I'm just very very frustrated today watching the Falcons kick the living you know what at a green bay last night that the jets aren't 2 and 0. Yeah, it's hard not to come away with that feeling especially as someone who sat out in the rain and watched that in person and is now 0 and 5 in the talking jets group outings. We thought we thought we were going to get one and I don't know how they figured out a way to blow that game. You're 100% right, extremely frustrating. Set it at the time, feels that way even more so missed opportunity to be 2 and 0 and now you got a really tough matchup against the very hungry football team and you know what's so annoying you look at what the Falcons did. They didn't overthink it. Oh, the runs would be John. We're working well to the outside. Let's keep doing that. Oh, Drake London's awesome. Let's just keep feeding our best player and the jets

6:15completely overthought it against the same Packers team. Sudeak only three targets, Garrett only seven targets, but let's target Isaiah Williams six times. It just shows you competent coaching in the jet or 2 and 0 right now. Forget the stuff with Glenn at the end of regulation. Just like at the end of the day, the Falcons had a plan. They found something that worked and they didn't overthink it and the jets did the total opposite last Sunday against Green Bay. Yeah, 100% you look at it and it was the the B-John and Drake London show and go figure they get the ball in their two best players hands. They both nearly go for what 200 yards on the ground and through the air. It was ridiculous, but I mean a total agreement with you. Can you see he has to be significantly more active this week? I don't know why the jets are designing telegraphed screens to Jeremy Ruckard. Isaiah Williams, he wasn't great as a returner in this game, but I like him as a returner and gadget guy. 11:38who is rooting for wins and want to see this team and this coaching staff improve over the next 15 games but you never know and you know, take a thorn is always a fun one to check out when you have a couple other first round picks from other teams. They really is. I mean, I'm still rooting for wins as well but the Packers should be on three. The Jets should be two and oh and that brings us to the game on Sunday. The Jets are in a spot where at one and one you have a season so far but this is going to be a real tough game for the Jets facing a Lions team that has 10 days to get ready for you. They're at home. They're going to get a little healthier. Get one of their starting offensive lineman back and how do the Jets respond after blowing a game that quite literally no one in NFL history has ever done. We keep showing that those stats are rich Samini dug up. How do the Jets respond to me as the biggest question? How do they look early in this game? Are they going to be shell shocked? Are they going to be able to handle a potential buzz saw coming out after them from a pissed off Lions team? That's what I'm so fascinated to see early on in this game what the Jets

12:39look like. Yeah, without a doubt. I think they have to come out aggressive and that was going to be one of my main keys for this game. I don't think you can afford to go with a conservative approach against the Detroit Lions. We know that they are uber aggressive going forward on four down and I just don't think you upset Detroit kick and field goals. So you got to have these drives that end in seven points. We talked about getting the ball in your best playmaker's hands. I would think Garrett Wilson, Breeze Hall, Kenyans, Cedeek should be the three guys who have the most yardage for the New York Jets this week. Maybe a couple shots deep to 80 Mitchell. I think Geno has been mostly fine through the first two games, but maybe a little too conservative there as well. Open it up a little bit. If you throw an interception, so be it, but you got to take some shots against this Detroit Lions defense that's been absolutely brutal for the first two weeks. They've been awful and the Jets defense needs to be opportunistic to have a chance to win. They can't go a 20th straight game without an interception. They can't have five fumbles and only fall

13:40on one of them. I've been saying it all week, if the Jets are going to pull off this upset, I think they need to be plus two in the turnover margin to have a chance at this. Yeah, probably. I think that's probably a fair estimate here. The Lions, especially at home, you know, that they could put up points. They're one in one, but they've scored over 30 points in each of their first two games. They've also allowed over 30 points in each of their first two games. It's a very explosive offense. I think it's going to be a really big test for Aaron Glen and this defense through the first two games. The Jets defense, I think, is, you know, greatly, greatly improved. But this is a team that has big explosive plays. Amin Raus St. Brown is one of the league's best slot receivers. Then you get Jameer Gibbs, who's one of the league's best dual threat guys. It's going to be a real test to see if this is legit or if the Jets kind of just took advantage of two poor teams in the first two weeks. Looking at the game now on Sunday, let's talk more about keys to victory. Matt, give us some of your top keys at the Jets as a seven point dog. You're going to go on the road and win in Detroit. Yeah, we hit on a couple already, but to reiterate an Ed is some more. They have to be more aggressive in this game. Take more shots down the field. Garrett Wilson, this has to be a game where he's getting double digit targets. I think Breeze Hall out of the backfield as a receiver should be big, especially with Mason Taylor out.

19:47I think Kenyans, the D-Costa significantly get more targets. Three is not enough. I want that number around six plus this week. Like I said, they can't settle for field goals. I think offensively, they got to be aggressive and go forward and try to convert to the sevens because you're not going to be able to upset this Detroit Lions team. I think this is one of those games where if the Jets are to upset it, it's going to be in a shootout. I don't think this is a game where you can pretend that you're going to try to win it 20 to 17. That just doesn't seem very realistic. On the defensive side of the ball, I think there's two really main keys. It's unfair to ask because it's the Angel of Ponds's NFL debut. But they need a big game from him because I would imagine he's going to have the assignment of covering Amin Ross St. Brown out of the slot. This is why you draft a guy like the Angel of Ponds where the Jets did to handle some of the better slot receivers in the NFL. Jared Goff is a good quarterback. He's not very mobile. I think you got to get a high

20:50amount of pressure in this game. Maybe you take a page out of the bill's book. They sent the blitz a lot against the Detroit Lions and had success with that for a majority of their game last week. So I would expect to see more blitzing from Aaron Glenn in this Jets defense this week. And hopefully some interior pressure from Joanne Bragg, so I'd expect to get more playing time with the David O'Neill Mata injury. You mentioned it too. Turnovers are key. Gotta win the turnover battle. And if you do all those things, I think you'll have a chance, but very tough matchup for the New York Jets on the road this week. There's no doubt about it. There is no doubt. So my keys are similar. I just put together basically six here. If you're really one of the detectives, you could probably condense these down to four or five. But the first thing I'm looking at is he got a pressure gaff without losing. Contain gaff this year. As you get the throw a pick, he's been super comfortable back there. When he's off the spot, he's just a different player. Hopefully the Jets can get some sort of pressure without having to blitz a ton. Because if you have the blitz a ton, that is going

21:51to concern me with the Jets secondary. I know they played well, but I'm not convinced that, you know, the Jets secondary is an elite unit and not having Minka. I feel like we're really show up potentially in this sort of game. So can you get some pressure on Gough? David Bailey, can he continue to build on what has been, I think, an encouraging start to his young career? And Will McDonnell, I don't know if he's hurt. He was on the injury report last week. Maybe the weather had a lot to do with it. He was pretty much a ghost last week against the Packers. Need Will McDonnell to step up and get some real pressure on Gough. Jermir Gibbs, you have to try and limit the exposure plays. Force Detroit to try and nickel and dime their way down the field. Again, be opportunistic as a defense. Can you clamp up in the red zone and hold the lines, the field goals? And then I'm looking at the jet offense here. Detroit's allowing 310 passing yards per game. This cannot be another game where the jets live around 5.8 yards average depth of target. Detroit plays more cover zero than anyone. Throw the ball to Garrett Wilson. Throw the ball to 80 Mitchell. Throw the ball to Kenyans to

22:52Deek. We watched the Falcons last night. Not overthink it. It was Bijon and Drake London. And they kept going to those players. Go to your players. We all agree the jets have the personnel. If Mason Taylor doesn't play, even more reason to get the ball to Kenyans to Deek. I let him do what he does. So that's my big thing. Feed the ball to Garrett. To Deek. AD. Your playmakers. Don't overthink it. And the jets at the finish drives. The Detroit scored 31 points a consecutive weeks. They convert on 77.8% of its red zone trips in the touchdowns. Field goals are not going to win you this game. When you're in scoring territory, you have to finish it with seven. If it's fourth and one, run the damn quarterback sneak, Frank Reich. Run the damn. To Deek. Sneak and be aggressive. Field goals will not win you this game. Drives need to end with seven. Glenn cannot coach scared like you did against the Packers. They need to execute. So extra aggressive. Be opportunistic. And just don't overthink it. The line's defense has not proven to be any good. Get the ball to your playmakers and give yourself a

23:53chance. Yeah, I think you nailed it there. Love the take on the quarterback sneak. There's no, look, there's no elements. So I don't want to hear about you can't give a direct snap to Kenyans to Deek or direct snap to someone and try to push it. You know, being aggressive isn't just talking about Aaron Glenn to me. It's also talking about the offensive play calling. And I think Frank Reich needs a better day. He got a little too cute in week two for my liking. He got way too cute. And for those who missed it, I want to play you want to Frank's answers because there was a follow-up to this on X last night from someone who actually used to work with Frank Reich with the Philadelphia Eagles and analytics guy who basically said whatever analytics Frank Reich is citing here are not correct. So I want to play you the clip and then we'll give you the follow-up update here. But first for those who didn't see it, Frank Reich being asked, why no quarterback sneak, why the half the half back handoff at a shotgun on that pivotal fourth and one in the fourth quarter? No, that's fair question. And as a play caller, as a staff, and as we think about it, and as I think

24:58about it as a play caller, in those situations everything is always on the table. When I look at my career as a play caller, we'll get under center, we'll get in the shotgun, we'll throw it, we'll run it, you know, at the bottom line as well, I'm always going to call what I think is the best play in that moment. And that's what I did, that's what I did in the game. And you know, when it doesn't work out, it's, you know, sure you're upset about it. You say, I maybe I should have called something else, you know, because it didn't work. But you got to live with the results. You know, I'm comfortable and confident in the calls that we called. I mean, I mean, just by just as context, for example, like the framework and the perspective that we go in with the analytics behind those calls, okay, particularly the fourth and one call in the shotgun run is over five year, three and five year study, excluding quarterback Sneat, gun runs are seven on fourth and one are 71% conversion, under center are 67% conversion. So the gun runs actually better. And the reason is better is

26:04because or percentage wise over a five year period is because there's a threat of a pass and they don't get so tight. So like we have that perspective going in. I understand all the sorts of it. But I also have that we also have a perspective of over five year study, you know, the conversion rate on pass is 57% compared to 71%. Trust me, we're going to throw it on four than one. So, you know, maybe this week, maybe not, you know, but unless you're an elite quarterback, Sneat team, and there's only three or four of those or however many there are, there's a couple and they're really elite at it. But if you're not one of those pro analytics, just would say a gun run, a gun direct run is the best percentage call in that play. And for us, that's what we had to, that's what I had the most conviction in, we didn't make it. So that's you got to live with it. So Frank says that yesterday and conveniently leaves out, hey, when you don't look at quarterback

27:06sneak factory into plays under center, the gun run is actually more efficient than a play under center to that I would say other than that misses Lincoln. How was the play? But here's the problem when he cites analytics. He's actually citing incorrect analytics. So now I bring you to this tweet yesterday that went mega viral in the jet universe. This is from Ryan Pagnetti. Ryan Pagnetti used to be the director of analytics with the Eagles. He's worked for the Jaguars and the Raiders. He is a great follow on Twitter and he went through the numbers. He goes, Frank is awesome. But I believe the data he is being provided is incredibly misleading in the situation. You can't simply exclude quarterback sneaks from the under center population and then conclude that shotgun is better. That removes a central part of what makes being under center valuable. I don't buy the idea that only three or four teams can sneak effectively. Over the last eight seasons, 26 NFL franchises converted at least 81% of their sneaks on third slash fourth and

28:10one. In my view, forcing deep fences to account for the sneak is a major advantage in short yardage. If they don't defend it, take it. If they sell out the stop it, you've created opportunities to attack elsewhere. And being under center doesn't mean you have the sneak when defenses had defenders on the line occupying both agaps and both be gaps passes from under center on fourth and one converted 74.4% of the time and average plus 1.28 EPA per plate against those same interior looks pin and pull concepts and jet sweeps both converted over 82% of the time with one yard to go.
