First of all, we didn't even discuss who was going to open the podcast. Oh, true. We're just flying by the seat of our pants. This is the actual thing. This is the Ax Bomber podcast. What are we going to call it the Ax Bomber podcast when we talk about it? We're just going to call it the Ax Bomber. I had literally never been about this as I was changing from my work shirt to my podcast in the shirt, I guess. Early on, I was like, what are we going to call this? I know we have a name. But when we see the cute thing is, if we just call it Ax Bomber, then we can get clips from a lot of different Japanese feds that call out the Ax Bomber. See, I like that. So I think during the program, like this is the Ax Bomber podcast. But I think we're just going to call it Ax Bomber. I had to explain to Tony earlier on the NFL show what an Ax Bomber was.

3:03I can't, I mean, yeah, it's not really his wheelhouse. Yeah, it's not really a WWE Western wheelhouse thing. Which is funny. It is. I mean, it's, you know, we got the clothesline from Hell and a few others. But they called it that. They don't call it the Ax Bomber. I don't think WWE, I mean, I don't think WWE is a real thing. I don't think WWE, I mean, we have the power bomb. And is there any other bomb move in WWE? Well, there was the last ride, which that's what people refer to a certain power bomb as. What do they actually jackknife with the bomb, with the word bomb in it? Batista. The Batista bomb, you're right. And of course, currently just the power bomb. I don't think they would use the word bomber in a new finisher these days. I don't, they don't like to use different words either, because they don't use Larry at either. They just use clothesline over and over and over again. It is true. Even though there's difference in clothesline and Larry. So. And the next bomber in a Larry and a clothesliner.

4:04Oh, different too. Yeah. Yeah, it's true. And Jay, even JBL's clothesline from Hell, was it fully an Ax Bomber? It was a little more of a Stan Hansen Western Larry kind of thing. Which I wouldn't tell you it was. Yeah. But it's the closest we've come. Um, so let's, let's, let's, I've got, that gives me an idea. So then we can talk about maybe later if we have time. So this is the Ax Bomber podcast. We'll call it Ax Bomber throughout this show. And so basically this is another new pro wrestling podcast here. Yeah. We don't have enough of them, right? Exactly. So now we have more. So this is another new one as part of the chair shut dot com. Chair shot radio network. What you can of course find at the chair shot dot com. The chair shot dot com always use your head. And basically if you've listened to the old Greg Demarco show, you know that Patrick and I podcasted about wrestling for well over a decade,

5:04almost 15 years. But in recent six or so months, we talked less and less and less about wrestling. And that was mainly because Patrick go doubt was watching less and less and less wrestling. And I'm not a fan of like the wing it variety. And so we just started talking about other things that weren't wrestling. And thus the grown ass man podcast was born. But it didn't take long for me to get that itch or maybe that it's never went away. And so, um, different options came about here and there. And thus, uh, the Ax Bomber was born. So Andrew Bellas and I will talk wrestling on a weekly basis. On a weekly basis, on a live every Thursday after noon. So go up shortly before, uh, TNA impact wrestling hits the airwaves. And we record this on Wednesdays goes live on Thursdays. So if we miss, if a major news item breaks on a Thursday, then then you might be like, why aren't they talking about X? But besides that, I think we should be in pretty good shape. So this is, and it's hard to stay that on top of things anyway.

6:05Because there's wrestling every goddamn day. It's so funny because just go back five, you know, before the birth of AEW, it's almost like AEW caused wrestling to double, even though it didn't double. It's just fair how to wrestling in the days. And, and even then, because NXT was on the network, it wasn't even on the CW. So it was a little bit of a different product and evolve wasn't even a thing. And now we've got, and at one point with three AEW shows plus one honor. And then TNA was, you know, they got their cable deal. So, I mean, so much just just happened and grew and developed and wrestling's everywhere. You can't escape it. You can't escape it. So W2B mostly paper views are on Saturdays, AEW are on Sundays. Like, it's just every TNA, it's hit or miss depending on who's running whatever other day. Yeah, usually look, their specials are Fridays, but their paper views are weekends. I don't even know if Balfour glory is a Friday Saturday or Sunday.

7:05It's, it's the 11th of October. The 11th of October. So that might be a Saturday. Which is a looking at the clock. It's a Sunday. It is a Sunday. So there you go, the traditional wrestling paper view day. I went to Balfour glory in either 2010 or 2011. Oh, gosh, here. It was here in Arizona and I went. And that was the Balfour glory where Jeff Hardy won the TNA World Championship from Austin, here. Nice. That was a good match, at least. It was a good match, it was a good event. And I think the most surprising thing of the event was how over Austin, Aries was. He had surprised you. And I'm going to be in Phoenix, Arizona. Because so, okay. And this is the problem with podcasts and with me. We always do. So before Balfour glory hits the air. And I thought they'd have matches and stuff during the pre show, but they didn't. We're just sitting around doing nothing. Because they had so many, so much time, they didn't use. Maybe like three or five minutes before the, before the paper views, supposed to hit air.

8:09They send Austin Aries to the ring. Full, you know, entrance video, whatever. And he cuts a heel promo. But here's the problem with Austin Aries cutting a heel promo. Sometimes he's just so good that people like it. Yeah. So now he went, and I think they did it because they probably figured not that many people know who he is. As opposed to a Jeff Hardy. This card, yeah, it turned angle on it and some others staying in Hogan's heart. Staying at the time. And so I think TNA was like, we want to make sure the crowd hates you. So we're going to send you out there to cut this promo that never hit an air wave, never anything. And he was so funny and got over that people were cheering him during the match with Jeff Hardy. Now Jeff Hardy still got more cheers. Of course. He's still better than 2010. And that's crazy. That's 15 years ago. And as opposed to even Jeff Hardy now. So, yeah, it was kind of crazy.

9:09But yeah, I went to a battle for glory. And then I want to say, battle for glory is also what I saw in 2014, visiting Patrick O'Dowd in Boston. It was in the, it was in the, it was in the outer slam of the first. I can't remember, but it was one of the TNA to major major events. So you are an undercover TNA fan, huh? That's what it is. I covered TNA for like a year at 401Media. Larry couldn't do the weekly coverage. And so I was covering impact on a weekly basis. I covered one paper view. And, and it gave me covering live TV. I don't want to say it's easy because it's not easy. But it's easy. And so, it's like, there's commercials. That yes. So you get breaks. Or the paper view, there's no commercials. And so you're like, slow down. Slow the hell down. I need to breathe for a minute. A lot of the time there's a video package though. So at least you can pay sit that way. Or you're just like, how they're going to talk for five minutes about the next match. So maybe that's why like people complain about commercials and promos and TV wrestling.

10:11As someone who at least recapped it for a short period of time than most. I appreciate it. Backstab for a moment. Commercials because it was like, I don't have to. And I was never a good play by play recap or anyway. But same. Which that's why we have Mitchell on the site because Mitchell's play by play is insane. He did. He gives you the story. He gives you the most. He's just. Yeah. He is he is trying. He is transcribing the show in a way that if you didn't see it, you could probably take a Stephen Mitchell report. Feed it into an AI and AI could spit out the audio of the broadcast of the show based on what Mitchell. Am I trying to say? I just see what it does. So we have some things we're going to talk about on this program on a regular basis and then things that were going to change. That might change over time. But we've got some lead stories we'll talk about. We've got some set things we're going to cover every single week to bring some stuff to the forefront that maybe doesn't always get that attention. 11:17Hopefully you could be listening to it one ever. That's the magic podcast. That's true. We're just coming off of Monday night Raw in a match that was set up with an entire tournament. Mostly on Raw, one match on on Triple A. But it was to determine the challenger for Roman Reigns World Heavyweight Championship when Raw went to Mexico City. And of course that tournament was won by Penta. By the way, just a little aside, pay very close attention whenever WWE runs a tournament or qualifying matches. Almost always whoever wins a qualifying match on the very first episode where they're starting that ends up winning the tournament. It's really like like like Bronbbreaker and Soul Rugo were the first two to qualify for money in the bank last week. That this pass robber the robber for if they both win like you know Greg's on something. So it's a little bit of a pevloving thing is what you're saying. I wonder if it's almost like we're putting this together. We know these guys are going to win. Let's just get this piece into the puzzle now and filter out the rest later.

12:19Because sure enough that very first tournament match was Penta. And he won that and qualified in advance from there. Of course he won the tournament. But Stevie Wonder could see that it was going to be Penta and Phoenix in the tournament. Like everyone knew that you were because they would be stupid not to be honest. Great. Then Penta of course challenge Roman Reigns at the Mexico City Raw. I don't think anybody truly believed Penta was going to win that match. I don't know had we done this podcast last week. Andrew what percentage chance would you have given that Penta was going to win in the season. I think you're right. I would have personally only given like 10% because it's too early to take it off for Roman. Penta's money anyway with without belts. It doesn't matter. He's the most overlood store after Rey Mysterio right now that under the WWE umbrella. Sure is. You don't need him to win. He just has to look good and boy did he look good.

13:21He looked amazing. I mean the match was phenomenal. We're going to talk about that here in a moment. It's funny because I didn't think he was going to win and I probably would have given him a hopeful 30% chance of winning. It's higher than I was giving him so there's that. But I think some of that was blind hope because I'm not going to lie. I wanted him to win. I truly wanted him to win. And as I'm watching Raw on Monday on delay. But this is how big it was. I managed to stay off social media and it was completely spoiler free. Wow. I didn't know anything was going to happen. I mean usually I'll see things. But when I started I was just like I'm not touching Instagram. I'm not touching Twitter. I'm not touching nothing. I even had to alter what things that I was working on for the website. See stuff. Thanks. Before it was too late. So I was like trying to work on Izzy W stuff while I was watching Raw so that I didn't get spoiled. What happened? Because if Penta did win I didn't want to know before. True. I wanted to see it when it happened. Because as the show was going on I'm like in my head what I kept saying was they should do it.

14:27Like they should do it. They should give him. And when I watched backlash in Puerto Rico a couple years ago I remember thinking I know really Ripley just won the women's title but they should let Zelina Vega win it here. Like just for that moment for the crowd for the fans. Because it's it's if Penta won they might still be celebrating. But they did a lot though for Mexico City like Stephanie Vacaer got a house show title change which that doesn't happen. But that was actually I mean that was her home. But you know what I it's still a house show so nobody really expected that. Then you had Dom and and a Grande and you know you had all the the situation with the tag titles with the what the Wagner's the Wagner kids right. Yeah. Plus they gave. They gave Mexico City the same as any world title in on Friday on statu. That was that was a lot of title flips over the course of like five days. You know El Grande Americano like they didn't like if they did it basically had

15:30Penta beat Roman it would have like completed the sweep essentially. Like it would have been a Mexico City sweep with this major title changes on every single show in Mexico City. That would have been a hell of a title for a show though if it was that Mexico City sweep Mexico City sweep. But they didn't they didn't and of course Penta Penta did lose to Roman Reigns. Putting a hell of a show and now let me ask you. Because the big criticism you and you know the big criticism coming out of the match was the perceived no sell it. And of course because wrestling is still tribalism will never die in pro wrestling. We are still fighting between a W fans and W fans. And so every critic who every a W fan who has seen W to be fans is not just W fans, but they've seen people criticize the no selling in a W immediately pointed to this match. And the perceived no selling and I used that purpose of the perceived no selling. Specifically the what I thought was brilliant first of all because Roman went for the spear and he avoids it and then.

16:35You know ducking out of the way hit some with you know he hits them with the Mexican destroyer. Roman sells to the corner then comes out and hits the spear which of course then. You see how you just described it though if this was play by player color commentary. He got hit with the destroyer and had to sell to the corner and then recover to hit the spear to then have everybody down kind of moment. So if he has to sell to the corner given how you just you know one wonderfully painted the picture. How is that a no sell if he's selling to the corner. Exactly. Yeah. Yeah. It's 150% agree with you. It is not the same as a w where someone hits a destroyer next guy gets up hits 14 super kicks as if the destroyer never happened. Guy you hit 14 super kicks hits a tornado dbt dbt or dbt four dives out of the ring and then everybody has to stand off in the crowd claps. That's not what happened here.

17:36I agree because the A W modern style is take a move, kip up no sell it hook up. When there's no reason to do it there was recently there was that whole maybe it was like a year ago now but recent enough like that young buck spot where they took this big ladder move and then they jump right back up to hit whatever melt your driver or whatever the hell they were doing. It's like that's no selling for no reason. It's one thing if you're Hulk Hogan with the stars. If you're Hulk Hogan and you kick out of like the rock bottom like WrestleMania 18 and then you'll hook up to like a kind of like no sell the pain. That's different that's ingrained in the character. Like even Japanese stuff like Tomi Hiro is he would let the stone pit bull little little brick house guy you probably know who he is. But like he'd pop up once in a while and no sell a move but then instantly get hit with something else and be like knock the fuck out. So it was more of a gimmick spot where he'd be like nope that didn't hurt until it did hurt and then he would get again. So like that's part of the gimmick.

18:36They don't have a gimmick when they know sell they just know sell that feel like no feeling a W took fighting spirit and then took the point out of it. Everybody does that in the West and it's ridiculous and it's they don't understand what fighting spirit. We're going to honor you to do it all time but it made sense and you can tell when fighting spirit makes sense because it gets a reaction. Bring of honor also had a lot of crossover with dragon gate Noah and new Japan for like 10 years of their prior to Tony Khan existence. So that made sense that it was ingrained in the minutia of what ROH was to have like the honor the respect and the the Bushito Japanese mentality because that was always something that they played around with. Yeah, I agree 100% and that's to me it was more of a fighting spirit and William regal then puts out a tweet praising what how Roman reigns sells. Oh yeah, and you go back and watch that match watch what Roman reigns does after he kicks out of a move like when he kicked out of the destroyer off the middle row that that pentahit Roman reigns kicks out of that move but that he's physically folded over and like he's dead.

19:47And it's just every ounce that he had his body to kick out of that move. Speaking of folded in half when he gets hit with the pentah driver and the legs over his arm and everything he kind of barely has to get out his face shows the exhaustion and the shock of like oh fuck I almost just lost. What's funny about that pentah driver and given you know how often Roman wrestlers or doesn't wrestle whatever that face expression might have been. It might have been an easy sell for him because it's because if you look at a pentah driver like I don't know there's a good way to take that like because you folded up in half and you're lining on the back of your head and your neck like he took it as well as he could it's most like a folded back bump kind of like a jackknife I guess yeah yeah so it was it was all well done like it was very very good. I thought the mattress fantastic they treated it like a WrestleMania main event yes pentah coming out in the garbage Roman coming out being Roman and and they did it did it very well.

20:49The news coming out of the report and the news comes from literally re online not from your typical new sources is that now. Now WBC's pentah as like a money drawing top love. I feel like they always did but this was the I'll say the feather in the cap you know because you saw what he did with Gable that his whole intercontinental run like and this is even you know before Chad's like I don't know whatever redemption tour what his first match when it was with technically Chad Gable and it was just a great match that they wrestled back and forth and the crowd was behind him then and he showed that he could. And he showed that he could wrestle a more psychological slower style than what we were accustomed to and a W and TNA and previous to W. We so he's been money almost since they won. And there's been money since the day I saw the lute general like and that was my first exposure to that's a good point that's a good point I mean he carried that program him in vampiro.

21:56Yes for the longest time carried that program I remember he was in TNA he was TNA world champion and when they went to a W. Well and even when they did when they did the first all in before a W existed like the way that the card was being released you could tell they were going to end up with pentah and Keny omega and and so it was like that was a hell of it like it was almost like an afterthought of a match because of everything else they were doing but I'm like as omega a mega match now we spent too long fighting between hangman paid. And hangman paid to Joey Ryan and a pair of boots to you really give some of these matches of the focus that they should have had but that's a conversation for six years ago seven years ago now was seven years ago are all and took place it's crazy but but Or was it 2018 that all happened. Wait it wasn't all out 18 and all in was 19. Well the first one was all in the first ever the Cody Rhodes. Nick Aldis young Bucks Ray Mysterio like the first independent super show the ROH one yeah the ROH one which was an ROH show but no one wants to admit that.

23:05Even though our which owned the rights to it which is a big part of why Tony Tony Connoons it on that so it's okay. Exactly that's a big part of why he probably overpaid for any water. It's also why I get the mixed up between the all out the all in the whole all it gets the same show they just had to change it because our way choned it and so they had to change it now they own a bowl so and then all and became their WrestleMania anyway so it all works out but but even then like you saw the star that pen to was I thought he was wasted in a W like I was when it came when we were thinking about okay who's a W's first world champion to be my first suggestion was pent up really. The pent up should be your first one. Yes I agree with Jericho because like they were getting TV he's the only household name they really had like oh yeah you're 100% right like you're Mox it wasn't there yet Jericho was was the right decision in the end now it was at the time but in the end I think it was and that's kind of where I'm at now with Roman winning and being Pente as much as I wanted Pente to win I was like they'll do it have some balls whatever but you got a

24:06thing okay if Oba Femi is going to be the guy to take the title off of Roman sure you can't randomly have Pente do it. It's the great months before or whatever like it just even if Roman were to win it back at money in the bank which is what in my brain what you would do and I also thought there would be some outside interference of like the 946 who weren't there and the bloodline and all that that could then lead to Pente as victory like I didn't think it was going to be fully clean but it would be celebrated and they would love it anyway. It's a luchus city like there's interference everywhere I mean look what I'm correct in both of them are kind of I mean in CMLL and triple A they have constant you know a history of overdoing it like even the Grande Americano you know face off mirror match like you had the Creed brothers you had Rojo and Bravo you had someone's girlfriend you had Scarlett Pimpernela yeah like you had everything like that was yeah it was it was and then you even in in over on Americanos 1 over Dominic Mysterio I mean you had JD McDonough you had Liv Morgan come out you had Rock L.

25:11Rodriguez you had every so that's very luch of the owns it is it is very luchus so they would have been fine if there was any interference in Pente one but again if the goal is to get to Oba you're not going to make Roman looks to lose before then and then cheap and quote unquote cheap and buy Oba at some point it's the joke from a better decade ago make Roman look strong yeah but like it's not because Roman sucks now it's just because he's the champ and you want to you want Oba's win to mean more when he takes it off of Rome you make your champion look strong it's not even make Roman look strong right you make your champion look but because it's Roman people are going to dismiss it I let like you know what Conrad Thompson said a month or so ago now he was wrong but he would I agree that's why I just I just decided to drop that in the bucket that's not I remember where those comments came out and Pat and I talked about I don't know if we put it on the podcast or not but we just like this is like Conor and he's a let go like it's been proven now that Romans the draw like yeah yeah that was just a bad thing to be you want Cody to be the guy

26:14and he is also the guy but he's also the stale guy right now yeah he'll be fine I didn't say you won't be fine I just say he's stale right now you can be stale right now when fine later true very true I mean it happens at right they need to give Cody more time off he should have been gone for more than just one or two weeks like he agreed he needs to have the months off that a lot of other people get but Cody doesn't want to do now so we get it we get why pent up be or pental lost at Roman Reigns we get all that we talked about it a little bit and over the weekend we also had El Grande Maricano win the triple A mega championship from Dominic Mysterio and kind of really complete the build of El Grande Maricano I mean it's just crazy that he was just basically the filling because Gabel got hurt yeah it's also then they bought triple A and then he's just become a mega star it's poetic in a sense too because he helped Dom win it the last last year's

27:17triple mania because it was you know all all of the the judgment day and when Maricano was still kind of like filling in for Gabel so he was still kind of a heel and an asshole and that it's weird to think one year he's part of the shithead team and then now he's like the most beloved like luchador who's not really a luchador but kind of a luchador in a long time I'm not going to say he's santo level or mystical level because that that's a different thing but like right for right now there aren't many hotter than him they love that guy and that's the thing like they love that guy I like and so much they like they brought him in even though he's a German guy pretending to be American pretending to be Mexican they he's one of them like he's like he's one of us like they just completely acknowledged and embraced his gimmick and that's kind that's cool honestly and that was the hilarity of one of the criticisms of raw was that all the Mexicans lost right because dragon lane lost Chad Gabel dominant Mysterio and Liv Morgan lost El Grande Maricano

28:20and stuff he but cared of course you know work over regas lost in the triple threat qualifying match and then of course penta penta lost but like it's not about the hometown here like a grande america of people but he's German I'm like well he's literally their champion yes he's literally the champion of the people in Mexico like he walks out and he kisses children on the forehead like he is the champion of the people and he speaks Spanish like the first the first time I saw this which it's it's a slightly dated reference but it kind of age as well I don't know if you saw the episode don't know how much you care about south park but if you ever saw the episode where butters accidentally went to Mexico when they were pretending to be like the the border patrol versus the Mexicans but butters got stuck in actual Mexico and then the Mexicans embraced him so he became Montaquilla which means butters in Spanish okay but like and then he became like the the fucking deity of the people and like people would cheer every time you raised his hands and it was like this whole big like nostalgic kind of like everybody would rally behind butters

29:25and that's exactly how I fell about Pfizer honestly it's funny the american or fake american going to to Mexico would be accepted by the people is such an easy story to tell like you know I love the oceans trilogies yes and oceans 13 the Virgil and and the Turk brothers they are the most loyal is Virgil and Turk Maloy they go to Mexico because they want to compromise the dice and the dice or manufacture in Mexico they want to compromise the dice for the casino and and Virgil goes over first and and then he's and it's taking longer than expected it's taking longer than expected because the working conditions are terrible he starts lobbying to fix the working conditions and his brother has to go down and they're like fighting the the power and they get them they're more money and they get them everything and then they get the of course they get the compromise dice but it's just like they just get swept up into the culture and that's just what seems to happen everywhere so that's also what seemed to happen with a grand americano and and you know and good on out they realize they

30:30had something they're old with it and now he's easily one of the biggest stars in football like and the fans accepted it that's that's what's really important the fans accepted it and Chad Gable yes he'd be dragon Lee but Chad Gable especially but came a hero after the the the mask versus mask match yes you know the posture he's not mexikid but it's not like mexican fans would be upset if Chad won because he's respected now like that he literally he earned the respect I will come back here as a champion and then he did so yeah it's it's if people complain about storytelling or whatever but like that started in May he said I wouldn't come back here the grade that he did like and they probably had an idea they were gonna do that so it's insane but I'm interested to see how much El Grande americano we see on WWE television because it's been up and down for him on WWE

31:30television with everything but now that he's the champion of their newest acquisition 51% ownership was still with him and triple AMega champion will we see more of El Grande americano on WWE TV then we have been in recent months as long as we see him consistently portrayed between the brands because we talked about a little over the weeks but like Dominic's portrayal on raw and in AAA was like whiplash it was like night and day he was a dork job and out to Dan Howeson and you know on WWE main roster stuff and then he's supposed to be the mega champion in triple A and people respected and he's got the mysterious lineage and he's like all that but like I can't I can't really subvert my expectations from episode to episode when it's supposed to be a continuous storyline because it's the same damn person it's not like one time it's not like
