2:08with Hector Bellarine. Welcome to your World Service promo. Yep, droid-barrett is over there in a new land. He doesn't have the language just yet. He needs a guide, a sensei, and he's got a pretty good one in Hector. Not many people speak English in the squad, so I'm basically his translator at the moment. I've told him I'm charging in 50 euros per day, but the count goes to zero every time he's cause a goal. So that's our plan at the moment. I'm trying to help him as much as I can with everything, even though we both play for different teams in North London, we lived in very close to each other during times in London. We've tried a lot about that. And just trying to really help him. I think he said I didn't really well with the teams, with the squad. I feel like he's enjoying training. As I said, the game I know we can was a bit difficult to enjoy, but I think he's he feels comfortable. He likes the city. Everyone is taking care of him. Starting a life in a city where the average temperature is like 25 degrees, the food's nice, the club take care of you.

3:11Playing the Champions League is not a bad job offer. Yeah, it's amazing. I mean, and you know, everyone here, I mean, literally everyone in this country was so happy that he joined Betis instead of West Ham because it just seemed like yeah, this is a good clip to go. But if you were to take him or in fact, I think there's going to be quite a lot of people going over the watch Betis games this season from from Arles of Sevilla. So if you were to take him out around Seville for a day, where do you bring him? Where should people go? Wow, that's that's a great question. Look, Seville has one of the biggest and oldest all towns in Europe, almost all tourism and almost everything that you can do in the city is concentrated in the in the old town. Seville is a city to be walked, very tight streets, beautiful architecture. Almost everywhere you stop to have some tapas, you'll most possibly enjoy the food. I will always recommend not to go into

4:12the very touristy areas because it's become a little bit what happens in every big city, you know, there's areas that are almost like the signate to just like for tourists and like things are more expensive and even though then they're trying to sell you like a very local product that really isn't. But if you just try to walk around the north of Seville, for example, north of the old town, which you have a place called La La Meda, the El Coulette, that is a big square where you have loads of bars and good food spots. There's lots of churches, loads of like very cool. I'm not going to lie here when badas were beaten five, two at the weekend by Levante. We feared this interview might be in jeopardy particularly with Hector being a fault for one of the goals. But this is Hector Paturine we're talking about. There's more to life than what goes on in the football pitch. This guy has layers. He talked to us about everything from the books of Stefan Zheig to his fashion line to the man management techniques of Mickler Teta. It was extraordinary so if it's up there, I'm going to say he's among the most popular guests we've ever had in the podcast. Definitely top 10,

It's going to be very, very special and like I said, I just have to step in and try and control my emotions and put on a performance war. That was an interview put up by Matrum during the week. It's been a really interesting build-up Katie giving a lot of herself. More so than usual, the normative of the occasion is clear I think

6:17and has been over the last few days. But she will be able to park all that when it comes time to get the job done on Saturday night. That's certainly the opinion of Tomas Rowan. A key part of Katie's inner circle. We sat chat to Tomas years ago in the radio when he was one of the most knowledgeable Irish boxing journalists in the business. Now he's part of Katie's team. He's been there since the beginning of her professional career. One of his roles, one of his money roles, is matchmaking, picking opponents, plotting away through the professional game. That sort of stuff. A role which sometimes puts him at loggerheads with Katie yourself. Ultimately you'll be driven by Katie yourself. A good example of that is that first fight I spoke about when she was fighting in Ireland for the first time. If you remember the original tension, we've actually first fight Amanda Serrano in Dublin and that first fight that fight actually got announced in the ring. I don't want to have Amanda Serrano fights and Amanda pulled out a bit a month later which left it looking for an opponent. It was Katie's first fight back in Ireland. I think the term we probably would have used to at the time is Katie could sell, you can sell out the tree arena fight in many mess. The opponent doesn't really a factor

7:23when you fight in Ireland for the first time because it's such a hunger to the fact that this isn't even happening. But Katie, I want a real fight. I want a real challenge. We certainly got that from Shantel Cameron. I took a few months to write the wrong and the first fight which Katie did. I think it's probably won the more underrated wins in her career now that it's kind of forgotten. No, they're not forgotten. But when she did win, but I mean gone into that ring, that's very few people get her any chance. I'm correct in that reveal. That was a fantastic win. But and then, similarly for this one, for example, with Flora Pili, she was mandated by the WBC because when Katie, they made the belt vacant last year after this round of fights. So the WC mandated Pili, she's also the IBO chap. So we wanted someone that is bringing sometimes to the table and this allows Katie to win and on the spirit for the third time. But again, she's, there's no exact science in bots and matchmaking. That's a famous example of that

8:29over the year. Then with Flora Pili, we're fighting someone who's 12-year younger than us on beaten and 12 fights. Katie now hasn't fought since July last year. So there's all those kinds of intangibles and I guess we'll find Alan Satter. Has it ever gone the other way with Katie? Have you ever come to her with a fighter and she's gone, nah, I don't fancy that. No, absolutely. It's normally Katie coming to us with fighters and gone, I don't fancy that. I think I think one of the great examples maybe is, or don't seem pursuing another great rival of Katie's who she had two ding-dongs with. Katie was very early in her pro career. I think for Flora Pili, and she asked for that fight. She said, I want, you know, I feel I'm ready for that fight. I want that fight now. You know, maybe we weren't quite so sure. And then there's, you know, there's a little factor in terms of, you know, we were trying to build with alongside Eddie. We were trying to build Katie's profile. That means that the, you know, the reward, the

9:32person she's getting for those fights, you want to try and get those up to the level you feel she's worthy of for to fight someone like a doubtful person. Who we knew always knew was going to be a tough fight. So rather than fighting early on in her career, down some undercarriage, where, you know, it didn't really make a lot of sense. You know, Brian had said to her, look, let's, let's wait, let's get this fight in MSG. He wasn't really sure if he could, could get her an MSG, as it happened it did. It happened in MSG in the Chief Support too. When I was in New Joshua, got, um, at his first defeat to Andy Ruiz. So it did all work out. Obviously very tough fight. Again, then, you know, Katie put a bit more distance on her in the rematch. But yeah, that's an example for, you know, it's never happened the other way around, but it's constantly up more. Katie said, I want this fight next. And to be honest, no more than Krope Park, she normally, she normally does get her way because she just has that quite will where she just keeps chipping away in the background. You know, there's no, there's no tension. There's no, you know, never any, but I mean, she just, she, she always, she has this, this way of just getting, getting to the destination.

10:36She wants to really interesting tomorrow, isn't it? Because like we all see her from the outside as being this lovely, mild, mannered person, but this, this something there, you have to have some steediness about you to be able to do what she's doing. And as you say, get her way. Yeah, I mean, I think probably the only insight maybe, you would get to that is, I think, and if, if Markter's produced a pretty solid audio bit off the back of it, it's those moments immediately after, you know, when she's had a huge win, and you can almost see that, you can, I suppose, almost see maybe the, you know, monologue and come out for a few minutes or, you know, that that open emotion and I think you're able to see that right back to, you know, London 2012, I think when she celebrated, celebrated that win, the gold medal, to like the Cameron fights, the Serrano fights where there's just a couple of minutes afterwards in the ring where you can really see her, that competitive nature and how much it means to her, what to be honest, by the time you get back to, you know, Minister, you're back in the changing room, and she's already, you know, the

11:40heart rate is back to what it normally is, she's already the very same Katie Taylor, you see every other day of the year, and she's been super self-critical in terms of, yeah, that was, you know, I was, you know, analyzing her performance, so, yeah, I think that's what would like you say, like even with Crow Park, she just, you know, we all would have, I think we all felt in Katie to tell us, she said it herself after, you know, we went back after the Serrano fights, I think that's probably it, guys, you know, but the, the, the, the, the itch that we always wanted to scratch was Crow Park, and it didn't look for a long time like it was ever going to happen, but Katie just in the background just kept, you know, just kept kind of dangling that over a bit to say, you know, any chance of doing it, and you, you know, you just wanted to make sure that we left absolutely no stone on turn, and eventually, you know, it took four years, but eventually we did get it over the line. That point you made about the immediate aftermath of the fight, I think that the Don't Never Doubt Me won, I think came from after the Chantelle Cameron rematch, she said,

12:40I was almost offended being the underdog coming into this fight, Don't Ever Doubt Me, which, again, it's just one of those things where if I'm sitting down with Katie now, she's not going to probably speak in that way, but did you think that revealed how a little bit of a, don't know if Ego's the right word, but it's just the idea that she felt that maybe hang on a second, for everything I've done here, I've lost one professional fight and suddenly people are saying, I'm gone and passed it, I'm over the hill, that obviously pissed her off a bit. Yeah, look, I think there's no doubt she will never verbalize it, but, you know, in Katie's mind, there's absolutely no one in this planetly computer, you know, and she has no doubts about that. I'd say a good example, I remember one day we were around the time, the first Serano fight had been announced, the fight itself was still months off, and I think it was at another fight with Katie, where she would do it, around the media interviews, and everybody was asking her, obviously, about the Serano fight coming up, and she just said to me, you mentioned the word Ego, she said, you know, people say I don't have an Ego, she said, she just said to me privately, which I must have won because I cannot believe that anyone thinks I'm on this wrath,

13:45will compete me, you know, so, you know, and she did a little bit of a smile in the laugh, but, again, it is an insight, I think, into the stuff that normally she will never verbalize it, you'll never hear from her, but I think, you know, no more than any other athletes like that, maybe the inner and outlook is, does make an appearance the outside. Chelsea had gallantly agreed to allow Enzo Fernandez to follow his heart to Manchester City. They said, we love you like a son Enzo, and given that this is your dream, we can't stand in your way. And Enzo put out this sappy statement. Let me read this. This is like, I mean, this is Enzo Fernandez, right? We're talking about here. You know, he's a, he's not, he doesn't strike me as like the most sensitive guy. You know, he's just, I'd be like, yeah, you know, is he really, is he that sensitive of a figure? I'm not sure. Certainly not in the aftermath of Argentina's victory over England. Or indeed, why did he get himself sent off in the final? Sensitivity is not necessarily

18:57first word that comes to mind. Yeah, yeah, he's hard-nosed professional. That's not even the right way to do. No. In a mode of emotional kind of guy. He plays, he plays on emotion. Yeah, he plays in emotion. That's it. But anyway, that he's written an emotional message to the Chelsea fans, which is dear Chelsea. So it's, it's, okay, I'm obviously immediately thinking of the player tribute, player's tribute. I want you to know that these have not been easy days for me. Writing this is not easy either. The truth is, I haven't been in a good place. Three years ago, Cobham and Stanford Bridge became home for me and my family. I grew attached to the people, the shirt and the badge of this incredible club is already, by the way, in a city video, thumping the, thumping the city badge. Believe me when I say that from the moment I arrived, I became obsessed with winning. And we're bringing this club every trophy that it's history deserves. We suffered, we cried. I got angry many times. But we also celebrated titles and unforgettable victories together through the good times on the difficult ones. I live football the same way I live

20:00my life with passion and with all my heart. That is why I want you to know that I understand you. I truly understand you. I understand you. I truly understand you from the bottom of my heart. But life is about making decisions. And right now, I find myself having to make one of those difficult decisions. I've said it before, but I want to say it again. This is an easy for me. Anyway, I don't think that Chelsea fans would have actually been too bothered

22:06for Anso for Nandis to be leaving because he's been there for a long time. I mean, he's done some good things. He's a good player, but like this is a record, a record fee. It's actually profit on the fee they they pay from which at the time, you know, he came in and had a memory. I don't almost doubt they'll like run where like he couldn't win a game. You know, there was one of those types of situation. It's Archie Gray is having one of them at the moment. He's played like 30 games in one three or something. You know, he's actually there's a similar sort of sense. Count it all and Archie Gray. No, you can't. But with Archie Gray, it wasn't the club record and in fact, Premier League record signing, which Anso was when he arrived, I think, at least for a few minutes. It was the before they signed Kaisato as well, he broke the record. But I think that would have been like, yeah, you know, we'll be all right. And also what we're going to do is we'll get in, you know, obviously, your replacement. And sure enough, by evening, Chelsea seems to have tied up a deal for Lameen Camara, the highly rated midfielder of Financially Beliegered Monaco,

23:12right? They, you know, Monaco, I don't have to see votes. Wealth, tax evasion, I don't know that. So I say, it's a few daughters floating around Monaco, surety. Unfortunately, not that many of them in the bank account of Monaco football club. It appears at the moment. So Monaco, uh, suddenly find themselves on transfer deadline day. Apparently, they desperately need money. I'm not sure exactly why, but they desperately need money and they desperately need to offload one of a faller and Balagun or Lameen Camara. And it looks as though faller and Balagun is going to go to Everton. And so they're, uh, you know, and they're reluctant to sell Camara. But then faller and Balagun's medical at Everton shows up a problem and the deal is imperiled. Suddenly they are back on the phone to Chelsea saying, listen, actually, Camara, what do you think? Chelsea are like, absolutely brilliant, you know, place in the squad has in fact, just opened up. Uh, we will sign him, deal agreed. How it hands shaken well over the zero, remember, whatever.

24:15And deal, deal agreed. All, all, all done. Uh, this is our replacement has arrived. I need much less. I spend these 50, 55 million euros or something like this, much less than, and so, you know, not only are we quid's in and Chelsea are massively over the course of this transfer another that got the biggest net income of any, uh, Premier League club. Um, but we've, you know, we've, we've sort of plugged the gap on this guy's looks like he's going to be pretty good and we move on. Uh, what a great day for the club. Um, but then Everton are back on saying this and we need to renegotiate the terms of this faller and Balagun deal, which appears to be collapsing over the medical, you know, we're concerned at some of the issues, but maybe if we paid you a little bit less, then we wouldn't be as, you know, our concern, we could sort of set aside our concerns. Did Trump get involved in this one? This Balagun affair? No, no, no, no, no, balls as of yet. Now this is, but this is all Balagun actually. So, uh, so Monica are like, wait a second, so the Balagun thing is, is back on? Well, which of these guys would be rather loose? Balagun or camera and they decide Balagun for sure. Uh, let's sell him. And this is the

25:21point at which they got back on to Chelsea said, you know, that deal we grade? Well, we've, we've unaggrated that that has been that is no longer an agreed deal between us. He's not, we're not selling him to you. Chelsea are scandalized by this and actually, um, are, well, you can see the journalists are reporting, uh, Chelsea are shocked that Monica would break their word like this. Chelsea kept their word to Manchester City or to Enzo. They kept their word. They, they did the honorable thing, even though they knew they were, they were cutting off their own right arm. You know, and that's what, that's what, uh, that's because Chelsea's word is their bond. That's how much honesty means to this, to this club, to this great institution. Enzo describes it. Whereas these guys, Monica, have lied to us. They've let us up the garden path. They've done the double cross and they've left us up to create. How many, um, I heard a sad, yeah, yeah. This is what they've done. Um, in the shape, this is what, this is what, um, this is what Monica

26:23have done. So there's a lot of outrage at Chelsea. How could you have done this to us? And also looking at their own business going on, dear, how have we spent like two billion on players and end up with, you know, I mean, we've got Kaysaydo. We've got Reese James, got Lavia, Reese James and Lavia. You know, can you trust him to play that many games? They've got Jordan Henderson. He's not fit yet, but he might be playing more games. He may, he may have a bigger role. He may be looking forward to a bigger role than, uh, than anyone that, how to anticipate it. Um, anyway, uh, Falr and Balcon, at least he's going to join Everton. Actually, he's at Finch Farm, Everton's training band and he's, haven't he's thinking, you know, this has been a really weird day. You know, they're quiddling over my medical. They're saying, I've got a problem. They're renegotiating the transfer fee. I've been here all day waiting for this to happen. And you know what? I'm pissed off and you know what? Fuck this. I'm not joining this club. Oh, no. And he's, and he pulls, he pulls the plug on the deal. So you've got Monica. I don't know

27:26what Monica are going to do now. Apparently, they're still desperately in need of cash. They didn't much sell either of the players. They were desperate to sell one off. Um, they just, they told the warning couldn't go. His agent is ranting, raving about how, um, his client is being treated like a piece of meat with, with some justification, I think. Um, the same agent of his Mila Sarr who has been hoping that he would join Liverpool as not materialized. Uh, and he also was extremely annoyed. All right.
