Hey there, everybody, and welcome to Morning Run. It's already Friday Eve September 10th. I'm Amy Robock. Yes, hello everybody. I'm TJ Holmes on this Friday Eve.
I guess Eve September 10th. Looking up there, yes, tomorrow's a pretty week anniversary. It's our last 25th anniversary. We are right here in the neighborhood. We've lived down here for a long time and we walked by and reflected daily. That's the foot prints of the tower. So yeah, Rose didn't, I guess, and looking at, we've seen some of the stuff on TV and a lot of coverage of it. Looking at September 10th, it kind of just hit me differently in front of me. Yeah, you know, and we actually walked by it yesterday. And it was cool to see how many people have already begun to gather a much bigger crowd than we usually see on TV. A lot more flowers placed along the memorials. It was, it's always moving walking by, but especially when it comes close to the anniversary. And this is a big anniversary, as you point out. I feel good. The tone and the mood for whatever reason is good. The security was, as you would expect, and they're getting set for the ceremonies and whatnot tomorrow. But yes, hello everybody on this Friday Eve, wherever you might be. Hope you're getting a good start to your Thursday. We'll be making a number of stops along the way today.
We'll make a stop at the gas pump. We'll make a stop at Studio H in Rockefeller Plaza. Make a stop in Massachusetts, Texas, Florida, Pennsylvania, as well as Coupe, Perteno, California. But let's start ropes in Texas. He's added again. Yes, that's right. And this is a record scratching moment that's going to require some explanation. The president just promised every adult in the United States of America a $5,000 check. We're not making this up. Yes, this all occurred as he was being featured at the Republican midterm convention. A first of its kind last night when he revealed the payments. Obviously, there has to be a catch. Yes, Republicans have to win. If Republicans win the house and the Senate, then you get your $5,000 check. Now, ropes, he didn't say there was a catch. He didn't say you had to vote this way. He didn't say only Republicans are going to get it.
He didn't say anything like that. Just every adult in the US is going to get $5,000 as the Republicans win. His exact quote. If the Republicans win the house and the United States Senate, I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America for $5,000. It, of course, is going to be called, robes, a Trump dividend. And he said the money also would have to be spent in the US. How are you going to police that? Question one. Question two. Is this legal? There it is. Because it certainly sounds like he's buying votes. Who knows? So, ropes, this might be legal. There's some wiggle room in there because he is not telling you how to vote. He's not telling you you have to vote. He's just saying this will be the result if we win. There might be some legal wiggle room. That is absolutely insane because obviously if you want the $5,000,
the Republicans need to win. The choice is yours. Yes. But you're being incentivized. That's the other thing. It is. It is. There is dusting to be influenced. Given to you by the American taxpayer. Okay. Remind you though, one other thing, Rob. This is not a new thing for him. Your doughs check. Did you ever get it? No. You didn't. Your tear of rebate check. Did you ever get it? No, you didn't. He's promised these big things before and they haven't come to fruition. It got everybody's attention when he said that. Speaking of promising, he's been promising that the war with Iran was going to end almost immediately for quite some time now. How many months are we? Seven months and he was telling us what four to six weeks when he first started. Correct. And we've heard that it's basically over. The deal is done. They're shaking in their boots. Well, next up in the run, President Trump has firmly declared now when the war with Iran will end. Circuline on the calendar, baby. He was taking questions from reporters on the tarmac as he was about to board Air Force One heading to Texas to the convention.
Here was his prediction. Say, quote, I think the war is going to end immediately after the election. They can't hold out any longer. They're desperate to try and affect the election so that we can get a nice, weak group of people in there and leave them alone and let them have their nuclear weapons. Okay. So Americans are already seven months into this war, hearing, okay, we got to go at least nine. That's not in close to a year now. They don't want to hear that. And Republicans now, robes who have the next two months to go out there and campaign. They have to stand by the war and they can't say it's going to end soon. It's going to end. Rolls, we got another two months, at least according to the president. Also, this was worth noting, robes. This, this jet of his. Yeah. What is going on? He was delayed. Once he got there, he was about to board. And the emergency slide had been deployed on the new Qatar jet. A little concerning. Well, it's concerning that they won't give a straight answer. To was this a part of some test or was this an accident?
Now CBS, other outlets are reporting. Yes, this was an accidental oops spot that somebody might have done. But the White House keeps going around it. Yes, it was part of whatever. They always want to make sure the plane is secure checked out. That's part of, you know, the systems check. You know, we just deploy the emergency slide just to see if it works. That happens in every flight. What are you talking about? Why not just be straight about something that simple? That's what's so frustrating. He was delayed about 20 minutes. If you can't be honest about things that are happening that we can see with our own eyes. Just the slide. How can we expect you to be honest about things that we might not be able to see with our own eyes? What's up with this plane? Just like. Just acknowledge it. Like, yeah, the pilot accidentally hit deploy emergency exit. Never got it. Whatever it is. Never got it. Or might have been it. But what if it was a glitch in this lemon of a plane? It seems that he got from the Qataris. Oh my goodness. It hit the $40 million limit. It keeps having problems. It's not equipped to do this. Now the thing's just deploying. Emergency slides deploying. Okay.
Also speaking of the war with the Ron and the impact where the ripple effects here are in around the world. Oil prices officially went over that $100 mark. $100 a barrel. It happened once again for the first time since July. And we know what that means. Higher oil prices. Absolutely equate to higher gas prices. And right now we're sitting at about $4.27 a gallon. Big deal because we were about $4 a month ago. So keep an eye on that. Head down to Florida now for the next lick of our run where a judge there. I could probably see her point on this one. She says she's not convinced that the tape brothers are not a flight risk. And rule yesterday they'll have to stay in jail while they fight extra charges. So the question. Tristan and Andrew Tate the leaders of the manosphere to a certain degree. These influencers were arrested in Miami in July. They're facing nearly 60 charges of rape and sex trafficking back in the UK. And they are fighting to keep from having to go back there to face those charges.
All right. We're going to stay in Florida for the next leg of our run and the state is scheduled to carry out its nation leading 15th execution of the year that happens tonight. Daniel Conahan Jr. will die by lethal injection for a 1996 kidnapping and murder. And police say he lured his victim to the woods by promising to pay this man for posing for nude picks. Conahan though tied him to a tree raped, strangled and mutilated. This man now he is convicted here. Robe this is a huge story because yes, he is going to die for one murder he was convicted of. Robe they say it's possible. He's responsible for at least a dozen others. The hog trail killings is what they called them. There were other victims found near where this one victim was and they were never able to nail him for them with evidence. But they absolutely think he's responsible. And then you got the Fort Myers eight in around the same time eight men who were killed.
Robe some of them never identified but a lot of the circumstances were similar to this. They believe this guy is a serial killer. Oh yeah and if you look and we'll get into this in a later episode. But if you look at the details surrounding how he killed at least this one man, the other murders are eerily and scarily similar like mutilation of the genitals tied to a tree. I mean he had a hallmark. He had a sign off so to speak as you often see with serial killers. So yes he is believed to have a wake of destruction in his path. And yes he is set to die tonight. All right next up on the run a Pennsylvania mother is facing charges in the death of her five month old child. What is going on in this case? Police say mom was inebriated. She was drunk at the time of her child's death. Didn't you and I first saw headlines. I thought we were about to have another right situation. But this is not some psychosis type thing. They said this was neglect 25 year old Dionne Tay and Nicole Beckett charged with involuntary manslaughter
also with endangering the welfare of a child. They claim a prosecutor's claim that Beckett was drunk at a hotel when she put her daughter in a spa tub. I think this was supposed to be a hot tub that she was in. The child eventually drowned. She wasn't court yesterday. I think the incident was back in May, but she's just facing the charges now. She waived a preliminary hearing. She is out. But Bond was set available set at $100,000. Just awful awful awful awful. All right next up on the run Lindsey Clancy's attorney is fighting to keep the state from retrying her for the triple murder of her three children. A jury as you I'm sure are well aware was deadlocked after seven days of deliberation that forced the judge to declare a mistrial. Her attorney Kevin Reddington is now saying he will file a motion to prevent a mistrial based on double jeopardy grounds and based on reports from jurors that one holdout was not following the law. He basically wants her so she can walk free and she can stay in the mental hospital that she's in and that charges cannot be brought against her that she will not face another trial.
We'll see what happens, but a lot of eyes on this case. Robes you he said it's worth noting a plea deal is possible to make sense and maybe should have happened beforehand. He says he won't accept one that has her spending any time in jail. Yeah, not one day in jail. So there you go. He is already that his his red line and negotiations. All right. When we mentioned as well NFL season officially underway. Know you were excited about this last night robes. You were all hyped up football this finally back season kicked off with the Super Bowl remarage between the Seahawks and the New England Patriots and just like the Super Bowl. The Seahawks beat the Patriots 13 to 10. Another game is tonight. The Rams versus the 49ers in Australia. This is only enough. They don't usually start the season on a Wednesday. They they're funny. They don't start. It's obvious to everyone he was cheating because I we were watching. I think you fell asleep with an amazing movie. I remember I saw on another TV in another room. You had some football game on. But we were you mean the opener of the 2026 season.
We were watching the whisper man and whispering man. Well, it was it's so good. Robert De Niro. Robert De Niro Michelle Montahan Adam Scott. I mean, just incredible. Oh, and Michael Keaton. Oh, yes. A great cast. It was on awesome movie highly recommend football. Football is back. Folks, by the way, it's a very big deal. But I was going to say they had it on a Wednesday night because there's a game in Australia. The Thursday night game is in Australia tonight between the 49ers and the Rams. They've been doing this. They are growing the game internationally. So they keep having games and I will have a couple in different places. And it's been expanding. Okay. All right. That's exciting. I think I mean, I'm more excited about college football. Are you excited about the new Apple folding? Yeah, stay with those folks. They just unveiled their first ever folding phone and it's the most expensive phone ever. Also, it was the hottest summer ever. And night one of Saturday night lives new season is going to be maybe must see television.
There. Hey, everyone. It's the Jonas Brothers with the Hey Jonas podcast. We've been catching up with some great friends. Paul Rodd, Michael Wubley, Seth Meyers, Nile Horan, Jake Shane. And making some new friends while getting into what's really like to have sisters, like Alex National. She likes to control everyone and tell everyone to go. Okay, well control is a harsh word. I would say that's a harsh word. I am more outspoken. Growing up a lot of the times because she was so quiet, I would speak for like the both of us. Now I'm working on like thinking of mom and really not thinking before I speak. And Joey King. You know if your like mom is yelling at your sibling and even if you're annoyed with your sibling, you just like won't let that slide. It's like you only can yell at your sibling. I'm like, you can't do that here. That is not what I want talk about her like that. I just want to talk about her. Plus we've been taking your calls, listening to your voice mails and giving advice or at least trying to. So if you've got catching up to do now is the perfect time. Listen to Hey Jonas on the I Heart Radio app Apple podcast or wherever you get your podcasts.
When I was 14 years old, I was kidnapped and health captive for nine months. I survived and I've spent my life exploring how other people survive what should have destroyed them. I'm Elizabeth Smart and these are the survivor files. You just remember this low taunting voice next to my ear saying shut up, don't say anything. Every week I'm with survivors who live through the unthinkable. I knew if he woke up without a doubt he was going to hurt me. I started feeling that there was someone at the end of my bed and I just started screaming. They are abducted, stalked, controlled and nearly silenced. But these aren't stories about what's taken from them. Their stories about what it takes to make it out alive. Listen to the survivor files with Elizabeth Smart on the I Heart Radio app Apple Podcast or wherever you get your podcasts. The improvised character comedy podcast were each week a new panel of artists discuss their craft. Join us for a panel of wellness influencers. What I try to do is faux journal. I don't know if you guys are to faux journaling. Yeah, it's reading. It's called reading. So you're so we don't like to use that word anymore. Okay. A panel of New Yorker cartoonists. Have you guys done Terry Gross's Peloton class? No. I've been dying too. I'm so sorry. I'm seeing a reading of Sudako in the thousand paper cranes by Audrement Donald at the Wonderland bookstore. That's crazy. I went to the Wonderland bookstore yesterday and I heard Nora Jones do a reading of zero, Dr. 30. No way. You have to come to the last bookstore though. Kim Kattroll is reading the guitar tabs of yesterday. A panel of Eurovision participants. And we do a little Halloween sometimes. Does the Pope dress up? He winks on Halloween. Middle school is a different world than the one we grew up in. I'm Dr. Joy and this is therapy for black girls. We spent real time on it in our surviving middle school run, bringing in a child psychologist and a psychiatrist who's raising two black girls of his own to talk about what's really going on with our kids right now. So it's literally physiological and neurological and psychological chaos happening all the same job. We got into group chats and gaming, friendships and bullying and how to tell the difference between healthy monitoring and the kind of surveillance that a road's trust. You're belonging. You could think of belonging as I can be myself and I can still be accepted. And then they're fitting in. fitting in says I have to change who I am in order to avoid rejection. Then we turn the conversation toward the fathers, sitting down with therapists, care gains on black fatherhood and what it means to raise a daughter through this stage.
You don't have more shorts so you can't do flips. You have on the dress you have across your legs. That's the range of this run from screen time to identity to the fathers doing the work at home. How to get off our device. But the reality is there's a lot of life out there that we don't want you as your adults in the life to miss out on. This has been our surviving middle school run brought to you by the people who spend their careers thinking about exactly this. I'm Dr. Joy. Listen to therapy for black girls on the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your pie. Can. All right folks, we continue here on this Friday Eve run. Everybody's pretty excited yesterday. Rogues about another Apple event is the first time the new CEO is doing this first one. But everybody was anticipating the folding phone. The first ever foldable iPhone and yes, they did unveil it. Duo. How you like the name? The Apple Duo? I mean, that's fine. I don't care about the name. I do think the idea of a foldable phone is pretty cool.
For those of us who had the flip phones, there was something fun about when you're upset, like, just closing it, like, aggressively. You will not do that when you hear the price of this phone. You will have the list of the glass shatters gently. That's true. The company showed off the new phone at a big event in which they also showcased the new phone 18 iPhone. iPhone. That's a high. Wow, I have my eyes are not working. The new iPhone 18, the new AirPods, the new Apple Watch, all the new products. That's always exciting. We were just waiting for the. Yeah, nobody cares. Get to the good stuff. They just wanted the iPhone. The star of the show, of course, was the new Duo, which the company says has the largest iPhone screen ever, 7.6 inches. Yes. So, I guess let's get to the point. How much is this thing? Cheapest model is $2,000. The cheapest. It goes up to $3,200 for the most expensive. Oh, my gosh. It's your pre-order start, October 16th. I think they say they're going to be delivered by October 23rd.
But, Ro, it's cool. It's new and a lot of people are going to run out and get it. It's weirdly shaped to use the phone. It's shaped like a passport, almost. That's how even they described it. A passport. So, it's a thick item, the size of a passport. That's how you would talk on the phone. And you unfold it and you almost have a, I guess, a mini, mini iPad looking thing when you unfold it. But you've got to carry around with you. Yeah, they say, if it's in your pocket, no problem, like a passport. It's just an oddly shaped thing and I wonder how that's going to go with math. Three grand for a phone. You know what, I'm thinking, A, obviously, no way shape or form will my children have that because, yes, with the way they deal with their iPhones. But I just think about how this is now going to be something that folks will try to steal even more. Like, we just with that type of price tag attached to it, that just makes me nervous. Like hold your phone close because that is, think about that walking around with a $3,000 anything you are going to be a target for thieves.
That's all I could think about. Like that's scary. That is a, you make a good point. Like if you were to $3,000 per, to $3,000, like that's something that people would look to steal. Wow. I think about that. Yeah. You're raining on the apple. Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry. All right, let's move on to better news. I don't know if this is better news. Did it seem like a hot summer? We're in the, in the Northeast, so maybe not so much, but apparently we complained a lot about how I was in. We did, I guess. It's so humid. It's so humid. And guess what? You weren't wrong if you thought this was the hottest summer in a while because it turned out. It was the hottest summer on record ever here in the United States. That's remarkable. 74.4 degrees. It was the average temperature. Now, the previous record was 74 degrees. Robes, that's kind of blowing through the record. Yeah, that's a huge jump, almost a half a degree. And the only hotter summers, the famous summer of 1936. And then 2021, I didn't realize we had matched. But I guess we didn't hotter, Robes, but they are paying attention to this.
We just blew through the previous record. I mean, look what happened in Nepal with melting glacier. I mean, this is scary stuff. All right, for the final leg of our run at Saturday Night Live, just announced who will be hosting their season 52 premiere. And it's kind of awesome. This is awesome. It feels very, maybe to us, it feels very local. We, I know people watch Saturday Night Live all over. It feels like hours here in New York for some reason. It feels like a very New York thing. It is a very New York thing. And look, I think you and I have both had, and this is years and years and years ago. But when you get to go into studio eight age and we only get to see the rehearsal. But it's so fun. And wildly unimpressive. How small at studio, when you see it on TV and then you see it. When we, when I worked at the today show every now and then we would go into studio eight age to have like company wide meetings. And that was like the coolest thing ever. So the coolest thing ever now, they just announced their lineup for their guest host, their celebrity hosts. This is always a big deal.
Night one is all about New York. Jalen Fricken Brunson. That's awesome. That is awesome. I love that they, I love that they picked him for this. This is awesome. He's not an actor. He's right. But he has a personality. He's ever been around. But on the court, he seems like he doesn't have a personality. He's focused. Yes, he just stone faced the whole time. This is great. It's great for the city. It's great for the mix. And it's, I don't know. This feels like a, I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. These are come on the public room. The public room just feels like a local thing. Oh. I can't wait. Well, I actually don't know his personality. I feel like I've only seen him play. So that'll be very fund, to see his personality and just see him have some fun on the stage, well earned, well deserved I think it's just an awesome choice. Do we want to place the Waiter now. Whether or not they do a skit on Donald Trump being in the game. I mean, yes, let's go ahead.
That's probably a done deal already. Also hosting Dakota Johnson. After that, yeah. Shane Gillis. And I don't know how to say her name, but the actress from Obsession. Andy Navarrette, I believe it's her name. Andy Navarrette. She is about to go gangbusters. That's so exciting. This young lady is about to go ever. She just got a part in what the X-Men movie I think. She is just going to do gangbusters. It's amazing. I love that they're paying homage to New York, Jaylen Brunson, and then horror movie. Our two favorite things right there. So very, very cool. We will be watching. But for your quote of the day on this Thursday, don't let temporary people do permanent damage. Oh, yeah. I thought about that in so many ways. That just jumped out to me. We give away our power all the time to people who we don't even have in our lives. If it's the guy who pulled out in front of you, and you let it actually affect your day, your life,
it starts building up all sorts of negative energy. Don't let temporary people do permanent damage. Love it. I love it. Don't even let temporary people do temporary damage. As soon as that experience is over, it's over. It's over. Oh, my goodness. That's a good one. I do appreciate it. Right. And with that, everyone, we always appreciate you running with us. I made me robot. And I'm DJ Holmes, run soon. I survived nine months in captivity. And I've spent my life exploring how other people survive what should have destroyed them.
