Wayne Knight is taking over at UCLA. We break down his massive start and why his rushing production is just getting started.

Wayne Knight has made an immediate impact for UCLA football by racking up six rushing touchdowns in just two games. We examine his efficiency on the field and why this early success might actually be a conservative baseline for his true potential as the season progresses.

This performance has quickly caught the attention of fans following the Big Ten football landscape. We discuss how his development fits into the larger conference hierarchy and what this means for the team's offensive outlook as they face tougher competition in college football this year.

Hey, it's Kelly Rowland. You may not know this, but I have eczema. So I get how it can steal your time. But why let eczema take over when you can talk to your doctor about eczema? Eczema, eczema, lbkz, a 250mg per 2mg injection is a prescription medicine used to treat adults and children 12 years of age and older, who weigh at least 88 lbs or 40kg with moderate to severe eczema. Also called a topic dermatitis that is not well controlled with prescription therapies used on the skin or topicals or who cannot use topical therapies. Eczema can be used without topical corticosteroids. Don't use if you are allergic to eczema. A allergic reaction can occur that can be severe. I-problems can occur. Tell your doctor if you have newer, worsening eye problems. You should not receive a live vaccine when treated with eczema. Before starting eczema, tell your doctor if you have a parasitic infection. Pay partnership with Lilly. Respect your time. Ask your doctor about eczema and visit eczema.com or call 1-800-LilyRx or 1-800-545. At QVC, shopping is more than just checking out.

That alone is ridiculous, especially when you think about what they were last season. I actually think we've got even better things to come for UCLA fans if they are excited about Wade Knight and what he is doing right now. He might do more in the future because this might still be a low volume version of Wade Knight. In this episode of The Big Ten Huttle presented by Fandule, I want to show you why Knight's history with Bob Chesney suggests his role could continue to grow as the season gets more difficult and why UCLA may have one of the most overlooked breakout players in The Big Ten. Let's start with what got us all here a little bit. Knight scored three touchdowns against Cal. Then UCLA came out against San Diego State. It was zero to zero at half time and then Knight scored three touchdowns in the second half alone. Right now, six rushing touchdowns on the season, only two games in accordance to PFF numbers. He's done that on only 20 designed rush attempts.

Only 20. That's a pretty crazy efficiency there. He's turned those into 163 yards averaging over eight yards per attempt or per carry with six touchdowns. That is absolutely absurd efficiency. Obviously, this is not going to last all season long, but for at least for right now, every time Wade Knight touches the ball, he's got a chance to score. In the part that UCLA fans should be excited about, it's not just simply, wow, hopefully keeps up the eight yards of carry for only eight carries per game. That's probably not realistic. Let's just be honest, but the exciting part is that Bob Chesney has gotten elite production without having to put a heavy workload on him. We've seen that before with Knight. You go back to 2024 and when he was at James Madison, Knight didn't begin that season at anything close to a traditional workhorseback or a traditional workload that you would think a guy of his caliber could he get? He designed, sorry, his designed Russia temps in the first three games were two, two and

one. That's only five carries. That's the role starting to grow for him more. Then he got six carries against ball state, six carries against coast Carolina, seven against Southern Miss, and then ten against old Dominion. Then he went all the way up to 12 against APS. Then he went back down a little bit, 11 against Marshall, but still 10 plus carries after only getting two two and one in the first few games. He finished the year with 76 designed Russia temps for 446 yards. Then 2025 happened and once again, Chesney didn't immediately open the season by giving Knight 20 carries per every Saturday, seven designed attempts in this opener, five the next week, and then after the second week, historically this is what happens either after the third game or after the second game, boom, then 17 carries, boom, then 19 carries. And eventually Knight became one of the most productive players in the country. He finished 2025 with 206 designed run attempts for over 1300, I think it was nearly 1400 yards.

And according to PFF, averaging 6.6 yards per carry. Officially UCLA credit him with 1373 yards and 207 carries. PFF has always got a few things just a little off. But most importantly, he finished with over 2000 all purpose yards. He became second team all American and that's kind of the history of things here. And the history of Bob Chesney here is that he doesn't necessarily walk into September and immediately say, wait Knight, here's your 25 carries. He lets the offense develop. He lets the rotation establish itself. And then when Knight becomes the guy they need, the workload grows. And that's why UCLA fans have a lot to be excited about and just got some great news about the future of Wayne Knight and his production increasing because his volume should be increasing as well. And here's another number that I love. Knight has already produced 85 yards after contact this season on those 20 designed runs.

That is 4.25 yards after contact per rush. If you think about that, excuse me, if you think about that before we're talking about what UCLA's offensive line creates for, Knight is generating more than 4 yards per attempt after contact. And that isn't just some completely new skill in 2024. PFF had him at 4.57 after yards after contact per carry. And it's break out 2025 season. He had 782 yards after contact and forced 48 missed tackles. So when UCLA gets into those ugly big 10 games and the blocking isn't perfect and everything isn't so wide open, Knight has already shown that he can create yards that aren't simply handed to him. And that's what makes him such a good Bob Chesney player. He's explosive. He can catch the ball. He can contribute in the run game. He can also turn a block for three yard run into a five or six yards.

And now Chesney has brought that exact player with him to the UCLA roster. We've seen him a little bit, but now I think we're going to start seeing them more. And it's really, really exciting. And Chesney basically told you how he views Knight after the San Diego state game. UCLA was struggling offensively. And then Knight got going in Chesney's explanation was basically sometimes the guy gets hot. And at that point, you'd be ridiculous to take him out. So that's important. Maybe he gets hot in week three. Maybe it takes until week four, but traditionally around week three, around week four is really when you start to see the volume and the carries increase. I don't think UCLA came into the season planning to give Knight 25 carries a game at running back. And I still don't think that's necessarily their goal. Knight, any woods is good and he can have a rotation there for you. He had 118 yards and two touchdowns against Cal. So UCLA wants multiple backs involved. Nico Emole, Ava is going to be part of this rushing equation as well.

And that's actually a good thing for Knight. You don't have to run him into the ground in September. But when a game gets tight, when UCLA gets into conference play, that's where a fourth quarter where you absolutely have to have eight yards can come into play. Whether it's eight yards, one yard, three yard, whatever it is, he can come into play. They've already seen who Chesney trusts when Knight has the hot hand. And that is where the upside starts getting really, really interesting. Because right now, Fandall doesn't even have Wayne Knight listed with Heisman Trophy odds on the current board. And no, I'm not sitting here saying he's going to win the Heisman or anything like that. But or that he should be a Heisman favorite. That's not my point. Coming back already having uphill battle to get that award. My point is almost the opposite. At QVC, fall shopping is more than just checking out. That's how under the radar. He still is nationally six touchdowns and people still don't know his name as much 8 plus yards per designed run according to pff and people still don't know his name enough and when or and he isn't even showing up on the board. His night continues to produce and his touches start climbing once UCLA reaches the heart

of big 10 play forget the heisman for a second way night could legitimately become the break out player of the year in the big 10 because think about what still hasn't happened. He hasn't had a 20 carry game yet he hasn't had a carry hasn't had to carry UCLA for four quarters yet he hasn't had the game where UCLA gives him 18 carries and six or seven targets. I also don't think UCLA wants to do that if they need to they will but I think they want to continue to try and incorporate the entire team and based off what we've seen historically not that they're going to make him be the entire team but they are going to increase his workload at some point in 2025 night eventually had games of 17 18 19 and 21 design carries and look at how the season ended against Oregon he had 110 yards on 17 attempts then in the conference championship game against Troy he had 21 carries for two hundred and twelve yards more than 10 yards per carry that was what Chesney spent the early portion of the season managing

the workload with much more conservatively that's the part UCLA fans should pay attention to the current production is not happening because UCLA is feeding night the ball 25 times it's happening while the Bruins are still sharing touches so after looking at all of this here's kind of what my you know final thought is I've been kind of hyping up boy night a little bit but here's my final thought I think UCLA found the perfect player to help accelerate Bob Chesney's rebuild not simply because Wayne night followed Chesney to James Madison not simply because he understands the offense it's because night gives Chesney something of incredible value while UCLA is still trying to establish its identity here a little bit and Bob Chesney still getting kind of the use to things he doesn't need 20 touches a game that allows UCLA to be patient you can use what you can use Nico spread the ball around keep night fresh but when UCLA reaches the point of the schedule where they need their best players to become the biggest part of the offense there is every reason to believe

that option is sitting right there for you just waiting to be used just waiting to be the guy and that's what I want to see next that's what I want to watch next with this UCLA team so forget whether night scores another three touchdowns against Purdue or not that's not the test to me that's not the test just watch the workload see how much more game in and game out how many more carries he's getting and stuff like that I mean could he get to 12 carries does 12 become 15 carries and then when UCLA gets into a clout close fourth quarter who gets the football all of this is our good questions to ask about UCLA because UCLA is legitimately a better team with way night having the ball in his hands and when big tents opponents start building their defenses around night how does UCLA either start using him more as a receiver or use him less and kind of switch things up you mean remember this this isn't only a running back that way night is he caught 40 passes for nearly 400 yards last year at James Madison that's another part of his game UCLA hasn't even needed to

lean into all that heavily yet has he got some balls of course he has but he they'd not had to lean into it as heavily yet so there are still layers to this offense that that haven't really been exposed yet that's why I'm buying into way night six touchdowns is the flashing number eight yards for carries a flashing number but those aren't actually the numbers that have me most excited 20 carries that's the number because if this is what way night looks like in a limited early season workload I mean what does he look like when Bob Chesney decides UCLA needs more history suggests that moment is probably coming either this week or next week and if night keeps producing anywhere close to the level when he does the big 10 may have their breakout star on their hand that almost nobody nationally was talking about of course we were talking about it here on the big 10 huddle because we know what we're talking about but nobody else was talking about how many many carries would you want way night getting once UCLA gets to the heart of big 10 play let me know put it down
