Dave Roberts here. There you are surrounded by fans, sharing wings, sharing drinks, high-fiving random strangers. Everybody remembers the game. Nobody remembers the guy coughing behind you until a few days later. At 2am, you wake up with a fever and your throats on fire. Now what? Urgent care, clothes, ER, slam, telehealth, maybe, but the pharmacy's clothes. You needed a medical emergency kit. These aren't first aid kits. They contain essential prescriptions used for over 30 common conditions. Sinus and ear infection, UTIs, stomach bug, travelers diarrhea, and more. On hand before you need them. Use your doctor-developed guidebook to select the right prescription or call their telemedicine doctor standing by. It's like an urgent care and drug store at home. When you're sick, traveling, or stranded, you'll wish you ordered a medical emergency kit. Order online in minutes and it's shipped to your door and say $45 with my promo code blue at urgentcarekit.com slash blue. That's promo code blue at urgentcarekit.com slash blue.

A lot of things happening in and around the Ripley area, joining us to talk about some of the things going on is Kelly Adcock with the Main Street Ripley

folks. I tell you what, Kelly, every time I turn around there's something else happening and just it's fun to talk about. First off, tell me about this hero's parade. So you know how patriotic and proud of our community we are here in Ripley, in Jackson County. Every year in the anniversary of 9-11 we have a hero's celebration. This year the hero's parade is on Saturday, September the 12th. The parade starts at 6 with a cookout in barbecue and celebration of our first responders to follow. The parade will start at such Miller, Carla in Ripley and it will end at the Starcher Mansion which is where the cookout is and we are going to be celebrating our first responders, our police, our EMS, our firefighters which in Jackson County are all well in here. So we want to make sure that those people know how much we appreciate their contribution to the community and all the good things they do and how much they

take care of us. And so for the first day we're going to take care of them. You know it's a thankless job that they do and they do appreciate when a city like Ripley steps up and just you know sends them a thank you card with this type of event. And they really do. Our local guys take really good care of us. They're active with our youth in the school and the youth sports. They take care of our elderly in the community. They do all kinds of things that we don't really realize. You know people think police officer and they think you're writing a ticket or whatever but our guys are fixing your tire on the side of the road making sure your kids get home from school safe and our first responders in this county as everywhere are just they have big hearts and big skills and we really want to show them we appreciate them. Hey tell me about this. Yeah, when is it again? September the 12th at six o'clock. Tell me about the cruise in. That is September the 18th and it is at there's a cruise

in car show registration is free. First 25 cars registered. We'll get a free sisters bar with you dinner. Cruising and cooked out on the courthouse lawn from four to six cars can start lining up at 330 and it is a fundraiser for the Alpine cruise fund and so bring out your any and your classic car baby your motor cycle your full wheel anything you want to show off all anything's open we're going to give away a fan favorite trophy and how you're going to win that as you can get all your buddies to come in and vote your baby to fan favorite with their dollars so they're going to be able to buy tickets to vote for their favorite vehicle and the vehicle owner that has the most votes is to take home the trophy and all the money is going to help us fix the roof of the Alpine and let's talk about the moth man I mean up at point pleasant I think I think people are already starting to stand there and everything getting ready for the

festival that's coming up but Ripley is going to be part of it and and I guess the moth man movie has now been moved outside. I think we're going to have men and black we're going to because of the repairs and things on going at the Alpine we maybe look at it having that outside on the courthouse lawn or some plate similar but we do have a movie in celebration and we want to invite everybody to come out and take off the moth man weekend early we're going to support our neighbors in point pleasant but also enjoy some quality Ripley time as well so you can come watch the car show and then stick around for the movie. That movie came out and I think summer of like 97 and I mean and it's it just keeps on keeping on kind of thing. Exactly Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith I will remember forever we got about 30 seconds left and I know we've got the another event coming up if you can kind of preview it a little bit the taste of Ripley. We do we want to save

the date for October the 18th taste of Ripley at leave this year it's going to be from 3 to 7 and we are really looking forward to showing off all our amazing food vendors in Jackson County so it is going to be at 4th United Methodist Church on the 18th so put that date on your calendar October the 18th and again don't forget the heroes parade on September 12th get out there and thank everybody that makes sure your life is safe. one score what did you see out of that side of the ball it was it's like night and day they um I think we held them to a hundred total yards and actually the score was on a punt return so our defense actually you know it's considered a touchdown but it was an our defense on the field so I was really proud of the defense they are really getting locked in and and we're playing next football again back to normal does that give you a sense of pride when your team responds to adversity and steps it up from week to week it really it really does because we could have easily you know folded a little bit or start having some self-doubt but like I said before and all the interviews I've ever done is that commitment these kids have made to the program in the offseason shows how much they truly care and there's no quitting these guys they believe themselves they know that they're good football team and we bounce back into right what and who uh who got the game balls some of the individual recognition for the marauders the other night well I'll tell you offensively it's hard to argue gutter Cleveland and Griffin Hudson not grew gunner went 19 to 25 for three hundred and forty plus yards of five touchdowns and Griffin had 10 receptions 185

and four touchdowns and then we also had Owen Tracy in that group that had eight or nine receptions for like a hundred and thirty yards and a touchdown too so that was a really good performance offensively defensively I think we got our defensive player the games to our uh safety in our corner that got the picks I thought they came into crucial time and based on last week's play and and uh we'll play we'll put that on the coaching staff and myself as responsible for that that you know we should have been in that kind of look last week instead of maybe playing the man coverage that we tried against Sims Valley and hindsight you can't go back and change it but hindsight I wish you to stuck to that instead who are the main communicators on your defense from the people on the field to the sideline what's what's got of the chain of command there well I've went back to calling the defense so we got coach Yates's back calling our offense which is a great thing and then I so I communicated out there to our Mike who makes the strength call and then we have our Sam Mike and Will and our safety communicating beverages and blitz packages so there's multiple communication things going on and uh that's one thing great about this group of

kids are very smart they're intelligent they they do a good job with those types of things that is Meg's high head football coach Nolan Yates then boys high school soccer last night the point plus and black nights blanked the spring valley timber wolves foreign ill at home points geo allegra with all four of the goals the Dodgers edged out the reds three to two last night on the west to rig scuba picked up his ninth win of the season given up four hits in seven and a third have a good one it's been Michael Sussman with your look at sports brought to you by mainstream furniture and Florian in middle ports this is this date in reds baseball with team historian Greg Rhodes riverfront stadium home of the reds and the Bengals opened in 1970 one of the many round multi-purpose stadiums that opened in the 60s and 70s when riverfront first hit the drawing boards in the mid 1960s it didn't have an official name many were suggested as the opening approached queen city stadium buck i bull how crossly stadium kneel arm strong stadium after the

bit of fun on the rick mergers show here on the voice of the mid ohio valley wmov you can also listen in the wmov on the go app available at the app store this is the rick mergers show well a lot of producers are looking at their fields right now to do some work on them and joining us this week is john david johnson agriculture specialist with west virginia state university john david um i think one of the things they need to be thinking about right now is lineman your fields tell me more that's right uh you know fall was a great time to to start looking at getting some lime on those fields starting to correct that uh blower pH if you if you definitely have a low pH you know this part of the country we do struggle a bit more with keeping that pH up just because you know we do not have a limestone base under our souls like you know a lot of different areas and Kentucky and even down in the green brine and row area they have more

lime cell based and we do right here in the ohio valley so you know generally our souls will drop a little quicker in in pH levels so we definitely need to keep an eye on that and if you're not sure what your pH level is you know i would definitely encourage you to take a soul sample uh wve offers a free soul sample just google wve use soul sample form in a pop right up print it off get a couple of soul from different you know uniformed area just a uniformed area probably if you're pat you're looking at a pasture you're looking two to three inches deep little plugs that you pull all over the uniformed area to get an average makes it up a couple of that soul and is up a bag and then the form send it in but that's also going to tell you a few other things we're not going to talk about today but pH is one of those things and it's very critical because pH affects everything all right you know uh the pH is off everything's going to be off

it's actually you know of a low pH or even a very high pH uh it can actually start to bind up the nutrients in the soils that will you know affect the uptake of those nutrients by the plant so you know it it it will really affect the uptake of those nutrients so you could have great phosphorus and potassium levels but your plants will be off if if that pH is low so i like to apply here and or you know start to apply for fall because sometimes it takes six months after spreading egg lime for that actually to get that pH change where you want it to be because especially with different rates of lime every lime is you know a load of lime that you know you get or valley or roll waste all wherever you're you're looking there um you know yet it has a different quality to it okay uh so there's a couple little things and the

old lime should have a tag that comes with the load that tells you certain things uh cce values uh carbon calcium equivalency is this is what cce means and that needs is a percentage and that needs to be above an 85 percent okay uh that's uh the sign of a good quality life and there's also screen size is you know you have your hundred count screens either i think is eighty-six and forty i do believe um and the you know the higher the number the smaller the screen size uh so that means the more that passes through that hundred count screen size it's fine okay so you want to if you look at the screen size and you see a large amount of it going through that you know sixty eighty percent of it going through that hundred count uh screen size that's for decent life i mean that's actually going to get down there and start to change pH a lot quicker

than when it gets through that uh you know sixty and forty you know all of it should hopefully pass through a forty count because it's not you got gravel so a lime stone instead of a ag lime now you know that you know those big quilts that are hard that's going to sit there for a long time you know it's going to take years for them to break down but the finer the lime the more surface area the more quicker it's going to actually get down in that soil and uh take effect change at pH and increase at pH for you uh and you want to shoot for a 6.2 to a 6.7 pH is usually what we're looking for economically in these pastures and gardens and it goes the same way with gardens too so getting that pH is very critical and applying it right now in the end of fall will get you where you need to go you know come planning season of of next spring or or you know when we start to turn

on pastures next spring so if you have any questions on lime feel free to give me a call 6.2.2.2.2.2.3.5 John David Johnson here on WMOV and i'm Joe Stevens reporting for WMOV News home national bank your banking home home national offers personal mortgage and business loans see home national for all your checking and savings needs home national bank located in Racine Syracuse Middleport and Ravenswood member FDIC equal housing lender and our MLS number 583473 when you bank with home national bank you're banking at home so come home to home national bank online at home and atlbank.com hey folks this is the mild-bendered 40 man you know as you travel around the bend area you can listen to us everywhere you go simply by downloading our app at the Apple store or Google Play when you do you'll have access to us wherever you go whenever you go and don't forget to join me weekday mornings from 6.9 right here for a splash of dash in your

favorite songs from the 70s on 1360 am 93.5 and 106.9 FM WMOV hello it's Michael Sussman here with your little sports practice by mainstream furniture and flooring in middleport the makes our football team bounced back Friday with a 397 home win over Liberty Union up next the marauders go to Vinton County where head coach Nolan Yates was a standout player in the 90s with coach Yates who did you play for at Vinton County I played for coach Jack or Rourke I got what's what was the program and the community like back then now it was it was special football in the 90s we were five times TBC champions and we split with Nelsonville they were five times also that during the 1990 to 2000 and you know my four-year stretch I think we lost six games total so we and we made the playoffs lost to I can and the regional finals my senior year so it was a special time in Vinton County at the time a lot of participation a

lot of really good football players and those coaches were great coaches to Jack or Rourke Tom Rebes our defensive coordinator he was a great coach also so yeah it was special back then did you play against mex we didn't think she's doing our league then yep still played against mex I got you do you remember your record against them uh yeah for now I hear he is we're here with uh coach Nolan Yates so you'll walk past the the statue of yourself and then you get into the stadium what jumps out uh with Vinton County there's no statue of me in the stadium that's for sure so but uh but I will say this uh Vinton County is very very much improved they scored 109 points in the last two weeks so they've got a senior laden group so a senior quarterback senior running back two senior receivers uh that I knew I know very well I actually coached those guys and little little league stuff that we had back in the day and um so they're going to they got to they're right in high they got a lot of confidence they come into them on so we've got to take that

confidence away very early and very quickly and and continue to play team football and and uh play 48 minutes Friday for Southern it's a seven o'clock kickoff at green tornadoes head coach Cassidy Wilford with a breakdown so what's uh what jumps out on tape with green yeah they like to throw the ball they're 70% pass uh a lot of spread sets a lot of empty sets uh quarterbacks really good about getting the ball out super fast um so we're going to have to tighten down our defense a little bit um try to cover down receivers a little tighter than we normally play uh and we're just going to really have to get after the quarterback uh defensively they're uh they're an out front with a lot of pressure so we're going to have to use that to our advantage and uh get them out of position a little bit um they're a young team super young team I think they only have three seniors on the team but they play hard um and those young guys are getting valuable reps and they're getting better each week so you know we're we got to work cut out for us like I said they like to air it out so we're just really going to focus on our our coverage and getting after quarterback have a good one it's been Michael Sussman with your look at sports brought to you by
