers out there that can create and open up shots and just having Kyry Irving on the floor. We'll open up shots for some of these other guys like even if you put some of these other like shooters that they had on the team with last year's playmaking. They're probably not going to have that like creative percentages because you got to have guys that can create break down the, you know, break down the defense and create these open shots. And yeah, I think I think I think shooting will be at least better this year.

33:13You hope so. And they got pull a key to some two way and jet hard on two way. Yeah. Pretty so to snipe us to solid shooters for sure. And maybe lively will start taking three this year. This year's the year. You know, hold on to hope for that. Hey, you have more of one or a half or or three points you. Health. I would rather I would rather him be healthy and never take a never take a 15 footer again. How far out would you sacrifice him never shooting again whether for to have clean health 10 feet. Yeah, I think 15 feet probably 10 little even a little more than 10 feet. He's taking that little baby hook that he started adding. If you told me right now I could have healthy lively and he'll never take another shot outside of 10 feet. I would make that trade right now. I would make that trade to me. Well, the opposite he takes three is a barely plays like okay. Yeah. Now we're going to have some weird weird paths now.

34:13In the past, we've done the player fusion thing like hey, could we fuse these two players? Like if I confuse Naji and Bebearbitch, that'd be an incredible basketball player. Oh, that'd be good. We've done a fusion thing in the past and now we've done the these self limitation candy. We've done the handicap. Hold on, Mo and res. That'd be great. I'm down for that. There you go.
