And this coming from a poll by his teammates. From the first part of the show, Eric me and Jeannie just respected the Ravens and the more Jackson again, just weird offsties and tore for Eric me and Jeannie in terms of the Ravens hate. It feels like so. We'll talk about all that with Sam coming up. But I do want to take a minute to obviously talk about today. It's a day of remembrance and just remember all of the brave heroes from the response here on September 11th, obviously to also remember the people who were not able to be here today because of it. So I send Mike and Dolan's thoughts and prayers to everybody who was affected and it's a terrible

3:08tragedy. It's a day of remembrance to reflect and remember all the heroes who were on the first responders and everybody who helped out that day. Again, as well as the people who are unable to be here because of it. So I just wanted to say that here before we got into our football content, without any further ado, let's get into our Ravens conversation. Let's see, I'm in joke. Sam, man, I mean, look, I've been saying it's been Purple Friday all off season, but this is the real deal. I like purple Friday to the off season. He has purple Friday, but it's a different time for Friday. This is the real deal stuff here. Raven's about to kick off and I'm so excited. Kevin, we made it. We made it to purple Friday, the real purple Friday, which means there's a game this weekend. It's been a long time coming. A lot of changes, but I'm excited for some football, some Ravens football upcoming very soon. I'm so happy. I'm so happy. It's been a long off season. A lot of change, lots of storylines.

4:10And we've gone through it all to get to the real deal football. So let's talk about that a little bit more as the show goes on. But Sam, for the season, we still are. Just a couple days away and people are still making predictions. And Eric Manjini, former NFL head coach, who has had some weird things to say about the Ravens, this is the fact that we're thinking about the Ravens over the last couple of months. He has not stopped as Eric Manjini ended up revealing his predictions for his AFC playoff teams. Now look, I'll say there's half the bet. There are probably nine or 10 teams in the AFC that realistically have a chance to make the postseason. I think it's a very deep conference, but there's no team like the Rams, or I don't know if I should be saying that after the last night's game because Ramsen looked great, but I still think like there's not that upper echelon team in the AFC. Now Eric Manjini, Sam, his playoff predictions. I don't think this is any in any particular order.

5:11Yes, not seated, but Eric Manjini, his AFC playoff teams, the Patriots, the Bengals, the Texans, the Chargers, the Broncos, the Chiefs, and the Vils. No Ravens in there. So again, I'll say it again. Lots of teams in the AFC that are going to be worthy of playoff spots this year, but I will say this. It is egregious to not have the Ravens on this list over some of these teams. I want to hear your thoughts on it before I get my thoughts on it because if everything goes right for the Ravens and they stay healthy, I cannot imagine any world where they don't make the postseason. Yeah, they're postseason bound. Unless there's not going to be a serious injury to a key player or two, this is a team that is destined to make the postseason. The schedule is in their favor. The new defensive coordinator slash head coach and Jesse Mentor. Let's include Anthony Weaver in that pick as well. They're just too good on both sides of the ball for them not to be considered to be a

6:13playoff team. Now, if you want to get into who's going to win the division, I still lean heavily towards Baltimore, but I get the notion that the Bengals have a shot because they do have the easiest schedule in the National Football League of coming. To not have them on the schedule is a gregious now, a gling for Manjini. It's going to be him kind of leaning on what happened last season like all these opponents are doing like all these analysts continue to do, but this is not the same team as last year. They're going to find out very quickly, but they need to get with the program because the Ravens are definitely a postseason team. Yeah, I just I can't understand the reasoning. Well, Chris Broussard asked him about this and Eric Mangini literally he was, he knew that this was coming because he made it a point after saying all the teams say, he said, quote, here's what I'll say about the Ravens who he said, Hey, Brue, you notice the Ravens aren't up there. This is over on first things first. So he was with Chris Broussard and Nick Wright and et cetera, et cetera. Eric Mangini said, quote, here's what I'll say. I was dead wrong on the Ravens last year. I predicted them to go to the Super Bowl. So I'm probably dead wrong about them now.

7:15So you should probably bet against me on this one. I'm giving the bills to not over the Ravens to get that final playoff spot. First of all, say it with your chest if you're going to say it. Like, stand 10 toes down. I don't know if you're going to do it. Like, don't be like, oh, no, like actually you can bet against me. I'm probably wrong. No, okay, you did it. So now you got to stand on it. Like, don't do that. And then Chris Broussard ended up asking him, see, he said to Eric Mangini, quote, I've got the Ravens winning it. Nick Scott, the Miss number one seed. I think Mentor's really good. I think Lamar's back. Do you think he's washed or last year was signing these declining or what's your reasoning for not liking the Ravens? And Eric Mangini said, quote, it's not that I don't like the Ravens. I'm not sure how it's going to work with the new offensive coordinator. I do struggle with the idea of changing things up dramatically for a guy that's won the MVP twice. And you're asking to do a bunch of a bunch of things that he hasn't done well over time. Maybe that'll make him better, but he's pretty good right now. So there's going to be a learning curve there offensively. I mean, sure, there's going to be a learning curve. They're going to be growing pains. I think, but like not so much that they missed the postseason all together.

8:15And like, what things is Eric Mangini referring to that he hasn't done well over time. He's going to be asked to be doing now. He's talking about under center stuff or like all like there isn't anything done on a lot. So I'm not really sure you can say he hasn't done it well. You know, I think that there's just it's a lot of new and new is okay. Change is a risk. I get that. But there are a lot of teams in the AFC and in the NFL that change coaches and I heard first time make coaches and everything. So maybe this is just the hey, Joe Brady was in Buffalo and Jesse Minner wasn't in Baltimore and kind of even though he was. But like now he's back in Baltimore, but he wasn't there is in Los Angeles that year. I don't know. What do you think about this? I think it's a little ridiculous. Eric Lamar Jackson was never on the center throughout his tenure in Baltimore over the last three seasons. He was on the center. I believe it approximately 170 times and he had a pretty decent quarterback rating, pretty decent quarterback completion percentage as well. So this is the guy who's unfamiliar with being on the center. Of course, it's going to increase a bunch. But the same with the case for Caleb Williams.

9:16A lot of these quarterbacks coming in from college, the systems that they're running in college has them, you know, I'm the shotgun a lot of the time because it's very easier to survey the field. Joe Burles, another quarterback who's going through that process as well. He's the guy who's routinely in shotgun formation, but he's going to be a lot more under center this year as they try and get the run game going. So I'm surprised he's having this kind of notion for a guy like Lamar, but not for Joe Burles who's going through exactly the same thing. I'm not really sure where that's coming from. But again, new as you mentioned, Kevin, it's a great thing. It's something that the Ravens need. This offense needs to be more power. They can't lean so much on the run game. So that when teams cheat to stop the run, they have no answers. So this is going to be a way more versatile offense. Yes, it's going to have a March X and maybe out of his comfort zone, at least in the early goings of the season. But this is the good thing for the Ravens. This is a good thing for Lamar. This is going to be an addition to plus a bonus for the Ravens to get to the postseason. Not a negative. Yeah, actually, I'm curious to hear what you think about kind of how the distribution is going to work offensively for them. This year because I think that there does need to be an emphasis on spreading the ball

10:21around more, but you don't want to take targets away from the day flowers. You also don't want to take carries away from Derek Henry. You also want to use the more Jackson's ability built with his arm and with his legs. So do you expect them to be more of a throwing team this year? And maybe it is carries getting taken away from guys? Or do you think that it would be more of an even distribution kind of like more long lines of what we've seen over the last handful of seasons? Do you expect to dress change one or the other kind of status quo for them over the last couple of years? I think all sides point to change. I think there's going to be, I know a lot of people are pecking safe flowers to be. This got to get over a thousand receptions or something crazy like that to get that over 1600 yards or receiving, but this is going to be, I think, an offense where the ball is going to be spread. Not only because Lamar dress is going to have a lot more options, but because the offense is going to be designed to give a lot more players opportunities to get on the field. You're going to see a lot more tight ends on the field than usual and passing situations. Not just running the football. They're going to be running the football 13 personnel, but expect a lot of passing as well. And another thing with the running game, you kind of have a similar situation with last

11:24year where you want Derek and me on the field, but we also want some pass protection that helped Lamar Jackson out during those very significant passing situations where a guy like Justice Hill would then see the field, by the way, during the preseason. It was tell you how highly definitely do all things of them. And maybe a little less in terms of production for Derek Henry in terms of carries, but as far as safe flowers and these other receivers getting a boatload of targets, I think that's going to diminish a little bit because we talk about this all the time. The bear is off in 2025. Everybody got a piece of the pie. Everybody got a chance to show us. So it's going to be a plethora of options for Lamar Jackson to choose from, which is a good thing. But statistically speaking for God's safe flowers, we routinely get loads of targets. I think it may diminish quite a bit. Yeah. And again, I think the change is necessary, but you want to have the ball go in the right places. And I think that you're still going to give a good amount of targets, but at the same time, getting other guys involved will be really good for what this team wants to do in 2026.

15:36Sam, the Ravens put out this poll and you actually brought my attention to this. I didn't know it before you told me and I wanted to talk about it with you because I'm like, all right, no, this is good. We haven't talked about this year. The Ravens did a poll and this poll was breakout player of the year essentially is what this was and it was done not by media not by fans. It was done by the Ravens teammates themselves. So the teammates voted on their teammates about who was going to be the Ravens break out player in 2026 and the winner drum roll. You don't even need one. It's Jacobi lane. All right. It's like Jacobi lane is winning everything this off season. He's balled out and training camp. He's in street clothes and week two of the free season like he's winning everything Jacobi lane the winner of this poll. Seven votes next closest was Trenton Simpson with three will get to him in just a minute or two, but Nate Wiggins a quote from Nate saying, quote, he's a great receiver, great length, great ball skills, great catch radius. He's hard to guard. He's a great ball player Roger Rosengard said, quote,

16:37the way he's going he's going through camp and the energy he had and the place he was making, I think it's a no brainer on offense. John Simpson quote, he has that dog in him. He has that never can be denied mentality. I just feel like he's one of those guys where the more he gets go in the better he gets. He's going to be one to watch for sure. And then Trent Simpson saying he's just been ballin all camp. He just does the things he's been doing in camp is going to be a crazy work year for him like offensive. I'm working the year type things. I'm excited to watch it man. He makes your love and some Jacobi lane as I think a lot of the NFL right now. So is this a shock to you Sam break up where the earth is pretty straightforward. It's not a shock, but I am happy to hear it because again, we steep things a certain way. The media only gets to see the glimpse of what goes on in that facility, especially doing the off season. The fans of course, you know, they listen to mostly what we do media content creators tell them. So it's nice to hear that the players as well are noticing what Jacobi lane is doing. So yeah, I think that he, I mean, the best quote I heard was offensive rookie of the year.

17:37I mean, that's going to take a lot of targets to come as way. It's going to have him be more involved in the offense than I think a lot of people thought when he was drafted initially out of USC. But yeah, this is all good things. It means that lane is definitely being infectious. And I'm very happy for him just because of his personality. I mean, this isn't like co-ion in the league here. This is a guy who's very outspoken, very, very voice-trust. A guy that can come out here and maybe make a name for himself even outside of the football field with endorsements and things of that nature. So very happy for the kid. You got to do it on the field. It starts on Sunday, but you got to love what you're hearing from the players about Jacoby lane. It's there. I don't know if there's been a player with as much hype as Jacoby has had at least from a third. I mean, I said when Jacoby was sitting on, you know, the side of that in the street clothes in this literally like second quarter of a second effort. Preseason game was like, I don't know if there's ever been a third round rookie who has gotten that treatment. Like he is that good or he has at least been that good for the Baltimore Ravens. Now, Trent and Simpson did come in second place here, Sam, with those three votes. And some things that his teammates said about him, Justice Hill said, quote, he's just a freaking nature.

18:43CNN be able to develop over the four years he's been here. I feel like he's finally getting it in his confidence in what he can do with the contract. You're a form and he has a lot of motivation behind him. I feel like he's going to come out and fly around. Test Walker saying, quote, this is up in here. I've seen him develop the chances he's gotten these made an impact. Now he's going into was that that start and roll. I've seen it since high school. I played him in high school and when he was at Clemson and he was a difference maker. I don't think it's going to be too different for him this year. You can see it slowing down for him. And Carson Vincent saying, quote, he's a dog. He had a great camp. I feel like he's going to take off everybody around the Ravens knows who he is. But I feel like he's going to put the league on notice. I want to go back to what test said because he said that you can see it slowing down for him. And I think that's a really big step. You know, Trenton has struggled in some of his opportunities. He has taken advantage of some, but I mean, this is a big contract year for him because I think this is it for Trent. Like if it doesn't work this year, he's not coming back. If it does, I think you have a really nice one to punch and kind of what you envision when you drafted him, essentially to replace Patrick Queen with Roboinsmith and Trent and Simpson there. So what are your expectations for Trent and this season? Because I feel like it varies based off of, you know, how, how people feel about him.

19:47No, I'm in the optimistic realm of Trent Simpson. I mean, athletically speaking, he's, he's the total package. He hasn't been a guy that's slowed down. I've been like, I don't belong here. But the test is point things have been a little too fast for him. He hasn't had a chance to, he has to read and then react instead of just reacting to what's going on. And now hearing that, let's me know, okay, things are slowing down. He doesn't have to think before he pushes through the line or whatever his assignment is. This is the guy that you mentioned the one to punch a real coin. This might not be a one to punch a real coin. He could be replacing real coin next year due to the contract situation. This could be the Teddy B Cannon Trent and Simpson show, which is what I'm sure the Ravens will love to get a little younger on their defense is there. I think they were told as defense in the off season in 2028. I really do like what Trent and Simpson brings to the table. If you could put it all together, he could be the breakout star on the defense side of all that a lot of Ravens fans may not be expecting. I'm really excited for him. And I think honestly, you know, that second linebacker spot

20:48is going to be such an expected position for sure. And I think that Trent and the guy with with his athleticism and the speed and, you know, all of the, I mean, he's a tools guy. And if he can put all those tools together and it does slow down, like Taz is saying, I mean, that is a really, really big deal. I continue on that down this list here. Next up, there was a tie. Three players got two votes in a Rashad Bateman, Banguya Wane, and Keon Martin. So Zey was very complimentary over shot. Bateman, Tavius Robinson gave some compliments on Yawane. Lajana T. Wester and Tija Tampa gave some compliments on Keon Martin. So I think, look, we know who we're shot. Bateman's going to be. We know who Fanguya Wane is going to be. I think we hope we know who those guys are going to be because we've seen the potential from Bateman and what he's been able to do. Yawane obviously is a very safe pick, but Keon Martin's intriguing to me. You know, I think that if everything goes well for the Ravens, he's probably not going to get a ton of flying time overall, but it kind of goes to show the depth that the Ravens have there.

21:50So out of those three guys, Sanvers, anybody that stands out to you or sticks out? I think that there's Rashad Bateman just because I just have this feeling that this is a really, it's not just a make-up brick year. This might be a make-up brick quarter for Rashad Bateman. If he doesn't pull his act and get going and become a contributor, which I think he should be, then we're talking about Jacobi Lane overtaking him. I mean, we just talked about him being a breakout star. If the roles are reversed and we see Jacobi Lane flying off and getting these touchdown grabs and Rashad Bateman is begging for targets or, you know, begging for consistency on the field, this could be a year where we see a shift in dynamics in terms of who's on the field the majority of the time. That's maybe taking away. Fanguya Wane is a guy who I think, you know, this is going to be a big year for him. I mean, he has, he's kind of like Trent and Simpson in a way. You just hope that things slow down from quickly because again, teams are going to do what they did last year. They're going to target the interior of the offensive line until these players prove that they're in upgrade over Angie Voorhees in Daniel Fahlele. So it's going to be up to him to show that he belongs in the National Football League

22:54and be that guy and then Kenyan Martin needs the guy who just needs to get in the field and show that who he is, be consistent. Unfortunately, the numbers game is there. There's a lot of talent to DBs out there for the Ravens. And I'm sure I'm almost positive. Jesse Mendes is going to find a way to utilize him but just getting him on the field consistently, maybe a bit of trouble just because of the numbers at the DB room. Yeah, yeah. I mean, I'll throw those guys, I think, in impact the game in different ways for this Ravens team. And again, it's positional. Like, you know, it's definitely positional. Like, Baton's going to have a big role. Ted's is going to have, well, not Ted's. Maybe there's going to have a big role with, I think, other guys like Chicobe Lane and Ted's Walker kind of filtering in. I think Chicobe is obviously one that Widersie for three spot. But, you know, Ted's a full-terrant in some points, you know, for a guy like Frankie O'Wan, I mean, he's unquestionably to start, but yeah, Kea Martin's like one out of those three that doesn't have a real defined role early on. Others getting votes. Teddy Buchanan, Kiantra Jackson, and he has Peoples, Roger Rosengarde, Malachai Starks, Jalen Hawkins, Mike Greens, Ion Young, Shamba Rivers, Matt Hibner, and Javan Gwen.

23:56I think that does cover it. I mean, is there anybody that I just listed off or that you had in mind of people that you wanted to see on the... Jalen Hawkins is an interesting one because I think that, like, I talk about him, I'm not going to say that. I think he's going to be one of the most underrated, if not the most underrated Ravens players on this roster. I think he's somebody that's really intriguing to me. Yeah, Hawkins is the guy who's going to be featured aplenty on this defense. I'm not sure Ravens fans realize how much of a talent he is and how much he's going to be utilized by Jesse Mentor in this defense. I think Mike Greener, I'm not sure if you mentioned this, Dan. I'm sure you did. If not, he's the guy, but sure that could take that leap forward in terms of production, especially with the guy, like Trey Henderson, opposite him on passing situations. They're going to be keen off on trying to stop Trey Henderson and that one-on-one matchup between Mike Greener and whoever is opposite him is going to be a treat to watch if you're a Ravens fan. So he's the guy that I'm looking at very closely, actually early on in the year when you're playing not so great talents as far as passers go. He could be a guy that can come in and make an influence on very quickly. I love the way this roster is constructed.

24:56I absolutely love it. So a plan to look forward to for the Baltimore Ravens. And obviously, you're looking forward to the game on Sunday here for the Ravens. I know I am for this Ravens and Colts game and we can also come up. Sam, we talked about it last week, I just, I couldn't wait. We had to talk a little bit about the game you and I even though it was more than a week away. Now we are just days away. And we talked about it on the Lockdown Ravens squad show you and I and Patrick Smail as well. There are also plenty of other conversations we had across over Thursday, yesterday here with Lockdown Colts. Now that we're just a couple days away, his any feeling changed for you about how this game could go, how you feel about it and is there anything that kind of catches your eye in terms of matchups? The matchup that's going to define this game is definitely going to be Jonathan Taylor versus

27:59the linebackers here. The defensive front, the Ravens wreak some havoc, sure. But I do like the offensive line of the Colts and I think it's going to be Jonathan Taylor getting to that second level of the defense and guys like Rook Consmith, guys like Trans Simpson who we just talked about are going to be the guys that's going to have to slow him down, keep him through yards and under. Or Daniel Jones will have to toss the football in third and long situations, let this pass stretch do what they do best. But early on, you know, with the additional tree Henderson, the Colts are going to try their best, take the pace of the game with the run, keep the pass rushes at bay, maybe run into tree Henderson. So Patrick is going to have to be a guy that proves that he can do more than just rush the passer because I know they're going to design runs, his way to test them. But that's going to be the matchup. On the opposite side of the ball, I'm not too worried. I think the offense, maybe they struggle a little bit, maybe they slow a little bit because we've seen with a couple of other teams so far with play that the offense has spotted a little bit in the early games, especially teams that don't play much in the free season, which the Lamar Jackson and the Ravens did not. So if that offense can get going, great. If not, then they're going to have to lean

28:59on the defense to slow things down. So I'm not too concerned. I think that this is a great matchup for the Ravens, a great first test, but that run defense did was, OK, I think they were top 10 last year, but at times struggled with the, I remember that Lions game, David Montgomery, and Jim Air Gibbs had a field day, but again, that was the time without Nanymata B. Gay, without another guy next to him to kind of take away the pressure that comes with having Travis Jones by himself. So I like this a lot. Jonathan Taylor, slow him down. That's going to be the key to the game. I'm really excited for this game because I think it's a perfect landing spot for Baltimore in week one, because I think it is a good football team that is not too good at football team. And again, like you want to play the best and beat the best, to be the best and all that, they're going to have plenty of opportunities for that over the course of their schedule. And I think after how the last two years have gone in terms of starting O-2, almost O-3 in 2024, they were one in five last year. They need a fast start. And I think this is a great test for the Ravens. The team that you cannot take lightly, they have talent on both sides of the football, absolutely. But I do think for Indianapolis, they got a lot of guys back off

30:03of injury. There are going to be questions about how there are, can these guys fit in, how are they looking after their injuries. But the Colts last season, they weren't a great past defense. There were 20th and leading yards per attempt there. And then defensively, third down conversion wise, the Colts were very bad. Nearly a top five worst defense in terms of third down conversion rate. So if Baltimore can convert on their third downs, keep drives going, make them long drives, keep the Colts offence off the field, more importantly, keep Jonathan Taylor off the field in that second ranked Colts run game. From, or actually, it was 10th on offense. It was actually second on defense. There was the second best, Rush defense in the league. So they had a great rushing, your off things considered both offensively and defensively. It's going to be a really, really big key to this game. But all right, Sam, how do you think it goes? How do you think it goes? You can give a score, you don't have to give a score, but how's the overall feeling for you heading into the lead one? I'm feeling really good about it. I mean, really good about it. I'm gonna say 38 to 13.

31:05I think the Ravens come out, giving the Ravens offense a lot of great field position. I mean, that's going to be the key to the game. It's low on Jonathan Taylor down. I just think this past rush is going to do, they're going to recalibrate on Daniel Jones. It's going to be the Daniel Jones show. He's going to have to be the one to step up. I think Jesse Mutton understands that if Daniel Jones comes out firing, regardless of the past rush, then Kudos to him, maybe it's a closer game. But I think that this team is going to become one-dimensional very quickly. And after that, I'd suggest Jesse Mutton secondary over anyone any day. Yeah, if the Colts get one dimensional and you can't use the run game, it's 100% over. There's no shot that they win the game. So, and again, if you can stop them on early downs, force them in a third of long situations and second of long situations, force them in the obvious passing downs. Yeah, like Trey Hendrixson and those guys can pin their ears back. He just go rest the quarterback. You can have them on the field in those situations. All 100% of group what you're saying. And I do think it's going to result any Ravens. Win, but of course, I got to play the games. I don't want to get too far out of myself here,
