Hi, I'm PJ Vote and I want to tell you about my podcast, Surch Engine. We try to make sense of the world, one question at a time. No question too big, no question too small. We will even answer your questions if you send them in. Stuff like, what happens when a cemetery goes out of business? What should we do about teens using AI to do their homework? I don't think people rooting for Baker this Sunday is revisionist history at all. If Deshawn Wadsen had lived up to his billing, I do think there's something to say that we probably wouldn't have as many people rooting for Baker Mayfield. I don't really look at though the way people feel about either quarterback is being directly linked to each other. I always don't understand why people can't have independent thoughts about quarterbacks. You only hate Deshawn Wadsen because you want to see Shadour Sanders play football? No, no, I've been pretty adamant. Shadour Sanders is playing in a different jersey. I find whatever I would always have the understanding that Deshawn Wadsen isn't going to be able to get the job done. I'm just going to say your non-interventionless ways are a real problem. Yeah, there's a reason why America is sitting down into the march and I believe it's you. I thought, hey, you want a park and a handicap spot? Go ahead because Johnny Peterlin's not going to stop you. It's not your job. It's all of our job. No, it's not. Yes, it's a collective con. It's really not. Yes, it is. It's a collective con. It's really not.
I don't feel like you should. We're with you for the next five hours. Got a lot to get to guys in that open courtesy of Michael Marcatch on the body. Yes. Good to see the Ginger St. of Cleveland Sports. Once again, we got Jake Murren back in the saddle here, manning the 92 through the fan YouTube channel. And as always, producing the show. And as always, you guys can watch all five hours long in real time on 92 through the Vans YouTube channel. Subscribe to 92 through the Vans YouTube channel and like our videos. We desperately like to be like, ring that bell except you, Cornelitos. Suck it, Cornelitos. And Mackenzie Flume. I remember Mackenzie Flume. I was like, did he stroke out on the 20 counties? Did we lose Nick? I was just, it was so much energy. And then I was like, I, it was Mackenzie, right? I think there's a big build up and then I kept waiting. Yeah. And I kept waiting and I kept waiting. And I didn't know what was going to happen. I mean, it's going to happen at some point. I'm going to have like our friend in Atlanta, whose name I cannot remember again, continuing the stroke theme here,
where he literally skits out on air and he just kind of fell back. That will happen to me eventually, but not today, Satan, not today. As I know, it's going to be a very heavy football Friday here. Should be noted, go, Gartos. This A's series is incredibly winnable. You've got the pitching matchup advantage every single night. I rarely do this. I'm expecting a sweep. This A's team is dog bleep and you have the significant advantage here. Expecting a sweep? I'm expecting a sweep. I realize how bold that is, but I'm expecting it. They need to sweep. It's funny, the amount of people that are like, they have to go seven and two. They have to go eight and one. The way the white socks and other teams have been playing, it might not, you might not need all of that, but go ahead and get all of that just in case. I feel like the white socks winning last night made everybody flip back to the seven and two prediction. Well, we're back in second place now, Nick. Yeah. Yeah. We're back in second place. Yeah. I think it was the first time in two and a half months for a single day. But it's interesting. I feel like the second the Guardian's got into first place, it got real for everybody.
Like when they were in second place or when they were, you know, the comp five hundred team. I think it was a combo of things, Nick. It was not only just getting back in first place. It was also then, for some reason, I don't know, 95% of people, we've been talking about it for a while, but it feels like 95% of people just woke up to how the playoff bracket is in baseball. Yeah. Guys, it's existed. The format's existed for a while. Like this isn't completely brand new. And also the idea that you could, you could always look on the website and see exactly where everyone's spotted. Like, there's a massive advantage to getting the two seed in baseball, one or two seed, but the two seed where the Guardians would be. And this is the final three home games of the 2026 regular season. So if you're thinking about it, make sure you fill up that stadium this weekend. It's best we possibly can. Very excited for this. Again, go guards, cards, ball. And while we talk about a team battling for first place, we also have to talk about a team battling for relevance here. And I just want to make sure because if you feel the way you feel,
if you're rooting against the Browns or if you're rooting against a Sean on Sunday, I hear you and I see you, and I will not challenge you in any way. Me and Nick Wilson, I am rooting for the Browns on Sunday because quite frankly, I don't want another non competitive loss. I need a little bit of hope here early in September. Yeah. And so the hard part about this is I always root for Baker Mayfield as well. And in a game against Baker Mayfield, I have to root against Baker Mayfield. And so like not only, I mean, and there are so many calls and listen, we encourage you guys to call in all day long. If you want to root for Baker and you want to root for Tampa Bay and you just want nothing to do with this Browns team, I get it. I do. I understand it. But it's week two of the season. Yeah. It's too early for me to be doing this. It's week two of the season. You got to still be rooting for the Browns. I would imagine what he's shocked to me. Right. And I put out a poll on Annick Wilson says earlier today thinking, okay, it'll probably be 60, 40, maybe 70, 30. I was blown away for 50, 50 in your polls. Yeah. To me, that's a good poll when you hit 50, 50. Yeah.
I had said, do you expect the Browns to be competitive with Baker Mayfield and the Bucks on Sunday 89% of 430 votes as of right now saying no. That's not 50, 50. And as you had mentioned, it is week two. Well, I have to think people are acting like this is week seven, number 13 week sevens early. What is it? We sevens early. No, 100% 100%. Week sevens crazy early. In fact, I was expecting at some point of the season to have the all the discussions that will have that will take us to the end of the season about, uh, tanking and when you can lose games week two was never on the docket. And this is this brings me to the point of I don't I honestly cannot tell how many people are truly rooting for the, the Buccaneers or rooting for Dishon's failure this weekend. What I can tell you is the people who always in my head, like the Browns fans that I know that I engage with who I always associate with the sunniest part of the road. Right? When I said they were a five win team last year. And I, hey, this is a seven or eight win team. You're crazy.
All right. One buddy that told me there are 10 win team. I think that might have been my mechanic that told me you know who you are Rob. But like the sunny, the sunny aside of the street people are the people that I am totally blown away are rooting against Dishon watching this weekend. This similar to the week two thing that's what blows my mind. Well, because I think Browns fans feel insulted that this is happening. That's, that's the part that is different for most years. They feel insulted that this is happening. They know the way that we know the way that everyone but the Browns seem to know that Dishon Watson is cooked. The man can't play. And so they're putting them out there. And I think it's one thing to waste our time. And it's another thing to waste our time and then kick us in the cajones while also doing it. And this one feels like the second. Yeah. And it's funny because I do think if people were split on Shadour Sanders five six weeks ago. It does feel like after one week of Dishon and another press conference from Dishon that it does feel like he is somehow united Browns fans behind the idea of Shadour Sanders. That doesn't mean it'll work out by the way when they go to him. But it is interesting this in the same way that the sunny side of the street people that I talked to with great regularity are saying.
All right, I think we got to get Baker this win this weekend. And I don't expect it to be competitive. The people who I considered to be anti Shadour about six weeks ago. That I know just in personal conversations. They also are like, well, what about this Shadour Sanders guy? Yeah. Basically they've come to the side of anybody but Watson as well. Anybody but Watson little a BW for the people. Anybody but Watson. I am it's funny. You know, typical years if you had a quarterback play one game and looked the way that Dishon did. People would find us overlining people would talk about some things they talk about they talk about week one being alive. They talk about the end of game. I would seem like it turned around a little bit better. They talk about all these different type of things. They make excuses for the quarterback and no one's doing that for Dishon. Watson. That's a pile on that's happening right now as it should is across the board. Well, in fairness, I mean, I we definitely had somebody here at Nick Wilson said, Hondo saying the Browns offense sucks and their defense might be even worse and again social media reactions on X powered by Shad and Jouler's Cleveland's premiere jewelry store.
The reason why I bring that up is I like we're trying to find reasons that the Browns will be competitive this weekend and just for just to say it. I do think they're going to be competitive this week. I don't know that they're going to win. I don't think anyone should expect them to win. What is competitive to you? Because I don't have that same expectation, but that's just because right now I'm living in a world where we're going to experience a lot of blowouts. You definitely shouldn't be beaten by eight and a half points. Now, and what I mean by that is if it's like a like a competitive to me is a one score game. Yeah, yeah, you know, exactly. And so even if it's even if the bucks cover and it's like a late field goal or late whatever, I can handle that. But we've established any points within a minute and a half remaining in the game doesn't count for us. Yes, but it's the idea of that the Cleveland Browns got completely housed from Jump Street. That's what I need not to happen. And I don't just need it for Deshaun Watson. I needed for Todd Monkin and Mike Routenberg and this organization because if you get blown out for a second straight week, I have nothing to point to but your own decision to start Deshaun Watson and say, hey, all of my worst fears, which you were you were going to sink a
perfectly good team with your hubris and your ego on Deshaun Watson. You will have proven me not just right. But laughably in historically right. If the Browns are not competitive. I mean, it's on the Browns to show me competitive before I have the belief that they'll be competitive in these games. It's on them. I got to see more from the defense. I got to see a someone's of anything from the offense. Like I they have no alternatives. We already start with the idea of the quarterbacks going to be bad. You've got to give me the positives elsewhere and until a lot of these players step up. I just won't live with that. Now going from I was right to I was right. I just was just early. I think the outcome, the ideal outcome for Browns fans in this game is what I said was my ideal outcome for the Jacksonville game. Maybe you fall behind a little bit in the first half. Deshaun is Deshaun. So he gets benched at the half. Shadour takes over leads a game winning drive and you go into week two against Baker. And it should do it versus Baker. That's what I think is the ideal game for a fair amount of Browns fans in this one where I told you I thought it was next to impossible.
I think I put it at a zero point zero one percent chance that Deshaun will get benched in week one. I said it just it's not happening. What do you think the odds are actually gets benched in this one because in your perfect scenario. Shadour is the guy that comes into the third quarter. I'll tell you this. I don't get the semblance that the Browns are willing to go ahead and remove Deshaun Watson early. I think you're right. And and this is this is you put it at 15%. I think we can raise that collectively. Yeah, I would go 30%. That's what it should be. Okay. You should be very, very tempted in this because if Deshaun Watson doesn't look better and that that should be the expectation. Not demonstrable. He better not 400 yards and five touchdowns. No, or whatever Josh Allen did last night on Thursday night football. But he should look better this week. And if he doesn't and he continues to I don't know blame his teammates for delay of game penalties and have the overall energy of Charlie Brown. At any point in any one of those in Zippet Charlie Brown stories, I would say you have your answer. And I think you're right to say maybe Todd Munkin is just more stubborn than that.
I I desperately want Todd Munkin to be a success. I think Todd Munkin is one of the coolest stories in the NFL finally getting his crack here. And I would hate to see him go down with the Deshaun Watson ship because he didn't make that trade. And if you believe people, he's the one talking everybody else into continuing to play Deshaun Watson. If it's not there in the first half, there's no reason he should be out there in the second half. Give that team a chance. I don't think they're going to do it. I don't think they will. I don't think they will. Now I think it'd be perfect if they did. And you could you could just let Deshaun Watson sit on the bench and we don't have to think about it. I think it gets the whole entire game the way I thought it last week. I hope I'm wrong. I really do. I hope I'm wrong. But the other side of this is also if after the game, Munkin comes out and says Deshaun, you're the starting quarterback for week three. Then we got to shelve the conversation until at least after week four because if you get it's a bogo, you buy one get one. If you get the start week three coming off because Thursday Thursday night football is week four. You have the next two weeks, 216 474 0092. Are you rooting against the browns on Sunday,
not for me, but we've definitely reached a point with this Deshaun nonsense that I I really can't haggle with you. If you just want to see this thing and if you if you see the means to the end here, quick hits coming up at 240. We got Scott Reynolds of the pew to report talking which baker should we expect to show up this weekend against the Browns Brett Coleman NFL media analyst host of the NFL pro, which is on Monday and Fridays at five PM. He joins us at four. We'll talk about the browns, which Deshaun should we expect to show up. Derral Ryder talks a little bit of the Browns and a little bit of the Gardos ahead of the big series against the A's here at 440. The lead at five. Chris Jimenez, Guardians TV analyst coming up at six o'clock, but 216 474 0092. It's a two for. Are you expecting a sweep of the A's and what do you what do you view is the ideal outcome for the Browns on Sunday fairness and a must not be terrible moment for Deshaun Watson in five minutes on 92 to three of the fan. Football Friday with the fan is powered by Vans Auto service and the pros. Finally, an auto shop that listens explains and makes it easy. And we do have the quick hits segment coming up at about 20
to 10. We have the Tampa Bay perspective with a pewter report Scott Reynolds at three o'clock today. Time out what to expect on Sunday. I should be noted Todd Boles known lover of exotic blitzes. I want to say thank you to Warren Sharp for completely deflating any of the hope that you might have had about Deshaun Watson as he said, Deshaun Watson averages the three point two seconds to throw the fifth longest in the NFL. Next up the box who blitzed a 46% rate. Okay. All right. That's okay. Yeah. Well, and also the I mean the pressure numbers with Deshaun Watson versus when he didn't have pressure was astounding in week one. And so yeah, again, not great. He also some nice Baker Mayfield numbers at Warren Sharp put out there that really suggests Baker is going to be all right. All things are going great. Listen, when it comes to real going great after Deshaun's honestly fair take down of the media earlier this week, we got to be fair. So I was going to
predict 400 yards and five touchdowns at least in this game. Yeah. I've decided now I he's right. He called us out got me between his crosshairs thinking to my fat self. I got to I got to play this one fair. So what are fair expectations for Deshaun on on Sunday? So what's interesting is that I think we have to take the box score completely away from it and evaluating Deshaun Watson. I think we just have to remove it. Just the I test. I think we have to I test only we're going to take football. I think we're going to take football. The guy that we all admit we're just not fans. I'm going to do the test. Let's bring it back to like 1995. Let's I mean, we could reduce some real 1995 sports radio. It's all just based off of whatever the hell we saw because clearly he's shown he did this at the end of his time in Houston. And then also in week one, he can put up some garbage time numbers. Yeah. But man, it's a garbage time all star. So I give you numbers and I'd say something like I don't know complete 72% of your passes. And I don't know maybe throw for a couple hundred yards. And maybe, you know, maybe you have a touchdown in there. And Mike and that be exactly what it didn't week one.
Should we know, you know, we just say like should we just do like negative penalties. And so like, all right, no turnovers. That's a good start. No turnovers. No delay of game penalties might be a good way to evaluate him. All right. So we need to like a we need a guy. No turnover like no interception, no fumble type thing. And then everything else is just baked into the eye test because we can't use this box scores. Yeah. We can't. There's no real realistic way to look at it that way. I think what scares me about this matchup is specific to Dishon. And honestly, I'd say the same thing. It was Shodork. Shodork also holds under the ball too long. This is a game that, you know, so much of week one was you had negative momentum and then you just never recovered. This is a game where you just that first quarter, you cannot have the oopsie daisy play if you're Dishon because I don't there's so much negative inertia with this team coming off week one that you just you cannot have a game swinging.
And what's what's to show us? I would think or did it by the way they can clearly recover because they almost did against Cincinnati week ago. So what's bigger though the first two drives for the defense of the first two drives for the offense because if you thought about it, the way everyone is analyzed that game was the idea that the defense in allowing back to back touchdowns in the first two drives. The offense was basically up a creek with without a paddle from jump street. All right. So there I'm going to end up turning this into like a ring and it's a circle and it's a symbol and all that kind of stuff real quick here. It is the defense, but it's a defense because if you can intercept a Baker pass or generate a fumble, it would take insane amounts of pressure off the offense. Well, and here's what we know about Baker. It's fun because we watch Baker for so many years. We know his tendencies the same way we know Dishon Watson's tendencies. Baker when he gets hot. You can't stop him. He'll complete 10 11 12 13 in a row. But Baker when he goes through cold stretches and stretches where he can't find it and stretches where he is unsure of himself and the in the tiniest little bit. That's when you get after Baker. I watch Baker throw seven straight passes and come nowhere close to then turn around and complete 13 straight. So like if they getting Baker on tilt so to speak early could be a big thing.
216 474 0092. What is your ideal outcome for the Browns on Sunday and what what are fair expectations for Dishon on Sunday as well? Ian and Boston Heights. Welcome to the show. What you got for us. Thanks for having me. How you doing? Well, let's start with the Guardian. You know, I'd like to see him get two out of three. You always hope for a sweep, but even two out of three. I think we'll keep us in good position. Three would be would be beautiful going with the bullpen game today. I don't know if I love that, but we'll see what happened. Yeah, this feels like the one you got a steal tonight does feel it because then you got by be and then like you have the definitive starting advantage the next two days. This one feels like the one you got a steal starting Mason Barnett who's got an ERA that is to the moon. Yeah. Yeah, so let's get off to a good start and let's let's get this one. Now I was going to move on to Dishon, but honestly, like most of the stuff I have to say, like it just isn't very Christian.
So I'm just going to skip that, you know, Christ has died Christ has risen Christ will come again, which means I have I absorb you. You're saying so if you want to, I'm I just want to tell you how how crazy it is to have be a fan of these two teams at the same time. They're like legitimately the polar opposites being a guardian fan is always fun. You know what you they end result. We still haven't ever gotten the end result that we want, but like every season is fun and every season is enjoyable. And it's just always a ride this time of year and it's like so awesome. Like I'm seriously so grateful for it. And then you go watch the browns, you know, and they're the ones that I like want, you know what I mean? I just want them to be good and they just it's so disheartening the organization. It's not even Dishon's fault at this point. Seriously, it's not even his fault.
Oh, it's definitely Dishon's fault. I mean, it's come on. What are we doing? It's just a human being, you know what I mean? Trying to live its life. The browns are an organization of people who continue to let this human being just deteriorate their franchise day by day. And it's not just him deteriorating the franchise. It's from the top down. It's everyone. And it's just so disheartening. But other than that, what do you love about being a browns fan? Ian? The memories of watching the games with my with my uncles, my dad watching them with my son. But honestly, other than that right now, nothing. All right. Well, I was just trying to have some fun with the memories though. Yeah, but we got memories. That'd be good, buddy. Can't take those great days. Well, let's go guard. Thank you so much. Maybe that was a good vibe for the first call. Maybe we can hang on for a little bit too long, but he was nice. Yeah, good guards. Tame right off the rip there. The real passionate fan and an insensible one. I know I'm being I'm having way too high of standards at any point for this team to say you should sweep this one. That being said, they should sweep this one.
The A's or booty cheeks. You should also though. Before we start talking about how great and wonderful the guardians are. They still have to finish the job first. Now, I think there's a big picture of the guardians, even if they're worse, tend to deliver most years than not. Picture that works, but I've just before we, you know, before we give Stephen vote, the third straight A.O. manager, the award. Maybe we just got to get through the next nine days. I'm not going to let you rage baby on this one. I'm just feeling next nine days. I don't know. All right. What happened in the next nine games? Brandon and Medina Brandon. Welcome to the show. Hey, Nick. Thanks for taking my call, man. I don't know if I can listen to this, but I mean this last guy I heard someone the other day mental health. Come on. What is he making? 240 to 50? I just want Nick. I just want you to slam him for the rest of the day. Please just do me a favor. Just slam him. Just try to pretend like he's good. Just please just slam this guy realistically. I hope Sanders is playing in the second half.
That's realistic for us. Go Browns. Thanks for thinking my call. Appreciate you, buddy. Has he ever listened to the show at all in the previous month? I was going to say I don't think the Browns would say that I've been very sun shining about Dishon at any point at any moment. As a matter of fact, I would dare say they're really not happy with me for how I've talked about Dishon. And I've been called the worst to Dishon in the entire station. Yeah. Who said that? Well, I'm a I'm a did that Watson warrior. I mean, nobody's talking about nobody loves Dishon Watson the way Anthony Lima does. He can't quit him. He can't quit him. He just can't quit him. Like a bad habit. He just needs to quit. He just he just can't honestly. We're all in the running. It can is in the running for who's been worst to Dishon Watson except Lima. That guy. I mean, she do our fans will mean to him on social media once. So of course, of course he you're willing to go ahead and put up with Dishon. That's great. Jim and Strong'sville. Well, the show about him. Jim. It's the caveman in the schnauz.
All right. I'll accept that. Well, I mean, Jonathan, your nose is not that big, by the way. I don't know what the hell he's talking about. Thank you, Jim. That was very nice of you to say. This is not like I haven't been really conscious about it since you since you know two days ago. Yeah. I mean, first. Shnauz. Yeah. Of course he is. Anyway, listen, I don't know why all these people are like rooting against the shop. The shop must have had no chance of playing well. I mean, why are people even afraid that he is going to play well? He has zero chance. This guy is so bad he can barely stumble into a successful game. I mean, what once he's done doing his victory parade and his victory parade for his statistically awesome week last week. I don't know what world he's living in, but he's floating around out there. No matter what he does. I mean, I think the biggest question. I want the brothers to win. I don't think they're going to win. I don't know. I hope this defense steps up and becomes better than what they are right now. I'm just worried that like you guys talking the other day about like all the talent and the defense. I don't know. I'm looking across defense. Yes, there's talent, but they really didn't generate a pass rush.
You know what generated pass rush puts Denzel and puts everybody in under pressure. I just maybe and maybe this is a thing that where Jackson is much, much, much better than what any of us think that they are. And if that's the case, then God bless, but I'm looking towards next week and seeing like there's clearly no way the Browns trot watch now, right? I mean, look, they know they can't do that. And I think the problem Jim is that they can. And I think there's a chance they might. And I think there's a chance. JP might be right that this goes at least four weeks. And that is befuddling after week one and Dishon's presser on Wednesday. I will go down that way. Easy. Exactly to boot to Shaw Watson. All right. Jim, we got a buggy buddy. But I think Jim might have made the open on Monday with his. There's zero percent chance. Dishon has a good game. Because that works no matter what kind of game Dishon has on Sunday. You get the win. That's going in the open. Yeah, the loss and Dishon gets benched. Jim looks like he's prescient to say something I've never said before.
Oddly enough, I want to hear from chip. Yeah, chip call it out 34 to 10 the exact score of the game. What is chip the serum on sears, the prognosticators prognosticator? What does he have to think about this game? What about Jeffrey? Where's Jeffrey? Jeff Jeff. Jeff. Jeff. I'm like Omar in the wire with calling you out here. Also, you're starting playing all sorts of different farm music. We'll get this going. I was everybody can just say the defense was putrid week one totally fair. I wasn't worried until I heard Mike Gutenberg speak this week. I need that defense. What do you think about 44 year old men wearing backwards hats? I love it. I think and that actually is the only redeeming quality. Is that right? Yeah. Yeah. I thought you would. That's the strong. I thought you would kick me a kisman on that 40 plus your old males that were backwards hat. I thought you guys had a bonding experience. But I'm a unit. He's kind of a sprint football player. We had football under five. We would look ridiculous hanging out. I think everybody knows that I do need the defense to have a big just just play like you actually belong in the NFL this week. Please you guys are so freaking talented. What are your expectations for Dishon watching?
We will lead off quick hits in five minutes on 92 through the fan. Scott Reynolds of the pew to report coming up in just about 20 minutes time. Nick and JP back with you on a football Friday. On a. Hey guards. Let's get that sweep of the A's in the final home stand series of the season again very wordy. But that is what it is today. If you missed a moment in our show, miss any of the moments in our show. User rewind feature on the free. Honestly, you have powered by integrated restoration. Your local experts in water fire in storm disaster restoration. A little bit of NFL news to pass along. The Vikings have ruled out Kyler Murray for Sunday's game versus the Bears, meaning Carson Wens will start. I'm going to imagine Carson Wens will turn back into the great ginger pumpkin that he is. Carson Wens wins this game. I think there's a chance that Kyler Murray is going to get Wally pipped here. Can you ever have that much faith and confidence in Carson Wens? But he looked really good. He went good last week. I really don't believe in that bears defense. I'm going to expect him to look decent. He's just not going to be able to do OK.
Maybe Kevin O'Connell is just really good with ginger quarterbacks. Like look what he did to Sam Donald Mark. Catch getting the presence of Kevin O'Connell. Yeah, did you play. Did you play any division? You know, two AA whatever quarterback growing up there. I only played football for two years. I was seven and eight years old. They put me on the offensive line. I was about 70 pounds did not go well. Yeah, you're still about 70 pounds. I was going to say, yeah, what bird brain coach puts you in the offensive line. Yeah, I wasn't good and scared of contacts. So they just do it. Yeah, so they just thought like we're going to throw them into water and they'll get good at contact. Yeah, I don't I never played. I stayed on the sideline. I did not like playing football. OK, you're not helping our football. I case here. We were going to that's all right. In a patient that way, why don't we know Connell could turn me into a quarterback. That would be something decent spin. Now, I stress this. You are an awesome high school wide receiver and everybody knows that the state of Michigan still talks about how great you were as a wide receiver. You are basically the Cooper Manning of the Spinal St. Moses also got you. That's basically how we're going to spend this for now on. You broke. Well, Vonia high school records that'll never be top ever again. Let's go ahead and get to quick hits from the latest news and rumors around the sports world. To the sound bites you need to hear.
It's quick hits. Speaking of great quarterback play, Josh Allen, a bills quarterback, five total touchdowns for over 300 total yards yesterday in the bills 4131 win over the Lions on Thursday night football and Amazon's Richard Sherman outed Alan's big secret after the game. We're leaving around a long time. Yeah, the stuff is up this season. You were shivering in the back in a hot tub before the game. You're getting IBs. You don't want to get admitted, but you're having a flu game. Y'all how much more impressive does it make last night's game if it is if it is a true flu game. Yeah, I mean, I. He was impressive either way. I never think it adds to it because I never know the severity of it. Right. Even Jordan's flu game. You find out so many years later. He wasn't really at sick. So I don't know. I never know how to count for it. When I will say is that on the first drive when he goes 45 yards using his legs. I don't want to go from the couch to the fridge when I'm sick. So the idea that not only was he just dropping back and throwing dimes.
He was beating him with his legs exclusively early on in that game. The tip of the cap. Yeah, here's the only thing I said I want to minimize it because he had an awesome game last night. If he was feeling under the weather, that's that's it's incredible. Truly. I feel like we don't realize most athletes are going through something while playing these games. Yeah, I think it's almost under reported how hurt sick whatever guys are. And it's probably the one part that we should be a hell of a lot more human about just in how we assess how players play because I guarantee you you go out there and there's, you know, what is it? 22 starters across 32 teams each weekend. I bet you more than one had the flu this week or something like not sick. It doesn't really matter. If it's September football, Josh Allen will be really, really good. He's good at football. Yeah. Oh, my God. All right. Camoron. Not good at football and National Reporter wanted to remind him of such in this exchange. I think, you know, I'm a very good quarterback. You know, I think I do a lot of things. You know, different than a lot of quarterbacks can't do. It's also stuff that you don't have to get better at.
It doesn't a very good NFL quarterback have better results than you have. I think it comes with the game because with the defensive plan, it comes with, you know, what the DC's philosophy is. And you know, every game is not going to be a shooter. Every game is going to be a, it could be a bad passer rate. It can be a bad, you know, completion ratio. But it's all about the winning loss. And you know, we haven't done that. And that's something that we only focus on is when losing. Well, to ask Jeff should have if he's got a cousin covering the like the Titans beat or something. But was that so be more pissed at the reporter. It's like, that's not what you're trying to do. You know, I try to find out that type of answer. What is that? I thought is pretty fair. He called himself a very good quarterback. You then get to ask whether or not you actually a very good quarterback. He got more of a pushback. And he's in game, I think 17, 18 in his career. Then Deshaun did for saying, how much would a great game he had in week one. But no, I mean, I don't really know where you're going with that question. You know, I just a good quarterback. Have your stat line. I don't, I'm like, try to figure out what answer you're really trying to get there.
I think he was really genuinely surprised that he called himself a very good quarterback. I'll give another tip of the cap to the reporter who has been very hotly debated if he should have even asked the question. I think he was paying attention to the answers that cam ward was given a lot of reporters would have just been like, I'm asking my question. I don't even, I'm not even listening to you. He didn't let him just go. I didn't call himself a very good quarterback. I don't know. Didn't hate it. But when the media is doing this. Tides really turning quickly on cam ward is the end result that it's it's not great. The cams promoted promoted rather or promoted St Vincent St. Vincent St. Mary's very own Brandon weems to general manager today under president of basketball operations Kobe Altman. Does this story lack a little bit of punch because it wasn't accompanied by a second LeBron return. Yeah, I wonder if they're like, all right. We promise to this. So we'll follow through with it. But he didn't really deliver on the goods. Did you? Yeah, I think my problem is like I know he's assistant GM. And so now he's the general manager, but really that's like an assistant GM because Kobe still makes all decisions.
I think under the Ivy League era of sports where the the the the Pobo as it were is really the GM. I just I don't really understand what anybody's like rolled is. And I think that's by design. That's how we've seen so many more front offices succeed for longer across all sports is. You don't really know what anybody does you can't really blame him. Yeah, no, it's a nice title. And he deserves it by the way he has just to be clear he's worked his butt off and it'll help him. It's great story and it'll help him when he tries to do the Mike Gansy of going to a different team. You know, maybe we finally have the the the Arab parent for Kobe Altman. What do you think Kobe will be here for the rest of time? You think they'll just he'll be the way to break. I think I think Kobe's here for a long time. Yeah, it's interesting. He survived a lot so far. There was I never forget when Jason Jason boy did basically written the Kobe Altman is a dead man walking piece. And at the time he was 100% like it seemed like he was 100% right. And then every every time one of those pieces would come out Kobe just like rose from the ashes and escaped at all. And now he's been in such a spot. And I think Dan really likes him. And I he just he's just been here long enough and done enough that I think he's gonna.
He's got a pretty long runway all things considered. I do not mean this in a way that might be might sound cynical. I think one of Kobe's best assets or best abilities might be his ability to lead up as it were and to kind of handle Dan. I feel the same way about Jimmy Haslam. I think Andrew Barry understands how to work with with Jimmy Haslam with some of his eccentricities or itchy trigger finger and I I don't think that's something that can be discounted. I think that is a real skill. I think. If I like Phil Savage and had that same skill, I think Phil Savage never would have gotten fired. I think the heart of the Dan Gilbert and Kobe Altman relationship in my eyes is the idea that he is wildly aggressive and he's willing to make moves and wants to consistently be bold within his plays. And that's just speaks to Dan's language. So it's almost like a bird's of a feather type thing and they found each other. Oh my God. All right, Ole Miss says they beefed up security as Lane Kiffin's return is this is one of the police officers quotes going to make Marty Grob look like a backyard barbecue.
They're ready for this. They've sent over all sorts of police officers not only from the New Orleans police department, but also part of the LSU police department and they are they're really concerned for Lane Kiffin safety in this one. Should they be is the question. I honestly think Ole Miss has completely missed the mark. The guy elevated you to a place you hadn't been in a very, very long time. And yes, he left in kind of the pursuit of a championship. Y'all were winning a championship with Lane Kiffin or anybody else last year. I think this isn't what happened at Tennessee with Lane. It's certainly not what happened at Alabama with Lane in Nick Sabin. What USC? I mean, yeah. This is I think Ole Miss is really handling this in a way that lacks class as as compared to what Lane is really guilty of which is being a careerist which is every coach on the freaking planet. So it hasn't happened yet. And so I'm holding out hope that they surprise us and that's a lot to expect out of Ole Miss. Okay. Like I don't think it's going to happen. I'm seeing a lot of videos. I don't think it's going to happen, but you read on it is 100% right. That's how they should feel about Lane.
And it should be thankful that he was able to take the program to where he was where it is. And they should be thankful that they were able to be in the college football playoff. They wouldn't have been able to do that without Lane Kiffin. 216-474-0092 is this the most important game of Lane Kiffin's career? We'll have more on that on a football Friday. Browns and Buckeneers down Yonder. Another Baker Mayfield revenge game. Potentially we've also got to get more into Guardians V a's in the Guardians chances here to take the division and maybe the number two seed. In the American League should be noted Jimmy Horn Jr. Practicing with the Browns today. Jordan Schultz tweeting out a video of Jimmy Horn Jr. Practice. He's wearing the number 19. Yes he is. Setrick Tomin no longer uses it. So I guess it's open for anybody. Nor is Reggie Ragland. Nor is Jojo Natson. Brasad Perryman Corey Coleman. Yeah, Corey Coleman was the big one. Could we just could we give that number to somebody who actually has a chance to be good in the NFL? Is that are we just going to continue to besmirch Bernie Kosars number? I would just like to know. What are what Bernie thinks about that? He's Bernie is so awesome and so. He's got to be about the Browns that like when people outside of Cleveland think of the Cleveland Browns. I think a Bernie Kosar yet his number isn't retired. Yes, something like that. But listen, I'm sure that's not a sign of how an organization's run. This being said.
Browns, Buck's Tampa Bay Sunday Baker Mayfield to Sean Watson to get the Tampa Bay shot of things we had out of the Y chart. Right. We make it right call Kyle right hotline of the Pewter report Scott Reynolds joins us right now. Scott, welcome to the show. Thanks for having me. Well, it's great to have you here. So I guess I know it's early, but it doesn't seem like Browns fans are expecting much of a competitive game on Sunday. How are the Tampa Bay faithful looking at this game? With some because I think a lot of bucks fans were anticipating that the Bunk and years were going to beat the Bengals last week and start the season 2 and 0 with another win over the the Browns coming up this Sunday. Todd Bowles that's been the M.O. All four years in Tampa Bay this team has started off 2 and 0. But that came to a screeching halt on Sunday up in Cincinnati. And the team didn't play that well. Baker Mayfield had three fumbles. The Bucks lost four fumbles in that game. They lost the game by a minus three on the turnover margin.
And even though it was a six point and his Bucks team looked well at times, but not well at times either the Tampa Bay defense of line, which was rebuilt this off season through the draft with Rubin Bay and junior and Demante K. Part three for agency without quitting Muhammad coming in from Detroit, A. Sean Robinson coming over from the K. A lot of Panthers. No sacks on Joe burrow. The only sack was by rookie inside linebacker. Josiah Trader on a blitz. He also had a pick six, but no pass rush really for the Bucks defense. That was a big huge disappointment. Joe burrow with the least pressured quarterback in week one. Yeah, it's interesting you talk about the defensive side of things because we're trying to figure out if the Sean can look better. We think we think we have an idea that Jacksonville is going to be pretty good this year. But what were the expectations for this Todd Bulls defense entering the season? There's going to be a lot better that they were going to pressure the quarterback. Typically, Todd Bulls teams get just under 50s x 48, 47, 46.
All right, we're going to pop Scott on hold there. Michael, can you check about the phone quality there? It's a great question though. Well, you know, it's interesting because he's got one of those scenarios where I think a lot of browns fans can exist in as well. It's like this defense is supposed to be much better than what it showed week one, but the proof is in the pudding, so to speak. Like, how do you have a Todd Bulls defense that leads by sacks not have a single sack last week against Joe burrow? Like, it's a very confounding and confusing thing for I imagine a lot of Tampa Bay fans. All right, we're going to head back out of the white chart right. We make it right. Call Kyle right hotline. Scott, sorry about that. Welcome back. No worries. Yeah, I was just saying that there was a lot of a few expectations about an increased bucks pass rush. It didn't happen yet. 37 sacks last year, not a good start to the 2026 season with just one sack. And none of those coming from a defensive lineman. Yeah, and now it's it's fascinating. Sorry. So Baker got paid and since Baker got paid, would you feel like he'll have you always open for chips on his shoulder, right?
If you have more of a chip on a shoulder to prove that the contract was worth it, or do you feel like you're going to have him just kind of maybe maybe ease into the deal and will feel satisfied with all the amount of money that he got. Yeah, I think you tried to do a little too much last week and that resulted in three fumbles. And I think we're going to see a more focused Baker may feel trying to play more within himself. Granted, there's going to be some emotions, right? It's not just going up against this former team. He's going up against the quarterback into Sean Watson, who essentially took his job, right? And so I think that Baker does want to have the last laugh in this and that only happens if the bucket years win. So getting a win is first and foremost, enjoying that win with a little bit of revenge comes afterwards. But Baker's going to play within himself and not have the turnovers that he had last week. You know, since joining the bucket years in 2023, he's fumble 35 times. That's the most in the league during that span with 20 fumbles lost.
So he's got to play a much cleaner game for the bucket years to do what they think they're going to do, which is get a win on Sunday. Scott, I think Baker may feel just had a different offensive coordinator from season to season all but the 2020 and 2021 season. How much talk about there is, you know, fourth, fourth season in Tampa Bay, first year was canalas. He gets the panthers job. Then it was Liam Cohen. He gets the Jags job. And then obviously last year's offensive coordinator was dismissed after he disappointing season. You're on to your fourth defense like our offensive corner. How much of talk has there been about that kind of instability around Baker and his ability to kind of overcome that? Yeah, I mean, you know, this has been a good bucket near team, but it hasn't been a great bucket near team. I think that's part of the reason why you look at that offensive play collar quarterback continuity around the league. That's really where you see that manifest itself in teams becoming great. And I think until Baker may feel it has that consistency. I mean, it's a tribute to him. He's got a high football like you and he can go from learning system to system to system, you know, from year to year to year, but that's not a deal.
And that's not really been the bucket years fault, right? I mean, you can't fall Dave canals for taking a head coaching job one of 32 Liam Cohen did the same thing that was back to back years, as you mentioned, and they didn't get the results under Josh Grasard. So they're on to Zach Robinson. I think maybe the saving grace here with Robinson is he was on that Rams team in 2022 that he spent the last five games with. And Robinson was the Rams quarterbacks coach at the time. Liam Cohen was the was the past game coordinator under Sean McVey. So I think they're going to get a little bit more of that Baker mayfield that he was under Liam Cohen, which was 41 touchdowns, 4500 passing yards, 71.4% completion percentage in a pro bowl. That's the type of Baker mayfield. They're hoping that Zach Robinson can deliver this year is Baker, but loved or just liked by the Tampa fans. He's loved. I mean, he really is. He has got a blue collar personality. This is a blue collar town. His, his, you know, he's the engine of this buck in your team, right? He's the heartbeat of this team, not just the offense, but the team itself.
And he wears his heart on the sleeve. He's very passionate person. He's a man of out town. He's at raised games. He's at lightning games. He's drinking beer with the offensive line. He has grown up so much from his time in Cleveland. And, and, you know, he had some instant success to this team won nine games in the division title. And they want to play off game against the Eagles in his first season. So right up the bat, it was a very good, you know, a good step forward for Baker. And he kind of won this Tampa Bay crowd over pretty quickly. All right, Scott. So I always love to hear how the opposing side views the Browns, because I always think like, all right, how do we beat Tampa Bay? Right? So from, from your perspective, and what you know of Tampa, what's the recipe to beating this browns team? I think getting out early on a lead, you saw what happened last week in Jacksonville 31 nothing by the third quarter, you know, and, and, and, and I think Tampa Bay has, they've got to get the pass rush going. I think we're going to see a lot of bounce back in years.
This week, rather than just buccaneers, a lot of players, Rubin Bain, Vita, Vaya, Yaya, Diyabi, and that defensive front, they really are going to be loaded for Bayer this week after being shut out in the fact department. And even the pressure department, really. So I would expect the Sean Watson to be under siege. I think Todd Boles is going to blitz him a lot where Tampa Bay has to be a little careful is they give up big plays to the tight end micaseki with the leading receiver. How we made your mother is the how I met your mother rewatch podcast with me Josh Radner and series co creator Craig Thomas follow how we made your mother wherever you get your podcasts for the Bengals, not key Higgins, not your March a five catches 78 yards and a touchdown.
Harold Fanon Jr. could have a big day at Ray Jay the bucks just don't cover the tight end well when it comes to Todd Boles defense. The other thing to is we're going to expect some Todd Munk and RPO game from his Georgia days from his Ravens days as a play caller. And these linebackers are pretty aggressive and going downhill Josiah Trotter the rookie. Alex and Zaloni had a terrible game last week in Cincinnati. He's going to want to a tone for that performance and that might cause him to be a little over aggressive and bite on some of those RPO fakes and you might see Casey can tips you own down the slot or Harold Fanon Jr. being the beneficiary running routes behind the linebackers. Vegas seems to think this is an eight and a half point spread. It's obviously moved because the public money is a lot on Tampa Bay here. If you were playing odds maker you're setting the line yourself. Where would you set it for this game? That's a great question. So the bucks are our O'Nan against the spread and lasting games under Todd Boles. So there's that bit of history they have to overcome also a quirky stat Todd Boles is the head coach in Tampa O'Nan five now including last week's loss to the Bengals against the end of the season.
Against the end against the AFC North. So if you're playing the stack maybe it's a closer game than you expect this feels like it should be a bounce back game for Baker may field for the bucks defense. I would suspect that that the talent differential is going to show up on Sunday. The only thing that might be an equalizer was is it's supposed to rain and of course that that can benefit either team just depends on which way the ball bounces and how slippery it is on the field. It feels like eight points should be about right. I don't have a problem with the bucks having the advantage by eight points in this game. Scott really strong stuff we appreciate you and I I really hope you don't enjoy the game that much on Sunday because I got to be honest with you. I need this one more than I think Baker needs this one. I really need a win. We love Baker on this show but wait I just I can't take another 30 40 10 bud. Hey I covered the bucket years for what they call the decade of darkness for about 10 years from Josh Freeman to James Winston and a couple quarterbacks in between.
So I feel for the Browns fans. I really do up kind of been down that road before down here in Tampa Bay. I see your decade and I I think I think I've got a tough car there. You don't get Tom Brady in a championship. I think you think got a way out of long way to go here. But we appreciate you trying to empathize you guys you did have some really crappy football there. Yeah Scott great somebody. Thank you Scott. Appreciate it. Thank you. I realized at some point I was diminishing somebody else's experience. I'm like no you also have had a rough go like you did a good job. He's trying to you know because he understands. Yeah, but well I don't even know. I mean obviously Tom Brady they were sip and champagne. It seems like they love Baker obviously, but what is that one playoff win in the time he's been there now it's two division titles is nice. But so here's what it is. It's hardly super balls. I definitely remember this as a Browns fan when the Browns had that brief. Oh little period where they look like they might. The amount of times I would go in like at that time Washington radio and be like you just keep your heads up. Like I was so pumped to be a different man. It's one day. I was like you'll join us all boats tides and lifting and whatnot and then we trade for Dishon Watson.
That great stuff from Scott Reynolds will react to that and ask ourselves what version of Baker we expecting on Sunday. That's in five minutes on 92 three the fan and NFL media analysts coming up in just about 40 minutes time. Nick and JP back with you on a football Friday and football Friday with a fan is powered by Vance auto service and tire pros finally an auto shop that listens explains and makes it easy. Great stuff with Scott Reynolds here here as a little taste to what you missed. I think you tried to do a little too much last week and that resulted in three fumbles and I think we're going to see a more focused Baker may feel trying to play more within Green of those going to be some emotions right it's not just going up against this former team he's going up against the quarterback and Dishon Watson who essentially took his job right and so I think that Baker does want to have the last laugh in in this and that's only happens at the bucket years when so getting a win is first and foremost enjoying that win with a little bit of revenge comes afterwards but Baker's got to play within himself and and not have the turnovers that he had last week you know since joining the black and ears in 2023 he's fumbled 35 times. That's the way he's going to do it.
Five times that's the most in the league during that span with 20 fumbles lost so he's got to play a much cleaner game for the bucket years to do what they think they're going to do which is get a win on Sunday. And again a great stop from Scott Reynolds of the pew to report I really I'm calling on Baker may feel to be a real friend to Browns fans. I know he's not a friend of that organization but he could do a real solid for us on Sunday by maybe not playing within himself and maybe trying to do too much. And maybe just again just giving us a little bit of hope to keep this game close so that we can come away being like hey they almost and then you know that would just be a great thing if Baker still loved Browns fans the way he says he does hope is that he just gets too high and then he just he just tries to make too many plays and it looks exactly like it didn't Cincinnati I three fumbles lost is insane for a quarterback in one week usually the leader every years around like six or eight somewhere around. Yeah, no number in between just six or eight or eight. Yeah, it's just never really anything else between that eight that's my forget. Wow. Well, sometimes you have seven or eight. Okay, sometimes seven or eight six or five or six sometimes happens.
Yeah, six sometimes happens. Well done. Well done. But I really do feel like Baker is going to I mean if he can he's going to rub it in like there's no other way of looking at it. And I don't know what Browns fan out there that thinks he's just going to stink up the joint on Sunday. No, but I do think if he depending on how even keel Baker comes into this game. If he has an early U.S. and all of a sudden he's starting to feel the pressure of wanting to rub the Browns faces in it. Could I see Baker having a similar game to way he had last week. Yes, maybe not three fumbles exactly, but certainly could I see enough turnovers and that just takes the pressure off the Browns. Yeah, because in a weird way, they were so non competitive in week one, so non competitive and it happens so quickly. Like Tampa has pressure on them because they they don't want to start Oh and two. You heard Scott say they've started 2 and 0 every year. Todd Bulls has been the head coach. They are numbers of teams when you make the playoffs. You start Oh and two. I mean, just it just gets sliced in half. But the Browns pressure. I think is much more insidious because you start Oh and two in your competitive. And it feels like the season is over.
And you haven't even made it to a home game yet. So the hard part though is that we haven't gotten to the easy part of the schedule and I've been telling people this for a while, but it bears repeating. These are the two hardest teams are going to play outside of the AFC North. This is it Jacksonville and Tampa Bay. Those are the two hardest teams are going to play outside of the AFC North. And so, at least that's what Vegas believes with their spreads in their line. So like this is it was never expected to go easy when you're initially eight and a half point dogs and six and a half point dogs against these two teams. That was never going to be. I don't know why people thought that was going to be an easy layup. But you had to outperform expectations. You can't lay down and die. But you had to outperform expectations. But it will get easier. We have a lot of easier teams on the docket. I'm just looking at the call screener thinking the callers we've had today. It does feel like Browns fans are very much in a futile dirge sort of mood today. So should I not sprinkle a little bit of hope on this third sandwich? Hence what type of hope you're talking about. Like if you say something like you think that the Browns are going to win this weekend. I don't think anyone is not
to believe you. No, no, no, no, we can't do that for a while. I thought that was the case. But like again, again, it all it's all in the parameters of what type of hope you want to sprinkle. Because right now people aren't really receptive to the hope idea. I can give you two stats that should make you obviously. Well, okay, the first stat is and so I can give you three stats. The first one is at Baker is a turnover machine and that gives any team a chance on any given Sunday. Okay, that's that's a statement. Not a fact. Not a stat. What is a turnover machine? Give me the stat then. I got a lot of turnover. Thank you. That's again, you missed the second stat there. I as you heard Scott say the because I don't remember the exact stat Todd Bolz is bad against the spread. Okay. Okay, you remember the stat though. He said it. He said I just in covering the same spread in his last 10 years. You're welcome for that stat. That is a stat. And the third stat is actually this is that he's oh and five against the AFC north. Also a stat that's got a new year cooking with gas. Yeah, I thought you had original stats or anything. No, no, no, no, no, no, I'm not a numbers guy. No, I know you're not. I know you're not. I know you're not. Which is really that's why it was perfectly on par that the first number you would give us was actually just a statement.
Yeah, exactly. I know. Yeah, that's how who cares about the specific number? You just know backers going to turn over. He turned them all over three times last week and that's a lot. Why it's nice that you highlighted that though is the idea that Todd Bolz, even if he wants to blow teams out has been playing teams awfully close. Yeah. And this is like that's what I so when I threw out the Twitter poll earlier and I was like, are you expecting the browns to be competitive against the box? I knew I knew I would not win the conversation. I knew if people would be leaning towards no, I didn't know it's going to be 90 to 10%. I expect I will be incredibly disappointed in disheartened if the browns aren't competitive on Sunday. I think that is I think that's such a low bar for week two of the NFL season and believe me, I share every single concern anyone's had with the Sean Watson. But this team I don't think is an oleg with the team we played last week and I was wrong about the jacks. The jacks rather I could be wrong about the bucks here. This game presents itself as something that can be winnable. And if it's not, guys, that's a five alarm fire.
Well, I saw here's the thing. I think there's two things that Browns fans should really be hoping is just throughout a week one. Are they stats? They're not. Okay. Jacksonville is just awesome at football. Okay. That's got to be one thing that Brown, every Browns fan just has to make peace with the idea that Trevor Lawrence just morphed into an MVP caliber quarterback and was able to make throws that it didn't matter for his playing the 85 bears or playing the Browns like it was he was just going to complete those passes. It was going to be awesome. And then the other thing is it's more it's more the idea that I lost my second thought now. I got thrown off with the stats. Yeah. Yeah. I got thrown off with the stats. Wow. We had it. That's got to be really tough when you're trying to throw to something. We got thrown out of it. James, you up about. You can't remember what it was. Usually I can keep it. Yeah. Keep it there. That's a real shame. Really, really real. Damn. We were not for that one. Yeah. I was up feeling real good here at a football Friday on a feel good Friday, two and six, four, seven, four, double, nine, two. What version of Baker you expecting on on Sunday? The good news for Browns fans is a vengeful Baker has just as much chance of being, oh my God,
what the hell is he doing, Baker? Then oh my God, what the hell is he doing, Baker? I'm worried about vengeful Baker. One of those was a good one. Yeah. I'm worried. I'm worried about vengeful Baker. Anytime he's got a chip on his shoulder, he just he rises the occasion. That's what's funny about the analysis out of last week. I get it. It's a game one. I understand you just got paid. You can't tell me that Baker Mayfield was playing because he was so nervous about last week or trying to show everybody every no, no, no, no, no, these are the type of games. Historically, these are the games that Baker gets up for. Chase, welcome to the show. Happy football Friday and the like. Yes, sir. Thank you guys so much, huge fan. And I'm going to put this out there real quick. The sign Watson is not a dummy in. Let me clarify this real quick. Okay. He is trying to get cut or benched. He's made his money. He doesn't care anymore. And he's just saying the things that he says because he knows he sucks. All right. So. So this is tough. I know Lock and Forehead. I guess we
would call it a report about something similar in Chase. We appreciate you. That basically, Dishon is trying to call the Browns bluff. At this point, if you look at two of his press conferences within a three week span, it certainly aids that narrative. The differences though, as much as Dishon has been paid, he can have another $200 million in his career. If he ever rebounded and started playing well again, he might be playing himself completely out of the NFL with how he's handling himself both on and off the field. Right. What's interesting about that as Ovegas just yesterday came out with a line and whether Dishon would be able to play for another team next year. And they have it at 59% right now is where they're there. They're thinking is that he would that he be able to latch on to another team. And so I don't know. I don't know if Dishon's spin is nobody could do it with the Browns. Browns are toxic. Browns stink. Look at what I was given and then give me another chance. But if you keep making comments like this and you keep making yourself unplayable, like there's no other team that's going to take a chance on that. Now, one of the other
big conversations that have propped up this week and it certainly bears conversation today because of Josh Allen's five touchdown performance, three-and-a-yard performance last night, is Browns fans saying the biggest mistake in history wasn't trading. Baker may feel then trading for Dishon Watson. It's going back to 2018 and taking Baker one instead of Josh Allen. That's also aided by the fact that Todd Haley, the Browns offensive coordinator that year said we could have had sake one at one and Josh Allen at four. And I here's what I really struggle with. Baker's career has to be seen as a success story because he had four play callers in his first three years. As a matter of fact, I think we're on play caller nine in his career. It's got to be around there because that we even even midway through the Tampa stuff. I think it was like, I thought it was 10. I thought we were in double digits. And so the idea that this guy has had that many play callers. Josh Allen himself had won the first four years in Buffalo, the stability in Buffalo,
which is wild that we're saying that because there wasn't a lot of stability before Mcdermott showed up, but the stability in Buffalo is a huge reason why Josh Allen was able to succeed. I think anyone saying, oh, Josh Allen would have been this Josh Allen and Cleveland doesn't realize how raw Josh Allen was and how deaf to a touch the bills had to have to make this work. I think if you thought Baker was a disaster in Cleveland, I don't know what Josh Allen would have been in Cleveland. Yeah, there was also some developing of Josh Allen that had to happen. And like the scouting report on him was always he could throw it over the barn. You just didn't know if he could hit the barn. And clearly, Dave will got the best out of them. I just don't think we would have been able to do that. The entire time that we've been talking about Baker may feel to any other quarterback. Who's the quarterback? The Browns have developed. Who's the guy that they've actually made better? Like Baker, Baker succeeded because Baker was great at football. Baker didn't succeed because Hugh Jackson taught him how to play the game or even Todd Monkin in the one year he was here with Freddie Kitchens taught in the game. Like Baker succeeded because Baker succeeded.
Yeah, I mean, even if you look at it, Tampa Bay, like I think Baker's career has been bettered by Dave Canalis and in Liam Cohen. He said, he said, he said, he said, he's just Todd bulls in Cleveland. He had Kevin Stofansky. Look what Kevin's been without Baker. He had Freddie Kitchens. He had Hugh Jackson. Like, no, but why do you think it's changed for him in many respects? We can talk about the maturity side of things, but Canalis has been revitalized Geno Smith and then came over and revitalized Baker Mayfield. And then the year, the one year he had with Liam Cohen, who right now I'm convinced just walks on water, 41 touchdowns, 4,500 yards. Are you kidding me? There's no one type of season that is. That's insane. That is MVP numbers that Baker may feel put up two years ago with Liam Cohen. I just don't want to acknowledge it. That's the kind of season that the Cleveland media expects from Dishon. Seriously, that's been insane. 4,500 yards, 41 touchdowns. You kidding me? All right, let's go with Greg in Mayfield. Greg, welcome to the show. Hey, thank you. I love you guys. Keep doing what you're doing. It's awesome. Thank you.
Keep going. Just sharing my wife and I actually flying out to Tampa tomorrow. We have tickets for the game on Sunday in Tampa. We have Browns Baker Mayfield T-shirts. We're actually going to be sporting there. I was surprised. How does that work? Are they like, are they Browns colors, but then say Baker Mayfield or what out of the above? Yeah, they're old. Yeah, they're old Browns like Jersey T-shirts with this number in name out. Oh, yeah, that's cool. I bet there's going to be a lot of Baker Mayfield Browns jerseys out there, but I bet Baker goes around and signs every one of them before the game. That's my wife is hoping she's still a huge Baker fan. Yeah, good about that. Thanks, Greg. Thanks, everybody. We appreciate you. Okay. Thank you guys. Keep up the good work. Thank you so much. I will tell you, I still have my Baker jersey. I don't wear a lot of jerseys. I haven't been able to get rid of it because there are players. One, I don't wear it a lot because it's a number six and fat guys and single digit jerseys just look ridiculous. But two, like as much as I would love to wear a Mason Graham jersey, you know, like it then hit the same if it's not a quarterback, right? Are you quarterback
exclusive with the jerseys? I get it. I get it. I had a Joe Thomas jersey. I did have a Danny Shelton jersey. Joe Thomas should have been a classic. Vital clips. Follow and listen to fly on the wall everywhere you get your podcast. Yeah. That one doesn't fit anymore. That's tough. It's because I'm too skinny. That's what it is. Yeah. Yeah. I was 700 pounds when I bought the Joe one. It was a poncho actually. Yeah. Yeah. Two and six, four, seven, four, 0092. What version of Baker are you expecting? Is it the good, invention, Baker, or is it the bad, vengeful Baker? That more on the Josh Allen versus Baker may field versus Dishon, Watson conversation and one NFL coach being exposed. That's in five minutes on 92, three, the fan. Take the bad with you wherever you go. Listen to us on the Odyssey, I heart radio or tuning apps. Brett Coleman coming up. Been just about 15 minutes time. Yo guards big big series tonight does scare me a little bit just because it's a bullpen game and
it just takes one bad Franco Alamon moment to, you know, for this to be an inexplicable loss to a booty cheeksteam. I did see that the water is going to be batting third playing right field. Yeah, that's good to say. That is good. And in a surprising twist, I was actually looking at some of the numbers on the bullpen over the really since the All-Star break. And in my head, I thought there was going to be not miserable. I thought maybe middle of the pack. I think most most guardians fans would think pretty miserable though. Yeah. Complete opposites. I actually really dominant in many ways. And I don't know why that perception is being a little off. Tough five in many, many categories since the All-Star break. I think I think it's that you have the sporadic. What what the hell was that out of Craig Yoho? You have the sporadic. I did mention the Alamon performance. I think it's that you just can't trust them to be lights out in every facet, which is what you say. It's funny because I mean, I think if you ask somebody, they'd say they only trust Kate Smith and Kate Smith alone, but the numbers suggest a completely different story than what we are watching day in day out. I mean, it's just a, I don't feel like
I have confidence in that bullpen. Again, since the All-Star break, though, top five in a million different categories. You know who I think is the most important guarding it over the next nine games, the water. No, it's actually not an everyday player. Because to me, the beauty of the lineup is every night it's somebody else. It's Roqueo. It's Bisonnets, the lottery. It's cozy. It's SWAT God himself, PD Halpen. Oh, that's SWAT God. Yeah. It's Tanner Bible because Tanner Bible to me has been the most infuriating pitcher this year. I think he's much better than his number say. He's meaning like he's pitching below himself. I need Gavin to be Gavin. I need Parker Messick to be Parker Messick. But if you could guarantee me Tanner Bible actually pitches the way we were accustomed to him pitching going into this season, I think you're going to win the A.O. Central. Well, I mean, so he's going to have two games out of the next nine. And so like it's obviously going to matter. It's going to matter a great deal. It's just, you just can't have any turd starts.
You just can't. Yeah, but Gavin also has those two though. That's the other thing about this. Is like the what you call turd starts. Those starts we end up with that's not quality starts. Getting getting five runs and six runs and just getting just blitzed basically like Gavin's susceptible. It's just the same way that Tanner Bible is. Yeah, but Tanner's done it so much more consistently. And I think if you can steal tonight and tomorrow night's game becomes if you steal this, then we're going in and we we feel like we're really playing with House money on Sunday. I mean, I hear what you're saying. There's so many parts of this team that will make you shake your head and make you wonder what exactly he is going on. But the idea is that you you got a chance to play for the two seat. It's incredible. All right, two one six four seven four double. Oh nine two one. I hear from you guys. Who is the most important guardians player over the next nine games? We we've mentioned the Josh Allen part of yesterday's game. We have not mentioned sad Dan Campbell who is in the post game. Even at the half. Yeah, he looked like a defeated man. And I will tell you, I think there's some dirty pool going on with with Dan Campbell.
And I'm just going to point to Polly Market football tweeting out Dan Campbell with Ben Johnson and then Dan Campbell without Ben Johnson. Yeah. Because it should be noted. There was time before Ben Johnson is the play caller in Detroit that should be stricken from the record. If you want to do starting last year and going forward, I'll allow it because they're oh and two this year and they had a bad year last year. But trying to put the the pre Ben Johnson numbers in their fields. I'll say, um, this and Genuous in that argument. Which ones did they put the fact that Detroit ranked 29th and yards per game and 28th and scoring one more time? I said, which numbers did they put the fact that they ranked 29th and yards per game and 28th and scoring before Johnson officially became the OC? I know they just did his official record. That's all. Oh no, oh, I just I actually want to his imprint on the game. Like what he actually did offensively. The they come up that the Lions offense had in you can you can you can point at it directly to how bad they were to then when Ben Johnson gets there, it gets the offense in 2022 and immediately became elite fifth and scoring fourth and total offense. And it wasn't just a one
year spike 23 and 24 that the number one offense in the NFL like this is all it all went directly with Ben Johnson. So when people last night are putting out the the tweets of Ben Johnson or this is Dan Campbell without Ben Johnson and it's a photo of Shane Gillis. I think we have to pay attention to it. Yeah, by the way, in 2022, didn't they just get Jameer kid didn't didn't I'm on Rossane Brown finally take a step. Actually, I might have been as rookie here, but like they also got talent. Like that's the other thing here and listen, it's fair to say they were really they were not very good last year. It's also fair to say that even this year they've not been very good. Three of their five starting offensive linemen were banged up all week long. They were starting juice juice, drugs for God's sakes. I mean, the fact that they had and this is not an offensive side of things. The fact that they started that game with both their safeties out was a big recipe for last night. And Adon Hutchinson getting hurt last year. Like I listen, I think the the roster is a little thinner the last two years. They're they're in a retooling phase here. But that's what
happens. I think that's just as culpable as like Dan Campbell doesn't have a superpower. And by the way, I still think there's room to be said. Yeah. A coach like Dan Campbell is more it's like Davos Sweeney without the the offensive coordinators that got him to Sean Watson and you know, 30 points at 35 points a game at Clemson. Like offensive coordinators are more and the coordinators are more important to him than maybe they are Sean McVey. It doesn't mean the guys lost a special sauce. I don't know. I don't know. I feel like we see this decent amount in the NFL when the guy they promote up or they let the OC go and then they they still have the head coach there and people are like, well, do we do we make the right call? And I don't think Lions fans are guessing whether or not they want to keep Dan Campbell. Dan Campbell deserves to be there. But if you ask the Lions fan right now, give me Ben Johnson or give me Dan Campbell, I think most would say Ben Johnson. So I think that's fine. I just think I think saying Dan Campbell's being exposed. You're not saying that, but that is the narrative out there. I think that's incredibly prisoner of the moment through the first two games of the season. I think the Lions are still going
to be a fine team this year. I think they'll still be a fine team this year. Their schedule says they should be a fine team this year. They play a lot of really bad teams. And so like they'll be all right. They probably win 8, 9, 10 games. But did the offense take a noticeable step back last year? Yes. And through two weeks, again, overreacting this early, but through two weeks, it does look a little different. 2 1 6 4 7 4, 009 2, a stand Campbell being exposed. By the way, Gary and Cleveland wanted to add, we're doing a time to take you, Gary. He's saying hunter gatties is the key. I don't mind that. I think if you want to say any one of the high leverage relievers are the key, are most important Guardian player over the next 9 games. I think that's just as valid is saying either Tanner or Gavin Williamson. I mean, he's going to have an imprint on a lot of the a lot of these games. More impromptu imprint as far as will they win or lose, then I don't want to say Tanner by be Tanner by be going to start two of these games. But like, you're going to have gatties and high leverage spots. They tend to use them there. We got Brett Coleman NFL media analyst in five minutes on 92 3, the fan. Welcome back on a football Friday and
a feel good Friday on a let's get the sweep of the A's Friday, Nick Wilson, Jonathan Peterland with you. And while we get ready for Guardians A's, can the Guardians take the division here? We do have Gerald Ryder coming up in about 40 minutes time as well to talk about that. And of course, the big Browns Buckingeers game on Sunday. What can we expect from Dishon? What can we expect from Baker? We're starting having that conversation right now. So we head out to the Wise chart. We make it right. Kyle Wright hotline and welcome on Brett Coleman. He is an NFL media analyst and you can see him on NFL pro which streams Monday and Friday at 5 p.m. Eastern on NFL channel NFL plus in the NFL's YouTube channel and the NFL app providing detailed film breakdown and statistical breakdowns along with Trevor Sikama. You can also follow him on action Instagram at Brett Coleman as well as subscribe to his YouTube channel also at Brett Coleman. Brett, welcome to the show. Man, thanks for having me. How are you guys doing?
Emotionally? Well, you know, it's been a week. No, it's been, listen, Jonathan and I are, if you want to say we're anti Dishon, I don't think that is a wrong proclamation to make. And so we haven't really felt like telling anyone we told you so though because this is the sum of pretty much every one of our worst fears. So we can't even enjoy the, I was right part of it. So again, I'm an outsider. I'm not a bronze fan. But I have partaken in the culture. I've been to Cleveland for a game. I, I partied in Muni Lot, you know, during the tailgate, wearing a Dishon Kaiser jersey, which may have been ill advice. It was actually the game that I was at. It was, you remember the Cardinals game where Baker hurt his shoulder again. Yeah, I was at that game. And the atmosphere pregame and the atmosphere post game, I can't remember a wild or drop off. And it's almost like the good people of Cleveland like felt something bad was coming.
And ever since that day, it's just been repeated trauma for this fan base. My sympathy is goes out to everybody. It's been a rough few years. We'll accept those sympathies, I think. Yeah, thank you. We'll take as many as we can get right now. We're just collecting sympathy from everybody. All right. So when you looked at it, was there anything redeemable that you saw with Dishon Watson? A lot of people said week one is just a lie. And we shouldn't take too much into what we saw. Do you agree with that? I mean, the completion percentage was high. He got completions, but I'm of the opinion that unless you are getting absolutely shelled up front, which they really weren't. I thought the offensive line equated itself. Okay. You got to just make a play. And his pass or rating fell off from 131 seven, I believe with no pressure down to 40 under pressure. You compare that to Bryce Young last week, who actually did have a lot of pressure in his face for most of that game against Chicago, even though it's the Bears defense. Like he was under pressure a lot. His pass or rating was 133 under pressure. Lamar was in the 130s under pressure. Josh was
like, $20 under pressure. If you're going to be paid a quarter billion dollars, you better be really good under pressure, especially when you're not even facing it on on that. I think it's like 12 under pressure, drop acts of like that. And I thought Casey looked good. I thought tens L obviously look good. But receivers are better than last year. The lines better than last year make the throw. Right? Like people aren't spending their hard earned money out there when diesel 650 a gallon groceries are super expensive. We could barely afford to watch you play. You're a quarter billionaire, Dishonn. Make the throw. And he's just not doing it. And it frustrates me to know and because people point to the completion percentages. Yeah. What do you do with it? Nothing. They were down like 34 to three. What are we doing? Well, this is, it sounds like you're playing right off of the Dishonn Watson playbook because you just have too high of expectations. That's what this is. Yeah. It's not that he played poorly for a guy that is now in his 10th year in the NFL. It's that we have too high of expectations.
But let's let's go here because Todd Munkett in this week said, well, you know, he only had two weeks of full practices with the ones because he had been splitting them in the quarterback Derby with Shedor. So what do you think is more likely this week against Tampa Bay of very blitz heavy team, by the way, a step back for Dishonn Watson or a step forward? God help the people that believe that there's a step back. I mean, I just not helped Dishonn if there's a step back. First of all, I didn't think that he should have been starting week one anyway. I don't, I don't know what the reasons for it were quite frankly at this point. If they lose big this week and maybe they will because I mean, Tampa fought back to being within six points of since he will turning it over four times in that game. You know, people said the the bucks had no pass rush. It's like, well, Joe Burrow got it out in under two and a half seconds and almost an 80% rate on all of his throws. Good luck getting pressure against that. Like, this is a very good bucks team. And since you just played them the perfect way,
they're going to be out for blood. We know Baker's going to be out for blood. If they lose by double digits in this game, which they very well might, how can you possibly not put Shadour out there in week three? Like, this has to be it. This has to be the last chance. If they don't do it this week, they're never going to do it. Well, okay. So what I've been maintaining for a while and again, I agree with you and the idea and in both of us, we would have started Shadour instead of Dishonn knowing this brown seemed the way that we do though. I just, I think that it has to be undeniable for them. And they have to make sure that there's no chance that the old Dishonn Watson is coming back. And I, I don't know that after two weeks, they'll be able to satisfy that thought process that they had for six months and say, well, we really gave it a try the way that they at least told us for six months, they were going to. Could Dishonn have been that much better than him and practiced like, how much better are we talking? Because that's what the line was. No, he wasn't. He wasn't. We were there. We were practicing. Yeah, and we wasn't better. And we were told it was all the
stuff we didn't see. Yeah, operationally was the big thing. That was the big key. Everyone out of Dishonn is way better operationally. And he's way better in a lot of places that we can't see. Okay. So they're getting lined up correctly to throw it for five yards. Okay. I just thought we were doing lined up correctly. We had two big game penalties. It should have been a third if Munkin didn't save him with the time out. So you guys, no, Trevor Segur, he's my partner in NFL Pro. He was doing the pregame show before the week one kickoff. And it's 10am West Coast when kickoff happens, which is great, by the way, left coast, best coast for watching football. By the time they wrapped up the pregame show, which was a couple minutes for kickoff, and then he walked upstairs to where we were watching the game with all the next chance to ask people, the Browns turned it over. How is this sustainable? I just, I can't, I can't understand or support the thought process. I'm not even saying she'd do her play well last year. Like he was fine. Fine is better than that. All right, Brad. So I, I think one of the
reasons why the Dishon performance has been honestly, still hasn't gotten a level of maybe analysis that we should expect for exactly what it was was the defense really looked rough. And there were some questions about what was happening around Dishon. I think if just those things go well, we should expect the Browns to be competitive. The defense shows up the way we're expecting them to and again, better performance around Dishon. Is that a justifiable hope to have in week two against Tampa Bay? If they can keep it close and stay in the game, maybe they could get on track. You know, Dishon did play better in the second half compared to the first half. The issue was Trevor Lawrence, just played out of his mind. That throw to Josh Cameron at the back of the end zone. Like, who does he think he is trying to throw, but he hit it like in between four Browns defenders. That that one, you got to tip, you know, tip the cap to him just an unbelievable throw. There was
a few unbelievable throws he made in that game. And you know, you throw in a turnover on top of that, you're giving them extra extra possessions. They're scoring quickly. You're in like a three-possession hole super early. It's almost impossible to dig out of that even if your quarterback is playing super well. They just need to not fall into that kind of early hole again and keep it close. Try to get to the fourth quarter with it being, you know, one possession game. And you can come out with the win in this one, but you can't get sheld like that early. What do you think happened to the defense? I mean, you said Trevor had just a lot of really awesome, who does he think he is type throws, but there was a lot of throws that there was a lot of wide open receivers. 10 different. Whoop. Sleep better, train smarter, recover faster and feel healthier. Understand and optimize your sleep. Get coaching and insights for every age, stay to cycle. Track over 140 habits. Get a 360 view
of your training and workouts. Never miss a second of that with a wireless and waterproof charger. Expect all new features all the time. Let's go. Print Jaguars had receptions in this game. What happened to this Brown's defense? So about 70% of their defensive structures were what's called middle field closed. Right. Middle field closed, meaning the deep middle is closed for business. We associate that with cover three, cover one, the single high safety defenses. They did that about 70% of the time.
And even under Jim Schwartz, they ran cover one a lot because their corners could handle it. They were more skewed towards cover three than cover one in this one. So still a single high safety defense, but more zone than man. And the linebackers got picked apart in zone. There were some missed assignments deep down the field, especially on these crossing routes. Stuff just wasn't getting picked up. So I think there were some real communication issues here. Not all cover three is cover three. Each team plays cover three a little bit differently. They have different rules based on formations and pre-snap motions. And what are we before motion? What are we after the motion? Everybody kind of handles different looks differently. And whatever the players were doing, they were not communicating effectively. Guys were just running a wide ass open. So maybe just kind of simplify things this week. Play more man coverage than zone coverage until we can get on our pees and queues with the zone stuff. But there's a couple snaps. Quincy was literally standing still.
I just ran behind him. You can't do that in the NFL. So just less zone. More man. Do what's worked for years. You know, leverage the fact that you have DBs that can cover and go with that. Brett Coleman of NFL pro on the Y-Shut right. We make it right. Call Kyle right hotline. So you are such a prolific ball-nower that if we just asked you about the ON1 Cleveland Browns, it would be a bit of a waste here. So we got the Thursday football game last night. The bills did a lot of good things. Lions did some good things for my fantasy team playing from behind. Is Dan Campbell being exposed as a head coach without Ben Johnson? Because that is a take that is really starting to take hold. I wouldn't say so. You know, they are banged up in the worst possible way. They have no DBs left at this point. When you have a really banged up secondary and your defense plays man coverage at a 75% it's actually kind of the opposite problem of Cleveland.
I think Cleveland can play man. It's just they weren't playing man. Detroit when they get in the red zone plays almost exclusively man and they can't play man. They just get completely torn apart in the red zone because they can't cover anybody one-on-one. They've had 10 drives reach the red zone so far this season nine of them have ended in touchdowns. So it's it's kind of a catch 22. You're damned if you do you damned if you don't but when you compound that with the offensive line injuries they were down three out of their five starters in this game which against the bill's defensive line where we're so is playing great. Deon Walker is playing out of his mind. They're just already really banged up. We're used to the lines being banged up by the end of the year. They're starting the year banged up and they just they don't have the dudes right now to play the type of football that they want to play which is aggressive and our guys are better than your guys. They're not right now because they're back ups so they need to come up with a different solution. I would argue they need to be more conservative on defense and more aggressive on offense and just start taking swings right they barely survived New Orleans in week one. They got destroyed by Buffalo in week two
no matter what the score tells you. They got a rebound and most importantly they need to come up with a better plan for how to survive with these backups. What you make of the onslaught of the scoring in week one one of the highest scoring week ones to start NFL season and forever is there trends that you're seeing actually playing out or is it just hey it was one week and it was what it was. So we almost doubled the number of explosive plays from a missed tackle in week one this year compared to last year went from like 36 to 64 I want to say somewhere around there and I mean you look no further than the Denver KC game on one day night where they missed 28 tackles they had 240 yards of offense after a missed tackle in that game. Teams just really really struggled to get guys on the ground in week one and there were some teams that were exceptions but most of them I feel like we need to go back to playing our guys in preseason and maybe having some more like real practices in August because if this is the defensive product in week one where nobody's ready
to tackle in a sport that requires tackling yeah that's the result we're going to get. All right Brett all three other AFC North teams last week they won their games and I'd like to live in a world where that's possible for the Browns but of those three teams going into this week who do you think has a chance to have the biggest rude awakening going in the week two in the AFC North. I'm fascinated to see what Sinsi does against the Houston defense because the Houston defense they allowed 36 points to Josh Allen in week one but if you're looking at you know play to play success rates and everything like that they actually had a pretty good day against Buffalo it's just Josh Allen got 155 passing yards on four throws deep down the field so if you can just eliminate the explosives and make them beat you down to down Houston actually played really well defensively in that game so the question for me is can Sinsi do that right can Sinsi get 150 plus passing yards on four throws whether it's such a mar or tea like can they hit those explosives because without those
explosives it's actually really tough sledding against this Texans defense that to me is the key question Brett Coleman on the Wyeshot right we make it right call Kyle Wright hotline NFL media analyst you can see him on NFL pro Mondays and Fridays at 5 p.m. on all the many NFL outlets there the NFL channel NFL plus the NFL's YouTube channel and the NFL app and of course hosting alongside my good buddy Trevor Sikham are there we're really just acquaintances but I like to ingratiate myself to Trevor because he's going places as his Brett you can follow Brett on both Twitter and Instagram at Brett Coleman and subscribe to his YouTube channel at Brett Coleman as well. Brett great stuff buddy appreciate you. Thanks for having me boys. Great stuff with Brett Coleman there we'll react to what he had to say and get back to a little bit of that Gardo's magic in five minutes on 92 three the fan. So I think it was there were some real communication issues here not all cover three is cover three each team plays cover three a little bit differently whatever the players
from doing like they were not communicating effectively guys were just running wide ass open so maybe just kind of simplify things this week play more man coverage than zone coverage until we can get on our pees and cues with the zone stuff but there's a couple of snaps where Quincy was literally standing still you can't do that in the NFL so it just less zone more man do what's worked for years you know leverage the fact that you have DB's that can cover and go with that. Brett Coleman of NFL media that that that's not a good nebulous term that's what NFL.com and a film network is now being referred to as NFL media analyst. Tell me about the Browns defense in week one. It did feel like week one defensively was a lot about either scheme and or the simple thing coaching is the word I was I was going to try and work around there. Yeah and to me that's the easiest thing to fix like I can't and nobody can coach up to Sean Watson if he's a broken human being or doesn't want to play for the Browns anymore play for Browns fans anymore. Hey
our guys really aren't that comfortable or maybe used to playing zone so the communication is off. Well that feels pretty fixable to me the part I don't understand. He highlights Quincy Williams who I worse pf f great out of any one of the defensive side of the ball but like that's the guy that should do well in Rootonberg system considering that Rootonberg and him have worked together in the past and the only reason why he's on the team is because Rootonberg likes him like that's the reason why he's here and so for him to be confused and as Brett puts it basically just standing and not really doing anything on plays like that's I mean that's that's bad. Yeah and I I firmly do expect the Browns to have a bounce back game because I think they're too talented to get housed that way again and I will tell you coming out of this weekend if we're still even if they keep it close if we're still talking about the defense as a train rack going into the home opener I think that might be the thing that has me most concerned as an oh and two Browns as opposed to like to me the simple fix for the offense is get that guy out there get get number four out of the
the thing and I think all of a sudden you're going to see a team that responds to the backup quarterback and should or Sanders with the defense I can't really fire Mike Rootonberg if we continue to throw a lot of zone out there or if it looks like guys aren't communicating which again to me speaks to they either don't know what they're doing or they're not comfortable with it which doesn't make any sense that they wouldn't be comfortable with each other because so many of these people have played together for multiple years does it give you any hope the idea that the Broncos led the league in Miss Tacos and week one the Browns were number two by the way but the Broncos who are supposed to have a really good defense who last year did have a really good defense just had a bunch of Miss Tacos and it feels like the theme of week one was nobody knew how to tackle it all does it does it give you any help that maybe a lot of the Browns problems was the Miss Tacling and that'll be something that'll be cleaned up not really yeah I'm no I was trying I was trying I mean it's a good point though it is that ever nobody was tackling I mean Tacling was a real problem in the NFL and week one we talked about the scoring and the scoring abundance across the NFL and week one 25 points per game highest Sunday in NFL week one history and so
like there's there was a lot of teams that were suffering on the defensive side of the ball it wasn't just the Browns prop my have is that I can look at those teams and question how serious their camps were or how intense those camps were. The Browns camp was pretty intense yeah to look the way it did I you don't get much of an excuse because they played really hard in in training camp are you expecting a bounce back from the Browns defense this weekend I'd say it can't be worse but Jacksonville could have put 50 on you last week and we go from last place in Cleveland a first place well okay now I guess technically now they're in second place again after the White Sox one I will tell you the the fact that the guardians were in first place by half a game for about a day and a half has turned people to saying well not if you don't win the division that's going to be a disappointment does make my eye twitch just a little bit I think that's a little spoiled to think just because they were in first place for half a half a day or so a day or so that people all of a sudden go you better win this division or else. Hey for me it's getting in the playoffs getting the playoffs
wild card division doesn't really matter to me get to the playoffs I prefer obviously they hand up in the two seat and you bypass the first round and everything works I will be interesting to see I don't get the perception that even if they missed the playoffs completely people would be that devastated over and call it a collapse I don't know why I feel that way but I feel like people aren't they're not holding the guardians to some massive standard here. Yeah in terms of like having standards for this team it's a little bit like trying to nail jello to a wall. Like I don't know how you have definitive opinions on a team that it feels like each month we've been having a different conversation or maybe at least recently I know the first three months of the year was wow this offense isn't any good or they're not good enough or they're really slumping whatever but the last three months it's been all the offense still isn't a good but hey look at that rotation oh wait but now the rotation isn't great hey that bull okay the bullpen's been having a week but what about the offense you know what I mean like yeah that's it's been such a the last three months have been
probably the most confusing run of guarding in spaceball and yet they've got the opportunity this weekend you take three of three from the from the A's and I really do think you're going to be in first place but on Monday by at least a game well I it was interesting about that is it's it's good that that confidence has to be coming from the white socks just collapsing as of late yeah I mean because the white socks do have they have an easier schedule and the guardians if they're going to surpass them you have to because the white socks have the tiebreaker you have to play one game better than them over these nine games yeah I mean the advantage should be Chicago white socks right now well and I mean they just can't they can't get out of their own way they're starting pitching a troche but that's why this A series is a must sweep and I never talk like that in baseball just I never do yeah Boston after this and that is yeah that is going to be that is going to be what it's going to be like there's a chance you could sweep the A's and get swept by Boston if you're not careful what's interesting is that this is the blue jays rangers series is also
this weekend and this is probably the biggest series of the weekend because they're tied two games behind the final wild card position and the loser essentially could be knocked out because Texas Toronto and Baltimore all the three that are battling with either the guardians of the white socks and that in that other playoff spot and I there's a really interesting sub plot that could happen here but what one of them is going to they could essentially take the other one out this weekend 216 474 0092 would not winning the division feel like a collapse for the guardians I have no idea how we could possibly feel that way with how wonky this season has been and again that is kudos just even vote for keeping this thing on the rails that is kudos to a very young baseball team for keeping it on the rails but like if you said right now what's the part of the the guardians team that you trust may I guess technically I could fall back on the bullpen but even then bullpen you're a bad Craig yoho moment away from me screaming at my TV I had my filter to to since the all-star break I removed my filter in between the break to September since September they're third in the
R.A. Second and Fit yeah bullpen's been fantastic I it's fun so funny people talk about this team from a bullpen perspective they act as if nobody can throw a pitch and and Kate Smith is the only one you can trust it's just not true. Yeah okay in fairness though there's a reason why I don't trust yoho that's not what's not what yoho off the hook we don't trust yoho all right yoho there is a reason why Kate Smith has had an insane amount of you know for more than an innings worth of work and I appreciate that though I like the idea that vote is not shy bringing them in a thinning close game one out two out he's not he's not shy there that tells you he doesn't trust the bullpen the same way he don't really have that great setup man that you're supposed to have like that's the interesting part about this team like there's a like you can see you can see what vote is having to deal with but the idea is in September a couple guys have really stepped up in September the bullpen obviously is one of them but like even bizana like like when you play during the stretch matters greatly towards how I think about you but this is also two you got nine games left we talk about it if it's a collapse or not yet to be written if you go one in eight
over the last nine I can call it a collapse would not winning the division feel like a collapse at this point we'll talk a little bit of the guardos in a's a little bit of the guardos expectations and a fair amount of brown spuck in ears in five minutes with Dale writer on ninety two three the fan back on afternoon tribe good afternoon Cleveland I say we have the lead coming up okay settle in just about 20 minutes here do not forget there's another guest that'll get to once I get my paper christian mannes guardians TV analyst coming up at six o'clock but we got guardos a's downtown this weekend starting tonight can the guardos get a sweep there we'll talk about that we got brown spuck in ears painfully we'll also talk about that and we welcome on dear writer brought to you by shibon jewelers Cleveland's premier jewelry store Darrell welcome back at the show good afternoon boys as a solid good afternoon I like a good afternoon more than most people and I am quite satiated
right now Darrell do you want to start guardos we must start browns you choose uh guardos put me in a good mood first well yeah all right so we were just having the conversation about this weekend the final nine games would not winning the division feel like a collapse from the guardians no because they they've been trying to run this thing down here for the last couple of weeks if not months so no I don't think it's a collapse it'll be a little disappointing because it's there for the taking but um you enter play tonight in a dead heat for first place unfortunately Chicago owns the tie breaker on them so they're gonna have to really be strong here down the stretch but uh no I'm I'm not gonna call this thing a collapse what about not making the postseason um for as often as they make the postseason it's hard for me to be disappointed when they don't but yeah I mean that and that'll uh you know uh that that'll be unfortunate here's the reality
though I don't think that even if they do get in I don't know that they're going to be challenging for anything other than just getting themselves some some playoff experience with this young ball club but um yeah I'm not gonna be throwing stuff against the wall if they miss out on the postseason all right Darrell uh I had said ten or by me so I just want to give you my answer up front give me the most important guardians player for the final nine games of the season um I'm gonna say rocio hmm he's gotta keep it going right I mean the month of September is his so I think he needs to just keep doing what he's doing all right Darrell how many fans you think this weekend are rooting against the browns um a lot a lot can't get anything past you think it's more than 50% of uh browns fans of two nid and watch this yeah yeah I think there's gonna be some hate watching going on especially if Baker goes out there and starts playing well oh yeah there'll
be a lot of hate watch it happening all right so with that do you think a step forward even a minimum one or a step back is more likely for one to Sean Watson uh I don't know that there's any steps back that he can go so I'll say step forward well if you ask him that he was you know media is it's awesome if he he asked him it's your fault my fault the fans fall that's everyone's fault but his we have been saying it's your fault for a while that makes sense yeah how much patience should we have with the defense uh I they are um grant help it uh today was like I really paid attention to what he was saying and I don't know that they're all on board with this zone thing but it just kind of sounds like hey that's what the coach wants us to do so we better get it together and we better do it the right way um and that was my takeaway after listening to him today but um yeah I mean uh I'm not going to have much patience if you as a defensive coordinator

absolutely non-existent last week in Jacksonville that needs to change on Sunday in Tampa Bay yeah I'm glad you're you're talking about this because what I'm hearing out of that locker room sounds a lot like what I heard a locker room during the Joe Woods era of we need to play fast and we need to play up to our strengths I can't I can't shake this feeling like I've got Joe Woods 2.0 there and I just why is Mike Rootenberg seemingly fumbling the bag in the way he is well I mean it's you know how it goes in the NFL Nick when you when you have change either at the head coaching position or coordinator or positionals they they want to do it their way they don't want to do it the the way the previous guy did and you know it because in their mind right if it was the right way or whatever that guy would still be there and they wouldn't so um yeah it's hard for me to push back on anything you said there uh there they're there this the way this thing is starting
I'm having flashbacks to to previous train wrecks that fans have been forced to endure with this franchise and there's there's some warning signs right now um and the defense is is right there uh with uh you know this insistence on doing it Mike Rootenberg's way instead of doing it the way that has made Denzel Ward and uh the rest of that secondary as successful as they've been in recent years I'm of the belief if it isn't broke you don't fix it the Brown's defense absolutely was not broke last year the only reason Mike Rootenberg is here is because Joe Woods after or I should say uh Jim Schwartz after not getting the head coaching job uh in his own way told the Brown's thanks but no thanks as far as staying on as defense of coordinator so here's the odd part about what you're saying though is that uh when it when it comes to trying to figure out scheme and trying to figure out what your players do best and everything what munkin told us
what happened at least as far as munkin was concerned is that his scheme offensively adapts to the players around him right so it's one of the selling points of munkin and Rootenberg seems like he's taking the exact opposite approach he's trying to force his scheme on these players and not really playing to what they do which makes me wonder and and I don't know what you can speak to this but like how how involved is munkin on the defensive side of the ball is this like a Ben Johnson in Chicago situation where he really doesn't do much with the defense at all I kind of feel like most of munkin's attention is uh on uh the offensive side of the ball um I can't speak to whether or not he's jumping in the meeting rooms and taking over for Mike Rootenberg but like you know Rootenberg said 150 times yesterday uh that you know his job is to play to his players strengths and in week one I think it's uh been pretty clear he didn't do that so I I guess open mind this week see what they do in Tampa Bay uh see if he shakes anything up uh in the way uh he calls things and then we have
to revisit it next week Darrell I put out a Twitter poll and it will since as by the way earlier today and I said do you expect the Browns to be competitive uh with Baker and the Bucks on Sunday 90% of 500 votes say no do you expect Darrell writer the Browns to be competitive on Sunday no I I don't expect it I don't expect much of uh this uh football team I certainly don't expect the Sean Watson to throw for 400 yards and five touchdowns I well in a game I'd like to see if he could even do that in a month now dude um touchdowns he throws to the other team to those counts uh yes I you know I think because we did it for James Winston right I think we need to do it for DeShon too I think he should get credit for those absolutely uh earlier the show Nick put it at 30 percent I I put it at the same zero point zero one percent I had for last week although I wanted I wanted to bump it up I just never got around to actually bumping it up appropriately would you
still like to bomb but I think you're about five percent well do five percent five percent the number I'm settling on uh odds that DeShon Watson gets benched at the half um I don't think that's gonna happen I'm gonna put it at yeah I'll go with the five percent um I think that one dollar bottom why don't you get like a six percent four percent I I think that it is a good thought but you know that that bit's been played out on the prices right for years uh whoa whoa whoa say what you want about the brown do you leave prices right out of this plate out oh man um the uh yeah I um I I think that the only way DeShon Watson gets replaced right now is if he suffers an injury I agree with that by the way it's not made that known I agree with that yeah I I just I I I think they're committed to this thing and and seeing it through for better for worse or awful or whatever adjective you want to use uh to describe his play um but yeah I I don't
see a half time benching in the offing on Sunday and I don't see a quarterback change in the offing for the home opener either all right Darrell we uh we appreciate you Mootro thank you very much and uh I'll say it I'm just gonna say it for every I hope you enjoy Sunday fellow I hope everyone enjoys Sunday and hopefully next week we can be talking about the browns coming home one in one and uh not uh continuing the conversation we've had for the last six days Darrell Reiner brought to you by Shimon Jouler's Cleveland's premiere jewelry store what is what is more discipline oh sorry what is more depressing to you mm-hmm the idea of the browns losing this game or the idea of a really non-competitive first half and to Sean Watson goes out there in the second half I I was surprised at how much the last one just overall just kind of flattened me while Darrell was talking I think I've numb to the second one because that's the expectation I have I I the expectation I have is they're just gonna let to Sean go out there and and if he stinks then they're gonna make him do everything uh up until the podium where he has to go ahead and account
for why he was so bad the lead in five minutes on ninety two three the fam Chris Jimenez coming up in about 40 minutes Nick Wilson Johnathan Peter Lin with you we got plenty to get to obviously browns bucket nears Tampa Bay sunda I'm just saying words now in a specific cadence uh I do then this is just because for some Josh Graham just was tweeting out that uh he's at the wake forest Miami game tonight okay and that just immediately made me think of Lane Kiffin going to Ole Miss tomorrow and I thought to myself oh that's gonna be a hostile environment and then I thought about to Sean Watson if he's a starting quarterback in Cleveland and I did I did the thing of that you do was a schlocky radio guy all right to Sean Watson week three in Cleveland or Lane Kiffin returning to Ole Miss what's going to be uglier mind you there's been additional security hired for Lane Kiffin going back to Ole Miss and in like two
different places too by the way and I still feel like Cleveland's gonna be uglier well it's gonna be uglier because Ole Miss shouldn't hate Lane Kiffin the way that they hate Lane Kiffin yes he left but he did so many wonderful things for Ole Miss and and the difference here is that to Sean Watson has done nothing wonderful for us he's only he's only further enraged us yeah and the one similarity is Lane Kiffin has taken his opportunities since he left really to either blatantly lie about things that were going on including him leaving in the first place but also like how things went down uh and also to inflame Ole Miss fans I mean to Sean Watson's uh two press conferences in the last three weeks have done nothing but I would love to hear Todd Munkin his thoughts after the Cleveland media thing earlier this week I would have loved to be in a real thoughts not these these whatever thoughts he's putting out not his I'm cowering and turtling because I'm always about to be oh and two here's what happens when he goes home to his wife and then they sit down in the dinner he probably puts his head down and goes I can't believe
I can't believe he did it again yeah he just he just will not shut up and then oh and probably goes I want to dance and stew it is just like the things he can actually say not you I'm side of the building where he turns around and tells his wife like I all I do is go to bat for this guy and he keeps making me look like an idiot well and and you know one of the things that kind of I might direct message to Todd Munkin through these airwaves was I do Sean is not always forthcoming with how he thinks and how he feels we saw for three years him tell Kevin Stofansky I love this offense I'm totally comfortable in this offense as he was checks notes not comfortable in the West Coast offense yeah and now now Todd might not know that because Todd was coaching in Baltimore but it was pain it it claimed as day that if you watched this Dishon didn't fit that offense Kevin was too stubborn to realize that too early and Dishon clearly was telling money he wanted to hear so when when Dishon said after the Buffalo post game debacle when he was like nah I got it off my chest and I'm clearly okay that was your fool me once moment and and what Wednesday
proved is all right Dishon has problems being the Browns quarterback Dishon does not want to be the face of these fans and I understand it I think he is playing the victim card I think he lacks self awareness and quite frankly that in rage is me just a hell of a lot more than anything else this guy's done in Cleveland the last five years I will have different with this be then if Dishon was let's say good at the podium or normal human being at the podium like how much of this outrage is stemmed from not only what happened after the second preseason game but then also happened earlier this week at least half if not more than half like I think I think I think I think he would honestly with the way week one went the defense was bad enough the the play around Dishon was okay Dishon got sacked a bunch of times even though I think real people realized that was Dishon getting himself sacked by dropping I think to East Euclid they were in Jackson football they'd be a long March long yeah but you know I get okay they can 18 steps when you're
already done a shotgun is too Tampa Bay to go ahead and and try and throw a football but like I think how bad things were around Dishon would have would have glossed over the fact that Dishon wasn't very good himself if he had just shut up after the Buffalo game and if he had just shut up on Wednesday just waste there's ways to do this yeah there's ways to be a quarterback one and you and you look anywhere across the league you can see how you're supposed to handle it I cannot suppose to handle it and and right there's obviously when things are going well it's much easier to pull that off like I heard Josh Allen last night before the game and and my goodness you want to talk about a guy that just understands and gets it he can he only does is say the right things and only does is put on the right face and and but like Dishon is just not helping himself but I do wonder I don't wonder how many fans would just be let's not say take it easy on Dishon because he's just killed just so much from a football standpoint but if he didn't shoot himself so much in the foot with these press conferences how much chiller would the fan base be when he starts week three that's why this game to me means more to munkin than it does to Watson because I don't know
what Watson contingently lose other than a starting job and he might welcome and welcome that at this point yeah welcome avoiding the scene of of week three in Cleveland with Todd munkin I honestly don't think Todd munkin realizes what he's doing with his insistence on putting Dishon out there uh in in this game if Dishon Watson looks like a lost puppy in the first half and you throw him out there for the second half and you get completely blown out two straight games you're putting yourself on a path to be one and done and I've I've I've shaved at that I have scoffed at that if you cannot be competitive the first two weeks of the season and the quarterback you continue to say you see something in despite the fact that media that watched the actual practices have said was not the best quarterback including myself Dishon Watson was not the best quarterback 98% of the time that I watched practice and I'm not I'm not like throwing myself out everybody thought that so you're forcing a quarterback that wasn't the better quarterback because
you see something in him or you think you can get something out of him he is absolutely loaded in this town and you're gonna you're gonna not even not even at least have the common courtesy to be good like Todd munkin might be getting himself fired not literally but but this year based off how he's handling this so if there's a moment if you're if you are unproductive if you are if you are unplayable in the first half of this season or the first half of this game and you continue to choose Dishon Watson and then on Monday you come out and you choose Dishon Watson again people will forget was success but you're making it really hard to forget how bad this is especially if at some point you turn to Shador and he looks like I don't know a salient NFL quarterback you say people forget but it would take a long time for someone like myself to forget the idea that he chose Dishon Watson and and in a spot where he didn't have to and in a spot where he could have made life easier on himself he was that fast in this and so okay you got to live with that consequence even if he gets Shador corrected and everything's on the right path we'll plot him there but I'll
always question his decision making if this was the route that he wanted to go that I'll in the back of my mind I will always wonder what is that really easy thinking well and remember if the reporting on this is accurate which that this is Todd munkin talking the rest of that organization into playing Dishon Watson you think you think the Browns organization is loving this now I'm going to say anybody over there could have stopped this anyone over there could have said Todd we love you we think they've stepped in way too much for me to think that they're just innocent by standards well no they're not innocent but I'm just talking about from the career side of things you like you're walking the Browns organization who by the way is trying to tell everybody about this great big old deal down in Brook Park that they're going to have that is going to fix all of our problems right and you're making everybody's job over there 10 times tougher by pissing everybody off by playing Dishon Watson so it is in like if Dishon Watson has a good game that's good for Dishon
right it's best for Todd munkin he needs this he needs to he's losing equity in a way I can't recall the lot Freddie kitchens maybe the last head coach that lost equity like this I mean has to be and and we're putting them in with with Freddie kitchens here obviously but there's other names in foot the football world like Jim Tom Sula those type of guys where once it's and we once it's gone it's gone and so Todd is smarter than those guys he is more equipped to be an NFL head coach than those guys it's on it's on you like a tattoo though and when you have these type of decision making and this type of process to it because they could you say you smarter and I believe you're right I think he carries himself much better I think he seems like a professional at the podium I think he there's a there's a a belief there that should exist that he at least knows what he's doing but on the field week one he passed none of those tests two one six four seven four double nine two is Sunday bigger for Todd munkin or Dishon Watson let's go with Joe in Cleveland welcome
back to the show Joe obviously it's big bigger for Todd munkin because he chose Dishon Watson so whatever he does we're not we don't really care anymore it's kind of funny how the solstice already think it dorsi as the fans wanted Josh Allen we just gone through to six foot Shiny Men's L we didn't want another six footer to go to Baker is as he said you know right on the money but like all of a sudden how how this has turned around now the sudden the fans didn't want to show on watch and we want you know want Sanders and but now we're playing Baker and it's like oh my god it's just so weird you pick the player because you change Ken from Baker he wasn't getting uh wasn't uh what you're happy with so you've got big strong guy into Sean Watson bigger stronger and guess what and look at how it's turned out is this you know what the true Cleveland Brown fans it have time and time will be pissing on dorsi's grave all right we know that that's a very
very amped up there's a couple bits there and I we overused revisionist history here it was you not it was not unanimous the Cleveland wanted Josh Allen there was a healthy dose of people who wanted Sam Darnold everyone thought it was going to be Sam Darnold I'll tell you that right now and and then Ken didn't help that because Ken he's admitted he was a patsy in this and uh but like everyone thought it was going to be Darnold and then I mean I never forget being at that uh being in the muni lot and the Browns at this big watch party and this big celebration and I was in charge of filming it and it said Baker mayfield and it was just kind of like a like a the shrug emoji like it was it was not met with great applause or great excitement or great anything it was just kind of like oh also they chose him Dishon isn't really any bigger than Baker mayfield he might be an inch or two taller but he's actually beggars got some chunk to him Dishon Watson one of the biggest concerns about him uh coming out of college and believe it or not there were no off the field concerns that were reported one of the biggest concerns was his slight frame and whether it'd be able to hold up to the consistent pounding of of the NFL I've stood next to Baker I'm six one and a
half he's a legitimate six one it's not like when we stand next to Dylan Gabriel and it's like well is he is he that is he that short is he that tall now he's that short honestly I stand next to you six one guys and the five ten guys y'all y'all kind of seen the same debate well good good good good good that's one percent of the height one percent of the way to mean good thing for you I'm six one and a half that's sure I knew that I knew that with a half inch I'm like what got me over on Baker for being honest me too you know if you had been six foot one somebody else would be sitting in that chair right now I tend to believe that six foot one and a half was like he's got the half inch we're good yeah it's when you're six one you're just tiny I think come on now I need just kidding out there for anyone that's legitimately enraged by this yeah I think like in the eighty five percentile well yeah you guys said honestly short kings you matter to sprint football the real thing yeah I know not for six one I mean people shorter than six one okay all right Adam and Lakewood welcome to the show buddy hey thank you uh man please open with a question guys you may please okay uh do you think a sixty year old monk who's been
around the league is is positively truthfully this tone deaf to what's going on and Cleveland you know like an actual monk who do you mean Todd Monkin not a monkey oh okay okay it sounds like a sixty year old monk walking around they'd be really funny monks really kind of are in there no world we're gonna the wimpy thing we're gonna monastery I know guys you think he is this tone deaf uh yeah he must be because he's look at what's happened see I think his plan is these are two more preseason games to let the offensive line get acquainted and let our new receivers get their feet wet this team is not ready for Shadore uh and in the third week it's two games Adam I think we're galaxy branding just a little bit here of trying to like bend up bend over backwards to explain it uh I I the idea of we're gonna wait two if it's only two games you would just would start Shadore bud I don't disagree with that but I think that's a choice one more thing please and I will listen this is uh Mr. versus coming
out game that man has to abuse mayfield I need a strip sack for a score and a lot of abuse the best scenario is we lose this game I'm calling it abuse and and then we roll out think the other best scenario is we win it but with our defense and then Shadore's our guy uh next Sunday thanks guys all right Adam you got a great laugh yeah we appreciate you great great laugh yeah get a lot going on there two and six four seven four two below nine two geo and mic you guys stick there is sunday bigger for munkin or for watchin and we will talk about patience with the defense in five minutes on ninety two three the fan football talk coverage on the fan presented by xfinity score the most reliable wi-fi one prize five years guaranteed xfinity imagine that christian menace coming up in about 15 minutes time nick and jp back on the show the lock and for a stuff continues to be
it's tough because on one hand it's Jason lockin for yeah who by the way I mean we used to have our arts sunday pregame shows just infiltrated by lockin for every single week and when he was doing it at the time it was cbs sports and it was I mean that news was as good as gold like he was very plugged in for a while he he was for a while and now I don't know um now now I don't know and like I've actually met Jason uh back in the day so like he's a very very nice guy but like then and so there's three things that he came out and said about the browns quarterback situation and the first one and I understand why people are prone to believe this because you could say anything negative about to shan wants in and I think people would believe it but what is effectively to shan is playing bad on purpose and to shan is calling the browns bluff because not only does he not want to be here now he's never really wanted to be here yeah that was one of the takes uh and I the never wanted to be here part was interesting so we're we going all the way back to
the very very beginning because he did have you know 13 suitors that were dwindled down to four and then he chose the brown so for someone that never wanted to be here he really you know made it his own decision well remember the browns were out of the race and then they were back in and then they were back in the race I think that might have something to do with the little guaranteed country that was the tactic but you can't tell me you never wanted to be here when you signed on the dotted line well no no I think he wanted to fully guaranteed money I think it was the Cleveland part of it that he was a little lifion yeah that wasn't part of the deal well that but I think he thought maybe it would be like that wasn't maybe if I said it out that was part of the killing or two and and by the way there there would be some credence of the idea that you didn't want to come to Cleveland because for the longest time waiting up to that John McLean would come on the station and say yeah he played uh he played a couple games in Cleveland and each time was so windy and the weather was so awful it's never going to happen say he there was a time where he was vocal about a displeasure of Cleveland well it was about three weeks ago if I remember correctly but I'm sure all right so that's one again
I just so do you believe that one that he doesn't want to be here right now right now absolutely yeah I do too yeah I do too I don't think he wants to be here I don't think he wants to play for the Browns I don't think he wants anything to do with this no I don't think he's directly saying I'm going to go be bad on the field because of that no I think he still wants to play in the NFL yes I also think he believes in this redemption story that he's awarded in his mind and I don't think it's ever going to happen but I think he believes that there is one for him now the second one was Haslam wants Arch and this is really what it's all about he wants Archmaning playing in that new stadium I have no doubt that given Jimmy Haslam and the Haslam families ties to the Manning family I have no doubt that knowing that Archmaning if you draft him and he's really good that is a superstar in every calculable way even if he's merely a really good quarterback and not a truly great quarterback um I don't think that's why they're playing to Sean Watson I think they're playing to Sean Watson because Todd Munkin wants it to be I think I think the rest of the Browns organization
understands if we want to get Archmaning there's a million whoop sleep better train smarter recover faster and feel healthier understand and optimize your sleep get coaching and insights for every age stay to cycle track over 140 habit get a 360 view of your training and workouts never miss a second of that with a wireless and waterproof charger expect all new features all the time hey this is Richard Ditch the host of the sports media podcast if you're interested in what's happening with all the places where you consume sports the sports media podcast has you covered I've been turning down interviews all week odour copy reached out Oprah George Stephanopolis so I said no I was booked on the dutch podcast before the Taylor Swift phenomenon I must live up to my responsibility listen wherever you get your podcasts
in ways to million roads to go down that don't involve infuriating all of our fan base this way I believe it wants archmaning but I believe in the sense that I don't know maybe like 20 different owners across the NFL probably want search manning right now I don't think this is independent I understand the Tennessee relationship and everything that goes with that so maybe there's like a a tick up in arches favor but if you're an NFL owner right now you want archmaning unless you have my homes or Allen or one more or one of those type of quarterbacks as your quarterback all right so that so that second one again there's some plausibility in this is kind of the way Jason can operate sometimes and that I do think that if Jimmy Hasel was being candid yeah he would love archmaning to be the browns quarterback next year you don't have a quarterback you of course you'd love the guy that's projected to be number one to be your quarterback now the last one is and I'm just going to read this one verbatim because I was going to do it and I don't want to butcher it numerous league sources indicated to me that the locker room is already over this stunt players on that roster are over the constant drama and there's no leadership coming from Watson at all this point
that's the one that I think between what Ronnie Hickman said earlier this week that's over my pay grade I Dishon's latest flame out like I wouldn't surprise me if Todd Monkin is over it after what happened on Wednesday yeah and I think I think you're getting to a point where Dishon could be so harmful beyond just easy throwing the ball to the right team I think you could really get to a point where whatever the grudge he has against Cleveland is starting to really impact that locker room and that's a real damn shame because that's a good locker room and there's a lot of good football players there if it happened it's happened quickly which is understandable that's how things work in the NFL what I would say is when we were at camp and it doesn't mean that because they said on the air there was players that told us off the air I I genuinely do believe there were players in that locker room that were backing to Sean Watson and we're happy with either or like it doesn't matter. It's very shooting. Didn't matter to them. Yeah that's another you think we could get a second rounder for Jerry I don't think that's on the table. I heard a very reputable member of the Cleveland media don't think a second round on the table for a second rounder. I don't
think you pounded the table. Yeah I know you pounded the table pretty hard there I almost felt bad for the table. Um okay I shouldn't have laughed I shouldn't let you I shouldn't have let you sit in that one. Yeah you should have I should have but you couldn't I just could teammate you know that's what it is. That's what it is. That's what I'm just genuinely hilarious. I wasn't never crossed my mind. Um but no no you know it's changed since we were out in Berea. Is that Buffalo pre uh post game and it was what he said earlier this week like I do I think I think it I think it would be foolish to think that DeShawn taking a blowtorch to Brown's fans didn't have uh echoes in that locker room that that guys didn't look around and maybe look at DeShawn differently after he said that. I mean everybody turned on him. I don't know I think the play probably impacted a more than the actual actual statement anything said the post game. I don't think I either helped him. We took neither helped him but we took the post game pretty hard because he was directly calling out the fans and directly calling out everyone everyone that
is paying their money to go after this thing. I don't know I don't think players care more about what happens on the field than they care about the post game comments. All right let's go with you and Cleveland. You got about 45 seconds buddy. What you got for us? I just I'd love to hear you guys off air comments about what's really going on and how you really feel because I think it's a Cleveland Brown fan. I think this monkey guy has lost all credibility whatsoever when he said that this was a football decision to start. We don't want to do it. You know one one second you you want our off air is that what you're saying? Yeah I mean like we say everything that we'd say off the air on the air. That's the fun thing about that. The fun thing about Nika herself is that we don't have a filter that way and we just say exactly what's on our mind and it always gets us in trouble. I love it and I love your guy takes it just makes me laugh like I mean Nika's hilarious John's been your hilarious but it's like as a fan like and first of all a month in lost credibility when he started to Sean saying it's a football decision and then we're like what football team were you watching like on what planet were you are and then the other thing
was this latest press conference where he's like I'm 60 years old and this is the greatest day ever or it's like you literally just told everybody in Cleveland that I'm going to do whatever Jimmy has. When Andrew Barry told me to do like it's this is stupid like the Sean Watson needs to go away and he needs to go away rapidly don't tell us it's football it's business. Mark's Manning I mean I watched the Buckeye game it was okay he's not Andrew Locke he's not killing me he's not the best quarterback out there I mean putting all your eggs in that basket proves exactly why the Browns organization has been in the position it's been since this guy has owned it like the tiger king every episode you think it can't get any worse until the next episode and then they step to the podium and it gets worse but I'm a huge fan of you guys thanks for your time. Appreciate you Joe and we're all that really nice person who lost her arm because the tiger and was like no you can't put the tiger down it was just doing what tigers do and I was like well that just means you're a dumbass all right the one thing I don't buy is that he just does whatever whatever Jimmy and Andrew
want him to do because I I'm officially under the assumption that he wants to play to Sean and that's why to Sean start. I mean it's clearly collaborative he's mentioned in how many million times that he sits down with Andrew Barry and they go over the roster so I get it might not be a monk and exclusive or it might be perceived as a monk and exclusive but like him and Andrew Barry sitting down talking about every decision yeah but I did mention that I did like Geo's Todd Monk in impression I was pretty good I'm 16 years old but now now that's just back to the future that is to Sean Sean come on we gotta go what happened you notice how that was nothing different it was the same but I was also trying to do Michael J Fox and I'm too manly for it quite frankly or just not good at impressions I don't know which one I swear Mark Ockich he does his impressions it's like the real thing you could do a decent I Christy Mines guardians TV analyst in five minutes on 92 three the fan get star rider and coach Riz they break down the biggest store in lines of the browns twice each week on the 92 three the fan youtube page

Y's heart right we make it right call Kyle right hotline former Indians player now guardians tv analyst Chris Jimenez joining us right now Chris welcome to the show thank you boys thank you for having me on on this f off Friday well listen when I think of not I listen it's going to be an exciting weekend here final three home games of the season I am never this way I think you need to sweep the A's here because you got the red socks behind it and I think you need to make hey when you can where you on this series and what the guardians can and should do yeah I kind of agree with you I don't know if they necessarily need to sweep them but they certainly need to win the series now Oakland you look at the overall record it's not great but they have been playing a lot better recently and sometimes guys these are the toughest teams to play in the month of September because you got a young group on that other side that's kind of trying to prove they belong at the big league level and you know there's obviously a lot of stuff in flux on I just almost called them Oakland side of things too but Sacramento side of things and you know these can be tough games
to play and I would imagine that they're going to bring you know their best fight and they pretty much you know kept it really close against the Tampa Bay race this last series until Tampa kind of blew it out yesterday but this is going to be a tough you know it's going to be a tough series the the a's gosh I almost called them Oakland again holy cow now you got me saying that all the time but the a's are not going to roll over by any means in nor should they but I agree with you guys I think we need to take care of business this series just knowing that Boston is next and you know you hope that they have kind of clinched a playoff spot by then so that they may kind of try to reshuffle their you know starting rotation to kind of be advantageous for themselves and maybe that gives us a little bit of a break but Kansas City's not going to roll over either so it's it's not easy by any stretch of the way but I think this group's got a lot of momentum going right now and I'm excited to you know watch this game tonight in particular. Yeah I mean it should be a fun one I and it's going to highlight the bullpen which I think when a lot of a lot of guardians fans they think about this bullpen they're not thinking about the greatest things either
like Kate Smith obviously but it seems like there's been some struggles but then you will get some of the numbers over the month of September there's second and baseball and ERA there third and fifth like this bullpen is quietly really good. It is quietly really good and I think that's exactly the way they want it to be they don't want a lot of notoriety down there they just want to be able to come in very unassumingly and get the job done. The only thing they care about is thrown up zeros and they've done a really good job this last month plus and it's taken a little bit of pressure off the starting rotation and I think too it's kind of coincided with the offense you know swinging the bat a little bit better as well so it makes those guys it puts those guys in the positions that you know they should probably be in and I think it shows how deep this bullpen has a chance to be and again they've been really good in the guardians have had to lean on it and when it's a strength you might as well especially this time of the year. All right Chris I have a name I'm not going to give it away because I don't want to I don't want to editorialize your potential
who is the most important guardians player including pitchers for the final nine games of the season. Well I think it's going to continue to be Travis Bazzana he has been on fire he's really kind of turned the corner essentially on the offensive side of things he's been able to make that adjustment back and now Stephen vote feels very confident in hitting him in the heart of the line-up he's hit third last two days in particular so I feel like he is an extremely important part of this lineup and with Jose hopefully looking like he's maybe coming out of it a little bit yeah that with Joe Adele with Chase the lottery is back in the lineup today I think that's a pretty formidable lineup when you got guys that are healthy and feeling good. Now what do you see in with J. Ram from the right side it seems to be going much better than the left side. Is there something there what do you see structurally if anything? You know I that's actually a really good question because I don't structurally I don't think you see anything different or at least I haven't you know maybe he's going outside of his strike zone a little bit more because he's trying to make it happen
as opposed to just what he does so well which is allow things the game to come to him and I think he also feels the pressure to of these guys know they need him to be Jose in order for them to to make not only a run here for the division but if they get and when they sneak into the playoffs any further than that you know just that wild card round so I think you see him just feel the pressure of trying to live up to him but at the same time the swing decisions are the same you know he's not like going outside the strike zone to chase like any more than he normally does it's just you know hasn't gotten lucky he sits in balls hard but I think hopefully that breakout game he had on Wednesday with the two doubles and none bigger than the second one you know I hope that that's something they can kind of kicks him hot right now into the stretch run here these last 10 days and into the playoffs that could be the all of difference in the world Chris it's not just the battle for the A.L. Central over the final nine games if if the guardians end up getting the number two seed here
that's that's within the possible as a matter of fact if the playoffs ended today the A.L. Central winner would be the number two seed would like how much different would your expectations be if they were to land the two seed as opposed to if they ended up as the final wild card spot I think there is a significant difference there because just getting that chance to set your rotation up to give this bullpen that's been utilized a lot of much needed break you know for three or four days to get your offensive guys maybe some of those guys that are banged up like on Helm Martinez give them an extra few days to get themselves right chase the lottery in the same right I think it means if if they are able to you know clinch the division and become that number two seed you're looking at pretty squarely you know a really good chance to go into the A.L. CS again you know because the way that works out right now only one of the Yankees the Red Sox and the Rays are going to be there so you know you don't have to necessarily go through any of those other teams in theory it's the easier route right so I think the LCS is what should
be reached for it now I'm not saying that if they go into the wild card that shouldn't still be the same goal it's just going to get a little bit tougher because you have to play that extra round but if they do find a way to sneak in to the division and speak to win the division in that number two seed I think the expectations have to go up it's just natural would you rather be the guardians of the white socks right now what I mean by that is you know same record but Chicago owns the tiebreaker they have the easier schedule but Cleveland has been playing much better baseball yeah that's a fantastic question and I think the answer is I don't think it's as easy as it looks on paper right because you think about it like sure you would rather be probably the white socks because you have the tiebreaker you have a far easier schedule remaining again you still have to play and you never know what can happen but what you just mentioned last is why I'm going to take the guardians because they're playing significantly better right now they have the confidence and that to me this time of the year gets you over the hump more times than not
all right Chris who you think is going to win the Browns bucks game on Sunday I don't know if you want my answer you sure you won't answer for that but last time we asked you a question along this lines you told us how much you hate well-brown James and so you know we are I think we do we'd like to click oh all right I'm gonna I'll tell you what I'll tell you what I think we all know who's gonna win the game and it's not the Browns but that's not a not that's not a not okay all I'm saying is I would love to see the Browns make some progress on offense because if they don't home opener the following weeks if they can find a way to make progress the excitement still going to be there everybody's going to be you know across the street here Randerson ready to go but if they don't make any progress oh boy I still bad for you guys so my ideal outcome is maybe the Browns defense shows up in the first half
and the offense struggles Dishon gets benched at halftime Shadork comes in come back win and we that leads us into week three against Caroline if I could draw it up that's how would draw up week three or we're sorry week two okay so I actually think that's number one I think that's a very realistic possibility but at the same time to me naming Dishon was in the starter and again I prefaced this with I'm a baseball guy but we're talking football now so let's do it but if you mean Dishon the starter it's for the thought process of that he they're on the road the first two weeks so he fails it's an easy transition to Shadork there's a ton of excitement there it's just kind of a perfect fit and I think ultimately that's probably what happens all right Chris we appreciate you buddy I enjoy the series this weekend and thanks again for your time on a Friday buddy really appreciate it thank you of course you guys of course hey go Browns how about that you sold it I believe yeah everyone believed you
Chris Jimenez there on the Ysr right we make it right call Kyle right hotline really good stuff on the guardos and I didn't even I forgot to ask my brain fart I forgot to ask him whether he thinks this is Stephen votes best performances of manager yet I'm gonna guess he's gonna say yes he would say yes I'm gonna just go on the limb here I'm gonna guess anyone has said yes and never get well react to what Chris had to say and I was actually a pretty funny report about one NFL quarterback that isn't gonna make you sad about the Cleveland Browns in five minutes on 92 three the fan year up for game day with the fan tailgate show starting at 7 a.m. on 92 three the fan the radio home with the Cleveland Browns joined Jake Molnick Nick Modone at 7 a.m. Go Trees at 10 o'clock it's gonna be with me I mean we're starting at 10 for the holiday week two Baker Mayfield day we're at Dick Sporting Goods that's what's happening there as they break down everything whoop sleep better train smarter recover faster and feel healthy understand and optimize your sleep get coaching and insights for every age stay in cycle

he's maybe coming out of it a little bit yeah at that with Joe Adele with Chase the Lotter back in the lineup today I think that's a pretty formidable lineup when you got guys that are healthy and feeling good Chris Jimenez former Indian slugger I played catcher and in Cardiants TV analysts I realized it Chris probably wouldn't want me calling him a slugger yeah I'm gonna want to work there wasn't it be like what did I call PD help an earlier in the show we have something it was an offshoot of the we said SWAT I think was it was it was the salt and the SWAT is what you were going for the SWAT man the SWAT man yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah missed it by this much it was Babe Ruth adjacent was the point when I thought it and I thought it was salt and the SWAT but it was close enough so all around good baseball place fundamentally sound fundamentally sound Chris Jimenez in the previous segment I like the Bessana answer a lot the only reason we had the conversation about who's the most important Guardian's player and that including
that includes pitchers in the reason I didn't go with the hitter is I don't know I know you have a night you can draw up it could be Nathaniel Lowe Joe Adele Bessana CDL I hope I we're still allowed to call him that Steven Quon like literally there's eight guys on any given night it could be because the offense seems to have found itself in recent months yeah but I don't think it's an accident that the offense has found itself and it's because Travis Bessana is hitting as well as he is you know like like the way he's played over the past I don't know three weeks of baseball there's a direct line with the Guardian's offense picking up some steam I also think there's some correlation there with this is why my pick is J. Ram when J. Ram is able to be productive and then be a little bit just I just need a little semblance of the old J. Ram and then everything is right I think it's going to be really interesting to see five years from now and the the the qualifier that has to be said is if if both stay healthy yeah but who ends up being the more impactful player Bessana or De Lauder because I look at I look at De Lauder and he is he has that kind of athletic frame that
you would see from a gigantic outfielder with power with speed with kind of a almost every tool imaginable there the powers kind of been okay like more more double power this year than like home run power yeah but you know but you know because I was in the number one big admit by the way thank you you're welcome didn't know that you're going to give that up as easy as you did for this year yeah I do think De Lauder's a future 30 home run hitter and I don't think it's a con I don't even think it's a conversation I know but you did laugh at all the projections before the season that put him at 15 home runs and he's sitting at 14 home runs it was it was less about the home runs you know it was bandwrapped by those guys and fans graphs had him hitting 220 you were in that's what I was in so we averages 240 now you have a right to be in so 85 here you're right you've right to be in salt because he's hitting much better than that but that was not the part that you were insulted by you were insulted by the 15 home run projection I was in so I was insulted by all of it and it was more than just fan graphs it was literally every projection website I could find it was like six of them there's like six of them that I laid out for you know my it's like 15 home runs 15 home runs 15 home runs 15 home runs you know the mentioned fan graphs that's the one
because I remember making fun of doing that no steamer is the one you made fun of because of the name steamer well yeah that's nature name yourself something other than steamer I'm in Cleveland after all and then the Dakota projections were also there the same way you see how this works yeah got these locked in loud it was like six different projected websites that said 15 home runs if you brought six different projected websites I would I would haze you one is enough well it was in the context of our conversation oh yeah but you didn't go to you didn't go and yes I did the con day in the the the squarely you said whatever these guys is who you're arguing with you're not really arguing with me you're not really the about the 230 or the two and then I think I think you just called them all nerds and said they go about your day nerds and I was right it go go about your days I was right except for pound me average right now in baseball is 240 like a like the idea that batting average is anything close to what it was five years ago 10 years ago 15 years ago it just isn't right now that makes me being right about chased a lot or even more impressive that's all I'm hearing right you just admitted you were wrong what you got power every other thing
I was right about the young man okay yeah and you're welcome but no it'll be a fascinating conversation as we kind of track each guys careers because again like I think Bazzana probably tops out at 20 to 25 home runs I don't know he's a second basement you know like there's a lot of things where it's like all the kind of other ways we judge value you are going to depend on where does he land on the field and okay power versus kind of hitting for average and like I think there's a world in which a prep honestly I think the most likely thing is the lotter's a better power hitter and he's a better hitter for average and then it's going to be really interesting to see how people judge Bazzana off that because I also think Bazzana when he's on is just stinkin electric what's interesting is that the water and again defensive metrics are tough especially in a sample size as tiny as we have for both players the water is grading out progressively worse as the defensive player of the two and I think that really speaks to the idea that Bazzana early on felt like he couldn't feel it at all
yeah and the past month and a half or so he's gotten much better markedly better as a defensive second basement two one six four seven four double oh nine two I'll say this though if we're talking about just this year as a whole the water did beat him year one and I'm surprised by that now Bazzana made it closer than I think and I could make an argument if I wanted to I won't I'll lay my sword down in this one the water had a better year thank you to your short but you would make an argument off the idea that Bazzana the numbers are very very close all things considered but Bazzana has done it in the most important stretch here and Bazzana's really done in the past three weeks and to do this your rookie season at this time is critical the time of the years it is that speaks volumes yeah and to kind of do that with mexico and with Tanner bibi under like you can see that there could be a nice four to five year run here and who knows longer depending on how things go after a potential lockout this this could end up we could look back and think regular season wise okay that was the low watermark that time you were the two seed and won the
a health central because all those you know future stars were year one guys now do you want to feel good about you want to just have a maybe a different perspective in the quarterback position and laugh at somebody else's quarterback position for a second other than ours feels like glass houses but sure oh at this point I don't care I live in a glass house I can't be a chooser I'm mixing my metaphors or expressions whatever so in a big write up about what an important year this is for Kevin O'Connell the ESPN article walks us through the JJ McCarthy era yeah and basically one of the and I hate this I hate when one of the thing that comes out is well Kevin O'Connell really wanted the the team to trade up to take Drake May but New England said no and it's like that's that's a what's just flying way too close to the huge acts and son yeah yeah and I'm not saying Todd Haley's wrong by the way but Todd Haley the other day being like oh we could add sake one at one and and Josh Allen at four it's like I I don't remember that far back enough to know whether that's
what you really wanted or whether you're just saying it now but I don't want you to be a baker and Denzel Ward it wasn't awful yeah oh and by the way Nick Chubb was the 33rd no 35th pick in that draft you did okay but they kind of get into it and probably my favorite line is multiple sources said the Vikings were surprised by the degree of McCarthy's immaturity. O'Connell is hinted at it publicly noting last season that McCarthy's feedback during film sessions indicated he was veering wildly off script and O'Connell did not hide his displeasure with McCarthy's decision to celebrate a touchdown against the Cowboys five yards before crossing the line of skimmy the skrimmy something he was and the skimmy and the skimmy jive always the skimmy that it was were not to do and practice and did you see McCarthy's response to this by the way and then yes how to know this is a you line yeah I think this might be why you're enjoying it so much that's why I wanted to do it because once you tell me not to do something I'm gonna want to do it I'm gonna you tell me not to do it I'm gonna want to do it that's awful I can't believe O'Connell's getting
so pissed about celebrating five yards before the end zone yeah I know even the article goes well those wouldn't have been deal breakers if he actually played well it's like oh so you're just kind of kind of like some of the stuff I hear about Shador where it's like oh you're nitpicking for some other reason that I can't tell yeah basically if they don't think you're going to football they're gonna find ways to call you this is the Baker classic Baker playbook yeah here call you mature that's it you're gonna find ways to call you a mature when in the big picture of everything you're probably a decent human and you're probably not that immature you're just you know 24 years old and one of the things we heard about what's so funny about this is one of the biggest things we heard coming out of Michigan and from Harball himself was what what made JJ McCarthy the right quarterback to win the national championship with that team was his leadership skills yeah now leadership and maturity tend to go hand in hand so either Jim Harball lied which by the way would not be college coaches sometimes do lie on their their players behalfs or the Vikings
have just kind of turned a young guy I think it was 21 when they drafted him into a mental shell of himself almost very similar to what the Browns with the experience with the Browns I think is done to Dishon yeah it's funny I just wanted to check and see you at any point had Jim Harball been like hey JJ McCarthy how about how mature is he all I have is quote after quote after quote from going his maturity is far behind his ears yeah uh you know and all these different examples of times where whether that is JJ McCarthy or whether that is the the Michigan quarterback coach Matt Weiss just speaking glowing terms about JJ McCarthy and some of the guy that got in trouble with the laptop thing oh was that him I think so that as soon as you said the name Matt Weiss I was like oh that's maybe we shouldn't listen to that guy in maturity maybe that maybe that was a warning sign relative to that one is a pretty mature guy no no espionage in security breaches that's you know JJ McCarthy let's think about this a different way Jim Harball is a little bit of a new more than little bit of a new maybe maybe maybe maybe maybe we got the wrong messengers on this you
you and I are in lockstep on JJ McCarthy coming out in which neither of us thought he had any like special traits and he does have to come over get over the fact that he doesn't read or process or make decisions quick enough but the fact that they have bailed on him after basically 12 starts I know there's injury stuff there as well if we started if we started putting stock into all right you let a guy come to your team be a backup for three years with an older quarter back and maybe three years you look up and you have a starting quarterback I would bet that on JJ McCarthy because 12 games is just such a small sample size immature or not the funniest part of this is that it just really feels like Kevin O'Connell doesn't like him and doesn't think he can do anything with him a quarterback but but he can do stuff with Sam Darnold a quarterback and Carson Wednesday quarterback yeah and was willing to do stuff with Kyler Murray at quarterback like I don't understand it I don't understand how you can be this big quarterback guru that can basically work with anybody but JJ McCarthy is just a bridge too far in case you missed it in five minutes on 92
