2:06We'll talk about exactly why Miami didn't move up in the AP Top 25, why the Hurricanes stood at number seven. And why it's the most ridiculous reason you'll ever see for a team not moving up. But let's talk about the playmaker, Michael Irvin. Because yeah, that's the pro football hall of fame or who heaped the ultimate praise on Miami's Malachitone. And I know people will say, well, Michael's a Miami guy. So of course he's going to say that no, there was sincerity in what Irvin had to say on his YouTube channel about the man we call Baby Jesus in Malachitone. The man who hasn't even turned 19 years old yet, Tony's about a week and a half away from his 19th birthday. And Michael Irvin said, this is the greatest receiver I've ever laid my eyes on. His timing is so perfect. His patience is over the top. This young man is the greatest receiver I've ever laid my eyes on. I've never seen anything like this, Michael said.

3:09This dude will not slow down. He's only going to get better. He's so dialed in. He's doing some of the greatest things, Michael said, I've ever seen on a football field college or pro. And Irvin also, he waxed poetic in a way only he can. Because he's just such a great speaker about how lucky Miami is that this player is a hurricane, right? We're not watching Malachite somewhere else. Yeah, I mean, even though Malachitone is a South Florida kid, we've seen other South Florida kids like Jeremiah Smith, you know, choose to take the route of going to Ohio State because of all the NFL receivers. They had put into the league and all that where Malachitone decided to put on for his hometown. And it's something every Miami fan should be so appreciative of that and don't take it for granted. Because Tony could have literally gone to any school in the country. There's not a single university in America that wouldn't beg to have this guy on their

4:11team. And Irvin also talked about how, you know, how fortunate he is that God still has him on this earth that he can witness what Malachitone is doing. So I mean, I could listen to Michael speak for hours. He is just so, so incredibly articulate, you know, and the way he describes these things. And it's very high praise. Malachite has also received high praise from David Pollock, you know, long time college game day host. He's now with on three. He's a college football Hall of Famer. David Pollock has said he said it before the season. He doubled down on it after the Stanford game that he would rather have Malachitone on his team than Jeremiah Smith. And went out of his way to say that's not a slight toward Smith. That's taking nothing away. That just shows you how much he believes in Malachitone. David Pollock and the playmaker Michael Irvin. And by the time Malachitone just in terms of the numbers, and I take nothing away from

5:11Michael because he's, you know, one of the greatest canes of all time. But Tony, Tony is going to statistically and in a lot of ways, probably even eclipse what the playmaker has done. I mean, Tony already has virtually every relevant single season record, yardage, and catches from last year. Now he's got the single game record where he passed downtown Eddie Brown last week with 234 reception yards after Eddie Brown's record of 220 had stood for 42 years. And Tony already has three touchdowns. He had 13 total touchdowns this last season. And I'll say this about Tony and, you know, Pollock was right to point this out just how many different things Tony does. Here's the scary thing for the rest of the season. What we saw from Tony against Stanford, relatively speaking, was probably the most vanilla version of Malachai we're going to see all season.

6:12Maybe the fan view game, because Miami doesn't have to go very deep into the playbook for that one. I wouldn't think, right? But Malachai did all of his damage. And I'm not going to minimize what he does because his route running is incredible. His moves after the catch. He's so advanced. But what we haven't seen from Tony yet are passing attempts, which you know, we're going to get throughout the year. At some point this year, we're going to get a Malachai Tony to Darian Menta touchdown pass. I can guarantee you that. I don't know when, but I know it's going to happen. We haven't had any of that yet. We haven't had any carries from Tony. No endarounds, no trick plays to speak of. So we're only at the tip of the iceberg right now. Like the captain of the Titanic should have known this, but isn't like 80 or 90% of the iceberg is below the water. We've only seen the tip of that iceberg so far from Malachai Tony. And what he does out there, folks, it's not a coincidence.

7:13And I think any Miami fan who really pays attention, you know, you've seen the documentary footage. You hear the stories. The people like me tell about how early he is into that facility, 5 a.m. every single day and how it doesn't really seem like he's got many hobbies outside of football, which for us is a great thing. It's not a coincidence with how well he plays. It's how much work he puts into it. Not all of this is just the God given talent. The talent is a great starting point. The hard work puts it over the top. And I can guarantee you, if and when Malachai, and I'm sure he has heard it, or will hear it, when he hears what Michael says about him, that's not going to make him complacent. It's just going to make him work even harder because he's going to want to get even better after hearing that sort of praise. And I asked Darian Mensa, you know, we had media availability with Miami's quarterback one yesterday. And I asked Darian about the instant chemistry. And I know it wasn't really instant because they worked for months on this, but the chemistry

8:14that he has with Malachai and really what it's like to play with Tony and Mensa said, he's a special person and obviously a special player. He makes my job extremely easy as a quarterback. He's almost like having another quarterback on the field because of how well he understands defenses. It starts with staying after practice and throwing routes. He's one of the first players in the building and one of the last to leave. He truly lives that, when he Mensa said, one of the hardest workers I've been around and we've collaborated in pursuit of greatness. He's truly inspiring. So Tony's work ethic and Mensa was already a hard worker, right? And he's talked about how, you know, when he made the jump from too lame to Duke, things got more detail oriented at Duke and now things are even more detail oriented at Miami. There's a lot of folks including Mensa that work really hard. But when they see the way Malachai works and just how much time he puts into that, it's inspiring, right? The same way two years ago, Cam Ward's work ethic was inspiring Xavier Restrepo.

9:18Malachai Tony is carrying that torch for some of the greats that have come before him in this building. That's how you spread culture. It goes year from year, right? Malachai Tony now in a couple of years, you hope Nick Lanira, Mir Sears, players like that are continuing to set that example for future Miami Hurricanes teammates on how to work. So you love to hear that from Darian Mensa getting that extra inspiration from Malachai Tony and the two of them already have one of the most special connections in the country. And Tony, Tony with his 234 receiving yards in one game. There's a handful of really good receivers out there that have already played two games because week zero and week one, Tony with just one game played is on top of the nation with his 234 yards. That's the most in the country right now. Darian Mensa with his 401 passing yards is actually ninth right now. So he's going to have to pick up some slack. I'm sure he will. Folks, we have to get to on the other side.

10:21More and more has come out as to exactly why Miami didn't jump in front of Oregon, despite the fact that Oregon, they won their game against Boise State. But as Brian Smith said with us yesterday, it didn't look like Oregon wanted to be on that field. It was a very uninspiring performance. And it turns out the reason Miami didn't move up might have actually been an oversteer site on the part of an AP voter. 13:31We're also going to be answering questions from every day or club members. If you're in the every day or club, you get exclusive one-on-one texting with me. Now we got a question from Terry who says, hey, how and why is Oregon ranked ahead of us after that abysmal performance against Boise State, which was a home game for that. I was at Otsin. It wasn't on the blue turf. It was at home. They were supposed to blow Boise State. I'll give them credit. They're a team that's going to be in the mix for like the group of six playoff spots. So I'm not saying Boise State is terrible. But if Oregon was really a top six team or a top two team at that time, they should have really taken care of business on their home field and they did not. And it turns out, as you see, the new AP poll. So Oregon fell from number two to number six. Miami stood at number seven. And folks, the reason why Miami is still at number seven and didn't jump in front of Oregon

14:31was an AP voter named Boise State. Brian Fonseca, who's a Rutgers beat writer in New Jersey, who's got an associated press poll vote. And I remember when AP votes used to mean something, it used to be like a really important privilege. The AP writers take a voters, take it very seriously. They research, they watch every game. They're meticulous over their selections. And yet the last couple of years, you remember that woman last year who moved Florida up in her rankings after they lost to USF? Like she's had no idea that game even happened. And so what happened with Fonseca? And we've dug a little deeper on this one. So he left Miami out of his top 25 completely, which is malpractice. And had he not left Miami out completely? Had he had Miami in his top six or top five, Miami would have jumped ahead of Oregon.

15:33Out of the 82 AP votes, someone left Miami out of the top 25 completely. That caused Miami not to move up. And my initial reaction was, okay, the person who did this, he must be a hater, right? He must have some kind of an anti-Miami agenda. But it turns out he's not a hater. He just made a tremendous mistake on his ballot. Even though he hasn't publicly clarified it. And I don't know if he ever will because his strategy might just be, you know what, let me just say nothing. But you can actually, in the AP, I give him credit, they do a really good job actually with the transparency of their votes. Like when you go to the AP top 25 page, you can click on every individual voter and look at their ballot. And you can look at their ballots week by week, okay? So, Fonseca actually preseason the ballot that he submitted a couple weeks ago had Miami at number six, right?

16:41And then what Miami did since preseason was they beat Stanford 45 to six and looked pretty good doing it, right? And then he has Miami completely left off the following week. So even though he hasn't personally said anything about why he left Miami out, having number six in preseason, not ranked second week, it's pretty obvious. He forgot to put Miami on his ballot. Now, you tell me, is that better than having an agenda against Miami? Like, which is worse? Being biased against a team which doesn't seem to be the case here or incompetence of not putting a team, you had number six the week before on your ballot at all the following week. So, I don't know what's going to happen in the week two ballots. And of course, Miami plays fam you this week. So it's going to be hard for Miami to really move up in the eyes of most of the voters,

17:43because no matter what Miami does tomorrow night, you're going to look at the opponent. It's an FCS opponent. But maybe if Fonseca remembers to put Miami on his ballot the next week, then you might actually see Miami move up a spot or two despite the game being against fam you this week. But it looks like, I don't know what you call that, an oversight, a clerical error. That looks to be the reason why Miami didn't move up. So thank you, Terry, for the question. We get a question. This is a good one from Tallahassee Kane, who says, in Tallahassee, I hope your electric bill was paid. Tallahassee Kane, because I hear that that's an issue up there, at least at Donk Campbell Stadium. How much of what you saw, he says, do you think are real concerns versus easy fixes over the next couple of weeks? So to answer that question, the only thing that I'm truly concerned about right now is Miami not suffering any more injuries, specifically in the defensive backfield.

18:48Because your depth is already getting tested there. And Miami has depth there. The problem is it always seems like when you start getting injuries, they're always the same position group for some reason, right? So we know, OJ Frederic is going to be out for probably the majority of the season. And Jibori Antoine is going to miss a little more time here. Probably this is estimations on my part, because Miami is not specific on the timelines, but Antoine's probably going to miss a few more weeks. I would think just based on the way Christa Ball talked about it. So you can't really afford too many more injuries at those spots. And so yeah, that's right now health. It's the only thing I'm really concerned about, because all the other stuff we criticize, I'm not going to say easily fixable, because nothing's easy. You have to work at it. But I think any other nitpick we had from game one is fixable. The offensive line, the only guy on that unit who had a significant number of starts

19:49before Friday was Matt McCoy. Everyone else had two starts or less coming into that game. And they kept Darian Mences jersey clean. No sacks, only five pressures allowed. Mences was blitzed eight times and had 156 passing cards and two touchdowns in blitzing situations. So the offensive line, and I know it was Stanford, you're going to have harder defenses later on. I get it. But the offensive line did their job. The run blocking could be better, but they also face loaded boxes. But that was probably that was probably the worst performance you're going to see all season from Miami's O line, because they're going to continue to gel and get better. And then, you know, I worry about the secondary injuries, of course, but schematic wise, I think we're going to see more aggression and just more of that swarming. The Corey Heatherman wants in the future. And I think they're going to tighten up the past coverage a little bit. So I think all that stuff is fixable. Tallahassee Kane to answer your question. And again, I really appreciate the attitude of Miami's players.

20:53You know, when we had a chance to speak with Marquis Lightfoot yesterday, who I thought had a pretty good game. One, Lightfoot led the team in tackles with nine. Was really good against the run. And Lightfoot was asked by a streeter from Kaneville to rate his own performance. And Lightfoot said five out of ten. He was not satisfied with himself. He said he left a lot of meat on the bone. He didn't like his own performance. It's great. But anyway, I thought he had a good game objectively. Most people who watched would say Marquis Lightfoot played really well. But he is far from satisfied. And that's the attitude that all of these players appear to have. And I love it. Never be satisfied. Always be striving to be better. That's exactly what we need. We get a question from our friend ITK, ITKMCHI, who says, I was curious about the crowd noise at Stanford. Did you hear any feedback from Miami fans there? It didn't seem like much on TV. I heard some Miami chants in the background. My worry is that we don't have true crowd noise until Clemson.

21:57I'm wondering how the old line in the offense will react. Penalty-wise to that kind of environment. Yeah, but you guys know I wasn't at the Stanford game, but we had Mark James on the show on Monday who was there. And yeah, it was not really a factor. Like crowd noise. And Stanford is notorious for that. I have some friends who covered the old Pact 12. And Stanford was notorious for being a difficult stadium to play in because it was so quiet. It's like playing inside a cathedral. So, you know, that's not going to prepare you for death Valley. And listen, Clemson looks awful on the field. I'm sure their fans will be fired up and everything. It's not going to prepare you for that environment. It's not going to prepare you for South Bend. So no, I mean, I don't think Stanford will do anything for getting Miami ready for that. But they simulate that in practice. In that indoor facility, you can even hear it outside the facility when they start blasting in the simulated crowd noise.

22:58Like they're going to be ready for it. It's the decibel level is going to be through the roof with the speakers and the subwoofers that they have inside the IPF. Which again, that's not preparation for actually being out there. But Miami is going to do whatever they can. Stanford was not good preparation for that for sure. Oh man, we got a question about injuries on defense. And if things could resemble 2024, you know, I got a, I got to get on that question. Plus 2014 college football playoff, the CFP released a statement yesterday. They're looking into it. Should they be and what will happen if we expand? 27:12We get a question from Grace. Hello, Grace. Not a specific hurricane's question, but I read something from Heather Dinnich about a 24 team playoff being negotiated. What would that look like for college football as a whole and for the length of season? All right, Grace. So the biggest tangible change would be conference championship games would be eliminated entirely. So I would say Miami better win the ACC championship game this year because you may not have any opportunities to do so again. So conference championship games would go away because there would no longer be really a need for them with so many teams getting into the playoff plus. You need to cut down the regular season and make as much room for extra playoff games as possible. So that's the most tangible effect. Now the theoretical effect of this that I do agree that this would happen and I don't think it's good for the sport is that the regular season. Stakes would just not be as high right for some of the biggest regular season games between top

28:17teams. Those top teams would have more room for error. Individual losses would not be as damaging to your playoff chances. So like you could even get to a point. We don't really have this right now even with a 12 team or with a 24 teamer. For some end of season matchups you might even have like some of the top schools resting their players because they're already locked into the playoff. So it's like you know that's something that happens in the NFL which I don't think anybody really likes. That's why the fantasy championships are usually before the final game of the season and it's something that could happen in college. So you know I just think it dilutes the game and Mario Cristobal hates it. Mario Cristobal is outspoken against 24 because you're just not really earning it as much right of a you're still one of the top 24 teams in the country but top 12 is just more meaningful. Cristobal also hates like auto bids for conferences. He just wants the best 12 teams to be in the CFP and I agree with that I respect it. All right we get a question I think

29:20is this very important to answer from Jake who says hey with the key injuries happening on Miami's defense should we be getting 2024 vibes. 2024 is when Miami's defense couldn't stop a nose bleed for most of that season. I remember there were defensive back injuries earlier that year but there are two reasons why I absolutely do not think we're going to get 2024 vibes. Reason number one Miami's depth on defense is a lot better now than it was two years ago. I'd much rather have players like JJ Donigan and Ethan O'Connor featuring in my secondary then no disrespect but players like Deonie Hill and Jaden Harris. The depth is there and secondly and I could have let off with this one. Don't we all trust Corey Heatherman a lot more than we trusted Lance Gidry. Lance Gidry didn't seem to have a plan B. Corey Heatherman's got a plan A through Z. I would trust

30:24Heatherman a lot more to compensate and by the way I don't want to like sound any alarms or anything. You know O.J. Fred Arieke is going to be out for a while. Jabore Antoine's going to be out for a little bit. Dylan Day safety should be back soon because his issue is illness, not injury. By the way somebody was asking me, a Ponzi was asking me if we're sure that Antoine is injured and it's not like a disciplinary holdout. No he's he's injured. It was described as a lower extremity which I think is a leg injury. So yeah it is injury for Antoine but his doesn't sound as severe as O.J. Fred Arieke's shoulder which is going to keep him out for longer.
