1:08Let's get started with a look outside and see what's going on with our weather here for today. Wipping around the bend area. 72 degrees partly cloudy skies in the county seat of Jackson County, Ripley West Virginia. A bit warmer here in Ravenswood 75 and Fair conditions here. Down the Ohio, Pomeroy, stop in there at 74 and sunny skies. And then hopping back across the River Point Pleasant checks in 75 and Fair Conditions while Galapalice, a few more clouds 75 and partly cloudy conditions. As we go through the day to date. Going to be a nice day out there and joy it while you can because it will be quick mostly sunny skies the high today topping out around 88 degrees. Tonight we see clouds start to move in they will increase as we go through the evening along with it the possibility of showers and thunderstorms.

2:14Better chances overnight tonight than during the evening so keep that in mind it will be rather wet tomorrow morning for the commute so be prepared for that. Chance a rain about 60% the overnight low dipping down to 70. Tomorrow showers and storms throughout the day most likely for the early afternoon and also for just before midnight. Tomorrow evening as well showers could be heavy at times we could be looking at three quarters of an inch of rainfall for the entire day tomorrow so keep an eye on those creeks and streams. If you live close to them high tomorrow of 79 the low at 64 Friday looks like a good day out there partly sunny skies to start off we'll see some clouds move in for the evening so should be a nice night for high school football. The area do have the possibility of some overnight showers Friday into Saturday only about a 20% chance though high near 81 on Friday your low of 66 Saturday we've got partly sunny conditions for the day mostly cloudy for the evening along with it some chances of some late morning early afternoon and early evening showers as well as

3:39so be prepared for that 60% chance high near 84 on Saturday in your low around 68 we look to dry on on Sunday partly sunny to partly cloudy conditions the high near 85 the low around 60 Monday mostly sunny to most partly cloudy skies high near 86 the low around 69 and then on Tuesday mostly sunny 30% chance of showers the high near 88 degrees so there's a lot of rain. So there is a look at your forecast for the upcoming week here in the bend area will have to dodge the rain showers tonight and tomorrow and it looks like on Saturday as well other than that looks like it's going to be pretty good week it is going to be rather hot out there when it is not raining so just take it and stride folks that's what's going on. All right on the program today we're going to be joined here in a couple minutes by Cheryl Miller where of many hats here in Jackson County and in particular in the Ripley community today we are specifically going to be chatting with her about the Ripley alumni Ripley High Alumni Association and some things that they've got going on she did an interview yesterday on the valley today with Tom talking about the Vallejo.

5:03She's a Viking ship project that they are going to have done here before homecoming and got a call from her yesterday evening saying that there were some things that she forgot to mention in all of that some other projects that the association's got going on so we'll catch up with her about that here coming up in a matter of minutes so we'll have that we will tell you about some things making news today here in West Virginia and Ohio as well. We will talk about at least we will hear from TJ Meadows and his commentary from over at WVMETRONUES.com this morning we'll have that coming up for you and we'll also tell you what else is coming up on WMOV for the rest of the day and this week. Just a quick programming note for you coming up this Friday we will be preempted. All right, joining us on the phone this morning to chat with us a little bit of a follow-up from her interview yesterday on the Valley today with Tom Susman is Cheryl Miller, as I mentioned in our opening segment. Where of many hats in the Ripley community, but today specifically we're talking about her involvement with Ripley High School Alumni Association to talk about some other things that they've got going on with the school.

9:46Cheryl, it's always a pleasure to get to chat with you. Thank you so much for reaching out and making time to talk with us this morning. Well, thank you. It's always a pleasure to speak with you as well. Before we get into some of the other things that you wanted to talk about, your main appearance yesterday on the Valley today, talking about this project that's going on about a Viking ship that's going to be assembled out in front of the school and have it done before homecoming later this month. Can you give us just a brief overview on what's going on with that? Absolutely. We are so excited. We've had this plan for well over a year to bring another piece of Viking art to the school. And this time it involves the Alumni Association logo, which is the Viking ship, and it will be constructed of the same aluminum, once again donated by Constellium. It's 15-8 by 18-8 in size. And as you come upon campus, the exterior wall that says Ripley High School to the left of that is quite a large blank space.

10:58So I'm pretty sure it was just held for us all these years about knowing. And that's where the Viking ship is going to be mounted. And I heard in the interview that you did with Tom yesterday that this is the Alumni Association design on this that was originated by Courtney, whose last name is escaping me right now. Mike Rubin had a hand in this as well. And we know what Ripley High School meant to Mike in his life. What does it mean to use this as part of this project to keep his legacy going? It's very near and dear to our heart. You know, he was very one of a kind. We always called him Mr. Ripley, of course. And yes, there is a personal connection there, and we're really thrilled to be able to honor him and to showcase that work that he and Courtney. It was Courtney Schengstadle, who helped him create that design. So very, very touching.

12:06Cheryl Miller joins us here on the final couple on WMOV this morning talking about some things going on with the Ripley High School Alumni Association. Before we went on the air, Cheryl, you were telling me about a number of folks with the association, a number of volunteers that took on a lot of projects around the school this summer. What can you tell me about the Alumni Association being there on the campus this summer? Well, we started the summer off. Once the teachers and students evacuated, the alumni stepped in. There was a small group of us, Melissa Hatcher, Jeanette and Dave Wheatcraft, G.P. Peters, W.C.C. Descarbrough, and D.E. Parsons. We just showed up most every week of the summer and primarily painting. We started at the back door as you exit the gymnasium.

13:08There was a kind of an abandoned space there. And the first thing we did was bring some river rock and some shrubbery to that area. Then we noticed the door was a little faded. So we thought, well, we'll just paint that door. Then that turned into painting a few more doors. Then if you believe all in hold, there were 92 doors painted over the summer. Then we moved into the senior lobby. If you come in the senior doors, we completely refresh that entire area, painted it, added new stripping at the bottom. That's a work in progress. We have a few more things to do. That's going to be a pretty big surprise in October. Some work is coming there. We moved into the lobby and we took all the trophies out of the trophy cases, cleaned them, dusted them. We had Charlie Peterson come and take professional pictures of each one of the trophies so that we could create a file on our Facebook page so those could be viewed.

14:16Then we added it down to the most recent trophy so they could be highlighted. That led to decluttering the walls, painting the walls with the help of Magnolia Paint Company. It's a whole different look. It's just very bright and airy and refreshed. Now there are three focal points. We're currently working on another piece that's going to go into the lobby as a focal point. That should be ready in the next couple of weeks. Yeah, just lots of things to brightness space to give the kids a sense of somebody cares. I think that's one of the big things. We want the students and the staff to know we care about them and we're there. I know anybody that graduates from Ripley High School, there's just this pride that they just have about being a Ripley Viking and you know for you guys with the association to come in and do all of this work.

15:20I'm sure is just really, really appreciated by the community. How has the Ripley High School student body teachers, the administration, the general community, how have they reacted to some of the stuff that you've all done so far? Well, the alumni always have a back to school breakfast for the teachers on their first day and then we do a luncheon for them. And that morning we were just overwhelmed by their response and their gratitude and their appreciation and their hugs and they were so delighted to come back to that fresh look. And then right after school started, we were still working. And so one morning it was a really hot day. We were down painting the sidewalk rails going from the annex up to the main building and the fire lane there. We were doing all that work. So all throughout the day is the students were changing classes. We're out there painting and many of them would stop and say, oh, it looks good. Thanks. Are you guys okay? Do you need water?

16:23And they were just interacting with us. And so then around 11, 30 or so several of the students came out and said, y'all need a break. Give me those paintbrushes. And I was like, no, we can't make you late for class. And they were saying, oh, no, it's our lunch. So five or so of those students stopped on their lunch period and just started painting with us. That says a lot, doesn't it? Absolutely. That says a lot that these kids were willing to take time on their lunch break to come out and help you all. And again, I think that's just very defining of the spirit of Ripley High School and the students that they had there. All right. Cheryl, for anybody that is interested in the Ripley High Alumni Association and joining up, how do you recommend that they go about doing that? Oh, we would love for them to join us. The third Monday at the board office at 6 p.m., we meet each month and we have a wonderful time.

17:24We're very aware of precious time that's being donated. So the meeting's regularly lasts no longer than an hour. And we get a lot of work accomplished, but we also have a wonderful time and laugh and fellowship. And it's just so much fun. And if they want to, because I know not everyone's available to do meetings, but if they want to become a lifetime member, that's $50 for a lifetime membership. And they can get that to one of the officers or mail it to post office box 921 Ripley West Virginia. That's our alumni address. And we can take care of it that way. All right, Cheryl, before I let you go, is there anything else that you want to let us know about what's going on with the Ripley High Alumni Association or any other products you can give us a little bit of information about that are coming up for you. Well, I always have a list and Dale Rubin, our president has informed the list and I that we are not allowed to announce any more projects until we finish this one.

18:29So we will honor that request, but we are a tiny group, a small mighty force of a group with a lot of energy and ideas. And we just want to make our students and our staff and our community, you know, have that sense of school pride and morale that you mentioned and yeah, move forward. Well, Cheryl Miller, it is always a pleasure to get to talk with you about the amazing work that you do, whether it's with the Alumni Association or what you're doing with the explorers museum here in Jackson County or on the City Council there. 22:42All right. Got some breaking news out of Mason County from earlier this morning to touch on really quickly. Multiple outlets reporting a fire has claimed the life of a person. Happen earlier this morning around 3 a.m. at a residence along state route 62 in the Leon area. Mason County authorities said one person died in the fire. A second person suffered burn injuries and was transported to a hospital. The fire marshal is investigating things that what caused the fire. That is from Metro news and a lot of other outlets reporting the same thing. So we'll be keeping you up to date on that as we learn more information on that there out of the Leon area of Mason County. All right. The P. S. C. has rejected requests to delay the hearing until early next year. The moral line proposed the pass through parts of Moningay. The P. J. A. P. S. the mineral and hamster counties that hearing now scheduled for October 26th. The power grip P. J. M. which has been calling for projects like moral is getting some pushback. There have been some protests in recent weeks outside the P. J. M. offices near Philadelphia read more about that at our website. Nuclear maybe the next option for power in the mountain state. The Trump administration has agreed to place West Virginia on a list with five other states for consideration for what's called a nuclear life cycle innovation campus. 26:14On this Wednesday I'm thinking about the media frenzy surrounding the midterm elections. The corporate press is collapsing ratings are terrible on television.
