Today on His light, Your Path, Pastor Rodholler Sr. brings us a devotional titled, Blessed. Have you ever wondered what is truly means to be blessed? Is happiness found in following the ways of the world? Or is there a better path? In this devotional, Pastor Holler will explore how we can find true happiness according to God's Word. Psalm Chapter 1 Blessed is the man that walk at naught in the council of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor siteth in the seat of the squornful. The word blessed is throughout the Psalms. The book of Psalms opens with the word blessed, and it is throughout the Psalms. Blessed means happy. So it is that the first chapter in the Psalms must be considered for it is the gateway to God's words for being blessed or happy. Verse 1 is simple and
very profound. Blessed is the man that walk at naught in the council of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor siteth in the seat of the squornful. Let us note some key truths in this verse. First, blessed is the man. This prepares us for instructions to be blessed. God wants people to be blessed. So he sets forth these truths so that happiness or blessings can be found. As we will see, happiness is not in the way of the world, but rather in a life lived for God. Therefore we read, blessed is the man that walk at naught in the council of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor siteth in the seat of the squornful. Second, walking in the way of the council of the ungodly is not the
path to the blessed life. The world does not guide a person to godliness, where blessedness is found. Walking implies our daily living. Believers are to walk in the truths of God's word. For that is truly the lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Third, to be blessed, a man is not to stand in the way of sinners. The way, or lifestyle of sinners, is not for a godly man, and it surely does not result in being blessed. The believer is not to be found standing in the way of sinners. Daily, believers will interact with sinners, but they are not to stand among them. This implies that a believer is to be careful to not stand or remain in the way of sinners if they expect to be blessed. Fourth, neither will blessedness be
found by one who siteth in the seat of the squornful. Happiness is not found in the company of squornful people. Squornful people are mockers. Their conversation tears down people. They look to mock or be little others, which is not the way of blessedness. Therefore, we are not to be sitting with squarners. We have no business to be involved with this sort of people. Therefore, we have considered walks not, stands not, and now we have sits not in the seat of the squornful. These three postures are those of a person's daily life. We walk, we stand, and we sit as we are awake. Everyday believers are in each of these three postures, and therein we are not to be in those postures with the ungodly. A final thought, the passage says
to avoid the ungodly, the sinners, and the squornful. Sadly, there are some of God's people who are in that category of people to avoid. Let us be careful who we run with so that we can find and enjoy the blessedness from God. That was Pastor Holler's devotional title, blessed. As we heard today, Psalm chapter 1 shows us the true path to being blessed, not by following the world's advice or joining in with those who mock or tear others down, but by seeking God's ways in all we do. Remember, God wants each of us to have a truly blessed life. Be sure to tune in tomorrow for another devotional from Pastor Holler here on his light, your path.
