About this episode

“Losing weight can become a full-time job if you let it. And after a while, all that thinking about it can be exhausting. That's why I like the idea of having actual support instead of trying to figure everything out by yourself.”From the transcript

Vice President JD Vance appeared on the podcast All-In this week and was asked what his message is to voters in November. He claimed many successes in this current Trump administration, somehow, but he also asked voters for "another chance." Not sounding very confident, Mr. VP. Also, the Jasmine Crockett/Chris Brown story has blown up, with the singer calling out Rep. Venton Jones for appearing on this show to apologize for joining Crockett on stage. We have a few great guests to break this all down. 🍋

I know people call it my Boomer music, but I love that music. It grows on you, right? Welcome. I saw someone. I see you in the chat talking about lemon late. Okay. Liking thumbs up. I don't want to tell you guys that every day. Folks in the chat, tell people to put the thumbs up. Can you guys, can you be my correspondence? Can you be my correspondence and reporters and producers out in the field? You're my guys. So thank you so much for joining us this evening. We are happy that you are here. Now I'm just going about my business. And then I said that some people, let me know where you are, right? Virginia, I see you guys. I'm just going about my business. And then sometimes some people just choose violence.

I was like, why? Why? Why? Come on JD Vans. So I don't. JD Vans. Out stomping and tapping for votes today. Doing his best to try to jump up some support for himself in the upcoming election and the right wingers in this election. He said we need four more years or whatever. Wait a minute. Are you running for president now? And so anyway, I started to think like this guy, does this guy have no self awareness? My question is to you. You tell me. Is JD Vans the worst president in American history? Is he? Anybody know? Wait, let me see. Hold on. Where are the dogs? Dogs. Hey. Anybody? Is JD Vans the worst president? Is nobody here today? Everybody's working from home. Wait a minute. No, no.

You're here. I didn't see you over there. Is JD Vans the worst vice president in American history? Let me name. Come on. This is no both sides, whatever. JD Vans, you do not get a participation trophy just because you're the vice president. And you guys always know that God, this guy, irks me so much because he's all I knew him before. No, no, no, no, he would come on the shelf. He's such a suit. He is the epitome of a stuffed suit. Sometimes just listen to him. What he says doesn't make sense. He doesn't answer the questions. He just talks fast. He just says a lot. You ask him a question and he goes, which is a skill in itself? You ask him a question and he goes, well, speaking on behalf of the such and such, I want to tell you about what we've been doing on Capitol Hill and changing the course of American history and the trajectory of this country. We deserve a second chance because under Trump's policies and under our policies, we have

done far better than what Biden did and Biden was so awful, terrible for this country. There was no leadership. With the stewardship of Donald Trump as president, he doesn't say any fucking thing at all. And he wants to be president. He's a bullshit artist. This is a man who once warned America about his own boss. He called him an idiot. He called him reprehensible. Now, this is a JD Vance that I knew. This is JD Vance 0.1.0. Or I don't know if it's 1.0. Maybe it's because he changes like he changes his name, he changes his religion, he's changed his outlook on politics. He just, he's just changed. So what does that mean? Stuff suit. That's it. He has no convictions. He called Donald Trump reprehensible. He even asked whether Trump was good. Become America's shitler. That's what he said. You know the word I'm saying because you know that they don't like it when you just say

the word. You can even say shit, but shitler and anyways. And now and now. Well, he follows Trump around like a human apology department. He defends every single failure, every single lie. He sanitizes every outrage and telling all of us not to believe our own damn eyes. Sometimes you got to, what I mean? Maybe JD Vance needs to wipe his eyes. Maybe he needs to be the eyeliner from his eyes. I don't know. Maybe he just can't see. You're not saying straight. Is it the eyeliner? What is it? I mean, that allegedly JD Vance, JD Vance. By the way, what's his real name? Does he mind? I forget what it's called. I forget what his real name is. JD Vance. The JD Vance was in college who dressed up in drag. The JD Vance who wrote Hill Billyology.

The JD Vance who called Donald Trump. Shitler. The JD Vance. Iline Earth. The JD Vance of the alleged, I don't know, maybe is he on a JLP one, I don't know, but anyways, because I saw what was that bandity fair? Was it bandity fair? Somebody had a chunky photo of him. I was like, whoo, JLP one, maybe I don't know. Fair is your spine, JD. Where's the man who grew up under difficult working class circumstances? A childhood in middle to Ohio. Do you remember what you wrote? This is in your book, JD. You said, for kids like me, the part of the brain that deals with stress and conflict is always activated. We are constantly ready to fight or flee because there is a constant exposure to the bear. Whether that bear is an alcoholic dad or an unhinged mom, and that was on page 228.

Oh, so I see the conflict and I run away or I prepare for battle. That was on page 246. But it seems as though I think you have been replaced by shameless political salesmen who will say anything, a shameful political salesman who will say anything will excuse anything, will defend anything as long as it keeps you close to power. JD. Guess what? Guess what? I'm going to say the quiet part out loud. JD Vance, MAGA doesn't like you as much as you think. Even Donald Trump, even Donald Trump is not convinced that you're going to do a good enough

job. Even Donald Trump. Don't believe me? Okay. I want you to take a look at this. I'm a great job. I'm a beautiful. I got a beauty out there, JD. I envy you and other people. I don't know. Who's going to be? Is it going to be JD? Is it going to be somebody else? I don't know. Does anybody have, okay, let's go. You ready? Who likes JD Vance? Who likes Marco Rubio? All right. Sounds like a good ticket. JD. It's a perfect, that was a perfect ticket. By the way, I do believe that's a dream team. But these are minor details. That does not mean you have my endorsement under any circumstances. But you know, it's a perfect, it was big and then a very nice. I think it sounds like presidential candidate and vice presidential candidate.

Bruh. Man, not exactly a glowing endorsement there, buddy. JD. Who do you like? JD, I don't know. You're the vice supposed to be the next one. I was just making a joke. I know he wasn't. He was not. He doesn't like your ass and maggot doesn't like you either. Okay. I think they know that you're a stop suit and allegedly, allegedly, allegedly. The person behind a number of leaks. Again, that's alleged. Trump creates the chaos and you, Vance, you march at the end and you call it a success.

No matter what he says, even if he contradicts what you're saying, you call it a success. Where's your backbone, bro? The administration repeatedly fails and now you're demanding that American people give you and your Republican friends another chance. Okay. All right. All right. I'm going to play you a clip. It's from an interview that he gave a little earlier today. This is a thing that got my attention. That has me all animated and fired up like this today. Begging voters to vote for his party in the upcoming midterm elections. Listen to this. Immigration. We pursued H1B reform that prioritizes American workers over foreign nationals. There's a lot of good that's been done, but there's a lot of work left to do. Don't give power to the people who cause the problems that we're fixing. Give us another chance or give us another couple of years to continue to work on the amazing things that we've been doing for the past two years. And the... You guys ever know.

Not exactly not. So you guys know what a consulting firm is, right? You know what a consulting firm is. So consulting firms are the people who consult and they just create. They create the thing for you to become. They give you the roadmap. This is not necessarily the people who are there because the people who are there are usually pretty smart people that may be really creative people, but they're just whatever. It's like a deloitte or like he is who looked up a McKinsey consultant driven bread candidate or per... Blue BJD vans. No shade to the people there because that's your job to create the thing, to make the thing. And so without any convictions, he's the perfect candidate. It's almost like he is... He's not a feminist, he's a robot. He's an automaton. Right? We could say whatever. Do you guys remember broadcast news?

Do you guys remember that? The movie broadcast news with William Hurt and it... I think he said... Yeah. Do you remember broadcast news? And the guy... Really great journalist and just he was getting nervous and whatever. He says... And then the other guy who's pretty... Had a pretty empty head and was like, the producer could say anything in his head and he'd stood it out and whatever. And they're like, wow, he's a stop suit. So he is sat there. This is your media training today, sir. Yes, sir. What do I have to say? If you have someone asks you a question, you don't answer the question if you don't know the answer or if you don't want to. Pivot. Answer the question that you want to answer. Okay? Now let me ask you this, sir. You ready? Why don't we have affordable healthcare in this country, Mr. Vance? Well, the question isn't whether or not we have affordable healthcare. The question is the people we've had in place who could offer us that have not done their jobs and a good enough job doing it.

And if you elect me to be president, I will make sure that happens. Did he answer the question? No, by the way, that's the fat JD right there, I think. Are you kidding me? Another chance? Another chance to do what? To finish ruining everything that you missed the first time? Another chance? Really? You haven't even finished disappointing us with this one. Do you need more time to finish setting the building on fire? You're talking like Republicans just arrived in power. You are the vice president. You have had the White House. You have had the Congress. You've had the microphones. You've had the motorcades and executive orders to wallpaper of Mar-a-Lago. And that's a big joint. I just drove by it the other day when I was in Florida. But now that voters are looking around and asking, you know, what the hell is going on here? And now you suddenly want more time?

That's his job now. Trump makes the mess. And JD Vance comes running behind him with a mop. And his smug smile. Trump could drive the country through the front window of a Wendy's and Vance would appear on television saying, well, actually, this is the most efficient drive-through in American history. The drive-through should be in the front of the building or the side or wherever he did it. Nothing is ever their fault. The economy is struggling, blame Biden. Prices rise. Uh-huh. That was Kamala Harris. The administration creates chaos. You know, you need to blame the media. Or maybe it was Barack Obama. I don't know. Blame the media for reporting it. Blame the media for reporting it. That's about fake news. You don't ask any fair questions. It's always something. And if voters don't like the results well, apparently, the problem is that we haven't given them enough time to make things even worse. JD Vance, you do not need another chance.

If the American people ask for accountability, and all you do is give them endless piles of excuses, bullshit. It starts being a leader. Stop being so ambitious. Stop. Have some conviction. Have some principles. Some morals. America has endured corrupt vice presidents, uses vice presidents, and embarrassing vice presidents. But JD Vance, you made me something uniquely infuriating a man who knew exactly who Donald Trump was, and surrendered to him anyway. And now he won't even endorse you. JD, or Marco, I don't know. If you had me brain cells left, you'd remember how he treated his former vice president Mike Pence. And don't forget. Mike Pence was like they were threatening to off him. I'm just saying, even under those dire circumstances, he didn't stand behind his vice president.

Don't forget the greatest joke of all, which is that JD Vance once warned America. Most dog food brands don't really want you seeing how their food is made. Just food for dogs is the opposite. They actually invite you in. You can walk into any of their kitchens and see real human grade ingredients, like chicken, beef, carrots, and peas. Being prepared right in front of you. It's real food made in real kitchens. Nothing is hidden behind labels. And that kind of transparency says a lot. Nothing to hide. Everything to love. Go to justfoodfordogs.com and get 50% off your first order. I come out Donald Trump and now he spends every waking hour pretending Donald Trump has never made a mistake. Sometimes it's like a hostage video. You've had enough chances. You've had enough chances. Here's what he said last week. And the criminals given free reign over our great country.

And we were tired of being called racist for noticing that our country was becoming dirtier and poor and less safe and less prosperous. That's gross. And that wasn't a slip of the tongue. That was calculated. That was calculated to make Americans associate immigrants with dirt, danger, and national decline. And so we heard you perfectly. You helped spread these discussion lies about Haitian immigrants eating people's pets, even after officials said that there was no credible evidence of that. But you turn these people into political props because frightened people are useful to ambitious politicians. You are perfectly willing to create stories, to force attention onto an issue that is not even an issue. That's how sick that is. And you're helping to manufacture fear about vulnerable people and then using that fear to help create as proof that the country is in crisis.

The problems we have are not caused by desperate families who are crossing a border. Workers who are taking difficult jobs. Immigrants who are trying to feed their children and make their families have a safer life. You keep saying that immigrants are creating all of this crime. I'm sure there are some immigrants. There are some undocumented immigrants, some undocumented immigrants who are creating crime. But by and large, by far, natural born American citizens are creating and causing the most crime in this country. That is problem. So, JD Vance, hell no. You do not need another chance to screw up this country. And I would have said another word with my mom says I can't keep cussing on this program. She says I should say fudge. So, you don't need another chance to fudge up this country. And now we're from our sponsors, which really kind of goes along with what we are talking about.

People who are having a tough time and people who work really hard. So, you know, you work 40 years for these benefits. One rushed Medicare decision could cost you for years. Medicare is complicated. It's complicated enough without somebody steering you toward a plan because it works better for them than it does for you. And that is why we here at the Don Lament Show, we have teamed up with chapter. They're licensed Medicare providers or advisors. Advisors compare every Medicare plan nationwide and help you figure out what the sense for you. And the average person who finds a new plan with chapter saves about $1,100 a year in healthcare costs. So, if you're turning 65 or you're already on Medicare call chapter. Get a Medicare checkup. It is free. Takes about 20 minutes. And you'll talk to a real person who can walk you through your options. So, call 212-931-085-212-931-085 or go to ask chapter.org slash Don.

Okay, and thank you to our sponsors. All right, so now I want to turn to something else. Can we talk here? Can we talk? I want to return now to the issue that has been, we have been following closely here in the Don Lament. So, you have all seen yesterday's, I believe by now, Texas State Representative Vinton Jones. He was here on the show with a surprise apology for appearing on that stage with Chris Brown and Jasmine Crocket. This is what he said to refresh you. First off, I want to offer an apology. And I think that this is a very important conversation around domestic violence. And I want to offer my apology to black women, to women, and to anyone who has experienced domestic violence. And really express that it was not my intention to be able to stoke the traumas that goes into the world. And that goes into that as well as the background of this situation. We were here at the request, you know, of the venue to come in and to be able to honor the importance of this evening that was going on.

So both Chris Brown and Usher, we were brought in to help and talk to immobilize voters who need to be engaged right now. And this is a very important election that we have going on in November. So you get the point, you get the point. He is apologized. I mean, well, Vinton Jones will shit. I mean, that shit just got real because now Chris Brown has entered the chat. He's responded. He's accusing Vinton Jones of tap dancing and apologizing because he feared losing voters and support. He stressed that he never requested the congressional recognition, writing that the lawmakers approached him. Well, he was miding his own damn business. He said, I was mining my own damn business. His message is pretty blunt. And it says, leave me the F alone and let me focus on the fans. So Chris Brown is now saying Jones created the controversy that he used his stage and then abandon him when the political back clashed arrived.

We've been trying to get a response from Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett, Congresswoman, please. We love it. People are contacting us, asking us what's going on. We like to hear from her, but we have been unsuccessful right now. We're going to keep trying. So let's see if our Washington DC correspondent, Daniel Grimes has had any luck. Daniel, good evening to you. Have you seen the Congresswoman? Have you been able to ask her anything? Listen, how's it going, Don? I had a false alarm earlier. I thought it was Congresswoman Crockett. I ran up. I was helping a puffing. The woman turned around. It was not her. I've been in and out of these halls. I've not seen her. I mean, I think that she is here in Washington because she was on a panel yesterday. So I know that she is here, but I've not seen her around. But I got a chance to catch up with several of her colleagues. They've asked them their thoughts on the brewing controversy around Congresswoman Crockett. And let me just say I'll preface them with this John.

A lot of folks here in Washington did not want to touch it. They either didn't say that they didn't know about the topic or they as you alluded to earlier with Jenny Vans. They talked about what they wanted to talk about. So let's start with Congressman Robert Garcia and what he had to say about it. And I'm representative Jasmine Crockett is getting some backlash for entering the congressional record with Chris Brown. Do you have any thoughts on that? No, I mean, look, I obviously am not I'm not engaging that Texas Senate race. What I would say. I think I think Jasmine Crockett has been a phenomenal voice in the Congress and she's in my class. I'm not exactly sure about I heard she was giving out some awards, but I'm not really plugged in. But I think Jasmine's been a great leader and she will be when she's even out beyond Congress. So you heard it there. Jasmine's been a great leader. She will be when she's beyond Congress. Representative Shimari figures also really didn't answer the question if you can play that one Andy. And you know, I just get a quick comment about Jasmine Crockett honoring Chris Brown in the record. Man, listen, I haven't followed it much, but at the end of the day.

So we have as members of Congress to recognize certain things and she chose to do that. So I don't see, you know, at the end of the day, it's, it's, you know, that's something that. That we haven't been focusing on. We've been focusing on winning reelection and that is not an election issue that people of the second district of Alabama care about. And I will just note this he's in a tough battle because remember they redistrict in Alabama. So representative Shimari figures is and he's in a tough, you know, battle for reelection. So hoping that goes well for him. But I can understand why he's like a listen man. I got enough of my plate. They just voted to get rid of the last couple of weeks of September. We're going to head back to our districts to campaign ahead of November. So I know that he's focusing on that. But then lastly, friend of the show representative Debbie Dingell of Michigan. And I know she's been on several times, Dodd and she told me listen. I don't know anything about it. Listen to what she had to say. A bit of a pop culture question for you. Representative Jasmine Crocke is in a bit of hot water for giving Chris Brown a congressional honor.

Do you have any response to that? I don't even know what honestly. I got a, I didn't know she was in hot water. I did that. So I don't talk about something. I don't know anything about I appreciate that. You got to love that. Who is Chris Brown? But anyway, you got to love that Michigan candor, Dodd. She said. Look me in my eye. And Daniel, I don't even know what you know what I respect it. Okay. Don't don't talk about something. You don't know anything or nothing about. I've talked about. But yeah. So done. It seems like I mean, I understand that though a lot of his especially Democrats, they don't really want to talk bad about a fellow member of Congress. Obviously, we know Jasmine Crocke lost her bid when she chose to run for the Senate. She lost that campaign. So she's going to be out here in a couple of months. We waiting to see what she does next, but I can understand why a lot of her democratic colleagues were a little bit cautious with choosing to comment.

Yeah. And those, that's it. Those are the folks pretty much that they did not know. Well, I did read I ran into representative Tim Birchett of Tennessee, a Republican. And I didn't even ask him about it because thought I had. We talked about the Congress leaving, which you'll hear that clip tomorrow. But I figured he had no idea about it. So I didn't even question him. But yeah, no. It seems to be like people here. Didn't they really want to make sure they stay away from that. They're focusing on kind of bashing Trump and bashing Republican leadership for choosing to cancel the last two weeks of session when they just got back from a five week recess. Yeah, I saw one comments that don't give me move on something else. But Chris Brown. Till Chris Brown that Chris Brown responded. Had Chris Brown not responded. We wouldn't be talking to Daniel about this. But Chris Brown responded to this and had a few things to say about someone who is in power in Texas and in Washington, D.C.

Check your bias at the door people. I'm just saying. If you don't want us to talk about this to tell Chris Brown to say Chris Brown is a big figure. Just saying. Okay, so thank you very much for that, Daniel. Appreciate it. Daniel get some more lawmakers. We need to. Which the one who's it was that you have someone got the one with AOC talking about Maclamore and what's his name? It's Sharon. That was a good shit right there. Yeah, that was that was the team's he guys he got her talking about Maclamore and Ed Sheeran and the fact that the concert is I mean we talked about that this morning. What's happening there? A lot of stuff is happening here in Washington and around the country. Yeah, thank you very much for that. We appreciate it. Okay, so listen, someone else who has been speaking out on this who I admire and who is amazing show with Van Lathen. And I've been wanting to hear her since before Chris Brown responded and that's Rachel Lindsey.

And so Rachel Lindsey is going to join us next, but let me remind you of somewhat of what she said. And then we'll get a word in from our sponsors and then we're back with Rachel Lindsey. It wouldn't have been my choice, but I understand if the purpose for you was the race to like be in front of an audience of this many people who majority of them have are like old enough to say. And it's an way for you to reach people in a certain way into your point when you were trying to find a way to say why she would do this to show that politicians and entertainment don't have to be separate. I could have made an argument of why that outweighed it in that moment. I think you're using it to talk about voting and the betterment of our community. And he's giving you the opportunity to use the stage to do that. I can understand how somebody can reason that. So that's Rachel Lindsey. And this is also Rachel Lindsey who is here now. Rachel Lindsey, thank you. Rachel is going to join us live next.

I want you to take just a few pictures to hear what you have to say. Because I, you know, I love I'm I watch every episode and I text you my opinions and I think you do a great job. First of word for our sponsors and we're back with Rachel Lindsey. This episode is sponsored by Better Health. If I could get better at one thing, I think it would be turning work off when the work day is actually over. I spend all day reading, talking, thinking, reacting and then the cameras go off and my brain doesn't always get the memo. I'm still thinking about the show tomorrow, something somebody said something I need to fix and on and on and I know a lot of people live like that. Don't tell me you don't. Sometimes getting better is learning how to give your mind somewhere else to go. Better is a feeling and it's defined by you. And for Better Health, it is a Better Health therapist who really gets you. It is a focus on global emotional well being with thousands of therapists and millions of members in over 100 countries. It's progress. So for me, Better would be being more present when the work is done. Sign up and get 10% off at BetterHelp.com slash Don Lemon. That's better HELP.com slash Don Lemon.

Rachel from the High Learning Podcast with Van Lathen. Do you get, you don't mind people saying that you were best Lorette, right? Well, no, that's the part of my life. First black bachelor. That's how people met me first. Yeah. Yeah. Things after, but I'm so full of that. So I was, thank you. I was listening to you and I like in the middle of the night, I fell asleep and I was like, wow, her perspective is very interesting. And you, I think you find yourself in a very similar position that I do is like, if you talk about this as a new story, somehow you don't support Jasmine Crocket. And that is not true. I'm a journalist. I have supported Jasmine Crocket many a times when people, when people attacked her, the way people talked about her during the election, when I think they falsely target her. But this is a story that has gone beyond, has gotten criticism and then Chris Brown has entered the chat now. And then the guy apologized. I got to do my job. As someone said, I love Jasmine Crocket. Look at you. Look at you there. I do too. We have so many similarities. I am from Dallas.

My parents still live in the district that she represents. I, you're both attorneys. We are black women. We are deltas. There is so much that I connect with her with on. But what happened to constructive criticism? I feel like that is becoming a thing of the past. What happened to holding people accountable? I don't you do that with your family, your friends, the people you care about because you want them to be their best. I mean, if you start pretending, then where does that leave us? So I had to get over the fear of saying something because there was a time where I didn't do that. And I think that this is one of those opportunities that really warned me to say how I feel because I felt like, one, we have a platform where we can speak out when so many people don't. But I know a lot of people were feeling conflicted about this. I'm talking to people back home in Texas, talking to my sorority sisters. I'm talking to my friends. I'm talking to you. I'm talking to the podcast. So I just felt like this was a conversation that we needed to have because so many people were left confused as to why this need to happen. Okay, so we didn't not not everybody got to see the higher learning your comments and higher learning. What I want you to I want to get your perspective and why you felt that it was needed to say your perspective.

Yeah, I mean, I thought this was fake when I first saw this because it just seemed so tone deaf to me. And you're presented with this opportunity. You have this huge stage. We know what's what's at stake with the midterms. We know how all eyes are on Texas. And it was just such a missed opportunity to use your platform and who you are and what you mean to so many people to not talk about what's at stake. Texas like American citizens and their voting rights are under attack. Texans in particular are under attack. And this was an opportunity to talk about that or at least have some kind of call the action or learning for people or knowledge for people to gain in regards to voting and what they can do and make sure that they know their rights when it comes down to the deadlines and melon and an actual general election. So that was one part of it. But the other part was aligning yourself with Chris Brown for an award that I described on the podcast is basically as meaningless. This was completely unnecessary for me or to me one because Chris Brown and usher have no ties to Texas.

And then to it was the fact that Chris Brown has this pattern and this history of physical altercations. I know I made this mistake on my podcast a couple of years ago. I limited it to Rihanna. I thought it was just Rihanna and I was quickly corrected by my audience that there is a history there. And since then I've completely changed my stance. So there's a history. I mean, Karuchie had a five year restraining order against him. There's a current case right now for something that happened in 2023. But he was arrested in London and charged for that he pled not guilty, but that trial is coming up. I think later this year there is and I'm leaving out so many different things. So to stand on stage as a person as a woman and someone who has been such an advocate and still is for women, why would you want to align yourself with someone who's so controversial. Yes, you're talking to a crowd of concert goers who are there to support him. But what about all the rest of us who actually refused to buy tickets and go support Chris Brown because of what we feel he represents.

I just didn't understand the reasoning behind this and it didn't seem worse like the benefit did not outweigh the cost here. And how are people reacting to what you're saying? All they mad done. You know, they're mad at me. And I knew this like van called it van was like it's probably 50 50 but a lot of people are, you know, low blows people saying, why does this matter. You know, like can we let the Chris Brown history go. And that's why I think it's important for me to set the record straight up. It did not stop in 2009. There is a history of it. I mean, it's there's a plethora of things. Some things weren't didn't move forward in the legal system. Some things did. And so some things were settled off the record. And so I think it's important to acknowledge that. But yeah, people. I just were just in this day and age and I think it's we see it a lot with Jasmine Crockett and I get it. She's so beloved and she does so much for our community and I acknowledge that on the podcast. But people also make make mistakes. This was a mistake. And I think in van made this point on the podcast sometimes you can have such a love and and and and revere someone so much that it's hard for you to criticize them any other way.

And I think that we see that a lot with Jasmine Crockett, but nobody is above criticism, not even myself. So I don't get personally offended when people have something to say, I got to go home and look at myself in the mirror at the end of the night. And this was disappointing to me. Yeah. And that doesn't mean that you won't support Jasmine Crockett in the future. I just I don't I said that that no one was a beyond criticism. I said that yesterday. I also the guy that came on yesterday actually surprised me when he apologized. I didn't expect that I had never met him didn't know who he was. He's a state congressperson. And when I when he said it, I was like, Oh, why? Can I curse? Okay, I would feel like shit. If I did an apology or I went on stage and presented an award. And then I realized I made a mistake. And so I present a heartfelt apology about how I see I was wrong. And the person I give the award to says, I don't even want that to take that back.

It just it shows how unnecessary all of this was. I would feel honestly like a fool. I'm sorry. I just don't know any other way to say it. You do all of this. This huge presentation. There's all this backlash from it. And the person at the end of the day says, you know what? I don't even want your little award. Come on. When you feel silly. You don't have to say no, the answer. I'll take back. I just be like, Oh, but you know as much as I didn't know the circumstances surrounding that they approached him. Because as you talk about Chris Brown's past, you've discussed that we talked about that as asked people about Chris Brown's. I went out on the street. You know, I'm always out in the streets. I always talk to people. And most people are very supportive of it. Like people, but not everyone. But most people are very supportive of it. And they're like, look, you know, when do we when can you make be redemptive or have redemption and make restitution without people judging you for the worst moment of your life?

And we know the rules are different for black people, especially black men. We know the rules are different for them, black women as well. I mean, so he gets no redemption ever. No, he's on a redemption tour. He just, it's he sold out every city that he goes to. There is complete redemption when it comes to Chris Brown. Yeah, you might not people who are bringing it up and reminding people it's not just about Rihanna. There's a pattern.

There's not even just a history. There's a present day. It might not all be related to like domestic violence, but it is related to a physical physical altercations. I mean, my goodness, he's on the usher tour. And there was a whole incident when they get some 2023 with usher. So I mean, there's that's all I'm pointing out. I think it's important to remind people of that because I myself was unaware of that. And the more I educate myself, the more I saw things, but he is this is redemption for him. He is the hottest ticket in town. People are going to see him. They are posting it. They're dying to be on stage for the little thing that he does when he brings up a woman on stage, a fan. Like I Chris Brown can't say that he hasn't been redeemed when it comes to this. I think a lot of people, you know, this we're in media people have short term memory when it comes to them. And then people don't do their full research when it comes to it either, but I also think, and this is a general, this is bigger.

I think that it is easier for society to move past things or violence against women than they do the other way around. And that's that's not even just particular to Chris Brown or and how people are handling that. I think that's just as a society, the way things are. And I can bring that back to the patriarchy. People just seem to be a little bit more forgiving and accepting when there's violence against women. But okay. As a woman, I'm going to let you have the last word on that look, all this is what I want to say. I do believe. If we're talking about people putting money in the bank or things in reserve or bank, I do believe that Jasmine Crockett has banked enough goodwill in service that this too shall pass. Sure. But it doesn't mean and people will support her. This is not like the end of her, whatever it is that she's going to do. Right. And they that's what I'm saying. And they should.

But that doesn't mean we shouldn't talk about it. That we shouldn't discuss it. And it doesn't mean that I can't call her a fan. And people are really upset about that. Yeah. I, I, this is, I wholeheartedly believe that she wanted to meet Chris. And listen, we, I'm sure I'm a fan of somebody that is controversial as well. And I don't know if I would handle the situation in a different way. I don't know if I'm a fan. I'm still stepping in the name of love. Oh, no, no, no, no, I don't do that. However, if I put my, I've said this on higher learning before, when the allegations were there. So I was in college, years and years ago. But let's just say this was, let's just say this was about 15 years ago. I went to an R Kelly concert and I remember there were protesters. And I was like, excuse me, we're trying to get into my seat. I wasn't above it. So I'm, I'm not here to say that I don't make mistakes either. And I don't know if I would handle things differently or not.

I mean, I would with Chris Brown. But if it's an artist that I like, who knows? That's why it's like, you don't, I'm not going to judge her. This isn't it for me. And people still should support her. And I'm excited to see what she does next. I really am. But I can also hold her accountable. And she can't be above constructive criticism. She should be able to criticize our favorite artists, our favorite athlete, our favorite politician. Yeah. Hey, okay. Thank you for that. Are you following the Maclamore thing? Are you guys talking about that? Yeah, we're following it now. I want to get a word and I want to come back with Rachel Lindsay. I want to talk about Maclamore and Ed Sheeran. Okay. We're back. We've been a lot of time on this show talking about numbers. We talk about bold numbers. We talk about prices, interest rates. Everybody is a number that they want you to pay attention to. But there is one number that actually belongs to you. And that is your blood pressure. The tricky part is high blood pressure often doesn't make you feel any different.

You can feel perfectly fine and still not know your numbers. That's why I like the idea behind 120 life. They want you to actually measure. So try their 14 day experiment. Check your blood pressure. It's not a badge of honor. I know the feeling you start with one job and then suddenly you're dealing with the website, social media, graphics, editing emails, all while trying to actually run the business. At some point you need people who know how to do the things that you shouldn't be spending your whole day doing. Doing the things that you're better at and let somebody else do the things that they're better at.

Okay, we're back now with Rachel Lindsay and we are discussing the things that are happening in the world. I want to talk to you about Ed Sheeran and Mack Lamore. As you know, Mack Lamore was dropped from the tour right after he said this. Let's listen to what he said.

I've been trying to figure out a way to say this all day. One of the reasons why I wanted to come on this tour was because I wanted to stand up here on stages and stadiums across America and say two words that are very near and dear to my heart. I said, free Palestine. I said free Palestine. I want those words to be loud and clear. So the people from Gaza all the way to the occupied West Bank know that we have not forgotten them. And this next song was inspired by the bravery of Columbia University students who led an encantment movement that mobilized the entire world open up hearts myself included.

So thank you to those students that risk their diplomas, that risk their tuition, that risk their scholarships that stood up and said no. C U A D students students for justice and Palestine and Jewish voices for peace. Thank you guys to all of my Jewish brothers and sisters. Criticism of Israel, criticism of apartheid being against genocide in no way is a criticism of you. My message is for peace, love for all human beings to be treated with dignity, respect, and equality. So I say free Palestine. I say free Lebanon, I say free Cuba, I say free Congo, free Sudan, free all people in America living in fear over this terrorist organization ice. None of us will be free until we are all free. This song is called Hens Hall.

Now in that moment, did you hear about it? Nothing. I didn't hear anything, but that's not what the headline is. All it says is that Maclamore said free Palestine, which should not also be anything that warrants that as well. Or that sentiment as well for people to feel that. But when you hear the whole message, I don't understand how somebody can listen to that and have a problem with it. I felt it was well-rounded and I think it was really important to make sure that when he said that, he knew that there would be people who were either watching from afar or right there who would feel a certain way. And he made sure to make them not feel that. I thought that what he said was great and we should be allowed to ask for peace for everybody and to use our platforms to promote that and not hate. It's gonna be a problem.

Well, so he was dropped from the tour because I guess Bob Crap to owns Gillette Stadium and others said they were dropping them from the tour. They couldn't perform in the stadiums or whatever because they were worried about some of the concern about some of the symbolism and some of the other things that he said. But to me, it appears that they are trying to silence someone who they just don't disagree with. But here's the thing. When they said that, I don't think they said somebody threatened to drop out or something like that. If you're feeling stadiums, at least stadiums are full. Probably sold out. The people have made up their minds that they want to see. It's a what are they talking about? It's not what. It's not what they're talking about. That's it. That's it. He's literally in stadiums. Literally in stadiums. And selling out.

And he's a he had a song called, you know, Ohio. Yeah, he did that absolutely promoted the same thing that you're saying that you're against. That is not what Maclamore did on that stage. That is why the opening acts are following in line and are refusing to be silenced as well. They're not going to support that. And then I think one of the biggest blows is that Ed Sheeran's band, who actually does work in their, their, their an Irish band, they actually do work to support what's going on in Palestine. And so they, they, they dropped out too. So they're saying it's a one, it's a one man show at this point. I don't know. There's one of the reasons. I want to read this is what Ed Sheeran says he said he's he explained. Let me see some of this. He says. So I'm just going to read this Bob crafty for the picture backup Bob. He barred Maclamore from opening for Sheeran at the Gillette stadium, but not did not respond to claims he organized the boycott by other, the other venues.

So this is from I'm reading this from the Guardian in a statement. He said his decision was not about diminishing the suffering of innocent Palestinians or denying anyone the right to advocate on their behalf, but that such advocacy should not obscure the responsibility of Hamas. But nobody's. He didn't say like Hamas was. Okay. In a statement released yesterday, Sheeran stressed that it wasn't his decision to remove Maclamore who called for a free Palestine on stage at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey last week. I am not complicit. Sheeran wrote Maclamore who in 2014 apologized after being accused of perpetuating anti-Semitic stereotypes with an onstage costume. Wrote that his removal from the tour was organized by New England Patriots owner Bob craft who owns Gillette stadium outside Boston where Sheeran's loop tour is due to play in September. Now Sheeran explained that he doesn't use his platform for politics in order to be a place of safety and sanctuary to maintain diplomacy and keep conversations open.

Now that is a crisis management statement if I have ever seen one because you know I'm sure you've had some written for you if you were on the bachelor's read or you had some I've had some written for me you have to say this and it's I mean it sounds like a crisis BRAPR person wrote this. Though that's not accurate because he performed at a concert for Ukraine in 2022 he signed an open letter to Theresa May about Brexady endorsed Jeremy Corbin and he supported the equality act in the US and he said this Roller. Hey guys I just watched your video this morning. Thank you so much for sending it. Firstly I just want to say to all Ukrainians that I love you I stand with you and I'm so proud to be playing this fundraising event next week. I can't wait to check your music out to you guys and sending lots of love. Wow I didn't even know all of that. I'll be talking about that tomorrow on higher learning. I is like people forget that there are receipts out here of like I'm not political I don't do anything like that but again why does humanity have to be politicized and that's literally Maclamore statement.

He's talking about the peace the humanity of just treating people with decency. Why does that have to be politicized in any kind of way and I feel like that is constant fight of the oppressed just trying to be recognized as somebody who is equal and deserving as a person who is oppressing them. And I don't understand why you can't talk about both things equally or why it is so hard to say this thing is wrong but you as a person existing is not wrong. I just don't get it. Okay do you remember what we talked about like you know you have to be careful you know Jasmine Cracky can't be criticized whatever but this particular subject can get you into hot water because the common sentiment is among certain people that if you are critical in any way of Israel or the Israeli government or the war or you feel like well maybe that that wasn't you know they were saying is anti-Semitic you're accused of anti-Semitism.

I know I'm not anti-Semitic but I understand why people don't want to see people killed indiscriminately. I'm with you so my question is when you say you're going to talk about on higher learning I mean trade carefully just saying well I isn't it sad that we shouldn't have to I was just about to say it's a topic that always gives us pause because people feel so personally and rightfully so right I don't want to take that away from anyone but you'll such a way that there you can't talk you can't even really walk the line people want you to make one side of the other I remember when we first started talking about it it was obviously after October 7 you were you either needed to be on this side or this side and you couldn't do anything of what people were calling both sides that it seems like you were chickening out so that's why I commend Mack Lamour for being brave he knew the cost when he said it and he's as he spoken out and said he said it before this isn't a one-time thing this is just the biggest stage that he has set it on and so I actually also come in because today he said that the money that he's made from the tour he's donating it to groups that are helping Palestinian so he is actually not just talking the talk he's walking the walk and he is

putting what he believes to be right over his own personal benefit and that's what we decide to talk about this that's why it's easier no Ed Sheeran talks is talking about Ukraine and that's not seen as problematic but this feels more personal to people when they discuss it and humanity should never be full of the size like this I finally got Rachel Lindsay on the show after all how many times have I been asking you you have and I'm sorry but when you set this time I was like I am free I'm lucky for all our I want to be available I love what you're doing thank you very it's tough like you get if you you know if you don't people get man people I said people walk up to me all the time and they tell me that they love me but then they also walk up to me and they tell me that they hate me or they tell me what they like and then they tell me that they don't like most people don't tell me that they don't tell me that they but you know oh I love this whatever but oh I didn't like that you did this and I'm like okay well you know we have a job to do I remember windy remember windy would always say this and I have a former colleague who would say the same thing who is a very high profile person at the former place

that I and never did anything social because he says I'm not friends with those people I don't want to be friends with those people and I'm going to have to report on those people and Wendy would say I am not friends with those people I don't want to be friends with those people I don't want to go and be because I have to do my job and she's a gossip basically you know that she was the hot topics lady the same thing with me I like being friends with these people but I as I tell people sometimes I'm going to have to I may have to talk about you Rachel I don't know I may have said something about the best for it I don't know I may have but all respect you're doing your job you got to have a thick skin to be in the spotlight and so I don't really get mad at what people say and if it's untrue I come right back on your show and and we would talk about it we have it out yes ma'am you got to watch higher learning it's great and I love it when you sack out bandlake because band tell band then think he know everything I'm not saying the thing I know we're from the same hometown we're the same
