Daily Devotionals: When We Can't See

0:00September 26th, when we can't see. Have you ever been in complete darkness? Maybe you're blind or you've been in a setting before that was devoid of all light. When you can't see what's around you, it's hard to feel safe. Your security, it seems, has been impaired. Our lives can feel much the same way. We can't see into the future or be certain of what will happen, but we don't have to be afraid. Not being able to see doesn't change the fact that God will provide, which is what Kim discovered. Kim Wix became a well-known singer, but her story began in Korea, where she was born and lived during the Korean War. She's here now to share with us her true story. 1:02My family was homeless and destitute, and I was left at a home for deaf and blind children. The founders of the school were Christian missionaries who taught me to read in Braille, and I did well in classes. I was 10 years old when an American couple from Indiana wanted to adopt me. Before I left, my longtime teacher gave me a Bible verse from Isaiah 42 to memorize, and I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not. I will lead them in paths that they have not known. I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them. I clung to that verse. In my new home I learned to type, and then I learned English quickly, passing through fourth and fifth grades. My new parents took me to hear an evangelist, and I went forward and gave my life to Christ. I still had disappointments. Prejudiced kept me from the National Honor Society in high school, but I received a full-bright scholarship to study at the Vienna Institute of Music, which meant that I had to have a way to read the textbooks.

2:05God provided, and I completed the study. But I saw the shallowness of secular music, and since then I have sung for the glory of God. Let's take another look at the verse, Kim memorized. Isaiah chapter 42 verse 16 is speaking of the blind nation of Judah that had turned away to pursue ungodliness. Yet here God promises to provide their restoration, saying, I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not. I will lead them in paths that they have not known. I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. Friend, God is our sovereign Lord and provider. Without Him we have nothing.
