2:05So here we are and it's it's fine tuning season, which we didn't get last year, Jim. We did not get that last year. Calypso feeding Otis, Otis is the Lotus, the Lotus flower, the Lotus flower. Yes. Yeah, we asked Boone about what does he do now that he has five games to prepare? Are they going to try other people at third base? Are they going to try the, you know, was warned going to be in the bullpen? What relievers are going to get action? Are the starters going to pitch in games just to get, you know, healthy. What does he have locked up in his brain or how many questions are open? And that's, that's the conversation. I also asked about the Bunt defense. So you'll see you will see. You'll see is more aggressive. You'll see. Yeah. You'll see is aggressive. It's also a little more confident. You'll see it's a little more like I have a plan. Well, that's because I know that's I know I don't. Yeah, but he should mix that in every now and then. Like, you know, will this happen? You'll say because at least I at least feel like, oh, he knows we's we're in it together.

4:13Aaron, how are you? I'm alright. How are you? Good, man. Yeah, we're doing good. Weather's changed to fall last night. Fried had the mock neck on. It felt it was fun to look at for the first half of the game. And then I was like, yeah, that was out of it. How about you, boon? Obviously things are somewhat wrapped up playoff wise for the Yankees. You're going to be the top wild card team. You're going to be hosting a team odds are, it's the Red Sox, but that's not official yet. Obviously you want to win the division, pushing that disappointment aside. Is there any kind of relief or excitement that you have these next five games free where you're not chasing something and you can set yourselves up. However you want. Yeah, I mean, yeah, I mean, obviously you want to win the division and get that by. I mean, but now that that's gone, like at least being able to, you know, use the

5:14next five days, you know, because there's some guys that can use a blow and get off their feet a couple of days, you know, obviously bullpen guys. We can use them to get ready now for next week, as opposed to you know, pushing them in some areas. So, you know, I think those parts are okay and, you know, good about the next five days, but, you know, we also want to go play well. And, you know, hopefully we can do that and, you know, maybe get some guys in different positions and things like that. Yeah. Last year it came down to like the final game. I used to do out of chance to win it. Final game. So you didn't have this little window of preparation, I guess. And you mentioned guys playing in different positions. You had been asked and somewhat talked about third base a little bit. Will we see Volpe get some reps at third or jazz or anyone new? Yeah. Yeah. I'll probably put Volpe over there here at some point.

6:14He's going to probably do his work there, you know, a little bit this week and hopefully get him in a game there and see what that looks like. You just been talking to him. He felt comfortable with it down there. So he has something I'll probably look at. What about it? Lombard, we heard he looked great at third and triple A. He's obviously ups and downs at shortstop. He's been on a nice stretch recently. Is there, do you want to see him anywhere else? No, I'll keep him at short. OK. Who's the other like rice? We would try to get him some reps at first base. Yeah, I'll probably get Benny in the first couple of times. You know, I got Kabir on the outfield. He just because he hasn't played a lot of outfield and he's he is good at it out there. But you know, with just depending on how our final roster is going in the post season, having that position flexibility because you might find yourself wearing the fit then he's exiting boom. You know, he's out there. So, you know, just want to be mindful of that kind of stuff here or these final days.

7:15Now you had said Rodan wasn't going to start again in the regular season after his outing yesterday. Will we see some of the starters have throw days, you know, freed, or freed pitches today and whoever is going to get game two, it kind of matched up to that. We might they might have a throw day in the middle. Like, will we see any of these starters just get some innings against Baltimore? I doubt it. I haven't gone through that part with the pitching group yet of how they want to handle. You know, they're in between their next start. So I'm not sure about you. And what about Warren? Cause I wore in it's been projected. He'd end up in a bullpen roll. He's supposedly as one. He'd be lined up for Friday. Is it worth having him come out as like a bolt guy opener type? Yeah. I mean, we'll talk about it, but he scheduled to start Friday and that's kind of how I'm looking at it. Okay. You get a lot of guys racing to get healthy. And obviously you love to see that with Trent with Stanton with judge still vying to get

8:18in. If you guys get deeper into the playoffs and he can is there part of you? That's like, guys, you're going to make my job really hard. If you're all healthy, we don't have the spots. So I mean, that sure, that's possible. We'll take that though. Yeah, Grish and Grish and John Carler are going over summer set today to get live at bats with the stay ready group. You know, back in band Aaron Boone and the stay ready group. Huh. So it's a good backing band name. Yeah. You know, judges going to work to, you know, really I've ruled out with him is the, is the regular season. So, you know, we'll just, you know, see how he, how he heals and where we're at. As hopefully we, we go into each round. You didn't rule. I thought there was a quote yesterday about the wild card getting ruled out for judge. Or maybe it was just we have to prepare as if he's not. Yeah. It was a sentiment that I think we're preparing is not, but I'm not rolling anything.

9:20Who, who gets the final vote? Is it the medical staff? Is it judges? Is it you? Is it, I think the medical staff and, and we'll see where he is as we hopefully, you know, go into several different rounds. And Clark, Clark came out of the game. He felt sore. Didn't go for imaging is what the last update I remember is he fine? Will we see him getting some reps? So he's going to, he's going to throw again today early and we'll get an idea. Like if he's not already, if he's not available, probably today, then we got to do something. Okay. And the other guys, whether he's not going to make it back for the regular season, but he's still getting ready and preparing and he's not ruled out for the wild card roster. Last I heard. Yeah, I haven't ruled anything out there, but, you know, he threw another side yesterday, you know, he's up against the clock a little bit. So we'll see. And did Cruz throw it all? We heard he was clear. We did.

10:21Okay. Yeah. And he's doing well. So he's had a touching feel on the mound. His first bullpen. So he seems to respond pretty well, but I don't have any time line on him either. And just for my heart. And this is a heart versus brain battle for me. Hmm. La Geranhe came back from injury. His first outing, he was averaged 100 on the fastball. My brain says he's still recovering from injury. It would be ridiculous to rush him into a debut and then postseason adrenaline. But my heart says I want, I want to see him throw a hundred. Is there any? Never know. Okay. So that's not that could be something. Never know. You never know. That's a big will see. Popular popular line recently. What about I feel like around the league and like the Brewers clinched? I know Mizorowski.

11:21Well, it's a different, same, same, but different. But he threw like three innings the other day with with Cole Schlittler, a couple of these guys. What do you have a pitch number in mind or what, what will that look like? Yeah. I'll lean on the pitching group with for that. Like what we want to do, you know, in these starts, what is our number, ideally, to try and just set them up for success in their next one. So I don't know what that is yet. I will kind of obviously, Garrett goes tonight. So, you know, that'll be something that Maddie and Desi and Preston and I kind of, obviously finalized before we go in tonight. With, um, but I'll lean on the pitching guys for that. Like, that's right. And, and what's our number tonight? And I'll be pretty strict with that. With such a platoon heavy roster and so many options, they were talking about this on the broadcast like on one side, it's great. On the other side, it leads to a lot of second guessing from people you care, don't

12:25care about if they second guess, but it just leads to it because there's every night you have options has this, you know, as we go, we're five games away from the post season and I feel like fans think there's so much up in the air. Do you feel like there's a lot up in the air of who's going to be in there for you in this wild card series? Or do you feel like, you know, on your end, you're like, no, I know, you know, my options. No, no, I think it's fair. I think it's, it's a little day to day to me. And again, it doesn't always come down to left right. Like, yes, that is the guy thing, but again, every lefty is different, every righty is different. So it'll be game to game. You know, there'll be some guys probably in there on, in left on left situations, but there'll be some guys that fall into platoon because we have obviously those capable people, you know, ready. And with Schumann going down for jazz, is he able to, is there a timeline on him coming

13:26back up if you wanted him to be part of the wild card roster? No, he always have an injury. Okay. Yeah. Makes sense. Yeah. I guess I'm jumping back positionally. Like, is there anything else? I know, you know, I know Ramos had some run in left field and Jones can move around. Like, is, are, are those guys going to be in the mix to see just different positions? Cause you, you don't really know what a playoff series could throw at you? Um, yeah, but I feel like they've done that though. You know, Spencer, since he's come off other than obviously the last, you know, we two weeks, you know, has played a ton of left, played a ton of right and kind of bounced around each and every day and did a really good job with that. Um, the same with Ramos. And I think Ramos has done a good job in the quarters. You know, he's. And, and I'm comfortable like if he's in laughter, if he's in right. Um, now obviously with belly, I like having them in left.

14:27You know, so there's going to be that scenario. I'm sure the presents itself at some point in this postseason where he could find himself in center on a given day or some given innings. But generally speaking, I think with, you know, with Spencer, you know, if somehow Kabero ended out there in a game or, or Grish comes back into the fold, I got a fun one. Let's garcia. It's second. Get that Yankees fan fiction going. We'll see. Okay. I saw some fan fiction that was, it was like judge D H rice first base, garcia second base, Lombard short jazz third. Now you didn't say jazz was going to slide around. Jazz is staying that second this year. Yeah, we'll see. Yeah, that's kind of my plan. But okay, we'll see. Okay. Put your hat back on Meredith. Oh, well, the reason I say we'll see a lot, I guess, is because you know, you get ass speculative questions. And if you give, give them a little bit, which you do, then it's like, who said this? And it's like, well, but there is a, we'll see component to this. I got it. Yeah, you get it. You want to talk? We defended a judge the other day because he was, they asked him Schlittler MVP. And he says it's essentially a throw away line for him. He's like, well, the pictures, you know, they have their award. 17:29Obviously the race or you're in the middle of a series right now, Bunt more than any other day. We have more Bunt hits and sack Bunt's than any other team. They have 49 on the year. Milwaukee is second with 32. Yeah. On that on that play is that genuinely, is that a, whatever is that a misread is jazz supposed to be coming first? Yeah, we got to be covered covered first. Okay. Yes. And it's that's the play we work on because of the race all the time. Yeah. Like we do our Bunt coverages. We're prepared for safety squeezed and last night. Like we feel like that's 100% tailored walls in that situation. It's going to bump down. So our biggest thing is if we can defend it tremendously and the Bunt's not perfect, you might have a chance at the plate. But the biggest thing is let's, let's get it out. Cause if they execute that, especially with speed on third, it's tough play to defend. But we need to get it out. So where's the breakdown? There's it just, you know, communication within the infield before that.

18:33No, it's not before. It's just I think jazz reddit is right back to the pitcher and thought Garcia would slam on the brakes. But we're playing that, we're playing that aggressively because know it's common where Garcia is, you know, on the dead run, it's hard for him to slam on the brakes and get back. So we got to, we got to cover that up with the second base. And in Arizona, obviously, Cam, Cam, uh, bobbled the Bunt back to him, but errors happened. There's that's not anything fun. Yeah, cams cam does a pretty good job. Um, handle in this position. Um, you know, he's not max, um, or, but, you know, he does, he does a good job. There and the, yeah, yeah, it's a ball. The other one in Arizona was a two strike bump that kind of went behind the man, which obviously a two strike points a little more difficult because, no, that, that was the one that mapped in, get a good handle on it. If you, if you watch how it happened, that was perdomo,

19:36kind of hit it high and on the turf, it kind of hit and spun and checked. So it was hard for him to get, so we got his glove and then just couldn't get it out. So, you know, that's a two strike one that, you know, he wasn't bunting on the prior two strike one. So he had a couple two strike situations. So that's just a kind of a good execution. Tough play that we didn't get a handle on. But yeah, and you're not going to sell out for a bunch of defense on two strikes. I mean, there's certain situations, certain guys that you don't still like do it. So we're going to honor it. There's, uh, there's only been three successful this year. Yeah, sack or hit, bounce on two strikes. I did have a former manager tell me that versus a, uh, Hall of Fame Yankee, he would switch to two strike, he would, he would switch to button defense on two strikes because he felt like he got all of his hits just tapping breaking balls down the line. And I was, yeah, that's fun. Yes, I would say, you know, one of the challenges with that nowadays is just because

20:42the stuff is generally speaking, you know, so good that it's a little harder to, you know, when I was playing most of the guys, I, you know, it wasn't carry wood with two strikes. It was, oh no, he was saying not that the batter would bunt. He was like, his hits are tapers because he's just two strike protecting. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yes. Um, with McMahon last year, he comes over. You said it was like slipping into a, a warm bath at third base. We've seen him make good plays, but we've seen a fair share of mishandles. Do you think, you know, and I know it's tough to speak on this because he's in the club. I, but is it, do you, do you find it's tethered to the offense or is there anything to look at because it has not been the same level as last year? I think that's fair to say. Yeah, but I think overall it's been good. And I think I'm guessing the numbers would back that up. Um, but there's been a couple misplaced. No question. I don't think it's tethered to the offense, um, because I feel like he's a very confident

21:46defender, um, but I would acknowledge a couple misplaced of late, um, that, that are placed. He normally nails down for you and your brain. He's still your best third baseman end of a game. Your best third baseman with freed on the mound who induces grounders to third. Oh, yeah, but I have a, like I think copy arrows really good over there, too. So he made a couple of nice plays in game one yesterday. Yeah, a count of arrows really good at third. Um, so, but you know, as his Mac and, and I feel like, I feel like Rose, he's played a good third his last, this last month, the, the, you know, four or five times he's probably been over there in the last month. You know, I, I feel like it's been solid, which has been good to see because I feel like he went through a little stretch where, you know, he struggled a little bit, but I, I've been encouraged with his end, you know, his bringing stuff has been really good too. His, um, tough stretch at third, a lot of the balls were double play opportunities that it felt like he got ahead of the first play.

22:47Uh, you know, there was a, I remember doing a video. Yeah, he gets going fast out there sometimes. Yeah. Um, but he's got arm strength. He's got athleticism. Um, and I feel like if you watch him over the last, again, try four or five starts, feel like he's done a nice job. It talked about the double play on the broadcast yesterday. And I've been talking about it a lot all year because the first part of the year was lots of double plays happening. And I think it was on Neil talked about how well with Lombards range and his arm strength, he's playing deeper and him and jazz now have the ability to just turn so many double plays like the double play has been a big part of the Yankees game this last two weeks or so. Obviously, we'll warn you's to bond Max Fried, even Rodon got a couple. Is it feel, you know, it's almost feels like a, uh, a party trick like, you know, get a runner on first. I almost get excited of like we're going to, we're going to turn two on your ass instead of being worried about it.

23:48I feel we're very capable. Yes. We've got to play at that level though, you know, all the time. So we have guys that are capable of turning really good ones and, and the routine, but we got to, we got to handle the routine. There's, there is one picture as, as we were trying to do the dance with you on the way through that, you know, arguably had one of the best pitching, if not the pitching performance of the year yesterday. I mean, Carlos Rodon drops it on the table. My goodness. What, um, I'm trying to find the right way to phrase this without Ganna will see. Um, I, for the playoffs, we obviously have a lot of starting pictures is, like, well, Rodon, be looking to come out of the bullpen and in a wildcard round. I don't know. We will say, yeah, I bet. Definitely. That's fair. I bet again, we can ask it again, Boone. And, um, some ways, you know, obviously last night kind of ended the chase a

24:49little bit. And now it's about getting lined up and doing what we think's best. So the good thing is like, man, I feel like Carlos is in a good place. And man, he threw the heck out of the ball yesterday. Um, you know, so got a ton of confidence with where he's at. And, you know, I knew, I knew this last time coming back. Obviously we had to still build them up when he got to us. Um, but I knew physically he was probably in the best place. He'd been all year even going back to spring training. You know, that's what the pitching guys were telling me. They really liked where he's at. And that's played out like he looks, looks good. And the strike throwing over the last couple has gotten really good where that's been the one little bit of bug a boot form this year because the results have been excellent. You know, he's had that sub three most of the year. I feel like, you know, but he has had some deeper counts and walks that have kept him from, you know, getting deeper in the games. And then yesterday, the strike throwing was great.

25:50The stuff was great. Uh, you know, the profile and the heater all day was really good. He was kind of sitting in that 94 range, but then had 97, 98 in the tank too. When he needed it, the change up in the slider has been good. So low stress throwing ball. Well, man, it's good to see. If you're up for it, what we can do is start like a whisper campaign. And I'll ask you, who do you think starting the wild card and you just give the wrong answer and then we'll post that clip and, and geolocate it just to the greater Boston area and they'll prepare for the wrong pictures. Nah. Well, all right. If you think about it, just we can always, you know, fire the cameras up. Yeah. You know, that's like the Patriot way. You see them with their fire. He is right now. Okay. We'll put it there too. Yeah. You know, we can do that. Yeah. Chicago, just in case. I don't know. What else you got, Jimbo? I feel like we did a lot of like news.

26:53You know, it's an interesting area of the season. Prepare. I don't know. What do you got? Boom. What's what? What's one thing that is there like a checklist? How do you guys approach these five days? Is it like a great regrouping amongst the coaches? Like, okay. Now do you have a, does someone have a calendar ready? Like now it's the reset calendar or, you know, is it an understanding? A little bit like like our pitching group will now start to really map some things out. So I'll lean on them even more heavily than I already do as far as, okay, who do we want to prioritize today? Like in the bullpen, like, you know, are we staying away and probably being a little more disciplined on certain days to staying away. But I'm sure they're going to want these guys throwing somewhat regularly, but really more controlled than obviously not pushing guys too much. So trying to keep that sharpness and obviously it's big league games.

27:53So there's the competitive edge that comes with coming in that wanting to perform and wanting to win the game. But, you know, our job in making sure that, you know, physically it's putting them in a good spot, hadn't ended next week. Okay. I asked you beforehand, you said you like Kermit the frog. What do you like about Kermit? Is it just his general presence? Is it the iconicness? He's got some sense of humor to him. I guess what attracted you to Kermit? Well, I guess iconic. Okay. Well, sense of humor. Garrett Cole voice. When when Cole's riled up, he gets little, he gets a little croaky. We have a, we probably have a sound. He's got a unique voice. No doubt. I wouldn't say Kermit. The stakes. Yeah. I played on. That's your ace. Carlos or Grana hasn't pitched since that first outing. So now I feel like I'm deflated my hopeful bubble.

28:57Yeah, but he's in summer study scheduled for a live today. He's with the stay ready group. Yeah. Who else is part of that? Yeah. Who else is in ready? Who else is in the stay ready ensemble? If if Volpe has one good game at third base and we're facing a lefty starter, does that mean he's the starting third basement in a playoff series like against the left. Do you think so? And I think it's one bad game. I think it's for them. It's going to be way less about what happens in the game. But he said he's going to be working out at third this week.

33:00Yeah. So a lot more of how is he look there and all that stuff. I did have a little tick of optimism. And now I am hunting for it right now with judge being out that just, you know, I believe they can win.
