Certainly not the first game. And shooting down the people who think blouse sucks, it's funny. Over the last 24 hours, I've gone through this a little bit with Colt. I have seen a lot of the players on the radio show with my producer, Max. And I can go through it with you as well. I have gotten some things from people that say there's a real negative, angsty feeling

3:03about the team after one game. And I personally haven't sensed that. Now, this guy is saying it too. I had an email or yesterday that basically said the same thing that, you know, why would people get so worked up? They played well defensively. They jaden lit it up in the fourth quarter against a great defense and yada yada yada. And it's it's like people must be hearing from other people. Most of the people, the majority of the people that I've interacted with since Sunday night were much more encouraged than discouraged. What were you and then what have you heard? Now, I don't know how you could be anything but encouraged even after a loss, like what we saw from the commanders on Sunday. They looked like they belonged on the field with the Eagles.

4:06And there was a great fear that they weren't going to look that way. Well, you had that fear? Well, I wasn't the only one. No. You weren't the only one. A lot of people had doom and gloom over the summer football stuff. Yes. And I think that they showed you, particularly defensively, there had to be so much to like on defense with the front seven, at least, with the speed, with the tackling, with the pressures that they put on the Philadelphia backfield. I mean, you know, there was just, you had to be pinching yourself to watch that Washington defense, haven't seen that in years. And offensively, it was frustrating. But you have to remember, you're playing a big fan geodefense, maybe the top ranked defense in the league last year. Certainly, one of the better defenses your team is going to face this year.

5:08Of course, yards are going to be hard to come by. You know, what did you expect? Again, with a quarterback with a new rookie offensive coordinator, we saw virtually no preseason game action. What I mean, I thought that they acquitted themselves well in spite of all that. And then, like you said, came on in the fourth quarter to have a very impressive game quarter from Jayden Daniels, 9 of 11 for 100 yards and two touchdowns. Again, except for the loss. I don't see how, oh, not except for the loss, the loss. I mean, you know, there's, I just don't know how you could not feel better about this team this week than you did the week before. Okay. If you're a reasonable person, now let me say that the two point play call overshadows

6:11a lot. Yeah, you wrote about it in people. Yeah, it's in people guts. It's the last thing they remember. It doesn't matter if it was one minuscule part of the game. That has left the bad taste. And it seems to have overshadowed a lot of other things to be positive about. Well, David Blow called the picket fence play didn't give the ball to Jimmy Chitwood. Tell me wrote that in his column today. And you and I are in agreement on that. Now, let me just on your takeaway. I don't think you're trying to do this. I don't think you are. But I thought for a moment that you were trying to set me up like you were trying to get me to say, oh my God, I'm so encouraged. There's so many. I mean, how about that game? And I said to you last week and I've said throughout the summer, I am not going to overreact

7:16one way or the other after one game. It's always a head fake and it takes a few games of the regular season to kind of figure out what your team actually is. But I don't think you are doing that for that purpose. I will say this that while I absolutely don't feel that much differently about this team, there's still to me a major question mark in a lot of different areas that was never going to get answered over the summer and can only get answered in real games. But I'm still where I was before the game, but I'll just give you one small exception. Where I was before the opener was, look, there are only two things about this team that I feel somewhat sure about. Like a higher level of confidence than anything else. And that is, if Jaden Daniels is healthy and plays this year, the team is going to have a good chance to win more games than it loses.

8:18And then number two, you know, this isn't tongue in cheek. And it was the same thing I said last year, but I felt even stronger, more strongly about it this year is that the defense cannot be anywhere near as bad as it was last year. And so the one thing that I would just say that again, I'm not going to get carried away because remember, they were playing a team that had a new offensive coordinator, a new offensive scheme, playing without their second or third best player offensively that's been on that team for several years in AJ Brown. So they were trying to figure it out. And those guys didn't play in preseason either. But I did feel like, I did feel like that my belief that the defense can't be as bad as it was last year got, you know, some support from the way it played on Sunday, like the players are faster. They are being coached in a much more aggressive way.

9:23And we'll see what happens Sunday because they're going to play an offense that is veteran, is used to the system that they've been playing does have overall better offensive players in Dallas. It may be a much bigger challenge and we may feel differently a week from today. But I did, I, I, it was exciting to watch them defensively Sunday. Like it was so much more watchable. And part of it is I am comparing it to our team in recent years. And literally you and I could have gone out there and probably played better than the team did last year on defense. But that's the one thing that I would allow myself after one game to feel like, okay, that looked different and it feels like it could continue to look different as the season goes on. But who knows? Because last year they looked good on defense in the open or two against the giants.

10:27And it turned out to be a disaster. Well, they were healthy in the open. Well, but they were, they were healthy in week two and got, you know, run out of the building by Green Bay, Michael Penex and, and Geno Smith had their best games of the year in weeks three and four against the defense. So yeah, but I, that, that part, like I can't wait to see the defense Sunday again against Dallas. God, I hope I'm not let down by, yeah, week one just, you know, is a major, major head fake or just by the fact that Dallas is really good on offense, really good, really experienced. This isn't a new system for them. And so it's going to be a different test for the defense on Sunday than this past Sunday was. Although I will say, I thought Jalen Hertz was absolutely spectacular in the game. I thought Dallas Goddard was really, really good in the game. Land in Dickerson, by the way, is on injured reserve.

11:28I saw that right after the radio show today, he's putting himself on injured reserve and he did struggle in the game. So they weren't necessarily healthy up front. Philadelphia wasn't so, but yeah, I mean, hey, it was a loss though. I mean, let's not forget like they're not in this for moral victories. I know. And I know for the people that were expecting Jaden to be sack 10 times and for them to be an absolute disaster on defense with the corners. By the way, Mikey Sanrestil was a disaster on Sunday. The game he played on Sunday, hopefully it'll improve. But so there, there's some people that said, all right, it's better than it was, but I, that's what I heard mostly. I heard mostly, hey man, this looked, this didn't look terrible. Maybe the doom and gloom of the summer really created the environment for people to feel better about it.

12:29But it's interesting that I've heard from a lot of e-mailers and even from my producer this morning that there are a lot of people that were kind of negative about the game. See, you're still, you're missing the point that I made. That negativity is, I probably driven in large part by the way the game, by the last play that Washington had. I think that dwarfs almost everything else. It shouldn't, but it does. I think that David ploughed two point conversion call, the shovel pass, overshadows all the positives that you could come out of from that game for a lot of people. It was not, you didn't like the call, I didn't like the call. I'm not sure Quinn necessarily loved the call. Who knows? I mean, I went through this a lot, share with everybody kind of the gist of your column.

13:32Because it was about that point conversion. Yeah, I mean, basically, I took the heart with Tom Brady said after the game in a situation like that, think players, not play. He would have preferred to see Jayden in a run pass option with the ball in his hand with a chance to make the most out of his weapons available to him. If you're going to go down, go down with your best. The basically shovel pass that they did took the ball out of his hand. That's what I compared it to Norman Dale in Hoosiers when they've got the game tied with seconds left. In the huddle, he calls the picket fence play for Merle. Take the shot and Jimmy to be a decoy. And Jimmy looks at him and says, I'll make it. You know, that's it in a way. That's what it was.

14:32Well, the whole huddle, first of all, is looking around and looking at the coach and then looking at Jimmy and then Jimmy sees it and just said, I'll make it. And then Norman Dale gets it together, aka Gene Hackman in real life. Gets it together and says, all right, get the ball to Jimmy. Go win the game. Yes. And I think in that case, it's not hard to figure out what you want to do, especially with the role that Jayden Daniels is on, especially how well he played in that quarter. He had to be feeling it. He had to be feeling confident and feeling really good about it. So that's all. And it's not just that. It's like, I know it was one of the options. The other option was to pass to the back at a backfield. But the fact that that option was presented was so frustrating because it also relied on

15:36one of the weaker links of this offense. And that's the center. They were relying on Nick Allegretti to make a play, a guy who missed the time in training camp, who was a little shaky on Sunday. And it's far from your best offensive lineman. And you needed him to make a play. And he wasn't up to the task. All the things to put the game on the line for, you put the game on the line on Nick Allegretti shoulders. That's the main, that's not that unaware of your situation. Yeah. I don't disagree. I mean, I think the play calling, questioning sometimes is nuts the way they, when they hear it, they roll their eyes and they're like, you have no idea what you're talking about.

16:37But I agreed with Brady. And I agree with what you said. Now, you typically will go into a game with like two to three two point plays that you've practiced all week. I still don't have an answer as to whether or not. Chigakon Quo was actually the guy that was supposed to be the recipient of the shovel pass. It wouldn't have mattered because a Jomo made an absolute spectacular play defensively. And Quin said that. Quin gay. And I was, I was glad to hear that because when I watch, when I watch this play over and over again, it's like, you got to give this guy some credit. Like that is a detackle spinning into a play that he read. It's an incredibly athletic play. But to your point, it's not just the fact that it's your, I mean, look, Cosmi leading the way is actually a strength on your team.

17:38But the Allegrette piece, but it's also going into the heart and the teeth of that defense. But at the same time, they were rolling and they had Philadelphia reeling over those final two drives. I don't know. I would have preferred Jaden and Antonio Williams and Stefan Diggs and Terry McClaurnd to be the primary options on the play. However, you would have drawn up the plates. It's interesting about two point plays, man, especially against really, really good defensive teams. Over the years, like it depends. If you don't have, if you feel you're in a mismatch on a really condensed field, one play from that two yard line, you see a lot of trick plays in that situation. I mean, the Philly special from the Super Bowl, back in the day. You see teams try to do things that are actually out of character. Shovel pitches are not out of character or unusual plays in the red zone.

18:42Ever. I just wouldn't have had John Bates as a big part of the final play. To your point, Nick Allegretti, but even more so into the teeth of that defense because a Jomo is the third best of that group up front. He's still exceptionally good. Like he's... I know that. But what whiteboard at headquarters, does anyone think Nick Allegretti wins that battle? Well, they were very high on Nick Allegretti. They still are. I mean, Nick Allegretti, we've nuts. Again, I don't want to go back and rehash the summer. How would you know what Nick Allegretti is? He's never played center. He played one game last year in his entire career at the end of the season. They're confident in Nick Allegretti. That's why they went with Nick Allegretti instead of Tyler Biotish. To say that, why would they ever in any world?

19:44Because they think Nick Allegretti is capable. I don't have enough information to say he isn't. I didn't think he played particularly well in his first game as a starting center, but he was up against Philadelphia. That's as good a... That's my point. Yeah. You know? Well, why would you think that this is the time he's going to win that battle? Well, it's more... He said they went right into the teeth. Yeah, it's more about that. It's more about the teeth of that defense. And by the way, Jordan Davis wasn't even on the field. It was Carter and Adjomo, and then they had five DBs on the field. They were actually nickel. But yeah, look, I mean, this is what I love about the regular season when it begins and you're part of the discussion of a team that everybody's focused on. You could do an hour on just one play, you know? This is what's great about once the games begin is because...

20:48And by the way, I don't think that was the only play. I was very, very upset about the 3rd and 17 touchdown in the first half where the defense had seven people at the line of scrimmage pre-snap. I thought that that was in Quinn basically set it in his press or yesterday that they probably should have aligned differently, meaning almost meaning a different call. I mean, you should have no less than seven guys waiting at the goal line saying, yeah, you're going to have to throw this one underneath and then we'll tackle you and you'll kick a field goal. But I love the fact that we could spend legitimately three hours on a radio show taking calls on one or two plays in a game. That's really what... My whole column... My whole column was about one play. Yeah. I know. No, and I wasn't the only one. There were a lot of stories that just concentrated on that single play. Yeah.

21:48I mean, to your point, it was the last offensive snap of the game for Washington. It was the last time we saw him on the field offensively after the missed on-side kick. It was Nees game over and people shaking hands and it really did feel anti-climactic because it was two unbelievable drives. Philadelphia answered the first one and you know what? Maybe they would have answered this one had they tied the game. They had a minute left. So maybe they go down and we're... Yeah, maybe we're talking about... I don't like that. Yeah, maybe we're talking about another error by Mikey Sanrestil that gave him field goal range. Because anything a minute left would have been plenty of time and they had time outs left as well to get into field goal range. What also could have happened was Washington could have gotten their fifth, three and out of the game and Philly Pundit would have to punt it and maybe Drew Stevens is kicking a field goal to win the game.

22:48Who knows? But yeah, that play was certainly a dud for sure. And I know I've had many people say to me, Jaden, you say that Jaden did what he was supposed to do. I thought he was Superman. Yeah, if he had put on the cape and said, I don't like the play that got called either and I don't like giving it to baits, I'm going to try to beat Hunt on the outside, throw it to white or run it in myself. You know, I will tell you this, if he had thrown it to white, there was a chance that Chris Paul was downfield illegally, depending on how quickly the ball would have gotten out. So there was that too that could have really hurt. But yeah, I, this wasn't really a hard one. No, but I don't know one person that said that was an exceptional call. I've heard people say and it's not. I stepped the coach. Yeah, well, I've heard people say it was a good play.

23:50It's not unfair to say it's a good play and that it works so long and that it was really executed. Yes, but even all good plays in his playbook. Yeah, that's why they're in the playbook. The question is, was there a better play in the moment? And I think I mean, I mean, for him saying, you know, it was a good play. Of course, that's what they called. Yeah, of course, they thought it was a good play. What's your goal? Play your good play. I would have said, what's your other good play? Tell me about the other good play that you have that maybe didn't get called. Yeah. Now, I don't want to get into the Dallas game yet because that'll be for Thursday. Okay. Oh, I can hear it coming out. It's must win. Well, I mean, it'd be nice if they win. And I think they're going to have to think they've got to challenge defensively even

24:50until we just padded them on the back. But I'm not going to get into that. I think the offensive line is paper thin. Paper thin. I think that you are very close at any time to have and Jane run in for her life. I mean, I think it didn't happen Sunday. That Brandon, no, it didn't happen Sunday against the defense. That doesn't, that does not blitz. That think that they're all, like they're foreign front and put enough pressure. They blitzed a couple times and actually, but I think, I haven't seen the numbers. But the touchdown pass to digs who was on the blitz was against the blitz. But I just think that that their paper thin, I think Coleman is really shaky. I mean, people talked about the illegal motion play that wasn't called on the Eagles.

25:52You know, you could call Fall Start on Brandon Coleman, 75% of the time. You know? Really? Chris Paul, I think they are paper thin. And that's very worrisome. I don't have an opinion on the offensive line yet. I need to see more of it. I thought it was a good day for the offensive line, but for the most part in pass protection, more so than in the run game. But again, really good defense, really good defensive coordinator, first game with your own offensive coordinator and scheme, first game playing together, you know, at all. I need more games. I do think that Sam Cosmese is a very, very good interior offensive guard. I think that Connerley Jr. really came on at the end of last year in particular. But yeah, I don't know yet.

26:54I mean, now, let me just say the depth, that's an easy conversation at this point. They don't appear to have much depth and much room for error along the offensive line. They've got Wiley, he's a veteran. They got the rookie Galbin, you know, as the backup center and they got the guy to know it to Gaia or to Gaia who they, you know, no one had heard of before really camp started. And that's it. Now, let's see if they bring back DJ Humphries this week, the veteran who, you know, they tend not to keep those veterans that they have to lock in for a year salary-wise if they don't think they're going to need them. So they bring them back sometimes before week two. But yeah, I would agree that the offensive line's depth is a concern, not a question mark but a concern. As far as the starters go, look, it's not as good as it would have been with Tuncel, clearly. Yeah, there is, like I wrote in my pre-season preview column, there was life before Lyre

27:57and Me Tuncel got here. They did pretty well in 2024 without him. Again, not necessarily facing the same challenges that they'll face this year, but still, my point being, I didn't believe the season ended when he went down. And I don't want to feel like I don't think I'm overreacting. I just got the sense that the right kind of pressure and that offensive line is going to be the page one story the following Monday in NFL circles. Look, past Rush Pressure is a big deal period, whether you're going up against a good offensive line, a mediocre offensive line or a bad one. If you get consistent, heavy past Rush on any quarterback, it's likely going to be the headline or certainly close to a headline the following day.

29:00You've got a game plan around that. If you are concerned against a certain opponent about holding up in protection, you're going to probably see a lot more of Rashad White in the backfield than Bill Croskey-Marit, which we did see a lot of Rashad White in the backfield. You're going to see tight ends chipping. You're going to see Max Protect if you're trying to get a pure dropback. You're going to throw more quick game. You're going to throw more bubbles. You're going to try to run the football more. One of the things that maybe I didn't emphasize enough in the Sunday recap is I do really feel even more so after the fact that there was a lot of patience shown by David Blow. The quarterback, Jaden Daniels, when you're going against that two man high, you've got to be able to run the football.

30:00That's what you want to do. You want to make one of those safeties come up to the line of scrimmage so you can get some things behind that second level. They did try to run the football. They stuck with it. Look, on that final drive, I was a little bit more critical yesterday of the final drive and the lack of urgency because you're really needed to score before the two minute warning time. When people talk about an eight point deficit being a one score game, it's just not true because more time than not. It's a two score game because again, for those that didn't hear it, the two point conversion success percentage is less than 50 percent in the history of the two pointer. That means even in the high forties last year, it's less than 50-50. The two point play when I was growing up, actually they didn't have it for a long time, but

31:05it took a while for teams to basically go along with the idea of going to two point play as opposed to the guaranteed one point that you could get. You're right. It's not an automatic thing and I don't know why people think it is. But I guess what I was driving at was that in that final drive, they probably should have been more urgent and they ran K-Tron Allen three or four times on that final drive. They stuck with the run. I thought you have to do that against teams like Philadelphia. First of all, you can't be in bad down in distances and secondly, if they're going to play that too high safety, you've got to try to run the football against it. I thought that overall the two point play call and then the third and 17 defensive call were the two worst moments play calling in the game so that each had one, Toronto Jones

32:11and David Blow, but overall for a first game, I think it was pretty good for the most part. Yeah. Yeah. I do. What do you read into K-Tron Allen, the fat man getting those carries? Well, once Bill put the ball on the ground, he didn't come back into the game. Yeah. He literally almost lost the game on one play. Jalen Carter punched it out, but they've got to have ball security with him. He fumbled last year, remember, a few times. We've had that with backs and over the last seven, six, seven years. Antonio Gibson had that problem, remember early on. I thought K-Tron Allen looked good. He got four carries, 16 yards, four yards per carry, he had a good job. I thought Kroski Merritt had a couple of decent runs. I also thought after I watched it, he missed a couple of things. I thought Rashad White looked slower than he didn't Tampa. That was a bit disappointing because you need on check downs or just passes to a back

33:19out of the backfield. He's got to make that first guy miss. He's got to, it can't be what it was with him, which is two catches for five yards. It's got to be two for ten, two for twelve, where he's doing it on his own. But yeah, I mean, look, it was one game. The opponent's completely different. Now the opponent has something to game plan for in terms of our two coordinators. We've got something to game plan for them with their new defensive coordinator who did not have a good debut. He's a Vic Fangeo disciple, Christian Parker is. He had a terrible debut. Dallas couldn't get off the field at all against the Giants. But Dallas does have good defensive players. There was an expectation that Dallas would be much better defensively. Dallas and Washington are in similar situations. Washington doesn't have the skill position talent that Dallas does on offense. But it was defense that was the problem with them.

34:21Cincinnati was defense. Cincinnati went out and spent big on defense too. They got four takeaways in their opener against Tampa. Washington spent big on their defense and didn't get any takeaways. But the defense did look a lot different than it did last year. But, you know, Quinn and Williams and Kenny Clark, I mean, those are two of the best, you know, detacles in the game playing together. They lost overshoeing, I guess. I've always liked him. So they might be a little bit injured. Malik Hooker got hurt in the game too. We'll see. Big difference always in the NFL between week one and week two. It just, I mean, we see it every single year. So I don't know what to expect Sunday. In terms of whether or not like it's a must win, nothing's a must win at this point. They should be feeling both teams like it's kind of a big deal here because O and two in this division with two division losses and both of them, either one of them,

35:22whoever loses this game has two losses, two division losses to start the season. Because the Cowboys lost to the Giants. So it feels for a week two game like it's pretty important. So and for Washington in particular with Seattle coming in the following week. Now, who knows if Sam Darnold will be there or not, we'll find out probably in the next. I think he's already, I think he's out for four weeks. Is that the latest? I didn't see that. I think so. Let me just double check. That's that's interesting. Yeah, I'm pretty sure they're going to face true lock. Yeah, so like I said, and have said, yeah, you're right. It looks like a four week return to play Mike Garafolo is reporting today. It's a very unique soft tissue injury. His hip joint is unaffected, but Garafolo is saying a week for a return, which means he

36:27would miss next week and we would get drew lock, which, you know, Seattle's a weird team in that the quarterback was a big part of it, but you don't feel like, you know, no Sam Darnold, no chance like you would with Buffalo or Kansas City or Washington or, you know, Cincinnati. They're still really good in a lot of other spots. So we, you know, one at a time, one at a time, Tommy coaching cliche, one, not just one game at a time, one snap at a time. Looking forward to Sunday, they're three and a half point underdogs at my bookie right now in the game Sunday at Dallas. All right, did you have anything else on the game itself? Well, the disappointment, Stefan digs, foolish move, you know, I mean, he should know better, you know, a veteran like that. I mean, he owned up to it after the game.

We'll get to the Monday night football debut for 2026 in a moment. The chief's went over Denver, but you said you had a question for me about, I guess, Terry McClaurne. Yes, the Terry McClaurne took passes and basically took a long time for them to get one to them for 14 yards.

43:45What was the issue with that? Was it just the Eagles? Not letting the commanders throw anything deep to him? Is there a Terry problem? Is there a Terry problem? What's the problem? I know what you're saying. I know what you're saying. I mean, because the coaching staff made a point of saying their goal was minimum 10 target to game. Look, the problem on Sunday was partly that Philadelphia was bracketing him. They were shading in his direction. Terry gets a lot of that. That made it difficult. The team was intent against that too high safety look, Vick Fangio's staple, to try to run the football. Yes, you'd like to get the ball down field, but against too high safety, that's always

44:47difficult. What should be open is something over the middle of the field. They got some of that stuff, especially when we got late into the game. But four targets, two catches for what? 14 yards. They came at the end. One of those catches was a big one, a fourth and two. I think that kind of explains Sunday. You know what I think of Terry McClearn. People always misinterpret this. He's a really good receiver. He is not a force feed, 12, 13, 14, 15 targets a game wide receiver. He just doesn't get open like that. That's not what he does well. He doesn't create great space between him and the defender. It's not that he's a bad route runner. He's a good route runner. He just doesn't watch what the rookie did on Sunday.

45:51Watch what Stefan Diggs does. I mean, massive separation. They were starting to get late in the game. Again, this game Sunday, there was more shading, more bracketing, and more of an attention on Terry as the number one guy they wanted to take away. Of course, he was because it was a rookie receiver and there was a 33 year old veteran receiver on the team who's playing mostly in the slot, although he was playing everywhere. They were all playing everywhere. But I just, I've never understood even when they've said it before, I've not believed that they've actually met what they've said. I don't think that any offensive coordinator that's been here with Terry, okay? Jay Gruden is a play caller, Scott Turner, obviously Cliff King's Barry and now David Blow. I don't think any of them have viewed Terry. It's why there was a long protracted contract negotiation because the team felt a little

46:57bit differently about Terry than a lot of the fans have felt. That is he's a really good receiver. He's not a superstar. He's not an elite level receiver that you can just say, hey, I don't care what the coverage is. We're getting the ball to him 15 times. We're targeting him 15 times. It's not what you do with Terry. No one's ever done that with Terry and we've had now what did I just count through? Four coordinators, right? With Terry going back to, you know, really Jay Gruden, who was the play caller and they all love Terry. It's not that they don't think he's really good. They think he's very good. He's an excellent contested catch guy. He's good after the catch. He is a deep threat, but you don't watch the league people. Watch the league. He's not at that level. He's not at that level that Jamar Chase and Justin Jefferson and Amon Ross St. Brown

48:02and JSN. He's not at that level where you're like. It doesn't matter what they're doing defensively. This guy is, he gets open and we got to get him the ball. No one's treated Terry like that as a coordinator or play caller and we've had four of them since he's been here. It doesn't mean that he isn't good because he's really good and he's their number one, you know, by far, but he is not top 10, not top five. We're like, you know, 12 to 20 somewhere in that range and you know, that puts him in starts to put him in the back half of the number one receivers in the league and that's probably fair at this point. Tommy, it's why they didn't pay him. What do you want it to get paid? So this is this is just Terry being Terry. What do you mean? He didn't complain. Well, I saw Sunday. I know. He didn't complain. Right. Anyway, it became a storyline during the game.

49:03They kept flashing. Terry McClaren, no pass, no, no, no attempts to him. Right. Yeah, I mean, look, I don't really, I've said this a lot about the team that I root for when it comes to offensive football. I don't care how they move the football, you know, I don't care if it's more past, more run, more run, more pass, more run than past. Sometimes where's teams out, you know, and you really, you know, can impose your will. But I don't care if he's targeted four times and catches two balls and they win or not. You know, go back to, um, was it in 24? Remember the first few games there, you know, you're like, oh my God, King's Berry doesn't like Terry. He's not getting targeted at all. You know, I'm talking about Jayden's first few games. I'll go back and pull up the stats. It was very, very little that he was targeted in that first Jaden year, which turned out to be the best year of his career. So yeah, the opener for targets to reception, 17 yards, almost identical to the game against

50:08Tampa in 2024. And then, um, then he was targeted eight times and caught six balls for 22 yards against the Giants. That was it. He had 39 yards in reception yardage through the first two games of 2024. And he had that big game against Cincinnati and that terrible defense, remember, on Monday night football. Um, you know, that, that year just, I mean, I can go through all these years. He's rarely targeted in double digits rarely three times that year in the regular season, three. And then once in the postseason against Tampa. I mean, when Terry, Chris Alave the other day in Detroit had 10 catches, 10 catches for 182 yards. Let me see how many times he was targeted in the game because this was a, uh, this was a debate I got into with some of you about Alave, um, and Terry 13 targets, 10 catches

51:09182 yards. I don't even know what Terry's best game is, but I don't think he has many games in which he's caught double digit balls in this career. I mean, I can find that out pretty quickly. There have been a few, I'm going to say at least a few. But he's, look, the other thing is what we have to watch here is last year he was hurt. When he played, he didn't have jaden. So there wasn't a lot of impact games for him. And he's getting into that early 30s, you know, age area where you do with receivers, you can see a big drop off, especially with the guys that aren't, you know, elite. Let me see how many, I want to just see how many games he said that what I mean. Yeah. When it, I talk about is there a Terry problem? Meaning is, are we seeing the beginning of a drop off? He's got two games his career of double digit, uh, reception.

52:10You ready for it? 10 catches against Baltimore in 2020. Um, they got blown out in that game. That was the game where Ron Rivera was giving Dwayne Haskins a test during the game. Remember that? Oh, yeah. Um, and then against the Giants in 2021, uh, when they won the game on a Dustin Hopkins field goal, because by the way, Dexter Lawrence jumped off sides on the first one. Terry had 11 for 107. Uh, he's never, he hasn't, and then he had one, no, wait a minute, playoffs. And the playoffs, yeah, he's the most balls he's caught is seven against Tampa. Okay. So, um, no, I don't think there's a Terry problem. I, I said all off season, I'm expecting Terry to bounce back to be in the best shape and to really, because he's such a pro, give it like we're going to get the best of Terry this year.

53:12But is it possible that he's hit his peak and now we're getting the latter years of Terry? It's possible. I'll tell you what, thank God they got digs. I mean, I, I hated the penalty too. I can't stand some of that stuff. That's what you get with digs. But there were just absolute, you know, uh, he torched Cooper D'Agin over and over again in that game. He is an exceptional space creating route runner always has been. He's just got certain quicks in, in short spaces that Terry doesn't necessarily have. Uh, but, uh, I know, I know that you mentioned this, uh, but let me just mention one of the things particularly like about that first game was, was the performance of Antonio Williams. And I watched a lot of the all 22, his route running is very good.

54:14Like, and he's strong for a rookie. So I, I liked that was, you know, people come, actually compared him to a monoraw Saint Brown, which is quite the comparison. Uh, and he's wearing the same Jersey number as well. Uh, I don't see that kind of explosiveness necessarily, but he's a really, really good route runner. I, I can't wait to watch him more and more after, after what happened Sunday. I didn't know what we were going to get at wide receiver after Terry and digs. You know, the fact that they didn't activate for the game, Birx and McCaffrey told you that they were pretty confident that Antonio Williams could play because they were an 11 personnel. A lot more than we thought they would be, you know, uh, over the, over the summer. Um, and so they had three receivers out there. And it was Terry and it was, uh, Williams and it was digs. Let me look at the snap count offensively.

55:15Um, yeah, Terry 61 snaps digs 44 Williams 26 snaps. Deami was actually on the field for 37 snaps. And did should have drawn a penalty on that deep shot. I mean, he got absolutely mulled and there wasn't a call. But, uh, yeah, I mean, I'm going to be interested now, you know, Birx and McCaffrey, they resigned Birx. McCaffrey is part of the, you know, 2024 draft class, which we're getting to that outer limit of what I, you know, always think is, you know, wait me in three years and let's, then we can evaluate a draft. Um, but those second rounders are not looking very promising. Newton, no, they're not. Senate, Sanrestill. And then of course you've got, uh, Luke McCaffrey at the end of the third round along with what was the other third row, oh, Brandon Coleman was the other third round pick. And he's obviously playing.

56:17But, um, yeah, that first draft right now, I mean, it'll always be remembered for Jaden Daniels, but six picks in the top 100 and it's possible that only two of them, Jaden Daniels and Brandon Coleman end up being major, major hits, although Sanrestill did play well as a rookie, but he is struggling. Did you hear what Quinn said? It, Quinn really, he never is that direct about a player's poor performance, but he really told you yesterday, he said it was not acceptable. Um, I don't know what they're going to do. Uh, I guess Fabian Marot could be called up and could start. We'll see what happens because they're facing CD Lamb and George Pickens on Sunday. They better get to Dak Prescott. That's, that's my, now I didn't want to go into the Dallas game, but that's got to be their agenda to make Dak Prescott's life difficult.

57:19Yeah, but to do that, you got to stop the run first. Could Javante Williams is good. And he is, uh, he's a guy that can really make things easier. You've got to be in good down in distance against the Cowboys defensively. And then yeah, you got to, you got to get after Prescott. You got to make, you got to hurry him up because I think we've seen enough. We think, although they played a lot of zone, I, I guess that it was 70, 30 zone to man. It was 84% zone on Sunday per, I think, um, summersports. But you can't give Lamb and Pickens time to get down field. You've got to get the ball out of Dak's hands quickly. Have to. And then you got to tackle. Well, of course, we'll have all that later in the week. Um, all right. Did we cover the Terry situation? Yeah. All right, let's get to the Monday Night game. 1:05:33So was what's her face? Sandra O. Right? I think that's her name. Yeah. Yeah. What a great movie. If you've never seen Sideways, it is totally worth it. And you don't have to be a wine person at all to enjoy it. I'm not a wine person. Yeah. And I'd love to. Paul Giamatti's great in everything. He's really good in everything. What's your favorite Paul Giamatti role? I actually have one that may surprise you. Well, actually, I like them in Cinderella Man. The boxing movie. He was excellent as the corner guy. Yeah. Yeah, he was the manager for a Russell Crowe character, Jim Brattick. Right. I love that movie. I watch that repeatedly. And I loved him in that as well. He was great in private parts, you know, as as Stern's program director.

1:06:35At WNBC. Yeah. Yeah, pig vomit. Pig vomit. He was good in saving private Ryan, the small party had in that movie. He was good in the Brian Wilson, the Beach Boys movie. Oh, God, why am I blanking on the name of that movie was so so good. Love and mercy. Love and mercy. He was so good in that John Adams, you know, series on HBO. Plank John Adams. So damn good in that. I loved him in that. I loved him in everything, but that was such a great series. Whenever it's on, I get sucked back in to watching it because it was so good. And Laura Linney plays Abigail Adams and she was incredible in that. Did you watch that? No, I didn't. I should watch it, right? Yeah, yeah.

1:07:35I want to say it's like 10 episodes. It was an HBO show from, I mean, it might be 20 years ago now. Might be 20 years ago. But it was, it was, you know, it was the book that what's his face wrote. You know, the, the guy that wrote a bunch of political books. Irish last name. No, the guy I'm forgetting. He wrote 1776. He wrote John Adams. I'll come up with it. I'm looking for it now. I'm looking for it. David McCullough. It was, you know, off of that book that he wrote. Right. But yeah, you know, yeah, he's, he's so good in everything. Did you see, um, did, did you see the love and mercy movie about, about Brian Wilson from the Beach Boys or? I've never seen that either. I think you would really like that. I think you would really like that. That's, you know, that word gets tossed around a bit too much with artists, but Brian Wilson was a musical genius, for sure.

1:08:39Yeah. All right. The game last night. I'm sitting there watching this game and I'm like, I think I am watching one of the great rushing performances by a running back that I've seen in a long time. Kenneth Walker, the third, went for a buck 73 in the game, averaged over, you know, what was it? It was close to eight yards per carry. And it was all him. It was all yards after contact and his style running style. It was really sort of on display for the world to see in the post season last year and then obviously in the playoffs as well. But it's a very deliberate patient, Lavion Bell-esque, you know, kind of running style. He at times will come to a near stop in the backfield and then his vision is so exceptional.

1:09:4023 for 173 last night, 7.5 yards per carry. Listen to some of the stats that came out after the game. He is the first player since 1987 and I'll tell you the player in a moment to rush for 150 plus yards have a 60 plus yard rushing touchdown, have a receiving touchdown, have more total net yards than the opposing team and more points than the opposing team. The last player to do that was Vincent Bo Jackson, November 30th, 1987. There's a stat here. He generated 101 rushing yards over expected against the Broncos. That is insanely high and he forced 14 missed tackles.

1:10:41The most by any chiefs player, you know, as a as a Russia or as a pass catcher ever. He was really, really good last night. And I, you know, he was had in free agency for 14.3 million over a three year deal. We talked about him in free agency. We talked about a running back in free agency in Kenneth Walker. The third was out there and a lot of discussion about him. The chiefs got themselves, I think, one of those backs that is developing into a true kind of game changing back. Is he, you know, is he Jameer Gibbs? Is he, you know, Derek Henry? God, I'm surprised you haven't even mentioned, mentioned Derek Henry yet. You know, is he my favorite guy, B. John Robinson?

1:11:43No, but he's not far below it. And the chiefs looked good. My homes looked good. One game Denver looked terrible. With the new play collar. I wonder how long Sean Payton is going to allow that, not calling plays. By the way, speaking of Denver, did you see this story that drew breeze? Was approached about returning last year to play for the Broncos in the AFC championship game after Bonyx got hurt? Yes, I saw that. Some of the Denver coaches who knew him from New Orleans reached out to him. And breeze took it seriously enough to do it and prompt to work out what it's done, right? Yeah, what's interesting about this story, I thought, is that Adam Schaefter wrote it. And they said that Joe Lombardi, Denver's OC last year, and Pete Carmichael, longtime offensive assistant, they were the ones that reached out to breeze, not Sean Payton.

1:12:44You know, at least it didn't say that in the story. And you just said, breeze said, I need to get a workout in. And then I'll let you know he worked out and he had discomfort in his wrist. And he just next the idea. Jared stood him ended up starting that game. And there was a lot of confidence in Jared stood him heading into that game. And he played poorly in that championship game. The other thing too, did you see that Max Crosby, this was, I think, reported over the weekend, Max Crosby, after the Baltimore Ravens trade fell through, the Rams reached out and they wanted to trade for Max Crosby before they traded for Miles Garrett. And Max Crosby nixed the deal. He didn't want to get dealt to the Rams, which is kind of interesting when you're playing for the Raiders. But he wanted to stay in Vegas, which I thought was pretty interesting. I think he maybe he was shell shocked from all the, from the whole Ravens mess.

1:13:50You know, yeah, maybe. This is for you because it includes New York teams. But this was the first time in NFL history that the Raiders Cardinals, Jets and Giants, all won on opening day. And world enough to remember, when the Raiders Jets and Giants were actually good at the same time, you know, the Raiders and the Jets played in some playoff games, you know, into the 80s. The, the Giants were obviously good. I guess the Cardinals probably weren't good at the same time. I'll just mention this right now and I talked about it. I think yesterday on the show, the Cardinals are actually an interesting team. And I know it's only one game. And I'm not basing it off of one game. Although the Cardinals win, Tommy. Where's that, that number? The Circa survivor pool, which is the biggest survivor pool out there. It's the one that are good,

1:14:52Buddy Aaron Oster, who used to produce this podcast. He works on that and, and manages that circus survivor pool. He works for, for circus sports out in Vegas. And it eliminated $10.3 million worth of the field on Sunday. Wow. We see this every year. You know, a big favorite or two are played. And one of those big favorites goes down. And the top two teams were Jacksonville against Cleveland and the chargers against Arizona and the chargers lost outright. But the Cardinals have, it's funny because Chicobeer said I've always thought was a decent quarterback. Like, yes, me too. This guy can play a little bit. I was broke me nuts about when he was here. Yeah. And they did the whole Sam Howe experiment. He they've got the rookie running back to Aaron. My love, who's not completely healthy,

1:15:54even though he played the sign Tyler Alger. They have Marvin Harrison Jr., who has not, you know, lived up to the number four overall pick in 2024 yet. And they've got Tray McBride, who you could argue is one of the top two or three tight ends in the in the game. And they actually are capable offensively. And it's a Shanahan Laflour, you know, it's Mike Laflour coming from Sean McVey system. And, you know, that's one of those things. They had the lowest over under number at three and a half at one point during the off season of any team since the 2017 jets. And I'm not saying the cardinals are going to go out and, you know, compete for the division or a playoff spot. But when I'm watching the highlights and I'm like, Oh, that's right. Tray McBride. Oh, the Jeremiah love. Oh, Tyler Alger. Oh, Marvin Harrison and it's Chico B. Brissette just slinging it to wide open people against the chargers and that defense in week one. I mean, they they dominated

1:17:01the game. They had like 400 yards of offense, 26 points. And Brissette, I think through for like nearly 300 in the game. Um, the NFL man, try to predict it. You you mentioned the jets. I just wanted to go old school here for a second. There's something I came across online a video that was interesting when the jets won the world series. I mean, one of the world's series won the Superbowl. Okay. In January, 69, uh, when they opened that 69 season later that is Buffalo, there were hundreds of bill fans at the airport to greet the jets. What? And not to support them. Okay. And the and the players before the game were openly like like interacting with the jet

1:18:03shaking their hands. And this was all because the AFL and its fans when the jet keeps the cult in that huge show. Sure. That was a win for the entire league they saw it as every player in an AFL uniform felt a like a debt of gratitude for the jets for winning that Superbowl. And that's why they treated them that year. You know, at least in the beginning of the season and you know, bill fans out motionally are they were there to greet the jets. I don't know if that was wild. Yeah. I mean, the merger would come a year later in 1970, but I think they had already agreed to the merger. Like it didn't take the jets winning that Superbowl for the merger to take place. 1:19:08fans. Carried the jets as they're getting off the plane. Wow. You know, um, Tommy the Heidi game, right? The jets raiders in like a regular season game. You know what's interesting about that. And I've never thought about that until we just started to have a conversation about those jets teams in the late 60s. They were playing AFL games. They weren't that wasn't an AFL. That was an NFL game. And so the AFL, you'll remember this. I don't. The AFL had a network had network television agreements as well. With NBC. Uh, the AFL was on NBC, which ended up being the AFC's broadcast partner when they started. Yes. So the NBC with Kirk Gowdy. Yeah. Call the AFL games. So on a Sunday afternoon in 1968 or 1969 before the merger, CBS would have the NFL games. And

1:20:09then NBC would have the AFL games. That's how it worked. That's how it worked. And then, and then you got, you got the game of your home market team. And then another game afterwards. I'm assuming. So was there a double header every Sunday on NBC AFL games on CBS NFL games? I mean, I don't, I don't remember. I'm thinking there was. I don't remember. All right. Because the Heidi game was 1968. November 17th. Raiders came back to win 43 to 32 over the jets. And NBC broke away from the game to show the television film Heidi featuring and starring Julie Andrews. Yeah. That was a four o'clock game. Right. Obviously. And, uh, and I think the Raiders

1:21:11groups retouched down in the last 142, one minute 42 seconds. Yeah. The, um, that was the story of that game. And I've got the Wikipedia page up on that is that there was a day loose of calls into NBC. And that was one of the first indications, you know, television wise that this NFL is becoming a real, real popular product in this country. Uh, when they, when they were day loose with calls over how could you bail on that game for Heidi? Because remember 1968 baseball still the king in this country. Oh, yeah. You know, yeah. Uh, and then those teams would play. Yeah, here it is. They played later on, um, in the AFC championship game and the jets won that game to go on to Super Bowl three where they beat the Colts 16 to seven. And what was, you know, the biggest

1:22:13upset, uh, in Super Bowl history, they were, I think it was an 18 or 19 point underdog, something like that. Yeah. You know, the funny thing about that is the Super Bowl the following year, Super Bowl four, which was chiefs and Vikings. The chiefs were also a massive underdog in that Super Bowl. You love those chiefs teams, um, from that era. Yeah. Um, but 1970 defense. Yeah. Yeah. Call of famous on it. But that, that Super Bowl game, um, that I don't think they were as big of an underdog as the jets were, but the chiefs were a double digit underdog against the Vikings. So it was two straight years of the AFL beating the NFL, uh, champ. And, uh, yeah, let me see if I can find the point spreads for those games. Um, so the jets were 18 point underdogs. The Vikings were
