I Mean it's every time these two teams meet I guess aside from this C. James your blaster just another kind of Classic back and forth affair low scoring. I thought it'd be high scoring. It wasn't high scoring As we always do I give Mike the floor first just into reactions biggest takeaways Yeah, I mean, I think it wasn't totally shocking game at all I think it was two teams that were pretty closely matched I think there's a lot of plays that probably could have gone either way and sitting there in the fourth order You didn't really know who's gonna win and you know the prevailing thought to me just sitting there was like winner lose for either team I feel like we're gonna see this one again and obviously history, you know has a There's a lot of indications of history that this could happen again. So Yeah, I think there is things that happened to Alabama in this game that we probably could have foreseen Just looking back at you know the Florida Staking especially I think Florida state did a really good job in third downs
And they were able to expose some things in Alabama secondary and then you know there's been some moments too in terms of giving up the run Looking back in Georgia last year as well Where you can see that happening and I think all those things showed up, you know, I think offensively It wasn't shocking to see Keelin turn to ball over one to think that was probably going to happen again But at some point though I don't know if there was a ton that was surprising about the game I think Georgia's a slightly better team and I think that's you look at the rankings going to the game Georgia was a slightly better team I Just the game played out. I think generally as I would have expected I think Alabama was certainly capable of winning the game. I think they had their opportunities as Keelin said You know, just enough things didn't go their way and people can be living about the mis-dependent toss in the fear and call I get that You know in general, I think penalties were a bigger issue for Georgia in the game, you know, they had a number of penalties and
You know, you can go back and look at everyone plus there's you know, potentially a missed face mask earlier in the game, you know, in EJ Crayl too You know, I don't know if the referees necessarily This is where the officials decided this game But there's also fumbles, you know, the ball's on the ground four times, you know for Georgia and they recovered all them Which you know, sometimes it's just trope a lock, you know in terms of both sides. So I don't know it I don't know if it necessarily Makes me feel better about Alabama, but I don't know if the game makes me feel worse if that makes sense I think they showed that they are a team that's in the top 10. I think they'll probably remain in the top 10 tomorrow And I think Georgia showed at their team. It's slightly better with the more veteran quarterback that made you know, some really big time throws When you need to, you know, especially later in the game converting the third down the last one was was huge. So And then Alabama, you know lost their composure as well, you know, the John Lee's penalty
When they probably would have had another chance of getting the ball back in the name be doing something. So There's a lot of things here and there. I don't think you know, if If you're solely blaming the officials on, you know, for this game. I don't think that's the right way to go But I think there's certainly a lot with that play You know, that could have let Alabama winning this game Yeah, 100% I think kind of nailed everything that I was going to say as well I think we talked about it in the in the press box At least early on in the game to your mention to your point. I want to hit on again like There wasn't many surprises. It was What is Keel and going to look like against the teeth bits of this caliber and he looked I think we set it to each other at the same time like you just look kind of rattled a little off little Uncomfortable early on, but then he settles then and make some big throws and the set in the Second quarter to go on and that was a Gutsie play call by Kale Nabor, but that's what Kale Nabor does. That's what's kind of Quite frankly probably put him in the position to be the Alabama Hedgehog She's an aggressive play collar and you know
Heck of a run by a jacqueryl to get stuff to the line and then kind of take it out wide I feel like you just have to kind of the same touchdown every single time in the red zone going left or right on the sweep um and you're right I think Georgia is just that slightly better team that defenses very very good Those liebackers we talked about it all all game as well our special doubts the two first round picks We talked about it earlier in the week as well, but going back to Keel and I think I think you're having a whole different conversation If he looked Terrible and I don't think he did it all like if he's throwing multiple interceptions He obviously had that fumble which was Kind of on the blindside should he have caught onto the ball? Yes, no, that's up to debate. I mean it was blindside was a tough hit off that jame and james kind of Lone assignment if you are I don't know just kind of that free rush that they've had some issues with but I again I go back to like If keelon just was rattled the entire game It wasn't making some big time throws and using his legs can bird on for a couple first downs two in the first try
I think you're having an entirely conversation. No, I'm not saying you know Go to another quarterback by any means that's not what I'm trying to say But I think you let you leave this game a little encouraged By keelon russell I think growing a lot in this game. This was the best defense that he played by far Again, he looked a little bit rattled off off tempo little off timing missing throws But then settles and I think that ultimately had you know a pretty good game and then you bring up. Yeah the miss the If it was a mispiae call or not Leave that up for debate But there was times where alba would probably should have put points on the board in the red zone They did it and that's what kaelin aboard talked about and then he talked about again You mentioned the the fun funnels from Georgia and you know, kaelin aboard kind of said like you got to find a way to get on that ball So yeah, I just again, I'm kind of rambling here, but I think yeah if if keelon is I like there's still a plenty of confidence in what he did I think I agree. No, I think it's it's definitely not a game that I think you put on keelon
I think as he said He needs to play better. I think what what else did he say that there's throws that He missed countless throws that he missed is what he says Um, I just got to do a better job commanding the offense and Yeah, again, I think you saw the difference. He saw like I said exactly what we kind of talked about and expected going into the game Gunner Stockton's a good quarterback gunner Stockton should be in the Heisman conversation Gunner Stockton is a veteran quarterback Remember gunner Stockton made some key plays when he needed to keelon Russell's ceiling is higher Keeling Russell has talent and ability that is is potentially unmatched to call a football right now You know what's his legs too? And there's plays where he took off and it's almost feels like automatic now Like you feel the pocket break down you see keelon start to run and you're like, oh, it's the first down Like don't have to watch the rest of the play Well, but that's kind of the way it's been with him and I think that's If there was a surprising part it was just that some of his throws especially early in the game were just off And there's a couple that were dropped, you know lots of your Brooks dropped one
I guess you could put one on Rico, but it was a low throw There was one we have keelon bad words that maybe the throw was a little bit wide And so he was a little bit more inaccurate Then you would have expected but You know, you're looking at 16 to 30 185 one touchdown 53 percent completion percentage 116 rating versus Stockton It was 18 to 2249 a touchdown You know, you had to pick the brave hybrid one that was a you know great play there But otherwise Stockton was kind of what you expected So again everything was kind of as expect same thing with the running game You know, maybe there was actually a little bit of a surprise, you know, on Georgia's end the fact that Frazier didn't play They were already down Chancé Bowen since so Georgia was without its top two running backs for this game But you know, do I fill up set a great game form 17 carries 120 yards 7.1 year at average and The Walker also came in and averaged you know, 6.9 yards of carry so You know, Georgia was able to run the ball against Alabama
That's something we thought might happen because Alabama's run defense has been good, but to have it really played a A running team like Georgia even last week fluff boff oil going out early in that game pretty much blew up Mississippi stage running game that they might have had so You know, and then for Alabama's running game too I mean, I think we're seeing a continued trend where Daniel Hill is this not effective And that's three games in a row now where he's been under 20 yards only four carries 15 yards in this game for him And those all came pretty early in the game I remember correctly here. Yeah, it was all before half time Three in the first quarter and we saw an uptick and what E.J. Crayo was doing But even E. J. Crayo finishes with five carries for 11 yards now one of those was a touchdown a short touchdown a one yards So that kind of you know scrooze with the average a little bit, but he had that big loss on the first run So yeah, it's Trace on Brown that It continues to trend towards him being your lead back, but overall I don't know
Yeah, the average 5.6 yards of carry part of that was Keelan You know, was the running game for Alabama overall good enough in the game. I think it was decent. I don't know if it was College football season is Modelo season. I think it was a shoulder pad of The thing was k jay bolden. I'm not a referee and i'm not gonna pretend to I don't know if you've seen the seen the replay of it. It was It might have been helmet helmet, but i guess i hear nor there i'm hearing or there Yeah, i would have to look closer at that one. I just saw a quick replay, but um You know If you're not gonna have Ryan Williams potentially a tenisee and That's unknown right now. Obviously concussion There's a process. You don't really know, you know coming out of a game Then i think they're gonna need more to reap the scot you're gonna need more in a lot of see of Brooks Derek meadows is probably your number three after that. So um, you know going on the road and the other thing is to to continue with the injuries racing delgati at center That's a big deal if he's out for any period of time and you're going to a backup center especially on the road At tenisee, which is super loud Um that changes things too. So Uh, that's one of the wise. I think i was on the field already you saw it so kind of
Right a little bit more on that one Yeah, it was on the sack So it was late in the game. I think people were obviously mad about the mist dpi Which i believe is on second down the next play Was the sack of keel and rusted which was a big play a little bit self and people i think need to realize that too Alabama still had a shot After that mist dpi they were still marginally infeal go range was 34 yard line They take a nine-year at sack On third down and then they have to punt the ball to Georgia That's a big play and not only that But yes, racing delgati went down during the play immediately was grabbing his right leg Was helped off the field had a trainer under each arm went to the medical tent and there was not an offensive play after that for Alabama It would have been malwolder if he was the guy warming up on the sideline to snap it Um, so again, that's they don't have a lot of depth on the offensive line And that would be a big deal if he is out killing the borrass said that he'll be evaluated In the coming days which yeah is Kind of what he always says so we'll have to see what exactly that means um and then sorry to
Keep going out the last thing i'll say is tarant screen That was also a big deal within this game a game that we talked about coming in you know Georgia big physical running team It wasn't gonna be a Xavier Griffin game It wasn't gonna be light guys in the box. It was gonna be you need some big bodies Tarant screen was that big body that they went out and got in the portal And granted it wasn't great early in the game for Alabama and run defense But i think especially without tarant screen in the game you can see just some massifles Being opened in the middle of that field for Dwight Phillips and bow walker and um You're saying it depends on tackle without him Um you know Kendrick Bingley Jones. I thought made a couple plays. I thought You know he was decent enough. I think London Simmons was potentially decent enough you and he's I a Fago playing more You had edrick Hill who hasn't really played a lot this year playing more So you talk about going back to the end of last season in the issues that they might have had in the front seven Well, which guys were playing edrick Hill and he's out of Fago replying a lot towards the end of the last season That was also James fifth and Tim Penin um and then the whole story this offseason was getting bigger and improving that part of the defense
Then you lose a guy like tarant screen When that kind of left you in a tough spot And if that's something that keeps him out Any period of time that you know in Tennessee can run the ball um You know the quarter of acquisitions a big question mark, but Can Tennessee run on you but Georgia did would be a question and um we'll have to see he was in walking boot after the game was kind of Lipping around and he came off the field tarant screen was so um sorry to For all that you but that's kind of That's really happy questions anyway, but yeah those are I mean Of course they're big injuries is the two stars, but yeah those between those two especially the interior again In the trenches and getting bigger and those two guys we know very single god he isn't exactly a big guy But he's been good at center. I think for First five weeks for six weeks having him out potentially on the road And we'll see what it looks like hopefully we get some more updates either tonight tomorrow or on Monday for you guys But yeah, that's a huge huge huge below Yeah, I go back to the you know the running back conversation that you had and you had said you know
Would it be surprised if kashon brown comes out in that first snap and obviously that wasn't The case, but it is I mean it's trending that way like you said like I think Daniel Hill like I do some quick math here He's now had 17 carries for 52 yards total in the last three games which Is very similar to what it was last year and that like the the offensive Close in the rush game now you look at the positive side of it is You know far and dull got the crazy dog body the other running backs are really just racial brown as being effective So I don't think it's an offensive line issue. I think it's more of like I don't know if Daniel Hill was I just don't know if he's the answer Then yeah, it is you know ryan col Williams being out potentially with the head injury He got hit pretty hard and that's what calendar more said he's going to head injury and Those are always scary. Let's see what it looks like if he's back in a week But if he's not you have that rego scott lots of your brook step up and like you mentioned Derek meadows may be even Asadarion Morgan
So those those are three not injuries for never ideal, but those are three huge huge huge ones that can really affect In fact, the outcome of next couple weeks and especially go on the road in front of us. It's going to be a very big route I think all of this ahead I'm just saying I think there's probably questions on both sides of the ball right now I think giving up 45 yards to Georgia Who averaged seven and half yards per play? I think continues some of the trends that we saw especially in the Florida state game But I think offensively too if you're banged up between ryan colman Williams and racing um and without Daniel Hill being effective. There's there's questions on offense as well So You look I think a player that was very quiet in this game that I think you probably Wanted to see more out of was devin tomkins Um, you know yonday pier did have a sack. It was potentially the easiest sack in his life He just was not blocked and gunner stopped him was right there for him to take down
Uh, Alabama will take that devin tomkins at a quiet game And I think he even talked about after the game like they need to step it up with the pass rush and try to take some of the pressure off of the secondary uh, he kind of he kind of alternates them between like didn't really do anything east Carolina Then he has a good game in Kentucky and didn't do much of Florida state then he has a good game against South Carolina I think he was productive and misbehave state as well But it's been kind of on and off with him And he's a guy that you actually you absolutely need to have on every game All right, absolutely and look I think this is the point in the season where And we've talked about it before there's no early season by week like you have eight straight games to begin your season And now he got still two more SCC games before the by week and one of them's on the road And um, you know, you just got to endure a little bit here And I think that was kind of a theme of the post game is like how do you not let this snowball especially if you're banged up You're already missing a few guys on defense and now you potentially maybe have a couple guys out um, so you know, we'll have to see here, but
You know, look I wrote about a post game There are 15 teams in the SEC that have already taken a loss in the SEC not just a loss, but it lost within the SEC um The only team that is undefeated in the SEC is Georgia and Alabama look Capable beating Georgia today tonight um It's going to be a long SEC season. There's going to be a lot of twists and turns still to come. There are a lot of games between teams that are Good in the SEC. There are many losses to come um You know how many for Alabama will have to see I think it's again, it's a team that I think is Capable of winning every game that they have left in the regular season. I think it's a team that's Given some of the things we've seen on both sides of the ball is capable of losing the losing a game like Tennessee is capable of losing a game like LSU so um We'll have to see where it goes from here, but a beautifully designed square space website is the difference between thinking about photography school And selling your portraits online

With thumbtack you don't have to be a home pro you just have to hire one you can hire top rated pros See price estimates and read reviews all on the app download today Yeah, again, I kind of said at the start to show and of course you know You know, I'll bet you probably not buying any sauce and this but it is a entirely drastically different conversation If Georgia look like they're at a different level than you are they a little bit better than you Alabama probably so I think it's some of those Holes that if you will that we've always been talking about goes back to at the start of this show that we said a lot of the things That we saw works. We're as expected. I think if you watch both Alabama so far this season. So again, I think it's a Different conversation of Georgia goes out there just absolutely dominates you I know they like you mentioned there 4455 yards of offense That is a exactly a recipe for success, but again, it looks it's entirely different again That if they just outclass you which I don't think they did one more thing and then we'll get to game balls because we're still gonna do that with losses like
I don't even want to ask this but is the secondary just not good That's you know just on sample size now that we're just and and I understand you's only I'm the biggest focus this year and then especially this game and you know the How-call a stupid penalty that you kind of lose your proposal as with K-1 to work talked about but like I wouldn't exactly say Xavier Brown is playing like a world-class quarterback I wouldn't say pray Hubbard's playing like a world-class safety. I know he comes up with that kick Seems to always kind of find the ball could have had a potentially another one in the end zone as well, but like I get it's just we've said it every single time, but it's this secondary. I it's just I don't know Yeah, no that's That's kind of where I'm at on it as well With that said within the regular season I Don't know who exactly is going to test them that's left under schedule I think LSU is probably the most capable team of doing that guess what LSU just lost the Kentucky tonight
You know Tennessee's had issues of quarterback and M's had issues of quarterback You know chat new goes one of your games Auburn has issues of quarterback and Vanderbilt Jared Curtis, you know, but would you have said? Certainly great. Would you have said and maybe I missed but like did you think Florida State could have the potential of Go ahead. All right. So like that's my only thing Yeah, no, I agree So I think the best case scenario for your Alabama is that you've seen the best that you're going to in terms of Donner Stockton in Georgia What you just did With that said you probably It's not like the season ends at the end of the record season after the I had that Preferably for Alabama. I don't think they want that to happen So you're probably up to play another team after that whether it's in the SEC championship and or the playoffs What sort of quarterbacks with sort of offenses? You know A dairy immense at Miami. I'm gonna go to stock them again You know, etc. What does that look like?
Ole Miss turn to that shameless Like what does that look like if you have to play a team like that? Definitely a question. I think there's questions at safety. I think this question is a corner I don't think it's as solid of a group as we would have thought coming into the season But with that said, I don't think the front seven looked as solid both in run defense obviously and also The the past rush in this game I think it did three the first part of the season either so It's all interconnected and Again overall. I think I This particular moment I might have more questions about the defense But that's not to ignore the fact that the offense is potentially banged up and You know, there's there's things not going completely well on that side of the ball either. I just think the potential of killing Russell He leads me to feel better about that side versus a more veteran defense That just What is their potential right now? It's kind of the question Yeah, whatever set we'll close out here with game balls. I'll start offense. I'll go trash on brown
I think he was you know obviously averaging 10 yards of carry nine for 90 I think it was just also that one particular long run that he had in the second quarter Just to kind of open things up because the offense really wasn't moving I mean they were moving the ball. I look at you and said it was like the kind of moving the ball But they're also not like it just and looked a little bit disjointed So he bursts off for that big gain and kind of got clicking a little bit keel has got a little bit more comfortable As the game went on on defense. I feel like it's probably the third or fourth week in a row. It's tough I don't know exactly who you will go with but I I mean I guess I go right hover because he has an intersection But then Alabama goes the quickest three and out you'll ever see off that so what did what did that end up doing but I'll just go with there's a place that bright had to that you're like, you know, we're particularly great either Yeah, you're right. I think probably should take that back And that's just my point. I don't I don't really know who who I would give it to but go ahead and we'll close it out Probably a Caleb Woodson. I mean Yeah, TFL pass break up nine tackles. That's probably the guy
um But there's Tudor's wasn't that sort of defensive play outside of braze Um interception. I mean QVR came close on his interception, but does account Um, there wasn't that sort of defensive play that you know really We guys stepped up and then turned the tide of the game Um, they were just kind of lacking out on defense and Yeah, again, it confidence that I have in this defense is not the same level that it would have had coming into the season or even You know having watched the first game and half of the season really ever since then it's been a little bit Well, I mean even the East Carolina game they gave them a long a long play there So the confidence is not where I thought it would have been at this point in that unit Yeah, um, the explosive plays too. That was something like I support a state game that Payne while but we were definitely going to hear about on Monday your game ball and offense would you disagree with Trashon? No, I think Trashon's right and just to talk about the explosive plays Alabama came into the game leading the SEC and allowing 15 plays of 25 yards more they had
Five more tonight Uh, they had 11 plays at 15 yards or more so it was still a problem Against the Georgia offense that had produced a lot of big plays so far this season too Yeah, number seven as always thank you guys for listening for those that Listen live. We appreciate you staying up late on Saturday You know your cover to them 247 if not you can watch us on YouTube and we'll get up on now Anywhere you get your podcasts by the morning as well.
