โรคหอบหืด โรคที่ทุกคน ทุกเพศและทุกวัยเป็นได้หมด เกิดจากการอักเสบเรื้อรังของหลอดลม ทำให้เยื่อบุและผนังหลอดลมตอบสนองต่อสิ่งกระตุ้นจากภายใน และจากสิ่งแวดล้อมมากกว่าปกติ ทำให้หายใจไม่สะดวก มีเสียงหวีด เหนื่อย หอบ ไอเรื้อรัง แน่นหน้าอก โดยเฉพาะตอนกลางคืนและช่วงเช้ามืด
แม้ไม่ใช่โรคติดต่อ แต่ส่งต่อทางพันธุกรรมได้ ที่สำคัญหากมีอาการรุนแรงเช่น หายใจไม่ออกจนร่างกายไม่สามารถนำออกซิเจนเข้า แล้วเอาคาร์บอนไดออกไซด์ออกจากร่างกาย จะเกิดระบบหายใจล้มเหลว จนถึงขั้นหมดสติและเสียชีวิตในที่สุด อะไรที่ทำให้เกิดโรคนี้ ใครคือกลุ่มเสี่ยงบ้าง รักษาอย่างไร
