With the New Year upon us, there's no better time to take control of your finances.
Follow and listen to Jill on Money, wherever you get your podcasts.
We're going to rebuild them.
I thought it was Alaska.
I figured it out.
It was a terrible thing.
The reality hit in the last year.
She didn't listen to us.
She waited until somebody else told you.
Well, I don't tend not to want to believe you at times, because I know it irritates you.
We were telling you this shouldn't believe you.
I don't tell you the truth every day.
Well, when we tell you you can't sail from Philadelphia to the right to Alaska, you've got
to stay with something you can just visualize.
You shouldn't have been to us.
No, you know what it was.
Because I was like, wait a minute.
It's over there.
It's over there.
I know the geography stuff is questionable around here at times.
But that was about.
I was like, wait, Alaska.
No, you can't.
You're not sailing from Philadelphia to Alaska.
It's just a lot of land in the way here.
If you're a destination for the boat.
We can go to Canada.
Sure we can go to Canada.
Yeah.
We'll go vacation to Canada though.
Now, before all that, we probably should show up at McGurks in Horsham tomorrow.
No, we're doing that tomorrow.
Yeah, that's 6-8-6-P tomorrow.
Elliot at the free.
Oh, I'm about to get it.
I'm about to get on a boat.
To Horsham.
Not to Horsham.
But I want to do the boat.
Let's get on a boat to Horsham tomorrow.
I'm going to do the boat this summer.
Because they told me right now it was only going.
Somebody told me they only go on to Bermuda.
But I'm going to do the boat thing.
I want to do the boat.
Well, we had a blue jeans came in here in the break.
It suggested that you wear a sailor hat the day before he leaves for his cruise.
So we're workshopping that one.
All right, 2-1-5-5-9-2.
94-94.
As it always happens in our show, we get carried away right before we bring on a guest.
Who's waiting?
Devon came here joining us to talk some Eagles free agency.
And of course, the Phillies extending the contract of Haysu, Slasardo.
Devon, how you doing today?
Dev was going out.
What's up, guys?
Look, Hugh, if you need a partner to find a boat and somehow make our way to Alaska,
I'm in.
I'm in.
I will be co-captain with you.
I volunteer.
We're going to have to probably take a couple weeks off.
We're going to get to that's the case.
It might take half a year.
But we can.
Let's go take a minute.
Let's go take a minute.
Let's go take a minute.
The new Lewis and Clark over here.
Discovering the West.
All right, Devon.
Where are you at on Eagles free agency?
Yesterday was.
And obviously not unexpected.
I think if you had asked people before yesterday, do we think we're going to lose Phillips
or blanketship or the Kobe?
I think most people would have said yes.
It's just.
It's kind of stark for me when we lose all those guys.
And so far we have added.
No one yet.
No one.
Where are you at on Eagles free agency so far?
Yeah, I mean, it's to be expected.
I'm honestly a little bit shocked by the negative reaction that I've seen so far.
And honestly, you know, heard on on WIP so far today.
This was always going to be what's going to happen when you draft well.
It's honestly the consequence of drafting well.
And you know, we talk about this pendulum that swings and how he roseman even alluded to this when he spoke after the season ended.
Where, you know, the Eagles had.
Have one of the most expensive offenses in the league and one of the cheapest and youngest defenses in the league.
And now that pendulum has to kind of switch and they have to start paying a lot of these guys on defense.
Unfortunately, when you have so many young guys who you drafted need to get paid.
You have to make sacrifices and you have to determine the great players from the good players.
And unfortunately, I think yesterday we saw the result of them having to make sacrifices.
And they can't refine a good player, a very good player in the co-beating, in read blank and ship, in jihad and dots.
And I think Jalen Phillips, of course, they thought that they might be able to get him.
But his contract was just an absurd amount of money.
And with cap restrictions and limitations, it just wasn't going to happen.
So it looked, I know that we all like to say, oh, how he sees and how he sees it.
You know, let him cook.
But they're not going to do anything here.
So I'm just curious to see what he does in the coming days and also just leading up to the draft and then, of course, on draft night.
Evan, you're thought on Dallas Goddard, who's the one, you know, the four big Eagles free agents were out there.
And I think most of us thought we were going to lose a couple if not three, if not maybe all four.
Now, Dallas is the only one still available.
They have almost nothing at tight end right now.
What's your thought on the likelihood they try to bring Dallas Goddard back for one more year?
Because if they don't, they really have a lot of work to do with that position, whether it be free agency or the draft.
I think it's more likely than people get a credit for like, I could see a scenario where he's back.
I could also see many scenarios where he's not.
But like you just said, they have no one at tight end right now.
And I also think it's kind of crazy that the narrative that has been going on around Dallas Goddard.
And I felt this way last off season as well, you know, before he resigned for another year where people talk about Dallas Goddard.
Like he's just some average tight end.
Like he literally just set the single season record for touchdowns this past year.
Like he was an integral part of this offense that wasn't working for the majority of the season.
Dallas Goddard was the one piece that was.
I know that he left a lot to be desired when it comes to blocking.
But when you look at tight ends these days, the majority of them are not good at blocking.
Like that's not their strength.
They're essentially, you know, big-bodied wide receivers for the most part.
So unless there's another tight end that they know they can get in this draft or in free agency, that's also an incredible blocker.
I mean, I don't really know what other option they have.
I know Elliott reported, I believe it was last week, a couple of weeks back, that the Eagles have interest in David and Joku.
I think that's also a great option, but you know, you need more than one tight end.
So Dallas Goddard is a valuable player.
And I would be excited if he were to refine with the Eagles, even if it were just for another year.
Yeah, I would too, Devon, and it gives them at least something.
So even if they want to dress someone in the second or third round, that guy could kind of develop for a year before they become the full-time starting tight end.
All right, so the Eagles didn't do anything yesterday, but the Phillies Devon certainly did.
Five years, $135 million in extension for Jesus Luzardo.
Devon, I love this deal for the Phillies and for him.
You know, for him, he gets some certainty, but for the Phillies, you know, I think we were, if Luzardo had a good year this year,
or a really good year, I think we were looking at him, you know, getting upwards of $200 million in free agency.
So I think the Phillies may have saved themselves some money here, and they locked this guy up.
What do you think of the deal the two parties came to yesterday?
Yeah, I mean, I really liked it, Joe.
I honestly immediately thought of you.
So I believe you guys had a show that was all about how the Phillies should extend Jesus Luzardo, you know, as soon as possible.
And I agree.
I think that for its rough of an off season that Devon Browsey had, this was a smart move, and it's kind of interesting the way it contrasts with, you know, how he rose men and him not, you know, extending guys in season and how that may or may not be backfiring now, or people at least view it that way.
Joe, I know I heard you mentioned something like that at the start of the show where Phillies are getting ahead of it now, not that they're, you know, officially in regular season yet.
But case Luzardo, assuming he's going to have another solid season for the Phillies now, and then we don't know what's going to happen in the 2027 season, that price tag's only going to go up.
So instead of being in a bidding war for and having to pay a lot more than they already just paid him with this extension, they're getting ahead of it.
And now, you know, a back wheeler, not knowing what the deal is going to be with his retirement and your painter, you know, you hope that works out.
You lost Ranger Swarez.
You at least lock up one other lefty in this starting rotation, and he's a young kid.
So he has a bright future ahead of him, and in his press conference, it was just great to hear like he loves playing for the Phillies, he loves the organization.
His all of his teammates showed up to celebrate him and watch him in that press conference, and that was really cool to see.
So yeah, I mean, I think he fits the Phillies and the atmosphere, like he doesn't let the moment get too big for him, which we know can happen in Philadelphia, especially playing in Citizens Bank Park.
He's Luzardo takes it all in stride, so I think it's a great move.
He does, and he seems like he's built for this place, and he leveled up last year.
I'm excited to have him for the next five years.
All right, Devon, let's end with this world baseball classic.
I've enjoyed it so far.
And now we get team Italy and Aaron Nola against the United States tonight.
What are you thinking on?
And have you watched it?
Have you enjoyed it?
What do you think on the world baseball classic?
I have. I've watched it here and there.
I watched the USA, Mexico last night.
I'm really curious.
So I honestly haven't watched too much of Aaron Nola kitchen-wise.
You know, there's only so much you can take away when you're down at spring training,
watching these pictures throw in the bullpen, and watching them warm up.
So I'm really curious to see what Aaron Nola looks like out there,
because he had a rough season last year.
He needs a shove, Devon.
He needs a shove.
I guess this US lineup, he needs a shove, and I understand.
He starts with the USA.
He starts with the USA America.
Yeah, you know.
I think Aaron Nola needs a shot of this preso that Dante Nory and team Italy has been doing
in the dugout after their home runs.
And I think he needs to go out there and get his best stuff, because he's got a...
You got to be ready for the season.
You got to be ready for the season.
Sound in line up, he's pitching against with USA.
So I'm really curious to see what he looks like, but it's been awesome to see
I mean Kyle Schwarber's home run on Saturday night, and that game was incredible.
It honestly just made me so excited for baseball season, which I should be told I'm not really
been, because the Phillies hadn't given me, and I think a lot of fans, a ton of raisins
to be excited for, but watching Kyle Schwarber hit a home run for Team USA was awesome.
So now I'm just waiting on Bryce Harper to get one.
You know what?
I think we all are.
I saw him get a hit Friday, but it's been a pretty quiet World Baseball Classic so far for Bryce.
We'll see if he picks it up.
Devon, we appreciate you hopping on and enjoying the World Baseball Classic,
and we will talk to you soon.
Have a good one.
Yep.
You guys.
There she goes.
Depp and Kenny here on the Phillies and the Eagles.
Yeah, she brought up Bryce at the end.
Bryce Harper, so far in the World Baseball Classic, 3 of 14, 527 OPS.
Now, these games get magnified to you because they are, it's a tournament, right?
They.
Now, typically, at this time of the year, they're just in spring training.
We're probably not following the stats day to day.
It's like whatever, you know, it's in spring training.
Any concern that Harper is not off to a hot start?
Not really.
Okay.
I mean, you know, you would want, you want to try it because you remember when trade went, the year we went, he went crazy.
He went crazy and then he came back and he was killing me.
Yeah.
You got it.
That's one of those things, man, where you don't, you don't want to, uh,
it's the word I'm looking for.
You don't want to overreact?
Yeah.
I guess that's a good one.
Have you ever felt like you were living just a B or B plus life?
He's so dangerous to live that more dangerous than a B minus or a C plus life because when you're living a B or B plus life, you don't change it.
You think it's good enough?
Is it?
I'm Susie Welch.
I host a podcast called Becoming You.
People think, okay, an A plus life is not available to me, but there is a way.
We are all in the process of becoming ourselves.
Listen to Becoming You, wherever you get your podcasts.
Where are you going to say?
None.
You don't want to, uh, none.
None.
You don't want to waste your energy in March.
Yeah, basically.
That works.
Yeah.
That works.
Or you just stay hot the whole time.
I know.
I know.
You're the guy that puts spring training game one on the counter.
I know.
This guy's unbelievable.
I'm trying.
This guy's unbelievable.
I'm trying.
I had to get in trouble, dawg.
I'll be there.
But do you think if Bryce Harper hits a home run against Mexico, he's going to be out of gas in the office?
You just don't, you just don't know.
You just want to make sure that you're getting locked in and you want to save.
You want to save the stuff for the city.
This is, this is for a champion.
This is the world-based complicit.
This is the money on this thing.
Well, yeah.
I mean, yeah.
But see, this is where listening to y'all give me a trouble.
Because when I said, I asked you about Puerto Rico.
No, Dominican.
No, Dominican Republic.
I always get it mixed up.
Well, that's probably why.
But when I asked you, I was saying to appreciate that.
Oh, no, you're American.
You can't do that because you're from America.
That's not what we said.
Yeah, it's something like that.
No, we put money on it.
Y'all kind of gave me, y'all kind of gave me grief when I was talking about putting on Dominican Republic.
No, no, no.
We had some Dominican Republic.
Oh, y'all hit.
But see, when I was talking about doing it.
I think you're making this up.
I ain't making it up.
I ain't making it up.
Hold on.
Hold on.
You had had a gummy.
Yeah, you were.
You were in a different state.
Yeah, I remember the gummy.
I remember the gummy.
But I remember the conversation, too, because y'all had a fist.
I bet on America and the Dominican Republic.
Are you going to go against America?
I'm like, dude, I'm trying to get some money for football season.
What you talking about?
I was trying to get some money for football season.
I was going to bet like $5.
You have all baseball season to get through.
Okay.
Yeah.
Y'all owe me.
I need some money.
Why?
Because y'all kind of owe me.
You can't confusing Puerto Rico in the DR.
I did.
Okay.
We got dinner at Lebeck Finn.
You already got that.
I'm going to splurge that.
We know.
We're going to cruise from US to Alaska.
We're going to Bermuda.
Because you can get there from Philadelphia.
Yeah.
We can do that.
But that's like a week.
So I got to take like a week.
Okay.
Sing it.
I'll take you way?
I'll pull you throughout the boat.
Where are you going?
You know what I'm playing for this.
You can get back no more.
You can get back no more.
What?
Howdy.
When he signs no one.
Yeah.
You're singing, and you're talking about sailing away.
No, I'm just excited about sailing out of Philadelphia on a cruise.
I know.
But if we had landed a star player we'd be talking about that?
The Eagles didn't.
No, they could.
The Eagles didn't know.
Now he was a vacation boot.
No, I'm just saying.
Get ready to get ready for this vacation. We get what we take it before the season start
We're gonna crew shredding season shredding season. So you're gonna take the ozappi before you get on that
We get on that boat that old zippie ladies you better watch out their shirt off. Uh-uh. Uh-uh. Uh-uh. Let's go
I want to pop it. Let's go to shoot in mind is for what's up? Shoot
Good afternoon gentlemen. How would you shoot a shoot? What's up?
So I wasn't gonna call in today and then
We got the huge clues answer and it just so happens that I am taking a trip myself
to Alaska next week and of course I'm flying because you know
Cruises don't come out of Philadelphia or you know anywhere on the east coast and
You know I was prepared
What a hot-up shoot. Did you taking a shot? It is a cruise. It's it leaves out of the navy art
It's a cruise from Philadelphia that leaves out of the navy
Yeah, but it doesn't go to the other side of the country. No, but it's a cruise though
Yeah, there's lots of cruises here, but Alaska's far away. I have lots of land time today
Crews are not a Philadelphia. You will ask a double and only Alaska. They never know. I'm not okay
Maybe not a lie. Maybe you should drop them maybe not Alaska. Maybe a cruise, but not a last. Okay
One time, but all day I've been I've been hitting the mic on that you do for now. You do for it out
And this has been it out
generation of rum is over
Super sorry. He was just taking that was left and right
Concerned that I was have to gonna have to drop like a like a fourth grade-ish
You know geography lesson on Hugh Douglas. Hey, you know what soup? It wouldn't have bothered me not man bit would not have bothered me
You see it now and you you you understand it now, but I have planned on telling you guys from Alaska
But now I have more of a reason to
You I share that with you that I've always wanted to go and now I'm finally going and hopefully I'll tell you some things about
So so what do you do you have like an itinerary? Are you going by yourself?
Yes, so I'm going into a cabin in the middle of the woods
Completely by myself just to get away from everyone and everything. Are you serious? Sounds awesome
I mean I mean the idea of getting away from everything seems seems cool to me
Get away get away. I understand you want to get away, man, but I suggest you going on a cruise
May you got to take some good a witchy. Mm-hmm gotta take some good maybe he'll meet someone on the on the cruise
Up in Alaska. I mean a part of mark the going up there. You know trouble for that
So it only has an area along the hiking and everything
We get this is a sports top show let me get to my sports point
Fears too far off. I guess they're a soft guys. I mean it I
Feel like every time I looked at my phone when I got the ESPN notification
It's another defensive player has been rated from this team that won the Super Bowl two years ago and was a great defense last year
Now obviously this is fluid
I mean we have the draft and we have the rep the free agency to go and we could get some good moves in here
But if if we're going just off of yesterday, I mean it sucked, you know, and I'm just waiting for the the notification on God
Or the notification on AJ just something to come down that we're we're losing somebody else
But yeah, now yesterday sucked and you know he I'm sorry, but we can go to all the rodeos
He wants where whatever whatever I do not care. I don't care
No, I don't care about the American dream. You I don't care about the American dream
Should you live in America dream? You're going you're going to stay in a cabin for I don't know how long by yourself in Alaska
That's pretty that's pretty dope, but that doesn't make the Eagles defense any better than it was
Yeah, yeah, yeah, okay, give it time shoot good phone call. We appreciate it. I'm glad shoot said that no, but I can't I can't feel better because
Reblanket ships gonna go to a rodeo
Of course the rodeo the rodeo is on for like a month
It's wonderful and it is warm couldn't you have gone to the rodeo as an eagle?
It's a little different when you you know you go as you know with a little bit of money you're pocket now
You got some you got some money you couldn't afford to go to the road
No, he got some bread now. I have bread bread. Well, he does and he and that's good for him
All right 215 592 94 94. Yes, happy for the guys that got their money yesterday
But it was not good day for the Eagles just for just bottom line
It wasn't a good day and it's skewed more to bat and the Eagles
The way I view it is I'm not surprised in and vacuum any of these players left
I am waiting for the first eagle signing the Goddard thing is now extra interesting because we're gonna lose another good football player
And it feels to me like how he roseman has a really big amount of work to do this offseason and we could point to the draft
We could point to the draft and the draft is certainly a very big part of how they want to build this thing
But point it feels like a lot we're putting on the draft here a lot for this draft coming up and future drafts
It's you know
I think of the best years Eagles have had in the last 20 and the best years
They typically have is when they they have a core
But then they supplement with also big free agents whether they are big names or big impact and we went through day one
A free agency with zero two one five five nine two ninety four nine four all right
We'll get to your phone calls coming up. I'm sure he will tell us about more places
He's planning to sail to the summer and
We got to get to in the one o'clock hour around up of all the big names including what's going on the NFC West the Rams and Niners
There's a load and up for this coming season
But also a very interesting name the Eagles are being linked to at a position
That I didn't expect them to be linked to a player and if they do go get this player
It's like what were we doing yesterday? What what is the plan at this position?
This one's gonna surprise you we saw a report. We want to talk about it next
It turns a position and a player of the Eagles could be targeting two one five five nine two ninety four nine four
