Welcome back to Rural Queensland and I Glen Kelly, our guest this morning, the member for Moroni, he joins us on Rural Queensland and I Glen, can I say this to you? We know the challenges that we're going in the political landscape at the moment, but you've fought like a bag of feral cats to try and get this thrown out and not happen in your electorate, right? And that's the absolute way to do it. But the government just get tarnished now. And with one nation coming through and everybody, you know, every single week that one nation, you get put it a disadvantage when you've done nothing wrong. You live there, you breathe there, you fight for your electorate, yet some of the decisions and you are at odds like I am with this renewable plan by the government. And you're allowed to disagree with not everything, everything that your government obviously does, you don't have to agree with, but you tow the company line. But there's got to be some rules. And you're being judged because of decisions not made by you that make a mockery of this process.
Well, the federal government is like CQP, I'll be straight up and down here. I honestly believe, like I do know that they're not going to endorse their landholders and it's all about land banking, it's all about land banking. And these developers that love to see this government go, our government, they're government and then it all goes back to how they had it before. It's called the green dream, doing back to doing whatever they want. And while they have a lunar tick down in Canberra called Chris Bowen allowing this process to go through and the farmers and regional queens like it happens, no say at all. This is where the buck stops. And so I guess to these communities right across Australia too, I might add, not just in CQ but right across Australia, the pitchforks are out when it comes to renewables because they've seen through it. They've seen through it. And they don't talk about this one thing that never ever gets mentioned when it comes to renewables and what it does to local communities is the mental abuse.
That's exactly right. You're right. We talk about what it's doing to communities. And we're dealing with this around a campsite out of Kinga Roy. We're dealing this with Cumbia. We're one by wind farm Tara. Now this communities are on their knees, rural communities that are already already disadvantaged. We choose rural and yet we don't have any services yet. We still choose it. But now they're losing their rights for what they chose because they've got turbines getting put up within their ears shot and they've got them surrounding homes. It is almost laughable. It's cruel. That is the word. It is cruel. What's the next process, Glenn? What do you need to do? And what can we do? Well, look, I'm very privileged to be a part of a great government. It's working hard to which we did change that legislation from co-dissessor will be impact accessible. And I mean
that on its own means a hell of a lot to these communities that were never recognized in the first place because the previous government allowed us to just get fooled those over the out of the road. And I think going forward with this obviously, the whole team has stayed for a long time and that's a blessing to Queensland because there's a lot of people out there who don't realize and I will say if they don't realize how renewables work but they do know how coal works and they do know how reliable energy is so important. So long story short, our government is working hard on this and they know they know the those communities in regional clean clean they can't do because at the end of the day overseas developers which there was 50 developers in this state and we turned up. A lot of them are going a bit nervous. Some of them haven't. There's a lot of developers out there that have been given the green light through the federal government back in 2023 and they haven't done a thing. You do? Yeah. Because they haven't got tax pay as money anymore. I haven't got the
funding so unless they get backed by the government they aren't going to operate which they shouldn't have never been allowed to to start off with. It's all about return on investment and I mean at the end of the day which banks are going to let some of these developers borrow over a billion dollars with a return of probably a hundred million a year to put some money back in the kitty. So and one thing I will say though with the CQP the locals at home now received a thing in the Marley last Wednesday to Friday to Monday about this local energy discount scheme so that goes to the landholders at a 1.5 kilometres from a turbine and the rebates a thousand bucks a year. Well that's a joke. That's once again that's a spit in the face to the people that have to live beside this climate thing and don't have no say. Can you talk about that? Can you can you like I mean does your election understand it then does your government understand it like how this has been overwritten rough short over you guys like is DC is DC across this just like what it's grace?
He knows we all know because the community that's what the legislation had to be changed to give us some breathing space but the point of what I'm trying to get across is there's a lot of stuff was done and we weren't in we weren't around and they were sitting back laughing their guts out these developers and and at the end of the day they were getting what they wanted some of them were gone underground like I said before they're still going off and they want to land bank because they they want to carry on to where they were previously and so I look at I look at New South Wales Victoria is gone the farmers of Victoria all others like and I'll tell you what the farmers in regional Queensland we were so close to being a physician like Victoria and thank God the Christopher government got in and we stood up to fight for regional Queensland because I tell you what without the small communities and and the ag sector and all the resources sector this this started the you know hell of a mess if we still were under the government of Stephen Maul's
well you that that is absolutely 100% we're talking we've gone Kelly now I don't want to get too far down the track for you but I just want to ask you this now you inherited your government inherited the mess yet but yeah and I'm talking everything we've just seen it a you triple a rating taken down that and everybody can say oh well look what the state government said no no no this is from the sins of the past can with getting coal back on track and I and you talk to Sean Dylan you talk yourself you talk to local members they all want it they want to get it back on track can you get their right credit rating back for this state within the government I know it's going to take some time but you know the Labor government going on about this like it's this is all they're doing all of their doing like yeah back I've never seen anything so but every problem at the moment every strike that you guys are at the deal with and pay dispute with every member of organization you guys aren't saying no you're saying this should have been fixed and sorted year on year on year on year and
it never was and you guys are left to carry the cannon the same thing goes with this credit rating yeah no they seen it in part of last night look at there was the debate there it was full on at the end of the day Labor will never own their responsibilities Labor will never because they don't have to manage money mate and and this is this is the problem this is the problem we have and with this credit rating look it's it's I guess it's it's it's one of those things that it's it's happened but when you look in look into the engine room of this government we know what we're doing we know where we've got to go we know that reason Queensland count we know we know yes the Olympics are on its way but there's a lot of investment coming back to regional Queensland because it's they keep by them and you know the Labor Party spin it they can spin it like a beauty but at the end of the day when it comes back to this credit rating we will come back and I guess when you look at it all we were the government for 10 years and what they told about 10 years down here like hell it was
30 years 30 years this state got absolutely felt it's drained regional Queensland the French Highway we were never mentioned mate we were never mentioned it was all about where I met the moment then in the heartland of bloody Brisbane City and I mean we're not still 10 years ahead and we're still 30 at a 35 so at the end of the day what it said just said but my boss you know he's got this good state back on track and they crossed for that because I look up to him I think he's doing a great job and he's like letting others and one thing about it is he doesn't just do the talk and he doesn't walk and that's what that's what quickly need if we're ever going to come back so I just need your electorate we just need your electorate bloody calm down and and get some rights appreciate your time Glenn Kelly appreciate your time member from marani really appreciate your time this morning.
