Jerry Hamilton of on Texas football here in New Orleans at Brother Martin High. Talking to five star wide receiver in Texas commit Eastern Royal today. Eastern we're gonna start with track. You posted a blazing 1026 got a lot of run on social media. I think in your first meet of the year, did that surprise you with that number right out of the gate? It didn't surprise me because I knew I had it in me but that was definitely not it was definitely not a goal. You know, it was the first meet of the season. So I expected artistly to run like a, you know, easing to a 10, 5, 10, 6.
But, you know, I end up crushing my goal of 10, 2 right out the gate. So now my new goal is 10, 1. What was that feeling when you realized the time? But you weren't expecting it. I was shocked, honestly, because, you know, after the race, you know, I had my hands on my head. I was like, no way, no way. And that's a 1026. So, I was real excited. So, you have, I believe you said you have three track meets before state. So what is that goal now that you've already clipped the 10, 2, 5, kind of area? 10, 1 and to win state this year. Last year, I came in a second to a very tough component. You know, he's in now in college. Right. He's gonna be one of the greatest in college. So now that, you know, and I was doing that is only a sophomore. Yeah. So now this is my year to win state. And a 100 handed to edger. So, recruiting is always hectic for a five store until he signs in his on campus somewhere. Right. You're certainly one of those guys to detect it for. So, for Texas fans, once the next time you're going to be on campus before you get into some other teams.
I'll beat that about campus. The spring game, A-B-A-T-N-I-T. Okay. And you were on campus in January when there's a few offensive recruits. I think Brock Williams, the Titan from Illinois, was there as well. I kind of, you went with on that visit with your mom. And what were you guys thoughts on that visit and did that help Texas? It helped Texas a lot because you know, it just adds on to the case. Oh, why? I feel like Texas is the right school for me. You know, relationships were built stronger. You know, we went out, we went out, you know, had a good time. Just really, really, you know, making it feel like more of like a family. Instead of, like, proving to be bad. I learned more about Texas. I hung out with some of my new freshmen from the class of 2016. How, you know, they all, they were only at that time. They're all built on campus. I think, like, seven days out or something like that. And just for them to build that brotherhood and buy it real quick. Like, it felt like all of the new freshman on campus had known each other for some years. But you wouldn't think that that's not close enough other than it was. Who are some of the guys that you hung out with you've got the know now?
I was with G.B. Haywood Howard. Yeah, from there. Yeah, sir. Anybody else? So he would kind of hosted you that visit. Yeah, he hosted me. Yeah, so in your discussions of Steve Sarhesion, Chris Jackson, when you're there kind of, are all those conversations the same? Do they change? You know, it's not, I'm not going to say they change and it don't say the same. But, you know, it's just kind of reiterating why I'm a top priority and why I would be a perfect fit in our system. And why our Texas should be the school. Was that the first time your mom had been on campus with you? She's been a campus on with me every time every single time. So what are her kind of her thoughts on Texas right now? She loves it, right? She, I remember the, I had worked the Vandy game. The Vandy game before I admitted she would, you know, she was already ready. You know, I got family out in Texas. So my uncle came up with me and they hit it off from the start. You know, I'm on, she fell in love with Texas right away. Where does your uncle, where does he live in Texas, Theo? No, I'm not sure. Okay, I said. And then obviously, one thing you've been very good about recruiting, even up front about everything.
You said in the Under Armour game, you said and told CJ Vogel myself that I'm going to visit Florida, LSU, Tennessee, Ole Miss, and you have. You could follow through with all that. So I think you were at Florida after Texas. Was that right? That was the last visit you took after, first visit you took after Texas? You've been to Florida a few times. Was that was the first time you kind of set with John Summerall probably? It's been with my first time with the new staff. And you know, with me, I feel like being honest and transparent, that's the best thing you could do. Because I would never want to. I don't want to coach to not tell me to fool real and not expect to give it back. So definitely, with Coach Summerall with the new staff, it was amazing. The energy, it was their completely different shift from the last staff. All practice, the coaches, they were jumping up and down, getting hyped, screaming. And you could tell it was speeding off to the players. Each side of the body were talking trash to each other. And some of the offers of guys before practice. You know, they showed me how they were going to use me in the system. They brought me into the meeting room, you know, compared my film to their offense.
And they, you know, once, once they, like, their first play the team run. They had one of their receivers that running back, the next play he was that tied in. Just different ways of getting them the wrong. Yeah, yeah, cool, cool. And then you, uh, when's the last time you were on campus at LSU? Craving the coffee flavor you love. But without the caffeine, Kachava's got you covered with their newest coffee flavor. This all-in-one nutrition shake delivers bold, authentic flavor. Okay, so you haven't been back since the sea hasn't been back since the sea. Do you have a visit schedule there? April 24th. April 24th. So kind of not, I don't think they're having a spring game. Their life's kind of practice, right? And how often do you stay in contact with Lane Kiffin?
Uh, he contacts me not every day, but very frequently. He's always texting me, you know, recruiting me, building a relationship, you know, to try and sway me fantastically. What's his message to you about what things are going to be like at LSU under his leadership? Really just to change an environment and, you know, the way I would fit in their offense and the stats that they're going to put up next to you. Yeah. And then let's talk about Ole Miss. I believe you just got back from Ole Miss. You've been Ole Miss a few times so forward again. You had coach, different offensive staff. So kind of what were your thoughts on that visit? It's a, I've been Ole Miss. I've been to that school the most. There'll be my fifth time going back. Uh, it was great. You know, I have relic, there were one of the coaches over there, Jeremy Simerton. He was my receiver coach here by software year. So I have that relationship with him, Patrick Carter. He was with the receivers, not he else with the running backs. Man, he's always showing me, I was going to develop me, showing me little, you know, clips from the, you know, receivers, the guys. Yeah, when he's working with them and things like that.
And then you've headed to Tennessee this weekend. When's the last time you met a Tennessee and kind of what are your thoughts on their program right now? It'll be my first time. It'll be your first visit. So, you know, I'm very open-minded to what, so I don't really have any thoughts on it. Right. I'm just ready to soak in information and see what they can bring. So on all these visits now that you're well into the process, are you guys that sits back and just listens? Or do you interject with questions? Uh, I'm a little bit of both. And my mom, she acts a lot of questions as well. That's good. And okay, so then let's go back to Texas for a second. Um, your decision to commit the Texas has anything at all changed in your mind frame on why you did? Oh, everything's still the same. Everything's gone strong right now. Yeah. And how did you talk to the Texas staff? I talked to them pretty fubbly. Yeah, I just talked to Coach Jackson last night. Okay. Okay. And I guess the big thing for me, and I think Texas fans will love to know, because you are committed to Texas, but you're going to go through the process like any kitchen. At the end of the day, what does this all really come down to for you?
What would somebody have to do to say, ah, that's a better place for me to Texas? Um, really only relationships in development. Yeah. Like, I feel like, you know, if they would happen there, I feel like, okay. This school can develop me better. That's where I'm going to go. Um, now a couple of things. I've just, I didn't ask you in Orlando. If I said, every guy's goal is to maximize their talent, right? How far you think you are away from maximizing your talent as a water seeker? Uh, I think, um, I'm not far, but I definitely have a way to go. Like, you know, I'm always watching. I'm always watching guys that send a league in college to always get better. Yeah. We were some of those, who were some of those guys that you watch? I was. A lot of Javari Chase, a lot of Justin Jefferson. You know, I feel like my game fits Javari Chase. He's a bigger receiver. Yeah. Not six, three big, but he's, you know, six foot, you know, around 210. Great yards at the catch. He can get open, strong hands, and Justin Jefferson just watch. He's buried fluid and in his routes and various stuff.
So what are areas you need to improve on, you believe? Um, really just being there would read the defense to help out my quarterback and know when to sit his own, when to keep it going. To be very quarterback friendly. So the last thing I have for you, the one any catch in the Under Armour game. Um, and your performance in the Under Armour game, what did you take away from that? Because these all sort of games and out juniors and seniors. And for you to do what you did is a junior says something. Um, honestly, I had the one hand, I had the one hand to catch you. That was a great play. You know, honest, the EB, he kind of held my other hand. So I had, I was forced to go one hand, but yeah, I'm not, I wasn't completely satisfied with the game because I had a catch on like on a slug on a sluggo early in the game that I wish I would have back. But I think, you know, I have, I play pretty decent. Okay. So this is the last question. In, in four years, so that be coming, closing on potentially you going into the NFL draft. What are your goals before that, before, hopefully for you going into the NFL draft?
What are your goals as a college war for all-clared water shaver? Really just develop, you know, get ready to play on the biggest stage that I've been dreaming for. Since I was a little kid, it really took outside of football just to make sure as a better man. That's all I feel like that's another thing. Not at night because I feel like the football is going to take care of itself, but really just being able to be a better person, better husband, better father. All right. That is Eastern Royal, on Texas footballs in New Orleans at Brother Martin, home of five star Eastern Royal and by the way, home of VJ Augustine, before Hurricane Katrina, you won a couple of state championships here for Texas basketball fans. Obviously, DJ had an all-American career Texas. All right. Thanks, Eastern. We'll talk to you again soon. Yes, sir.
