Absolutely. A little programming note for everybody. We will have a PHNX Sun Devil show for you on Wednesday, where we're going to be dissecting the Arizona State Offense up against that Kansas defense. I know Maze said it earlier, excited about what Reed Harris and this Arizona State offense should look like in theory against these Kansas Jayhawks again. That is a conversation for Wednesday's show. That show will be pre-taped. So if you're throwing comments in the chat, just don't expect a response for me because I will be in the air. I will be on my way to London because the deli man and I will be bringing you the very first PHNX Sun Devil show live from London on Friday.
Of course, Saturday will have our pre-game show, our post game show. It's set to be a lot of fun, Sharon. I fly out tomorrow morning. So let's not waste any time talking about all the different travel and flights and all the stuff that I got to do instead. Let's talk about the Arizona State Sun Devil specifically that Arizona State defense up against a Kansas offense that has looked relatively lackluster. At least they did a week ago against Missouri again, a ranked opponent. So take that with a grain of salt. The same way that when we talk about Arizona States top 10 matchup against Texas saying M on the road, there is of course some context to that final score. Right. So when we talk about the Kansas overall offense up against Missouri last week, it was kind of a mixed bag overall for the Kansas J-Hawks.
They couldn't run the ball to save their life. In fact, Isaiah Marshall, that Kansas quarterback had 20 carries for just 23 yards. Didn't do a whole lot outside of turning the football over. Whereas if you watched Arizona State up against Texas A&M while you're familiar with how that game went overall, I feel like the sun devil defense played their ass off for the majority of that game. And then of course, you had the avalanche of miscues at the very end of the game, which resulted in such a lot cited score again, 48 to 20 in favor of the Aggies. And while I do believe that Arizona State defense played relatively well, all things considered there are still certainly some things to tighten up and clean up going into this game against the Kansas J-Hawks. But before we get into how Arizona States defense can smother Isaiah Marshall and how they can tear apart these Kansas J-Hawks, at least for the sun devil defense.
Let's go ahead and take a look as to how these two teams stack up again, the sun devil defense up against that Kansas offense. We've got how each of these two schools ranks in terms of the big 12 in terms of offensive and of course defensive team statistics. So when we're talking about Kansas, their offense as a whole to this point in the season, this is a Kansas offense that averages about 434 total yards per game. That is 12 in the big 12 considered on the opposite end of the Arizona State sun devils. They've given up about 221 total yards per game through the first two weeks of their season, which is good for second in the conference. Now through the air Arizona State secondary has been relatively smothering just 124 past yards per game allowed for the sun devil's. That's also good enough for second in the big 12 on the flip end Isaiah Marshall and
the J-Hawks. They're averaging about 255 total yards through the air that is eighth in the conference. But what about on the ground? Well, this is where you see a little bit more of an even matchup in terms of where these two schools rank in the big 12 Kansas as a whole. This is about 179 yards per game on the ground. Now this is heavily skewed to what Kansas did in a accomplished week one against Long Island, where I want to say they had upwards of over 400 yards on the ground. Like I mentioned, didn't run the ball very effectively last week against Mizzou ASU on the flip end. They're giving up about 97 total rush yards per game, which is good enough for 11 in the big 12 just kind of goes to show you that the run defense in the big 12 stacks up pretty ridiculously. Now in terms of points per game Kansas is averaging about 36 points per game offensively to ASU giving up about 27 points per game, which is good for 15 in the big 12 again heavily
skewed toward the 48 points that the sun devil's allowed against Texas A and M totally off track here. But those numbers in terms of total yards allowed on the ground again Arizona State ranking 11th with 97 rush yards per game allowed. Excuse me, geez, I housed Hawaiian barbecue before this show. So you're going to have to excuse me. Do you by any chance have any semblance of a guess and this goes for chat as well, which team in the big 12 has allowed the fewest rush yards through two games and do you have any semblance of a guess as to how many yards they've allowed through two weeks. Yeah, well says 90 rush yards allowed 11. Yeah, that's wild. Just wait to hear who the first team is. Run down the list. I know it can't be you of a nope, because BYU torched them on the ground. It's tough, man. It's not bailer.
Nope. Absolutely not. Dave Miranda can't stop a nosebleed, let alone a running back. Is it like a team that's low in our power rankings? No, honestly, no, it's a team that I think we would both consider in the upper echelon of, you know, teams in this conference. Jake says got to drink so many Guinness's during this game. You and me both, buddy. You and me both. Yeah, I'm going to go I'm going to go with Kansas State incorrect. It is the Houston Cougars. Oh, sure, I got a right in the chat in terms of run defense. Shared got it right through two weeks. Cold, they've allowed 20 total rush yards. 20 total rush yards. No, no, no, no. That keepers messed up. 20 total rush yards through two weeks. How? It beats me. Plenty of bunch of nobody's. I don't know. We're going to see what they look like on defense against Texas Tech on Friday. That should be a lot of fun. But just want to throw that random fun fact out there.
We can go ahead and get back on track talking about the Arizona State Sunday. We'll defense again up against this Kansas offense. This feels like a real opportunity for the Arizona State defense to make some noise. Both week one and week two. All eyes were on, of course, the Arizona State offense, right? You talked about the wide receivers. You wanted to see Reed. You want to see O'Marion. Carter Bowley had the best debut statistically of any quarterback in Arizona State history. Kaisen Brown, Marquis Gilles, took their first carries of sun devils this season for touchdowns. Grayson Rigden went over a hundred yards through the air receiving, right? It was all offensive fireworks and you get to week two and it was a lot of the same in terms of look at the hype around Reed Harris. Carter Bowley in this offense. Look solid defensively. I feel like they didn't get enough credit for what they did overall as a unit.
And why would you when the final score says you lost by 28 points in the opposition scored 48 now again, a good chunk of those points, 14 of the 48 or because of the Arizona State offense, you could throw more points on special teams or the Arizona State offense. If you want to, right, you had the fourth and one on your own side of the field. Doesn't work. A and M gets the ball on in plus territory, right? You look at the muff punt in the first half. There you go. You go ahead and you put Texas A&M in the red zone. So you set up the ASU defense in a tough position. And again, there were some things to clean up. We talked the other day about some miscommunications in the secondary that we'd like to see get cleaned up. Just players passing on wide receivers or pass catchers to the next man in their zone as opposed to chasing them and following them and then thus creating holes in a zone that shouldn't realistically exist, right? But overall, this feels like an opportunity where again, there is going to be a lot of focus on what Arizona State's offense looks like.
You have a guy like Kenny Dillingham, you have weapons on the perimeter like Reed, No Marion who we'll talk about on Wednesday that they are the must see TV. There are the reason a lot of folks turn on the game. But I've said it once and I'll say it again offense entertains defense wins championships. The Sarah's on a state defense has an opportunity to smother this Kansas J. Hawk offense. A Kansas J. Hawk offense led by quarterback Isaiah Marshall, who is somewhat of a duel threat quarterback. Now the caveat here is he is not in any sort of conversation like a Marcel Reed. He is not that type of player. He can't throw the ball with the semblance of accuracy that Marcel does. He doesn't necessarily have the same athletic movements that a player like Marcel Reed does. With that said, he can still beat you if you give him a chance. Now Isaiah Marshall, last week specifically against Mizzou, he was chasing. He was chasing. He was seeing ghost downfield and he turned the football over a number of times.
I think Arizona State can do a lot of the same and find success the way that Mizzou did. You force this guy to move. You force him to throw the football downfield. He doesn't have an arm like a he doesn't have a cannon for an arm whatsoever. Again, turnover type of quarterback where he can get a little flustered at times. And for Arizona State, Cole, I feel like pressure has to be the starting point. Similar to what we said about Marcel Reed, anytime that you find yourself in a position against a dual threat quarterback, if you can push that pocket, especially in the interior and you can force this guy to roll, right, whether it's rolling to the right, rolling to the left, you put yourself in my mind in a position to make this kid uncomfortable. Just because a QB is athletic doesn't necessarily mean that they want to run the football and throw on the run, right?
Marcel Reed at times made it look easy. Even quarterback and college football on the pros make throwing on the run look easier than it is, especially for a smaller quarterback, Lycan Isaiah Marshall. Cole, I think again, CJ fight, Jalen Thompson, Clayton Smith, Zach Swanson, that flurry of past rushers that you have in the interior and on the edges of this sundaeville defense, feels like the starting point for where Arizona State can potentially win this match up on the defensive side of the football. Yeah, for all those guys, the mission is to create havoc, create chaos back there for Isaiah Marshall to work because like you said, once he gets that pressure, he is looking to run first. You just look at the Kansas passing attack as a whole, they don't have a go-to receiver. They spread the ball around, but the highest number of receptions by a single receiver on that team last week, first, Mizu was three. Yeah. Three receptions to one guy. So they don't have a go-to target at this point in time.
When you look at Isaiah Marshall specifically, it was 13 for 30. Yeah, not good. For an AQBR of 20.7. And mind you, this is with Andy Colton-Neckey coming back to call the place. Yeah, that's fair. Andy Colton-Neckey, he was responsible for Jalen Daniels and the two seasons that he had in the beginning of his Kansas career where he looked like he could be a pretty good NFL quarterback and then of course he left to Penn State and he coordinated that team to the college football playoff. This guy's resume is expansive, right? It's expansive. He's a qualified coordinator. He's creative. I remember him doing stuff where he put two quarterbacks on the field, hand the ball off to Jalen Daniels and then they throw it down the field. So Andy Colton-Neckey, I respect him as a coordinator and as a scheme designer. But dog, you're throwing 13 for 30 for two touchdowns and two interceptions with a QBR of 20.7 with a coordinator like that.
Yeah. I mean, that tells you everything I need to know about where you're at as a quarterback in your development. Yeah, I mean, just simply not good enough if you're that Kansas offense, 1000%. One thing I want to get ahead of here also is today's show and all of our shows here on the pH and X-N level show presented by and sponsored by Kona Big Wave. Of course, bringing the Aloha to Sun Devil country, please drink responsibly Kona Big Wave for those 21 and older can't forget Kona Big Wave guys. Let's ride the wave, right? The defensive success that we saw from the Sun Devils in the first half against Texas A&M, expecting a lot of that same like just caliber defense on Saturday against an offense in Kansas that like you said, Cole, just simply has not been good enough when it comes to playing power for competition, not just to start this year, right? If you remove the long Island game, you go back to last year and this Kansas offense wasn't
very good, right? Now at times, I want to say specifically toward the end of the year, this Kansas offense slowly started to figure it together or figure it out. And they found themselves in a position to beat some opponents that they realistically weren't given a chance to do. But going into this week against an Arizona State defense that since Brian Ward has been here, if you remove the 2023 season and you go from 2024 on, this has been a group that has been relatively dominant defensively, right? Like whether it be against the run against the pass, I think the one thing that this Sun Devil defense has struggled with over the last two seasons has been taking the football away, right? Turnover luck is a real thing. They had a lot of turnover luck in 2024. We're able to take away the football at the same rate in 2025. And to this point in the season, the Sun Devils only have what one turnover, right? You have the I and T from lyric Rawls coming out of halftime last week against A&M.
You didn't force any turnovers week one against Morgan State. You force Isaiah Marshall to make mistakes. He will give you an opportunity to take away the football more than once. And that's where I want to continue this conversation in terms of creating takeaways in which playmakers could potentially find themselves in a position to have a big game overseas on the other side of our first break. Right this number down. Number two, 7a3, 8a4, 1. Again, that is 602, 7a3, 8a4, 1. That is the number for Mark and Alexis Breyer, the husband and wife law team. If you remember Kansas was really the the final push for Arizona State to make the big 12 championship in 2024. They set themselves up in a position late in the year for Arizona State to of course go on a run and find themselves with tie breaker advantages. That ultimately put Arizona State in the big 12 championship. With that said, I don't know if you all my debt of gratitude that has anything to do
with on the field, maybe just a tip of the cap. Thank you. Maybe not running up the score. If you have the opportunity in this game, I would say that would be the the debt of gratitude served and paid to the Kansas J.O.X. If you do find yourself in that position, but again, I don't think the sun devils are going to at any point take their foot off of the gas when it comes to this matchup. And the side devil defense taking on Isaiah Marshall in that Kansas offense. Like I said earlier, Marshall threw a couple of interceptions against Mizzou. I believe he fumbled the football against Mizzou. This is an ASU team that we've seen at times through 2026 already. Get to the quarterback, bring them down, push the pocket, but we haven't necessarily seen that turnover luck. We know that there are playmakers on this Arizona state defense that can take away the football. Lyric Rawls, the former Kansas J.O.X. did so for the first time all season for a sun devil
defender just last week, right? We've talked about action stamps and the pedigree and the size and the athleticism and the length that he has brought to this ASU defense Rodney Bemidge opposite him, right, playing a perimeter corner roll. You talk about Buggie Wilson. Oh, and long. Some of these other players on this Arizona state defense that in all honesty, it's time. It's time to show everybody how good this defense is because I, I mean, I've said it a number of times over the off season, getting through fall camp. This ASU defense is one of the best in the big 12, right? Well, this is the opportunity to do so. You weak one. Again, nobody talked about you. Nobody talked about it. In fact, the only thing people said about the say issue defense was that they gave up seven points, right? You get to week two. All of the focus is on ASU's offense, the playmakers and of course the collapse at the end. Well, this is an opportunity to show everyone in the big 12 that the Arizona state defense is legit, right?
Whether that be CJ fight Jalen Thompson, the Michigan state transfer upfront, creating pressure and potentially forcing fumbles, getting sex. The second level of this defense, Owen Long, Martel Hughes making some noise, whether that be in the ground game or doing it in coverage against high dens and running backs or where I'd like to see it most, the Sun Devil secondary, Lyric Rawls, Asuna Stance, Boogie Wilson, Montana Warren, Ronnie Bemidge, week one, there were some mistakes. Week two, there was some miscommunication. Got the pick and overall I don't put a lot of what happened on the defense. Week three, this is the opportunity. This is the moment for Arizona state defense to take the cake to be the headline of the game. And again, we'll talk about the ASU offense on Wednesday. It's an offense that should thrive, but there's no reason that the Sun Devil defense can't
be the story in this game, creating those extra opportunities for the ASU offense. Completely taking away what Kansas has shown that at a certain time, they can do. Kansas doesn't want to throw the ball 30 times a game. They don't. They do not want to get in a predicament that they found themselves in a week ago against Mizzou where Isaiah Marshall had to throw the ball 30 times and run the ball 20 times. That is not a recipe for success against anyone. Let alone an SEC team like Mizzou or an Arizona state defense like they will see in London this weekend. Kansas wants to run the football against Long Island that I know it was Long Island. They had like over 400 yards of rushing. That's what they want to do. They want to run the football. They love Dylan Edwards, who at this point is just collecting big 12 jerseys everywhere he goes. They want to run the football with him and then open it up and make the defense respect it. And then Isaiah Marshall can do what he does from an athletic standpoint there.
ASU can take away the run. That's how you win this game defensively for me. The turnovers will come. Isaiah Marshall will give you an opportunity at some point on Saturday to change possession. He will. He's done it every week. Yeah, no, absolutely. I mean, excuse me, I want one of our bottle service graphics post game on Saturday to be a defensive player. Yeah, I want to hear the broadcast just be harping on one of these Arizona state secondary players like he's locked down on that side of the field or one of the safeties. He's flying everywhere coming downhill, making tackles covering the back end of the secondary, making sure that Kansas, when they run their shop plays, it's nowhere close to being completed. Yeah. I want this defense to get respect in that national spotlight and have their name called on the broadcast and be the force that is the story of this game.
Yeah. Yeah, Ben, she's just put a QB put a spy on Kansas quarterback and stack the line show that they can beat our DBs. Yeah, I mean, David says KU is going to be in this game as it was really good to I think this will be a tough game. Yeah, I mean, the spread is I want to say five points, five and a half points. I'm going to be honest with you. I think Arizona State is a significantly better team than the Kansas J.O.X. I do. All three phases, I think offensively they're significantly better. There's more talent defensively. I think there's more talent, special teams, the special teams. It matters and we can, if we want to give the nod to Kansas or want to say they're even, we can do that too. Overall, Arizona State defensively has playmakers. They have players on this defense that will be playing on Sundays. It's time to see those players because we've seen them on the offensive, the offensive side of the ball. We've seen Reed Harris. We've seen a warning Miller. We've seen cutter bowling take a step. We've seen the running backs feast at times. I want to see the defense. Like you said, Cole, I want to get to a point where we're 50 minutes through a post game
show and then we can talk about the ASU offense because we have talked about the sundaevel defense for such a large portion of the show. And again, last week was a weird one. You give it 48 points and that's what the scoreboard says, but I don't put that on the ASU defense. This is a good group that's not getting nearly enough tension, enough attention. This is the opportunity to put it all together, right? To go out there and show everybody that Owen Long is who we say he is, that CJ fight is who he says he is, that lyric Rawls and Boogie and all these other guys on this Sunday level defense are that good. And again, the turnovers will come. The takeaways will be there. You just have to be in a position play after play after play to force Kansas's hand, right? That's what Mizzou did. When you, if you can get a lead on this team, Kansas will abandon the run, right? We saw it last week against Mizzou. They got down to a point where it was we have to throw the football. We have to throw the football.
We have to throw the football. What did they do? They threw the football at a very ineffective inefficient, you know, clip. The Sunday level defense can do that. I want to see these past pressures get after it. I want to see Jalen Thompson have a two, three, sat game, right? Because we've seen Jalen Thompson specifically call really find a way to beat offensive lineman. Get to the quarterback, put them in precarious situations. Now, if you're an edge rusher, it's great to get a quarterback hurry. It's great to get a pressure. You want to get paid? You want to find yourself playing on Sundays? Sex or how you do it? You have to bring down the quarterback. Jalen Thompson and CJ fight in my mind are the two guys up front on the defensive side of the ball that can really change this game from being okay, competitive big 12 team, right? It's too dominant because they just simply can't block those two guys.
And you got to be looking at your chops. Yeah. You got to be looking at your chops against a quarterback like this, seeing what he did last game, seeing how he performed when he was chasing a lead from the other team. This guy is going to take longer than some of the more established veterans at the quarterback position in the conference to see the field and find his correct reads and just go through his progression. In my eyes, like the passers-by should eat this game. They should eat basically just off of that sole reason. This guy is going to process the game at a slower rate than quarterbacks, other quarterbacks that Arizona state will face this season. Yeah. 1000% right? And Kansas knows that Kansas is going to go into this game trying to force Arizona state to play both the run in the pass, right? You want to keep every offense wants to keep the defense honest, right?
Where they can't sell out against the run. They can't sell out against the pass. You have to play like Kansas can beat you either way. That's why on the other side of our second break, we're going to talk about the most important part to Arizona state's game plan in the Union Jack classic on the defensive side of the ball. Again, that conversation and more on the other side of our second break. Look financial success begins with the right institution and of course the right account. Hit the like button hit the subscribe button drop a five star review wherever you get your podcast couple questions in the chat that I want to get to but first and foremost want to thank everybody for watching live watching after the fact and of course all of you listening on audio as well then she's the kicking things off saying what is the mind that you're playing set of ASU football after the a and m game how are they handling it I feel like if you are a son devil football player and again I can't crawl into their head and tell
you exactly what they're thinking. But I think for me and in cool you can you can give your perspective on it too as a coach like I feel like a game like that you again you have to flush it fast right like we said on the post game this this is a this is a team that by the time you touch down in the UK you needed to be fully on the Kansas you needed to be off of what happened against a m and you needed to be fully prepared to take on your first big 12 opponent of the season. I think if I were a son of a football player my mindset is first off damn right like we had every opportunity to win this game. We heard all week long about the environment we heard all week long that we weren't good enough we heard all week long about what the other team was capable of doing and yet we were in it in a dog fight for three quarters. So my mind is damn like we we gave that one away but the positive side of that in terms
of my mentality again I can't speak necessarily for exactly what these guys are thinking is we know how good we are. And if you didn't we just showed you. We just showed you that we could play three quarters of football in one of the toughest places to play in all of college football against the top 10 team with the top 10 defense and we can have them on the ropes at times hell we can win that game if we clean up the mental errors if we clean up the mistakes that would be my mindset is you can't let yourself sulk too much about how the game got away from you if you're going to take anything away from that contest it's got to be that we have the capability to accomplish everything that we still want to do in 2026 you can't get caught up in a week to loss against a noncon opponent you can't right because Arizona states goals for 2026 are far beyond going undefeated that you want to go undefeated absolutely did you want to win every game
on your schedule absolutely. That's gone that opportunity is done you know what's not though beating Kansas Union Jack classic beating Texas tech being undefeated at home beating BYU getting the territorial cut back playing in the big 12 championship for the second time in three seasons potentially earning a bid to the college football playoff those goals are still on the table for Arizona state in 2026 that's why when I say flush it and get rid of it it's it's an L you watch the tape you take that for the technical side of things you don't watch that and think man if only we would have done this if only we'd have done that that's for the that's for the fans that's for the fans to think about that right but the players the coaches it needs to be okay onto the next one right cool you can't let yourself get wrapped up in what could have been when there are still so many opportunities in front of you every set every
Saturday from now till December 100% I think it makes it even easier to flush that loss when you're immediately hopping out of flight to the other side of the world right like it puts you in a new environment puts you in a different mindset where you can't just keep playing the what ifs yeah back home in your dorm room or in in the Arizona state film room yeah right just watching the same place over and over again yeah no like you're in London new environment having new food it's done what's done is done focus on the game at hand I think the other thing if you're the coaching staff and maybe some of the players is you're thinking thank God that those issues rear their head that early in the season yeah almost think you don't make it through the Kansas game through the Hawaii game and then you just have a similar meltdown versus Texas tech right thank God it happened versus a good quality
opponent that we competed with for three quarters and then just let the game get out of hand in the fourth quarter in in a wretched spiral yeah agreed I'd rather you you suffer these losses this way week two than week eight right we're having a completely different conversation if you implode like you did last week week eight right we're nine week 10 those games mean a little bit more if we're being honest with you because their conference play games right they're big 12 games they mean something toward what you're able to accomplish at the end of the year in terms of conference championship that's where it starts for Arizona state that is still a possibility but as it is for everybody else in this conference Kansas J. Hawks can say the same exact thing the Baylor Bears can say the exact same thing there are a lot of teams still in the big 12 they can say that of man this game last week didn't go our way but guess what everything we still want to accomplish is ahead of us eventually you're going to get to a point in the
season where that's not true you're going to get to a point where you need to be peaking at the right time and for Arizona state to have the collapse that they did in the fourth quarter against Texas A&M take it learn from it move on and don't make the same mistakes twice right for Arizona state and I know there was a comment in the chat earlier I don't know if it was from banshees dee or will where they were talking about how it had been brought up in the past how in 2015 the A&M game really kind of imploded the Arizona state season well that was a different coaching staff to different team since kidney dealing game has been in temp b correct me if I'm wrong we haven't seen a season implode right 2023 not not as guys by any means and you had a self imposed bull band because of the regime prior I wiped that season away
2024 you take care of business no season implosion now where there are games where you potentially imploded absolutely but you don't let that carry into the season right good coaches don't allow that to happen good teams don't allow that to happen 2025 I wouldn't even say there was a season implosion right where there are moments where the team imploded for sure talk about Mississippi state but how did the team respond the following week pressure they went to wake o texas and they beat baler say what you want about david randis or your robertons gunslinger was a gunslinger they won that game they found a way to win that game right again you can have moments that's what the season is you heard jameel talk about it yesterday right there's always going to be good there's always going to be bad how do you respond game by game week by week play by play and for Arizona state new game new opportunity new moment to go one and oh it's the most cliche
thing that you hear from coaches we got to go one and oh got to go one and oh got to go one and oh as a fan you can take that deeper than the coaches giving it to you the coaches telling you we need to go one and oh this week okay well how do you do that every single one of your players on offense defense special teams every rep that they're in that's an opportunity to go one and oh that's what it is you go one and oh you do your 11th you execute and you can find yourself in a position to win a football game especially with the talent that Arizona state has again on the offensive and defensive side of the football now Kansas's goal this week is like I said earlier to make you play the run and the pass for Arizona state and call I'd love to get your thoughts on this I think the most important part of this game for Arizona state is the first 15 plays I think the first 15 plays of this game on defense for Arizona state are going to tell you just
about everything that you need to know about how this game is going to go if the sun devils can force Isaiah Marshall into third and long situations which means the sun devils anyway you want to slice it stacking the box bringing pressure sitting in their base defense win first down against the run win second down right if it gets to first in 10 to second and eight to third and seven I consider that a win for Arizona state's defense now of course you have to get off the field but what Kansas is not going to do and they showed you last week is Kansas is not going to spend a full four quarters because they don't have the luxury of being able to have the type of talent Arizona state does on both sides of the football is Kansas showed you that they are not for four quarters going to run the football at least not the way that they want to right what
do they want to get Dylan Edwards in space right he's an electric player with a football in his hands when he's healthy and when he has blockers but if you can contain him first 15 plays offensively for Kansas are going to be scripted as every drive normally is first 15 plays right if you can contain Kansas's offense on first down I would bet a lot of money that by the time you get to that third quarter if Arizona state's offense is firing the way it should be against his Kansas secondary you're going to find yourself in a position that you were in a week ago which is Isaiah Marshall running the football on his own accord 20 times which only went for 23 yards sure I'll live by it Arizona state contained Marcel Reed for under 50 yards on the ground Isaiah Marshall is not a problem to me or you're going to see Isaiah Marshall sit back there and try and air it out 30
times plays right into Arizona state's hands goal yeah I mean there needs to be pressure from the jump like we discussed 15 plays of Kansas's offense they'll be scripted I want Andy Colton Nikki looking at his sheet up there in the box saying well those are my 15 best plays start the game and none of them worked really well so now I'm hunting to the rest of the areas of my call sheet trying to figure out what I'm going to call for the rest of the game yeah that's what I want to see and then yeah hopefully you have some three inouts in that beginning sequence for the defense as well you force Isaiah Marshall to pass in some third and long situations and that's where I want to see the pass for a shine I don't want Isaiah Marshall completing these third and long situations by the skin of his teeth right the receiver barely catches the football like no it should be frantic and it should be hectic back there for him I want to see him searching for answers in real time and
begin to not trust his protection it begin to look to run first right into that quarterback spy that Brian Ward will deploy on him I need Isaiah Marshall to buy the end of that game on Saturday I need him to mentally feel like he played a college football game in London against one of the best defenses in the big 12 that sounds again silly right but you're on what in eight hour time difference here in another country up against a really good defense I need him to feel that whether that be first 15 plays first 30 first half three quarters four quarters he needs to feel it by the end of that game Isaiah Marshall needs to exhale he needs to be like man thank god that's over that's what a good defense does to the opposition you smother them you get the up the opposing OC to really be doing what Cole said examining the play sheet for man those first 15 didn't work
those were the best things we had all week long now they're searching now they're behind the eight ball that's whenever zone of states defense can do what we've seen them do for a number of seasons and that is be dominant right may set it earlier in the chat like Isaiah Marshall through an unbelievable amount of pet an unbelievable amount of passes that could have been takeaways for the mizu defense a week ago he's going to give you opportunities you just have to find yourself in a position to where you can make the most of those opportunities now if Kansas does find success on the first 15 if Kansas does run the ball effectively for four quarters then you put yourself in a different position right and I know we're way ahead of it but that's why for me the run defense is going to be a must watch on Saturday as much as I want the playmakers to take away the football as much as I watch Alan Thompson and Clayton Smith and all these ed rushers to eat when it comes to sacks it starts with stopping the run making this team one dimensional an Arizona state under Brian
Ward has been phenomenal it's stopping the run over the last three seasons and change genuinely even in 2023 they were relatively strong when it came to stopping the run especially in some key games do it the same way that we talked about CJ fight a week ago I guess Texas a and M doing the same going into this week you held your own and the SEC perfect that means you should feast here fry j hot carve up that bird any other bird analogy you want to throw out CJ fight needs to hear it the son of a defense should shine to the point where we're talking about the son of a defense stealing the show everyone's coming back from London going into the by week and instead of having the conversation about Reed Harris and a Marion Miller's breakout game and cut a boldly looks awesome again and kyson brown did this that or the other let's get to man Hawaiian Baylor and tech they
are going to really really struggle against the say issue defense with a conversation then becomes man do we get the sundayville defense to smother LJ Martin and bearbock Meyer on Halloween like I want that to be the conversation because then you get everybody talking about man look how balanced this team is they can run the ball they can throw the ball they can block and they can play defense with anyone in the big 12 it's going to start on the defense side of the ball this week yeah again offense was championships call all due respect or offense entertains defense was championships yeah and I want to see the offense be able to have a three or four play drive because their defense sets them up yeah sets up shop right allows them to set up shop like right on the cusp of the red zone and then it's two kyson brown runs later in a slant route to read Harris and
we're celebrating in the end zone that's what I want to see short drives for the offense create turnovers give them that short side of the field to work with because they had to go on some long drives versus Texas a and m yeah they did and it wore down the offensive line I don't think it's a surprise that the protection broke down in the fourth quarter agreed yeah Westby says pocket presence is huge there's an acubian the nation getting four seconds to throw um yeah and if they are well they're offensive lineman are playing on Sundays that's usually how that how that goes and Kansas doesn't have an elite level offensive line like I want to wrap up this conversation on the Arizona State defense challenging and dominating this Kansas offense on the other side of our final break here I want to tell you a little bit about our friends over at hella river resorts and casinos they are the go to spot if you are trying to catch a big game genuinely if you are trying to

recorded cold can attest to that um over the last several several days so we will certainly certainly get back on track no doubt uh Ben she says when do you leave tow tree have you said the pH and X schedule for this week yet so I leave on Wednesday I leave Wednesday I actually leave tomorrow morning um but we will have a pH and X sundable show it is pre taped um and we are talking about the Arizona State offense against the Kansas defense fun show that we've already recorded for you guys highly recommend again you tune in tomorrow at one um and yeah we won't have a show on Thursday but we will be back live from London on Friday pregame post game on Saturday um and of course we will still be doing a watch party here in the states over at the Glen Rosa restaurant and of course bar same place that we were at last week um grass clippings rolling hills it was it was a lot of fun over there 9 a.m start time lot of TVs a lot of drinks go go give it a shot
it's it's going to be the spot to watch ASU overseas taken on um of course a Kansas team that we spent the majority of today talking about not really being good enough on the offensive side of the ball at least to start this 2026 season and a big part of that has to do with Isaiah Marshall right can ASU defense be the reason that the sun devils win this game yes we've already seen then this defense can play at a really high level I think a dominant performance for me looks like holding Kansas to under three touchdowns multiple sacks multiple turnovers if you're able to do that man I've got a good feeling that Arizona state's defense will be the talk of the UK following Saturday's Union Jack classic I genuinely believe that I think the biggest advantage for Arizona state on the defense side of the ball going into this matchup is the beef you have
a front especially a group that I feel like held their own Jamil Douglas said he felt like they held their own against Texas a.m. perfect well now you're back to playing big 12 competition let's not play up and down the competition let's play better than competition every single week I think Arizona state has the edge when it comes to the beef of front I also like ASU second air versus Kansas is wide receivers cold touched on it earlier Kansas doesn't necessarily have elite level wide receivers I want to say Nick McMillan is there leading receiver on the season if you're able to match up with him well which I think the Sun of those do then from that point forward you should be good you should be good dealing with the weapons I'm not worried about Dylan Edwards again he's collecting big 12 jerseys like infinity stones at this point in time okay modern day Thanos literally modern day Thanos and Iron Man just so happens to be Ashton stamps or lyricals right set the tone 15 plays in Arizona state's defense should look the part you set the tone against Texas a.m. let's not forget the Aggie said 14 total yards in the first quarter against Arizona
state the fewest that they've had I want to say in 10 plus seasons well you can do that against the Kansas J. Hawks no doubt multiple sacks multiple turnovers and you're going to find yourself with a dub at the very least on the defensive side of the football look that is going to do it for today's episode of the pH next son of a show make sure you follow show pH next underscore son of us on Instagram Twitter and on tiktok you can follow me and Anthony underscore totary you can of course follow our offensive coordinator cold top of my CR top of underscore on social and like I said show tomorrow same time 1 p.m. no show Thursday back in action on Friday live from London in the meantime go Devils in peace
