We GoVie. J.A. Pollard announced on the coach's corner show John Walters that this will be his last week

in the office as Iowa State athletic director. He mentioned that he'll be emotional on Saturday night as he cleans out his office following Iowa State in West Virginia. But Pollard is not completely done as AD. He will go on the road next week to the big 12 meetings. And then he'll be on the road for Iowa State at BYU next Friday night. And after that he will be working remotely. And that will line up about what the timeline is when Iowa State will be hiring their new athletic director. Pollard told Scott Reister all that information about being at the big 12 meetings next week and being at the BYU game and then working remotely and also added that Iowa State will be announcing the AD sometime in mid-October. So while this does seem like a massive headline, there's not a ton that has changed. Pollard has known for months that this change will be coming as that announcement came in July that he'll be retiring and that he plans to be done by next summer. That timeline has of course moved up.

President David Cook clearly has wanted to get a new face in there that will be moving in time for the transfer portal for basket ball season. And it all makes sense. So while it is abrupt, at least that's what it seems like from the outside, not a ton has changed. Iowa State coaches, they have known Pollard has been leaving for four or five months. Pollard at this point, especially on the way out, and this is not a Pollard thing, this is just kind of how it works among all of college athletics. When you're on the way out, you're not as involved with the day-to-day activities. And that's essentially to me what this seems to be. Pollard is very, very close to retirement and Iowa State will soon have a person of power in that position. And so that's kind of what it is. Pollard will get a send-off on Saturday at Jack Tray Stadium, his last home game as, guess, acting athletic director, at least by the timeline.

It seems like Iowa State will have someone in those next couple of weeks. So there's that. We'll continue to update you if there's any changes to that, but seems like pretty standard protocol as far as these transitions of power go. Now who's going to be the new AD? We don't know that yet. Iowa State has done a very good job of keeping things tight-lipped. We will continue to report if we get any information, but interviews are being conducted, and they should have someone here in the coming weeks based off of everything that we've heard. We will continue to report on Iowa State's AD situation. Now let's get back to some football. We're going to talk about the atmosphere at Jack Tray Stadium on Saturday and the type of impact it can have and what's needed out of the fans. That's all coming up right here after your word from Fairway Mean Grocery. These fairway skinless brats are the way to go. There's no casing. There's no fight. You got to have the skin to keep everything in, and when those juices flow, ho ho ho! Good thing we have both.

I don't want juices flowing. That's the whole point. It is the daily clone here in the Northwest Bank Studios. I'm Jake Brennan. It's all brought to you by Fairway Mean and Grocery. Look at the Forecasters Saturday. Perfect weather. 70 in sunny. 0% chance of rain. I'll believe that when I see it. But by all accounts, it looks fantastic for Saturday. So everyone should be in the tailgating lots. Be there early. 11am kick. Get there at 6am. You can maybe have some brats for breakfast. It's never been a bad thing. Fairway Mean and Grocery. It's your spot to be. Not just during football season, but all year round. The best meat market and the best grocery store in the state all into one. Very awesome. Let's talk atmosphere on Saturday. I'm ready for a normal big 12 atmosphere Jack Tray Stadium. The first three games of the Jimmy Rogers era. There's been something wrong with all of them. And I'm not one to make excuses. But if I were to make an excuse, first game, random thunderstorm out of nowhere.

It was so hot. So hot. Like it was miserable down on the field. And then sure enough, this random thunderstorm comes in delays. Everybody. Nobody knows when the game was going to start. It wasn't the greatest run out because fans were still walking in because they didn't announce when they were going to start. It was hot. I understand why it wasn't the greatest of crowds that day. Bowling green. Again, it was raining. It was bowling green. It's hard to blame some people for choosing not to go. And the Utah game, I thought the crowd was good. It was engaged. But it was a rough start to the game. There were, I mean, there's a touchdown on the first play from Scrimmage. The air got sucked out of that building. And the fans helped will that team back in the game in the second half. That is what Jimmy Rogers wants to see all season long. Here he gives us a price of sancer. I do appreciate the fans that came out who were a part of, for one staying through a rough half of football and honestly probably wanting to pull their hair out.

But if we want to be the program, we want to be and have the success that we want to be. I can tell you firsthand that everybody including Utah felt the momentum shift inside of that. And the fans are a big part of that. Our players fed off that energy for that. Really probably 18 minutes stretch where we were starting to get in rhythm. That's pivotal. OK, so although you might want to rip your hair out with this football team at some time, it's like we can be balled together, but you still got to show up and stick with this and work through the hard times because I could promise you it will only get better and better the more we learn and grow as a football team. Me, Jimmy Rogers, Chris Williams, Mattias, we can all do it. Sorry, I'm wearing a cowboy's hat. I didn't even think about that today. I just had to wrap my Dallas Cowboys as they totally didn't break my heart on Sunday. Regardless, the point still stands. If I was state can get the output from the fanbase that they got in the second half against Utah on Saturday against West Virginia, that can swing a game. That should be the mindset going forward. The people that are there, they've sacrificed a lot.

They've lost 80 other favorite players to Penn State and to other places around the country. They've lost a coaching staff that they love. They're hopping on board with the Jimmy Rogers era. There will be more fans as winning comes. That's natural in college athletics. It's also natural that there are times watching Ives State games where you want to play your hair out because they're not perfect. They shouldn't be expected to be perfect at this point. But Rogers is correct that if you can be on board, if you can be there, be loud, be loud when they're on defense, that can really help get this thing off the ground. Saturday is a massive opportunity. You look at the schedule following this. A road trip to Provo to play BYU. A road trip to Tucson to play Arizona. Then a home game against Oklahoma State who is a dynamic offense. Those are three really tough games. While I don't think I would state we'll go on three in that stretch, it wouldn't surprise me if they go on three. If they go on three in that stretch, the team's two and two right now.

Depending on what happened Saturday, you're staring down the barrel of either two and six or three and five. That makes this game on Saturday enormous. Because if this team wants to get to a bowl game, I absolutely think that every game they'll play in November is very winnable. At Baylor, Cincinnati at home, at Central Florida, K State at home. I really do think all of those games are winnable. One of the odds they went all four of those. Probably not great. That makes this Saturday. When you want to look to having a lot of hope, not for the team. I expect the team to be motivated. These guys are essentially paid professionals at this point. They have pride. They're playing for their coach. They're playing for the logo. They're playing for Iowa State. Regardless if they're eight, no, or eight. I don't fear that at all. What I'm saying is if that team goes out there and loses Saturday to West Virginia and then maybe drop two or three in a row.

Let's say they come back to play, man, that'd be Cincinnati in early November and the team is three and six or two and set like, it probably wouldn't be a great atmosphere. If they can win this game on Saturday against West Virginia and build momentum into that road trip, then who knows what that November could look like. If Iowa State can win two of their next four between West Virginia and maybe Arizona or Oklahoma State, then everything is on the table in November. The point is you can have a massive impact. Crowds will adopt over time the identity and the personality of their head coach. I think we're going to see that with the Rogers staff. I love the crowd in the second half. It doesn't matter that a couple of the corners were a little bit empty. The fans that were in that stadium and this is how it often goes. The 80% that are always there that make the most impact.

The 20% that come and go, it makes some of an impact but they're typically not the ones that are going nuts on third down anyways. Iowa State is going to need a lot of that on Saturday because West Virginia is a dang good football team. I think Iowa State's good football team too. I think this is a very even matchup and a very exciting matchup and we're going to break it all down again tomorrow on Thursday's daily clone. We're talking to Ben Hutchins, our old friend, old member of the Beat reporters, a founding father of the Beat reporters. He's coming back on the Beat reporters for our Thursday show. He now covers Oklahoma State, working down, covering his alma mater. An Oklahoma State just played West Virginia so we're going to get his insight onto what Iowa State will see out of the mountaineers. Be sure to check that out and we will be back with the daily clone tomorrow on Thursday.
