That can't you fall. You fall. I can't believe you slap. Did someone die? No. Is there a spare? No. It wasn't. Yes. We didn't light somebody on fire. It didn't happen. We're glad that Sivine came on the show. In fact, he's still here. He's still here. Yes, I am. And I'm not on fire. You've communicated with me throughout the years. You've been supportive of me throughout the

years. You've come up to me. Doesn't mean that I haven't had a problem with you. Well, how would I know that? Sivine, because why would I have that conversation with you? And I want you because you have presented yourself in a way, as long as I have known you, that if I were to say anything to you, it would go in one ear or not the other and it would not make me. That's that's that's first. That's how I feel. And you can't tell me what I feel is not real. Well, that doesn't mean I can't believe that it's patty false. Sure. Like for example, you go on through a lot in your career at ESPN. When you've reached out and talked to me, there was no deaf ear one going one ear and out the other. That is not true. Now, we could, that's your business. I don't want to go there. But there are details that I can give where I did not ignore what you said. I did. I literally, when you came to me and you expressed a concern, if you expressed this concern about somebody or about something, I would talk to you.

And if there was a way that I could dress that could be of assistance, I would do that. That was a mean I was effective in getting it done. I didn't have that kind of power, but I certainly didn't ignore you. Okay, but so in that same breath, were you telling me you didn't have that kind of power? You, you, you telling me you just said that. I don't know what kind of power what kind of power did you have at the time? I did not express my when I would express my concern. Skip Bayless. Skip Bayless was in the only time, the only relationship intimate relationship that we've had in terms of working together with our first take. You worked on first take from 2012 to 2015. Skip Bayless departed a year later. Make no mistake about it. Skip Bayless was running that show. Absolutely. Skip Bayless. I know there's no, there's no debate about that. Skip Bayless was the one that got me on first take. No debate. Jamie Harrow, which is the formal boss, VP of original content, oversaw numbers never lie. And ultimately, other shows like first take and various other things. Even though he was the boss, he made it very, very clear.

The skip was the man. The skip was the man. Absolutely. And so when what skip wanted, skip got. And the person that was called upon to convince Skip otherwise was me. Sometimes how successful, sometimes I'm not. Do you not know skip Bayless? Oh, listen, so first of all, the skips you're talking about me. Okay, so let me tell you something. This is, so now this leads me and I'll let you have your moment. No, no, we're just like this leads me to you talk about skip being the man. And this was his show. I was, I, we all knew that was the show. I was told by Jamie over and over again. Make sure your skips have me. Hey, Carrie, if you want to weigh in, touch base with Skip to see if he wants to let you weigh in. I understand that you had no pool and you couldn't, I'm not necessarily no pool, but you couldn't say it was limited. It was limited. It was limited. You had it, but, but, but, but, you went on your show and tell and said, you found me from tennis channel and brought me over. I was hired in large part. This is in large part because of you because I was over at tennis channel.

And that's where I took issue. So oftentimes you say fact versus fiction and how you talk about black women and what black women say about you. Here are the facts. I flew myself to Bristol, Connecticut to meet with Jerry Madeline. A year before I got the job at ESPN, I petitioned him for a year. He came to me and said, hey, there's this show called first take. It's open. Do you want to do it? J. Crawford at the time was hosting. He said, you have to meet Skip and Steven A. It's their show, but it's really skip show. But you got to talk to Jamie Horowitz. I went through all of that. You knew you didn't know me. So then when you say on air that you hired, I was hired in large part because of you, it makes it sound like you found me and plucked me out of tennis channel. And none of the hard work, which is what I took issue with. And that's what I addressed. None of the hard work that I put together. And that's just, and that's not fair. Glad you're bringing it up. Before I open my mouth, I want you on camera to give me permission to tell your business about what happened when it came to you being hired on first take.

Go right ahead. All of that you said about Jerry Madeline is true. Jerry Madeline was over the talent office. Jerry Madeline did not have the power to hire anybody for first take that with Jamie Horowitz. Correct. Slash Skip. Right. It would be a real. I'm getting. I'm getting. Before I go any further, I want you to know that before I broached this subject when I went on the air, I spoke to Jerry Madeline. I spoke to Jamie Horowitz. I spoke in all of them as well. And I was spoken to Skip Bayless. I would like you to know that in the last 48 hours, I've spoken to Jamie Horowitz. And I've spoken to Skip Bayless to reconfirm exactly what I'm about to tell you. And if you have any questions about it, you can bring them on your show and ask them yourself. Okay. What you said about the tennis channel coming over from the tennis channel, being recruited by Jerry Madeline is absolutely true. Okay. Jerry Madeline did not have the power to hire. That was Jamie Horowitz. Jamie Horowitz hired you. There was something that happened with you and your past.

The mother sucker on air. I don't know. Yeah. Don't know what happened. You called me. You never calling me about that? No, no, no, we've met face to face. No, no, no, no, you called me on the phone. Yes, but we met face to face because I was doing the SPN radio in Bristol and you ultimately came there and talked to me face to face in studio. I'm not saying I didn't call you. I'm saying when we had the conversation, it was face to face. I don't remember that, but okay. Inside of Radio Studio, I don't blame you for not putting in a room. Okay. Trust me. I like it. There's a lot of things like the thing in Bristol. But the point that I'm making to you is that because of that, Skip Bayless did not want to hire you. I was told of that. Right. Yeah. I'm telling you, Steve Bayless did not want you. James. Did you? That's not true. Steve, and I was told I was not your help me and verify this because I was saying I was going to say the candidate that was supposed to be the was hiding the job was someone where something came to light about their social media activity that they did not like. Okay. What I'm saying to y'all is, is somebody else sitting in front of your face right now telling you that's not true about me.

I mean, I'm telling you that's not true. This is one of these moments where you and I are going to disagree, but please continue to tell me about something that's factual. Because I'm telling you that you and I, I don't remember you. You told me, you told me, you just been the same. That's not what you heard. I'm telling you what I know because it was me. Okay. I didn't say about somebody else. No, finish the story. I don't want to get it done. Skip Bayless did not want you because of that stuff. Right. That was scraped off Google whatever it was. Jamie Harwoods comes to me and says, I want to hire this girl. How do you feel about it? I said, I like to bring on. And he said, skip doesn't want to. You got to talk skip out of feeling the way that he feels. Where you come in where the divide exists between your interpretation of things and what I know happened is the credit that I'm taking is that I had to go talk to skip. Not that I found you. Not that I discovered you because I didn't know you.

I went to skip and was like, yo, what's the matter with you? What's wrong? Why not? Why not bring on? And I said, you're damn right. And by the way, she's a sister and we, you know, we need some of that up in here. Because if you recall, you had had Jamel and Michael and others that were contributing to the show. But if you looked at the producers, if you looked at Jay Crawford with Dana Jacobson before that, if you looked at the producers and around and all that other stuff, there wasn't too many people that looked like us. So when Jamie Harwoods brought me on board, that was one of my mandates. I was like, look, man, we got to sprinkle this up in here. We got to have some of us up in here. I'm not going to just be working with a whole bunch of white folks. I don't mind a mosaic. I don't mind diversity, but this got to be diversity this way. But if fairness skip did start that because before, yes, he totally did. It was totally him. It was why he gets ultra sensitive when the implication is that that's why I went on my podcast. I said, yeah, he did start this. I said, I was so busy dressing y'all that I didn't bring up the fact that skip started all of this. My point to you is that what I mean when I say I assisted is that skip was the ultimate say.

Skip originally did not want you hired. And I was the one sent by Jamie to go and convince him and to convince skip. I can't and by the way, I can't refute that. But the way you would see, yeah, but no, but the way that you that's why the way you presented it. That was you presented it. You said you were hired in a large part with me. You stayed as long as you stayed because of me because of the support. Don't let me talk to the bosses me, doggin carry champion. Why did you want the attention? And then you said, you in fact, on the record can do that. And I said, you know what, Steven, I didn't like the idea of you acting like you plucked me out of obscurity and ignoring all of the hard work that I put to get into that point. There would have been no way that I would have been at ESPN or even standing in front of Jerry Madeline had I not spend my little money and sat in front of that office for three hours and waited for him to come out and say, hi, let me introduce you to some people. And then for the next year, literally petition him by sending my resume real.

He didn't hire me, but he in fact, pushed me into the envelope room. Is it, hey, Jamie, you looking for a host and you just want her to tee up? What about her, which Jerry Madeline would happily confirm? Yes, but my point is you didn't present it that way. You didn't present it that way. I was asked and I need you to acknowledge my hard work before I even met you. Well, because it feels disrespectful. Again, you're talking, but you're not letting me talk. Yeah, because I want you to hear what I have to say. Yeah, but I'm hearing you, but you're not wanting to hear what I'm saying. Okay, what are you saying? What I'm saying to you is that regardless. Thank you so much. Perfect. I appreciate it. Perfect. Perfect. I mean, I mean, carry champion. This world is littered with people who work their ass off in our credential and deserve the opportunities and don't get them. The fact that the matter is everything that you're saying about your hard work, leading up to you arriving on ESPN is valid, but that is not what would have gotten you hired.

Jesus got me to job. God got me to job. Like I'm not in. Yes, you played eight. Can I say something? Thank you. I'm talking about skip. Thank you for talking to skip. But hold on, let me say this. So we can be really clear. I thank you for talking to skip, because I know how you can be. And a lot of the times that you were there at first, take that was your role to massage him and make him feel a little better in the sense of he is how he is a very particular type of man. And so if that conversation, he's particular. I don't know what he's particularly. He's particularly. But he's done a lot for a lot of us. And he did a lot for all of us. You all shared your platform with me, but you have to understand the way in which I responded. I never denied the fact that you and skip gave me a platform. And I wouldn't say welcome to me, but he shared your platform with me. And you didn't have to do that. I acknowledge all of that. I don't ever want to throw or dismiss that away. But in company with that, Stephen A, I also am acknowledging my hard work.

What you did for me, according to you and your conversations. And I, because he does have a point, you heard he was there. I don't know where the truth is. I'm going to say it's somewhere in the middle, because we all have our own versions of it. But I do remember you calling me because there was a, whether I cursed on air or not. And you let me know. And no one's certain terms that that was an uncomfortable situation. And you weren't sure about whether or not I should be sitting up there with you guys. And so imagine someone who doesn't know much about you and or skip getting a call from somebody before he even start the job telling me, hey, yo, hey, yo, I don't know what's going on with you or whether or not you did this or not. But yo, and I said, okay, and I took it. I took it, Stephen A. I take the hazing. I take all of it. And I am still very, very appreciative of whatever opportunities that I've given in combination with you, Rochelle, Jamie, and even skip. But I did not like the only issue that I have. And I don't want to go about into the need, the meat of it that you acted like you plucked me out of obscurity. The way in which you presented that in that seven minute roast,

you gave me, which I'm taking was like, oh, yeah, if I want to, I hired you, Carrie. And then they all go around, he hired her. You read no, no, no, no, no. Watched. No, I'm saying you just read. You just read what I said. I didn't scatter. I said exactly what I said. You didn't find me at 10, I'm saying to you. You didn't find me at 10, I didn't say I found you at 10, I found what I said was. I got your hired. Meaning skip wasn't going to hire you. Skip was going to hire me. Jamie was going to hire me and he was making sure that you watched it from my understanding. Jamie, Jamie Horowitz was going to do when it comes to talent. Behind the scenes with producers and everything else is different. But in front of that camera, I can assure you. And most importantly, this is the kind of stuff that makes me uncomfortable to be very transparent because I know you know better. Wait, what are you talking about? I'm telling you, I'm telling you, I'm telling you.

Jamie Horowitz, when it came to on air talent, there was nobody that was going to be on that show that skipped in one. I'm not talking about producers. I'm not talking about anybody behind the scenes. But in front of that camera, especially somebody that would be sitting next to him five days a week, Harry Champion, you absolutely positively know that even though Jamie was the boss, he was going to do whatever skipped what did him to do with all. I'm going to tell you, Jamie told me something different, even though you talked to him four days, eight hours ago. Jamie told me something completely different. Okay. And so maybe I need to bring him back on the show. Jamie did not tell me that, but I don't want to get in. I don't care about what Jamie said. What I care about is you making it sound like I didn't do anything on my own. And my mirror did not have. Has nothing to do with what you did on your own. I'm not questioning that. I'm saying you know you're not questioning it, but you're at the time. I know you're not questioning it, Steven A, but you are not acknowledging it. And that's all I'm saying. When you tell the story of how you were in large part, responsible for hiring me, please

don't forget the part where I also worked hard as well. That's all I'm saying. That's all the hey, that's all I'm saying. I'm not battling with you. That's all I'm saying. That's all you say. Yes, because it sounds like you the way you presented is like here she is. Let me help this. I'm simply presenting it as somebody that worked on the show that was completely empowered to skip bailiffs and no matter what you accomplished, you were not coming to first take without skips blessing. Oh, that's all. No bodies are you doing that? Skip bailiffs. But you're not even listening, but you're not even listening. I'm not arguing that. I'm not arguing that. I was out for a quick walk between meetings, passing the same row of shops I always do. The smell of fresh bread from the bakery, delivery trucks unloading boxes, when a travel magazine in a storefront window caught my eye. On the cover was a photo of a boutique hotel in Copenhagen I stayed at years ago. The one with the cozy lobby fireplace and those big windows overlooking the canal.

In that moment, my head wasn't on work anymore. I went from a sidewalk full of errands to picturing myself right back in that hotel. Getting from that everyday moment to that memory didn't feel complicated. Booking.com made it easy to find that same stay again. The search, the options, the clarity around what I was booking. I knew a prescription. I'm not arguing that. I knew that I didn't know that you had to convince him, but the way in which you tell the story is like you going through the resume reels. And I was also told, and you can say you were, I was also told you did want me. I was told by several people who worked on the show that you wanted me. If I did not want you, that I was. Get what I'm never. I was never. I was never. No, I wasn't. I know. Who was it? Who was my number one choice? Please tell me, ladies. I don't want to name the name. Okay. But again, as I said, I don't even recall. I interviewed for the job I had just gotten started. I was. I was. I was. I was. I feel. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. Well, I. Jamal. Well, I was one. Yes. I. No. No. No, I did. No, no, no, no, listen to me. I never believed you were a host because you were a journalist. And I thought you should be sitting across from us. Oh, no. I was totally. That's how I was. You totally.

Not as a host. I viewed her as a debater. No, I was. Who was this other person? Well, there was multiple people that was that were brought in. I don't want to. I feel. And then you started in 2012. Yes. When did I start? I. April 2000. The. Yeah, I was like, you had just been there. Like, it'd only been a few months when they have read you, imagine the show, but not to get too deep. You. Okay. If we. Okay. And I. We don't want to be too deep into. Right. You're right. It's really to explain. So when Kerry brought that forth in general, um, is that. Understand that during that time, you know, I welcome Kerry. We became really good friends. And I'm. I got my own show, Dylan, my own show. And I'm outside looking in. And frankly, I'm seeing a lot of things on air that I didn't like. And I had a conversation with Kerry conversation. Probably didn't love to hear at times because she's trying to find her way at YsP. And and Steven, I you know this that YsP is a tough place. And then everybody's fighting for real estate,

real estate fighting to be heard, fighting for their position. Sure. And the way that sometimes you all treated her on air made me uncomfortable. So in understanding as her friend, I'm her sounding board. So I'm hearing what she's dealing with on a daily basis. Not even hearing. You're watching. I'm hearing and I'm watching, right? I'm watching just from afar and what I see of the dynamic and having done this show, knowing how the dynamic of the show is. So when I chose to stick up for Kerry is because I understood her truth. And maybe it wasn't something that she shared with you on a daily basis. Because frankly, you're not trying to always bring all that to work. And certainly not to all of your colleagues, especially if you're not sure if you can trust them. But there was, I mean, we laugh about this all the time. I had to talk her out of quitting because of the treatment that she felt like she was receiving on that show. And so having to be on the other end of that and hearing that as a friend and really disappointed me that there wasn't a better environment for her on the show.

Skid Bayless literally stopped talking to me. I'm not spoken to this man in a decade because I stuck up for her. He literally stopped talking to me. He sent me a long email reminding me of everything that he did for me in my career and essentially called me a traitor. And I'm like, is this the environment on the show that you're dealing with? Like, what is this? I think that what we're saying to you, Stephen A is, and this is for this point and we, there are bigger issues. I don't think that I sit here and say, I don't fool with Stephen A. In the sense that we have a relationship with you. I have a working relationship with you. I know you. But, Stephen A, the self-reflection, the self-awareness is lacking. And you have to win at all costs. I understand that. That's where you are right now. But you act like what I'm saying and what I went through is a figment of my imagination and that I have no right to feel away.

And that part hurts me. And me now mentioning it is because of the environment that we are in as a society. And I feel like women, black women more specifically, we're at a detriment, we're down bad. And we need help. And when I see you, not always advocating for us in a public way, because again, you have pointed out and you are not wrong, the things that you have done for the black community, the things that you have done for journalists, that's great. But the two feelings can coexist. You can also show non-support by being silent. That's also a way by not supporting. You know without talking about the specifics of the things that I went through, I even got to get into it. You know what it was. You knew how hard it was for me to be on that show. And I never, ever really felt like you had my back. But what you did do behind the scenes, I don't know.

I don't know what you did behind the scenes. To your point earlier, maybe you were doing all of these things to keep me around and stay around. I believe that you said good things about me when I wasn't paying attention and when I wasn't there. But I also know how it felt to sit at that desk doing some tough times that I don't want to get into because you said you don't like to talk about it. But you, I can name four or five instances where I had nothing to do with the drama that went around but yet and still I was being punished for it. How would you be punished? For example, well, do you want to talk about it? Can we talk about anything? I'm here. Let's go right right. Let's go right right. I'm not, you go there too. But before we get there, I'm not going to let you all get away with that. Not so fast. Would you do away with what? Let's do away with what? Let's talk about first. Okay. I'm not going to throw skit balers under the bus and I'm not saying that you're all right. You have a right to tell your truth. Let me be very, very clear about that. And that's what skip to answer. I'm going to tell you what I know and I'm going to tell you what I know.

When we talk about first take, you just acknowledge that in terms of igniting the debate format and having black folks at tables, stuff like that, that was skit balers. He admitted all of that, right? Skit balers had this hard and fast rule. He didn't give a damn who it was. Carry your notice better than anybody. If you were in the moderators chair, he didn't want you talking. He wanted you asking the question, moving out the way, letting the debate, people debate, and then take it away and go to commercial. It applied to you. Even when Jay Crawford was hosting the show, even though it was different back then when it was Cold Pizza and there were other elements of joke. When it came to the actual debate itself, skip don't want to talk to nobody, but the person he's debating. That's his MO. I'm the guy that wanted to include everybody. I'm like, whoever's got them opinions, whatever makes it work, that makes it more exciting, rather than just seeing the same two people, but in his all the time.

That was why once he departed, I changed that format because I like the interactive voices. I like the pulporeal voices coming in a different direction than you don't know who's feeling what, who's feeling what in the particular moment. I love that stuff because I think it makes for more exciting television. The more the merrier is black is white, this male is female, this old is young, whatever the case because when it gets out there, when it gets disseminated, all of a sudden, the whole audience knows there's no view that's not being represented. And so what happened is that you were there at a time when skip was in control and skip didn't want the moderated doing but so much. That's a hard damn job, which is why I never, never want to want you to have an adjo. I knew that was not with with with with her extensive journalism background at ESPN. I'm like, she's a debater. She's not a host. You came on as a host, knowing the mandate because Jamie was fixated on the mandate, married to it just as much as skip.

I don't think that they let me know what it was until I knew what it was. And I tried to tell it by the way. She tried to tell me no one came in and said your job is to tee up and lay out. No one said that. They didn't give me that in this chill. No, I don't remember you saying it. That's why I said, can I say something? I'm saying to you again, let's not play semantics here. I know that we spoke on the phone. I'm not saying we did it. I'm saying the follow up conversation was when I hosted an afternoon show on ESPN radio in Bristol. And I guess it was the next day you had an left town yet or whatever it was. You came in and you sat next to me and you saw me and we spoke. And I'm saying to you, it was at that moment of time that I told you even more extensively about skip and what the challenge of the job was going to be. Yeah, I, I'm not saying you to do it. I don't remember which is why I'm very honest. I can't say I can't say I can't argue with you. Remember you don't remember. Yeah, but that's why I said at the beginning was established and baselines. We're we're going to see some things differently. It's been 10 years. I'm saying you tell

me you don't remember I believe I legitimately don't have a year. I legitimately don't believe it. But I do remember this one pulling me aside and saying I don't like the way they talk to you. I don't like the way that you don't get to have any any conversation. And I sat to her a.o. I just got here. Let me try to like let me figure it out. Let me figure it out. Because some of the conversations you guys were having I thought carries a opinion and perspective would have softened it. Case in the domestic violence. But I don't have I've never I've never had a problem with it. What I would do. Yeah, I'm not a carrier. It's like this. Look, you know, he wants to moderate to the moderate. Just know that it was an impossible position for anybody to be in. And as a black woman, it was even more impossible. And I felt oftentimes bottom line. I didn't have your support. I felt especially when that ray-right situation went in. I even fact went to producers because I heard you on my mic earlier that day talking about the whole ray-right thing. I went to producer. I was like, Hey, can I weigh in? I just want to make sure that we have a woman's perspective. I remember

talking like her this and they were like, Oh, go ask him. And I was like, y'all, I think it's going to be bad because you can't have two men talking about domestic violence without having a woman who's sitting at the desk way in. Oftentimes, C even a oftentimes, there were conversations that I could have added. I don't know a female perspective, especially when we talking about domestic violence. And I didn't feel like I had your support. And maybe it was behind the scenes because you didn't need to share with me because you and I even do notice how we got into an argument on set during the commercial break. It's the only it's the only argument we have had. Yes, because at that point, I realized what was the point. I think you chose the path. I was sure that I was like, I'm not arguing with this man. This is his show and this is his show. I'm not arguing with I'm not going to win. But but low and behold, why we are still here, I'm just hoping and this is what I was hoping for this whole conversation that maybe you could do a little self reflection and be like, Okay, I see your point. I don't agree with her, but I see

yeah, but you're not asking me just to see a point. You're asking me to confirm facts that I know you don't have to confirm the fact. Well, let me explain. So for example, you said with the whole Ray Rice thing that I spoke on Mike and Mike before and then you asked the producers, I never spoke to Mike. I was out for a quick walk between meetings, passing the same row of shops I always do. The smell of fresh bread from the bakery delivery trucks unloading boxes when a travel magazine in a storefront window caught my eye on the cover was a photo of a boutique hotel in Copenhagen. I stayed at years ago, the one with the cozy lobby fireplace and those big windows overlooking the canal in that moment. My head wasn't on work anymore. I went from a sidewalk full of errands to picturing myself right back in that hotel, getting from that every day moment to that memory didn't feel complicated. When I was 14 years old, I was kidnapped and health captive for nine months. I survived and I've spent my life exploring how other people survive what should have destroyed them. I'm Elizabeth Smart and these are the survivor files. You just remember this low taunting voice next to my ear saying, shut up, don't say anything. Every week, I'm with survivors who live through the unthinkable. I knew if he woke up, without a doubt, he was going to hurt me. I started feeling that there was someone at the end of my bed and I just started screaming.

They are abducted, stalked, controlled and nearly silenced. But these aren't stories about what's taken from them. Their stories about what it takes to make it out alive. Listen to the survivor files with the Elizabeth Smart on the iHeartRadio app Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. You want to radio show that morning? What show were you on? Let me prove to you how I couldn't do it. Because if you recall, and we all, I don't recall. I don't recall. Remember I had to read an apology. Do I sound like somebody would read a damn apology? I remember I had to apologize. Hold on. I had to read an apology. John Skipper who was running the network at the time. What do you wait, wait, wait, wait, hold on. Let's go back. Wait, but this is before you guys suspend it. I'm talking about the morning. The morning of this is the next. This is that Monday morning. No, no, no, no. I'm not talking about my money.

I'm talking about, okay, so the day this ray-right situation happened, you were on, you were talking on a morning radio show. You did morning radio, you pop in and out. You know how they make you pop in on different shows. You did a different show that morning. And then you came on our air and you said what you said. And then people in Michelle B. And then people, they were on a radio show because the word provocation came up and then I guess there was some shit that went on behind the scenes. And the next thing I know on Monday, I guess you, I guess that's what you're referring to. That's what I'll refer to. Okay, but I am talking about, do you remember going on a radio show the morning before? I do not, but it's possible that you're right because I did before there was a problem. I knew that once it was a problem. The only place that I was allowed to speak was first tape. But you and I are talking about two different things. different things. I am talking about the day that you said provocation. Okay. That morning you went on a show and I was concerned about the language that you used. Okay. And that's when I went to producers and said, can I weigh in to say and they were like, I'm gonna get asked to tap out. And you said, you

proceeded to say exactly what you said on that morning show. Everyone lost their mind tweets go off go off. And then you came back the, I guess that next Monday and you had to apologize. And then I guess you were gone for a week. And then this is and then skip left for the week. And I was with two different hosts. And y'all came back like I said some shit like I was like, yo, what are we come back? No one would talk to me. I would turn. Do you remember? I will turn. I do. I welcome you did I did I text you or maybe I said so I was like, I had. I had. Listen, listen, listen, nobody's talking to you. I teapotopic. I was like, Steve and A and you'd like skip. And then I and I teapotopic and I'd be like, skip. And you'd like Steve and A. I was I was not even. I don't listen. I don't listen. I can't speak to that because I had no issue with you. Why would I have my issue was with the company suspended me. I didn't blame you for that. What happened? Like it felt like a cold winter. That's all. You know, you got you got a lot of the North

remembers you got a lot of feelings and I respect that. But the point is that but the point you allow for soul. You are. And here's a deal. They suspended me. And it wasn't that even I was suspended. Jamel. It's a Sunday night. It's in my book straight shooter. Remember I said, I can chance first takes. It's in the book Sunday night. John skip a cold. I know you didn't mean it that way. This is how I came out. We're taking a lot of heat over this. Need to take one for the team. You know, listen, you could have worded it better. That is your response. But that's it. Yes, it is. And he said, just to apologize. And we'll move over. I'm ready to apologize. Next thing I know. Ain't char says, no, we're going to write the apology. It is the only time in my life that has or ever will happen again. It was the most inauthentic thing I have ever done in my life. Because that is not me. I speak from the heart.

I look right in the camera. I see what the hell. I don't need to read no damn statement. But that's what they had me do. And then they said, we're going to have Carrie next to you. While you read this apology, which is crazy. And when you read the apology, this is what they said, this is what they said. And then they said, this is John skip a regime. Right. And then after I read the apology, Carrie charmed in it. You was like, I know you, I know your humanity. That's what I remember you saying. And you said some other things as well. And we move forward. And then we did the show. And neither one of you tell my people this very big deal. We did the show. I leave the show. I fly down the South Carolina for an event for San Mitchell, who's a former coach of the year for the Toronto Wraps not NBA. And while I'm there with him, I get a call from Skipper. And Skipper says, I apologize. I'm sorry. I know what I told you. But it's a lot. So we have to change our

mind and we have to suspend. Oh, see, I've been there. That's right. He changed his mind. He changed his mind. They suspended me. I said, fine, you got to do what you got to do. And I left and I got on a flight to St. Thomas, which is home from me. So I got on a flight to St. Thomas. Next thing I know, I heard a skip stormed off the air. He said, I'll be back when Stephen A gets back stormed off the air. He leaves. And I come back and I'm living because Skipper told me. He does one thing and did another thing. And so I'm sitting there like, I ain't got nothing to say. And that's where that was about. So in other words, when I'm trying to say it, none of that was about you from me. My issue was they told me I was good. And then it turned around and this is random. That's all it was for me. I didn't have any problem with you. And this is the thing that kills me. Carrie about you. And I got to tell you this, you

have your feelings. I have my please. Carrie, you've had a couple of meetings over the years. Who'd you come to? Oh, let's talk about that. No, no, I'm saying, who did you come to? You have said I've come to you. When have I asked, when have I come to you? Tell me when I came to you? When you asked me, when you asked me to set up the meeting for you and Dave Roberts at the four seasons of Dohenny? Friend, I would like to utterly refute that. Oh, you got to be crazy. I promise you. My Lord, Dave Roberts had been calling me. You I called you. Dave Roberts had been calling me. I was at NBC. I was doing you. I don't know anything about that. Let me say what I got to say. Go ahead, please. Because I did not call you and say, help me talk to Dave Roberts. You think you and you said that. I did not say you said help me. What did I ask you for? You wanted the job for sports center. You wanted to come back. That is not true, Steven A. I know you lying. That is not true. We are disagreeing right now. Then we'll disagree because let me

tell you I never called neither do I. But I've caught you in a few. No, you have to tell me right now and I'm gonna tell you right now. I never not want called you to say, can you get me back to sports center? When Molly, when Molly resigned a few months ago, did you not reach out? No, Molly. Molly. Where? Because I got the where? Oh, by the way, when? Where and when? I'm not saying no, no, no. Where are you on that? I'm not saying please tell me. You did not reach out to me and say we need to talk with Molly. Reson when Molly. We need to talk. I need to talk to you. I need to be back in the seat. You say that? This one. That one. Oh, no, let's see. I can't let you roll with that one. So, so, so, let me get this. Let me get this. I swear to God. You're not telling me. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. So I just showed up. I just showed up. You have a receipt. I just showed up your podcast. Stephen A. Do are you? Do you? Can I say something? Do you know who's texting you? Because did was I get text? I'm not. I'm not. I'm not.

I changed my number. I've changed my phone. Wait, hold on. Hold on. Time out. When did Molly resign? Yeah. When did Molly resign? When did Molly resign? That makes sense. Because I, October. Okay. So was that six months ago? Because I have our text and not a not a text says I'm trying to get to Molly. In fact, let me tell you our last text. Just so we're clear. We have been calling you and we've been texting you and it's going to bring. Yeah. No idea. No, because you said that. That's why I'm glad you said you changed your number six months ago. I know you lying. Okay. I don't want to be called the last text. The last text September 16, 2025 at 139. So it's scary. I would like to shout off the record. Call me. I was probably trying to be get no reply. By the way, I text you again July 9th. Green. I text you again today just to make sure green. And so I did you change your number? So that's why you changed your number. But there is no last December. Last December. Okay, but September no reply. No reply. And when you said how come you didn't call me every time I did call you

and you would reply via text, who's this? Every time I would touch you, you'd be like, who's this? And I'd be like, oh, it's scary. It's me. I'm just calling to wish you well. Because you probably changed your number. No, Steven A. Okay. But the point is, okay, I got a good time. Yeah, that's fine. That's fine. Yes. The point is the matter is no way. On my day, it was so bad. No way. Then it was somebody who pretended to be her. It was not her. And it wasn't me. My dog. Why would I call that without a view? Why would I want to go sit in the chair and be abused? I'm out. I wasn't aware of abuse when it came for me. That's why we're having this conversation. The fact that the matter is, Carrie, you departed in 2015. I was never aware you had any issue with me until last year. Because that was my support of you, black man. No, no, no. If you didn't tell me and I didn't know, why would I assume there's a problem? Steven A. You just finished acknowledging why I said to you, let's just take a moment to have some self reflection and some awareness and read the room.

Everybody may not want to say what they feel because they want to support you. And they're hoping that you can read the room and feel the energy and understand the spirit. And even as I sit here and talk to you, I didn't even manage you. I thought that I would be wanting to fight you out. I thought that I would want to be like, we go on toe to toe. Me and boxer, you know what I feel for you? Like there is a mixture of love, laughter, and this. Excuse me. I told you, I told you, I told you, I should have bet you. I was like, she going, yep, I told you, that can be Carrie. I told you, I told you, I told you, that was what we know. I told you that was going to happen. This lovely black man is a threat. That's how I feel like this man is a trip. Like this man is a trip. But I think that is consistent. That is consistent. You've always called me a trip. You always call me a trip. Always. Yeah. And that much is absolutely true.

And I want to go back to the ray, right, moment. Yes, please do. When I said I see your humanity, humanity, I do. But it would have been nice for you to turn to me and say, thank you for that. It would have been nice for you to acknowledge. That's fair. It would have been nice for you to acknowledge that. I said nothing, but I'm standing here in the gap. Apologize in with you. Well, I mean, I, first of all, I had no issue with you. That's not the point. Let me explain. I had no issue. Be nice. I'm nice. You could have called me. Combin. The point that I'm trying to make to you is that I had no issue with you. And my you sitting there, I knew it was something they compelled you to do. I had an issue with them reneging on what Skipper had told me. I understand. And you have to remember, this is something, listen, good, bad or indifferent. A mother, four, the sisters, 15 nieces and nephews, 10 of whom are nieces, two daughters.

You know, I have never had a domestic issue with a woman in my life. And I have been in this business for 33 years. At the time, it's 22, 23 years. I have never so much has been warned, let alone, reprimanded. And this man makes this decision to besmirch my name. And to this far as I was concerned, jeopardize my career, the live witness that I was feeling. What's the answer? Skipper. That's my Skipper. Yeah. How live it I was at that moment in time. Okay. I could, I saw nothing but red. I was furious. I didn't look at you. I didn't look at Skip. I didn't look at Jamie. I didn't look at anybody. I was looking at the fact that this man told me that we were good. And then the next thing you know, you're turning around and suspending me. So you're maybe you're probably right. I get where you're coming from when you're saying you're sitting next to me.

And that puts you in an uncomfortable spot. They're putting me in a horrible spot. I can appreciate that. But what I'm saying to you is that I was in an uncomfortable spot. And I didn't recall Kerry getting suspended. Can I say something? Suspended. Can I say something? Sure. You're asking for my understanding right now. You're asking for me to give it. Sure, give it context. Yeah. Sure. The same context and understanding you want. That's what I'm asking for. Okay. And you don't give it. Okay. You feel that way? Even what I just said, I said, I understand what you're coming from. No, but you talked about your feelings and why you were okay with doing what you were doing. I mean, because I understand where you're what you say that it was an uncomfortable position for you to be and because of the way that I was. Okay. So I'm sorry. That's how I was acting. That was the reason why I received it was like, look at what they were doing to me. Woe is me. And so that's why I was behaving that way. Because I got suspended. Yes. Even eight. I get it. They shouldn't have. I look, I understand. They shouldn't have lied to you. They shouldn't have played that. I don't think they should have suspended. I none of my business. I look, I'm not litigating that because we'll be here all day.

They suspended. The valid, not even the validation. The understanding that you are asking for is and the in the context, the context in which you were sharing this story. You're not giving that to us as Black women. I think the most disappointing part of this conversation is that you evidently was feeling away for 10 years before I ever knew. I did not know. We had one argument you know, on the set in 10 years. That is it. Outside of that, Kerry and I, to my knowledge, never had an issue. Ever. And so for me, it's like you have the kind of communication skills that kind of buy, the kind of sincerity about you when you open your mouth.

That I'm incredibly alone. And it's the biggest reason why I will look internally. Because for you to sit up there and feel like you couldn't speak to me, I can't imagine you feeling like you can't speak to anybody. So the fact that you felt that way, I really got to look inside and be like, yeah, okay, that's where she's coming from. But I love you. I know who you are. We've always been cool and that ain't going to change. You understand? I'm glad we had this conversation. I'm glad I came here because I came here ready. But at the end of the day, you know, the minute I'm with you off of 10 minutes, I'm like, shit, cool. It's okay. It's okay. It's okay. It's okay. They cool the shit. It's all right. And I get that. And I understand that I'm probably not going to agree with you just as much as I normally don't agree with you. Which is fine. But I appreciate your sentence and I want you to know. There is nothing that you can look me in the face, one in the man, as my sister, and talk to me

about. And I'm not going to listen. I may not agree with you, but I will listen. And if I agree with you, I will own it and I will move forward. I worked with you. We were colleagues. We got along very well. We were friends. There's no reason why I would not listen to you. And I want you to know that. I believe so. I apologize for ever making you feel like you couldn't talk to me because I can't believe that you felt like you could. I did not know. And I'm she in it. And it shouldn't be super surprising given the power. I'm talking about she and I. Yeah, I'm talking about even when she left the show. Remember she left in 2015. Correct. And so I mean, we talk. I'm like, there's plenty of times I ran across Kerry. I mean, Josh, my nephew's walking around with a video, a, a, a, Kerry giving me a huge hug and telling him to take pictures of us. Because I feel that way. That's what I'm saying. I never knew. Yeah. I never knew there was any kind of feelings. Because you have to realize, even I was like, what's the point? And then we get into this very incredible divisive season in our lives for Black people. And we're fighting. As I said to you before, I feel like we're fighting for our lives.

And I couldn't, I couldn't stay quiet. And I was very triggered. About our relationship and how I felt when I sat on that desk. I didn't want to derail your success and or what you were entitled to. Nor did I feel like you would receive it. But what you just said to me means a lot. It made me like low key emotional. Almost dropped a thug tear. But I kept it to myself. I dropped almost a thug tear. You did a deserve over a tear. And there are people who go and roll that as well. I hate kind of case there. But I'm not going lie to you. There are a lot of things that hurt me. But it's no, I'm not going to live in that past. That's for me to, that's for me. For me. I just want to skip. Listen, just the experience. We'll just, we'll just put it on the experience. It was a tough one. It was a tough one for you to grow. But it made me better at the end of the day. It made me better in the workspace. It made me a better worker. It made me work harder. It taught me a lot of things. So I appreciate you coming on here and listening to us. Well, I got to say something about Jamel. Oh, yeah.

And then I was going to say say something nice about my boo because she's sitting over here with this new outfit on for you. She got her hair done. You know what? This one. Jamel, Jamel Hill. I have been upset at you for years. We know. No, you don't know. I've been upset at you for one reason and one reason only. That you're gone. We needed you. We needed you at the SPN. We needed you on camera in this business. It's not because we have to agree with you. It's because you have something to say. And it's filled with substance. And it doesn't matter what anybody else feels. And even as we sit here tonight and have this conversation, understand something. I'm not sitting in judgment of any decisions that you may make in terms of what you feel about one issue or another or another.

The only thing that disappointed me is when you said, I'm not built this way. I can't take this. Because you know your history. And you know enough about history to know. There's a whole bunch of people that came before you that had to take a whole lot of shit to help us get to where we are. And when I think about you, you're a journalist, you're a writer, you have integrity, you are smart as a whip, you're principled, and you know how to bring it when it's time to bring it. And there is so much that you could do. You're still doing it. But there was so much that you could do. And when you think about the world while you leave it and the reach that we have, I'm thinking along the ways. I'm not telling you that you didn't go through what you what you're going through. We all went through something. Hell, I got five.

We understand this. You understand? But what I'm saying to you is that there's a great game. And one of the biggest, if the word regret is applicable, one of the biggest regrets that I have is that I didn't make it a priority to be closer enough to make sure that I was in your ear more, to remind you, yo, there's bigger fights to have. There's bigger fish to fry. We're going to lose a couple of fights along the way. We're going to do it. The president is a pretty big fight. But, all right. I got you. I understand. But what I'm saying is I'm talking about, I'm talking about your longevity. I'm talking about your reach. That stuff matters because if you go back and you look, you tell me when I have not, when I have failed to praise your career. Oh, no, I would never say, I know what you know, we've never said this. And I know what you've meant to this industry. So for me, it's like, listen,

people don't disagree with me. And my, I'm an independent, the lean's left. That's who I am. I only lean right when it comes to my money. And I ain't apologize for that shit to nobody. But that's about it. I lean left with practically everything else. Having said that, I'm going to be me and I'm going to do what I do. And the heat that comes with it, if it's warranted, I'm going to take it. And if it's not, I'm going to speak out against it. But I'm not going to personalize it when people make it clear what it's about as opposed to trying to extend to beyond those parameters and act like it's something more than what the real issue is. I believe I issue other than your experiences on first take, which I personally believe was far more positive than negative in my opinion because of the high, the profile that they gave you and how the world came to know about your champion. But I understand that I respect where you're coming from. And I think skip did a lot for you. Did a lot for me. And I keep going. Nobody's are you in that at all.

But in the end, what it comes down to is this. When I listen to y'all speak in the end, it comes down to politics. And you wish that I thought differently. You wish I associated differently. You wish I had different points of view, different opinions from time to time. And what I would encourage people is to listen to the body of my work because you'll see I'm not as far off from everybody as people think. I'm just talking about doing what it takes to win. That's where I'm coming from. And that's where I'm at. I understand that that's not going to always be agreed upon. I understand that I sisters out here are really, really feeling way my sisters could firt this. My sisters expressed this. My sisters losing their mind over Trump. I got it. I talk with them every day. I get all of it. I understand it. But I also know that my sisters love me daily. And nobody would hold me more accountable than them. And when I look at Charles, there's these black women out here that's ready to hold me accountable. I'm used to it.

I got it. And I listen more than people realize. But what I don't listen to is personal attacks. I don't listen to somebody that uses an issue as an excuse to denigrate me. I believe the NAPJ denigrated me by accusing me of disparagement. If they said I disappointed, no problem. If they pointed out the issues that I've taken, no problem. But when you say I disparage somebody, now you're getting into a different lane because you're applying intent in my opinion. And I didn't appreciate that. Having said all of that, in the end, I loved the fact that I came here to have this conversation. I heard y'all loud and clear. And I'm going to listen. I'm going to think about everything that y'all said. And no matter what opinions I get, it will be with this conversation in mind. I will never forget this conversation that I sat here and have with y'all. But damn, that last two hours. Oh, there's almost three hours. Three. That's three.

It's three. It will never happen. I will break up the pie. It's like, there's going to be a 22 part. This will be a three part episode. We'll see you in the average. I appreciate you saying that about me. Yeah, that's very kind of you to say. Do you have a heart? Somewhere. But she does. And no, I do. But like, I think it is just, in the special, I appreciate you saying, like, hey, we needed your voice. And I get that. It wasn't a matter, but just so we're clear, it wasn't a matter of me quitting on ESPN. I could have easily stayed on. I mean, I was one year to four years. You pointed out. I was like, I'm going to stay on. But I think fundamentally, our relationship has shifted to where the possibility of me coming out on the other side was not going to happen, especially not with that leadership that was in place. And as you know, pretty much after I was suspended, John Skipper was out. And maybe if Skipper was there, maybe it might have been a little different. Maybe. Or once that happened, I knew.

No. We would stay here and talk about this all day. We would. We would respond. Yes, and that's just the way I was envisioning that at the time. And then there's something about indignity of I got really tired of coming into work and having to fight to be who I was. And they were never going to let up on that no matter what. Because I pissed off the one person. You can't piss off. And that's the president. So you just said. And so you just said you're not changing yourself. So you know how I feel changed? You guys are one of the change. And I get it. So like we actually have a lot more commonality in that regard. Neither one of us, we will listen. We will adjust which I will and have. But we will not change the core of who we are. And so I hope if anything else you take from this conversation, as I mentioned a moment ago, don't change your fastball. Locate it better. Locate it better. I'm a genius. Locate it better. Sometimes sometimes I will. Sometimes I will.

I'm okay. And sometimes I'm going to somebody. And by the way, I'll be like, no, and by the way, that's okay. Stephen A Smith is a stray shooter. And you can catch how you do it. You can catch him everywhere. He's everywhere. He's literally everywhere. Yes. Everywhere. Series exam. POTUS radio. There you go. List all the jobs. Will you leave a check for somebody else? I just want to. Yeah. Yeah. Why don't you take on the check? I don't. What? Do you know what I got to work to the whole town? Because you need not believe it. What I've been trying to plot is for others to get checks. Okay. All right. Well, good. Good. Well, again, Congratulations on what you're doing with the HBCU now. Good for you. HBCU best ball. Yes. Good for you. Congratulations. I'm trying all of that stuff, but I'm I'm I'm plotting some stuff because ultimately the objective why you see me talking to people from both sides of the aisle is because I want to create a show where that happens that's going to get picked up by the network. Oh, so we can have.

I'm just talking about black folks. Oh, okay. I'm sorry. Everybody have high blood pressure. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. But you know what? Sometimes that's what it takes. You know, now corn is all levels up. Sometimes that's what it takes. I got a know sometimes that what it takes. Stap me with me. Do I know what it takes? Sometimes it what it takes. It ain't just black folks, but I'm just saying we we going we going to sit up there. We need more of our voices out there and not just on YouTube. Also, congratulations on your success of your two daughters who are doing something. Yes. We're very happy for this. Yes. Pay that college tuition. Go on to pay that college tuition. They'll keep they'll keep your hair gray. Sure. And they go and they go and they also going to keep you in line. So we ain't worried about it. We do what we do. They next they next they got it. It hurts. I know they cost a lot. They want to go in value. Like we do on our job. You do your job. Yeah, that's right. That's right. That's right. Right. That's right. Young black woman. That's right. That's right. We did our job. You do your job. You do that. You do that. That's what we're saying. We're saying the same thing. And we say the same thing. It ain't about thank you. It's about we entitled. Yeah, right. Come on. They don't go with that.

You don't just go with that. You don't just go with that. God does go with that. You raised them. You raised them. What's the problem now? Why would they tell you? If they tell you how come we got to tell you if they tell you, do we tell you what they tell you in a different space? It hurts. All right. It hurts in a while. Well, thank you, Steven. You've been very gracious with your time. You appreciate you. All right. I'm broke. All right. We are done. We are done. We are done. She got to go to work. I do. We did it. We did it.
