Good morning, Zeta. Welcome back. Welcome back. It hasn't even been five days. Welcome back, my friend. I know, I know, I'm so happy to be back. And also you sound so good in the host's share. Look at you. Make me feel good. When you were hosting, I was taking notes. That's what I was doing.

2:01I was taking notes. Okay. Okay. Look at you. I'll be up already. Listeners, listeners of the show obviously know who you are. But everybody who will be listening to this, I'm going to do a little intro, a little intro. Of course, as you know, host of no off season, the WNBA shore for us here at the Athletic. Does, no, everything all in between, I always say you were like the busiest person that I've ever met in sports. That's fine. Yeah. Zena Cater. That's a good point that I had to take a step back so I could be able to focus on things. Yeah. To the point where you had to leave me. Thank you so much. I appreciate you all welcoming me. Welcome me back. Of course. And also allowing me to do it in a way of like it works a matter of job of covering the Warriors. Yeah, exactly. Okay. Let's talk about the Golden State Warriors because they are, I would say they are an interesting team. They always will be one Steph Curry is on that roster. And while you look at this team and they haven't necessarily made a ton of moves, they haven't

3:05really done much this off season. I think a lot of people come in with the idea of stagnation. What I have actually thought about when it comes to this Golden State Warriors team is sort of this mantra of it is what it is. You know, they've kind of accepted it is what it is. That's the point. That being said, Warriors fans are still abundant. There are millions and millions of Golden State Warriors fans and they are still excited about this team. So what is the most exciting storyline or thing that Warriors fans should be looking forward to this season? Oh, that's a good question. I would say this is probably the first year that this whole concept of the two timeline era could potentially come to fruition. Okay. And that is because of course when you look at some of the first round picks that the Warriors have had over the years, James Weisman second overall pick back in 2022, I believe

4:08it was earlier than that. But yeah, James Weisman and then seventh overall pick with Jonathan Caminga. Jonathan Caminga, yeah. James Weisman not in the league. Jonathan Caminga now signed with Minnesota with a deal that's lesser than his rookie contract. But it's a win because of his agent. As you know, I'm happy he's still in the league. I am happy. Absolutely. I do wish he could have signed that extension with the Warriors from a financial. I bet Jonathan Caminga feels that way. I bet Jonathan Caminga feels that way. I bet the Warriors sometimes feel that way as well. But either way, the point is when you look at what they've done with their first round picks, it's been kind of like this two timeline thing hasn't manifested in the way that you would imagine it, right? But now you're looking at Yaxl Landiborck comes in 11th pick for the Warriors this year over the course of summer league. You guys saw him, solid, solid player. Of course, can obviously put the ball in the basket, but the biggest thing was he was a good defender, good size, someone that can switch.

5:11And when you think about something, when you look at the Warriors roster, a lot of old bodies, that defense is going to be key. It's one of the reasons Wil Richard got a lot of time early in his rookie career and his rookie campaign was because he could come on the floor and be a good help side defender. He could be a person that could handle on ball defense. What's why Moses Moody as his game was going up and down, he always still found a way into the rotation because he could handle defensive assignments. And so now you're looking at Yaxl Landiborck and you're like, okay, you can score, but you can also play defense. And we're going to start seeing where a young person playing it alongside the starters, isn't a matter of necessarily necessity. We don't have anyone else as much as it is. He's good and he should play, right? He's in a developmental role still and 24 years old, the Warriors like older rookies. But this is where we're starting, we're going to start seeing the page starting to turn

6:15on the Steph and Curry era going into the next year of youth within the Warriors. And I think that that is exciting to watch. Is that the most exciting thing for fans? I would hope so. They got to know what this next iteration of the Warriors looks like. And as of last Saturday. Well, look, the fans that I know, the Warriors fans that I know want to see another competitive run for Steph Curry. Yeah, I get that. I get that. But I also think there's a factor of managing the closing window and managing decline. And I feel like maybe as much as they can, as much as they can be excited about that, the Warriors that necessarily manage this offseason to fulfill that aspect, right? That's true. But if you're really excited about a final run for the Steph and Curry era, what does that give? It gives championship or bust energy, right? It gives go, you know, swing big for the fences and see what happens.

7:15That's not to say they didn't. We know that the Warriors were involved in the conversations around LeBron. They just didn't quite get there. They stayed put on the Anthony Davis situation, which I'm looking back on it. And I'm like, I'm happy they did that, especially with the injuries that they're already managing on their roster. But it didn't feel like the front office of the Golden State Warriors were worried about being excited about one final run for Steph and Curry. I feel like they chose patience. They chose flexibility to be able to potentially make some moves at the trade deadline. And they prioritize, especially bringing back Stephen, I was going to say Stephen Curry, Steve Curry and a lot of the same pieces, they prioritize stability more than they thought about, oh, fireworks around the last run for Steph and so that's why I'm looking at Yaxel and seeing what does that look like alongside Dremon, alongside Steph and alongside the next generation of Warriors? Look, you bring up a really good point.

8:17And before we get into this, like I should mention, I love Steph Curry. People know how big of a fan Dave is of Steph Curry, causing the greatest of all time. And at his best, he can be one of the best players in the NBA. Honestly, at his best going up against anybody in a playoff series, he can be the best player in the world. That's still the capability of what Steph Curry can do. The matter of fact is, last year he played 43 games for the Warriors. That was some knee issues. Those knee issues have felt a little bit more persistent as of late, 37 years old, going into year 18 for himself, a guy who has had a list of lower body injuries. And it's not to say that this is it for him or anything like that, but considering those things, considering the injuries, considering the age, I can understand where the Warriors for office is coming from in the sense of like, okay, can we really go all in and feel like

9:21we can compete against the Oklahoma City Thunder, the San Antonio Spurs, the nicks on the other side or the Pacers or whoever you believe should be in that conversation in the East. Even their roster, I can understand why they are apprehensive to going all in and to your point, maybe it's the younger guys that can help change that equation a little bit. Maybe Yaxal being ahead of the curve, maybe Pajimski taking a step forward, Gis Santos, maybe taking another leap to become a more consistent player. Those are the elements that can change what this team looks like, but moving forward in some next season, what do you think the floor and the ceiling is for this group as it currently stands, knowing all of that, like what's the potential of this group? Right. Stephen Curry is still available to you. Forty wins. And I know, I know they ended up at 37, 45 last year.

10:22They also lost Jimmy Butler halfway through the year. They lose the- They're probably not getting for another half year. Right. Probably not till the top of the year. Same thing with Moses Moody, who's recovering from that Patelotendin injury. But I still think with them coming back into the picture towards the end of the season, or the second half of the season, I still think you can count in 40 wins. You look at the fact that they have some youth. You've got Pajimski. You got Dantth and he mountain back. And you all remember what Dantth and he mountain looked like after coming off of that ACL tear. He came back and was bouncy. He managed the floor well. He spaced the floor well and he was a solid defender. So you get Dantth and he mountain back. You get Brandon Pajimski back. And with- However everybody wants to say about Brandon Pajimski, he does get better. Each year he has improved in some capacity and he continues to put in the work.

11:23And you have Brandon Williams coming over from the maps. Adds a little bit to your guard depth in that regard. He's a score. He can create. He's got to get better at the three ball, but he can create for you. And then you add in the defensive will Richard. You add in Giselle to as we mentioned. Charles Bassy who played really well at the end of the year as a rim runner, a rim protector as well. There's some bodies that you have to be particularly able to give you space when the owls of the world, the owl horror furs, the Christophe's bruising. The stuffing curries have to take a little bit of a rest because they're older. With that, my floor is, there's a ton of champions on that team. So I give me 42. I'll go. Okay. I'll give me 42 actually. They know how to win games. Okay. They know how to win games at the end. Now that's their floor. The ceiling because stuffing curry is 38 years old.

12:26And Raymongreen is now what 35, 36 years old. You don't get Jimmy. Don't get Moses until the second half of the year. I don't see them getting past 48 wins because of just how tough. Okay. Let's say they do get Jimmy back and we don't know what percentage Jimmy will be at when he gets back, right? Same thing with Moody. Sure. Can they win a first round series? Because I don't think they can. That's where. Okay. So when I say that 48, I'm thinking playin'. Okay. All right. I'm thinking playin'. But we've seen Jimmy Butler do some superhero, superhuman type stuff. And he could come back and really be, he's carry teams. Yes. Absolutely. We've seen what he's capable of doing. Absolutely. So I do think I could see them getting to the play and getting to a first round series.

13:29I don't see them winning a first round series. For what it's worth, be buying myself in the butt for that. Your range, it's fair. For what it's worth, your range of like 42 to 48 would slot them into the play and last you. And it would be a play and ish team. And I think you're right. I know like Utah is coming up and I think Utah will be very competitive. Dallas should be interesting if Kyrie is fully healthy. New Orleans has a lot of guys. Maybe they kind of vie for a spot. But this, again, the Western conference is always a slaughter and it's going to be very interesting to see. Okay. When we come back, we'll talk about X factors. What is the X Factor? And maybe I will actually present it to you like this. Is the X Factor for the Golden State Warriors next year?

16:35Just simply, if Christopps porzing is can play more than 20 games. Because like he played 32 games total last year, 17 in Atlanta, 15 in Golden State. The year before that, he played 42 games for the Celtics. And you know, he, it just, I'm not sure. And porzing is play half a season of basketball again and play it because when he plays and what he can do as a floor spacing five, shop locker, room protector, all of those things are exactly what the Golden State Warriors want out of that position. So is it just as simple for the Warriors? You talk about floor and ceiling. Is it just as simple as if porzing is as healthy, we can be the best version of ourselves. If he isn't, they're not. I absolutely love that you're changing X Factor from a person to a situation or a condition.

17:36Because we often too much put it on just one person. And that's what makes I think the X Factor hard to pinpoint for Golden State. Because I also think it could be, you know, does Anthony Mountain keep growing in the way that he's, you know, capable of growing and playing. That was to the point last year when we were talking about the Anthony Mountain is like, people are like, he's about to get a con tracked in the off season. The fact that he opted out, test of rage and C came back is like, okay, I, I prefer, I was going to have him as my X Factor and how he plays, especially when the nights that Stefan has to sit. But I like this better. I like what you're saying about Christophe's saying is availability because you're absolutely right. In the short window that Stefan was available, Christophe's came back, the pick and roll opportunities. And it wasn't just pick and roll, it was pick and pop. It was so much two man game. Like it was beautiful. What was developing with Christophe's and Stefan.

18:39And it was just too late, little too late towards the end of the season. And so yeah, I will absolutely say that's the X Factor. You know what? I might actually expand it. Health. Health in general, right? Health in general is the X Factor for the word availability for such an old team like this. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And also because your two most impactful wing players are going to be coming off of injury. What does that look like? Yeah. What do they look like when they come back? Do you move that expiring contract and Jimmy Butler to get you something in town? Like does he come back in order for you to see something or do you bet on him coming back? Don't move at the trade deadline and see what that health looks like. It's going to be a matter that's the X Factor. Health. It's, I mean, it absolutely is. It's an X Factor for Steph Curry. It's just X Factor for Dream on Green. It's an X Factor for Christopps and Al Horford.

19:41It's just kind of the name of the game when you have this many guys above the age of 35 and I don't even know if Porosengus is above 35. He's just he's 30 years old, but he's just had so much mileage on his body, his lower body that it just makes it a little bit harder to rely on. It's a fascinating thing and I'm very curious to see how the warriors do this. He's really 31 years old. Wow. See that blows your mind at the double check. That is crazy. The three times in the moment that I said that because I wasn't sure, Christopps, for the 31 years old, you kind of it shocks you, right? Because you know, it feels like an eternity ago that he played for the Knicks and whatnot. But yeah, it's true. Okay. We know what the warriors can get out of Steph Curry. We know what Steph Curry can do on the basketball court. That is very, very clear and we just talked about how health is very important to his season. I'm not going to ask about the best player for the Golden State Warriors because we know what the best player for the Golden State Warriors can do. The best rookie for this Warriors team is going to be Yaxel Lendabork.

20:47What do you expect out of Yaxel in his first year? I imagine him being a reprieve defensively for this Golden State team, someone that you're like, all right, sick him. Sick him. I know that they use Moses Moody, right? Like you remember last year, Moses Moody, making Jalen Brunson struggle, making Tyrese Maxie, like some of the most difficult defensive assignments were Moses Moody's. Now I don't think Yaxel is going to get those type of assignments in the guard position because he is much bigger and it's not necessarily his one, his on ball, one on one game that's impressive. But it's his size. It's his switchability. It's his ability to guard on the wing. So he will have bigger, tougher assignments. I imagine he could, you know, he might take on a Kauai type of assignment. They might, you know, stick him with that because of his size.

21:49He's going to be, it's going to be crucial for him to know where he's supposed to be on the floor and on the help side and rotating over. There's going to be a lot of dirty work that Yaxel is going to have to do for this team. He's going to be crashing the glass, being sent to the glass to clean things up, being able, it's not going to be a lot of his scoring is going to be residuals. Offensive glass production, you know, rebounds, things like that, running in transition. But that's what he can do to make things a little bit easier on his old heads, right? Get up before a little bit faster than everybody else. Make a defender have to attest to you first before they have to turn around and figure out what to do with Steph and Curry and Chris Thops or whomever's in the trail, right? He's going to be the spur of energy that we saw Will Richard be so many times for Golden State last year. And that's going to be a good thing for him.

22:51He can do that. He's young. He just came out of school doing that. The question is, and it's always been the question for all the rookies that have come through the Golden State Warrior system. And it's an unfair evaluation of the Golden State Warrior system because a lot of folks say, Steve Kurt doesn't know how to develop rookies or the Warriors don't develop rookies. Yeah, well, guess what? Well, you've got Steph and Curry and Dremon and Clay Thompson and Kevin Durant and all of these well-developed players. Your focus isn't necessarily on developing young talent. But that isn't the case that they're not developing them at all because we have all now seen young talent from the Warriors go on and produce other places. We've seen Ryan Rollins and what he's done in Milwaukee. We know that what Jordan Poole was able to do. We've seen others go from their Gleex system and provide something in other places around the association. But what is Yaxel going to do and how is he going to fit into this system when he's not

23:58the main program? He's not the main focal point. This is something that Brandon Pajemsky had to get through. This is something that John Fickominga had to work through. The person that it's done at the best is Gis Santos. Right? He's the guy that figured out real quick, this ain't for sure. He's been able to inundate himself into the system like 100%. Just be like, I am completely buying into this and it will help me carve. He's an NBA player because of the system. 1000%. So that's what the question now will be for Yaxel. What does that look like for you? Because there is a level to it though. You don't want to make him too much a person that defaults because he's still the future of your program of your franchise. So you don't want him to completely be like, you got it, you pass it. You score it, you whatever. But you do need him to understand who's around him.

25:00And right now that includes NBA champions that are trying to squeeze this nice, smallest little juice left out of this lemon that is, I don't want to call the words a lemon. Hold on. Try to squeeze the last little bit of juice out of this orange. Very nice. Yeah. Is there like a San Francisco fruit that we can talk about? I don't know. Like orange, a lemon, a mango. I don't know. I don't know. Is there like a natural, whatever it doesn't matter. There's there's trees. There's redwoods. I don't know. Redwoods. Yeah. Sure. Squeeze as much as out of the red woods as possible. Do redwoods have sap? We don't know. No idea. No clue. That's okay. I'll find out. I agree with Yaxel. I completely agree. Again, in and date yourself to the system and just be able to say like this is what I am buying into is something that they have looked for in Jonathan Gimengue. They looked for it in James Wiseman. They have looked for it in Brandon Pajewski to hit or miss degrees.

26:03And I think the one thing that Yaxel can bring for this group is athleticism. Yes. Just a guy who can bring an immense amount of athleticism at the wings. And they've been kind of, they've been searching for that, right? With between Moses Moody and Kamenga and, you know, like they just will Richard to a certain degree. They've just been searching for like that wing who can be athletic, who can make multiple plays. And I think Yaxel can, can absolutely bring that to them. There's also a world in which, you know, like Yaxel messes around and gives himself like a unique rookie of the year case. If this team does punch above weight and he's one of the reasons, right? Like if he's putting up numbers and statistically being very impactful and the defender that you are saying he can be, and this Warriors team looks better than we expect, then maybe that's like, that's his rookie of the year case. You know, you might not have the crazy box score numbers or whatever, which brings me to predictions. I want you to make some predictions for the Golden State Warriors heading into this season

27:05in 2026, 2027. Three bold predictions for the Warriors, not necessarily bold. Just three things that you think will happen for the Warriors, whether it's a trade, whether it's a, it's an award, whether it's a firing, whether it's whatever, I don't know, but just something you think will happen for the Golden State Warriors. Okay. Well, because the Warriors are all about stability and I just don't see much being shaken out in terms of their future. The first prediction is, Steph and Curry signs that two year, $137 million extension. Okay. So the, so the, the Steph trade rumors gone. That's yeah. Yeah. And I know that that doesn't feel like a big one, but the fact that people are really thinking that it could happen because of what's happened with, you know, the offseason and, and what the Warriors did or did not do with the offseason. Yeah. And I don't know if you're allowed to the window. I think he's signing. It's, if anything, he might sign right before season starts to rid this team of any clouds

28:11around them and, you know, as the leader of the organization. Correct. Got you. Um, oh, another one. I feel I, it's funny because you've mentioned that. Yaxel could make a case for, um, rookie of the year, rookie of the year. I feel like the same reasoning of the, if this team performs and punches above their weight. That you could see a case for, um, either a most improved or a six man in Brandon Williams. Oh, Brandon did not expect that. I thought you were going to say like a key Santos. Yeah. Maybe a Brandon Pajimski. Yeah. But Brandon Williams. Okay. Make the kid. I like it. I think so. Honestly, I mean, one, I just vividly remember how Brandon Williams played against the Warriors. Yeah. He played very well.

29:11He's fun. He's fun. Right. He's a lot of fun. And I, I just imagine you're coming in with the second unit, uh, and you're, you're playing loose. Your job is to just score. Right. And just keep the energy up. You could see him put up some crazy numbers with the right people around him, especially if in that second unit, right? Like in that second unit, if he is the focal point, he has the opportunity to, you know what this makes me think of two, three years ago when their first unit was playing the same Helio centric movement, you know, like off ball movement lots of cuts. Yeah. What we know. Yeah. I was in a basketball with that first unit with Stefan. And they remember when Chris Paul came in, right. And it was all this pick and roll. And it was a completely different type of basketball being played in the second unit. Yep. I see that happening for Brandon. Okay. Okay. Why is this crazy? I know it's a bold one. It's a bold one.

30:12I like it. I like it. Yeah. Exactly. Um, what else could be really, really fun? Well, okay. I'll ask you this. Does Jimmy Butler get traded? Okay. I know you were going to ask me that. I knew that was going to be one of those predictions. Huh? I. I could see that happening. I could see that happening, and. Okay, I'll say this the only way I see that happening. Is if he comes back in time. To be able to evaluate it. I don't see them, preemptively, preemptively trading him. Right. I, the warriors front office are so loyal. They're just so loyal to their players and they, after what they did for Clay, and I know it's Clay. It's not, I mean, Jimmy is not Clay. We know he hasn't had that same level of, you know, imprint on the warriors organization, but the love is there for Jimmy Butler.

31:14And it's reciprocal. So I really do not see them being like, you know what? Go rehab somewhere else. We're good. Thank you so much for everything you did. But bye. Yeah, I don't see him. I don't see him. So I feel like he has to come back. And if he's not shaking off the rust in the right way, I feel like they have no choice. But to move him, his one year, 50, 30 million, I believe it is. Something, I know, it's up to get something to make a run for Steph and Curry. Yeah, I think it will depend on how good they are, you know, because if they are, and also about like who is available, you know, in the trade market for them. For, but it's 1000%. So my question to you, do you think they'll go back to the market for Anthony Davis? If the price is right, I could see that. Yeah, because I, again, I understand

32:16and maybe this is like my closing remark here about the Golden State Warriors. But I, I, I know it's easy to be like, the Warriors are not helping Steph Curry win now. And even me, I'm prone to feeling that way sometimes where it's like, give your best player, the best player you've ever had in franchise history. I'll respect a wheelchair bullet, but like the best player you've ever had in franchise history. Like give him the opportunity and the chance to win as much as you possibly can consistently. But that being said, like you look at, you zoom out to Steph Curry's career and it's like four time MBA champion, four championships, four titles in eight seasons. You obviously get that illustrious finals MVP, a two time MVP, one time unanimous. Like this is one of the greatest careers of all time. And I think there is something beautiful, poetic to just gracefully saying it is what it is

33:20and not constantly trying to kick the can and get one star to come in and be star to come in, whether it's Anthony Davis or whoever and spending and splurging and splurging. Like I think there is something even honorable to Steph not necessarily being the guy to put pressure on the Warriors front office to make those type of moves. Maybe people will disagree with that because I can understand the like we have to go all in all the time. Winning means everything. But to Steph Curry, I feel like even he has been satisfied with what his career has been. Not necessarily satisfied competitively. He always wants to win. He always wants a chance to win a championship. They all are wired like that. But just from a career standpoint and you talked about squeezing as much juice as possible, they have squeezed the best of orange juice possible out of this thing. You know, I get what you're saying.

34:23But knowing how competitive Steph and Curry is, MS, I mean, Steph and just won that gold at the Olympics. He was incredible. Yeah. And he was incredible. And I feel like that's not the last title he wants to win. Right? And he's already kind of said he's not, I don't think there are count him, he's counting himself out for the next Olympics. Yeah. Like I absolutely believe that Steph and Curry still wants one more crack at this thing. I do think what you're calling out about him, you know, it being honorable about him not about him, you know, it being honorable about him not pressuring publicly or, you know, whatever the case may be about what the warriors are doing to provide him a support or supporting cast, that to me, that just might be learning a lesson. Like who's to say, Steph and Curry earlier in his career didn't try to do that and a backfire. And now he's kind of like, you know what?

35:24Y'all got it. And we've heard that Steph and Curry has been in conversations and, you know, to get players to come to the warriors, et cetera. But it's not, he has seen that it doesn't always help to try and pressure your front office to do something. It might be better to work in tandem behind the scenes. And clearly, and we'll see, the second he signs this extension, that's when you'll know. To me, there's, though, we two stories that we could, you could look at that signature to be, I'm happy with where I'm at. Let me close this out peacefully. This has been nice, it's been a great run, et cetera. I think it's, I'm only signing this because now y'all know you better do something now. But we got to get going. But yeah, that second side to that, yeah. I guess.

They tried to go after Kevin Durant, Kevin Durant basically said he wasn't down for a reunion. They tried to go after LeBron James. They've tried to go to go after Anthony Davis. They try to go after Collie. Like, there's been, there's been movement. It just, they, I feel like that's why I am thinking

37:25that they are of the latter, which is, they're making do with what has happened. And I like the way he put it. It is what it is. But I absolutely do not think that they're kind of laying down the lore of Stefan Curry and what could happen with him. I still think they'll be competitive or try to be competitive at the deadline. And that, rightfully so. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We'll see what happens. It is a very interesting. It's genuinely, you know, going into this pot, I was like, I don't necessarily know what is there to talk about with this Warriors team that is virtually the same.
