The Todd Monkens show, the coaches show coming up in one hour's time. I can admit, um, just in thinking about for some reason this kind of jog my memory, the idea that Sunday is going to be Todd Monkens head coaching debut. Yeah. I got kind of excited for the, for the trust in Todd Man himself. Okay. Yeah. I'm happy you're excited for his debut. Yeah. Like that's, that's a really cool thing from a guy that came from a family of coaches from a guy who, I'm sure there were doubts that he had about ever being an NFL head coach. Yeah.
Who's taken this kind of discursive path to being a head coach in the NFL. I say it's a really cool story. And it's funny. I think there's a lot of cynical ways that some people look at the hiring of Todd Monkens and the Browns coaching process and the Browns. But I still, despite my disagreement with coach Monkens about to Sean Watson, not cynical about Todd. I'm excited to see what we can do. Yeah. You know, it's interesting. I heard Todd talking about like he's going to take a reflective time during the day and then trying to really let the feeling soak in and kind of hang out with the idea that he did achieve a lifelong dream. You know, and I do think there's an aspect that that's just always going to be cool. Anytime you're 60 years old, you're 40 years old, you're 20 years old, watching people achieve what they strive and work hard for something that's always fun. But he didn't seem like he was going to take that big of a moment. And I didn't know how honest he was being in that insane that because I think it's just being incredibly hard. Not to, I don't know, kind of take inventory of all the people that helped you along the way. I think you just got a power down until after the game. And then just not
I think after it and then just after the game, you go ahead and love all the emotions. The game goes poorly. Just we pissed about the game. You know, I give the game goes poorly. Then you're not even going to be thinking about the idea that it was your first NFL games. I had coach. You're repissed about the 75 ways that it went wrong. I think I'll have time to go ahead and get getting those feelings out. But we're going to try something new here. I don't know if I've ever played a little game. We're going to do something called lock it in. And so Mark got you the music. So what we do is we're going to have Mark got you because we have a different opinion of the Browns in their final record this year. You've got them being a six win team. I've got them as an eight win team. It's a really have Mark. Coach tell us the each of the games starting in week one and this gave us the spread. And then we're going to see if we can agree on whether that's a Browns win or a Browns loss. If we both lock it in. I want to see how many at the end of this. We both lock in. Okay, but hold on, but the rules on this though. Did the spread. We're not playing against the spread. We're playing against that straight up. Okay. And also, have you already chosen your eight wins? No, I have not. That's a problem. Yeah. I think we'll find a maybe with more. That's a problem. Yeah, wait, I thought we were trying to hit what our
season prediction is, right? Like this is not. I don't think so. This is a thought exercise to see. I already chose my six wins. They surprised myself. I chose my I chose my six wins. I thought you were choosing your eight wins. And then maybe we're doing some bartering. Maybe there's like, should I change this one here? Should I not change this one here? Listen, Bumslayer. You can do how you want to do I'm not the Bumslayer Julian Sayon is potential. If you want to slice some bum, you can slice some bum. Oh, really? Drake May is the Bumslayer. Kirk Cousins was the Bumslayer. Drake May is now the Bumslay. Thoughts to Mrs. May. Yeah, let's go and get started there, Mark. I'll try to push you for your first time running a bit on the show. What would you pick like 11 wins for this team? No, looks like I'm a better fan than you. Just why did you just find out? No, the point is the point is not the point is when you and I talk about it, yeah, whether there's overlap. All right, well, I got my six. Okay, I wish you would have had your eight. Maybe I do. Maybe I'm lying. There we go. All right, let's go. All right, let's go, Mark. All right, obviously you all know week one. We've talked about it at length this week. It is Browns at the Jaguars.
Jaguars favored by eight and a half points. I have this as a win. All right, I have this one as a loss. All right, we don't really need to relitigate this because we talked about this all day. We'll do all so we're just not going to lock that one in. So let's move to week two. All right, break two Browns at the Bucking years. That is a six and a half points bread in favor of Tampa. I have this as a loss. I also have this as a loss. Our first lock it in. Come on. All right, we're walking in for mostly because I don't think there's a chance that the Browns are going to start two and O on the road. I also think I think Baker Mayfield at home early in the season with a healthy Tampa Bay team is something we should all fear. And so yeah, I think I think this is going to be a tough game. I think it should be a close game, by the way. What's the line on it, by the way? Six and a half, Baker. Baker at some point will get fat and happy on this contract. It won't be week two. And that man lives with revenge on the mind always. And so I think he's going to have an awesome game. And I'm worried about it. And I don't think we'll be able to match it. I know quarterback. So we say things like, you know, it's hey,
listen, love you. But you know, it's not me versus the other quarterback. I guarantee you in Baker's mind, it is Baker versus the other. Now if you told Browns fans, which one would they, if they're going to get one win out of the two, it's Tampa Bay not even close. I'd rather a week one win. I just disagreed. I know what you're saying. I get there's enough for people, a Baker detractors or they just don't want to lose to Baker. I don't want to lose to Baker. And it's all it's rubbing it in if Baker's the one that wins. And they'd much rather choose a week two win against Tampa than a week one winning against him. Next step, Mark Koch. Hey, week three, the home opener, Browns hosting the Carolina Panthers. Panthers are favored in this one. It's slim, though, only one and a half. Browns win this one. Yeah, I went back and forth on this one. This is one that I really wanted to give the Browns a win. I didn't want the season to start. Oh, in three, I still think to Sean, I'll be the quarterback at this point, though. Carolina is not the greatest team in the world, but they're good enough. And I think Carolina gets the win. Okay. I wish we had the set, Trombone. That was sad. Everything in life was really sad. Like if every time a life would be so much bearable,
if every time you had some sort of a failure, there was just an audible. No, it made me want to turn around and hit whoever was doing the. No, just be a sound effect. There wouldn't be a guy following you around with a Trombone. Oh, because a sound effect makes more sense. If I had bleep you money, a sound effect coming from the air makes more sense. If I'd bleep you money, yeah, I would pay somebody to be somebody sad Trombone. Did you do the Peter Griffin? Yeah. Oh my God. That'd be a good bit. All right. Next up week four Thursday night football Browns alone prime time game of the year, they host the Pittsburgh Steelers Steelers favored by two and a half on the road. I wanted this one for the Browns real bad. I really did. I said to myself, if you're playing eight teams that I consider to be awful, you got to win half of those. You're going to win with something in the division as well. I wanted this to be the one Thursday night football. Can't do it. So you know what I don't trust and do it. I don't trust the short week. I think that's more what I'm concerned about, especially for a team that's still working through an
injury at right guard. I'm assuming Kevin Jenkins is just permit injured and in a team that'll be two and one. I I'm feeling that the Steelers might struggle out of the gate because I think they're old and mid. So this might be a game they need more than you too. I have no belief in the Steelers. I really don't, but I think Aaron Rogers is going to be better than maybe what some expect. And I just got them. I can't do it. I do. I'm sorry. I don't love it. I got to get to my six win somehow, but it's not going to be in the first four weeks. You're both taking a loss. Yeah. No, no, no, no. By the way, I also, we are. We are. And I also have to show on Watson being the quarterback in this entire stretch too. So that also is weighing pretty heavily in some of this. Now maybe after week four is maybe where he gets benched. All right. So I don't know in this hypothetical. I don't know. Yeah, you don't know. I'm not going to see a trend here. The bottom zone very quickly. Don't know what we're getting to six. We're not kidding. It's 12. I'm Michael. All right. Week five on the road. Browns at the Jets Jets two and a half point favorites. Give me the browns. Lock it in. Yeah, we'll take the browns. The Jets are booty cheeks. And it is under.
I think it's, I don't think we're talking enough about how I think the Jets are going to have a top three pick this next year. Isn't that what everyone is talking about? No, I, I mean, it's it's Jets dolphins. Cardinals us. Jeremy Fowler in his very, very thoughtful idea about how the Browns could surprise people. Also said the Jets and it made me a wrench. Yeah, I did. A did he was going crazy for the Jets. Now she's doing the Jets game week one. So there's got to be something attached to that. But she believes strongly in the Jets and people sleeping on the idea that it's Geno. It's Garrett Wilson. It's Breeze Hall. You can understand why at least there's pieces to like. I don't necessarily think because they add Demario Davis. Love Demario Davis. But I an old Demario Davis. The defense is going to be anything to write home about. They're going to be one of the worst teams in the NFL. That's where the Browns get on the board from me first. Six game week six Baltimore comes to town playing the Browns. Obviously Baltimore favored by six and a half on the road. We're going to agree on this one, right? Yeah. Okay. Yeah. We don't even. Okay. Let's go to seven. I want to talk about anymore. Hit the wrong sound. It doesn't matter. Week seven. What was that?
What's that sound? That was the wrong answer. Okay. That was when you guys disagree. Week seven Browns on the road. They're at Tennessee Titans opening at two and a half point favorites. K.P. Give me the brown. Look at that. I also have the Browns. Yeah. Yeah. I think camwards going to be booty cheeks again to use your phrase. I think he's going to absolutely stink up the joint. I love a lobby. I love there's things I like about Tennessee. I actually, it's funny because I, I like Robert Salah and Dave. Well, I think that connection's actually got a chance to be decent. It's camwards going to sink or swim this thing. And I think he's going to sink it. I think Robert Salah should not have gotten a second job as a head coach. I think this is a laughable decision. Dave will actually does give camward a chance. I think people forgotten. They really lack a lot of talent. They are, they are like, I don't even know their year two of a rebuild around camward. They got the quarterback first. And I think they're another year at least away from, from being where they need to be. Yeah. I just don't think they're a particularly good team. And it camward part of this. It just, it just kind of, it just kind of scares me a little bit.
I think I said a lot of them at Carnot Tate, obviously. I think I said a lot. You did. I don't know why I'm going to correct you. And I know why Ohio State receivers, but it is what it is. All right. Next. Sorry. Week eight for the second time this year. Browns and the Steelers this time in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh six point favorites at home. I hate this because it means you're going to go Owen too, but I have an L. I also have an L. We really locked it in on the same games, by the way. Since I know, I mean, we are, I thought I'd own lock it in. They're not. Well, I started Owen for, but we agreed on the two losses. We agree on the, on, we've agreed on every game in the second quadrant of the season. Yeah. Well, you know how they love these quadrants. Big quadrant guys. All right. A lot of football people are. Week nine, Browns back on the road. They're in New Orleans against the Saints. New Orleans three and a half my favorite. Give me the bronze. This is where I take, I take the Browns for this. Hey, this is Richard Dijk, the host of the Sports Media podcast. If you're interested in what's happening with all the places where you consume sports,
the Sports Media podcast has you covered. I've been turning down interviews all week. Oda copy reached out. Oprah, George Stephanopolis. So I said no, I was booked on the Dijk podcast before the Taylor Swift phenomenon. I must live up to my responsibility. Listen wherever you get your podcasts. One, two, I have the Browns losing this game. This just feels like the random middle of the season. What are we doing game? And I don't know why I feel like it. I just as soon as I saw the game, I thought to myself, you're going to lose. Yeah, I had to give them one game. That was, they're not expected to win. There's not going to ever really be a line that happens where they are expected to win. I think New Orleans is a better team, but you can, you can beat a team that you're not supposed to be better than a couple times a year. I think this is one of those games. Michael turbo mode. All right, week 10. They're at home against the Texan's Texans for and a half. Yeah, this is now. That's a no. That's a no.
All right, week 11 after a by week, Browns hosting the Raiders. Browns are favored in this one by a point and a half. Give me the bronze. This is a big win. This is a big, big, big, big boon. Yeah, give me the bronze. All right. All right. Next, Browns still at home. They play the Bengals for the first time. Bengals favored by four and a half. JP. Oh, it's now. That's, that's a no. They're not being the Bengals once this year. So are they? Stay tuned. Stay tuned. We're getting by. I don't know. We actually agreed this is an L because it is on the road in, I'd this December, right? This is the first December game. December six. Yeah, don't love that. Don't love that one at all. Okay. All right, they're still at home. The last of four straight at home. They play Kevin Stafansky in the Falcons. Browns once again favored by a point and a half. Yeah, give me the browns. Give me the browns. Yeah, yeah. Kind of like Hulk Hogan on the cocaine and they got. Yeah, we're adding more to it too, as we get. All right. Next up, Browns back to the road. They play the Giants. Giants favored by four and a half. Give me the Browns. I think the, I think the Giants are by this time the Giants will be
tanking for the next quarterback. I don't think that's a good team. I mean, maybe Jackson Dark's injured by that point. Scatiboo definitely injured by that point. But I'm taking Harball. I'm taking the Giants. I think they'll be competitive this year. All right. All right, Browns on the road. Again, over Christmas this time, they're in Baltimore against the Ravens biggest spread of the year for the Browns. Ravens favored by 10 points at home. That's it's an out. It's an out. All right. Last home game of the year. Colts and the Browns. Browns are underdogs two and a half to the Colts. Mm. JP, it's going to be an out. Yeah. The Colts will be playing. Well, I guess technically they won't be playing for they don't have a first run pick. Give me the dub. All right. And then finally, we keep team Browns at the Bengals since an out. He opening minus seven and a half. Give me the Browns. That's how we got. Yeah, they lose this one. It's going to be the, I mean, it's the, the Bengals will be resting everybody. They'll be resting everybody. This will not be a very competitive game, but it'll matter for the Browns and the Browns will win. The Bengals will
be playing for the division and playing for playoff seating and the Browns will be playing for like eighth place. We actually did have I was shocked. I thought this I thought we would actually have let one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11, 11 games we agreed upon. Now the question is did the bit work 216 474 0092 that was lock it in when we come back. The Jose Ramirez conversation we don't care really have, but we got to have it in five minutes on 92 three, the fan. In case you missed it coming up in about 20 minutes here on the show, Nick and JP back with you. The time, Monkin show coming up at seven o'clock tonight, but it's interesting. You don't see baseball beat reporters right headlines like this often, but is is the guardos move on to hopefully a series they can win Paul Hoynes wrote the headline that
basically implies that Jose Ramirez is hurting the Guardians right now and he could be the reason they missed the playoffs. The headline was we will compromised Jose Ramirez cost guardians post season spot and it I think he's just not the guy to ever write that headline. You know, I mean, he might not have to that might just be that you know, either they have somebody that comes up with the headlines, but it's going off of what his commentary was in the article, right? And in the article, uh, you make a pretty damn in case all things considered. I mean, if you go through what J. Ram has a really the lack of production, he's got four RBI since August 25th, they all came in one game. And his last nine games, Nick, he's five for 36, no extra bass hits, no RBI's in that stretch. I there's there's no denying that we're playing with a less than Jose Ramirez. The question is whether or not the guardians should still be playing a less than Jose Ramirez. I think we've talked enough about J. Ram. I think I know where you're going with this and I think we're in lockstep and that you continue to play J. Ram. Maybe though, it's not the worst idea to maybe play a little bit of a looser schedule with J. Ram. The difference when, you know,
we had we started having this conversation about four weeks ago. And at the time, my answer was you want to see more Gabe Aureus? Uh, since then, uh, now has come up and really started to play really well and teased a lot of potential. And Schneeman is also back. And yet my answer hasn't changed. My, my big rebuttal four weeks ago was, well, who are you going to play there? Yep, nobody. You have guys now, but I don't understand. I, I, God bless the guardians fans that are doing this. But to the guardians fans that simply can't look at what Jose Ramirez is doing and playing hurt and playing and he came back too soon. I think we know that now from the hammock bone injury. Yeah. And instead of saying you're playing like garbage. Get out of here. I don't know how you can't just say thank you, Jose. Um, that guy is giving this town his absolute heart and soul. And him playing through injury. This isn't about ego like it is for some guys. He's doing it
because he's going out there to try and give his best every single day because that's how much he cares about this team in this town. And the idea that we've gotten to a point is a society where we're just such zero sum about every single thing on this planet that we can't just say thank you, Jose. I, again, I think it's a vocal minority of guardians fans, but it drives me up the stink and wall. So what's interesting about this is that I think in most situations, if the guardians had a playoff spot locked up, you can make an, oh, you can make an argument. Be like, all right, sit on for two or three weeks and just see if it helps at all. You know, see it then you get them to the post season and then you can, you can really go, but the guardians guardians aren't locked in for the post season. You know, like this next three, three weeks to side your everything as far as the season is concerned. And so it really does become a real tug and pull. What's interesting is how they're very cautious with the water and rightfully so. And I would imagine that means that with J. Ram, J. Ram is the one telling them that I want to be out in the field. Yeah. I would imagine they would be cautious with J. Ram. If J. Ram was instructing them to be
cautious, he's not. And because he's not, he's earned it through the years that he's been here, he's earned the right to say, I'm ready to play and I want to play. And I think it's something you can accept. There's been this weird turn and I maybe at social media, maybe it's being readily available or having access to everyone's thoughts. So you see more, you know, a cornucopia of thoughts in sports. We used to love in sports when a guy was out there playing hurt and giving his and playing his guts out for for his team. And there was an understanding of like that guy is putting it all in the line. He doesn't feel well, but he's giving us everything he can. And then the first time I noticed it in Cleveland that this is this was not unanimous was Baker. In Baker in 2021, where people looked at and said, no, you're hurting the team, get off the field. And I looked at it and again, I was in Charlotte, but I looked at and saying that guy looks like he barely move is restricted because of that brace. And he's out there every week running around,
taking shots holding on to the ball too long. I love that from players in Jose to me. They're like the Baker thing I understood because he is, he's Baker. And he was a lightning rod for a lot of people. I thought Jose was safe, safe harbor. No, so here's the, I think the difference here though. And this is where I'll give Guardians fans a lot of credit. I think when watching these games, I think you're seeing something out of Jose that you typically don't see, which is, and this was evident, Hoynes pointed this out in his article. You watched that game last night and you saw the, you saw the error at third base that happened and J. Ram hung his head after the game or after the, the error, you know, obviously a home run happened, you know, next that bat and that is what that is. But like we don't see J. Ram do that. That's not how J. Ram operates. He's always happy. Go lucky. He makes a bad play. He's not one to put his head down and kind of really, I don't know, a pound about it. And so like I think there's a, there's a frustration that is obvious that is built up within J. Ram because he's not performing. And so where I look at this, is I almost feel like these are the Guardians fans that are trying to almost protect J. Ram. And being like, we're seeing the struggles. We're seeing how this is going. We're seeing you act
in an uncharacteristic way. Like maybe, maybe we need to recognize that this is a lot. This is hurting you more than it is anything else. Listen, everybody has different, different reads. And we're probably not looking to the same tweets and the same whatever. There's a crocodile tears to me. And then not from Jose. I mean, from people being like, do it for Jose. I want to make the playoffs in the worst way this year. I shouldn't even say that. I want to, I want to make the playoffs really bad this year because who knows in a really down year in the American league, I, you might be able to win a playoff series. And I think that'd be a massive win for a team that has been 500 most of the year. And it's played some really dog butt baseball in a couple really bad stretches this year. I want to do with Jose. And, and, and you know, it's funny. Like my reaction to Jose hanging his head the other night was like, that's my third basement. Like that's my guy. That guy is really struggling out there. And he's putting his heart on the line. I just just don't think that makes me proud. I know. But it's so different than typical Jose. That, that I think is the, what stood out in that moment is you realize, don't we typically don't see him
do that? You realize how hard it is. I'm not saying you. I know you know how you watch a lot of sports and you, you understand the psychological part of this. But like watching somebody who is that guy have him like he's, he's a little beaten down right now. And I listen. I think that's, I think that's what a lot of people are sensing right now. Not only are you seeing it with these at bats, these at bats are, I mean, the power is absolutely gone. And he's not coming. You're leaving a lot of men on base when you're batting in the two spot or the three spot. It's been the three spot in the stretch. And just, and just not getting the job done the way that he has. Listen, if this thing's going to come down to one game, which it likely is, if that one game is a game that Jose loses you, I'm comfortable not being in the playoffs. If this was the, if this was the, the guardians have to have, by the way, and that's the mentality I think they should have. Is that any like J Ram? He means so much to this organization that if he's struggling through this, you just got to, you got to bear it out with them. And if the idea is that you missed the postseason, well, you're not, you're not fighting for this postseason more than anything. You're fighting for years beyond. And part of why J Ram took the discount that he did and is saved with Cleveland the way
he does for so long is because he trusted this organization is when he says I'm ready to play, they're going to play him and they're not going to jerk him around. Jose Ramirez to me is the, is one of the rare things that we ever get in sports. I think Baker would have eventually gotten there, by the way, with enough success. I think, I think Joe Thomas got to this level in spite of a lack of team success when he played here. There's very few athletes you'll ever hear in me say, I think are untouchable. Meaning if Jose Ramirez wants to drag himself out there at third base, and he makes errors and he hits a buck 90 for the rest of the way, and he is part of why you don't make the playoffs. I'm sorry. I'm simply going to look Jose Ramirez in the face and say, thank you. Because I can't imagine for a guy who is as happy you mentioned. I don't know what I'm saying. Thank you, but I just accept it. I don't know when you feel like crap. Maybe, maybe, maybe succulent. I know you love them. I do love is succulent. I do go only so far in the conversation. I'm not
going to be like, thanks, thanks for, not me. Thanks for giving an attempt. I probably would have been like, well, all right, you battled. I appreciate it against the battle part of this. But I, it's, I mean, it's such a top spot for everybody involved. Jaram clearly wants to play. That's why he's out there. But he is a clearly different ball player and has been for a month now. And that's not even debate. I won't even debate it. You're right. By the way, it's not debatable. Jose is not playing good baseball right now. But if Jose, if Jose wants to go out there and support his teammates, because I don't think it's just about, Jose wants to go in and he wants to find it. Like, I'm sure that's a part of this now. He wants to prove to himself that he can do this. I'm sure that is. Jose is out there because he wants to be there for his teammates. And I think he wants to be, you know, he takes, I think this is a guy who buys into being the face of the franchise. That's why he signed two contracts here. And I, I, I, I, I know this is, I never say this about anyone. But I take immense pride in watching that guy fight those demons every day. And I will hope
until the last possible second this year that he puts it together. I will. If it's just one, four for four game that puts you over the hump to get you into the playoffs in game 162. I'm hope, I'm going to hope that until he either asks out, they either send him down or he actually has that game. I know it's just it's odd though. I mean, even like he's not, he's not stealing bases the way that he typically does, which the handmade bone should not have affected. He's also, I got even like the, the error we had yesterday in that game. I mean, I, I understand one of the crimes of J. Ram's career is he hasn't won a gold glove. Oddly enough, but he's a very good defensive third baseman. And that's taking a lapse. And then I can't even begin to describe how bad he's been offensively. And so I'm with you. I give him, I, you just, you ride the pony that got you here and J. Ram did that for so many years. That is what that is. But it's, it's pretty painful to watch. It's very evident that he is not, he's just not the same player with this injury. 216 474 0092. And Nick Wilson says, add J Peterlin on social media. Do you want to bench
Jose Ramirez? I have stopped myself multiple times from respect. I try not to respond to somebody has a sports opinion that is a negative one. And then I react to it because we only have between 140 and 280 characters. And also like, I like to use social media and I have fun. I want to bring back fun Twitter, right? That's good. It's gone. I think. Yeah. It might be going well. I mean, I'd like to eradicate a fair amount of Twitter. But I'd like to just keep the fun. I missed the fun. In case you missed it in five minutes on 92, three, the fan. On Reddit, true crime doesn't come from journalists. It comes from the victims, the witnesses, and sometimes the suspects themselves. Every Tuesday on Crimes of Reddit, we read these posts out loud. I'm Sabrina Deanna Roge, and I'm Alexis Linkletter. One of us brings the story. The other goes in blind, reacting in real time, just like you. New episodes dropped every Tuesday. Listen to and follow Crimes of Reddit, available now wherever you get your podcasts.
