Afternoon Drive on The Fan — Hour 1: Is the Browns element of surprise an advantage for Week 1? + Quick Hits. Machine-transcribed; use the interactive transcript above to jump the player to any line.
It's Thursday on afternoon drive. I mean, yeah, I'm not worried about that. You know, we focus on now. It's about what we got, what we can do now. Not about what we were about in the future. In the past, you know, we're not worried about 24. We're not worried about last year. We're not playing. We're not worried about the preseason. Right now, we gotta focus on just some of it. Sashon acting or was Sashon at the Browns done such a good job of making sure that he's windshield focused. He's only looking at what's in front of him, that he's erased. He's erased the comments that he made, and then he's erased actual game. Where he looked about as bad as I've ever seen Dishon Watson play, and I've seen him play a lot of really bad football. There's no football you can play until Sunday that can change the narrative or change how you feel or how you felt. And so until then, yes, you should just go ahead and gaslight yourself. I have no problem with Dishon coming out and being like, oh, what buffalo game? I am vehemently opposed at dogs having human first names. Okay, I gotta imagine the people who just solely named their dogs, human names. He couldn't think of anything else. The least fun planet. Like you could take him to any of those different places that they have,
and they would be like, you guys got a dog museum around here? Anybody got any cool pennies? That's what they sound like. It's the afternoon drive with Nick Wilson and Jonathan Peterland on Cleveland's Sports Radio, 92-3 The Fan. The show is back, Nick Wilson, Jonathan Peterland. We are with you for the next five hours and football is king. And we go from the first step of football being back, which is saying, thank God, football is back to the second stage, which is complaining the football wasn't good enough. But that open courtesy of Michael Markovic and the board. Yes. I'm Michael Goodesia, the Ginger Saint of Cleveland Sports, holding things down on the board today. He'll be in with us late in the show for a new little locket in bit we're doing. Probably only do it once. It might not work. It could be a real bleep show, but we'll find out about six o'clock tonight. Jake Murn, man in the 92-3 The Fan YouTube channel and producing.
I see you, Donald. I see you, Chaser. Jim Eagle, Mickey Fitz, Kid Cowboy. I'm seeing the names there. Jim Eagle. Oh, Jim Eagle. Yeah, yeah. Ion's brother. He's an accountant. Is that right? Noah's uncle's. I always call him. Yeah, also has a rug. Yeah. Well, that was unnecessary. I represent truth. Noah's hair. Is fake. Is anything I've ever seen? I'm sorry. You can't say that and then say Nick Wright's hair is real, which you've said multiple times. Right hair is real. It's not real. I mean, it's not real. It's real. It's real. It's real. By the way, it's just a good rug. It's just a good rug. That's all that is. I'm pretty sure Noah Ego's hair has an elevator on it. And it takes like three fours. That's how high it's. The grand bensinger. He's basically Marge Simpson at this point. And he'd be like, oh, no, this is normal. Yeah, of course it's normal. You're a grand bensinger. Your hair goes seven feet high. That's natural. But you go ahead and follow 92 through the fans YouTube channel. Follow us all five hours long. Ring that bell, except you corn, Lido. Fuck it corn, Lido. And like our videos, we desperately like to be liked around these parts and merit a cane
on the 2020s there. You're welcome for bailing you out with the old MacDonald reference there from the old MacDonald had a farm EI EI O and on this farm, he had a hip. Yeah. And he got some X-rays and an off site. Why are people so upset that they went off site for these X-rays? I don't know why people were so living about it. I just, I think the whole thing, I think the whole thing where we went from, thank God footballs back to God this game is boring. Well, it's to the cheese we have to watch Drew Boc play football. Okay, in fairness, I'm going to play pretty good. But everyone said, take the under, everyone said, this is going to be a low scoring affair. And oh, by the way, it's a repeat of the worst super bowl we've had on the last five years. Just a board. I mean, again, congrats to Seattle. They won the darn thing. I'd love to win a boring Super Bowl. Hell, I'd take a boring playoff game at this point. I'll take any win that I can get in the post season. But like the idea we couldn't even wait one day to be like, oh, this sucks. Turn it off.
Well, the game did get good. It just took until like four quarters. Yeah, just took a while. A while. And yeah, when you look up and you're like, I waited months on end for Drew Locke, that's this heartening. There's no other way to describe that. He's a disheartening practice. I'm buying into the Drew Locke rehab tour. When he's the browns, then he actually played pretty decent. When he's the browns veteran next year, as we get ready to start, well, you know, I get half a season of whatever quarterback you'd rather than the first round get ready for Locke City, baby. We'll chase Daniels. You Missouri. I'm Missouri crime and break down his game. Our boss. No, no, no, no, the Missouri quarterback. Oh, oh, Diana. Diana. I haven't seen you in a while, Diana. Diana, are you selling your tell-all? Diana, where are you back? Where are you been? Where are you been hiding? Also, this is going to be the most random first part of the opening show ever. People who were a guest at the idea, the Diana Rossini has rebuffed every offer from TV cruise to tell her story and that she's using her story, her side of the Vray Bowl affair
or alleged affair to help sweeten the pot for her next job. Apparently, don't realize Diana Rossini might be the smartest person on the planet. That's a brilliant move by Diana Rossini. She knows how the game works. Is she going to go on a good morning America and give it to them for free? And how the hell? No, thank you. How the hell does she continue to get more scorn from people trying to recover a career? When Mike Vray Bowl lets Chex notes, lost nothing and tried to hold a puppy hostage to get people to like him at the beginning of training. What's tough is that now when Aaron Rogers is one of your biggest defenders in life, you might have to reevaluate who the people are that are defending you. Diana. Diana, I also slept with Mike Vray Bowl. Diana. That's a different story. Yeah. That's a breakdown I don't need. That's a show on like Fubo. Come on now. Now they're trying to break into that sports content. Look coach on quarterback. I'm just saying. I'll write that. I'll write that erotic novel if you want me to. I don't want you to. I'm just saying if you want me to, if people were asking for it, nobody's asking for that. And there was like a million to two million dollars to sell that.
Nobody's asking for that. No, I'll pitch it. No. I'll pitch it like a, oh a sunshine and remember the Titans. I'll hit that pitch every time. I did laugh a lot when Mike Tom, when just kept calling JSN, JNS. Yeah. It was, is he going to do this all night? Does he, is this an inside game for himself? I went, how long are you to do this bit for? The best part of Mike Tomlin's debut, regular season debut was him like, last time I saw it to a tongue of I low, he was getting benched. Oh, he was nothing to the Steelers. I was like, he just, he just wanted to rain down on the idea that there's no chance to was going to be able to beep at Spurg, but it's nothing Mike McCarthy did. It's just that he stinks. I think I'm officially flip flopping Mike Tomlin is awesome at this and I want him on everything. There's another thing weird divide on was Tomlin good last night was Tomlin bad last night. People couldn't make up their minds there either. That's good. That's where we like him. Your boy C.D. Carrington was all about the idea that Tomlin just flat out sucked. I mean, outside of getting the names wrong, I thought at least he was a friend of breath of fresh air and he's, he's unafraid to say things. Mike Tomlin does not care.
We watch Jason Garrett be in that spot for years on end. You're telling me that wasn't more interesting than Jason Garrett. Also, we saw both of them dance on TikTok and spoiler alert here. Jason Garrett got, he got no flavor. He's got not Maria Taylor had some sway there. Mike Tomlin had some sway. Whatever other quarterback was on that panel had some sway. Jason Garrett, no flavor. I interviewed with for you because for you. I was his co-worker now and he was asking him like, did you, did you feel like Tomlin's like, did you actually have fun with that stuff? Is he or is he just kind of like, hey, Mike, we'd love to have you come over here and do this TikTok. If you got a couple of seconds, apparently he was loving it. Yeah. He was really good at dancing. He was really good at dancing. He could actually had a fun time with all this, which is a little scary by the way. If you're thinking about the prospect of Mike Tomlin becoming an NFL head coach again, because this might be the bill-cower thing. Once you get behind that desk, you can, you can talk about wanting to go ahead and be a coach all day. Once you get behind that desk, it becomes real comfortable. Making the same money to hang out on TV for 25 years instead.
You get the same money to hang out and talk football once or twice a week and then just go home and like enjoy your family. As like the grind that is NFL head coaching, I get it. Well, I get his family, how this season ended last year with his family. I don't know that anyone's doing a lot of his joint with his family. But he's definitely enjoying something. You brought up a quarterback head coach sex scene that you want to write, but like I'm the problem in this scenario. I'm trying to get you and me to TV startup. That's what I'm now. You and I are the show runners. We're like to ban you off and the other guy. Yeah, right about the Tomlin family drama. I'm sure that that a place is that would go ahead. Mike Tomlin scares me. I got beat my S seven away from Sunday. But obviously we got to get going about the Browns Jack wires and continue to hear how mad Browns fans are about this game. The lack of buzz in the, in like the conversations I'm having about this. Again, I'm being accused of being the old time homer for saying the Browns could win. I mean, I'm not saying I wouldn't play it myself if they put in your shoes, okay?
But I am saying I as an observer of how you've been moving for the past couple months. I don't like this take in particular. I do have a back injury right now. So that's infecting how I'm moving only because you can't be the guy that says I'm going to call you when the Browns achieve X, Y and Z and also be the guy like it's only eight nine. Well, no, no, it's not a big, it's not a big record. I'm not saying 13 and four. I'm not saying 14 and three. I'm just saying eight nine. You can't live in both worlds in my mind where you get to call, you have a list of people you want to call up and what order you want to call them up like steam. Like steam. Yeah, yeah, the Browns actually achieve what you say they're going to achieve. I just don't think you can have it both ways. I think I can. I think I can. And I think I will. Yeah. I'll play because again, I'm the boldest man in Cleveland sports media.
So I don't think it's that bold. All things considered when more people, then not are, are probably not actually came on and said eight wins as well. She said eight wins was possible. She didn't say it was likely. She said eight nine. She said eight nine was her prediction. I don't remember that. I think. Do you see the ESPN Browns reporter said seven wins? And mark that in yesterday. Well, like it's like it's becoming a very modest take at who started it. This guy, Jeremy Fowler's on the big blog, right? go through like, you know, deep sleepers and MVP candidates and Jeremy Fowler's out here saying, Hey, I'm not saying they're a playoff team, but look out the Browns could surprise some people. Why? Because Nick Wilson has inspired people to look past this quarterback room and put them on the table. Actually, put them on the table. It's not where I put it on the table. And the table that also say, I can't say eight and nine and people are getting used for it because he know what to put them on the table. Put them on the table. Put them on the table. Is putting it on the table?
No, nine is not putting it on the table. No, sir, what are you taking here? No, sir. No one was putting them on the table till Nicky Devs was putting them on the table. It is the problem. You put them on the table. You're putting them on the table. And then in the same look at the people falling. People are seeing the logic. The morning show. They're like, oh, guys, I just, I mean, it's eight nine. Not those five worst jellyfishes. It's eight nine, not 14. They've realted. They've, they've, they've heard how that sounds. Busted like a terrible and buffalo was the morning show today when I called them up at 645. Right through it. I mean, just right through it. I thought it was going to be a little pushback. Now they waited. They waited no one a half to give the pushback. Yeah. They had a really digest and sit on those terms and they said I'm going to go ahead and have something to say there. I mean, but you see, you see what I'm getting at here, right? It can't be the like, I'm out of this big bowl prediction guy and then turn around and be like, oh, eight nine is not 13 and four. Why are people losing their mouth? No, the point is the buy wise people going crazy with us. People are acting like I'm saying Super Bowl Super Brown's 15 wins. Well, you're, you're keeping a list together of people you want to call up and say, how
right you were at the end of this. Yeah. Like you're giving, you're giving the impression of 13 and 4 and 14 and 3. Because they're all saying the same thing at the end of this. And it all comes back to one quarter back to Sean Watson more than anyone else. And it all comes back to a bunch of generic stuff that has, I don't want to say has nothing to do with this team, but it's, it's like, I understand that they're like last year. When I went into last year thinking that's a five win team, right? That this team could compete for the number one pick. The reason why I thought that is, all right, the defense is going to be great, but there's nothing on offense to really give you hope. Like if the offensive line was good, er, sorry, if what was the right tackle, Jack Conklin, if Jack Conklin can stay healthy, which we said for five years, the Browns actually have a plan this year on offense. It's not just, well, we'll bring back the old offensive line and we'll see if Jerry Judy can replicate what he did. Well, hey, maybe David and Joe, who doesn't look like a left tackle these days. By the way, tight and three in Los Angeles. But no, like they actually have formulated an offensive plan and a defensive plan.
They've drafted very well on that side of the ball as well. The only thing they didn't account for is quarterback. But that's where it's bold. That's where it's born with a quarterback that I think nothing of on the field and off the field. I would quarterback. I think nothing of I'm saying eight wins. I'm saying in the NFL, you can win in spite of your quarterback and go be a competitive team. I'm just saying if you're going to take it, you're going to take it wins. If you're going to take it, I'm taking it and then you're going to try to act like you're in trouble. I'm not putting it on the table. You're going to act like it's bold. You're putting them on the table and all these people you want to call up after it happens. And don't go to the morning show and say, I'm not saying 13 and four. I, you guys are the ones that are being crazy about it. I'm not saying 13 and four. I'm just saying a modest date and nine. I am on a mission to civilize. I mean, I just think that's, I've got people that are on my side. As you see, we're coming from here. Does that make sense when I'm saying that? I, if you want to go through, I salute you. Jeremy Fowler, you're a gentleman in a scholarship. Don't be scared of that. I get in that mic unless you want to go to downtown, downtown like it's rainbow and
chased Daniel. Don't be scared. Don't be scared. Don't be a scary cat now. Can you be a scary cat? Does that make sense? How do you, how do you, you know, chest puffed out and would be like eight and nine is this grand thing? You've got to turn around. When we get to week 17 in the Browns finish eight nine, I agree with JP. Nick can't just be like, oh, it's just an eight nine season. Watch. I agree. Watch me. Nick can't do the worst thing any of you can say is Nick can't do because Nick will do just a spite. Two and six, four seven four double, nine two. At Nick Wilson says at J Peter Lennon on social media, social media reactions on X powered by Shyman Jouler's Cleveland's premiere jewelry store. EMI putting them on the table for eight and nine. I'm just going to say there's a wave of people starting to catch that fever. They got a fever and the only cure is an eight win. Brum season. I'm pretty sure that's how that went. That's the bed. Pretty sure that's the black paraphrasing. White kits coming up at 240 Lindsey wrote Sumer sports at 320.
She's varying into the data and the analytics and the numbers and the what nots. We'll see if she agrees with the old eight and nine prediction there and P few tech college football news coming up at four 20. We'll get his thoughts on Ohio State Texas a loaded weekend in college football and then we got lock it in. Mark Hodges going to help us out here. We're going to see if JP and I can actually agree on any of the games. A better version of the schedule game. Many people are saying the other ones played out. This one is very creative 216 474 0092. But if I put them on the table at eight and nine and who's coming with me. Come on. Let's get on the brand wagon. Not you JP. You sit your ass over there and crusty dusty musty six win town. You ask you ask crusty dusty. What was that? Musty musty. Yeah. Is that the tone? That's where you're at. Six win town. Yeah. At five winville. Hey, at least if they've six wins happens for wins, Berg. I'll be able to sit back at the end of the end of the end be like, yeah, I did not did
not tell anybody that it was going to be an awesome season. But also then saying just six wins. And when when I do have my moment in the sun, you were going to be absolved because you're you're closer to me than you want to believe. But now you're also you've made the list. You've made the list and I'll be talking to you about about December 15th. We're going to have a little conversation here on air. Yeah. Let's save this. 11 win teams. The in-weapon win productions. Those you get to make West's eight and nine. Hey, maybe not so. When everyone's saying they're five and a half, nobody's talking about the Browns Jacks game. But more on this. And Liam Cohen says his teams at a significant disadvantage. You're going to hear this in five minutes on 92 through the fan. We're going to have a couple of minutes. Two kids coming up in about 20 minutes time. Nick and JP back with you. We do have Lindsey Roach coming up at three 20 of Sumer sports. Now a quick couple notes here. One, I checked in very quickly on the 92 through the fan at YouTube chat.
They're discussing how Dushan Watson can beat the speeding ticket. Suggest that the calibration on the the the radar was off. Yeah. Another one. I can't remember the other one. But arguing about pursuit angles, which I think the bigger pursuit angles are going to be a problem for Dushan or probably on Sunday against Jacksonville. Guys, it's like a couple hundred dollar ticket. Dushan could afford it. Yeah, we just want to admit the guilt now, you know, now at all on this though. I mean, is he could be a good bet on Dushan? Stay with me for a second. Is Dushan betting on the idea that the judge will be more lenient after watching him play football now most would say most. No, no, no, most would say that's a bad bet because the judge will be pissed that Dushan Watson continues to suck. But Dushan's got so much other belief in his skills and abilities through betting by the time he sees that judge. The judge goes, oh, Dushan, yeah, you have the Browns at six and oh, of course I can let this two hundred dollar ticket go. So I think the bench trials expected to be on September 23rd.
Oh, we're coming up. So that's two games. We're coming up then. That's enough time for him. You be rating of like 81 just surprises the hell out of everyone. And you can't you be rating of like 81 is none great. I think I think that I like this. I like the spin out of you. It's belief in himself also Emily suggesting as your soul and guy north soul and guy come on now. And I'm a wandsworth guy. I need to mention wandsworth and soul and play tonight down the night. Yeah, yeah, because obviously what tomorrow is not a home game for solenoid. It is not. Yeah. And I was. Like maybe the biggest marching ban I've ever seen from Northeast Ohio. It's at least 300 people deep. They are awesome. They have a lot of fun. I clearly I have a bias towards the watch with marching band cause I'm like kiddo. If this is like the football game last year, well, the football game should be over relatively clean quickly. We should have that rolling clock hitting it about six minutes to go in the second quarter. Like I think it was last year. But I think the marching bands are going to make this a fun one. That's my official stance on this one.
Is that right? to everybody planned a night and again, stay safe all day. I know about Wadsworth footballs, they seem to always win. I know. I want to know what someone football right now is not great. Yeah. And I went to Woodridge where academic school, so in high school. You know what, they're in it for the education side of things. Football's really a frivolous outcome, you know what I mean? Immaterial. I mean, many people call it the IV of the public high school. Many people have said it. I know. I know. It's your focus. That's all I want to know. Yeah. Exactly. We just, we push out elites. Honestly, they could be much better at football. They don't want to. That is part of it. Yeah. It's, again, it's this is the, this is the IV aspect of this all. It's like if we put too much attention towards football, what are we really doing? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. What's going to happen to the academics? Dumb jocks? Yeah. Come on. Yeah. We're going to lose in art. I know what? I know what? As a person that's sending, going to send both of his kids to soul in high school. That's the whole world dad right there.
I mean, you know, I spend that money. I'd run education in Akron. What you got for us? Hello. Hello. Why are you surprised? I'm very surprised. I didn't know that it's a long day. No, just John Watson, instead of his mini-goat, maybe it's the core of a lot of the subtle financially out of court. He's used to that. That's what he's good at though. That's all guys. He's never going to win. No, thank you. Yeah. I don't get the joke. Can you explain to me, JP? We made the joke yesterday. What part of you didn't know? yesterday yesterday. What about today? He didn't ask for clarification yesterday. I do like that you get, did you get dumber in 24 hours? What happened? Yeah, that actually understood the joke. And now did you get, did you hit your head yesterday? Good. Good. Because if we have like a 51states thing, right, I'd explain, I'd explain to Sean Watson every day to you. Listen, they just a recurring bit right, I'd explain everything in the to Sean Watson trial. And that's, that's my lifetime penance. Then I'll, I'll sign up for that. They do call me 10 second Tom, but not for that. Okay. Now Liam Cohen, the Jacksonville head coach, he talked about an area that he think maybe the Browns have an advantage.
You know, you're trying to do what you do best, right? Just because like I have no idea what Rudy's going to play defensively, like I really don't have a clue. So, you know, you have an idea of some of the things that maybe they've, they've done before in the past, you go back and look, but you know, they, they have a little bit of, I don't want to say an upper hand, but they have our tape from last season. I don't have his tape from last season of his defense, right? I've got an idea. We've got some thoughts. We've got some cut ups and all that, but so in game one, specifically, I think you would just have to really be ready to adjust. You're always a little bit, I don't want to say it at disadvantage, because we're all very even in terms of going into week one. Like we don't, we could have wrinkles, obviously, that they're not aware of that we didn't put on tape last year, but we're kind of going in a little bit more blind than maybe they are. Do you notice that he speaks in quotation marks? I know I did not think that. Rudy's defense. I thought he might be a little drunk at one point, but I didn't think quotation marks. I think that might be a qualification, qualification to be a good head coach
in the NFL. You just sound like a little bit drunk like that all time by the slight buzz, like four or five beers. If you've coached with Shanahan and McVeigh, I just assumed you're naturally drunk, because all those guys do sound a little bit tipsy. Yeah. Well, and some of them live very, very tipsy for a long time. Now, I, he didn't want to say that the Jags should disadvantage. I do think for this game, I think part of the advantage from the Browns is there so much new. I don't know that last four quarters, but I, I do think that's kind of being undersold here that it's a new defensive coordinator. The Browns have Jared verse instead of Miles Garrett, a brand new offensive line. You don't really know what Todd Munkin's going to try and do week one. I think the fact that he's bringing it up means that it obviously has gotten to him and it obviously matters. And from a game planning aspect, it just makes a hundred percent sense, Nick, that Liam Cohn would look at this and be like, wait, I don't know what to do. Is Munkin going to be the OC he was with Baltimore? Because I can argue that you take three years of his tape on that and you might as well throw it out the window,
because there's no quarterback close to Lamar Jackson. And there's especially no quarterback close to Lamar Jackson on this Browns team. And then Routenberg is just this complete mystery box of a defensive coordinator like I, I, you might just throw your hands up in the air. Yeah, I think the Munkin mystery box is what we're going to call it. I'm really excited about because I think he understands that that's an advantage that he has in this game. And I think, although the, the pieces are young, I think he's going to try and do some things like I expect Todd Munkin to be incredibly aggressive on Sunday. Because again, like the guy's entire mentality is I'm 60 and I don't know if I'm going to be able to get another coaching job after this. I got to make, hey, while I possibly can now Routenberg, that's the unknown that does scare me. Because as much as I think a lot of the talk about the Browns defensive regression has become, you've talked your, not you, but people have talked themselves into it. Yeah. It's less about, can the players play and it's more as Mike Routenberg going to get out of the way and let him play. Yeah, I mean, everyone we've talked to about Routenberg really does respect him. It really does
think highly of him, but he's just an unknown quantity. And so I, what should I admit, we though, if you're William Cohen, how do you, how do you attempt to even game plan for the Browns knowing what we know, which is so much that we don't know is the reality there? I mean, let's, I'm expecting the Browns going to play a lot of man coverage. You can't look at the Sean Watson tape really because he hasn't played a game in 700 days. And also it's not the Browns tape doesn't matter. Yeah, it's, you got 19 games in the last year. Why should you? He's not going back and doing that. It's a, it's a 100% brand new offensive line. So good luck trying to scheme up anything from that direction. Judkins, maybe you can get something there with the run game, but again, I would think hemp, no line run game kind of goes hand in hand is what that is. Like I, two new wide receivers and I haven't even got it the defensive side of the ball. Like I, I don't know what you do with this if you're William Cohen. I think the few educated guesses you can make are the Browns are going to be a heavy run team. And that is a lot of quenchon, but some Dylan Samson, maybe a little rocket Sanders. I want to get crazy about it too. Well, so this is the other side of that. Do you just, just don't get too cute with it and make it
obvious. If you were game planning against the Sean Watson in general, what's the plan? I'm going to make, I'm going to make the Sean Watson beat me. Yeah. I'm going to do everything I can to make the Sean Watson beat me and if the Sean Watson throws the ball 35 yards in the air and connects on a million deep passes, I'm going to keep letting them do it until he shows me that he a 100% can do that. And it's not a problem. The only flaw in that logic is Casey Concepcion can beat you. You know what I mean? Like a Jerry Judy, although we haven't seen it much in the last year, Jerry Judy can beat you. Harold Fanon is an explosive play kind of guy. Samson, Isaiah Bond. Like, I do think that's like, it's not a wrinkle, but one of the features of this Browns roster is there's a lot of speed and a lot of ability to do things with speed that if your plan is, well, let it makes sense, by the way, hey, let DeShon beat us while letting DeShon beat you might be Casey Concepcion going to the house because you're just sitting back and thinking we'll just stop Quinch on Jutkins and win the damn game. Yeah, I mean, I'm just taking what the obvious approach should be. That doesn't mean that Liam Cohen's going to do that. It doesn't mean that Jacksonville
will do that. It's just trying to figure out like, what do you really do when you're when you're game planning a game that is as blind as this one? If anyone wanted to believe in this Browns team in week one and you're a believer in this Browns team in week one, I think the unknown part of this has to be at the top of the list. Is the surprise factor the best case for a Browns week one win? We got quick hits coming up talking about last night's dog butt football game and some of the fallout from it in five minutes on 92 three, the fan. Lindsay Rhodes of Sumer Sports coming up in about 40 minutes Nick and JP back on afternoon drive. We do have a developing story here JP. Oh yeah, what's up? I don't know you're going to like this. Okay. All right. I'm ready for it. I don't know that I like it, but we have some internet slutes pointing out that fanatics has dropped all of Shedore's jerseys to clearance prices. They've gone from a buck 49 99 to 39 99. It's the more expensive in the team. Every single
Shedore jersey, the internet slutes are saying every single one of them. Every I just looked on fanatics myself to make sure the internet wasn't making this up. Okay, so we have we have some deals that could potentially be had out there for listeners that want some cheap jerseys. So that's that's your takeaway and not the idea that that looks like a fire sale. I think we've got some cheap jerseys. I don't know what the takeaway could you have? Why would Shedore's jersey be on clearance here if he's one of the most popular Jersey sellers in the United States? Is the suggestion that fanatics somehow knows something before everybody else? So you think fanatics wouldn't know if somebody was going on the shop. I feel like if Shedore's Anders is being traded fanatics, not the first people that finds out. You mean I might go open probably not the first guy that has that information. I don't know about that. Michael Rubin might be top five most powerful guys in sports right now. Don't think he gets that information before all the newsbreakers and all the people that would actually be invested in that. I think the defense you're making is that fanatics fanatics would know before anybody else would know just as
early as anyone else. Yeah. That's a ridiculous suggestion. Why is that a ridiculous suggestion? Why why why would a clothing website the Jersey site be the first one to be able to know that? It's not just a Jersey website. They're a gigantic merch website. They're the biggest merch website in all of America. So why would they get the information first? So Andrew Berry because they're the most powerful sports and he's going to be powerful sports. Before Andrew Berry tells you know, Shepter or any of the newsbreakers, he's going to tell fanatics. Yeah and he's not going to call them up directly but do I think fanatics here's before the news goes public? Yeah, I think that's probable. I don't believe that at all. Why not? Give me an example of it happening. I don't know. I don't follow the fanatics market. I don't follow. Listen, when people find out stuff, you're not really defensive about this. I think you're getting oddly defensive. I think I'm going to be putting a theory in here defending fanatics being the newsbreaker on this. I think fanatics might know quicker than you really. It should or I just disagree with it completely. I got no evidence of them ever breaking news on a story. You're ever them ever being
a pro do a press release like come get 39 99 jerseys but usually when they knock jerseys down to 39 99 it's because that guy doesn't play for that team anymore. I would imagine it's just because they have a lot of inventory of Shedore Sanders jerseys. Nobody's been buying Shedore Sanders brown jerseys and they're trying to get rid of how do you know nobody's been buying them because nobody know what inside of the fanatics. I don't have any inside information. Yeah, tell us me that no one's buying Shedore jerseys. You know, isn't it obvious? Nobody's buying Shedore jerseys right now? No, no, these Shedore fans like the browns at the current moment. They're certainly not going to think that Shedore is going to be on this team for a million years. Again, it's not my theory. I'm just saying people are doing the math and wondering. We're defending the theory like it's your theory. I think it's I think it's a plausible. I don't think it can be. I don't think it should be dismissed. It gets traded in the next 24 hours. I will bow down and apologize to Michael Rubin and fanatics and also mark it as an NFL first. But Nick Wilson, I don't care about Michael Rubin. All right, I'll give you a bunch of credit. If Shedore Sanders gets traded in the next 24 hours, I'll be like, boy, did you have that one first? I know. You you you really sniffed it out.
I just think it's a lunacy to think that this means that Shedore Sanders trade is coming. Absolute and utter lunacy could be a release. The biggest trade could be a release. I guess in theory, it could be. Yeah, it's not going to be considering Todd Munkin just said a day ago that he's already going to be the backup quarterback and his slot in is the number two spot. And a day the four Todd Munkin said something different about the backup quarterback spot. I'd be really shocked if the release is coming and fanatics was first on the case. That's the I think that's a I mean, I think that's a plausible explanation for why the jurors is dropped. I think that's a reasonable take. I think it's pretty simple. I just think not a lot of people are buying Shedore Sanders browns jerseys right now. Popular guys. They put them on discount and you go from there. I think mine's more probable than yours, but I'll you know what? traded or released is more probable than just not a lot of people are buying browns. It has to be a logical explanation. I think it's my point and I think your logical explanation has a logical. I've just had a bunch of inventory of Shedore Sanders jerseys and they're not fanatics. That's bad at business. And some errors they miss they miss they calculated the Shedore market. Yeah, I think that's fair. I think I think that's very fair. They miscalculated the
Shedore market. I think that sounds way more reasonable than he's going to be released or traded in 24 hours. 26474 0092. The internet sleuths uncovering that fanatics has marked their Shedore jerseys from a buck 49 99 all the way down to 39 99. We call that the Odell Beckham Jr. Browns jerseys circa well ever since like 2022. We call that kind of mark down. Are you guys seeing the potential logic here that JP can't seem to get it out of every jersey is down to 39 99. I looked on there. It was like the first six jerseys. There are a lot of them. There are a lot of them on there though. So big. We got like two that aren't some of the male some of the the men's ones are not marked down that way. I see 149 99 for some of the actual men's ones. The women's one. The men's white one is not marked down. The men's brown one is though. That one's pretty sweet. That's not great. That's the main one. The men's Nike white the elevated one is still 189 99. So that one is even a higher up jersey. The 1946 collection that is now why are only some jerseys marked
down and not every jersey. It's not a question. We have to ask and that's a great question. Trying to corner the market. That's good to quick hits from the latest news and rumors around the sports world to the sound bites you need to hear. It's quick hits. I feel like we have enough of these. We could just start sprinkling them in the rest of the show because we did half a segment on the Shadour thing but breaking news pay attention to us. Seattle got the season opening win over the Patriots last night 13 to 10 but lost starting quarterback Sam Darnold for the game at the end of the first drive. Heroes head coach Mike McDonald giving an update on Darnold after the win. With Sam we got some great news back. It's just say it's good news right now. So it's I know uh still just you know for us and Paris with Sam we love them. At this point we were able to rule out a fracture so there's some more tests to be done and uh so that's what I'm saying when it's positive so but I know it's uh we're still working through all that but right now I think fractures out which is which is great news. It could be a significant injury and it's still better than a fracture. A fracture could end your your NFL career or at least a high level NFL career
but uh the question came to mind is how long of an injury does this have to be to cost the Seahawks a legitimate chance of repeating. DC Hawks in the time since has sounded pretty confident that he will be fine and this is not anything that's lengthy. Um I I don't know I took everything out of last night and then this morning as if he's going to be back for next week. Is that just is that to sunshine and rainbows of a look for me? I don't know because I we've not been monitoring the same markets have been all over this fanatics thing. Um you finding new on the fanatics thing in the most recent 30 seconds we talked about. I think we're going to move in Swarth a lot of money and in like just throw a lot of money. By the way why do we throw white parties that makes me very uncomfortable as somebody who's from the sticks. Has a different meaning when you throw it out there. Well a white part of a party uh culturally is obviously a very different thing too. I mean there's I mean there's I don't know. I don't I don't throw white parties. I'm not sure and either well you look at it. That is so that every party is a white party. His the hotest ticket you can find. Come on now. Who's having fun? I got a lot of diversity in my life Nick. By a YouTube. I got way more than was worth. Tell you that right now. How dare you? How dare I? We have
women. We have. Yeah. We've got fortune. I need restaurants. Yeah. You're building a fifth. You're really. Three Mexican restaurants. Yeah. Really doing it up. I diversity out the Yin Yang. Really doing it up. Uh all right. Uh Barry Melrose former NHL player coach uh longtime hockey analyst for ESPN has died. Uh he was 70 years old. I'm not a hockey guy in the slightest bit. You know this about me. But even I love Barry Melrose. I don't know anybody that didn't love Barry Melrose. And in fact I would watch hockey segments on ESPN when Barry was on just because I thought he was that entertaining. I thought he was one of the best parts of hockey on ESPN. Yeah. I learned a lot of hockey from Barry Melrose. It was hard to get hockey information or yeah outside of watching highlights which again are more just here's what happened instead of editorializing it. Uh Barry was that gatekeeper for me until I discovered the internet when I was about 16 years old. Uh this one's funny. I don't I don't get affected that often by celebrity deaths because of my ties and him being
my only tie to the NHL when I was nine years old. I was I was kind of rocked by this one especially just 70 years old and Parkinson's is what what took him. That's just a brutal anything and any kind of degenerative diseases are really just brutal to happen anyways. It's just it's really a tough one. I just feel like there's a lot of people that share that same sentiment like if you wanted to hockey coverage at any point in your life Barry Melrose was the guy to deliver that and then you quickly learned that he was the best at it for a reason. And he was wildly entertaining with an a product that I again not my favorite product to the NHL but he would make it really entertaining and really enjoyable. Yeah. That's a tough one there. Thoughts thoughts and love go out to the the Melrose family there. And obviously a few of us know some people to work at ESPN. A lot of people affected by the loss of Barry Melrose. All right. This one's a quick one Saturday night live is is named their hosts and musical acts for the first four shows of the fall. Yeah. Nick star Jalen Brunson is hosting week one. Does Jalen Brunson do anything for non-Nix fans trying to watch SNL? I think he's going to absolutely suck at it. I don't I don't see a world that I don't
see a world that exists. The Jalen Brunson is good at hosting SNL hosting SNL. SNL is really hard and there's been a couple athletes that have been able to pull it off. I thought Travis Kelsey didn't all right job. I think Charles Barkley did a good a nice job. Peyton's done a good job. Peyton's done a nice job but like you have to have and we're talking about Peyton and Barkley. You have to have that mentality to do it to begin with. Jalen hasn't shown me any of that. Now I'd have to be really surprised in like a where did that come from world for Jalen Brunson to be awesome at this. Yeah. One of the flaws of SNL and I'm a big SNL fan and I've watched SNL since I was a kid and I've watched the original seasons and I like I feel like I know quite a bit about SNL but one of the flaws is they really like to get inside New York and they think that it's their job to make everyone you know really enjoy everything about New York. Nobody that isn't a Nick's fan is going to care about this and and he could make up for it if you're suggesting what you're suggesting is true but he was actually good at this. Jalen Brunson has never shown anyone any bit of of actual flavor or personality. It's what's that monologue even going to sound like.
Yeah. Or is it just going to be a 10 minute standing ovation from New Yorkers to a guy that won a title where people here in Cleveland just do not care. Yeah. When SNL gets it really wrong is when they forget that the rest of the country exists and this feels like again if this was if this was like week eight I guess I would have an maybe my opinion would be a little different week one or if he did something where it's like McConaughey host but Jalen Brunson's there and he gets to be in a skit and he gets to have the standing ovation or whatever you want to do that perfectly fine. Yeah hosting it. Yeah. Yeah. It's a big deal to ask somebody to host that. Also I feel like the first four weeks musical guest sucks and that also bumps me that I even do post game interviews. Yeah. He hands the mic off to his dad half the time. Like what are we what are we doing? And not great. Not great at all. When we come back a damning headline about Jose Ramirez in a conversation we have to have but I don't really want to have about the guardians and Jose Ramirez in five minutes on 92 through the fan. Hey guys.
