Offense, walking millions eyes, only square through runs, kind of a weird night. But the magic numbers sound a sub in. The fillies are very likely to make the playoffs, even if they haven't played good baseball. In the month of September, so now all eyes are on, where they're going to be seated, and where they're going to play. And I think my gut instinct on this has been for about a month that they're going to end up in Chicago for the Wildcard series in Rikli. So we'll see where that goes over the next week. But one thing I want to talk about today, and I think it's it's appropriate for this game for a lot of reasons.

It's also appropriate to talk about for off of the first game and what's being said. And the question in my mind is, is Jail and Carter ready to dominate again? Because I said this a lot as we discussed the idea of the Eagles resigning Jail and Carter, which they did. And they made him, you know, the High Spade Defense Tackle and Pro Football. And that's done, you know, what is what is done is done. And they believe in him. And they believe in him from Draftite and they've been rewarded with that. And I trust the Eagles decision-making when it comes to this kind of stuff. But I've said this a lot the last few years, and I continue to say it, Jail and Carter has been great for one season in his career. Just one, that was 2024. He was good. Very good. At times in 2023 is a rookie. At times it felt like we thought he was going to win defensive rookie of the year. He fell off towards the end of the season, but he had a very good rookie season. He was great in 2024, helping the Eagles win the Super Bowl without his sack of Matthew Stafford, by the way, is a chapter in my book. You know, what if he doesn't sack Matthew Stafford there in the division around against the Rams? He did, though. And he was excellent. And he dominated.

And he was consistent. And it was, that was the version of this player that the Eagles thought could be there. And the drafted and outpaid. Last year I didn't think he was very good. I thought he was a liability against the run of times. I thought that he just disappeared throughout portions of the game last year too often. And I questioned what was going on there. Was it injury? Was it his conditioning? What was the deal last year with Jail and Carter? And then you go to week one. And the highlight splash play is the block extra point, which was a great play in the game for the Philadelphia Eagles. But as the tape dogs have kind of started to chime in years, the week has gone on. Yesterday Brian Baldinger on the afternoon show did not have a high praise for Jail and Carter's effort in game in game number one. And then Greg Cosell inside the birds who's been watching film and NFL films for years and years

did not think that Jail and Carter was there. And in fact, it kind of said he was a little bit visible for a lot of the game. And he was handled by the offensive line for the Washington commanders. That can't be. And I don't want to hear the excuse. He's out of shape. I don't want to hear the excuse if the first game of the season. This is supposed to be a premium player, a premier player in the NFL. This isn't just a guy. In some guy trying to, you know, some fourth rounder, trying to make their way and trying to get this shape. This is Jail and Carter, the highest paid defensive tackle in the NFL. And he did not have a great game. I thought the defense was good as a unit, but Cooper did you need to play well? And now we found out he was banged up. Jail and Carter didn't play well. Now Jail and Carter mispractice just so with wrist injury. So now are we now dealing with a wrist? I don't know. I don't know. You know, injuries are starting to become part of the story now for Jail and Carter. Last year's shoulder, last year's heel. Now wrist. I don't know. I don't know what's going on there. And the other thing that I think is a fun in interesting juxtaposition is this weekend.

It's a two. It's really a two-part, fascinating game for Jail and Carter. Number one on the other side. So we're going to be watching those two, you know, simultaneous, the one and then they out one and then the other. You know, one of them will be on the field. Their unit will be on the field at all times. It's the guy who I actually think is the best defense attack on Pro Football. And that is Jeffrey Simmons. Jail and Carter, we like to say he is. We like to talk about it, but he's not. Jeffrey Simmons is the best defense attack on Pro Football. He wrecks games. He plays consistently well. Now he's my rather bad team, bad franchise. Just rudderless right now. But he's an awesome football player. And he will play and play hard and play well down. Down he gets to go feast on or try to feast on an interior of the Eagles offensive line. That is a lot of question marks right now. Okay, Pam Jurg is going to play great and we have won. If I was to just okay. And of course now, you know, a new left guard. I'm guessing projecting thinking it's going to be Drew Kendall. White ball played really well in the preseason. Jordan Davis told us that training camp this year he was the guy. He was the one that stood out the most to him during training camp. So, but it's an uncertain and unproven and, you know,

question mark filled interior of the offensive line for the Philadelphia. So I expect Jeffrey Simmons to play well on the other side. There's an equal part fascination here. Because you might remember you might not. I was not all about drafting, Dylan Carter. I wasn't. I thought there were too many red flags. I thought the effort I didn't love that he was half the in half out. Effort once in a while. I didn't love the profile of the player. Coming out of the NFL draft. And I like the Lions like the Seahawks would have passed on him. I wouldn't have taken him. Now, the talent's there. And I guess you could say I've proven to have been wrong, right? He goes when it's football, jail and Carter, they've resigned him. He's been awesome. But the player I wanted at that time was Peter Skaronsky, the guard at an Northwestern. The tackle at an Northwestern has become a guard in the NFL. I thought he was a camp minister thing. And I think he has been really good. Now, Carter's been the better NFL player. But Skarons, he just got a four-year $100 million contract. He's a really good football player.

And he's kind of lost their intent to see on a bad unit. He's the best line man they have. He's a really good football player. I think he's going to be a really high-level starting guard for a long time. This isn't a Skaronsky versus Carter thing. If you want to say he was the better player, I acknowledge. Carter's been the better player. But the more consistent the player last couple of years, has been Peter Skaronsky. And now they get to go head-to-head for the first time in the NFL career. And I'm not going to walk in on Monday. When I told yourself Skaronsky handles jail and Carter, but I will pay attention to it. And this is a game that Joe and Carter should rock. But last week we said that. Last week we said that Joe and Carter should rock the game. That he's going up against only O and O K or below average or, you know, in a lot of rankings. The one of the worst off-fets of lines in the NFL, he should handle it. He should dominate. And he didn't. And I think he's getting a little bit of a pass because of a splash plan, especially which he's very good at by the way. He's very good at it. He's excellent at blocking kicks. The Eagles didn't pay him $35 million a year to block field goals and extra points.

They did not. They paid him $35 million a year to affect play to play 80% of the snaps on the defensive side. And they just were far too many plays where he didn't affect last week. He just didn't. And I thought there were more splash plays and more dominated plays by Jordan Davis, certainly by Mora Ojomo, who continues to work as Ass-Off. Ojomo is an excellent, excellent player and an even better story from the Sempatron Pick. I just think effort-wise, Ojomo brings it more that Carter does. Now, Carter's got some more physical tools than Ojomo does. That's why he was a top 10 pick and Mora Ojomo was a seventh run pick. But I'll tell you what. In terms, if I was a coach and I was grading, Ojomo gets a higher grade for me than Ojomo Carter. And I don't know. Carter's hard for me to read. I can't figure out what it is. Is Carter constantly banged up and we're starting to deal with that as part of his story? Maybe. Is he lazy? Maybe? Does he just get away on God-given talent? Maybe. But then you hear Bill say that he puts the work in. He's worked out better this off season. So that doesn't speak to laziness at all. I don't know. Does he have a low motor? Is he at a shape? I don't know the answer to any of these gentleman Carter things. I know this though. The equals pay them to dominate. And he better be ready to start dominating because that's a lot of money they gave him. And whether or not I question it, you question everybody else question it. That's not germane to this. What is germane to the story now is how he will play, how he will perform,

and what the Philadelphia Eagles will be on the defensive side of the football with him as their star defensive tackle. That is now the story. It has to be the story. It will remain the story. And for the Eagles, the only path now to excellence on defense revolves around Jalen Carter. There's no other way now. There's no other path to excellence on the defensive side without Jalen Carter playing really well. He's not, he's not on his rookie contract. He's not trying to earn any more. He's earned it. They paid him. And now he has to go out there and perform at an extremely high level, extremely high. Otherwise, the Philadelphia Eagles are going to be in a major, major pickle. And it's very hard to kind of reset the path to dominance on defense without him. Because once you pay someone that much money and look, they've made, they've made decisions here on a lot. News Shoes, new clothes, brand new grade.

Whether you're looking for an SUV, a truck, a hybrid, or an EV, LACarGuy.com is the perfect place to find your next car. Out of these guys, I mean, they made decisions on Carter. They've made decisions on Davis. They're about a year away from making a decision on Mitchell on Dejean. Once you decide on these guys, you've really got to go all in and say, this, this, we're building this around that. And we need them to be on the field for an enormous amount of time. And I'm looking over the next couple of weeks. I mentioned the Titans game. It's an interesting perspective because the Skronk thing, Simmons on the other side, it's really a fascinating kind of look at where this different timelines are all together. They're all converging.

But let's look forward here. The next couple of weeks, the Eagles are going to face teams that, that Jell-A-Carter has some not so good and some very good history against. Let's start with the good. That would be a couple weeks from now that the Los Angeles Rams will come to town for a huge game in week four. A couple of years ago, we know the Rams, we know what happened. He sacked Matthew Stafford. And you know, Sean McBase could have spent all day in the lab trying to make sure Jell-A-Carter does not do that again. And then you have the other game. And that was the Black Friday game last year here in Philadelphia, the game in which the Eagles decided afterwards. They had to put Jell-A-Carter on the shelf because his shoulders were so bad. Let's get a little procedure here and try to make this better. He got bullied in that game. He got beat up in that game by Ben Johnson's scheme and the Bears offends him. And they pushed him around and ran the ball down the Eagles throat. And guess what? Ben Johnson's arrogant enough to think he s going to do it again. That guy has arrogance oozing at him. And from one perspective, you want it to be humble. The other you're just admiring it. Like this guy just thinks he's going to

just destroy the NFL week by week, play by play. And Jell-A-Carter is here to stop that. So the next few weeks are incredibly fast-safe for Jell-A-Carter. And I just continue to ask, is he rated a dominate? And he's ready to do it again. Because one year doesn't make a career. It doesn't make a career. And the last couple years now or last year and in the first game this year, it's been a very pedestrian Jell-A-Carter. That's not the guy they paid for. And if they want that guy to be, well, then they got to get him healthy in shape or push him. Because there's something not right at this point, which we're a Jell-A-Carter isn't his career. And if he's going to be the son of the moon, the stars of this defense, and worth all the money they pay them, then they need more. Absolutely need more. And he's got to be dominant. And I'd love to see it. I'd love to, I'd love to feel like, you know what? I read it wrong. Talent always wins out. It's not just about work ethic and personality and football character. It's about the talent. I would love to feel that

on Sunday night or Sunday at 4.30 when I turn the TV off or go to Red Zone or go to the game in the week. I would love to feel that. But of course, Jell-A-Carter. Of course, Jell-A-Carter was the correct pick over Peter Skaronsky all those years ago. Of course, there's no doubt about it. Of course, Jell-A-Carter, that was crazy to want Peter Skaronsky. I would love to feel that. I would love to have that, that, you know, to call myself out on this show next week. I'll do it in the five guys. I'll do it on the air. I would love it. But a part of me feels like Carter, especially in this heat on Sundays, was between 95, like a real feel of 107 in Tennessee on Sunday. A part of me feels like this is going to be a tough night for Jell-A-Carter. And it's going to be one of those views. Sit back and you say, man, and it's Jell-A-Carter all right. Is he going to be the guy they need to do this season? Is he going to be that guy? I don't know it. You don't know it. But boy, oh boy, do they need it? They need it in the worst possible way coming up on Sunday

against the Tennessee Tides. I appreciate everyone listening, subscribing, following the podcast, our YouTube feed is 94WIP. Check it out there. We've got a lot to talk about on the mid-day show.
