Gun South has been a podcast about crime in the American South.
But for our new season, we're widening the lens.
Follow and listen to Gun South season 5, wherever you get your shows.
It's that time of the day.
This daily mock every one o'clock I always miss it when it's not daily mock time.
And then we're back as we lead you up to the start of the NFL draft.
About a prime five weeks from now, we're close.
We're not that far away. So the daily mock at one o'clock it will not be long now.
It starts with Pittsburgh.
It does. It starts in Pittsburgh, at least it starts in Pittsburgh.
You're going to write that down in the notebook?
Yes, I am.
Okay, I hope we get a chance to go.
Don't know yet.
No, we still try.
It would be awesome if we can go to the draft this year.
The number one pick in the latest NFL mock
draft. We're going to bleach reports today.
No surprise.
Quarterback Fran Nando Mendoza from Indiana to the writers.
Number two, the Jets take Avril Rees.
The pass register from Ohio State.
Number three, the Cardinals take linebacker.
Sonny Stiles from Ohio State.
Man, back to back Ohio State players at two and three at number four.
The Tennessee Titans select Jeremiah Love.
The running back out of Notre Dame.
It's becoming pretty much consensus.
He's going to go top five, which is pretty wild.
Number five, the New York Giant select wide receiver.
Carnell Tate out of Ohio State.
So he was just quickly in the top five.
The first thing I thought of when I saw this one is
how did Ohio State not win the title last year?
They'd have three of the first five picks.
They got some fast keys out there, man.
They were killing it at the compound this year.
By the way, I also have the seventh overall pick in this draft.
Caleb Downs to watch it.
So four Ohio State kids in the top seven of the draft.
Let's go down here to the Philadelphia Eagles at number 23.
Last couple days we've seen a tackle and go to the Eagles.
Yesterday we talked about Sadeek the Titan.
Today we're going to a different position.
We're the Philadelphia Eagles at number 23.
The latest mock draft to police report.
Take a past rusher out of the University of Central Florence.
Yes, UCF by the name of Malachai Lawrence from UCF.
You what do you think Malachai Lawrence here?
Just watching the film from the man six five six four.
I'm sorry 25 to three pounds a big long guy.
I saw some of his highlights, Joe.
He's very versatile at the position that he played left in, right in.
He had his hand in the dirt sometime.
He kind of stood up.
And when you think about the defense that the Eagles could potentially run,
it feels like he would be a pretty decent fit for them.
You know, ran a 45 to 40, not a bad time for a guy that big.
I can see that to be honest, looking at some of these mock drafts over the last couple days.
You'll be hard pressed to find the Eagles taking a defender with the first pick.
Most of the drafts that I've seen has been offensive line and has been offensive line help.
So it's kind of surprising that, you know, you find a few of these drafts out here that have them
taking the defender with the first pick.
I would say it's I've I had a guest right now about five weeks.
That I would say it's probably going to be offense.
Yeah, but he would if they go defense edge feels like the spot that they're a little thin there.
There's also just question marks about Nolan Smith's future.
When I watched the highlights of Malachai Lawrence,
the first player I thought of was Josh Sweat.
He looks like Josh Sweat to me.
He's got those long arms.
Yeah, kind of the build of a handsy tool.
Yeah, what I mean by that is he plays well with his hands.
Sounds crazy.
But what I'm trying to think we all know what you man.
Yeah, he's he's he, you know, I saw I do the chop rip the push pool where you know,
you pull past the offense and line me to get to the quarterback.
Nice burst off the edge.
Yeah, I can see that.
Couple of other things stood out from his playing career at UCF.
When was the last time you saw a player not transfer?
He played all four years.
I mean, he's obviously capable of being a first round pick.
Right. He's in the smock.
Yeah, he stayed at UCF for four years.
Typically a player when they come in with the highest bidder in order to stop and leave.
You would think if if he's going to be a first round pick last year or one of these years,
Alabama or Georgia, one of these.
He's probably tried to get him.
He didn't leave.
So that is what it is, but also pretty productive.
Last, so he didn't play much as freshman year,
but his or a sophomore, I guess he registered,
but his last three years of college, 10 and a half,
six, 11, not a bad, not a bad.
So 27 and a half sacks last year.
So a productive player.
He reminds me of Josh, but keep an eye on that name.
Malik high Lawrence in today's at Deli Mock at one o'clock.
All right, we have the bracket of Hughes here.
The madness continues.
And before two o'clock today, we will have moved on 16 more teams
into the round of 32.
Or we'll get back to all your phone calls here.
Right now starting with David in the Northeast.
Hey, David.
Hey, what's up, Joseph?
David, how are you?
Listen, I'm just trying to understand this now.
Uh-huh.
About, um, I'd like, I'd like to, you know,
Kenny Bryant, I used to play back with, uh,
Cunningham and, uh, and the other quarterback.
That's right.
Why don't they go back to somebody old school stuff?
He's trying to, um, trying, trying to set up screens like.
I do miss the screen.
I miss the screen game.
The screen game is still.
The old and every screen game.
Oh, yeah.
Dump it over in Westbrook runs for 20 or 30.
They were good at that.
Yeah.
You know, you had your, you had your split in coming to option
to the inside.
The little flare pairs.
I think Barclay.
Since, since I might, uh, um,
uh, you Douglas mentioned it earlier that he didn't have too many.
Didn't do too good Russian.
Uh, how's his situation with catch him?
Can he do?
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, I wouldn't say he's the best in the league.
But he could catch the four.
Yeah, he could take a screen.
He could take a screen.
He, he, he, you ain't throwing it to him like you throw to Westbrook.
You're not doing it.
I think that little flight, that little flare press option.
If they put a three main line and they know that they're going,
you know, probably best.
Have more linebackers laid back.
Uh, your job.
I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm a fan of your job.
Who is it?
I like sometimes the Eagles used to do that open screen to the outside.
I think that's a waste of play.
How about if, how about if Eagles?
You don't, I don't care about any other team.
How about yeah, um, Eagles making an option,
an option to practice putting out like a three main screen.
And, you know, go, go back to the old school.
We need more of that because they do school.
Didn't work this year, David.
I like this.
You share more efficient.
I understand that.
Yeah, and it's more person.
But,
get, get, get your blind side.
I'm in.
I, I think she knows what you're up a little bit.
And I would guess Sean Manian's going to,
to go to do some of this.
David, you ready for your matchup on the bracket of Hughes?
Um, no, not really.
Hey, you Douglas.
Yes, sir.
I have your first tackle.
I will, I'll, of newspaper.
It's, it's him with my mother's stuff.
Okay.
And I picked it out.
I remember a few, few months ago,
you were talking about that.
And I said to my, I knew where it was.
I grabbed her box.
And I saw you leaning in.
Oh, yeah.
You know, and, um,
I'm just saying you were good,
you were good, you were good person for the team.
Well, thank you, sir.
He was. He was.
Well, he got to anyone, but still.
I'm in, bring it all back.
I think we give David a matchup anyway.
All right, David.
Has been you or life alert you?
Who do you got?
What, what did that again?
Ha, has been, he was a, he used to be good.
He's a has been now or life alert you.
I think I would go with you.
Give me two.
Yeah, which one he picked.
You got to pick one of the queues.
There's 64.
Is it has been for life alert?
It would nice to have a wife.
There would be nice.
I have a wife.
Okay.
I feel him.
I feel I know.
Yeah, I think that's him picking life alert.
Yeah, I think so.
I think he thought I said wife with life alert.
But David, great phone call.
Great phone call.
Life unnecessarily want a wife.
I told what did I tell you the,
the upsets would be there.
Life alert you.
Whatever.
Wife alert.
Wife alert.
Wife alert.
That's crazy.
Wife alert.
Okay.
No one of those.
You don't want a wife.
Okay.
But not the least too long for that man.
Yeah.
All the rules that y'all have to hear too
when y'all for y'all made it.
There really are, there's really,
there's not that many rules.
There are.
There's like, there's, there's one specific rule
and that's kind of, there are.
You know, and all the, all the,
all the mind feels that you have to navigate
being in relationships.
That's right.
Just mind field all over the place.
Yeah, I mean, I was telling Joe,
you know, since we're here,
I was telling Joe about the story
that I heard like a woman like,
you know how women ask you,
they say, well, hey, I don't like the way I look
and, and as a husband,
you might say, baby, look fine.
She got mad because she asked her husband
and he said, baby, look fine.
That's not what I asked you.
I said, I didn't like the way I looked.
Hmm.
We, that's a no in situation for y'all
being in relation, being married and stuff
because no matter what you say,
you're not answering the question right
because you're not giving her what she wants.
She wants validation for, you know,
her saying what she said.
But even if you give her validation.
To lose, lose.
Yeah, you're going to, she's going to say,
well, what's wrong with the way I look?
So, you know, I don't feel like
planning those mind games.
I'm too old for that, man.
So yeah, I'm, I'm going to probably be
in this space for a while.
What space is that?
This, this, this space where the single space.
Single, single, single, single space.
All right, let's go to the phone lines here.
We got Buddy and Akron up on WIP.
Hey, Buddy.
Hey, good afternoon, guys.
What's up?
Buddy, what's up?
So, you know, I want to stand in line
with you here.
Hold in line, Buddy.
I can't, I can't stand in that line
because you're in a different line.
You're in a VIP going into the stadium.
I'm in a regular people line, right?
I think, I think in this case,
Buddy, we all in the same line.
Like, you know, I mean, there's no,
there's no distinguishing between VIP or, or, you know,
the, the, the common people line
because we're all trying to believe in AJ Brown
and he's all making us all look.
Yeah, we're walking the plank here, Buddy.
And there's the shark and festive waters underneath.
He's humble.
He's in that special line.

I was pointing right towards Gillette Stadium.
And I'm sitting there.
No, I don't want to get your route up
because you got me route up a couple of weeks ago.
And at Stadium has a trophy in there
that I'm only speaking for myself,
but there's a Nashrick on that trophy
from Super Bowl.
And oh, four, and you know what?
I don't want it for me.
I would love it for all the eagles that deserve that one, I believe.
But I wouldn't trade our two Super Bowl trophies
where not one of theirs, but not all six.
Well, the one, I mean, of course,
because they're special here.
Especially 17, the first one,
and last year beating the cheese.
Yeah, I mean, every, every Super Bowl,
especially on its own way,
but you know, buddy, here's my thing.
I don't like the Patriots.
No one likes the Patriots,
but I especially don't like AJ Brown
forcing his way to the Patriots.
It's annoying.
Yeah, I'm just disappointed in them.
I feel like I remember seeing in Goodfellas
when Henry comes back to Polly.
Polly hands him some money and he looks at him and goes,
now I'm going to have to turn my back on him.
And I feel like I feel like that's where the fans are heading with him.
Oh, I think, buddy, I think you're right.
You said this earlier on the show.
I think that the longer this continues,
the more when it ends,
it's his legacy here is going to be changed over this.
It's unfortunate because he was, he's been a good eagle.
Really good.
Yeah, I loved it here, you know.
I did too.
Our buddy, are you ready for your matchup in the bracket of use?
Yes, sir.
All right, let's do it.
Let's go back our final matchup,
tipping off in the actor region.
We have the number 11 seed,
Scrooge Mcouglass, who, of course,
surround Christmas time is grumpy.
Money grab.
Yep.
And then the number 6 seed,
this one came on in a big way about a month ago.
When we made a bet,
to go to a very expensive restaurant in Philadelphia,
Lebeck Finn,
neither know.
Of course, it's been closed for 12 years.
Lebeck Finn, Douglas,
or Scrooge Mcouglass,
who do you like, buddy?
Oh, I'm pulling on this one.
I'm pulling towards that,
but Scrooge, I'm going with Scrooge.
Scrooge!
I'm like, what do you call the pennies?
Wow.
That's kind of his pennies,
especially by Christmas time.
I'm telling you, this is beyond madness,
buddy, good focus.
So,
the listeners today have voted in a 12 seed,
a 13,
and 11,
a 14, a 10,
a 12,
and an 11.
That's right.
That's a hell of a,
hell of a side of the bracket.
I mean, the,
yeah, that is...
That was a tough bracket.
Wow, yeah.
And Scrooge Mcouglass does advance.
They won the vote on Twitter too.
Goodbye, LeBeck Finn.
Hardly knew you.
We did. We did hardly know LeBeck Finn.
You didn't get a chance.
It was a good couple days of LeBeck Finn.
It was, it was a big deal when you,
when you, when you did that.
That's my favorite analogy he's ever ever put in.
It came out of nowhere.
Yeah.
Why did that pop up?
But it popped up.
My favorite was when people didn't realize the joke
for a couple days they were calling Kyle.
Oh, my goodness.
They know that restaurant close.
That part was not as fun.
Yes, a lot of times I know that.
They don't think that we're at self-aware,
but what a most part we're at.
It's probably because of your self-awareness.
Yeah, yeah.
That's good.
It's good to Dylan up in Jersey.
What's up, Dylan?
Good morning, guys.
Good morning, Dylan.
It is 1.13 DM.
Good morning, whatever.
Dead on my bed, my bed.
All right, I got to apologize to Hugh and OG Wade.
I was one of those people.
And I thought, who was OG Wade?
Would you thought I was pregnant?
I apologize.
I was having a baby.
Would you thought I had like, like,
that shot?
That's the shot it actually.
No, I'll keep my dog, but, but it's like, dude,
I'm working hard on this to keep this thing tight.
You know what I mean?
And I'm like, that's kind of an insult, little bit.
Wow.
This is fun.
I apologize, my bed.
All right.
And then I realized when I called you guys yesterday,
I went back to back, you know,
calling you guys.
I actually showed my age with the out-and-front,
with the no-grass Douglas.
You remember Facebook Douglas?
Man, Crack was a great high.
I remember that was the thing.
Oh, yeah.
That's a good one.
That was very early in the show.
Crack is like a great high.
Yep.
And then also, I'm sorry, I'm thinking.
Don't today, Warner.
Yeah, I've been here for a while,
and I just started calling.
I want to push next year.
My name's going to be on that bracket
for call over the year.
Again, different show.
Hey, listen, I know what.
I know we're intertwined, but that's kind of great.
The lobbying on our show as a mid-day show call.
Yeah, well, you know what?
Listen, there's a lot of talk of things being stolen.
So, hell, we might, we might as true.
We might take the mid-day show call over the year.
That's real.
Yep.
I mean, Dylan, you'll be on that for sure.
Oh, thank you.
I appreciate that.
And then I also want to touch on AJ Brown.
I think, I think the Eagles should be petty too,
and just post his contract.
But it'd be like, just stick it there,
right on their social media.
I mean, you can see what his contract.
I look like, you know, thank you.
No, you can't see what his contract looks like.
That is publicly available.
To the Eagles, these to the Eagles,
is what I'm saying.
So, they're all doing that petty stuff
with the wank.
There are elements retweet,
and I just think, you know,
that we could be petty too.
And just like you,
petty too, petty Eagles.
I like it.
And we, and I listen, I'm at the point now
where I'm just annoyed at this whole thing.
So, let's do it.
All right, Dylan, are you ready for your matchup
in the bracket of use?
Yes.
Yes, I am.
All right, let's go to the pop-hop region.
The number three seed, appropriately named pop-hop Douglas.
Against the number 14 seed, Coach Hube,
when he went out and helped de-jax team,
Delaware State, number three seed,
or number 14.
Who you got, Dylan?
If this was a football game,
it would be 50 to zero,
because pop-hop Douglas, B-D-A.
Love it.
The great call, Dylan.
Dylan, appreciate it, man.
No, wow.
And Dylan's becoming a good car.
Dylan's, yes.
And he, I mean, he reminds me of the crack.
It's like a crack like that.
I, I actually forgot.
It was an analogy, wasn't it?
I mean, I don't know.
I mean, it was a crack.
I don't know.
I wonder why you said it now.
It's not an analogy.
Moking crack is like a great high.
What, what could you have been?
And I'm not just saying.
What, what could have been the analogy?
I don't know, but it was something about smoking crack.
And I mean, yes, I'm thinking it was like,
smoking crack is a great habit.
I ain't trying to find it out.
But I was smoking crack.
That was the one when you tell it.
You know, you tell the lies.
That was your, that was your excuse
for having an affair at the Coldplay concert.
Yeah.
Listen, when your life is on the line like that,
you gotta, listen, you for all,
you gotta, you gotta do what you gotta do.
That lady was in the news the other day.
I forget what I saw.
I saw her.
Yeah, they brought it back up.
The story was real.
The story was real.
The story was real.
Well, they were talking about.
Isn't it pretty obvious what happened there?
That feels kind of unfair to them.
By the way, did you guys pick it up?
It was towards the end of the last segment.
But we had a new scorpion in the frog.
Our caller tried to throw to us the emperor's new clothes.
Do you guys know that fable?
Well, all right, I have it here.
The emperor's new clothes.
It's a classic folktale by Hans Christianson Anderson
about a vain emperor who loves new clothes more than anything.
And two swindlers who trick him into believing they've woven
his magical invisible fabric
that only the stupid or unfit can't see.
During a royal procession,
everyone pretends to see the magnificent clothes
out of fear until a child blurt's out
that the emperor is naked revealing the truth
to the entire kingdom.
The story is about moral,
the story's moral is about vanity, honesty.
And the courage to speak truth even when it's on popular.
I like that one.
Yeah, that's kind of how I do every day.
Speak true.
Be droppin' size every day even when I get rid of cue for.
Is that you spun this to yourself?
No, I mean, I felt the kindred spirit with the story
and the analogy of the story.
So yeah, I mean, if it's about me, if it's about me,
if the shoe fit, then you know.
It did make me think about what's the difference
between showing your whole ass and your ass out.
Yeah, ass out, showing your ass.
Showing your ass is good, right?
Yeah, yeah, we just show your ass out.
Yeah, you don't want your ass out.
So Jack had his ass out.
Yeah, Jack.
And Joe showed his whole ass, right?
That's what happened, that's what happened.
Yeah, something's happened.
Speaking of, wasn't Joe supposed to moon Jack?
Well, I don't know what that was.
That was a little boring.
Glad he didn't, first of all.
That's a, that's a bridge what they say is a bridge too far.
They were in public.
Yeah, that's, you know, well, not just that.
There are 20,000 people on YouTube.
I mean, that's a way to destroy the whole thing.
That is true.
No more events of Joe does that.
Yeah, well, that would kind of put a damper on it.
It's a disgusting act.
They would have destroyed that.
Oh, it's good to Joe and Audubon.
I want to talk some glizzies with you here.
What's up, Joe?
How are you doing?
Good Joe.
What's up?
Hey, so you guys are talking about a hot hole
and you said he couldn't do it now.
But I bet you, when he played, he could eat nine hot holes
in nine years.
I'm going to tell you a little story.
I was actually a friend with Jerome Brown.
He was in the cars.
I know he was a big prime of the cars back in the day too.
I don't know if it's noticed.
Anyway, before a day, he did it against the giants
or the jets.
I forget which one it was.
Jerome said, Joey, go up to the concession stand.
I don't know, man, because I've always been kind of, you know,
my stomach been a little sensitive, especially to a lot of yeast and stuff.
That's a lot of bloat with the bread and the beer.
Did you use to eat more in general, though?
Not really.
No.
Not really.
I would try to eat more, even when I eat now, try to eat more protein
and try to eat lean meats and stay away from breads a whole lot.
Except not glizzies, not glizzies.
I got a lot of big people in my family, man.
And it's like, if I eat bread a lot of bread, I blow up like a tick.
Like, so I'm cool, I'm real for real.
Now, I understand that.
Hey, you still owe me a detailed job, by the way.
A detailed?
Yeah.
When you're in your first, and your last 10, you're here before you went to Atlanta.
I don't know if you remember.
You did this bit because like Dr. Hughes, Boogie Clinic, or something like that.
And I just got a 600 to say, I mean, I'm telling you, it's two days old.
And you started this bit, man.
I just forget a couple of coffee.
And I spit the coffee all over the interior of the car.
So it's my fault.
Dude, you're dead, right?
He owes you. He owes you here.
Wait a minute. I think I know you're talking about.
Didn't that had to be on the morning show.
Wasn't somebody giving away some free boobies for somebody?
Like that was back in the day.
One of the sponsors was one of the one of your sponsors.
It's like a press dog vacation doctor right back.
Yes.
But you guys are doing a bit, man.
And it was so funny, you know, I'm telling you, I spit coffee all over the car.
I said it was old.
Yeah, we'll play Manjolo for that one, but Joe, we can't do that.
Yeah, he doesn't want to pay.
I mean, you know that.
All right, Joe, are you ready for your matchup in the bracket of Hughes?
I'm definitely out.
All right, let's go to the pop-up region.
Number seven seed game.
You, of course, when he plays his video game,
then he says the word I don't like when he says on the air.
The clan.
Yeah, when he hangs out with that.
Right.
And he goes, the number seven seed goes against the number 10 seed.
Messi, and he's usually pretty messy on the air.
Seven seed gamer, who 10 seed, Messi, who Joe, who should move on?
I'm a gamer, and I'm going to go with Gamers, you, uh, I'm 58 fold.
And I still game something going with Gamers.
All right, love it, Joe.
Great phone call, great story.
Gamers, you, we are reaching the conclusion of you not winning its poll.
Oh, okay, I'm going to clean that up.
Yes, we have some scores to settle.
Okay, well, that's why we have the Twitter polls, right?
They help settle the ties and all that kind of stuff.
And, and of course, your votes on all this 215, 592, 94,
not if we'll get to everyone's phone call, come over to this side.
We'll, we'll finish the match.
