Welcome to His Light, Your Path.
Today, past a Rod Holler's Senior,
brings us a devotional titled Above or Under.
We'll hear how Solomon, despite all his wealth and wisdom,
found that everything under the sun brought only emptiness.
But in Colossians, Paul points us to a better way.
As you listen, consider, are you chasing after what's here on Earth,
or are you looking higher to find true treasure in God?
Ecclesiastes, chapter 1, verse 3.
What profit have the man of all his labor,
which he takeeth under the sun?
And Colossians, chapter 3, verses 1 and 2.
If ye then be risen with Christ,
seek those things which are above,
where Christ, siteth on the right hand of God,
set your affection on things above,
not on things on the Earth.
A recurring theme in Ecclesiastes is, under the sun.
Solomon realized that under the sun was a place of vanity
and vexation of spirit.
He took advantage of his excessive wealth,
and therein he tried many things under the sun,
to find true fulfillment in life.
But everything came back as vanity and vexation of spirit.
What Solomon and all men need is above the sun thinking.
Paul wrote to the believers at Colossi concerning their thinking.
Consider again Colossians 3, 1 and 2.
If ye then be risen with Christ,
seek those things which are above,
where Christ, siteth on the right hand of God.
Set your affection on things above,
not on things on the Earth.
Living here on Earth can get discouraging,
if we forget the grand reality,
that above the sun is God on his throne.
And he is only a prayer away.
Paul's words were written to believers.
As believers, they were to be seeking the things above.
Their soul has been saved through the redemption offered by Jesus.
Thinking above the sun gives the believer
a grand view of life,
having awaits,
and there is a treasure that fatheth not away.
There will be no more tears.
There will be eternal bliss in God's presence.
But if we focus on the ugly here and now,
then we will be discouraged in life as Solomon was.
Ecclesiastes 114,
I have seen all the works that are done under the sun,
and behold all is vanity and vexation of spirit.
There is a conflict calling for our attention,
simply stated,
set your affections on things above,
and not on things of the Earth.
The choice is ours.
Are we going to long for the things of this world?
Are we going to long for the things above?
Solomon already did this search for satisfaction under the sun.
Rather than wasting our time by repeating his efforts,
let us learn and seek the things above.
You only have one life to live.
Don't waste your time.
Set your affections on things above.
Remember Solomon's conclusion.
Ecclesiastes 1213 and 14.
Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter.
Fear God and keep His commandments.
For this is the whole duty of man.
For God shall bring every work and judgment
with every secret thing,
whether it be good,
or whether it be evil.
That was Pastor Holler's devotional above or under.
We are reminded that life focused solely under the sun
leaves us empty.
But God calls us to set our hearts on things above
where real joy is found.
You only have one life.
Don't waste it on things that won't last.
