The boys are back.
They are back.
And we're back.
We're here at Citizen's Bank Park.
Midday Shell being joined by Icrease and Spike Eskin
of the afternoon.
So they're coming up at two to lead into the game,
including the first leading off of the season,
the Phillies and the Rangers at 415.
All right, guys, we know Bryce Harper is going to
bat third today, where he typically bats.
And the question is, what's going to happen?
Well, of course we did.
Every year they do that.
Well, maybe we'll change it.
And then he's set it up.
He's the three hitter anyway.
All right.
So what's your expectation for Bryce Harper this year?
Last year, clearly not his best.
Not at least.
And Dave Dabrowski wasn't wrong.
And what he said, and maybe he shouldn't have said it,
do we expect him to jump back up?
Or is this what Bryce Harper is now?
At this day, he's risked his career, Spike.
This is what he is.
I don't know.
He's missed.
We did this on the show the other day.
He's missed 34 games a year for the last five years.
So, you know, with the, I think the best season only missing 17
and the worst missing 60, whatever it was.
He, his, I don't, I'm not mad at him.
I don't blame him for it.
His body is clearly, you know, every player age is differently.
And his body is clearly between the wrist and the back and the,
and he's doing everything he can, right?
He's replacing his blood.
By the time the best he can.
He's trying, he's trying the best he can.
I just, I wonder why anyone would think there would be some sort of reversal
to what we've been seeing consistently happen over the last three years.
On top of that, he's still a good player.
I don't think that there's any reason why he can't play 140,
145 games, hit 280, hit 25 home runs,
the 89 RBI's, whatever it is.
And that's a good player right there.
But he's not, it would be surprising to me if all of a sudden it just flipped.
And he was the Bryce Harper that won an MVP, you know, five years ago.
I agree.
I also don't think they really need him today.
I mean, the teams built on pitching now.
Now they need him to be in his best in October, right?
That's he needs to have a run like he did four years ago.
But regular season wise, I don't think we need that anymore.
Maybe it's just me coping as I don't think we're getting it either.
I don't think we need it.
I think that's what it is.
I think this team goes as Harper goes.
Well, I mean, last year he didn't do great and they won a lot of games.
I understand that.
But the narrative has changed this year, Joe.
The fact that, you know, the whole not elite thing.
This team, to be honest, probably got one or two more runs left in them with this group,
with this core group.
Yeah.
And it's obvious that with this infusion of this young talent that they're trying to get a spark somewhere.
But to me, it begins and ends with Bryce Harper.
You know, especially when you talk about his legacy being here and the fact that, you know,
when I wasn't here, the Aduba Orera era since he's been here and he has changed the fortune for this team.
And he's also put a bullseye on his back.
He has to win one here.
And if we're going to do that, he has to be the guy that's going to lead the charge in my opinion.
All right.
What are you feeling on Bryce?
I'm so disappointed in both of you.
Why?
You know, seeing this clearly.
Hey, he's over here on the fence.
So I'm going to leave him on the fence.
What do you mean I'm on the fence?
Yeah.
I'm going to leave you on the fence.
He's got a real take.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You know, that's a shot.
You're taking shots.
It's not a shot.
It's not a shot.
And clearing you are what I'm about to go into with these two over here.
All right.
So you can be on the fence, even though I know you're a Bryce Hater.
Just know.
Just know.
Just know.
He, he, he, he heard it.
Just know.
No, I'm not hating on.
Right.
Hold on, hold on, quickly.
We're doing the World Baseball Classic home run.
Yeah.
And I'm talking about how.
I heard a little better.
Yes.
And he's like, yeah, still a loser, right?
Yeah.
You're a Bryce Hater.
You're a Bryce Hater.
It's okay.
I'm going to let you fit in.
It's okay.
You're a Bryce Hater.
All right, dude.
You're living there truth.
You living your truth.
Hey, when you come on the show.
Yeah.
That's why we invite them on.
Let me do it.
Let me deal with these two haters over here, man.
Listen.
Hey, Bryce Harper just needs to be the Bryce Harper that he's always been.
See, you guys ask about something drastically changing.
Yeah.
The Bryce Harper.
Bryce Harper giving me 32 home runs in 89 RBI's.
And, and an OBP somewhere from 380 to 400.
I'd be okay with that.
I got no problem with that.
It's OPS.
You know what's going to be in the eights and the nines.
And that's where we're going to get him back to being.
That's Bryce Harper.
Here's where I agree with you guys to some degree.
You want Bryce Harper to be the guy that he's been in the big moments that he's been in the past.
That includes sometimes in a regular season when those moments come up.
But not as important as it is as it is to be in the postseason.
Bryce Harper has always been a low 30s home run guy, mid 30s home run guy.
Despite you said it a thousand times, he's only had over 100 RBI's once in his career.
He's still a two time MVP who most people think he's on track to be in the hall of fame.
His, his, his claim to fame is he is using a guy that can hit the ball all throughout the field
and including with power also doubles in the gap and things of that nature.
I want to do that.
But more importantly, he comes up in the big moments.
That's what we need to get Bryce Harper back to being.
And here's why I have the confidence in Bryce Harper.
And yes, they need him to be that guy.
That's what he was right about the bullseye being on him.
Is that in those moments when it comes to October, he has to get back to being in 2022, 2023, Bryce Harper.
No doubt about it.
But with the regular season, if he's healthy, Bryce Harper is still one of the best players in baseball.
And in a clutch moment, in a clutch moment, he is still one of the guys that you want up there in that moment as a home team, as a, as an ally.
But as an adversary, you don't want Bryce Harper up there in that moment.
And that's why we got to get Bryce Harper back to being.
His numbers have never been eye poppy and overwhelming.
He is a big moment red light player.
And that's what has made him endearing to all of us.
That's what's made him endearing to all of us.
No, I mean, you go back to 22.
And that's what he needs to get back to.
That year, he only hit an 18 home runs because he missed so much time.
Yeah.
But if I said to you, 22, like, oh, that's his best year.
Well, that's because October, right?
That's because of the postseason.
Yes.
All right. So off of this, Spike, I heard you the day talking about the load management for Bryce and the idea of kind of getting him through the season.
Yes.
Big picture.
Yeah.
Now Bryce is one part of it, but JT is also super old.
Yeah.
And Schwarber is not young and turn.
They're all in their 30s.
What wheeler when he gets back, Nola?
Do you care about winning the division this year?
Because I did two years ago.
I did again last year.
I don't care this year.
Just get in the playoffs.
And I think of the Dodgers and what they've done.
Now, they know they're in the playoffs when the season starts.
The Phillies aren't quite that, but pretty close.
But it's different.
It's different, but there may be a...
Let me paint this picture.
I guess it's pretty clear the Mets and Phillies are going to go to the playoffs.
Yeah.
Let's just...
Let's use that as the base line.
Let me fight.
Yeah.
Right.
But then you notice always a team...
I know.
But if I tell you in August, Phillies and Mets have like 80-90% chance to make the playoffs.
Yeah.
Like, they're pretty much in.
Does the division matter?
Because I'm on the fence.
Yes.
I'm on the fence now.
It does not anymore.
Yes.
I would...
I would go parts in a wild car.
I would rather give those older guys as much rest and time to...
Even a two-week rest for a Nola or a Wheeler.
Yes.
The Dodgers do it every year.
Yes.
But there's the big difference.
The Dodgers are so stacked that they can pitch their good pitchers half the year.
What they did last year was...
That's crazy.
As good as everyone thinks they are, you go and you look and you're like,
Oh, none of their best pitchers pitched all year long.
And then they all just showed up in the playoffs.
Yeah.
Maybe he was the only one in pitchers.
They started rolling in September.
And I started watching them like, holy crap.
And people don't realize how good they are.
The record was like, blah, and I'm like, no, they're now they're starting to play.
Oh, no.
Oh, Tony's pitching.
Oh, not glass now's pitching.
Oh, no.
It was ridiculous.
Like, no runs in September.
And then he came in here and shut us down.
Yeah.
I don't know that the Phillies...
What I saw in 23 scarred me was that they thought the job was done and they turned the switch off
and they couldn't turn it back on.
And I think, like, I don't think they're good enough.
The Dodgers are good enough.
The Dodgers are two time champions.
The Dodgers can turn it on.
They've turned it on.
We've seen them do it.
The Phillies have not.
And I don't trust them to be able to be good enough and to be able to ramp up enough.
Because one of the things that they're not is that there's no one in this clubhouse
that is some big ra ra turn the tables over.
You guys are asleep.
That sort of thing.
That was gay stuff.
So yeah.
No.
I just...
I think if they turn it off, there's a chance they can't turn it back on.
Yeah, that might...
I feel like it's the one thing they haven't found the right formula.
Right?
Yeah.
22 and 23, they were bad start and then they got hot and then they ran out of gas.
24, they were great to start and then they just ran out of gas.
Yeah.
And last year, they were just good the whole time.
I call that suburban energy, man.
They got too much suburban energy in the line.
I know what you're saying.
You know what I'm saying?
You know what I'm saying?
You don't know me well enough to make that a substance.
I know you well enough to make that substance.
You know what I'm saying?
We all hear this.
You don't hear it for you.
You all know me.
All of us live in a suburbs.
Yeah, we live in a suburbs.
Yeah.
Nah.
Yeah.
Why don't you live in a suburbs?
We live in a suburbs.
Why do you keep it for me?
But we're not.
We used to be intersting children.
Oh, really.
A long time ago.
You're using an H.O.A.
He's not even shoving snow.
Exactly, yeah.
This guy over here.
He's fraud.
I know I know I'm not pretending that I'm some inner city. I am not either. Yeah. We are though. I am not even know if you're closer to Cincinnati.
I don't know where I'm at. I'm not like I'm not. I'm not. I'm not.
You're trying to set it soft. Is that what you're saying?
They're low soft like like for the moments that you're in like especially the playoffs. Yeah. Nobody. It's like like you said.
Nobody's turning tables over. Nobody's has energy. But hey, you know.
Well, you know, it's baseball. You know, what's up?
It's up in the flow. Casting.

That guy was a little rough around here.
He spatted everything else, but in the big moment he wasn't a baby.
What was that fear he was drinking when he splatted?
I'll press it.
That might be a little bit far from the actual story.
I like this, Bella. He slapped me across the lips and had a survey.
I don't like you knowing because you ain't ever played this game.
We know you're a big Alec Bomb guy.
You kept him in our fantasy league.
I don't know if I've ever seen anyone keep Alec Bomb in a fantasy league.
I saw the K&X Thursday and I was like, wait, someone kept Alec Bomb and I was like,
we have Hugh over here.
I want to drive Noah.
On the Alec Bomb.
Wait a minute, I'll show you my part later.
I'm going to let him tell you what I got.
Why don't you tell everyone your bowl prediction for the Phillies?
My bowl prediction for the Phillies.
Alec Bomb, he's going to hit 30 of them.
30.
30.
31.
Wait a minute, hold up, Spike.
30 doubles?
That's what I said.
30 doubles.
He could do that.
Let me tell you what happened.
When they asked for bowl predictions.
I said, I was thinking 30 and as soon as I said that, it hurt them like 30.
Then I was like, what did he hit last?
I thought it was 18, but it was more like 11.
Yes.
So I was like, seven of them were in Sacramento, Colorado.
I'm like, but to stay true to myself, I'm like, hey, you said bowl prediction.
Okay.
You don't get no bowl to do that.
That is pretty bold.
I said bowl time.
It's possible.
I think we're all have, I don't know what type of cardiac are asked.
If yes, third no.
You know what?
I'm thinking real.
Think about 100 games.
No.
I'm like, real listening.
Real listening.
I'm thinking more like 22.
22.
That's the only stretch.
Well, I mean, 22 seems like that's, that's kind of even in his, in his willhouse.
So just say, if you go 15, 18, it's 30 somewhere.
I'm at 30.
It's amazing.
We're back here that he's hitting clean up today behind.
I'm right.
How are we going to hit one today?
Here, we're going to get back with it.
See, this is where I get my back up about, about the owner.
Oh, yeah.
Because it's not his fault.
I didn't say it like that though.
But he's hitting fourth.
Well, he didn't make the line up.
I'm not.
I'm not.
That's what I mean.
It's not his fault.
Don't put him in four.
Well, excuse me.
This might be the goodwill hunting scene.
It's not your fault.
I know it's not his fault.
What does it want to hit four?
Well, Bryce doesn't want to hit two.
Well, and Hall of Famer, or Hall of Famer GM, David Ambrowski has telegraphed that he wants
to trade him.
The last two offseason.
Also, his four hitters hit playing third base for the meta today.
It's both a jet.
That's what he wanted to hit four.
Yeah.
Well, here's the thing.
I'll say this.
It's contract year for both.
You got it.
You got 30.
Yeah.
You got to hit three.
No, no, no.
He said bone predictions.
No, no, no, no.
Do you guys know the last time we did a bone prediction?
You killed that quarter, yeah.
You got that one.
Yeah.
He goes two years ago, okay.
And his bone prediction was Bryce Huff would break the NFL's sacrilege.
So, so we're not, we're not like it when you last, but we're not really well with the
bone.
I don't like it was like that.
We got some bro in here, man.
I mean, I keep this energy down.
Bryce Huffer's tired.
Yeah, yeah.
No, he went to go save us all.
He went to cut batteries.
Yeah, save batteries.
Yeah, save, save battery disposal.
I think that bone is over there and he does his 280.
He gives you 15, 18 home runs.
He gives you about 85 RBI, 85 out of 90 RBI.
No crying.
Yeah.
Well, yeah.
Well, that's hard.
I people will never forget that.
No.
And neither will I.
I think 30 home runs is more like this.
No crying.
It's probably the biggest strike against me.
I'm wrong with Alec Bowles.
When you try, that's when you hit my car.
No, I pressed parlay for that.
He pressed me.
He pressed me.
He pressed me.
He pressed me.
He pressed me.
He pressed me.
He pressed me.
He pressed me.
He pressed me.
He pressed me.
He pressed me.
Yeah.
For y'all, yeah.
He going to hit a home run.
Okay.
I got Alec Bowle hitting one today.
Okay.
Philly money line.
You know, I like the bet on the money line.
Yeah.
Sure.
Justin Crawford gets a hit.
That's $130.
$2 bet.
The best part of baseball parlay says they never sound that hard.
Like, yeah.
I got this, man.
Wow.
A Harper home run, a boom home run, a win and a Justin Crawford hit.
Yes.
The boom home run is the hard part.
I don't like the way you're looking at me like this.
No, I'm just saying it.
It's tough for the first day.
Yeah.
I think last year Bowle and Harper homered in the same game.
Well, it's the first time for everything.
Yeah.
One day 11.
Yeah.
You know what?
It starts today with Tex.
It's been your mantra the entire time.
The whole time.
It takes singles with Bowle.
Stingles with Bowle.
It's too late.
No.
We've been here.
And there's shovels in the game.
You know, this is like the gas station analogy.
I already passed the gas station.
I'm down the restaurant.
Oh, it's that with his 643, a bowl.
He used that yesterday in our show.
Yeah, I didn't care.
He kind of caught it.
I didn't even notice something.
He's like, yeah.
He changed his number.
He was setting the whole thing up like a comedian.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
All right, guys.
Look, before we had enough.
All star, all star year from Bowle.
Yeah.
That was the whole thing.
It's all star year from Bowle.
So at least 22 home runs.
At least go back to it.
At least 22.
In the first half.
In the first half.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Because that tree is about 30 for his 30.
Yeah.
Aaron Jones is 22.
You're right.
He gets 10 or 11 home runs in the first half.
That could be all star.
Yeah.
Well, it could.
Yeah.
It absolutely could be.
I actually stopped.
I see it.
I see it.
We don't really.
We really are.
You really call them.
I appreciate that.
I'm doubling that.
I'm tripping them down on this one.
Well, if this happens, you're going to walk in.
I told you so.
Remember the last time we were here.
And who was on the mouth?
Taeywong.
Taeywong.
Taeywong.
Taeywong.
Taeywong.
Taeywong walker.
Taeywong walker.
And I said, he was going to have a dead.
Everybody yelled and screamed at me and Philadelphia.
I do remember that.
It was the definition.
It was the Rocky's, by the way.
It was the Rocky's.
Just to put that out.
Are the Rocky's professional baseball team?
No.
Not really.
Not really.
But the letter of the law, I guess.
I did say that they were a farm club here.
Everybody else early.
So I guess I can't go and push that one.
You're going to start selling these.
No, I'm not.
I told them.
They're for the people, man.
That's a garlic clove.
I made that last night.
I made that last night.
He has talked about starting to print people.
He wants to do Chuck Norris now.
I said he should make one of all of us.
I'm going to make a Chuck Norris fidget toy today.
All right.
But that's a garlic clove.
That's good.
Yeah, I play with the one you lead.
The yellow one you lead.
Yeah, I lead with everybody.
Yeah.
I'm a fidgeter.
Yeah, I'm a fidgeter too.
So, before we hand it off to you guys,
X Factor Player.
Someone on the team that maybe we haven't talked
super much about.
But you think is someone that could kind of swing this thing.
A couple extra wins or just make a unit of the team better.
Spike an X Factor filling for this season.
It's Garcia.
It really is.
I mean, they have struck out on,
if they have hit on one of those outfielders
over the last three years,
whether it's Whitmerfield or Max Kepler or whoever it is.
Track record is not great.
Or was the guy who had the parasite or whatever
that they traded for.
Austin Hayes.
Austin Hayes.
Well, yeah, it's something.
It's something bad.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
If one of those had hit,
it could have meant a huge difference for the team.
We were talking about yesterday.
You watched the Dodgers and all of their big bats
in the series against us basically got shut down.
Oh, Tony was terrible.
Yes, but then you have a Teosker hit or an Edmund hit
or a Keke hit.
I just think I don't trust that it's going to come from left field.
I don't trust that it's going to come from center field.
I think that Dolis Garcia and Jack has brought this up a million times.
If he has 25 homeruns,
but more importantly,
if in the playoffs,
he's a little scary.
That could make it easier.
And he has track record.
Yeah, he was great for the Rangers in 23 in the playoffs.
Ike, your X Factor.
Outball.
On brand.
I just think he is.
I mean, I think he makes it.
If he can get back to Alec Bohm of 2023,
is that the year he wants to be all-star game or 24?
24.
That's not my right.
24.
Yeah.
It makes this line up so much more dangerous.
Right?
So I'm not expecting him to have a big homerun,
despite what he was predicted.
30 of them.
But.
But in that guy.
That is a contact hit.
It drives in runs.
You know, one, two and three are going to get on base field walk.
Or hits.
Alec Bohm was in a great position for two years when he drove in.
Over 90 plus homeruns.
Both years.
Because guys were on base.
He got pitches to see.
Like, we got to get Bohm back to being that guy.
Well, and then Bryce was last week.
He talked about walking 140 times this year,
which is an enormous number.
But even if it's 100, that means he's on base all the time for Alec Bohm.
That's the thing about Bohm.
The opportunities will be there.
For our guys, for sure.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So I kept him.
Is that a big deal on our league?
Are we odds?
Yeah.
Sure.
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
I mean, it's not wrong with keeping Alec Bohm.
I just knew it was you.
I saw it.
I was like, it has to be I.
Can we have defensive metrics to win shares?
Sure.
Sure.
In fantasy?
Yes.
Yes.
Well, because I PCA.
I'm with it.
Why you take a defensive guy?
Well, like you hit 26 homeruns in the first half.
I mean, he fell off in the second half.
He did.
He did.
But I believe he's the first half player.
I'm just saying defensive.
No.
That's a big deal.
I would like to add defense.
No.
That's to our.
That's wrong.
That's wrong.
Of course.
That's going to be a goal goal first baseman this year.
I can see that.
I've got to play enough games to get to the goal glove.
He's going to play.
What?
I mean, you're going to love this game.
You're going to get away with management.
Yeah.
Exactly.
We stay away from his game plan this year.
Spikes, which is the low managed guy.
The low managed guy.
So he's healthy at the end.
Maybe if Bryce cared a little bit more about being healthy at the end,
a little bit less about his regular season stat.
So he can get an extension.
Maybe we'd have a healthy Bryce at the end.
Wow.
Well, maybe if Topper sits them all down in August and September.
There you go.
Yes.
They get ready just to play.
Yeah.
148 enough.
Yes.
148.
We're 148 games.
You mean to win a gold glove?
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, baseball doesn't have those rules like basketball,
where you have to play a certain amount of games.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's more just like, excuse common sense.
Yeah.
It's really.
Anything below 140, I think you start getting a little.
Yeah.
Well, I'm with all the counting metrics.
It's hard to get your stats if you don't get a certain amount of games.
All right.
We're going to hand this over to you guys.
Oh, yeah.
Here we come.
Your show.
And then allegiance.
Are you guys ready for your first leading off of the season?
Yeah.
It's a big deal.
It's a fritz is back here.
He's in the stable.
The first leading off sets the tone for the whole season.
Yeah.
He could have been on.
He could have been on.
I'm going to stumble all over leading off.
It takes me an easily a month to get into the groove.
It's not easy for that now.
That first one.
Yeah.
You'll probably have Bob and Laura Potsgrove on the line for you right
to go though.
Yeah.
Well, he's very mad at me because I didn't take his call.
And he pointed the show for like three months.
I just realized he brought it up about a month ago.
Okay.
Well, I hope you guys are all right.
All right.
We're going to hand this over to the afternoon show.
As we get set for opening day.
We'll talk to you tomorrow afternoon show next on sports radio.
94 WIP.
Peace.
