Nick and JP back with you on the fan here on a football Friday on an F law Friday. We got to talk a little Ohio state. That's really tough to say Ohio state with Ohio's Tate. Yeah. And again, not and land the plane in the second name for whatever reason you might hear and might not hear there. But Ohio's Tate coming up in the, we just say Tate. It can just hear it in there. Coming up in about 20 minutes time of bar stool. He's got his punishment list out. If you're not familiar with that, we'll break it down coming up in about 20 minutes time. We also have Jordan Schultz coming up and just about, okay, the two at 420 and some guardians baseball within the hours should the rain hold out. But a big talking point here recently has been the play of Travis Pazana. And obviously at one point, he was your lead off hitter in the last 30 games though. 2018 with a 245 slugging percentage. Just no home runs, nine RBIs and 11 walks and 25 strikeouts.
Well, Mark turnoff. Yeah. Was on. I was get confused because his dad, no, it's Mike turnoff. Mike turnoff. Mark turnoff is the radio guy. Mike turnoff, the guardians. Tended that this morning too, by the way. GM and everything. We all do all radio guys. We all do that with turnoff. I just, whatever. But one half of sure netty was on with the morning boys today and he did talk about Travis Pazana and the struggles during a important season for the guardos. This is what we do every year. This is how we do it. We win with young players and that means they go through ups and downs. By the way, veteran players go through ups and downs too. They're just used to going through it. But this is the sort of constant balance of performance and development. And we know who we are. We know how we have to win and you see it with young guys like on Hell and now and chased the lottery. And now Travis Pazana and whoever it is, Brian Roqueo has had ups and downs this year. We are confident in the group that we have. We know that this is a group that can take us into the postseason.
And we're all have to make tough decisions about who plays every day that gives us the best shot of winning. But we know that the best team that we can, that we can feel out there has the best version of Travis Pazana on it for sure. I thought Mike came off a little defensive of young Travis Pazana and even and Steven votes pressure last night. I thought he came off a little defensive about Travis. And I don't mind it. By the way, I just wanted to note, it definitely seems like a sore spot to bring up the fact that Travis Pazana in the last 30 games and actually a little bit longer that has not been very good. Yeah, I take it longer than that. I went from July 1st on Nick and July 1st on he's batting average to 23 on base percentage 319. So that's that's two months of baseball right there. That's a, I mean, that's an extended time. That's 200 played appearances. He has not been good and I understand why they get defensive. I do understand that made Nullstar team was for many stretches of the season. You thought carrying the team in certain aspects and it just hasn't looked good for two months. And I think they're genuinely worried.
Especially when you look around and see everyone from that draft class having a lot of success. I think they're genuinely worried about where Bazana fits right now. They're not going to show it. Yeah, it's interesting. It's, there's not, when you run an organization, the guardians weigh what they've done really well is be able to kind of keep the temperature around the team at a pretty solid baseline. And what that allows you to do is that again, it's the idea of if your process works, you have more swings and hits than swings and misses, right? The problem is this is a really big swing. It was a really important swing. And listen, I'm not ready to panic on Travis Bazana, but I've watched to now play second base for a couple of weeks now. And I think that's your second basement going forward provided you don't need her now at shortstop because Brian Roqueo's on a milk carton himself. So that's the other side of this is if you go from July 1st, Roqueo's numbers are worse than Bazana's. I can give him to you right here. I have them, but they're, I've well going to. No, I mean, just salt and that's two, baby.
There's no need to, but like they're, they're worse. That's the idea. Just than what Bazana's numbers are since July 1st. And so if Roqueo was playing awesome and it was a real conversation, then I think it'd be interesting to find out what the Guardians actually would do because it now has to play. He's just, he's earned it. He has to play now at this point. Yeah. And I will say, I think when you're talking about a young player's confidence in this, I know, nobody wants to hear this stuff. This is where I actually really agree with Mike Churnoff and what he had to say today. I know nobody cares about a young player's confidence or how you raise a very young team. I'm empathetic to the idea. It's one of the hardest things you can do in baseball while also remaining, you know, competitive. And I do, I think there's a chance that maybe Travis Bazana's your left field or next year and not your second basement. Yeah, there's nothing you can do about that now. You have to live with the errors. You're going to have to live with. I think he's gotten better defensively by the way. I think he's worked really hard at it. I don't know. I'd say better. I see a vast improvement from a couple months ago.
I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. You don't see it. I think he looks much better defensively because they're still big upsies. In fact, I would be I still so many big upsies that it's hard to kind of downplay the highlight moments. I could almost make an argument. I wonder if he's spending too much time on his defense and he needs to spend more time on his offense. And maybe that's where we ended up in this spot that we're in right now. And I thought I had about Bonaylor for the first two years. He wasn't any good to play. That's giving him a lot of benefit of the doubt that he hasn't earned yet at this point. But yeah, I mean, like this is a, it's a, it's an interesting spot for them to be in with a guy they took number one overall. Well, and here's the, like, so this is where again, I'll come back to. I actually agree. You know, I made the point that it sounded like Mike Churnoff was very defensive about this. And I think voter is a little defensive about this. And that's fine. By the way, they're trying to protect their guy. And that's the way you should. He's so young. Yeah.
And this kind of goes back to the Da Lauder thing too, although he has had just a fantastic rookie season at the plate. They're, they're so young. And you know, because of where Bessonah was drafted and because of Da Lauder's injury, these guys were pushed a little bit. And because of that, they're doing a lot of the heavy lifting developmentally at the big leagues. And that is so stinkin hard while your teams also in a wildcard versus maybe he's 24 though. I mean, like he's the right age to be up here and doing this. No, no, but in terms of like minor league experience, you look at how much, how many games he played the minor leagues and he also had some injuries in there as well versus how many games Roqueo played before he came out. They prefer a but ton of minor league experience before you get to the big leagues. Bessonah and Da Lauder are two guys that have kind of jumped that trend for them. I do think that matters. I do think developmentally, you need as many of your bats as you possibly can get. I want to encourage them to keep, keep the aggressiveness that they've had with some
of these guys and the track is a, you're seeing it pay off. And I don't think Bessonah's broke because he or at least going through a stretch here. That isn't great because he felt rushed up or anything like that. Like I mean, it's so many times we see these guys 24 years old. You need to be up here playing big league baseball, especially, especially if you're taking the place that he was. I, I think less about age and I just think about reps every day. And again, none of this is to say you're wrong, by the way, or that I actually even disagree that much. I just think like, all right, you guys wanted Travis Bessonah. This is part and parcel with having a guy develop at bats in real time. Like you are going to have stretches where a guy looks unplayable because this is the guardians have become finishing school for their prospects. I think there was a couple of things they did when they called up. Schneeman as one of their, their last editions and in that aunts net he made it abundantly clear the idea that they're not there. There's no room for at bats on this roster right now. They're they're in part of the part of the discourse and why they didn't make some of the other editions like Ralphie was that they don't have enough at bats for these other
guys. Schneeman's up for a reason and he got the call for a reason. Well, I think part of that is them telling you they want to if they're going to lose, they want to lose with Bessonah and they want to make sure Bessonah gets the experience. It's whatever experience that comes in the playoffs, anything else like that. That matters to them. A great deal moving forward for the years to come. And I think that's the right response. Do you agree, by the way? Yes. Yes, I would not be benching as bad as he's been for two months. I would not be benching him. I'd be letting him grow through this experience. I'd be letting him get at bats, get the quality at bats because he's going to be a staple in this lineup for years to come. And here's the other thing. I think they're going to be able to do both in the end. Like they're going to lose a cup and it's not just Bessonah. As we mentioned, Roqueo has been Roqueo that they're a bunch of young players on this team. And there's not a great deal of consistency from day to day from week to week. That's sad. You might lose four extra games this year. I still think if you're into playoffs, well, you've kind of superseded your goals. You played all these young guys. You're getting them real time experience. Most of them are producing at a level you hope they would specifically chase the lottery.
And you make the playoffs like if I had told everybody that go. Sorry, if I had told myself, hey, this is what's going to happen. What is played out through 140 games and all the young players and all the success that you've had, I would have been, I would have signed up for this 10 times. That's right. You would have been thrilled. Yeah, you would have been thrilled. The idea that they're competitive down the stretch here and you're developing the young guys. They're playing for a couple years down the line. I get it. That infuriates guardians fans to hear because I feel like we're constantly telling everyone. Yeah, one or two more years, but this year has been different and they've done a lot of different things. It is about more so the years beyond than it is this specific moment in time. And again, you're still going to make the playoffs. I know, I know for some reason, people have stopped being impressed by that with the guardians team because I think there is just a complete failure to acknowledge the circumstances that happen in baseball that impact teams like the guardians more than it does. He Yankees, I think the difference is like Oscar Gonzalez was a flash in the pan because he was never meant to be anything.
Like you look at some of the guys we've said, oh, just a year from now, you know, we will win this guy, but just get all most of the guys that have come up and done that even Kwan, if first good as he's been, that was a fringe prospect. These are all like top 10, you know, top 10 prospects for you and some of them are top 100 or top 50 prospects in baseball major, major prospect. That's actually something you can look at and go, oh, if this stays up like this and you guys get these experience and they and the experience doesn't crush these guys, you will have to line the whole problem on why you haven't really been able to win the World Series isn't just about the financial side. It's that you haven't developed enough hitting, right? Somebody can send judge in Stanton against you and at any point they can change the game in a postseason series. You didn't have an answer to that. You look around this lineup. This lineup has some guys that can be that and by the way, there's a couple more on the way in the next year or two and I think they're not done. Obviously with that rotation, that's where all of a sudden you really can cook with
gas and maybe have a two or three of your run. Fan grabs right now, by the way, has him at 43% to make the playoffs. How you feeling about that? I mean, it's kind of where I have them pegged at the moment for being truthful. It's close to a coin foot for me. That's why these series coming up, especially these games against the Tigers are so impactful. And we're really we're cronching this down to a 20 game season and the problem that I'm running into anytime Parker Messick takes a mount. I feel really confident anytime Gavin Williams takes the mount except for a couple of times ago, I feel pretty good. When we get to the buy B cantillo part portion of this and even foster Griffin to a degree, I feel less confident about it. I think this is where I get to call back to fan graphs being bleep and nerds and say the guardians gonna make the playoffs. Is that right? I didn't say it's just not the certainty that I feel like a lot of people are walking around expecting to be. I'm 60% I'm 60% sure. Graphs says 60% yep. Nics are dumb as to saying a 60% chance. I like when Nick graphs is like 75 or 80% they take two today. We're gonna get up to 75 77% who knows.
See how I feel it might even flip that much for fan graphs. That's how close this whole entire thing is you take two games and all of a sudden it changes everything. They're numbers. Oh, I got my numbers here. It's not a it's not a person. It's numbers. Oh, Ohio's Tate. Good job. Good job. Barstool sports in five minutes on 92 through the fan. The best part of being able to watch anyone do 2020s is I just got to see Mark coach talking about the changes to Hall of Fame voting. Yeah. And when when describing sweeping changes he did actual air quotes in studio. I was like, no, pretty much everybody is explaining them as sweeping changes. I don't think it's like I don't think anyone's like sweeping changes, but he even did if you listen back to that 20 you hear the quotations. He's like the only person in the world that has a problem with this. Is that the idea? I think so. I think he's mocking it. Probably some really serious dynamic thoughts on this. We just don't ever need to explore. Yeah, because it's the Hall of Fame.
It's made up and they're just kind of museums and they're great. You should go to the football Hall of Fame by the way. It's right on the road. The Hall of Fame village is awesome, but you shouldn't be upset about the voting. Bill Bellachuk got jobbed because he's a freaking weirdo and that is just bearing fruit every day, but we're going to go ahead and switch gears here. Well, keep it in college football. Just leave it away from the Bellachuk's and the cocaine's and what nots. And of course, Michael Embardi's rug, Ohio State gets underway this weekend against ball state. And our next guest is not only a Wadsworth grizzly. He's not only a Cleveland sports fan, gigantic Ohio State fan and he's got, he's personally guaranteeing the Ohio State Buckais will go 12 and 0. And for each game they would lose. He has a specific punishment. That list is out. We go out to the Wysehart right. We make it right call Kyle Wright hotline and welcome on Ohio's Tate to go ahead and talk of bar stool of these punishments and the Buckais. What's up?
Boys, what's going on? I'm making my own afternoon drive home right now to Columbus just just passed under the welcome to Ohio sign. So I feel like that's a good omen. Oh, very nice. You survived into the end, which I think is a very important part of that drive. Yeah. I hope we survived the drive right now. We need to survive their punishment here when we go back to Bloomington later this fall. See it's interesting because I, you know, I was thinking for each potential loss, maybe if it's like a more acceptable loss, it's an easier punishment. I mean, a loss to Illinois is you get a spray tan until you're orange. Oh, I did just read, I just read the parenthetical that your engagement photos are the very next day. You know, I'm going to walk that one back that actually orange crush is a brutal punishment. Yeah, that's a, that's hands down. So, so my fiancee were getting married at the end of the year. My fiancee gets one veto a year once I come up with this punishment list. And she, she wanted to use it for Illinois so bad, but she's rolling the dice that, that if at home, it should be a night game.
She thinks we're going to beat him. So she, she vetoed my initial Texas punishment because we're dogs in Austin. Illinois was almost losing at half before I got hell marry last night. I think you're comfortable. You think you're safe with Illinois. The Northwestern one is the one I'm interested in. The entrance exam one, take the ACT until you can average admission score Northwestern. 34, you're a smart guy. I know you're a smart guy. Uh, I mean, that's, what if you just don't get it? You just think like practice tests until you do eventually get a 34, which, which is, it's going to take you forever. Yeah, I mean, the internet's all over for me for that one saying 34 is impossible. 34 is impossible. Yeah, I would have to take it every single time it's offered until I get it. But here's the thing that I keep reminding everyone, not everyone has that wadsworth grizzlies education. That's fair. It's good to go. It's a good point. They push you there solid point. Right. So we're, so we're 99% of the world thinks 34 is unattainable. I think I'm, I think I get a tuner. I think I go to class with a bunch of 16 to 18 year olds trying to get into school. And I think I get it within a year. All right.
I do want to talk about the Michigan one before we get to actual, how stayed here because a nipple piercing and I just want to, I just want you to know, Tate, that this is, we don't kink shame on the show. We don't lifestyle shame on the show. If you just want to get your nipple pierced, you can and we're going to support you through that. You don't need to put this on the line for this game. We're basically convinced everyone just said they have their kinks. They have what they like. And this is their way of getting that accomplished. Is that all this is for you? No, that's a salt. That's a salt. Boy, you got to be on my side on this one. The internet tell me that like, dude, you can just do it if you want. No, I tried to come up with something relevant. I tried to come up with something that wouldn't be the last year or supposed to be walk home for a man or a round off your member. It was a absolute blizzard. So I couldn't do that this year. And I said, all right, fine. We'll do the Ryan day nipple piercing. But no, to be on record, I do not want a nipple piercing. All right. Which one is actually, because I keep going, I like to compare things a lot. I wish when you're actually scared is going to happen. I was thinking nipple piercing versus getting a vasectomy.
I think the USC one is fed. I think the vasectomy one. This might be just another one of you don't want to tell the fiance that you want to vasectomy and that this is, this is maybe again your work around. No, we want to have kids. We plan on having kids. But when you're 50 and a half point favorites, I feel like if we lose the ball state tomorrow, vasectomy is the last of my problems. Like you're probably, it's probably going to be drive off a bridge on the way home. You know what I mean? Yeah, be done. Be done. Be done. I wouldn't do that. Yeah, that's definitely not a punishment. That's not on the list. That's off the board. You can read it into the reallistory. Yeah. Vasek to me also drive off a bridge. Yeah. Dealers choice. We should be fine. The one, the one that I'm least looking forward to that I think we can lose one. If I do, if we lose the organ, repeat would kill me. But USC. So my boss big cat. He gets a button that he gets depressed. And if if if I'm not, he presses it says USC. And if I'm not in a ocean within 24 hours, I get fired.
And so that could be Christmas Eve. That could be the Michigan game. That could be my honeymoon. That could be my wedding. So we're going on the road to USC. It's a seven point spread right now. That's something that could be a serious issue. All right, Tade. Let's get to Ohio state here. I'm a, I'm a little torn because I actually think this is a great team. But like the people that usually that I start like hyping myself up with about the buck guys just kind of seem blah about this. I don't know if it is that ball state is week one. I think everybody expects them to be in the playoffs. But for a team with this much talent and this much upside, I'm not feeling the, the buzz, the juice amongst my Ohio state brother. And I'm not sure if you're feeling that same way. No, it's interesting. I'm with you. There doesn't seem to be around a lot of buzz both in the Ohio state crowd, but also in the national media, everyone wants to point out that our schedules tough. And this could be the year that, you know, the streak ends of 15 straight seasons with two or less losses or this could be a year that we missed the playoffs.
But then you look and they voted us number one in the AP poll. So and we bring back a Heisman, you know, finalist and saying we bring back a two time all American and Jeremiah Smith are often should be loaded a thousand yard russier in Bo Jackson. And I think the biggest thing about this buck guy team, I think we improved at the offensive coordinator position 10 times over by bringing in Arthur Smith. So I, I think that our offense is going to be as good as it's ever been here. I am nervous a little bit that we replaced so much on the defense for the third straight year. Yeah, it's interesting. You know, you brought to my attention the all the on three list of all the, all the media predictions and everything. And you're not on the list somehow, which I think is insulting the way I'm sure you think it as well. Only two guys at Ohio state and one of them is urban Meyer, which just kind of feels like that's a given. I, I, I don't get it. Isn't this team supposed to be, you'd think this team would be as dominant as ever? Yeah, I really feel this. This is in Ohio State trolling. I feel like people have a Ohio State fatigue. I feel like we've been the gold standard of college football for so long right now that they just want to find a reason to nitpick us.
Last year it was the schedule. Last year was the pace of play this year. It's going to be our schedules too tough. Instead of last year, it being easy. I don't know. I don't necessarily understand why this team isn't, you know, being sung their praises. We bring back so much talent and we have such a good coaching staff. But yeah, people, people want to pick everyone but the book guys right now. So we're an interesting spot here where I do think Ryan Day is going to get a second national title in Columbus. And I, it just wouldn't surprise me if it was this year because of everything they have on offense. I mean, this could be, I, I, I almost, I almost feel like you can't talk enough about how great this offense could be. That being said, I'm in a weird spot of, of doing the championship comparison thing because in my head, Ryan Day still isn't the coach that urban Meyer is and still isn't the coach that Jim Tressel is. But by simple math, if he's got twice the amount of Natties as either does it Ohio State, it begs a question with one more Natti does Ryan Day overtake those other two amongst the all time great Ohio State coaches.
I mean, if you look at winning percentage and you look at Natties, then, and he gets that second one, the answer is yes, but the one thing that, that the outside perspective never sees is his record against Michigan is nowhere near what Tressel and Urban's is. And I think that matters to, to Buck I fan. So ultimately, I think that Ryan Day's best quality is he wins every game he's supposed to win, except for that Michigan game. Whereas Urban, yes, I loved Urban, I loved Urban as a recruiter. I feel like Urban got the boys up for the big game. Urban Meyer was known to drop a game we shouldn't or we should have won from time to time. Ryan Day has not done that outside of the rivalry. And if he gets that second national championship, I think it's tough to argue against them. All right, we're making a real Sophie's choice here. Portano ecology and says you're going to $10,000 bonus bet. You got to choose one person to win the Heisman this year. Are you choosing Saiyan or are you choosing Jeremiah Smith? And that's a tough question. I want to know what you guys think is my thing is this Jeremiah Smith, I think has the opportunity to have the signature moment, the signature catches what he's also going to get double teams and double covered and triple covered.
And then Julian Sands is going to benefit from it. So I would bet, I would bet Julian Sands, but I do think that the national media would be more likely to vote for a Jeremiah Smith. What do you guys think? So it's interesting. I do feel like there's already a natural build for Jeremiah Smith, but this has been such a quarterback award. Mostly I know, I know there have been a couple skill players to win it, that it feels like if both are great, I think Julian Sands, I'd actually give the edge to Julian Sands by the time we get to the end of the season. I think Jeremiah has got the better story. And I think that that usually prevails with the Heisman, who's got the best story? Who do the writers know and respect and think to themselves? Here, Jeremiah Smith is going to be a great NFL player. I don't know why this part is part of the equation, but it is. We don't know what Julian Sands and he was awesome last year and he did get Heisman votes, but I feel like I've had the narrative for Jeremiah Smith is just that much larger. I agree with that. And I think the narrative on Julian Sands, like I'm still riding with my guy, no doubt about it. But I do think people are a little bit soured in the national media right now after chirping our easy schedule for 12 games.
And then in the two biggest moments, we lose 13 to 10 to Indiana because he can't get a quarterback sneak and then he's running all over the place except for across the line of scrimmage against Miami. So I think Buckeye fans are still high on sand, but I do agree the national media right now. It would be more likely to vote for Jeremiah Smith. And I'll say this one more thing. I'm real interested tomorrow with 50 point favorites against ball state is Ryan Daygan, a force feed Jeremiah and start this Heisman campaign or is he not going to? Like if he comes out of this game tomorrow and he has 149 and two scores, then I would say Jeremiah Smith is going to be is going to be a favorite. But if he comes out and he's trying to rest everyone up for Texas, then I don't necessarily think Ryan Day's showing that he cares that much about it. I know there was a comment. I think it was Josh Pate that said it that there was, you know, he had heard a concern or two about Julian Sands. I can't remember was like that dog in him or work ethic, but it was something that occasionally hear about college quarterbacks from time to time. I hear I'm gas in the guy up as a Heisman guy, but are you certain that Julian Sands will take a step for this year?
I need to see him. I need the one thing I miss about my Ohio State quarterback and there's not a throw Julian Sands can't make it with our receivers. I mean, it's going to be as explosive an offense as you're going to see in college football, but I miss the Ohio State quarterbacks when it's on third and one or third and two that we can just run behind someone and get the first down until I see it. Like if you've seen Julian Sands in person, he's not he's even smaller in my opinion in person than he is on TV. And I think that the will hours or the Justin steals or the Cardale Jones or the JT pair it's third and one fourth and one. We just ran the quarterback. If we can do that, I think we're a better football team because of it, but right now I don't trust that it's going to happen. Fair, but counterpoint the internet's very impressed. He's dating a Pilates instructor. You're very impressed. Yeah. Yeah. I think he's saying I think he's doing really well for himself. It's big, big something energy. All right. I noticed there's no 17. I don't know. I don't know. There's no 17 to no board for the Browns. I noticed that.
Yeah. I was taking some heat on the internet for not having confidence in my team. I think it should be reverse. I think if they win a game, I think I think Portanoi should give me some sort of prize. All right. This is where I really get to surprise for each win. I like it. I don't. I do like the idea. I'm just here to tell you get ready for an eight win team tape. Who's your quarterback on that eight win team? Well, DeShawn's going to have two games fail miserably. And then we're going to should door it up. And he's going to make some big mistakes. He's also going to make some big plays. And it's going to be fun to watch and they will be competitive. You heard it here first. I hope you're right. I'll take the odds that the quarterback week 17 is not on your roster right now. I think and I think that your quarterback next year's not even the NFL yet. I think that I don't think either quarterback is your answer here. Are you disgusted that it's DeShawn week one? I mean, here's my thing. If if if should der was even close to the answer, I feel like the Browns would start him.
They're taking so much hate, so much heat. And DeShawn's not the answer either. So I'm not like disgusted morally like I get in the NFL. You need to play the person that you think is going to win the games. But I don't see the long term answer. Like he's not our quarterback next year. Everyone hates him. The city seems to hate him. He seems to hate the city. So that tells me that he must be better than should her standards on a day to day basis. Or else should her would be starting. All right, Tate, it's always great to catch up with you. You you bring Wadsworth great pride. So thank you for that. I would say enjoy the punishment list. I think you're going to have to I think 12 and 0 is very, very doable this year. So it might end up, might end up having no punishment, which which I don't know. Like should there be like a punishment if there's no punishment? I think if we go 12 and I should be celebrated. How about that? That's fair. Yeah, let's give you a parade and that alongside everybody else in the same way when the Browns win eight games. I would like to be celebrated. I'll call in and give you your flowers when they win eight games. And I'll and I'll have you call in so I can give you your flowers.
All right, buddy, I appreciate you. All right, love talking to you guys. See it, but Ohio's Tate, their bar stool sports on the Wyinshark right. We make it right. Call Kyle right hotline. He's always a very youthful energetic guy. We really do like Tate here. Knowing that he graduated in 2011 does feel like a hammer to the back of the skull for me though. I that's tough for you. Yeah, go out to the cool thing about Wadsworth is like my buddy Jason, my buddy, my buddy Jason Corrothers, if I just tell somebody all like within a like a eight year range of of my graduating class, if I just say, oh Jason, they'll like, oh yeah, we know Jason because that like that's how Wadsworth is, even though it's become a very kind of big town now. And you graduate 2003. I know I graduated in a 04, but he graduated in 05. So I've got a nice swath here. I can't that's in that that's in the eight year range. 11. You got a little bit, you know, no, I don't think that's going to be a range. And the farther you get out in that eight year five year range, maybe it's about three years.
I might have stretched it a little bit there on the eight year, but yeah, for my school, I get like a one year range. As people I went to school with, I'm like, I don't even know who you are. I was listening to Ross Tucker's podcast the other day and he said it's the 30th anniversary of his senior year in high school. And I was like, that can't be possible. And I was like, oh, it's like 22 years for me. So that's great. Ross is almost 50. Yeah. Yeah, doesn't look a day over 49. I never thought about how old he is. I just never thought about how old Ross Tucker is. It a lot happened to him once he already hit 40, didn't he? A real real life story 40 doesn't stop you at all. 40s when you can really take off. Some are saying the 40s are your best era. Are they saying that? I actually am. It actually, yeah, life's never been better. That's fantastic. I love that for you. I'm 37. I don't know it yet. Yeah. I'm going to hang on to the 30s. You just keep looking. Some are saying the mid 30s is where you shine the best. Awful, especially if you have like small children, just the worst. Not getting people say it's where you're really take off. Nope, not really.
You're real stall out there for a while. I like all of our segments doing this. Some people say, well, you know what I should do? I should say, get a lot of text coming in. And then I should just base every opinion I have based off those texts. Is that right? Yeah. I think that make really compelling like radio. You think so? Yeah. I think people will be like, this guy knows what he's talking about because the 12 guys that he texts with really have some opinions that he then gloss on. Do you know enough people at Wadsworth to get? Ohio's Tate into the Hall of Fame over there? No. Nope. Do they even acknowledge his prayer? Are they like my high school where they just act as if I never even went there? No, no, no, they've done some things for him, but the hall of fame is a hall of fame. I like, no, but I like that. He deserves the recognition. He deserves these. He's brought. Yeah, you said a great joy to the school and a lot of notoriety to the nation. We'll react to what Tate had to say about Ohio State in five minutes on 92, three, the fan. I'm with you. There doesn't seem to be around a lot of buzz both in Ohio State crowds, but also in the national media. Everyone wants to point out that our schedule's tough and this could be the year that, you know,
the streak ends of 15 straight seasons with two or less losses or this could be a year that we missed the playoffs. But then you look and they voted as number one in the AP poll. So and we bring back a Heisman finalist and saying we bring back a two-time all-american and Jeremiah Smith are often should be loaded a thousand-yard russer in Bo Jackson. And I think the biggest thing about this buck I've seen, I think we improved at the offense in a coordinator position ten times over by bringing in Arthur Smith. So I think that our offense is going to be as good as it's ever been here. I am nervous a little bit that we were played so much on the defense for the third straight year. Ohio's Tate, which is who is a Wadsworth alum there, Barstool legend, as well. Great stuff with him in the previous segment there. It's weird because I am excited about Ohio State football. I'm very excited that we're watching a bunch of legitimate football games this weekend, whether you think Ohio State ball state is legit or not. So I am very excited about this.
I also look at this and go, all right, I think they'll be in the playoffs and we'll see. I feel like that is, I feel like Ohio State is one of those teams, one of the rare teams that because the expectations are so high, the threshold for like getting super excited about them has gotten too high as well. It's interesting because on one side of it, it's like, well, they have two high-smann potentials or at least two people that are in the high-smann favorite list before the season gets underway. They should have one of the best quarterbacks in college football. They should have one of the best coaches in college football. At least he's perceived that way. And like everything stacks up for them in a way that should suggest a lot of good things will happen. But then there's some scary points there here that exist as well. The idea that they have eight new starters on the defensive side of the ball, I'd be a little worried about that. That defense average 10 points of game last year. They were dominant last season. And the idea that you're just going to replace that and expect it to be awesome. Ohio State typically does, but it's just a hard ask. I think so much of their dominance last year was that I think Matt Patricia is better suited
for the college game. Sorry, I think he's better suited for what they want to do defensively than Jim Nolcis. I think Jim Nolcis is a system guy. And I think unless you have the exact right players to I don't think Jim Nolcis going to be a I'll be and I had reservations about Jim Nolc then didn't hate him as DC. But watching Matt Patricia with some guys having left the previous year have a better defense. It just blew my brain. I know it's so much of last year though. Even the Patricia part of this. It was what was smiling. I said blow my blow my mind. Yeah, that's fine. Yeah, I think it'd been accomplished what you were trying to say. It was something worse. Yeah, you're fine. This isn't what's going to get you canceled. There'll be something far more problematic down the line. I think it's going to be fine. I think it's going to be far more like that and that of all the things you could have gotten Wilson. It's my biggest fear. Honestly, it's going to be like this. This is the one. This is what this is how it ends up happening. What's things to say? I can do worse. I promise you.
Last year though, they were able to sleepwalk outside of the Texas game in week two obviously. They were able to sleepwalk for the majority of the season. Even like Patricia, it's great as he was. I never just if you were the 10 points of game last year and they're turning over this whole entire defense, I like Patricia. A lot of last year is not what this schedule is going to be this year. Six six teams in the top 25. They got to take on this year before we get to the playoffs. This is a this is a different beast for this Ohio State team. Well, and I think I think what Tate said is true, which is that Arthur Smith over Brian Hartline. Brian Hartline is a buck I legend. I beloved guy in the Ohio State community. And certainly got a lot of love here in Cleveland as well. Burn being just down the road. But I don't know he was a truly great play caller, great offensive coordinator. I think Arthur Smith is going to be a lot more in line with the chip Kelly kind of higher. Sure. And so, you know, I think Brian Hartline getting a headcoaching job was right. Cause I think he might end up being a better head coach than he was a coordinator.
I think I think that could be a real win for for Julian saying. I think an under talked about part of last year's Ohio State team was the idea that against really good teams against good opponents Julian saying in that offense did not run. It didn't they barely scored against Texas in week two. They barely scored against Indiana in the big 10 title game. They barely scored against Miami. You have it's 12 points a game in those three contest neck like they have it's 30 game and all the other games you have it's 12 points a game against the three toughs to opponent you had. I think the offense is a lot of room to grow. And I think it's gonna see, but what's crazy about this is we're talking about it and it still feels once removed. Like usually like we start talking about the Browns or even, you know, Ohio State in previous years, more start talking about the more you kind of get gassed up. I just kind of I kind of this is there is an element to what the naysayers have said about college football, the doomsdayers have said where it was like, well, you're eventually going to make the regular season irrelevant. I don't think it'll ever be irrelevant for about 93% of college football. I think Ohio State is in
the 7%. I think they're a team that it's like, yeah, wake me up at the end of November and hopefully beat Michigan and I just I agree with your main point is that it just kind of feels like they're going to get to the playoffs and it is what it is. But I think this year is different because it's so stacked last year that definitely had that last year. There was I mean, the Texas game was fine, but there was a lot of there was a lot of nothing in a lot of that schedule. Six preseason top 25 teams in this schedule. Like I just think I every single week feels like a blockbuster. You're going to get more invested. Maybe maybe it'll honestly after the ball state game, then you're going to Texas. Maybe that's when it kind of changes. I would think so. I would hope so. You're right though. There's not a lot of enthusiasm at the moment. And again, by the way, I don't even like I want. I'm a little out on this Texas team because it's been described as the best Texas team that Sarkezians have ever had the best ones since going back to the Vince Young. Texas Longhorns. And here's the thing. They've had plenty of NFL talent in Texas. I think the problem is Sarkezian. I don't think he's a big and I could end up eating these words at this season. I don't think he is
a prime time coach. I think he's a little over and flated. I think honestly, I think the argument that the morning show had about Ryan Day is he a is he a great coach or does he just have great players? I think that was completely miscast. I think that's a conversation about Steve Sarkezian. Because Steve Sarkezian, when it comes to big games, does not deliver enough for me. Which is funny because we have a lot of college coaches that are that way. Like when you say Sarkezian, that was your right, but I always think of Dan landing in that regard now. I'm like, Dan landing is my new version of Sarkezian. Doesn't win in the big game. I think Orange is going to change that by the way. I think Orange is going to have a really nice year this year. So I'm trying to get ahead of it. And then we'll see if he can prove me wrong. But like there's there's enough coaches out there that exist that can't get the big game. Ryan Day can get the big game now. 216 474 0092. Where's your hype factor for this Ohio State team? And when we come back, there might be something we have to do a better job of admitting about this Brown's team, about to Sean Watson. We'll debate that about five minutes on 92 through the fan.
